A general tip for students who are sending those dreaded Religious Absence Emails to your professors: Rather than asking permission to take the day(s) off, politely let them know that you will be taking the day(s) off.

In other words, consider not saying this:

"May I miss class on [date] so I can observe [holiday]?"

It's not that there's anything wrong with the above, per se. But because it's phrased as a request, it risks coming across as optional — a favor you hope to be granted. Problem is, favors are not owed, and so unfortunately asking permission opens the door for the professor to respond "Thanks for asking. No, you may not. :)"

Instead, try something along the lines of:

"I will need to miss class on [date] because I will be observing [holiday]. I wanted to let you know of this conflict now, and to ask your assistance in making arrangements for making up whatever material I may miss as a result of this absence."

This is pretty formal language (naturally, you can and should tweak it to sound more like your voice). But the important piece is that, while still being respectful, it shifts the focus of the discussion so that the question becomes not "Is it okay for me to observe my religion?", but rather, "How can we best accommodate my observance?"

Because the first question should not be up for debate: freedom of religion is a right, not a favor. And the second question is the subject you need to discuss.

the problem with splitting novel!mdzs into turnabouts is that flashbacks are a huge chunk of the book but they don't have mysteries/ cases to solve so they've gotta be lumped together with present day stuff. imo? many of the flashbacks would likely have to be abridged so they could be retold ala DL-6, SL-9, or the fourth grade incident, where characters talk about it over some pieces of art. this is really difficult when theres a metric ton of unspoken, complex, and signifcant history between every character lmao

there's not as much of a problem with the cql timeline but i have not finished it. so.

the opening cutscenes in ace attorney always show the murder and/or the murderer plotting. the first cutscene of the game would be MXY summoning WWX, muttering about getting revenge on his family (it would also be good for him to mention the yllz being dead because that's how the novel starts.) cut to WWX's POV as he wakes up covered in blood and the investigation segment begins.

for investigations of monsters (goddess, saber, etc) the cutscene would be a scene of some poor throwaway cultivator getting their shit wrecked.

it would be cool to make a breakdown for JGY but again I need to review that scene cause I don't know who I'd base him on. maybe Vasquez or Dahlia.

UNDERTALE PUPPET AU

Hey, fellas. Considering Goulash’s backstory, I’m going to be making a new Underale AU revolving around the concept of puppets/muppets/dolls/marionettes. This is partially inspired by the desire to give Goulash a heavy fascination with puppets and partially by the want to give him an interesting and cohesive backstory.

Goulash never officially meets his parents, Fresh and Greaser (or at least knows who they are if they collide), nor does he ever have the luxury of childhood, instantly conceived as a parasite that infiltrates adult bodies due to their greater power and soul strength compared to children—though this doesn’t mean Goulash never had adult figures to help guide him.

Regardless, I thought a puppet-themed AU would also be a great idea revolving around Goulash due to his parasitic nature and how well themes of manipulation, alternative control, and hostage could easily go hand-in-hand with puppets. Though presented as a child-friendly AU where the entire Undertale cast is replaced with various differentiating puppet versions of themselves, the AU is nothing short of horrifying and sinister, with underlying manipulative themes stitched into the seams.

The AU is still in the newborn stages. All you need to know is that there are going to be five (or three) new characters out of the entire original cast that will serve as Goulash’s “caregivers” or “guidance.” I also wanted to brainstorm a creative name for this AU since I’m pretty sure Underpuppet and Puppettale have already been taken. Plus, I wanted it to be something innovative and interesting.

It could also be an AU that many could separate Goulash’s story from if anyone just wanted to have fun with the silly, horror puppet AU. I wouldn’t mind.

Ok so in all seriousness, I think Weston College Arc was kind of a meh arc. I just feel like it didn't have as much impact unlike the other arcs. Like some characters did carry over but they were kinda meh? Imo there was a lot going on, but I feel like the build up to the arc didn't really live up to the reveal towards the end? Like okay, just another build up to the BDs. I'm not really surprise that it's Undertaker. What's new.

Do I still love this arc? YES! It's funny, ridiculous and I LOVE IT!! I feel like it's one of the few arcs where O!ciel gets a glimpse of what his life could have been had he lived a normal life. I feel like Yana was being self indulgent in this arc, but that what makes it even more charming for me.

I remember when I was young when this arc started. I hated my school irl, so seeing Ciel experiencing school life in a way that was different from mine was weirdly fun. I felt like I was living vicariously through him.

He may keep telling himself and Sebastian that it was all an act and that he never cared about any of it, which is true to some extent, like real. The system is rotten, school is overrated, Ciel would choose social misfits over these rich white boys any day etc, but I also think it's Ciel's own way of coping because he knows that he can't get too attached. Deep down I think he DID enjoy some of it, especially knowing how he used to be the spare, the sickly boy that no one expects anything from. The fact that he was able to win the cricket match (even if its by cheating but I have a feeling his dad cheated too) I'm sure this experience meant something to him.

Yeah sure, it's more of a breather since it's not as dark or as game changing as the other arcs, but that's also probably why Weston College Arc was such a comfort arc to me. It's a treat to see Ciel and the midfords in a more relaxed setting and getting some bits of lore in Vincent and Diederich. I just enjoyed seeing a different side to Ciel that gets (or at least pretend) to be a normal boy.

Also for a manga that has Sebastian and Ciel going undercover in different missions. I just feel like there needs to be AT LEAST one arc where they undercover on a School. (I was also hoping that there would be more gothic academia and horror. There's an inherent creepiness to historical boarding schools that I wish they utilized more)

But still, It's just refreshing to see Ciel finish a mission without much emotional damage. So as much as I agree that Public School Arc is one of the weaker arcs in Kuro. I'm still glad it exists and I greatly enjoyed it.

A Harvard University law student who was charged with two misdemeanors after accosting an Israeli classmate last October has now landed a job in Washington, D.C.'s public defender's office.

The student, identified in a Washington Free Beacon report as Harvard Law Review editor Ibrahim Bharmal, has landed an immigration law clerkship with the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, according to a LinkedIn post. Bharmal and divinity school graduate student Elom Tettey-Tamaklo were each charged with two misdemeanors on May 19 stemming from their conduct at an Oct. 18 "die-in" protest held outside Harvard Business School. Bharmal and Tettey-Tamaklo were captured on camera accosting a first-year Israeli business school student, surrounding the student and making it difficult for him to walk freely, as keffiyeh-clad onlookers shouted, "SHAME!"

Bharmal was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery and with violations of the Massachusetts Civil Rights Act, which prohibits attempts to "intimidate or interfere with … any other person in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him [or her] by the constitution." Bharmal is expected back in court in September for his arraignment and faces up to 100 days in jail for each count, court filings reviewed by the Free Beacon show.

There is no indication that Harvard has taken any disciplinary action against Bharmal. When asked if his pending charges and a possible conviction would impact his graduation—scheduled for next year—Harvard told the Free Beacon that it does "not comment on individual considerations related to discipline or student status."

Since the incident, Bharmal has remained in good standing with the school. In fact, Bharmal avoided discipline altogether, according to a January legal complaint. He is pursuing a joint degree program at the Ivy League university, namely a law degree and a master's in public policy, and still lists being an editor for the Harvard Law Review on his LinkedIn. Tettey-Tamaklo—the other student involved—was removed from his role as a freshman proctor in November, but otherwise, the school did "nothing to sanction" him, the complaint said.

Bharmal did not respond to a request for comment.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the D.C. public defender's office shared a post about Bharmal on LinkedIn, detailing his experience as a law clerk and thanking him for his "commitment to our clients." Bharmal says in the post that, after graduating Harvard, he would like to support "immigrants, asylum-seekers, and other newly arriving neighbors." The post also revealed a "fun fact" about Bharmal: "He is currently training to be a bollywood spin instructor...class sign-ups incoming."

The office did not respond to a request for comment on whether it was aware of Bharmal's ongoing legal proceedings.

Thinking about Gotham Public Schools again.

You have to wonder if just Gotham generally being Gotham impacts what students learn in school.

Are students taught from a young age how to solve riddles in english class? We always had like warm ups we had to do in english class like a prompt to write about or something. Do Gotham kids have to solve riddles every day to practice?

What about Chemistry class? Do they learn the chemical composition of fear toxin/joker venom/bane venom/etc and how to neutralize or make an antidote? Do they learn how to test water and chemically and biologically filter it to make it drinkable in a pinch? Do they learn how to filter air and make an on the fly gas mask?

Are they taught self defense in PE class? Do they start in kindergarten and is it their longest unit?

Do they learn how to defuse a bomb in engineering class?

Is there a whole unit in biology about Ivy's plants and pollens?

Is half their health class just dedicated to basic first aid? Do they learn more complicated stuff like how to give stitches or fix a bullet wound?

AU where Oberon and mab are the directors of two rivaling high end boarding schools.

Ash is and his brothers were under the beat students of Tir na Nog school and rarely leave the school ground outside of class related excursions. Sage and Rowan have already graduated and came back as teachers/professors.

On the other side we have Arcadia. Oberon and his co-director Titania are always fighting.

Oberon found puck while puck (as a homeless child) was trying to break into the kitchen of the school and decided to keep him around (giving him odd jobs). He even enrolled him into a public school and when he got old enough and Oberon remembered his affair child Meghan he made sure that puck would end up in the same school and class to keep an eye on her.

As puck is lifting in to boarding school he uses to sneak off to cause trouble and somehow ended up at the other boarding school (the schools have regular meetings to discuss whatever. It's our Elysium equivalent). He meets ash. And starts dragging ash out side of school grounds.

While they both are like pre teens they get joined by Ariella. But someday puck caused so much chaos that Ariellas parents decide to get her out of that school and to a completely different city. Ash gets grounded too. He doesn't want to leave puck in this scenario but doesn't have any other options.

So puck meets Meghan alone in their teen years. At this point in time puck is in every way but formally adopted by oberon.

At some point (cus Oberon never really said why puck should watch out for this girl) he brings her home. Cue titania freaking out. And pucks only idea of a safe space is Ash's bedroom in a school that won't have Oberon or Titania on their grounds outside of their twice a year meetings.
