I'm gonna be a real nerd for a moment, because there's one issue with anarchism I've always had, and I've never been able to figure out the answer for it so hopefully you'll be able to (or can at least direct me to some readings that can help me understand).

Let's say that in an anarchist society, someone starts being a significantly harmful asshole - maybe they work on a local farm or even run it and are distributing all the good food to their friends, while leaving everyone else with half-spoiled stuff or nothing at all, and there's not enough easily accessible arable land or enough seeds to start another farm. If asking them nicely to stop/applying social pressure doesn't work, there has to be some means to make them stop doing that so nobody goes hungry. But if individuals start using force against them to take the food, then that becomes acceptable and people can just take shit regardless of distribution and there's nothing to ensure that someone on the fringes of society won't go hungry. So we need some kind of organized system to enforce the sharing, with the power to compel Farmer Asshole to listen. But then we also need a way to make sure that the system doesn't get unfairly turned against people who aren't doing anything wrong, and we also need a way to remove Farmer Asshole from society if normal pressures won't compel them to participate, and we need a way to warn other communities so he doesn't just start doing the same shit there, and we need an organized way to reintroduce him to society or it's a death sentence (bad), and so on. This problem generalizes pretty widely - what happens if someone decides to withhold insulin from a diabetic for some petty reason, or goes around wrecking people's gardens because they're the same kind of asshole who drives over mailboxes, or stalks someone else? There has to be a way to compel them to stop doing that, one that doesn't fall into a mob lynching the first time a suitably charismatic asshole turns up.

I think if you have a system like that, which is capable of compelling obedience from others with a legal monopoly on authorized force, then that's just a government with extra steps. I also think that's the bare-minimum way to prevent both unchecked assholes and mob violence. Maybe I'm just pessimistic about human nature, but I can't imagine a world where everyone stops being an asshole forever.

i enjoy them a lot on the basis that i like to see kurt getting wrangled around a bit! plus that i have a soft spot for grant gustin lol.

the main selling point to me has been that everytime blaine is with someone, kurt's first thought is that it's sebastian. i think that kind of insecurity has a very interesting premise and i looove to see it get explored, though i'll admit i'm not the biggest fan of woobifying sebastian's actions before 'on my way'. i think he is an asshole in s3 and should be acknowledged as such for maximum entertainment. also he did give steroids to the warblers?! his mind works in fascinating ways.

their back and forth is top notch, and i like that they kind of see each other's most unflattering sides. not a very romantic premise, but it does make for great sexual tension (for those delusional enough like i am) and there is always a potential character development they can go through with each other! while the lion's share of the work would be on kurt imo, i could see sebastian being sort of an early jumpstarter that motivates kurt to get more confident with his sexuality (had they met in s1-2). but i believe in kurt's ability to domesticate him.

i'm not the biggest seblaine fan (no kurt - i can't get invested) and i'm not hugely into ot3s either, but i like a good love triangle. in my idealized version of kurtbastian, it would be a complicated amalgamation of blaine's insecurity about kurt leaving him reaching a high point and kurt feeling unloved and unsightly because of a lack of physical attention from blaine, while sebastian is wondering why he does not care that much about getting into blaine's pants as he does about bragging about it to kurt.

hugely self indulgent, but i wish sebastian wouldve been a senior too so he could be kurt's asshole trust fund baby friend who 'so totally hates bushwick' but always ends up crashing at the loft anyway. maybe in a more klaine-y set up, he could play devils advocate for blaine but ultimately have kurts best interest in mind while theyre broken up. sebastian, notorious monogamy hater and the person others cheat on their boyfriends with, giving relationship advice and tearing himself apart for going soft and wanting to be a good friend instead of just suggesting revenge sex and moving on from kurt's life after? I was curious: what are your expectations for a healthy writing community? I've seen that a lot of people want different things and conflict happen because nobody really talks about it. The most people are willing to say is the obvious don't be an asshole (although obviously that doesn't stop some), but I rarely see people say things like "I don't want to share my writing but I do want to share the efforts of it" or "I want to talk about every details of my stories and brainstorm with others" and things like that. When I think of a healthy writing community, I think about two 12-year-olds sharing their grand story ideas and their original characters that are master-level wizards at age 19 or famous detectives at 15 and the two 12-year-olds gush over each other's ideas and draw their characters and help each other come up with names and ideas and titles.

I think writing communities really thrive when people are encouraged to share their ideas and can get a positive response. There's times to critique works and times to just hype people up--and I think people really do not know the difference.

I've noticed a few, consistent issues:

Competition: I think some writers get competitive over how fast they write, how much, how often, etc. And I've been in some Discord servers when a person is suddenly getting praise or recognition, and you can tell there's tension. Suddenly people stop talking and log off. There's a lot of battle of the egos.

Different skill levels in one space: this is a big issue, though it's not anyone's fault. I've noticed that some writers in some servers are well-experienced with great writing and then other writers are beginners. It's not a big deal, really, but it does hamper feedback. Beginner writers get discouraged and overwhelmed when well-experienced writers offer more detailed critiques. And likewise, experienced writers probably aren't getting super in-depth critiques they need. Not to say people are unsupportive, but it's just not the most productive set up!

Selfishness: I'm not sure if that's the best way to phrase it, but I've noticed that often people will share their writing in servers but not interact with other's writings.

These are pretty limited to Discord which imo isn't a productive space for large writing groups anyway. But unfortunately when a lot of people move to Discord, it's hard to find a sense of community on tumblr or other sites.

But I can't just bitch and not offer suggestions so:

Keep online communities alive. We can't limit ourselves to Discord servers. Post your writing. Engage with other blogs. Reblog. Reply. Send in asks. If you're reading something someone wrote, let them know. Say something in the tags or send in an ask.

Be a hype man: We should encourage each other to continue writing--not everyone is looking for critiques all the time

Know your place: I've seen way too many people shit on ideas for events or special blogs. If you see something that you don't like, just leave it be. If you're not interested in something, it's not for you. Let the micro-communities do their thing and find their people. You do not need to be involved in every facet of the general writing community.

Post. Your. Writing. Or post stuff about your writing. It's hard to find other writers when they don't share! I can't hype up your story if I don't know about it!

I often see a lot of suggestions get vague. Like you said--"Don't be an asshole." Okay. Great. But what does that mean? And how does it get enforced in moderated communities like servers? What if the mods of the servers are assholes?

Or I see "support each other!" Okay, but we need an actual game plan for getting early-2010s level of community back. We need to bring back ask memes and character memes and ask culture. Because people back then weren't just twiddling their thumbs waiting for an interaction, there was effort put into all of it. People were designing games and events and taking time to engage with each other.

I don't think people understand that healthy communities need to be nurtured and inclusive. And this is definitely glamorizing the internet of 10-15 years ago. There's always been bullying and toxic people. But I think we could definitely build on what used to be and make something that's mature and welcoming to everyone.

I'm hoping with NaNo on their steady decline through the past couple of years really encourages people to rekindle other online communities. I think a lot of people have been nostalgic over the past few days, and a lot of people have taken the initiative to coordinate their own events. It's starting to bring back some of the unconditional support that used to exist.

so i have collected my thoughts after watching the le sserafim docu and i dont know if it is because i just got into kpop this year and honestly i went in blind or what?? but that was a wild ride lmao, and i have 2 major points to highlight:

1. i didnt expect it to feel so invasive(? like i believe there were many moments that imo, the crew didnt have a right to film and even less to show us (the public) such moments. no matter if we are fans or not, that kinda felt like too much.

e.g. sakura crying in the booth because she is not confident about singing; when sakura had the panic attack during the fan meeting; yunjin recording herself while reading those hate comments and crying; them having that talk during PN promotions in their hotel room; and probably others but u get my point.

now i dont know if this is like the "norm" in this industry, but it made me wonder how much of a saying the members had in approving what would be included in the docu, or if it was something along the lines of"this will be included, thanks for the videos/content".

all this goes tied to my second point...

2. is there any moment they can NOT film them/themselves or have to create content? for example, when zuha and yunjin went to that cafe, felt kinda unnecessary tbh. like i know they probs did it to show them getting along and how yunjin was close to/hepled zuha, but was that really necessary? imho, nope!

i knew that these groups were expected/overworked to always generate content (that is the reason why the fans become so obsessed and entitled) but man, to this extent? while I appreciate the honesty and vulnerability that artists show, i think we didnt have the right to all of that.

dont get me wrong, i think it was a well done documentary and in a way it was also a good move from source music to get some empathy for the girls, it is not their fault people are assholes and dont know how to show any respect; but it also felt invasive which is why it was so heart breaking to watch.

anyway... i really hope they get some more love and appreciation from the industry/fans, because the public (other than the fans) will not give any. and it is so sad cause now we know they truly are aware of all the comments about them. no matter how hard they work, unfortunately haters will always hate and be blind to their efforts.

ps. it felt kinda ironic that it was mentioned in the docu "you are expected to do this or that and maintain a pure image" and yet hybe controls half the industry and is a big reason why idols are expected to conform to all that lol...buddy, u are to fault for this. but that is a whole other post.

Being sad about Yaga's death. It felt like at that point, he was just so so done with everything. He was practically suicidal.

He lost Geto for good in JJK 0. Gojo and Shoko are irreparably broken and there is nothing he can do to help them in any way that truly matters (in his PoV)

Shibuya Incident happened -> He lost Gojo -> He lost Nanami -> Heavy civilian casualties -> Heavy sorcerer casualties

All of the people under his care at school (especially Panda) are under great threat

Idk. It felt like he gave up and used the elder's pettiness against him to just die already out of guilt or penance.

I know his death was framed as a sacrifice, but it felt a bit like "suicide by cop" to me too.

Yaga could have broken his own rule for this special circumstance - ask the Cursed Corpses to fight for him just this one time. However, he did not do it. His likely reason is because he wants to stick to his own principles until the end and to also protect his creations. But, I think maybe it's because Yaga desired death too. Takeru probably felt that so in their last meeting, he bid him goodbye appropriately imo.

Overall, Yaga's fate is just so sad. He deserves better.

BUT! I love how he cursed Gakuganji in the end by telling him how to make cursed corpses like Panda on his dying breath.

By sharing that information, Yaga forced Gakuganji into realizing how pointless their fatal fight had been. The latter would always be haunted by the fact that MAYBE if he had just waited a bit more, negotiated a bit more, or defied the asshole higherups more, Yaga would have shared the secret with him eventually. Yaga didn't have to die by his hands at all.

In a way, Yaga through his death and last words, passed on to Gakuganji all the helplessness and guilt he himself felt throughout his life as he watched the students he mentored in Tokyo fell apart.

'Yaga died free of guilt because his penance is now complete with his execution.'

'Meanwhile, his executioner Gakuganji became cursed with the life Yaga have lived. He is now full of regrets and what-ifs while seeking absolution for his guilt.'

It's probably why he admitted his part on Yaga's death to Gojo. He wanted to receive retribution. He also thinks death will be his penance. Unfortunately for him, Gojo doesn't give it. Yes! Hurt him with kindness. Don't give him what he wants!

And so, Gakuganji's cursed guilt-ridden life inherited from Yaga continues.

I work with dogs and they(the ones with which I work)'re all wonderful (yes, even the trouble ones at the shelter). While I love my darling, beloved, precious Sir Lewis vonFluffybum, whom I treasure and adore, he's got nothing on the actual literal (not really, not even close, not even a little bit) fruit of my womb, my childhood west highland terrier, Holly Jolly Christmas. My family also fostered guide puppies, so I have always been around lots of dogs; there's even a documentary about us in that field (there are a few different documentaries about my family. Idk why, we're not even that interesting imo). We had cats when I was growing up too. But there was drama when we got rid of my cuddly favorite but kept the asshole hissy jerk who peed everywhere and scratched/bit. Ofc not all cats are like that, but ... not all dogs are like their worst representatives. In either case, there are a variety of factors that contribute to acting out. They both provide benefits and do things the other can't do. Dogs have so many applications with all the various working breeds. Rick and Morty: The Ricks Must Be Crazy ("Battery World")

Since I've started the challenge some time into January, I wanted to start with something breezy. A quick read.

The Ricks Must Be Crazy (a title referencing the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy) was originally called "Battery World" and is 42 pages long. I picked this particular episode of RaM mostly just because I remembered it as one of the really good ones. And it's in the second season, which I think can be considered the only season loved by basically everyone who gave this show a shot.

Unfortunately, I didn't remember just how fucked up this episode actually was.

A brief sidenote about formatting: Mr. Guterman (and the show in general, if I'm not mistaken) does something I haven't really seen all that much when reading scripts - bold letters instead of capitalisation for emphasis. I'm used to "Summer SCREAMS" not "Summer screams" but that's probably just a personal preference.

So, let's start with the B storyline - "Keep Summer Safe" - where Rick's car has to protect Summer. I have to admit, I was kinda horrified by some of the stuff here. Because the whole storyline... Isn't really funny. It's extremely bleak, actually. Imagine this outside of the context of Rick and Morty. There aren't even that many jokes here, it tries to get by just on the absurd escalation of events here.

That's not say that it's bad. It's an engaging bit of high-concept sci-fi drama that fits well inside the episode. It just really isn't funny. Just brutal. At least to me, on the paper.

Now, let's move on to the A storyline - "Into the Microverse" - which is why this episode is really good.

I love this so much. It's not just an exploration of a cool sci-fi concept. It's also an exploration of Rick at his worst. He's a hypocrite. He's a narcissistic asshole. His car is powered by slavery.

For me, probably the most fucked up moment for Rick comes here:

This comes RIGHT AFTER an exchange where Rick and Zeep bond. They both realize how alike they are. They have a connection. They are VERY similar and both of them realize it now.

They could be soulmates... If one of them technically wasn't the other one's slave. So, Zeep betrays Rick at the first opportunity he gets. And how does Rick react, knowing that this guy likely thinks a lot like him? Like this. Rick presumes with absolute certainty that Zeep will destroy his live's work and commit a genocide just the get rid of Rick (i.e. kill god).

And when they get out? Rick is the one who actually does it. He destroys the miniverse. After all, that's why he came to the microverse in the first place. To "fix the battery".

You're right Zeep, he is a monster. I mean, you're probably too... But still. Rick is an absolute monster. And for all of this episode's focus on Rick's hypocrisy, this "casual genocide" isn't brought up very often.

Not a complaint, necessarily. This episode already juggles a lot, it doesn't really have time to dwell on this. Still, I forgot about that and now it's very difficult to think about anything else. Because for Rick, this is the moment of triumph. Not yet, technically, but he fixes his car here.

And it all leads to this...

But again, it's not JUST that the episode completely reveals Rick as the awful person he is. It's that it works in tandem with the miniverse/microverse idea which makes it such a good episode. Because the miniverse/microverse stuff is genuinely clever AND genuinely funny.

"small thing HUGE" and "BIG THING small" is a great trope in sci-fi comedy (see Men in Black), but The Ricks Must Be Crazy (or "Battery World") pulls off a nice twist on that with the matryoshka universes. That just works extremely well, imo.

So yeah, while I really didn't enjoy reading the stuff with Summer here (again, it's not bad, just... really bleak), this is an extremely good script and still one of the best things this show has ever done. (Admittedly, I'm not caught up - as of writing this, I still haven't seen seasons 6 and 7.)

My favourite RaM episode is still Never Ricking Morty, though.

Also, I should probably mention that this is an American TV show and therefore has been written by a writer's room. Dan Gutterman is responsible for a chunk of the outlining and definitely at least some of the drafts but the story itself has been created by a group of people (lead by Dan Harmon) and the script has likely been revised to death (probably by Dan Harmon).

Aaaand... that's the end of my first proper Script Reading Challenge post. Yey! Don't worry, not all of them will be this long. I just wanted to talk about this specific script in a bit more detail.

My personal takeaway as a writer from this script is this: "We are not so different, you and I" is basically a meme. However, there's power in not just talking about it but showing it. Doing it for real. A character #2 existing to reveal who character #1 REALLY is. Through their similarity. That's good stuff.

The moment the revelation occurs, many people, as OP said, immediately react with “oh, but they were never any good at xyz anyway,” but unfortunately I find that’s often extended to “and *I* never liked their work anyway because I could *just tell* they were a bad person and I was so good and moral I knew not to engage with it.” And yeah, I’m sure this is true for a very small percentage of people - I’m positive that whenever a famous creative is revealed as an asshole, there are indeed a small handful of people who always just Got The Ick from their works and are having their suspicions confirmed. But the percentage of people who CLAIM that they could “always tell this” always outweighs the number who probably actually could by orders of magnitude. This quickly extends to a moral superiority, ie, “well I could tell this creator was immoral. Couldn’t you?,” which extends again into “I am a better person than you because you couldn’t detect the evil and I could.” I think this is part of what drives the obsession with digging up every single detail about creators and attempting to find the Least Problematic person & art to engage with - because if you try to make absolutely sure now that you’re not engaging with an as-yet undiscovered Bad Person, you’re trying to ensure that on the future, no one can accuse you of Not Sensing The Evil. The problem with “bad people can’t make good art because they always infuse it with their bad beliefs, and if you like it and don’t pick up on those you’re a bad person” as a moral stance is that bad people have, over history, demonstrably made a lot of good art, that a lot of people like, and as soon as you make the claim that anyone who likes it must also be a bad person who either can’t sense, or secretly agrees with, whatever Bad Belief is being covertly espoused, you push people not only to argue that the bad person’s art was never any good, but that they never liked it anyway and could just always tell that something was wrong, when that’s just almost always not true.

It’s okay if you like art made by bad people. If someone turns out to be an asshole, it doesn’t suddenly make you a bad person for not being able to tell. Truly bad and malicious people are often extremely good at hiding their behavior from others and putting on a charming and innocent front, and celebrities and creators are no different. Expecting fans and consumers to be able to Detect Evil in the souls of creators through their art and then passing moral judgment on them when they can’t is just another form of victim blaming - no different than grabbing someone whose spouse has turned out to be a criminal without their knowledge and interrogating them on how they could have been so stupid as to not notice. Bad people fool people. The people they fool are also their victims. Do not blame and vilify those people for not being able to see through it. None of us are perfect. One day, you too will be fooled.

I think we need to get more comfortable with the idea that sometimes shitty, racist, homophobic, bigoted people are still incredibly talented.

I feel like every time I see a post addressing someone’s shitty behavior the post also takes the time to mention that they’re not even good at [x] anyway. And that’s just not always true? Equating being good at a skill as being morally good is just not necessary. Someone can be a fantastic writer, can have a beautiful singing voice, can create breathtaking artwork, and still be a horrible person.

I know part of this is probably just the instinct to dislike everything about a person when you dislike them, but I also think this mindset leads to people defending creatives way past where they should, because if bad people create bad art, then if this person creates art that I like and resonates with me, then they can’t be a bad person!

And you know. That’s just not true. Those two things are simply completely unconnected and I think it’d be healthier if we all started disconnecting them in our heads.

Okay so I was re reading the entirety of the usurper gojo series, and I was wondering, what exactly do the members of the court think of his shenanigans towards Reader?

I mean courts r made up of a shitton of people who all have different connections and ambitions and loyalties so. A VERY mixed bag—just like how the sorcerer’s society views gojo in-canon!

The general things to keep in mind are… there’s a big difference of opinion between higher and lower ranking courtiers wrt gojo. The lower ranks don’t mind him; he is, after all, the rightful king and really isn’t that bad all things considered. As u get further up into the more powerful nobles (most notably the Zenins, the Kamos, and Gojo’s own family) they tend to harbor a lot of hatred, and the majority of them backed his uncle who he ousted. They’re even less enthralled by the reader; her family isn’t well-known and she’s wicked smart and ambitious, both of which being things that elitist assholes arent big fans off pfft. When she was just attending the queen she wasn’t rising above her station but NOW she is the queen and a lot of the court isn’t okay with that. Marriage in a setting like this isn’t rlly considered to be for love; Gojo marrying the reader is a political decision even if he pretends like it isn’t (and honestly doesn’t want it to be!!! Unfortunately he is a king and every move he makes is political) and what he’s saying is “none of you upper families is good enough for me, sorry. I’m picking this nobody instead” so. Yeah. And that resentment definitely falls on the reader’s head more than Gojo’s, because of course it does. But again the less powerful gentry don’t mind her! It’s unorthodox but

There’s two other sections of the court who, imo, warrant mentioning: the camarilla (essentially just the besties. I’s a group of the royal couple’s favored courtiers; normally they’d have separate ones but gojo just doesn’t work like that. Also he doesn’t have many friends) and Gojo’s advisors (who are intended to be the in-canon elders that he’s constantly butting heads with, for the record)

The camarilla (comprised of Nanami, Shoko who hasn’t been mentioned but is there I promise, the reader’s ladies-in-waiting and close companions) definitely like. Kinda have sympathy for the reader having to deal with it all but ultimately think it’s pretty sweet overall??? Literally just dropping how Nanami and Shoko feel abt Gojo in-canon onto him in the au tbh, and the extension of that onto his relationship yk. The reader’s genuinely in love w him and that’s very obvious, and ultimately does know how to deal with All His Shit (+ Baggage) so yeah. Like they’re power couple goals and the camarilla know that best ♥️

Gojo’s advisors, meanwhile, fucking hate him KENDKSND and it’s VERY much mutual pfft there’s so much backstory here. They’re holdovers from not just his uncle’s time as king but also his father’s, which means they’re the ones who encouraged his father to strongarm the reader’s parents into sending her off wayyyy back when they were teens, and as if that weren’t enough for him to hold a grudge for the rest of his life they were also involved in the plot against his life. Why does he keep them alive, you ask? Well he executed a few that were stupid enough to leave evidence, but for most it wasn’t provable, so chopping off their heads would be seen as Not Great esp bc they’re literally. Advisors. And you know what they say, keep ur friends close and ur enemies closer, so he just. Actively dwindles their power more and more until they give up the ghost (bc they are quite old) or get frustrated enough to retire JDNFKSNF (this entire plan is concocted by the reader. Gojo would have executed them without a second thought, frankly, but she’s too smart to let him)

Anyway. I know that was more about the politics than their relationship, but honestly the politics greatly impact people’s reactions. No matter what it’s definitely scandalous—gojo is entirely fucking shameless and all the premarital handholding rlly is shocking for the whole court. But there’s an element of them all coming to expect that from him too; he’s a conquerer, not just the rightful heir, and he doesn’t do things the traditional way. So yeah people whisper and oftentimes it’s snide but they can’t rlly do much about it JNDKXNDD

I Have Some Feelings

To start let me just emphasize how much I love and adore this show and always will. This was my covid show. Both of my kids loved “Lucifer” and always said I should watch so at the start of covid I binged it and when I say binged, I mean all 4 seasons in a few days and have rewatched so many times I’ve lost count. I think it is timeless, engrossing, original and all around amazing. The writing and the cast were all excellent. The writing was smart and consistently strong and that is so rare.  Funny, sad, poignant, it hit all the notes with very few plot holes or missteps. There is not one episode in the entire series that was not engaging. Even if I didn’t like an episode, it was still well done. What a rarity.

The cast is scary good. Completely underrated. Just all phenomenally talented.  I don’t remember the last time a cast was this strong.  From the core group to both reoccurring and guest stars, the cast was just fantastic.  

Tom Ellis, no words.  The man deserves to choose whatever he wants to do acting wise. He should have people breaking down his door. He can truly do it all and do it all well. He took a character that if portrayed by a lesser actor could have come off as a complete asshole and made him one of the most sympathetic and loveable characters in recent history. Ellis made a crime solving devil, a promiscuous man-child that occasionally breaks into song and the evidence room into a beloved character that has become an icon.  

Lauren German, WOW.  She is just so damn good. She can break your heart one second and have you laughing the next. She makes Chloe real, and people don’t realize how hard that is. Chloe is smart, kind, tough and gorgeous but she’s also an insecure dork.  She’s us and German just brings it.  

DB Woodside I’ve loved since “Buffy”.  He is a phenomenal actor and who knew he could bring the laughs so well? His expressions were classic. Clueless angel indeed. Amenadiel could have been very one-dimensional but because of Woodside’s talent he became fully fleshed out and full bodied.  

I have no doubt Lesley-Ann Brandt has a huge career in front of her.  She took a character that very well could have been hated, a demon and made her into one of the most human characters on the show. Kudos to her for taking a tough role and making it her own.  

Kevin Alejandro is another actor I’ve loved for a long time.  He also took a character who if we’re going to be honest here did so many unlikeable things that he should have been truly despised but because of Kevin’s portrayal he was beloved. Great actor and a terrific director.

Rachael Harris IMO is the downlow MVP.  She was literally the rock and again, with a lesser actress the role could have been a throwaway. The normal human, the sounding board but Harris imbued her with so much more.  Her spit takes, sarcasm and her obvious compassion was what made Dr. Linda an unforgettable character. Once again just perfect casting.  

Aimee Garcia was a great addition. She made Ella a fan fav and put so much heart, joy and sincerity into Ella never once did you doubt that she would prevail no matter what was thrown at her.  Garcia was just fantastic, and I want her skin care regime.  

Scarlett Estevez pulled off the one thing I thought almost impossible.  She took the role of a young child and made it so I didn’t want to cringe. She portrayed Trixie so beautifully from day one that she was a true pleasure to watch.  Even though Trixie was super precocious Estevez never made her obnoxious. I loved Trixie and I have never said that about any child character in an adult show.  She was wonderful and has an amazing career in front of her.

That said, I’ve got some feelings now that I’ve seen the finale and have had some time to digest it all.  I love that Chloe and Lucifer had eternity and I agree that they had to be separated for Chloe’s lifetime. Didn’t like it but it’s the logical path. She’s human, he’s not. The ageing thing alone necessitated them not being together long term on earth and that’s just to start the list. They had to had to be apart for the short term to get their eternity but the duality of Lucifer's ending and Amenadiel's didn't sit right. Amenadiel as God got to have it all. His calling, his family etc. while Lucifer had to give up everything.  I also don’t buy the “If he came up from hell, he could never leave them again” defense.  I call bullshit.  Amenadiel managed, plus, missing out on the day to day is a huge sacrifice and by Lucifer missing out on the day-to-day Rory could still have had the hatred she needed to drive the story.  Popping in for birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc., the big stuff does not a father make.  Not being there for skinned knees, first heartbreaks, and all the little things a daughter needs her dad for can build up tons of resentment.  Boom, absentee father, just like his dad was. That provides all the millennial angel angst you could ask for. I have a daughter; it doesn’t take much.

The Trixie issue was huge for me. Can Chloe see her in Heaven? Will she be able to travel to Heaven and visit Trixie, Penelope, Dan, her father?  Chloe hesitated leaving Heaven in 5x16 because she couldn’t bear saying good-bye to her dad again. It seems as if Chloe sacrificed everything for Rory including Trixie. I want to preface this by saying. I liked Rory and loved the actress. I didn’t however like how it was as if she were their only child.  When Lucifer spoke of family Trixie was not mentioned. Their family day, the same thing. She didn’t need to be there, I get that the explanation regarding Rory would have been way too much to get into but just a mention of her, how awesome it would have been to share this day with her would have worked. It seemed as if Lucifer went from, “I would do anything to protect that little Urchin” to “Trixie who”. Trixie was a character that we watched grow up and she meant something to us. I hate to say this, but the writers did Trixie and the viewers dirty in this regard.

This show was built around a few premises.  Free will, honesty, redemption, sacrifice and family, both blood and made. The ending completely negated almost all of these.  Chloe and their entire family were made into the one thing Lucifer abhorred the most which are liars. Their daughter was brought up surrounded by lies. What did they tell Trixie?  The poor kid just lost her dad, and she was pissed at Lucifer when he went back to hell the first time. Did she grow up hating him because as far as she knew Lucifer left her mom again without saying good-bye and this time it was even worse because Chloe was pregnant.  I get that the actress who plays Trixie had limited availability but seriously. A quick good-bye.

“Hey Urchin, you won’t understand why for a long time, but I have to leave. You know I never lie so I can’t explain why but know that I love you and your mom and one day I hope you can forgive me.”  

A 30 second scene would have worked.

As all the characters learned throughout the series, omission of the truth is just a form of lying and there are always repercussions i.e., Chloe and Father Kinley, Dan shooting Lucifer, Maze finding out about Lilith and even Ella not being told. As far as free will, both Chloe and Lucifer had their free will taken from them in the end. By Rory forcing them to abide by her wishes, their free will was forfeited. It was a huge manipulation on Rory’s part and considering how much Lucifer hated manipulations it just didn’t sit right.

Parents making huge sacrifices I get. Chloe and Lucifer sacrificed everything for their child. Unfortunately for me this sacrifice, the way it was written seemed contrived to pull out maximum and IMO unjustified angst. I love angst.  Hell, this is my favorite show.  I thrive on the angst. But as I wrote earlier, all the anger, angst and hatred towards Lucifer could have been achieved without having Lucifer completely out of the picture. I have two kids and my husband, and I have made huge life altering sacrifices for them as many parents do but being there for the day-to-day little things was what made the difference in their lives and cemented the close relationships we have with them.

“Yeah, dad you were great. Showing up for the fun stuff, always swooping in for the big finish to play the hero then ditching us when things got tough. When Grandma was dying where were you?  Nice that you showed up for the funeral but the six months leading up to it…we needed you and once again you weren’t there. When T got sick, when Jen broke my heart, blah, blah, blah…”

Even the whole Chloe dying scenario. They could have written it that rage Rory traveled minutes before Lucifer got there. Have him pop in right after Rory comes back. There were so many ways to achieve the end game they wanted other than the way they went. It seemed contrived and as if they took the easy way out to get where they needed to go. The Rory rage that was the catalyst for her traveling back in time and Lucifer finding his calling could still have been accomplished without the whole Lucifer disappearing storyline.

Now that I’ve finished my diatribe there’s a couple of additional things I would like to say.  Lucifer is and always will be one of my favorite shows of all time. There are not enough words to describe the comfort and enjoyment this show has brought me. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the producers, cast and crew. You truly created something special.

To the fandom. Please do not let a polarizing conclusion rip apart the fandom. The only other fandom I was a part of tore itself apart so badly that the FBI got involved.  Hence why I waited for 15 years to dip my toe in again. Everyone invested in this show has the right to their feelings.  Debate is fine, baiting and bullying are not. The Lucifer fandom like the show is very special. Without the fandom we wouldn’t have gotten any conclusion so don’t let opposing viewpoints tarnish what has been a magical journey.

So Pokemon, obvs, I love the whole world it’s built in, but the games imo are REALLY boring, I haven’t enjoyed one a lot since gale of darkness, the main ones just are a little too linear obvious plots, pretty standard setups for story and style. Speaking of style, the games lack personality, the models aren’t animated well, moves have no dynamic energy or visual difference at times, and the turn based battle style just feels kind of, I don’t know, old? Slow? Just doesn’t suit what I enjoy personally, gives me a FInal Fantasy vibe and I just cannot stand the speed at which things happen in those games, plus not into 3rd person ‘let’s build a team of people’ much, but that’s a problem for another time. With this all in mind, the game I wish would happen is like gen20 Pokemon, far future sadly, I doubt I’d see it in my lifetime but god I’d be happy if I did!

Ok so take the newest Zelda graphics, the visual treat that was BOTW, open world, puzzles, not JUST combat, you got side missions, hunt the chickens, find missing pets, parcels, items, whatever. Love it! The horse taming?! Amazing you funky little game. Now take the bad guys and beasts from that. And put Pokemon in instead. Give them the diversity, the life and believable natures that BOTW gave the animals, I followed a frog in BOTW for 15 minutes, and it was a great experience, it felt like it was believable. Above world spawning, ACTUAL difficult gameplay, rare spawn rates, make dragons hard to get again, cmon, it’s too easy now, make it so we need a certain set of Pokemon for certain tasks. Water types big enough to carry you will be able to get you to new areas, rock types that can help you climb mountains faster, or break through blocking boulders. Actual towns with more than 4 houses in them, shops, barns, farms, homes. Like little link with the heat, maybe ice types would struggle in volcano areas, or bug Pokemon not be so comfortable in gale force winds. Give the weather more of an effect on your partners. Mounts, don’t even get me started that Pokemon Let’s go had you able to ride any of the larger species, but swsh did not???? Bitch please, give me my rideable Pokemon. The wild area too was far too closed, limited, online was laggy and a mess, camping is limited, let me do more with my team. Pokemon for me is all about the actual creatures, how they live with humans, and the many wonderful things they’re capable of. Yes of course it’s cool they can fight, but like what else you know?

I’d love a game that lets me buy a plot of land, maybe plant things, custom build things. I’m a sucker for the fallout4 settlement builds when they’re modded to hell and back, they’re fun! It can be a really calm and creative process. If I could do that and skip the main campaign and all the battles for a bit? Amazing, it sound perfect for me. I am that distracted hoe collecting flowers while the kingdom burns in the background. Side quests are everything to me. Let me give homeless people enough money to get them in a home? Let me adopt Pokemon that are stray around the town? Plz oh plz bring me a Pokemon game that allows me to work WITH my team to do more than KO other species. I want to save and buy a plow for my buddy gogoat, and grow amazing foods to sell to get currency to spend in decorations, to spoil my team. Give me actual game consequence, if I ignore that sick and injured Pokemon I find in the wild, later maybe it’s family don’t want to help me out with a different problem, too stricken from grief. I am all about the average bits, the old women who need help, the lost pets board in town, the general day to day stuff. Let me get cosmetic items for the Pokemon I keep, cute outfits, special gemstone items, let me actually live with them, or even feel remotely like they’re realistic.

Ok so in game, if it’s looking like BOTW it’s pretty beautiful but also stylised, I’d have it so you can send out a maximum of 3 Pokemon from your 6, using bumpers and such to throw them out. If you hit the trigger you switch from controlling the human trainer, to the Pokemon you’ve targeted with a standard lock on targeting system. You then can be the leader, but be the Pokemon. You could technically defeat the game without a human if you wanted, which incorporates the mystery dungeon games I think, and caters to that crowd. I’d love to see the use of attacks out of battle, things like using water gun to grow plants, using ember to start a campfire faster and stave off the cold. There’s no consequence to Pokemon anymore, and I think that’s where it’s lost me. I have to admit I miss the days of a poisoned pokemon fainting if you don’t heal them soon enough, I miss gym battles that were actually tough, damn, try picking charmander in red and beating brock without grinding in viridian forest first, it’s not easy. And I loved that. Yes it’s a child’s game, it will never be difficult again, but god it’d be nice to have a bit of a challenge, or maybe a difficulty setting, so some could play it with hostility turned off, great for kids, or you can be n adult like I know so many Pokemon fans are, and play it on expert mode and ACTUALLY have to work hard to beat the game. Alternate skill trees anyone? Train gun a fire type to ACUTALLy combat water moves?? Please! Cmon! It frustrated me that every challenger has pretty much a systematic set of moves to use to win. Grass opponent? Fire attack spam until you win. It’s dull, so at least with very difficult tricks to either find or learn in game would make it more achievable if you can send that fire type in and I don’t know, train them so much the heat evaporates the water mid-battle and you suddenly have a shot at winning. Pokemon has taught me that if you work hard enough you can achieve something, but the games just have such strict ways to win. Feels wrong.

In terms of battling, let us BE the Pokemon, let us learn to dodge, train our speed, train our defence, make a team of truly tough Pokemon instead of just, average? Some species have a cap on their skills, a squirtle has lower stat points than a Charizard, but you can’t ever change that? Let me choose the Pokemon I believe in, and let me work with them until they’re just as good, if not better than the game tanks. This would also make online battles more interesting. Everyone picks the top trio. Fairy, dragon, legendaries. And yknow what? It’s boring. That one IRL fight with the monster Pacharisu that won in the world tournament with follow me and the situs Berry? Unbelievable, I love that little rat so much because of this, so let us all have a chance to build a team that’s strategically viable, strong, and potentially a winner formula, even if they aren’t fully evolved, or the biggest Pokemon in the world. Yeah maybe you have to grind way harder with your unevolved Pokemon, but you get to the end game and win, because you put love and time into species that you enjoy, not just good fighters.

Unfortunately I am beholdent to Todd-idiot-Howard, and I love the Eldrescrolls and fallout games (before they got dumb, not that I don’t play the new ones. 76 I’m looking at you, you big asshole game.) honestly I hate online games, so none of that junk, just a good old fashioned open world sandbox game is plenty. Games for me are an escape from others, not an invitation to socialise. To each their own of course, and I do play online games sometimes, just pretty short lived ones, over watch and rdr2 for example. Would they be sometimes better on private servers? Yes of course, fallout76? Want to play with others? No. I do not. Please leave me alone. And if you buy a private server you’re feeding the monster that is Todd Howard, the man the myth the asshole, then we’ll get more bad games like 76. I just so desperately want the Pokemon company to see what a beautiful potential game they’ve got on their hands, that could be suitable for far greater audiences, but instead they’ve focused on the kids. It’s fine, it’s functional, but it’s lost to the fans from day 1, that are all 20+ years old now and want something meatier to play, something far more broad and inclusive. I also hate that there’s no wheelchair option in any Pokemon game. Like cmon, it’s not hard to include that.

In short, BOTW + Pokemon, with a sprinkle of open world sandbox to it, less fighting, more fun. Or, at least both options. Sure, go fight everything, great, but I want to farm carrots over here with 6sunflora, plz let me have some peace.

THE PARALLEL BETWEEN JIN LING BEING A LIFELINE FOR JIANG CHENG AND A-YUAN FOR LAN WANGJI AFTER THE BATTLE AT THE NIGHTLESS CITY

and like . the fact! that lwj and jc dislike each other!!. jc projects blame onto him for wwx both “leaving” him and indirectly causing their families deaths and when hes so consumed by it he makes wwx an enemy, lwj is there now? trying to protect him?? and lwj, who can never understand the pain that wwx , indirectly or not put jc through, but who was right there when jc tried to kill him and will never allow him to hurt wwx again. and how they like. in a way project blame of their tragedies onto each other while dealing with some type of survivor guilt and in their own way still loving wwx through it all???  amd in way its kind of fundamentally selfish but also tragically understandable? and like when u put it against the fact that after he disappears during the sunshot campaign they were looking for him together and fought together??

JUST. THE CHARACTERS. AND THE RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS. MAN. UGH. GOD. 

and like i think thats what makes it so good? its such a sad and painful and violent story, edgy even, but its compelling bc at the center of it there are all of these relationships and different types of love and hope and. :( i love it

Deku from Deku Explains is a hopeless chatterbox who is known for uploading 20-30 minutes video that talked about his favorite shows and comics and have one of the most devoted following on Youtube. He also can't seem to shut up about his boyfriend Kacchan, who regularly make his presence on the channel as a disembodied voice.

They should theoretically have nothing in common except a shared platform to host their content and an army of fans with an endless curiosity and devotion to their Youtubers. Vidcon is where we lay our scene and the internet is about to get a rude wake up call.

Okay kewltie is SO GOOD and very creative! The formatting is phenomenal, it’s like you’re actually experiencing a social media melt down in real time lol

Summary: Deku and Katsuki’s first kiss goes rather differently than planned.

And Katsuki’s quickly learning that relationships can be unpredictable - especially when taking into account the variable that is Midoriya Izuku.

This really is just a careful handling of a teenage romance where perhaps one of them may have shit they’re still working through. It’s really sweet, and a careful study at boundaries and the building of a relationship. I actually stumbled across this while looking for another with the same name and ended up pleasantly surprised. Kacchan can has a little validation, as a treat.

He wonders if it is possible for colors to bloom for someone who will never love you back.

Ah...soulmates :) So interesting how bakudeku fits into soulmate aus like this one when they’ve known each other as kids! And when they’ve had this complex push and pull thing going on all their lives! The writing is beautiful, and so is the story!

Three-year-old Katsuki and Izuku misunderstand what the word "partner" means and discover the charm and the rumor behind it is not only true, but more than expected.

Gets a little heavy, depression, bullying, suicidal thoughts, etc. But it must get worse before it gets better, that kind of thing. I also just adore the second part (called Bond) - maybe because it’s much fluffier, what about it?

Ah, I really want to explain this one a little bit? I’d never been into fanfiction ever, only really getting into it with these boys. This was the second one I read, I remember, and it caught me off guard, and it intrigued me. It really surprised me as to what fanfiction could be. Ngl I had biased perceptions of fanfics - I used to be one of those people who thought fanfiction could never be good writing - and this one slapped me in the face with it’s subtle beauty and creative story and heart melting capabilities, and very, very real relationship and growth. Anyways it’s so cute how happy Deku is to teach Kacchan sign language TT_TT Make sure to read the tags!

The Keeper and the Sun God’s Heir - SurelyHeavenWaits (12746 words)

Summary:  The Titans' have stolen something important from Izuku, heir of the Sun God, and he wants it back.

This one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one this one- Oh my god this one. Okay so what, I was a Percy Jackson kid, what about it? I love the mythical aus, particularly the god ones. But beyond that, the writing is so beautiful, just like the world, and the imagery. The bakudeku...absolutely stunning. The story itself? Incredible. Cannot recommend more. *There is explicit content in this, though I will say, it’s all in the last chapter, and all of the story is in the first two chapters. There’s also a second part as it’s a series and it’s short but it’s cute and sweet TT_TT

While You Were Sleeping - Belkacaramelka (71197 words)

Summary: The one where quirkless fanboy Midoriya Izuku rescues Pro Hero Todoroki Shouto, gets mistaken as his fiancé while he is in a coma, and gets caught up in the most unlikely fake engagement... until his childhood enemy and Todoroki's classmate Bakugou Katsuki tries to catch him out, and they both end up discovering a lot more about each other than they'd expected.

Quirkless AU based on the film; endgame BakuDeku. -- Katsuki didn’t know when the change had happened: how he had gone from asking why Todoroki chose Deku of all people, to wondering why it was Todoroki that Deku chose. Troublesome Deku, who cooed like an idiot at cats, tripped at a random catcall and sang badly. Who, despite everything, proved that it wasn’t the quirk that defined a person. Deku, who was too much, not his, and undeniably off limits to begin with.

*This one has mature content. If you can, please, for the love of god, read this fic. It’s like, tied with my favorite bkdk fic perhaps ever. It’s based on the movie of the same title, a nineties romcom with Sandra Bullock, but Belkacaramelka has so effortlessly made it into it’s own story, fit it so perfectly inside of the bnha world. I definitely stayed up until 6:30am reading this one. It’s got such good badass Midoriya, who is also sweet, and really really good reconciliation between bakudeku.

Three. The gods have been fighting Death for eons, and now he's coming for recompense with everything he’s got.

This is majjale, so of course, the writing is more than beautiful; it’s absolutely breathtaking. This may be my favorite fic ever - unfortunately I don’t think it will ever be finished either TT_TT There’s the gods/fantasy au, which you know by now I love. But the characterization of our two boys is absolutely perfect, and I mean that as literally as possible. And the story being crafted between the two, the memory loss, the obvious history muddled by it all, it was so dense, and the PINING, so incredibly written, flowing so naturally. It wasn’t even close to being done, but it was wonderful, still is wonderful.

Summary:  Bakugou is certain his shitty boyfriend is instigating kisses. Maybe it doesn't help that he keeps giving them away like it's a damn going out of business sale, but the stupid nerd is too fucking cute. Either way, like everything else, this is a competition, and he's going to win it.

Bakugou Katsuki, you smooth motherfucker (10118 words)

Summary: Everyone around him knows that Bakugou Katsuki has a very special way with words. To the untrained ear he is loud and crass; to those that speak Kacchan, he is caring and inspiring. Yet there are rare moments, moments so fleeting you blink and you miss them, where Bakugou’s words pierce straight through Midoriya’s chest, and surprise everyone around him.

Goddammit, if only he would say them to Midoriya’s face.

Or, the five times Bakugou said something nice about Midoriya, and the one time he said something kind to him (but that was too long of a title).

I think most would consider this my best published fic; it’s one of those snapshot fics, “the five times where x did this, and the one time where they didn’t.” The recurring comment I get on this one is both of them being super in character, so I think that’s it’s defining characteristic! Bakugou and Midoriya have never known a life without the other, and in a perfect world, they never will.

Summary: Bakugou honestly never thought he’d see Deku ever again. And now that they were together in this tiny compartment, alone for the next two and a half minutes, he had no clue what to say. He’d just apologized, right? So perhaps he could leave it at that and carry on with the original plan to never see the green-haired man that reminded him of dense forests, late night adventures, and tear-stained faces, ever again.

Ha! Who is he kidding? These bitches are soulmates.

I’ve gotten some critiques on this one, so sorry in advance if it’s not to your liking! Basically, what if Midoriya never got his quirk? Obviously, life would find a way to put them together because, as previously stated, these bitches are soulmates.

Plenty of Time (16654 words)

Summary: Bakugou found what little sleep he got restless and filled with nightmares that he forgot the second he opened his eyes. Tonight was the first time in a long time where he just had a normal dream - and it happened to be about Deku.

How fucking typical.

In other words, two dorks realize they have feelings for each other but don't know what to do about said feelings.

Ah, my first fic. Very simple, boys being boys, kinda like a slow burn? Idk how to explain this one, just boys figuring out their feelings and trying to figure out what to do about them. Been told these two are a little stupid but I think that’s valid.

Summary: We have now entered the slipstream of time, into an alternate dimension where it neither is, nor isn’t, the 80’s. Two teenagers, burdened with the weight of adolescence in the modern world, find themselves struggling side by side, in part because of each other.

Bakugou, the most popular boy in school, has everything he could possibly want; status, power, and an unbreakable will. Having been dragged along behind him all the way to the top, Midoriya can’t help but wonder how (and why) he ended up standing beside his childhood friend-turned bully-turned friend again, weighed down by their complicated past and present. As the tension between them grows every day, and the arrival of a new, pretty face causes it to peak, it won’t be long before something - or someone - snaps.

I am...very bad at titles, and summaries apparently. This was my Heathers au, but it very quickly diverges from the original (I don’t do sad endings....) *This one has mature content, including implied sexual activity, drug use, and underage drinking, along with other heavy topics; please read the tags! Though tbh Midoriya is 17 for a couple weeks before it hits his birthday halfway through, so keep that in mind I guess? I kind of went heavy with this one, but I think the pay off was immense. This is the one with the most amount of comments stating it’s their favorite bkdk fic ever (and I cry). It’s a rough start, with a rough journey, but so is bakudeku! There’s a lot of petty drama, and then all of a sudden it’s Not That Petty and very much Far Too Real. Many have cried reading the ending, I cried writing it. My sister says it’s her favorite of mine. Now, I did kind of push this out without polishing it so much because I was losing my willpower, so if it feels lacking, that’s one hundred percent my fault.

Idk if you've seen the big thing happening on ao3 with STWW fic abusing the tag system, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on how ao3 moderators can or should step in. I worry this will lead to a push for more censorship and, technically speaking, there is already a way I found to exclude authors using the additional tags feature I've found on Google that works. So is a more hands on approach needed?

I actually don’t know that much about it - I just briefly looked it up. It sounds like one asshole thinks they’re funny and is digging their heels in when met with a polite argument, which is unfortunately a very common thing. I’ve met a lot of these bozos IRL and online. Some people will always think they have the right to be a dick, and it’s usually these dicks who ruin good and fun things for the rest of us.

I’m sure the AO3 mods are having a lot of meetings about it, and I think one of two ways could work:

1. In the future they’ll impose a limit of how many tags a work can have. Let’s be honest; the more tags a work has, the more annoying we all unanimously think it is. So if AO3 imposes a tag limit of say, 300 tags per work? They’re not going to get too many complaints about it.

2. AO3 imposes some kind of “read more” system where-in users automatically see the first like, 50 or so tags but can choose to click on a “read more” to view the story’s full tags (similar to tumblr’s read more system). While this sounds like the optimal solution to me, I don’t know anything about how costly and/or difficult that would be to implement across a variety of platforms.

So that’s why I think it’s probably going to be number one. It’s not really censorship: you can fit a lot of tags into a limit of 300 or whatever limit AO3 may choose, and AO3 is not restricting what you can use for tags or anything like that. A cap is not censorship, nor do I think that it would give the self-righteous purity fandom idiots much of a leg to stand on.

But it prevents people from taking advantage of a system and bothering 90% of the readership base, which is what it sounds like is happening. And AO3 can’t really ban this dumbass, because VPNs are a thing and said dumbass can just go create a new account. So IMO, the optimal solution is to implement a tag limit that ONLY affects those who are blatantly taking advantage of the system and being a pain in the ass to everyone else.
