SEE ok the thing is. I think Taka does like Mercury romantically. The entire time in the desert as I was playing I was thinking “is he flirting. Is he flirting in a rlly sad way.” And then the train car scene happened and I died. I was charmed. I’m so easily charmed by sad pathetic men. I give him a little kiss. I knew he was getting stabbed later though so rip to him.

But Mercury is like. poison in a bottle that isn’t neutralized yet and they Know they would probably be bad for him. They probably have an idea about it. But they don’t engage w it because 1. They’re in the fucking desert and got electrocuted to hell and back + wow that’s a beheaded person! they need some quiet. And 2. They actually like Taka as a person, and wants them to be on their level. They don’t think they’re good for him in that manner. They like having someone that knows what it’s like to (REDACTED) so. rare scenario where they’re unsure how to approach this.

ah but don’t get me wrong they do find him attractive. But not in the sentimental value (as of me writing this). I don’t know I can’t rlly see Mercury fully going all mushy romance rlly. U have to work rlly hard to charm a charmer. Either have smth severely wrong w u (Flora lmaooo) or be someone painfully earnest. Which Taka is slowly turning to be. But again, Mercury’s a person I slam down who doesn’t “want to be tied down”. Whether or not that changes (and even if it’s w Taka) is up in the air.

ADRI !!!!!!!!!!!!!! stop reading now there's spoilers incoming for a series you haven't seen yet (to my knowledge??? Kuuga- I just want to talk about smth kinda unrelated but it's still spoilers nonetheless!!)

I'll pad the text for a bit for the spoilers so if their eyes dart over the first few sentences in this paragraph, they won't get spoiled- also hopefully the different color that blends in with the bg a bit will help make it less noticeable. Anyways I saw a glimpse of the next ep's preview at the end and this is VERY much giving Kuuga vibes at around the middle mark where Godai gets poisoned. The way you know it's not an actual death death (as in: they'll come back) but the way they handle it with the characters' reactions, the camera work and just the overall tone just GETS you. You very well know it's not the end of their character but the way the show tells that part of the story very much feels like a genuine loss and I think that's a REALLY big strength that Kamen Rider has. Ik usually Adri and Nemo (& I know Nemo's watchlist) read these but just in case if anyone else gets this far !!! further spoilers for: Build and W !!!!!

I view these as kind of separate instances bc (at least) I didn't know whether they'd come back or not narrative-wise.. Ok nvm I did know about Philip bc of spoilers BUT with the writing, I never would've guessed. Meanwhile with Shinnosuke and Godai you know for sure that it's gonna be ok (<- both bc they're the mcs and also bc it happens mid-season, while Gentoku, Kazumi and Philip all die at the end). They handle these deaths in such a spectacular way that the impact is still very much prominent even if they do come back :(((( It's so good..I love Kamen Rider, man.

To answer your question from the tags genuinely as a non-artist: sometimes it's because I'm worried what I comment might come off wrong to the artist - that they might think what I said was too unrelated (like if I rb x character and then start saying I loved it when x did y even tho the art doesn't show that), or misinterpret my tone. This wouldn't apply to your work but sometimes I want to express thirst (like awooga etc) but not all art that makes me thirsty is trying to be sexy on purpose so then I'm like would the artist be put off LOL

Sometimes I'm just self-conscious. Since by reblogging I'm already basically saying it's good enough to share with other people (I want other people to see it and I want to keep it on my blog forever), sometimes I feel like I shouldn't comment unless I have something specific to say about the piece (ex. the colors fuck) or a funny comment if it's a humorous piece but I rarely think of anything actually funny or witty to say... If it's fanart, how commonly something is drawn also affects how likely I am to comment. If someone draws an obscure character/ship/fandom, I will almost always say smth to express appreciation. This isn't a hard rule but thinking back on it I also think I comment more on artwork with fewer notes since it feels more natural/the artist needs encouragement I guess??? For popular work and fanart of popular media, I think it's mainly just a bad habit since I grew up on Tumblr in the aesthetic scene where ppl never talked in the tags. There's also the assumption that like, I'm sure someone else has already said they liked the linework/coloring or made that joke and I don't want to bother the artist by repeating what someone else said. Realizing now that most people wouldn't mind hearing at least compliments again tho 😭

thanks for sharing your thoughts. to answer genuinely as an artist: i think it is much, much, Much better to say something and have it be silly or repetitive than to not say anything at all.

at the end of the day, likes and reblogs are just numbers. an impersonal imitation of a human interaction. i cannot speak for everyone, but i imagine that for a lot of artists, including myself, the fundamental reason for why they make art is a desire to be seen and heard, to share oneself with the world, to form personal connections; which is why this shift towards silent observation in fear of somehow offending the artist with your interpretation of their art frustrates and saddens me greatly. art is meant to be interpreted! it's meant to evoke thoughts and feelings, even the simplest and silliest sketch.

i'm not arguing for everyone to write essays in tags (though i feel like a lot of artists would appreciate that), because sometimes a simple "this is nice" can elevate your reblog from a faceless crowd of "hashtag fandom hashtag character name" to possibly making the artist's day; but a lot of people feel the same way as you do. if everyone thinks, "oh, i shouldn't say [x], someone probably already did" it just results in no one saying anything at all. so i urge you to not restrain yourself. a little kindness goes a long way.

I read a lot of nonfiction during uni (unrelated to my degree for the most part) and haven't been reading as much since I took time off...

I'll put this below a cut as I've rambled a lot.

I'm currently rereading american psycho, which is a great read but strong violence/gore (way more than the movie).

naomi klein's the shock doctrine is a great nonfiction book on neoliberalism and its impacts. her other work is pretty good too; that's just my favourite. (I met her actually!!)

I'm a sucker for a good classic, though some of them can be a bit lacklustre compared to their reputation. dracula is one of my favourites though! pride and prejudice is a good one. I spent last summer reading anna karenina outside.

no longer human is a book that I read in like one sitting and felt so seen by. I don't know if he's meant to be relatable, but omg it was like reading my own thoughts. there's a manga version that's horror, I think, but I read the original (in translation obv).

the age of surveillance capitalism is a good book on why tech companies are how they are (aka terrifying).

pedagogy of the oppressed is a book that apparently was really hard for everyone else in the book club I was in to understand (those who read it at least) but I thought it was fairly simply explained.

plato is hilarious. as is hegel. hegel is not as easy to understand though.

les miserables will always have a place in my heart. I read it at like 13. I hated marius so much. there's a lot in it that isn't 100% relevant cause it's victor hugo, but 13 yo me read it so it can't be that bad.

if you want to understand the philosophy of climate groups (at least the ones that used to be in the news all the time here), read why we can't wait by mlk, but subtract the christianity that's foundational to his whole structure to see what these modern people are on about. (I've met these people that I'm insulting btw. I'm not just being a petty leftist or smth)

I was doing a biology degree (lol) and genuinely the selfish gene by richard dawkins is a good explanation of the philosophy of modern biology and evolution. ignore his works beyond like the fourth book he wrote cause he kinda just became an ass. the extended phenotype is pretty interesting but is more academic in style.

I am now forgetting every book I've ever read. I've been looking around my room at books, but I'm sure I've missed some great ones. I also read a lot of political theory books in pdf form in high school (instead of my schoolwork) if that's the sort of thing you want.

that being said, i do wanna clarify something, because i think there was a bit of misunderstanding! when i said this was a “safe space” to say you don’t like satosugu, it was literally because someone sent me an ask saying they’d never liked it and weren’t sure if they were even allowed to say that out loud. that’s not hate—that’s just a preference, and i opened space for that because everywhere else they go, they’re drowned out.

i’ve never attacked shippers. i don’t “hate” anyone for what they enjoy. i’ve only ever vented about how frustrating it is to see one ship brought up constantly under unrelated posts, or how certain behaviors (not the ship itself!) get exhausting when they dominate every space—even when no one asked.

i totally get that hate is not okay. i agree. but expressing discomfort, setting boundaries, or critiquing fandom behavior isn’t hate. and if people truly see it that way, i think it says more about how fragile fandom spaces have become, where any disagreement is labeled as “hate.”

s19 ep5 - death by persuasion : the aim is a little off with the warning shot during the ball, and sarah gets hit. or she gets hit by a mirror shard. either way, she’s in a regency era ball gown and she is bleeding out while john frantically tries to help her. (this naturally gives her ideas for her book, much to john’s concern)

s20 ep2 - death of the small coppers : i was So sure sarah was gonna end up getting caught helping birgitte with her investigation and that some sort of whump would play out with that. i have no real thoughts of what or how or why exactly, but i Need it. possibly could have birgitte & sarah being caught snooping and subsequently getting whumped together??? helping each other stay strong throughout it, then working out an escape plan and getting themselves out before john & jamie can even attempt to rescue them??? also unrelated but sarah should’ve been there for the jamie whump scene at the end i stg

s21 ep2 - the miniature murders : THE MURDERER WAS LITERALLY IN JOHN & SARAH’S HOUSE WITH SARAH & BETTY. WHY DID NOTHING HAPPEN WITH THIS?????? MIDSOMER WRITERS HATE ME I STG 😭😭 anyways what if john & jamie rush in, john telling sarah to take betty to play in her room, but sarah doesn’t get the opportunity to leave?? the murderer grabs her in a panic and pulls a knife (or possibly a dangerous improvised weapon of some kind, i’m hazy on the details of this ep) and takes her hostage. jamie hurries betty upstairs on john’s orders, trying his best to console her and answer her questions while also massively worrying about his adoptive mum sarah. john is left to talk the murderer down on his own

s22 ep5 - for death prepare : things go massively wrong when sarah is on stage. i’m talking “murderer walks on stage in full costume with an actual extremely lethal sword or a period-accurate gun” kind of massively wrong. “the last guy he wants to kill is also on stage” kind of massively wrong. “sarah just gets in the way of his revenge and ends up with a severe wound” kind of massively wrong. (john and jamie get there in time to see it happen but too late to actually stop it. they both blame themselves for not getting there sooner)

s23 ep1 - the blacktrees prophecy : so many vague and depressing thoughts about sarah having a Bad Childhood™ with far too much pressure on her to always be perfect, because nothing was ever good enough for her mum no matter how hard she tried. (*literally looks so upset by the thought of her mum coming to stay that john thinks she’s straight up died* / “oh, i’m just touching up a few patches [of paint on the walls]. you know how my mother likes to point out every little imperfection” / “the house is, er… looking lovely” “well, i’m sure she’ll find fault somewhere”). HER SCENES IN THIS EP PHYSICALLY HURT ME HONESTLY. SHE IS SO STRESSED AND TENSE,,,,,,,,, and then basically as soon as she finds out her mum’s going to her sister’s instead you can See this massive weight has been lifted off her. like ik there’s a couple hours between her finding out and the actual scene at the end, bUT STILL. IT’S LIKE FLICKING A SWITCH???? SHE’S SUDDENLY HAPPY AND JOKING WITH JOHN AGAIN??????? sorry this was basically just me repeating canon but i have too many Feelings about it 😭😭

s23 ep3 - a grain of truth : look honestly i don’t really remember anything about this ep other than that sarah was at the place where a murder happened or smth and iirc exactly zero whump came out of this. some whump should’ve come out of this. also weren’t ppl being poisoned with ergot or smth?? why was sarah not poisoned with ergot??

non-ep whump:

john gets a call from betty’s school saying that it’s getting pretty late, will he or sarah be picking her up soon? and he’s a little confused, because it’s meant to be sarah’s day to do the school pickup and it’s not like her to forget, but he figures she must’ve been waylaid by something. he calls her, but it just goes to voicemail. he calls again; still nothing. he’s concerned now, wondering why she isn’t answering, but he knows she sometimes gets stuck in unplanned meetings for ages, so it’s like a low-level concern as he leaves work early to pick betty up. his worry absolutely skyrockets when he finds the front door kicked in, the living room trashed, and the house empty despite sarah’s car being parked up outside. a ransom note and proof of life photos arrive the following morning

john & sarah are held captive together for some reason. john’s being Extremely Annoying in order to get the captors to keep their focus on him, because he’s willing to take all the consequences of their anger if it keeps sarah out of harm’s way. one of the captors eventually hurts sarah to try and keep him in line, and he just goes absolutely feral

sarah should get to watch someone being killed. as a treat (..ok probably not for her, but it would be for me ✌️😎)

tbh most of the rest of my misc ideas are just various other forms of “sarah gets Beaten Up!!” or “sarah gets held hostage to get john to cooperate!!” s o o o yea that is basically all i can think of atm 👀

Hey does anyone who has aspd have tips for how i can best communicate with bio dad who has undiagnosed aspd.

I am audhd and also a system with c-ptsd/ctx

Unrelated to the aspd symptoms that i personally think bio dad very clearly shows, he tends to also end up toxic due to the childhood trauma he went through.

I could explain to bio mom who has bpd why what she was doing was hurting me after a lot of effort and heartache because her neurodiversity manifests so that her emotions are how she processes and understands the world.

Bio dad enters his shell/becomes defensive at any "stop that" or "no" which triggers my SA trauma so it ends up escalating and i end up getting really serious autistic meltdowns.

It's almost like he has emotional responses to the world but tries to logically pick that apart but has a boatload of alexithymia.

I can't figure out which communication method will make him "listen to me to understand instead of listen to me to respond because unless i explicitly ask for a response, then i don't need one, especially when i am upset and dysregulated and crying" (yes i've told him that i need him to do so in these words, this is a paraphrasing quote that i've tried to write accurately)

Because from what i can tell his fight or flight or freeze gets mildly activated at any percieved critique and then he treats me like a threat and in the past compared me to his abusive mother despite me being his underage child at the time which struck me as odd and is why i remark on it. He seems to still be doing that but just like then he denies accusing me of being a bully or thinking of me as a threat. Despite his body instantly changing, his tone going very short and aggressive, starting to insult and raise his voice etc etc which i conclude is him being defensive.

But as i'm sure you understand i need to be able to tell him "hey stop, you're hurting me" and he stops instead of trying to debate if he has actually hurt me (which i have also expressed he shouldn't do as that causes things to escalate for me)

So the tldr is:

What communication method/script works best? Ik one person with aspd is only one person with aspd and doesnt represent the whole neurotype but i have literally no insight into how this neurotype processes the world, thinks and feels compared to my neurotype so i need something, anything, to start bridging the gap/translating what he is saying to smth i can understand and translate what i want to say into smth he can understand.

Why i'm bridging the gap instead of going low or no contact is because i am disabled and physically dependent on him atm, as soon as i get a chance to change that i will but atm im incapable of doing so. Ik this sitch is horrible for both of us but i literally have no other option than try to make it work atm/ctx

hi this is so unrelated to anything else i've ever posted BUT i need to talk about this and there are only 14 of you who follow me so basically nobody will see it so i'm less self conscious ab posting it.

BASICALLY my grandma likes to buy me childrens books for the class i will theoretically be in charge of in about 2 years (more like 1.5 which is so scary) but this time my grandma bought me a book called "Tomorrow's Alphabet" and i was sort of expecting it to be like a very progressive alphabet book. it is not. genuinely it took me way too long to figure out what was going on. idk if i'm just dumb but here's some examples from the book:

A is for Seed, tomorrow's Apple

F is for Wheat, tomorrow's Flour

G is for bulb, tomorrow’s Garden

E is for Campfire, tomorrow's Embers
