@canyourfavesurvivecastledracula -- I'm trying out the "argue at you" approach. tagging you b/c you don't have submissions open and I think this long enough to be an annoying ask. I don't think you know or care about this character, but *I* do, so here's my argument :P
Can Alphonse Elric survive Castle Dracula?
[the answer depends a LOT on which part of which canon we're using, but we're going to go vaguely with "middle part". That is to say, armor]
Al has one HUGE advantage against Dracula, which is that he has no corporeal human body (for now). He's not completely free of blood though -- if Dracula learns about the blood seal tethering his soul to this mortal plane, I fully believe he's learned enough Dark Magicks at Scholomance to fuck it up. So the question is, would he find out? Al is usually pretty good at hiding it… unless he just decides to tell people. So it depends on how their dynamic plays out.
Al would accept the crucifix from the townsfolk, and listen to their other advice. Even if he doesn't believe them, he's a polite boy, and you never know what information might be useful! Maybe their folktales have clues about the Philosopher's Stone, you never know. (Also in one version of canon he can understand German, so let's say language barriers aren't an issue.)
Dracula is bemused when an alchemist in full plate armor turns up asking to see his library instead of the solicitor he requested. Alchemists? He hasn't run into any of those in a while. But hey, the lawyer's not here yet, he's got time to fuck with this guy and have an extra snack.
The shaving incident wouldn't happen obviously, but Dracula might realize something is amiss because Al doesn't sleep. Or will he? Does Dracula pay enough attention to know when normal humans should be sleeping and Al isn't? If so, he will probably investigate, push boundaries, or stage a confrontation until he finds out Al's deal, and then he will be PISSED. No lawyer, and now no snack! This is bullshit! From here on out, it's WAR. If not, then...
If Al realizes this is a kidnapping and not a library loan, he will play along. He might not even mind. He's been kidnapped before, and it always worked out fine. Dracula might be more creepy and threatening than his other kidnappers, but Al's dealt with a wide variety of creepy and threatening in his quest, I just don't think he'd be fazed. And he is, as already mentioned, a polite person who would want to be a respectful guest! Hmm kinda creepy that he just implied I'll never leave this place alive... oh well! Nice table setting, sir, compliments to your staff.
Being a respectful guest might not extend to staying in his room as instructed; he's a curious guy and only a stickler for the rules compared to his brother. The girlies aren't a problem for him, because he's still wearing the crucifix, but they might clue him in that Something Is Wrong and lead to Al himself forcing a confrontation with Dracula.
But even if everything goes smoothly, Al would eventually get bored with Dracula's library (if there was anything useful about the Philosopher's Stone in there, Dracula wouldn't be a vampire). At some point, Al would decide this kidnapping is over, and he would provoke the confrontation in trying to leave.
I haven't written any reason for Al to tell Dracula about his fatal weakness, so I'm gonna say Dracula can't actually do much to Al; but unfortunately I don't think Al can harm Dracula either. I don't actually remember what allowed Jonathan to hit him with a shovel but I think it involved special circumstances that do not apply to Al. However, Dracula also can't prevent Al from leaving -- neither thousand foot cliffs nor wolves are much of an obstacle to him. (Well actually, if you physically overpower him and take the armor apart, he can't walk away -- but people almost never think of that, and Dracula probably won't either.)
Which is all to say that Alphonse can survive Castle Dracula, but he probably won't have as much useful intel as Jonathan did. Mind you, he took notes! He just didn't get personal experience with as many of Dracula's powers.
And of course, his goal after this is to track down his brother -- if anyone can figure out how to kill a vampire it's Ed. Where the fuck did he get to, anyways? He'd better not be stranded in Weimar Germany. Al can absolutely walk to Munich from here, but waiting around 25-30 years for Ed to turn up would be a drag.
#also if i do it this way i can tag ramble#which is to say i am NOT sorry for ending on a Conqueror of Shamballa joke#yes it is terrible and no i will never resist#fma#dracula#fanfic#or something#long post#Al could run into the Polycule while looking for Ed. Maybe in London?#but if the Polycule is Vampire Hunting then that means Jonathan's ordeal went down and Al wouldn't have any new info for them. alas#can your fave survive castle dracula?

Zhongli:Aether, I require advice. Relationship advice.
Aether:!? Why come to me?
Zhongli:Should I have chosen to go to Childe?
Aether:No no, you did the safe thing. Honestly I can’t think of anyone in Liyue to give the most sound advice on these things. Except maybe Ningguang.
Zhongli:.....
Aether:*eyes widened* Oh my goodness it’s about Ningguang!?
Zhongli:Very observant of you. We are to meet up later for dinner. Though I’ve talked casually with her and countless others before, I fear I may somehow...squander this opportunity to connect with someone; it has been awhile.
Aether:You don’t have to pull at my heart strings like this. Now I feel nervous. But uhhh, you sure about Ningguang? Like have you thought that through?
Zhongli:I don’t know what you mean. Ningguang is a fine, respectable woman that’s dedicated to her craft. The Jade Chamber was a testament to that.
Aether:Yeah, it was. It’s as great as she is smart. That means I don’t think you’d be able to keep up being a regular funeral parlor employee. You’re going to slip up, Rex Lapis.
Zhongli:Hmmm I have thought about this. Part of being a human should include sincerity. If I am to connect with her, then it is only right that I be honest with her. However, it is unwise to open with news like that so soon. But I am sure she won’t be as surprised as common folk.
Aether:.....Zhongli, I don’t think you- actually, *pats back* I say you go on that dinner and pose a hypothetical question about Rex Lapis being alive. I think that will make things clear to you.
Zhongli:I suppose that would be better than speculating. Very well, I shall try.
Aether and Paimon:(He really doesn’t see it.)
[Half an hour into dinner]
Ningguang:Hehehe, I must say Zhongli, you continue to be quite the interesting character. If only we weren’t so busy, then we could do this more often.
Zhongli:I imagine in terms of schedules, you have hands fuller than my own.
Ningguang:True. Though I made the Jade Chamber once before, the time and effort it is taking to bring back my pride and joy isn’t going much faster than the first time it was made. I’m a patient woman though. I wouldn’t be good at what I do if I wasn’t one.
Zhongli:Well said. Say, Ningguang?
Ningguang:Yes?
Zhongli:I was discussing matters with a friend earlier today. Nothing factual, more so hypothetical and thought provoking.
Ningguang:Oh? Do tell. *sips drink*
Zhongli:My friend holds suspicions over Rex Lapis’s passing. Those suspicions gave way to the idea of the Geo Archon being alive. How would that make you feel?
Ningguang:Me? Well...I’d be as stunned as anyone else if it were true. After all, he fell from the sky right down in front of me.
Zhongli:Ah yes....that did happen didn’t it? (In hindsight, that may have landed on her on anybody for that matter.)
Ningguang:The idea of him being alive would raise a lot of questions easily. Though if you’re asking how I’d feel....I’d be happy to know such a being was still among us. Rex Lapis was quite generous and fair.
Zhongli:*smiles* That’s nice of you to-
Ningguang:But I’d also be upset that I sacrificed my Jade Chamber and Liyue was thrown into chaos over a faux death. I put everything I have into that place and being a voice to the people. To have gone through such an experience that wasn’t because of natural causes, I can’t say I’d be pleased by such knowledge.
Zhongli:Oh...I see. (That makes sense)
Ningguang:Then there’s Ganyu. She’s felt so at odds with who she is and what to do next since his passing. Seeing her lost like that pains me a bit. I doubt even she would be okay with Rex Lapis’s death being fake. Hehe, she’s a nice girl but I’m sure she’d have words with him.
Zhongli:Ah, so you would believe if he were alive, it was Rex Lapis himself that faked his death and not some outside force?
Ningguang:Of course. He’s Rex Lapis. A plan like that could only be full proof with his approval, or we would’ve intervened. I may sound a little bias, but I can’t imagine anyone containing him by force. Our Lord of Geo was far too strong for that. Unless multiple Archons were ther perpetrators, then he organized is own death; and sense the land is ravaged with warring archons right now, I don’t think they had a hand in it. They aren’t known fighting quietly.
Zhongli:(Truly...the word clever isn’t enough for her.) So you’d be angry and resent Rex Lapis? I...can understand that completely. His actions would come off a bit...much. *frowning*
Ningguang:.....
[Earlier]
Ningguang:Hello Traveler. It’s been awhile since we-
Paimon:Do you like Zhongli?
Ningguang:*red* E...Excuse me!? Wha-
Aether:Because I can tell he really likes you. Like a lot. Do you like him back?
Ningguang:I....find him charming. *blushing*
Aether:So yea?
Ningguang:Why have you come to ask this!?
Aether:...*bows*
Ningguang:Traveler?
Aether:Zhongli is a good person, but I’ll be the first to say he’s a bit of oddball. There are ways he goes about problems that I don’t necessarily agree with and he tends to rub someone the wrong way sometimes when he’s being helpful. Still, he’s a really kind individual and I can understand his actions even if I disagree. If you really like him then I hope you can see those merits too.
Ningguang:This is...sudden. Why do you feel the need to tell me this? And to bow as well, please, rise.
Aether:*relaxes* I just felt like it needed to said. That’s all.
[present]
Ningguang:...I never said I’d resent Rex Lapis.
Zhongli:Hmmm?
Ningguang:Our Lord of Geo, he’s done countless things; knows countless things. To fake is death would mean he had reasons. I know without a doubt those reasons, whatever they might be, still had Liyue and it’s people in mind. So why I personally may be upset if such a hypothetical were to be true, I also think I’d understand it; and forgive it in time. Rex Lapis, he’s kind hearted. What ever the reason, I know I could accept it. However, I wouldn’t let him off the hook. I’d make sure he continues helping people in whatever way he can. That includes helping fix the Jade Chamber. *smiling*
Zhongli:So that’s your full answer? Hmm, interesting.....*trembling* Ummm Ningguang?
Ningguang:*takes his hand* Yes?
Zhongli:If...you need assistance with the chamber, don’t hesitate to ask.
Ningguang:I won’t, thank you. (Honestly...how could I resent you when you’re this nervous?) Oh yeah, you’re gonna have to breakdown the news to Ganyu.
Zhongli:Hehe, I guess we’re done speaking in hypotheticals then?
Ningguang:I find it cute you thought we ever were.
Aether:*watching tables away* Well, guess that solves that.
Paimon: All’s well that ends well! Paimon was worried for a bit, but you’re such a bighearted softie that you basically told Ningguang what was up.
Aether:What are you talking about? All I said was Zhongli is a man with good intentions, even if they are a tad selfish. Sigh....no one wants to feel alone. Especially in a world that’s constant changing and you can’t help but be different. Finding love makes everything feel not so bad.
Paimon: Paimon couldn’t agree more!
Aether:Well now that one dinner is going well, might as well have one ourselves right? We have menus.
Paimon:Actually.....Paimon has to pass sadly. Chow down for the both of us though! *disappears*
Aether:Paimon!? But...you never miss a chance to eat. Where’d you-
???:Excuse me, mind if I join you?
Aether:*turns around*......*red*
Amber:*red dress and curly hair* I was told by someone a certain traveler would be at a table for two, looking for company?
Aether:Would this someone be a certain little floating companion that is always scheming something?
Amber:You know... I think so. *smiles* So, mind if this nervous outrider who may be a tad overdressed for this restaurant keep you company?
Aether:*smiles* I wouldn’t mind at all.

Worm Liveblog #114
UPDATE 114: Simpler Times
Last time the Undersiders had managed to defeat Coil, and took over Brockton Bay as a result. Dinah is now safe, and all is well...until forty-five minutes later, when they found out Noelle has escaped her vault. Tattletale says that’s very bad. So let’s continue!
Ah, the arc ended, and it seems what follows isn’t an interlude, but a new arc. I’m surprised – while I thought it was possible the arc would continue for maybe one chapter more, I didn’t think this would go straight into the next one. Alright! So, the new arc is called Migration.
Oh, nevermind, this is an interlude, similar to the one with the Wards ages ago, I imagine. There’s a guy called Francis, who is getting scolded for leaving when family is coming over. This Francis person is making money with something his mother doesn’t approve, and he argues they’re on the verge of getting a sponsorship. Oh boy. ‘On the verge’ means it’s not certain. I hope this Francis guy isn’t gambling much on the possibility of a sponsorship. Given how he’s arguing with this as his cornerstone, he’ll be doomed if he doesn’t get the sponsorship.
It’s even worse when it’s revealed this Francis guy isn’t officially in the group yet. Oh dang, he really is gambling a lot. I for one hope it all works well, because otherwise he’s going to get a full serving of ‘I told you so’ from his mother.
That seems to be all. Having placated his mom, Francis walks with his luggage and gets on a bus, giddy he’s possibly annoying other people, and feels smugly superior to other people. Well that’s not an endearing character trait, is it. Still, someone having a bad trait is good, as long as it’s balanced with good traits! But yeah, who is this Francis guy, anyway?
Her face lit up as she saw him. He, in turn, snapped a smart salute. “Captain Noelle, ma’am!”
Oh, I see! I see now! So that’s Noelle...hmm...if Noelle is part of this gaming group, then that’d mean the Travelers are the members of this group. In which case this Francis is either Trickster or Ballistic. Most likely Trickster, I’d say. Alright!
Noelle doesn’t appreciate the playful greetings, coyly telling him to stop, and mentions they’re ‘probationary boyfriend and girlfriend’. So they’re a couple! I see. That’s why Trickster is so invested in Coil helping Noelle. I can sympathize with that, yep. During these outrageously saccharine public displays of affection, Marissa arrives. Mars. Sundancer, no?
I wonder if by now they all had their powers. Maybe they gathered as a gaming group because of their powers. Not that I can think of how they can use their powers. Making miniature suns sure isn’t going to help your gaming skills, unless you use that sun to melt the opponents’ systems, haha
There’s Luke, there’s Jess. Hmmm...by process of elimination, those must be Ballistic and Genesis – supposing Francis really is Trickster. They’re all together. Say, wasn’t there some guy named Oliver, who stayed in the headquarters while everyone else went and fought? I think there was someone with that name. That person hasn’t appeared yet here in this meeting.
Now that they’re all gathered, they can start their discussion for real. Noelle is in charge. Does that mean Trickster – leader of the Travelers – was the second in command, and had to take charge since Noelle can’t?
Apparently they have been discussing about kicking an average player out of the group, because he’s boring and doesn’t have as many fans. Francis, on the other hand, has so many fans – fans I imagine would be upset if he’s kicked out or something. If they’re a new team, then they’ll need as many fans as they can. Pragmatism dictates the person named Cody is kicked out. The emotional factor, though, is what’s giving them trouble. Cody is their friend and this will hurt him a lot.
Noelle nodded. “Say what you will about Krouse, like how he’s crap when it comes to calling shots-”
“Hey.”
“Or even the fact that he’s prone to ignoring orders if he thinks it’ll help us. Um, he’s right so long as it’s just him operating solo, but yeah… The thing is, if we’re talking about the big picture, international recognition and going head to head with the best in the world… Krouse has the natural ability to change things up, so we can adapt our strategies to whatever they’re able to pull off.”
Okay, that definitely is Trickster. Trickster’s pretty crap at calling shots, and adapts well enough during the fights. The main character point of view is Trickster’s.
To try to convince them he’s the right person to keep, Francis argues on his behalf, saying this Cody person can’t improve any further, while he can still play better and better. They can’t wait for Cody to improve; they have to act now.
“If you fuck this up for us, you know we’ll never let you live it down,” Luke said.
It’s not like they’ll lose a local tournament. If Francis screws up, they’ll lose boatloads of money and lucrative contracts. Many would think that warrants a little more than ‘never let you live it down’, hah.
Either way, Francis’ arguments were successful. Pretty much everyone agrees to kick Cody out and keep Francis. This can’t be easy to tell Cody, who will do it? Having decided it needed to be done now, they all walk towards the place Cody is at, and it’s decided Francis won’t be right there when Cody is given the boot. Yeah, good idea. It sure would hurt to be replaced and see the guy replacing you sitting right there.
Jess and Francis ride the elevator afterwards, Genesis noting Francis is rather nervous right now.
“The more overconfident you act, the more nervous you are. And when you’re feeling down, you poke at people, provoke them. I think you get some validation out of it, like, if you can test people and they’re still your friends after, you can feel confident in that friendship.”
Well, there’s also that Francis enjoys annoying people, apparently. I guess a lot of his behavior is all about needling and annoying other people.
I’m a bit baffled they keep saying Marissa can be a megabitch. She sure seemed like the person least likely to be abrasive towards other people. Maybe she’s the kind who yells into the voice chat.
As expected, Cody didn’t take it very well. They barely got off the elevator when they started hearing the yelling, Cody is accusing Francis of being a conniving prick who started dating Noelle after she was named captain. Hm. I don’t know, I don’t think he’d be that slimy. Francis is a hella unpleasant person, but is he that much of a jerk? I don’t think so.
There’s two people named Oliver and Chris. Ah, there’s Oliver. What’s Oliver’s role in all this? It doesn’t seem like he’s part of the gaming team, so...is he just a friend who tagged along? Is he with them all because he had a power and therefore fit in the Travelers, while Cody and Chris didn’t take part in that villain team because of the lack of powers? Or perhaps...perhaps Cody and Chris are dead? There’s not that many options as to what happened to them. For all I know, they just were left behind while the Travelers...traveled. It doesn’t have to be a sinister deal.
“Cody,” Noelle started, “We talked it over-”
“Without me!”
“Because we knew you’d react like this, and we wanted to be sure we all agreed before we moved ahead.”
“And I bet Krouse was there, wasn’t he?”
“He was.”
“Real fair.”
“He kept his mouth shut,” Noelle said.
Not exactly true, Krouse thought.
He’s got a point there, that wasn’t exactly fair. Francis got the chance to argue on his behalf, Cody didn’t get that courtesy. I don’t know, seems to me like they all had already strongly considered accepting Francis into the team, before the meeting started.
As expected, Cody is furious to see Francis here. He really shouldn’t have come. A few lines later, I’m proven wrong, he should be here. So, what’s happening is that they’re going to have one session right now. If Francis does awful, then he’s out and Cody stays. Obviously Cody wants to see Francis crash and burn. I think it’s a given what the result of this all will be.
“Here, Noelle,” Krouse said. He set his luggage flat on the ground and unzipped it. There were computers inside, each half the size of a regular desktop, wrapped in layers of towels and plastic sheeting.
“Thanks for the loan. Don’t trust mine with the sheer amount of crap my cousin downloaded onto it.”
“Actually…” He trailed off, sticking his hands in his pockets. “I took my old machine, I replaced the power supply, formatted it, installed a clean OS and done all my usual tricks for clearing out the crap that we’ll never use and optimizing it. You can consider it an early Christmas present.”
Say, doing this right in front of Cody’s not going to make him stop thinking Francis is trying hard to get on Noelle’s good side to get the spot in the team.
What follows is largely paragraphs of stuff I’m not sure what to think about, because it’s them discussing their strategies to play the game. The only thing I can comment about is that Chris and Oliver are like the reserves, although neither of them are very good. Francis used to be one of them.
The strategizing stops when the building rumbles, and a blackout happens. They barely have time to wonder what’s going on and complain about the blackout when there’s a moment of weightlessness.
A heartbeat later, the windows were directly overhead, and he was falling. He started to scream, but he managed only a monosyllabic, “Ah!” before he fell onto the side of the dining room table, tumbled to one side and slammed into the chairs, the wind knocked out of him.
It sounds like the room turned 90 degrees all of a sudden, fast enough for his body to not even feel how the floor tilts and everything goes topsy-turvy. Perhaps it’s the work of a villain?
Francis was lucky enough to be able to look around and get away from immediate danger, Noelle wasn’t so lucky. She crashed onto a chair, and then the computers fell on her. That’s got to hurt, those aren’t soft objects at all. There’s no word on how the rest are like, but they must currently be being pelted by objects. I hope they’re protecting their heads, but I’m kind of expecting a fracture or two.
Noelle is so hurt she’s bleeding from the nose and mouth, that sounds kind of like a concussion. I wonder if that affected anything in the present. But hey, you know what? All that’s happening right now is a good chance for trigger events, especially because soon it’s revealed Chris is dead. What about Cody, he okay?
Since the apartment has turned ninety degrees, leaving to a safe place is going to be rather difficult. Is this apartment the only thing that rotated? What’ll they see if they manage to get to the entrance door? Hmmm...also, what caused this? There’s a mention of a constant female scream. If it’s not one of the gals who are still awake and conscious, is it the parahuman who caused this to happen?
It takes a few minutes to be able to reunite with the rest, thanks to a knotted sheet. Francis manages to climb it even though he’s carrying Noelle, reaching the place with the rest. Chris had quite the gruesome death, but at least it sounds like it may have been instant. Everyone except Marissa is trying very hard not to look at it.
“We need a way out of here first.” Luke looked up at the windows, ten feet above their heads. Neither the floor nor the ceiling offered anything to grip.
Since it’s a window that’s on what’s now the ceiling, and it seems like this apartment was on the top floor, it’d give them access to the very top of the building, no? Hm...that’d be almost impossible to go down from, unless what turned ninety degrees was the entire building – which isn’t that unlikely, but I imagine it’d cause quite the commotion outside, enough for them to hear screams and panic.
It takes some effort, but they manage to get up there. It’s pretty cold, which is bad when you’re already injured and in shock. With some luck they’ll find a safe place, but yeah, they have to get help as soon as possible.
He stared out at the city around him. Snow had been stirred into clouds, and half a dozen buildings had obviously been knocked down, judging by the remaining wreckage. Luke’s apartment building had toppled. How did it not collapse in on our heads?
Oh! Alright, the entire building did fall down! I know this is a rough situation, but given how suddenly and quickly it happened the people inside didn’t even have time to notice everything was tilting, I keep imagining the building just...turned ninety degrees in the blink of an eye. It’s such a cartoonish mental image.
The state of the building is the least of their concerns, anyway. They have to do something to survive the current problem. The constant scream isn’t helping. Soon they find the source of the song, and here is when I get giddy. There she is!
“The Simurgh,” Jess corrected, her voice small. “What is she doing here? Why is she here?”
Oh boy, that makes two Endbringers seen in the story. No, the Simurgh interfering with Dragon’s communications didn’t count, that was too brief. Only one is left! Knowing Mr. Wildbow, it’s bound to happen at some point!
Francis’ suggestion is to run, which although is a sensible reaction and definitely what anyone should do, I don’t think it’ll be of much help. Good thing it’s guaranteed most of the people here will survive to be the Travelers. I suppose the city will be destroyed and, having nothing left and no family to go back to – ouch – they turn into their nomadic lifestyle? Also, Cody is so dead. I suppose something the Simurgh does will lead to his demise.
This is a bit of a short update, but I have to end it here.
Next time: next update

The annual end-of-the-year survey is hosted by Jamie at The Perpetual Page-Turner. I’m so glad she puts the work into making this every year because it’s always a highlight to look back over my reading and blogging for the past year!
**2018 READING STATS**
Number Of Books You Read: 94 Number of Re-Reads: One. Wow. I thought it was more than that, but apparently not. My one re-read was THE GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO VICE AND VIRTUE, which I re-read twice. Genre You Read The Most From: YA contemporary. That wouldn’t be surprising normally, but especially considering I judged round 1 of the YA Fiction category this year for Cybils.
1. Best Book You Read In 2018?
Overall favorite 2018 release: Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake
Best middle grade: Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake (. . . sensing a pattern here?)
Best adult fiction: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Best Comic/Graphic Novel: Check Please! Book 1: Hockey
Best Middle Grade
Best adult fiction
Best 2018 Book Overall
2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
Allegedly by Tiffany Jackson. To be fair, this came out in 2017, and I read Jackson’s 2018 release, Monday’s Not Coming, first. Allegedly was a let down though because I loved Monday’s Not Coming so much, and Allegedly didn’t quite stack up for me.
3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?
Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram. Based on the summary, it didn’t look like my typical kind of book, but I thought it was beautifully written and I loved it. A rare five star read for me.
4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
Sadie by Courtney Summers. I tend to push Courtney Summers books anyway but Sadie seems to be an easy sell (and for good reason–it’s FANTASTIC).
5. Best series you started in 2018? Best Sequel of 2018? Best Series Ender of 2018?
Best series started-Check Please!
Best sequel/companion – Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire
Best series ender– The Way I Finally Won by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2018?
Well, considering she wrote my overall favorite book AND my favorite middle grade of the year, it’s safe to say that’s Ashley Herring Blake.
7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
Blood Water Paint by Joy McCullough. I don’t typically like novels in verse, but this was FANTASTIC and fierce and moving and emotional and ugh, I loved it.
8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
I stayed up waaaaay into the night to finish Monday’s Not Coming.
9. Book You Read In 2018 That You Would Be MOST Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
Well I always like to start a new year by re-reading my favorite book of the previous year (that’s why The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue was my one re-read of the year), so clearly that would be made Girl Made of Stars. But just so I don’t answer this book for every single question, I’ll also mention I’m very likely to re-read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2018?
I’m sure some people would find this one off-putting because of the bright yellow, but I love the cover of Pulp by Robin Talley and how vintage it looks!
11. Most memorable character of 2018?
I have to go with Sadie from well, Sadie. I just found her fascinating.
12. Most beautifully written book read in 2018?
Oh man, this one is hard. I think I have to go with Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram.
13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2018?
Ghost Boys by Jewel Parker Rhodes
14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2018 to finally read?
The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters. I only read one Sarah Waters book this year, but more will definitely come in 2019 because this book was excellent.
15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2018?
Even girls made of stars are captives, bound at the wrists and traded like property. Even girls made of stars aren’t asked, aren’t believed, aren’t considered worth the effort unless they can offer something in return. Even girls made of stars buy into those lies sometimes.
Yes, it’s from Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake, aka the book that has been my response to at least 50% of these questions.
16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2018?
longest– Green River, Running Red by Ann Rule
shortest- The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill
17. Book That Shocked You The Most
I think it’d have to be I Stop Somewhere by TE Carter (a completely underrated book, by the way)
18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
(OTP = one true pairing if you aren’t familiar)
Jack/Bitty from Check Please!
And then, not quite OTP status but romantic relationships I rooted for in books this year: Alice/Takumi from Let’s Talk About Love and and Steffi/Rhys from A Quiet Kind of Thunder.
19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
I really loved the relationship between Clara and her dad in The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo.
20. Favorite Book You Read in 2018 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
I have a couple: Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire, Ghost Boys by Jewel Parker Rhodes, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli.
Best adult fiction
21. Best Book You Read In 2018 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure/Bookstagram, Etc.:
Well, I would have never read it for it not been for Cybils judging, so I’m going with Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram.
22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2018?
Don’t have any! Maybe if I had read more adult romance. . .
23. Best 2018 debut you read?
I’m going with Blood Water Paint by Joy McCullough for this, but just know Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram was a very close second.
24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?
I’m going to say the old-school Hollywood glam setting in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was very vivid.
25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
So for me I think graphic novels really took the cake here this year. Yes, Check Please! which I’ve mentioned several times, but also The Tea Dragon’s Society by Katie O’Neill and Moonstruck volume 1 by Grace Ellis.
26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2018?
I have two, both of which have featured heavily on this survey so far, not surprisingly! Those are Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake and Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram.
27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?
Okay, since I don’t want to say Girl Made of Stars yet again, I’ll have to go with. . . Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World. Yes, by the same author as Girl Made of Stars. I had favorites this year, y’all.
28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?
Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram. I know, I know, it appears once again!
29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2018?
All of This is True by Lygia Day Penaflor. I did not necessarily enjoy it, but I can say it was very unique.
30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?
Okay, so first I was going to say The Perfect Sister by Jessica Knoll, which I did NOT enjoy one bit, but then I thought about it, and. . . The Universe is Expanding and So Am I by Carolyn Mackler. I’m particularly mad about that one because parts of the books are good, but I find the entire premise flaw and really upsetting. Also, it deals with a sister coming to terms with the fact that her brother committed a rape, and it’s hard when my favorite book of the year had a similar premise and dealt with it SO MUCH BETTER.
1. New favorite book blog/Bookstagram/Youtube channel you discovered in 2018?
I’m ashamed to say that going back over my subscriptions, none of them were new this year.
2. Favorite post you wrote in 2018?
I mostly wrote reviews (and I really want to get back into doing discussions and other features!), but I’m really proud of my review for Blood Water Paint.
3. Favorite bookish related photo you took in 2018:?
Again, something else I didn’t do very much of this year!
4. Best bookish event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, etc.)?
I didn’t really get to participate in any bookish events this year, but hopefully 2019 will change that!
5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2018?
I have to say being a round 1 Cybils judge! It was a lot of work and reading, but it was such a worthwhile endeavor.
6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?
Just finding time! I haven’t been nearly as active as I wanted because I graduated grad school, which I THOUGHT would give me more time, but then I moved from one end of Texas to another, started a new job, got settled in, etc. It’s just been a LOT.
7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?
Well, my most popular post was from a few years ago: What do Do with Books You Don’t Want Anymore. My most popular post actually written this year was my review of Girl Made of Stars, which is not surprising since I’ve basically been yelling about this book for months.
8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?
I posted one Saturday morning cup post this year, and I definitely wish that one had got more loved.
9. Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?
Hmm, well, I got to visit The Strand in New York City for the first time so that was definitely a fun bookish discovery/adventure!
10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?
I didn’t really set any challenges or goals, and I’m glad because this year was busy enough without those!
1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2018 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2019?
The Book of Essie by Meghan MacLean Weir. Not because I’m super excited about it (I mean, I want to read it, but it’s not a book I was anticipating), but because it’s due back to the library in eight days.
2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2019 (non-debut)?
Well, considering two of her books were two of my favorites this year, I’m gonna have to say The Mighty Heart of Sunny St James by Ashley Herring Blake.
3. 2019 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?
I have two: I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver and These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling.
4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2019?
In A Wayward Dream by Seanan McGuire. I’ve loved every installment in the Wayward Children series, so I expect this to be no different (and perhaps one of my goals this year will to be re-read the series).
5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2019?
Blog more! I’ve missed it.
6. A 2019 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone (if applicable):
I’ve only read an ARC of one 2019 release, but I do recommend it! I read We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia and was enthralled.
2018 End of the Year Survey! The annual end-of-the-year survey is hosted by Jamie at The Perpetual Page-Turner. I'm so glad she puts the work into making this every year because it's always a highlight to look back over my reading and blogging for the past year!

Soul eater
Thanks for sending an ask, anon !
Favorite character: Maka. Maka has been my role model the whole time I’ve loved Soul Eater, she’s imperfect and reckless at times but she’s brave, sweet, determined, courageous, kicks ass at 15 ????, goals… Yeah. I can also see what’s not to love but I ignore them basically xD
Second favorite character: Hmm. Death the Kid. I love the reserved personality this guy has—it’s like he can be calm at any situation (unless it’s an attack on his OCD of course) and… Well, he’s the son of Death. And fuck man look at that ass. I mean badass. Yeah. He’s really cool.
Least favorite character: Err… Eruka ? I don’t know, I don’t really hate anyone in the SE universe so much but she gets on my nerves a lot, for some reason… She’s cute though. She just gets to me at times. XD
The character I’m most like: TSUBAKI. Yes. The sweet as fuck cinnamon roll ! She’s very nice and people love her and she loves helping people, she tolerates even the most annoying asshole in the school (Blackstar) with no problem at all just because she KNOWS he’s the best there is and she believes in him. Tsubaki is also very helpful and she’ll put everyone she loves first before herself. Is very nice and sweet and really cute but provoke her or her family/friends/meister and she’ll cut your ass into minced meat.
Favorite pairing: SoMa ! This shows with how much I draw them, doesn’t it…? @-@ Well, I love SoMa so much, they have this ‘best friend’ troupe that I really fucking love. Even though they weren’t canon, to me they are, and they’ve been my otp since
Least favorite pairing: Uhhhh Medusa x Stein ? Sure, they have the chemistry of being mad doctors and I respect any other reason you ship this (if you do) but wtf guys, Medusa clearly wants him insane and mad. For her use. You don’t do that to people you love, sorry. (and maybe because I’m more into Marie x Stein, they’re like grown-up SoMa if you ask me xD)
Favorite moment:
In the anime ? Each and every fight scene. I love how they have this teamwork even if they’re all a bunch of misfits (lol GotG shit) and how they seek to protect each other. I also love how they are diverse and how the seven of them are a team even if they have pairs of their own. Some teams would just care for their personal partner but they don’t do that, and I love it.
In the manga: I love the part where Soul and Maka fought this clown thingy ? It was supposed to be with Kid but Kid was stuck outside because he had to find a ‘proper’ entrance. (they had to enter through a vent lol). It’s chapters 42-45 I think ? It’s a three-chapter thing, idk, but I love it so much ;v;
Rating out of 10: 8/10. Soul Eater has its flaws, like how they decided to end it with a punch the anime. It was cool but it was logically shit, somehow. And I’m also disappointed SoMa wasn’t canon—but it’s fine ! It leaves us with more to work with, so it’s a plus for fanarts and fanfics xD It’s 8 because the show is great and I love how the story went, I love the uniqueness of the whole “human turning to weapon” thing (yes ik that somehow exists in guilty crown but ehhhh), I also love the animation style (lol SE NOT not included—it’s cute but I like old SE more) and… It changed my life. A lot. So… That’s it ! :D
Thanks for sending an ask again, sweetie ❤

saw a lil questionnaire thing and thought it might be fun...
0.Which Fallout game are they from?
Fallout 3
Which faction(s) did they join and which did they destroy? Why?
He sided with..the brotherhood… destroyed the Enclave cause they.. are Jerks.
What is their S.P.E.C.I.A.L.?
S-4
P-6
E-9
C-10
I-7
A-6
L-5 (Not entirely figured out)
Give us a summary of their backstory.
Grew up in vault 101, not very liked and bullied by them Tunnel Snakes. Even though his G.O.A.T did not direct him to be the new Vault doctor, (I haven't actually decided what his goat told him), his father forced him to learn medicine anyhow and it took up a lot of his free time.
What’s their full name and does it have a meaning? Do they have any nicknames and how did they get em?
Have not actually thought of a last name. Yahya does not really have a meaning that reflects his own character. Nicknames (besides nosebleed) he does not have very much, his names pretty short and simple as is. Maybe some people call him just kid if they cannot get it right.
What’s their sexual, romantic, and gender orientation? Do they feel comfortable telling other people?
He's gay. In the vault, he only ever told Amata and Jonas, though he is not sure who else may have known. Late in life, he has come to accept himself a lot more and is much more open about it.
Do they have any mental illnesses? How do they cope?
Not really any mental illness.
Do they have any medical conditions? Is medicine/ treatment available for them?
Not really, no. He's the doctors son, so he has the resources if he so needed them.
How much do they care about their outer appearance? What’s their “beauty routine”? How often do they shower/ bathe?
Very much! Whenever he gets back to Megaton he immediately goes to take a bath. (He loves himself a bath..) He tries his best to find any sort of lotions and things of the sort, likes his hair and skin soft.
What do they fear the most?
Ending up all alone.
They’re biggest flaw? Do they recognize it as a flaw?
Hmm. He still has a pretty bad temper. He can be ignorant even when he is trying to do good and end up doing poorly. He recognizes both of these things and tries to improve himself.
What are they most insecure about?
Baby face Perhaps his own reliance on other people, and how weak he is by himself.
What Wasteland threat do they fear the most? (ex. Deathclaws, super mutants, raiders)
Hmm it's basic but deathclaws are obv terrifying.. Centaurs also make him uneasy.
What’s their zodiac sign or which one do you think they relate to the most? What are their placements (if you know them)? (ex. Aries sun, Taurus moon, Aquarius Venus)
Cancer.. (July 13)
What’s their Myers–Briggs Type? (ex. ENTP, ISFJ)
ENFP
What Harry Potter house would they be in? (ex. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw)
I don't know very much about this :(
Which Pokemon Go team would they choose? (ex. Instinct, Valor, Mystic)
I don't know very much about this either :(
Out of the nine forms of intelligence (rhythmic, spatial, linguistic, mathematical, kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, and existential) which one(s) are they really good at and which one(s) is(are) their weakest?
Hmm intrapersonal I think.
What natural alignment are they? (ex. Lawful Good, Chaotic Evil)
Chaotic good
Do they have any hobbies? What are they?
He likes to read a lot.
Do they have a favorite holiday? How do they celebrate it?
I think he'd like Christmas. He would wanna put up decorations: mistletoe [;)], maybe a something resembling a tree depending on what he could get his hands on. I'm sure he spends a lot of time on gifts and making sure they're very nice.
What’s their favorite season?
Uuuh autumn maybe? He is not all too picky.
Do they have a temper or are they level headed?
Though not as much when he's older, he has a pretty bad temper and gets riled up easy.
Do they express their emotions freely or hide their true feelings?
He tries hard to put on a happy face and won't talk much about his more deep feelings, unless he is very close to them. Overall he is unafraid to say what he thinks on a more casual level (if someone is being irritating, etc)
Are they a leader or a follower?
More of a leader.
How do they come off to others? What first impression do they usually make?
He is very nice and charismatic, or at least tries to be. He can come off as an asshole, though usually if he is provoked by another asshole. Otherwise, he is friendly and well liked!
Do they prefer to travel alone or with company? Who have they traveled with if any? Current companion if any?
He loves company! He loves Charon! He also travels with Fawkes!
Would you describe them as selfless or selfish? Does it depend on the situation?
He does attempt to be more selfless and has a genuine care for other people, but in some ways his own subconscious selfishness gets in the way. He is working on trying to be better.
What do they find most attractive in others? Name at least one psychological and physical trait. (doesn’t have to be romantic attraction)
He loves himself a BIG GUY. Tall, strong, etc. In terms of psychological, someone who's nice to him and independent, in charge. Bonus points if they shower him with attention.
Do they flirt often? How easily do they fall in love?
He flirts A LOT, and crushes pretty easily on anyone who is nice to him. Love is different and slower, but he is easy to love and loves strongly.
What’s their love life like? Are they interested in anyone or in a relationship?
He sleeps around, but would prefer an actual relationship. He's interested in Charon, but that's a longer and slower road. He still sleeps with other men, his sex drive is horrific...
Do they prefer to solve things diplomatically or using violence?
If he can talk his way out of a situation, that would be ideal. He is unafraid to bring violence to those he deems deserving, but if he can will stick to speech.
What is their combat style? What range do they prefer? Do they sneak?
He's pretty messy and doesn’t mind it. His aim is not super great so he tries to get decently close. He's not very good at sneaking, in fact he's pretty clumsy in general.
What weapon(s) do they always carry with them?
Combat shotgun is good. Some type of energy weapon.
Their most prized possession?
I cannot think of anything he might hold so dearly? He loved his BB gun but gave it to Sticky when he escorted him.
Their thoughts on power armor?
Too hot and clunky :(
Favorite armor/ outfit?
Combat armor!
How’s their aim? Do their hands shake while pointing a gun?
His aim is not very good. It gets the job done but he needs to be in a pretty close range. In the beginning, yea his hands shook like all hell but he's more capable now.
What are their thoughts on having to kill on a daily bases in order to survive? Does it take a toll on them? Or do they shake it off rather easily?
Originally made him sick to his stomach, tries desperately not to hurt anyone or anything. Now, he is more comfortable with it and accepted it as a necessity to survive.
Thoughts on death if any? (ex. Fear it, accept it)
I think he is pretty scared of death, he isn’t ready to die.
Do they move around a lot or prefer to have a place to call home?
He loves to have a place to call home. It's something to look forward to going back when he's out, and a great source of comfort.
What’s their favorite location?
Can I say home again.. Uuh out in the wastes, he does like visiting other vaults. He loves going to big town and is on good terms with everyone there.
Their opinions on ghouls, feral and not feral?
I'm not saying he has a ghoul FETISH but...he certainly doesn't mind. Ferals are yucky, but no more yucky than any other wasteland menace.
Do they scavenge for their supplies or simply buy them?
He often loots dead bodies for whatever he can find, but certain things he does prefer to buy.
Are they the type to get distracted and go off to an unknown nearby location or do they stay on track?
Fjghdgf oh big building ?? cool lets go there…
How do they sleep? Are they picky about where and how or can they sleep basically anywhere?
He can pretty easily fall asleep. He's a heavy sleeper, moves like crazy and in very strange ways, and makes very guttural and peculiar noises.
What’s their favorite radio station and song? (post-apocalypse)
Galaxy News Radio obv.. Uhh he likes lets go sunning. Overall, he is a real sucker for romance songs though.
What’s their favorite post-apocalyptic food? Are they a picky eater? Do they know how to cook?
Noodles! He isn't all too picky and can't cook very well.
What’s their favorite beverage? Do they drink alcohol?
He likes nuka cola and wine. He only ever gets drunk during celebrations or occasions.
Do they have any tag skills?
Speech, Medicine
Anything they like to collect? (ex. Unique weapons, Bobbleheads)
He always keeps the vault suit whenever he happens upon them in their respective vault.
Are they good at disarming traps or do they constantly miss them?
He quiets them..with his body……

Way back in 2015, I did Perpetual Page Turner’s end-of-year book survey. I could have sworn I also did it last year, but I guess I didn’t! Here are this year’s answers. I’d love to know your thoughts as well. Feel free to shoot me a message!
Number of books you read: 140! Number of re-reads: 1 Genre you read the most from: romance
1. Best book you read in 2017? Hands down, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. 2. Book you were excited about and thought you were going to love more but didn’t? The Fortunate Ones by R.S. Grey. 3. Most surprising (in a good or bad way) book you read? Maybe Kissing Max Holden by Katy Upperman? I thought it was going to be a cutesy book about a romance between neighbors but it really just ends up being about a guy cheating on his girlfriend. 4. Book you pushed the most people to read? I don’t think I’ve really pushed a lot of books this year, but I do incessantly recommend anything by Krista & Becca Ritchie. 5. Best series you started in 2017? I mostly read standalones this year, but I could definitely go with Krista & Becca Ritchie’s new Like Us series. 6. Best sequel of 2017? Again with the Ritchies... Infini for sure. 7. Best series ender of 2017? Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab. 8. Favorite new author you discovered in 2017? R.S. Grey. 9. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read? Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. 10. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year? I don’t read a lot of books that fit that description, but I did have a hard time putting S.D. Grimm’s Summoner down, so we’ll go with that. 11. Book you read in 2017 that you’re most likely to re-read next year? I don’t do re-reads unless required. 12. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2017? A Million Junes by Emily Henry. 13. Most memorable character of 2017? Farrow Keene from the Like Us series. 14. Most beautifully written book read in 2017? I know it’s a really polarizing book, but I loved E. Lockhart’s writing in We Were Liars. 15. Most thought-provoking or life-changing book of 2017? Hmm, what a question. Maybe We Should All Be Feminists? 16. Book you can’t believe you waited until 2017 to finally read? I read a lot of 2017 and 2018 releases and not a lot of older books, but I could probably go with either Brown Girl Dreaming or Everything, Everything. 17. Favorite passage or quote from a book you read in 2017? This is not a deep or thought-provoking passage, but I loved this line in My Lady Jane since it was such a funny Monty Python reference: “Who are you calling beef-witted?” she laughed at him. “Your mother was a hamster, and your father stank of elderberries!” 18. Shortest and longest books of 2017? According to Goodreads, my shorted was To Cast a Cliche by Aubrey Wynne (15 pages) and my longest was Second Chance Seal by BB Hamel (712 pages). There’s no way that book was 712 pages, though, so I’m going with A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab (624 pages). 19. Book that shocked you the most (plot twist, character death, etc)? All the Bright Places. See below. 20. OTP OF THE YEAR -- I will go down with this ship: Luka Kotova and Baylee Wright in Infini. Give me all of the pining from afar. 21. Favorite non-romantic relationship of the year? The Hale/Meadows/Cobalt siblings in the Like Us series! 22. Favorite book you read in 2017 from an author you’ve read previously? I’m so sorry but I have to do Infini again. 23. Best book you read in 2017 that you chose solely based on a recommendation from someone else or peer pressure? The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice & Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. 24. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2017? Davis Price from Arm Candy or Julian Lefray from The Allure of Julian Lefray. 25. Best 2017 debut? The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It’s the best book I’ve read in years. 26. Best worldbuilding or most vivid setting you read this year? Maybe 27 Hours by Tristina Wright? I didn’t read a lot of books this year that really needed a lot of worldbuilding. 27. Book that put a smile on your face or was the most fun to read? My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. 28. Book that made you cry or nearly cry in 2017? So I actually very rarely cry while reading, but a ton of books just decimated my heart this year. The Fortunate Ones by R.S. Grey, A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab, and All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven immediately come to mind. 29. Hidden gem of the year? I’ll call this hidden because I haven’t brought it up a lot -- Operation Prom Date by Cindi Madsen. 30. Book that crushed your soul? Ugh, definitely A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab. I’m still not over Holland and it’s been months! 31. Most unique book you read in 2017? Probably The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry. It’s not often that you find a YA novel set in Inquisition-era France that focuses on a young woman who hears the voice of God. 32. Book that made you the most mad? All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I think the author had good intentions, but the book was really irresponsible. I wrote a really detailed review if you’re interested.
1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2017? I’ve been following the same handful of book blogs for years, but I did recently start following girlxoxo, which has been a lot of fun. 2. Favorite review you wrote in 2017? I’ve written 140 book reviews this year (possibly more, because I was a little delayed at reviewing book from the end of 2016) so this is a really hard question! I think my spoiler-filled, semi-ranty, essay-length review of A Conjuring of Light is probably my favorite. I got so emotional about that book. The thought of Holland still breaks my heart. Here we go again... 3. Best discussion or non-review post that you had on your blog? According to my blog stats, it’s my top ten anticipated releases for the second half of 2017. 4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes)? I don’t do a lot of events because of social anxiety, but I’m trying! I joined Krista & Becca Ritchie’s Fizzle Force and try to participate in the events there. I would love to go to a signing but I feel like I’d probably just clam up and forget how to speak. 5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2017? Alright, there are two. First was getting an ARC of Renegades by Marissa Meyer, which was totally unexpected and totally awesome. Second was that publishes and authors started reaching out and offering me ARCs this year, which was also totally unexpected and totally awesome. 6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year? Definitely moving! It took up so much time and so much effort! I don’t think I read anything for at least a month. 7. Most popular post this year on your blog? My review of Renegades by Marissa Meyer! 8. Post you wish got a little more love? Probably Top Ten Tuesdays in general. I love doing these lists and I usually end up putting a lot of time and effort into them. Sometimes they’re hits and sometimes they get literally zero attention. 9. Best bookish discovery (sites, stores, etc)? Probably booko, which compares prices between major retailers, and bookoutlet, which has huge discounts on popular titles. 10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year? Yes! I completed my goal of reading 125 books, the 2017 Debut Author Challenge, and both Modern Mrs. Darcy reading challenges. I keep track of my challenges here if you’re interested.
1. One book you didn’t get to in 2017 that will be your #1 priority in 2018? Probably Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen, which I got in 2016 and planned to read in 2017. Hopefully, 2018 will be its year. 2. Book you’re most anticipating for 2018 (non-debut)? That’s a really hard question because I’m anticipating so many books, but probably My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. 3. 2018 debut you’re most anticipating? So far, You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon. 4. Series ending/sequel you’re most anticipating in 2018? The Lady’s Guide to Piracy & Petticoats by Mackenzi Lee. 5. One thing you hope to accomplish or do in your reading/blogging life in 2018? There are a few things I can say here. First, I obviously want to meet my reading goals and finish my reading challenges. Second, I want to maintain relationships with the publishers and publicists who have been so great about providing me with ARCs! (I’d also like to hopefully build relationships with more publishers.) Finally, I hope to be a bit more active in the bookish world outside of my blog. I’ve had this blog for almost five years now and I think it’s well beyond the time that I should be getting out there and spreading the word. 6. A 2018 release you’ve already read and recommend to everyone? Unfortunately, I haven’t loved any of the 2018 releases I’ve read so far. At least not enough to recommend to everyone. But there are a ton of them I’m looking forward to!
