Laying down by his side, I run my fingertips on his jaw, alongside the curve of his ear and on the edge of his lips… He winces when I pass by a spot right under one cheekbone.

“What is it?” I rise on my elbow to take a closer look. It is only then I notice the small cut on his face and the reddened skin around it. “Did you cut yourself shaving?”

“Yeah.”

“Does it hurt?” I ask. “Did it bleed a lot?”

“Not really,” says Peeta. “Just a drop maybe.”

I don’t bother explaining to him that him and blood do not mix well together in my head, no matter its quantity. But he cracks open an eye to see my expression. “Katniss,” he says softly, with an edge of amusement in his voice, “it is nothing.”

I sigh and place a kiss an inch apart from the cut. I feel the corner of his lips move under mine, forming a smile. “You are just giving me a reason to nick myself more often. You know that, right?”

“How about one kiss for the side with a cut on it,” I say. “And ten for the side without any?” I place a hand under his jaw and turn his head from side to side, examining it for other scars. Then, without waiting for an answer, I start placing kisses haphazardly. On his temple, on the side of his nose, finally on his lips…

“Yeah, I can live with that,” he whispers against my mouth.

Send me a heart and a ship for a little snippet! 🧚‍♀️

For all that Anne could not claim any romantic experience—not any mutually romantic experience, at least—she knew what was coming.

A lot of it was hope. Hope she shouldn't be harboring, at that. She knew where she stood; she could never hope to compete with the young woman Gilbert had accompanied to the fair. It just wasn't possible.

And yet, the way Gilbert was looking at her said very differently. He was moving in, seeming very sure but giving her time to back away. Maybe he wasn't so sure. Maybe he was trying to find out.

If there's one thing worse than never knowing, it's going to be knowing and losing him anyway.

Anne leaned back just a little, putting her hand up in a clear signal for Gilbert to stop. Gilbert raised both of his hands to take it, but Anne refused to let it drop.

"Anne..."

Oh God, she should never have let their friendship get as close as it had. She could hear the plea in his voice, and it was going to break her resolve if she didn't end this here and now. "Gilbert, I—"

Anne had had every intention of being firm, but words deserted her entirely for a moment as Gilbert leaned in and pressed an entirely too tender kiss to her palm. He lowered their hands, and Anne was too stunned to do anything but let him. She could feel tears gathering and her throat tightened.

"Anne," Gilbert said gently, "please, say something. I thought..."

Neither of them could actually get the words out. If they couldn't do that, then what hope was there, anyway? "I can't, Gilbert. I can't and you can't and if you don't understand that, then..." Then what? There truly was no hope? Maybe he wasn't who Anne thought he was? Or maybe Anne wasn't who she thought she was?

In any event, it was going to be easier to weather the heartbreak if she did it now, she thought, pulling her hand from Gilbert's before getting up and fleeing inside.

She'd keep telling herself that until she could forget how he held onto her hand until the last possible second.

Maybe then, she'd be able to believe it.

Eventide (everlark): Peeta lunged forward on the decorative rug stretched out before him for what was probably the fifth time that night.

Da mi diebus mille (jamieclaire): Claire Beauchamp stretched her legs up the three steep steps towards the entrance of the plane.

She Moved Through the Fair (everlark): All around, dandelions that have gone to seed whip around us, dotting the edge of the landscape of waving green grass where train and prairie meet.

I would recognise you... (jamieclaire - also longer line since the first were straight up book quotes): “I was dead. Everything around me was a blinding white. And there was a soft rushing sound like the wings of angels. I felt peaceful. And bodiless. Free of terror. Free of rage. Filled with a quiet happiness.” A soft warmth brushed my hand.

Blood Pearl/Neamhnaid Fola (jamieclaire): Jamie played with the scratchy ruffles sewed to the cuffs of his sleeves, impatient.

Wild Rose (everlark): The blue sky stretches for miles, letting the heat sneak in and saturate the air with a clinginess that can only ever belong to the final long stretch of days of the summer season.

The Sassenach Faerie (jamieclaire): The sun had not yet peaked over the grey monoliths up on the hill.

Soup of Life (outlander fix-it): It was a veritable feast for a small creature such as him.

Chocolate, churros, princesses, and scarves (jamieclaire): “Claire, mo ghraidh, mo Sorcha, I love ye so verra much-” Jamie gulped, the bob of his throat catching Claire’s eyes. “Will ye-”

I was just thinking about this the other morning - there’s something special to me about Katniss moving into Peeta’s house. I image both houses hold painful memories, but for Peeta, his are more of a large, empty house that few people visited to becoming a place where district residents begin to venture for bread and then conversation during the rebuild. And where bit by bit Katniss’s stuff migrates to as she spends more and more of her days and then evenings there until it’s full of life

Current obsession: I guess it's no surprise that I say The Hunger Games, but I'm also obsessed with learning how to braid my hair properly. I'm going to braid my hair every day until it stops getting thick and crooked. .

Last thing googled: The correction of the test I took yesterday. It's a national exam for college admission... I did well as possible on 90 math questions.

Looking forward to: Vacation! I'm exhausted. I haven't had a break since December. Work is really killing me.

🍓 how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

the very first time was when i wrote nim's island fanfiction aged 7-8 years old for myself lmao. then i started writing it again (and posted it for the first time) in high school when i was obsessed with les mis, again at uni when i couldn't stop thinking about anne with an e, and now here we are and i'm a little hunger games bitch (which i also was at 12 but i wasn't really interacting with fanfics at that time)

🎲 what stops you from writing more in your free time?

my other hobbies and also the fact that 90% of my writing process takes place in my brain. i just have to fucking think about what i'm going to write for weeks on end. luckily tho that means when it comes to actually drafting, it gets on the page pretty quickly
