idk like when you start adhd meds it doesn't really feel like anything is happening, in my anecdotal experience.
the first time i took my dose i had like one day where i was sitting in class staring at the teacher and going Huh i can actually key in on different things really hard. and it was very weird being able to shift my focus at will and kinda... boring. like i wasn't going to drift off into whatever equation sounds cool or drawing anime characters in my notebook, i could actually focus on the lesson for a full hour. but time passed the same and i still got bored and could choose to focus on something else, the difference was just that i was CAPABLE of choosing what to focus on.
then i got used to it very very quickly and didn't really notice anything different again. most of my evaluation of if it was working or not had to come from my parents and teachers because i just couldn't tell. according to them, i stopped interrupting in class and conversation so much, didn't daydream/doodle in class as often, made less mistakes in class, and let other people talk more. and i noticed some kinda tangential things like my insomnia improved because i could stick to a nighttime routine better and my thoughts raced less if i went to bed before the meds wore off, i got more large scale art projects done because i could slow down and not rush through pieces, i did a lot more journalling and writing down all my constant barrage of thoughts instead of drowning them out or rambling at people.
but it's not, you know, a miracle drug. most of the time if i miss a dose i don't notice until halfway through the day and it's more of a mild annoyance than a debilitating problem. ive missed a couple weeks a couple times from pharmacy fuckups and maybe fallen behind on studies a little and had a harder time talking to people. but my life was mostly together before the meds and they're not really the deciding factor in whether i get things done or not. they just make my quality of life better mostly.
which is why i don't understand how people take them recreationally. it doesn't feel like anything! honestly the adjustment period of starting them made me get LESS done bc i had to get used to making an active choice to do like, stay after school in the library and do my homework every day and not just letting the urge take me during other classes or lunch or at 3am. i felt like i stopped enjoying a lot of my favorite media because i didn't have the same level of energy and brain space devoted towards them all the time. i had to start practicing my art regularly instead of drawing whenever i felt like it. everything was an active choice, instead of just riding the wave of life. how is that fun?

I haven’t been here long. What irritating changes have been made?
Credit where it's due, some changes have been good, like polls and stuff! But the big recent changes thus far that I would classify as irritating are:
- The UI change. This one may be less irritating for newcomers because it's basically the same layout as twitter and instagram, but for a lot of folks who've been here a long time, it feels cramped and like a loss of identity for the site. For many, the appeal of tumblr is that it ISN'T an algorithm hell like twitter or insta. Also, there's the annoyance of having to relearn where everything is, because it all got moved around.
- The users being lab rats for various tests the devs wanna pull out of nowhere without consenting to beta testing new site features- like the one that took away user icons on the dash for like half the site. They finally put them back after getting enough feedback that said NO, but users were so used to their feedback being disregarded that they were half expecting the change to be pushed through anyway.
- The Netflix tie-in advertising being pushed even to people who had PAID tumblr for a no-ads experience. Complete with them somehow thinking it would be a good idea to put an unescapable-by-scrolling spooky clown on peoples' dashboards that u had to use ublock to get rid of. While I'm not scared of clowns and often find them quite charming, it sucks that staff didn't take coulrophobia being a common fear into account.
- A wave of fully sfw trans posts being wrongfully marked Mature and staff doing little to nothing about it. Not sure if this is still ongoing, but it destroyed a lot of trust and good will. (LGBT+ users have been having to fight a constant war against censorship ever since the adult content ban on tumblr, so yeah... Nevar 4get the list of banned search words that would bring back no results, like 'girl')
- The site gradually moving away from customization. Tumblr is a BLOGGING site. But it seems to have lost sight of that fact, because most new users don't even know you can fully customize your blogs with css and stuff (an option that is now off by default for new accounts!), because of the in-dash viewer giving you only how blogs look on mobile, which is a lot more uniform. There, it's more like every other site- you get a banner and icon. Oh, but you can change colors and fonts from a drop-down list too, that's cool I guess. Though they recently took away custom color schemes on Message windows, just another little bit of personalization taken away.
- TUMBLR. LIVE. Basically tumblr teamed up with a skeevy dating app partner to allow for livestreams- but not the cool kinda livestreams like on twitch where you can draw or play games, no- to a site full of people who value anonymity, they decided to push phone cam only livestreams. Not only that but by agreeing to the terms, you're giving out tons of personal data including your location to said skeevy dating app partner and all of THEIR third-party ad partners. Needless to say, most people didn't wanna use it, so instead of users it's flooded by p*rn bots (which is ANOTHER issue we've been dealing with for a long time and have been getting an even bigger influx of FROM tumblr live) and scammers. And thus, since tumblr likes to put a carousel of current streams on people's dashes, you often get softcore p*rn thumbnails from the bot streams with no way to avoid it except for toggling off tumblr live entirely.
- Oh wait. That's right. You CAN'T toggle it off. Because you can only snooze it for a while until BAM, you're jumpscared by a carousel of ladies licking your screen again! But hey, at least they made the snooze 30 days instead of the 7 it used to be, right? Yeah, except for the fact that you can't get rid of the tumblr live button itself on the app anymore, and now it's front and center with a NEW notification tag on it, overlapping your dash and cramming useful stuff like the search button out of the way.
NOW- A lot of this stuff CAN be at least mostly fixed on desktop by installing ublock and xkit and tampermonkey + dashboard unfucker... But that's a lot of stuff just to make the site usable, you know?

btw if any game journalist or reviewer once vengeance comes out does that whole “it’s persona without the heart” shit ever again and use the bench as a way to back that up since “it isn’t like the social links” they should explode.
the protag and aogami’s relationship is a highlight of 5 and should be given more time to shine. vengeance seems to be doing this with the devil’s backyard thing but i’m also hoping there’s even more of those relationship development moments in the main plot. the trope of robots turning into father figures/actual individuals especially because of the protagonist is a god tier one. please let there be more of this in the future instead of some dating sim side mode just to get one ounce of character depth that never shows up in the main game outside of their introduction.
seriously i never got the argument when modernsona actively butchers the main cast in the main story unless it’s the main protag and the antagonistic force there was never the same amount of heart journalists claim there is

top 5 great moments in otherwise dogshit shows??
HMMMMMMMMM this is hard because when I don't like a show I usually just stop watching it lol. But I did make an effort to watch Every Single Heisei Rider (yes ik I still have to watch Kuuga and Hibiki didn't have good subs when I decided to do this) and more or less succeeded and did not have a good time with a lot of them so Here. Perhaps some controversial takes incoming lol
Yuto and Deneb's tearful lil hug and make up was very cute even if I loathed basically every single moment of Kamen Rider Den-O. (<-guy who is completely immune to manzai comedy to the point of actively disliking it.)
the whole Onari and Javert plotline in Kamen Rider Ghost was really cool and honestly I wish they cut like 90% of whatever the fuck else was going on with Makoto and Alain to follow them a bit more. Like, a goofy-ass monk rehabilitating a born soldier who thinks he has no purpose but to serve a genocidal prince... chef kiss
Magical Girl Beast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kamen Rider Wizard
ok so Kiva is objectively awful in over 9000 different ways HOWEVER basically every scene with Otoya and Jiro is gold and the famous bathtub scene especially. I'd also posit that Kiva has some really great fight scenes as well despite the suit nearly killing Takaiwa lol
I was going to include Gaim here too because I hated Gaim but I genuinely can't think of a moment in it that I liked that wasn't just "looking at Takatora" which I don't think necessarily counts as "great moments" so much as "great casting". Well what is tokusatsu for if not eye candy for boylikers

It's getting to the point where instead of being encouraged, I just get pissed when people tell me their friends' success stories with getting jobs as software devs without formal education.
Everyone is like "oh yeah my friend did it without a degree, you can too!" And I'm like ok how did they get past the auto rejectors that won't even look at you if you don't have a degree? How good were they before they were hired, and who supported them while they educated themselves? Or who agreed to take them under the wing and give them a chance even though they were green?
I know people are trying to be encouraging but it's starting to feel less like "I believe you can do it" and more like "if you haven't done it yet, what's wrong with you?" They'll be like "you don't need a degree to succeed, just a willingness to learn" and I'm like, I know that as well as anyone, but to the people responsible for making budget decisions, I'm too much of a risk. What do I have to show for myself to them?
Like at the end of the day it just feels like either these folks were super lucky or I'm super unlucky and either way, hearing their stories doesn't usually help or encourage me. I'm fighting an uphill battle here trying to convince folks who think we're in an economic downtown, that a US-based junior developer is a good investment. Yuck. If you don't have anything helpful to say then at this point just don't say anything 😭

i love alternate universes where they only change a few small things here and there, because its mostly just funny quirks with the specific purpose of making a world thats almost-but-not-quite home, like changing the name of popular apps, or fashion or customary greetings, but my favourite has to be the decision to have a world where everyone writes on clear laminate sheets. aesthetically superb but practically horrid. 10/10 choice.
