Toxic romanticization of studying
In a word of introduction, my profile partly shows that studying and exploring is wonderful. But as a person involved in science*, I would like to show healthy and true patterns of this beautiful adventure in acquiring knowledge.
The inspiration for writing this post this time was not the phenomenon from Tumblr (although you can also observe it here), but from Pinterest. There you can come across cycles composed of quotes and photos whose aim is to motivate young girls to learn, succeed and get good grades. These images often also show examples of characters from movies, TV series or real life that you can aspire to be like. Overall, I have to agree that it really works! But I would like to draw attention to certain elements that need to be verified.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. You shouldn't get up at 5am
First of all, the correct amount of sleep is one of the most important factors affecting the proper and effective functioning of our brain. During sleep, nerve cells regenerate, organize information acquired during the day and consolidate memory traces, which is directly related to learning. Lack of sleep increases impulsivity, deepens negative thinking and slows down the body's reaction time!
2. You can be a genius without good grades
Of course, good grades are a pleasant confirmation of our knowledge and praise for hard work. However, sometimes it is worth considering whether the structure of exams themselves, especially those with closed questions, affects the results. We often study for one specific exam, the knowledge of which may be very… limited and sometimes not useful, so it is worth prioritizing the topics that we study hard.
3. It's not cool to think you're better than others
We are different and have different priorities in life. It is also worth considering how many people escape from the rat race and start a slow, stress-free life. So we have to agree that judging people based on grades or responses under stress (sic!) is not cool.
The good thing about romanticizing studying
As I have already said, these types of collages are really motivating. So let's talk about what's great about them and what's worth highlighting and saving for later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Knowledge is beautiful, but your outfit and surroundings can also be
We know that we should never judge a book by its cover, but… the issue of social perception painfully confirms that we do and will continue to do so because this is how our brains work. And isn't it nice when someone looks at us and thinks this girl is so classy?
Moreover, a nice outfit that makes us feel good gives us a lot of self-confidence. There are also many studies confirming the positive impact on motivation and concentration of a neat and aesthetic workplace.
2. Not just cramming, but also discovering
Broadening your horizons is easier with passion and real commitment. And to achieve this, the topics must really interest us. Not everyone has yet found something that they are extremely passionate about in science, so that is why you have to dig deeper and discover different areas.
3. Don't be afraid to use your knowledge in practice
Schools and universities, unfortunately, have their own rules and they do not always allow you to show your 100% potential. Thus, share your knowledge with others externally, write essays, blog and social media. This form of activity also makes you learn things faster and easier. In addition, contacts with others will expand your knowledge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Therefore, I must say that it is worth choosing your inspirations carefully. Nothing helps you enjoy studying better than a clear head and lack of prejudices.
*This post was inspired by my own experience with studying. If anyone is interested, I think I can share my mistakes that did not help me in an academic adventure :)

My UTMV Skellies!
This took me so long (it's over 5,000 words!) but here is a little blurb for all of my named skellies. This should help if you don't know about some of them. I'll be pinning it to my master post so it's easier to reference in the future.
Undertale: Under Development
Sans: Classic
- Classic is skeleton who's on the shorter side at around five feet tall. His bones are broader than human bones are, giving him the appearance of a bulkier body. His eyelights are a soft white with a hint of blue and his teeth are mostly blunt, save for his canines which are sharper. He usually has grooves underneath his eye sockets as he struggles with insomnia. He doesn't usually have visible ecto but when he does, it's a whitish-blue like his eyelights. He's likely in his early thirties or the Monster equivalent.
- He is seen as a lazy comedian and he tends to play into this perception. He's generally overlooked by both Humans and Monsters, partially because he's a weak Monster and partially because he doesn't usually go out of his way to draw attention to himself.
- He has a lot of worries and inner struggles as he tends to overthink things but he hides them behind a smile and a well timed joke. He also struggles with depression and a myriad of other negative emotions. Despite this, he's a compassionate person and habitually keeps an eye socket on those he cares about.
- He occasionally does odd jobs but he prefers performing at comedy clubs. He's naturally charismatic and enjoys telling objectively bad jokes, especially since Humans don't tend to find the funny bone man a threat. Making people laugh helps him overlook his own prejudices anyways. Otherwise, he keeps to his old habits and is often found at Grillby's or asleep in strange places.
- Sometime, I plan to write a long fic centered around him but it's still in the early planning stage as I've been focused on other projects. At the moment I have two chapters written and a very basic plot outline. This fic will be called The Caged Canary.
Papyrus: Vanilla
- Vanilla is a skeleton that is taller than most humans, at nearly seven feet tall. He's thinner than his brother but his bones are still thicker than human bones. His teeth are larger than his brother's but mostly blunt, save for his canines. He also doesn't usually have visible ecto but when he does, it is a bright orange. I haven't decided if he would have visible eyelights or not, although I am leaning towards yes, but they would also be bright orange. He is likely in his mid twenties or the Monster equivalent.
- He is seen as an ambitious but rather naive person. Many people find him a bit much but they don't want to hurt his feelings so they put up with him. Unfortunately, many humans have tried to take advantage of his perceived naivety but he soon proves them wrong.
- In reality, he is a very genuine person who does his best to see the best in people. He is aware that a lot of people don't take him seriously but he has discovered that they tend to trust him much more easily. He is also compassionate like his brother and is quick to stand up for what he knows is right, even if it's not the easy thing to do. He tends to struggle with insecurity and can be a people pleaser since he really wants to have friends and to be liked. He may also be an introvert although you wouldn't know it at first.
- I haven't decided what he does for a living on the surface yet but a lot of his hobbies carry over from his time in the Underground. He continues his hobby of making puzzles, even moreso now that he has access to more materials. His nerdy side means that he gets to collect more action figures and he even gets into video games and comics. He also enjoys wearing bright colours and increasingly outrageous patterns.
- He will be a major character in The Caged Canary although most likely he'll be a friend rather than a love interest. I really like him but I have a hard time picturing him as the type to settle into a romantic relationship. This could change though.
Underfell
Sans: Crimson
- Crimson is a large skeleton, reaching about six feet tall and is much bulkier than a human skeleton. His eyelights are a crimson red and he has almost shark-like teeth, with one having been replaced with a golden tooth. He doesn't usually have visible ecto, since he usually covers most of his body anyways, but it would match his eyelights. His claws aren't as pointy as his brother's but they are equally as sharp. He has quite a few scars, mostly as a result of getting into fights back in the Underground, although he doesn't feel the need to really show them off nowadays. He is two hundred and nine years old.
- For much of his adult life, he has had a rather infamous reputation and was known to dust anyone who even looked at him wrong. Despite this, he liked to spend time at Grillby's and chat it up with the patrons. He was all too willing to challenge others to drinking games or play poker with anyone, although most quickly learned the hard way that he tended to win these. It was also an unspoken rule that if you wanted to buy certain illicit goods, he was the one to talk to.
- He does have cruel tendencies especially since he has quite a bit of LV, but he has a soul deep down. While he doesn't have many friends or family, he's very protective of the ones he does have. He's calmed down a lot ever since leaving the Underground but he's still a rough mannered guy. While he doesn't like humans very much, he has a soft spot for Frisk since they were the one to set Monsters free and change the King's mind about waging war. He doesn't leave the house much and prefers to be lazy over anything, much to his brother's frustration.
- He doesn't have a job but he does occasionally help his brother around the farm. Otherwise, he lives off of the gold he accumulated Underground and tries to enjoy life now that he doesn't have to fight all the time. He likes to go on walks and has been able to indulge in his interests, such as astrology.
- He will be a major character in my next Underfell fic called Fractured Souls as a love interest. I have written a couple of chapters but have delayed uploading them with how busy I've been. I have so much brainrot over him though.
Papyrus: Scar
- Scar is more lanky than bulky but at seven feet tall, he still towers over most people, especially humans. His eyelights are more of a scarlet colour and his teeth are also very sharp as are his claws. He doesn't usually have visible ecto since he prefers long sleeves and pants, but it would match his eyelights. He has two parallel scars that pass through his left eye socket and are between four and six inches long. He has other scars of course but he also doesn't see much of a need to show them off. He's one hundred and ninety-six and thirteen years younger than his brother.
- Like his brother, he had an infamous reputation in the Underground and still does ten years later. He was much more ruthless than his brother to the extent that some people thought he was the one in charge. He had great ambitions of taking over Undyne's position as Captain of the Royal Guard but never got the opportunity to properly challenge her. Regardless, he controlled Snowdin and regularly made examples out of wrongdoers.
- He also has a lot of LV and not so secretly enjoys watching the suffering of others, provided they deserve it. He's also very protective of those he cares about, even if he has weird ways of showing it. He is much colder than his brother but if you manage to impress him, he'll occasionally give small compliments. He also doesn't like humans and will happily insult them, even when they're within earshot. He's almost always busy, partially because he can't sit around for long but also because his brother can't be bothered to do much of anything.
- He lives off of his savings from the Underground but also makes a bit of money from the hobby farm he keeps, although most of the produce is sold in the nearby Monster town. He's much happier living a simple life over all the fighting he used to do but still occasionally trains so that he doesn't grow weak. He has trained a wolf as an attack dog to protect his farm and also has an interest in archeology.
- He will be a major character in Fractured Souls, possibly as a love interest although I am undecided. I also adore him since I see him as a tsundere type and who doesn't love a hardworking guy?
Gaster: Vermillion
- Vermillion is between his brothers in height and on the slim side. His eyelights are vermillion in colour as is his ecto if he summons any. He has sharp teeth, sharp claws, and two large scars that pass through his eye sockets, nearly splitting his skull in half. He is the eldest of the three brothers and would be middle aged, possibly around four hundred years old? I haven't decided yet.
- Unfortunately, no one actually remembers him thanks to an unfortunate accident that erased him from existence. When he does return to the physical plane, those that were close to him start to remember bits and pieces but most have to get to know him all over again.
- He's a quiet, calculating person who is often rather cold, even towards those he cares about. Despite his high LV, he means well in his own way. He likes to sit back and observe people before offering his input, which leads to some actually good advice at times. He finds humans incredibly interesting and if given the opportunity, would take time to learn all he can about them.
- He used to be the Royal Scientist before the accident but because most of his research is long gone, he spends much of his time recording what he remembers. He helps Alphys with her research where he can but doesn't want to overstep. Otherwise, he likes to spend his time reading and taking in the surface.
- He will be a major character in Fractured Souls possibly as a love interest, but probably in a more platonic way, almost in a familial sense. I need to develop his character more of course but I really like the ideas I've come up with.
Underswap: Under Development
Sans: Blue
Papyrus: Saffron
- Unfortunately I haven't developed much at all for my Underswap boys beyond a few asks regarding Lolitas. I'm not even sure if I like Blue's name as it's rather generic. At the moment their dynamic is similar to the Tale brothers although I want them to have their own personalities. One day, I plan to at least write a oneshot but I don't have much of a plot beyond three paragraphs. Blue may show up in The Nightmare of Apathy though.
Horrortale: Under Development
Sans: Baston
- Baston is a large skeleton reaching six feet tall and has a stocky build. He has a red eyelight in his left eye socket and is blind in his right eye. The left side of his skull has a bad crack and his right eye socket has a few splintering cracks. His teeth are flat but still very sharp and his phalanges are tipped with claws. He's in his forties or the Monster equivalent.
- He doesn't meet a lot of people as he has purposely isolated himself from society but anyone who do meet him are usually terrified. He's a giant of a man who can move soundlessly through the woods while wielding an axe so this makes sense. For the most part, other monsters have a good opinion of him since he tried to protect and take care of them back in the Underground. He doesn't interact with a lot of people he used to know, partly because they settled further away but also because of what he had to do to survive the famine.
- He's a man of few words, even with his own brother. He spends much of his time out in the forest hunting, trapping, and contemplating the scenery around him. He's actually a great cook and years of experience mean he knows the best way to prepare nearly every kind of meat. Despite his frosty exterior, he's a gentle giant and he hates seeing anyone suffering. He prefers to fully observe a situation before acting so if he offers to help, it's because he thinks you actually need it.
- He's a woodsman and does most of the hunting and foraging while his brother takes care of the more domestic labour. This means he's often away from their little cabin for days at a time but whenever he's able, he also helps with the heavier chores like plowing the ground or chopping wood.
- He's actually the first skellie I came up with and is featured in a oneshot called Crazy & Cold. I'd love to write for him again but I don't know where to take his story at the moment.
Papyrus: Hemlock
- Unfortunately, I haven't developed Hemlock very much at all. I know he's a gentle soul and all too willing to make new friends, even though they live far away from civilization. He suffers from chronic pain and so is a bit limited on what he can do, but he likes making things like preserves and sewing. He really likes plants and keeps a garden during the warm months, although he occasionally has to ask his brother to help care for it.
Dreamtale
Lord Nightmare
- Nightmare is slightly stocky and is close to average height for humans. Thanks to consuming the Black Apples, he is always covered in a slightly corrosive substance that is basically liquid hate. The corruption covers his right eye socket and he is blind on that side as a result, although he makes use of his magic to compensate for this. His right eyelight is cyan and any ecto he summons would be the same colour. He has four tentacles protruding from his back which he uses interchangeably with his own hands. His teeth are flat but his canines are slightly sharp and his phalanges are tipped with sharp claws.
- He is feared and hated by pretty much everyone he meets. As the self-proclaimed Lord of Dusk and Shadows, he goes out of his way to spread negativity throughout the entire multiverse and enjoys making people suffer. He is the boogeyman that's in your closet, the monster under your bed, your sleep paralysis demon, and even a warlord conquering your country if he so chooses.
- Behind closed doors, he's vastly different from all the tales people tell. He's calm, domestic even, and keeps himself busy with clerical duties or does some reading. He's capable of being kind but positive emotions are hard to process and he's often rather cold even to those he cares about. He tends to be very possessive with the few people that don't hate him but maybe that's not such a bad thing.
- While he was formerly the Guardian of Negativity, he still carries on some of his old duties. There must always be balance and despite how much he would love to wipe out all positive feelings, he's older and wiser than he was as a child. He inflicts nightmares, especially on those he rules over, but most of the time it's so he can feed off of the negativity and not because he wants to see people suffer unnecessarily.
- He is a major character in The Nightmare of Apathy but has also been featured in a few oneshots as well.
Dream
- I haven't developed Dream a ton although he briefly appeared in a oneshot called A Gentle Soldier. I also plan to feature him later on in The Nightmare of Apathy. He's shorter than his brother and not as wise to the world since he's only been unfrozen from the stone for a short time. He's graceful, almost ethereal, and takes his duties as the Guardian of Positivity very seriously. He's definitely not on good terms with his brother and they've clashed many times in the past.
Siren AU
Red: Tiger Shark
- Red is a tiger shark siren with a skeletal upper half. He's just under twelve feet long and has numerous scars over his body, mostly from fights with other sirens. He has razor sharp teeth, with one having been replaced with a gold one, and equally sharp claws. As a Beast, he has ringed eyelights and they are a bright red. While he doesn't often summon ecto, it would match his eyelights if he did.
- As a siren, he doesn't exactly have friends and since he likes to migrate a lot, he doesn't have much opportunity to make any. Most sirens perceive him as just another male who will fight over potential mates and kill any rivals. He does tend to get into a lot of fights and because he's hot-headed, he isn't doing himself any favours to dispel the stereotype.
- Sure, he enjoys knocking other sirens down to size and establishing himself as the stronger individual, but that isn't all he is. He's clever and likes to catch his prey by surprise. He actively considers others feelings, provided they aren't jerks of course, and doesn't mind helping out here and there. He can be prone to jealousy but rather than express his feelings, he often keeps them inside until he inevitably explodes.
- He likes hunting difficult prey and finding interesting treasures. He also enjoys meeting new people, especially if they're nice.
- He's a major character in Swarmed By Sirens and is based on Llamagoddessofficial's character.
Sans: Orca
- Sans is an orca siren with a skeletal upper half. He's close to twenty feet long and also has many scars riddling his body with the most prominent being around his pectoral fins from being caught in a net as a calf and two puncture wounds from harpoons. He has white ringed eyelights and if he summoned ecto, it would match his eyelights as well. His teeth are flat but the edges are still sharp, as are his black claws.
- He's a terrifying presence in the northern waters, even though he's alone and without a pod. There are very few sirens who survive encountering him and all who do will attest that he is insane. He roams the same relative area of the ocean and regularly hunts down anyone in his "territory". He especially hates humans and will sink their vessel if he's able to, killing all on board.
- Tragically, he is haunted by the trauma of losing his entire pod when he was young due to siren hunters. As a result, he hates humans with a passion and tends to have possessive tendencies for the few people he's come to care about. He's a bit of a cuddle bug despite his murderous nature and loves being able to hold someone close. He's also quite charismatic to the point that you wouldn't know he has ulterior motives, almost.
- For lack of a better term, he likes to play with his food, usually while it's still alive too. It's not unheard of for predators to do this sort of thing so while some people might find it unsettling, most don't care. Otherwise, he enjoys fighting and showing off his strength.
- He is a major character in Swarmed By Sirens and is based on Llamagoddessofficial's character.
Skull: Cephalopod
- Skull is a cephalopod siren with a skeletal upper half. Thanks to deep-sea gigantism and possibly because of his untamed magic, he is much larger than most of his subspecies at sixteen feet long. He has jagged teeth, although they aren't as pointy as a shark's, and sharp claws. He only has one blood red eyelight although the ring isn't as pronounced as it is with the other two. He is missing part of the left side of his skull and he's blind in his right eye socket.
- Life is very different in the Abyssal Zone compared to the rest of the ocean and very few sirens actually make their homes there. Those who do could care less about reputations and only focus on staying alive. That being said, anyone who dares trespassing into his den never return. He doesn't hate anyone in particular and only kills to defend himself or for food.
- He's a simple person, preferring to sleep most of the time when he isn't hunting. He prefers to ambush his prey so that he can save his energy for when it counts. His injury has affected his memory and he doesn't know much about what his life was like before. He doesn't even remember if he has any family.
- He does like collecting shiny things but he doesn't have much use for them so he doesn't make it a habit. He doesn't care to show off his strength like the others, instead preferring to give gifts to potential mates.
- He's a major character in Swarmed By Sirens and is based off of Llamagoddessofficial's character.
The Dark Fortress: Under Development
Nightmare: Lord Donovan
- Donovan is covered in corruption thanks to being essentially forced to consume the Black Apples to survive a mortal wound. He has four tentacles protruding from his spine that are far stronger than they seem and has a bit of a stocky build. He has a cyan eyelight in his left eye socket and, while he could summon ecto, he doesn't see much need. His phalanges are tipped with sharp claws and he has sharp canines as well.
- He is a powerful sorcerer who can strike fear in the hearts of mortals just by looking at them. While there aren't many who actually know his name, they certainly know what he's done. He doesn't hesitate to destroy any perceived threat and his ruthlessness puts warlords to shame.
- Behind closed doors, he's much calmer, almost solemn at times, but bitterness has taken root in his soul. He hates that his birthright was ripped away from him and he wants nothing more than to get revenge on the ones responsible, although such a thing isn't possible anymore. Surprisingly, he takes pity on the outcasts and vagabonds of the world, giving them a place to belong in exchange for their loyalty. He highly values loyalty and as such, he needs people to prove themselves before he'll trust them.
- Other than conquering kingdoms, he likes to spend his time in his personal library where he can take comfort in one of the few things that brings him happiness. He's protective of his books and gets very upset if anyone even speaks of damaging them. He also enjoys experimenting with alchemy or magic and has a whole laboratory dedicated to these pursuits. He isn't really one for socializing, although he isn't opposed to spending quality time with the handful of people he trusts.
- He is from a oneshot called The Dark Fortress and serves as the love interest, much to his chagrin.
Killer: Dirk
- Dirk has a slight frame compared to the others but he's stronger than he appears. He doesn't have visible eyelights and constantly has corruption leaking out of his eye sockets. His soul has been warped beyond recognition and now appears as a red glowing target that floats above his ribcage. He's probably the only one of the four who cares to summon ecto regularly, although it matches his soul in colour. His phalanges are pointy and have dozens of small nicks where blades have bit into the bone.
- He is deadly in close quarters and while he usually plays the role of assassin, he's perfectly comfortable fighting on the front lines with the others. There aren't many outside of the fortress who even know of his existence and while he likes getting attention, he enjoys killing even more. While most of his targets never even see him coming, those who do quickly discover how insane he really is. He taunts his foes and is often grinning from ear to proverbial ear; sometimes he even makes crude jokes while in the thick of a fight.
- He's not too different behind closed doors compared to when others are around. Although, while he's still cocky, he also has some obsessive tendencies and tends to get jealous if you pay too much attention to others. He likes to act petty and steal things to annoy other people, especially if they're ignoring him. He's easily the most forward of the four and will flirt incessantly with anyone and everyone, although he's not actually serious about it most of the time.
- He used to be a common bandit until that life grew too dull and he became a killer for hire. Now that he's part of the Dark Fortress, he has more time for himself and can afford to relax without having to sleep with one eye socket open. He likes to collect pets with his favourite being a cat-like creature he named Princess Floofer-biscuits; he usually just calls her Princess though. He also likes to collect knives and random souvenirs from his various jobs.
- He's featured in The Dark Fortress and a few related drabbles, although I intend to write more for him sometime.
Dust: Reven
- Reven is rather unremarkable looking, being about average height and not having any noticeable scars like the others. He has scarlet eyelights with his left one having an additional ring of blue and if he summons ecto, it would be a light purple. He has flat teeth with slightly pronounced canines and he meticulously takes care of his phalanges so that they're sharp but not overly so.
- He's a sort of jack of all trades on the team, although he is shockingly good at being stealthy when the situation calls for it. Most people only know of him and what he's done, but he's perfectly alright with that. He barely talks at all except with himself when no else is paying attention and when not on a job, he tends to spend his time sleeping or maintaining his gear.
- What you see is pretty much what you get with him, although on occasion, bits of his old personality seep through the cracks. He has a tendency to stare at people, especially if he likes them, which while unnerving, is really the only way you'll catch him smiling. He secretly enjoys slapstick comedy and likes to play pranks on people, although he won't admit he's the one responsible. He isn't exactly religious, but he was once a paladin for a justice deity and he'll occasionally slip into old habits. Most of the time this is just muttering their title under his breath when he's frustrated, but other times, he'll find himself in the act of avenging some injustice without even meaning to.
- Other than sleeping, he habitually sharpens his weapons but he has a hard time mustering the same effort when it comes to his own armour or clothing and so he's pretty much always covered in dust. He'll clean up if he's actually dirty or bloody but only because he has to. He doesn't like silence and has to find ways to fill it to keep himself distracted from the things he's done. Which is why he hangs around his teammates, even if he acts standoffish and aloof. Otherwise, he enjoys spending time in nature or doing something that gets him to think like games of logic.
- He's featured in The Dark Fortress and I would love to explore his character more but I'm not sure how just yet.
Horror: Maul
- Maul is larger than the others, despite being a skeleton, and is a bit self-conscious about this. The left side of his skull is missing thanks to a nearly mortal injury he sustained and he's also blind in his right eye socket. He only has one blood red eyelight in his left eye socket and while he technically could summon ecto, his magic isn't as stable as it once was. The edges of his teeth are jagged from years of wear and tear, as are his claws.
- Thanks to his size, he's generally the muscle of the team and he's content to keep things that way. He has a terrifying presence, mostly from his size and tendency to silently watch people. He mostly only speaks when spoken to and when he does, he's rather blunt and will say exactly what he's thinking. It's obvious that he's been through some horrible circumstances in the past but he doesn't like to bring up bad memories.
- He basically has guard dog energy and despite looking scary, he's possibly the nicest out of the four. He likes to keep to himself and tinker with things or try out new recipes, but he doesn't mind company, so long as he isn't being constantly interrupted anyways. Despite everything he's been through, he still carries himself with a sort of noble pride and keeps an eye socket out for his teammates. He isn't one for finery and prefers to craft his own gear rather than steal it, not that he could do so without being noticed anyways.
- He's the only one with cooking talent and has become the unspoken chef, but he doesn't mind since it means he can look after those he cares about. He's also decent at repairing armour and maintaining weapons, although the others don't usually need his assistance. He also enjoys taking long walks outside, especially at night, and just relaxing in general.
- He's featured in The Dark Fortress and while I want to expand on his character, I haven't thought of anything just yet.
Mafiafell: Under Development
Sans: Cadmium
Papyrus: Carmine
- Apparently I named these guys and while I have written down a few ideas, I don't have any solid plans for them just yet. I really like Mafiafell so I'll probably write at least a oneshot at some point. Appearance wise, they'd probably be similar to my Underfell boys.

hello! it’s yearning nonny again. this is SUCH a random question and I’m already embarrassed about asking it but I’ve wanted to ask writers it for years
would you say the kind of love you write about exists? like that draw to them and knowledge that the person you’re with is it for you kind of thing? I’ve always wondered if it’s fiction or drawn from real experiences
I imagine this makes me sound lame as heck but I’ve not seen a lotta true love in my life irl and I’ve always wondered where the inspo comes from!
Hi Yearning Nonny!
You don’t sound lame at all 🫶 Don’t be embarrassed, this is a great question imo! 🫶
I don’t know what other writers would say to this question, but I would say both yes and no.
Romance, and indeed fiction in general, IMO is always going to be a heightened version of anything that would and indeed does happen in real life. By design really, it’s escapism to a realm that is exaggerated, colourful, other-worldly.
I would say real love is much less dramatic than it’s portrayed in lots of romance stories, but no less wonderful for it. It’s more calming and grounding, which is exciting in a different way. They will be your very best friend. So very different to any toxic, twisted relationships people might have experienced, often mistaking that for true love due to the intensity.
But real love is also amazing precisely because it’s so very human - it’s sometimes hard and messy and maddening. It’s almost certain you will disagree and squabble, but there is a lot of forgiveness and sacrifice too. Choosing that person when sometimes it might seem easier not to.
But I’m also not going to lie and pretend it lasts forever for everyone. Sometimes, yes unfortunately, it fades. People change or what we want in life changes. And that’s not to diminish its power while it lasts.
I used to question if what I’ve experience is “true love” and that’s because I was always comparing it to these stories and tropes we are bombarded with that IMHO are often unhelpful.
I think after many years on this earth I’d say real love is about looking someone in the eye and wanting to be vulnerable with them, seeing it as a strength, not a weakness, to do so. It’s a bravery to let them see every side of you. The broken and scared bits as well as the good.
In a long term relationship someone will see you at your very worst, crying on the floor covered in vomit cos you are sick, for example, or breaking down with grief, and it won’t alter how they feel about you because they accept every aspect of you, even the parts of yourself you might struggle to love.
So… the inspo for stories… it’s partially based on experience, at least for me. But it’s also exaggerated. I wouldn’t want the sort of love that’s in a lot of romance stories, it seems fucking exhausting to be honest lol.
I hope and believe you will experience love in your life. Even if not romance, the love of close friendship can be just as life sustaining and emotionally fulfilling as romantic love in my experience.
As my boy Benedict says, love is not finite. You may love many people in the course of your life for a myriad of reasons, not just romantic.
Anyway I hope this LONG ASS reply was helpful in some way. And I also welcome feedback from others on their experiences. They could well be different.
Thanks for your ask 😁🧡🧡

How I write metas? A meta about metas
Tumblr media
If this deconstruction post is going to be useful for any aspiring meta writer on this OPM fandom that I currently follow, then be my guest. :D
Warning: Semi-long post.
Step 1: Inspiration
Nope, really can't get into my head all the time to write stuff as much as I would love to but when I do, it's because I get a good inspiration from something. It does not really matter at this point if it's short or long, just the subject matters. Then if I get inspired, I will usually stew on that idea for a while and think about the points in the manga that fit.
Unfortunately inspiration does not strike all the time so there's always that. I'm going with the route that "you can't force inspiration to come to you, you want the inspiration to become you" or something like that. Take that with grain of salt, I just made it up on the spot.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Practice
I've personally been writing fanfics since I was...a teen I believe and meta is just a subsection of writing school essays, except it's actually fun. So writing something has been quite a lot of work put behind it, but nobody says one cannot start from scratch today and the meta doesn't need to be immediately impressive, we're just writing it for fun yanno? For other fandom peeps who maybe wanna hear our thoughts. Just gotta start from somewhere yanno? My earlier metas are prolly a fair bit different than my current metas.
Like they say, practice makes perfect.
Step 3: The creative process
Ok so to the nitty gritty of the meta making... PLOT NO JUTSU!
I oftentimes either discuss the meta on discord channels with likeminded peeps and then start gathering some images from the manga to use as my images to enhance my point and make my texts also visually interesting to look at and make some clarifying points. I tend to find some good relative image to use as my first image because it'll show up in archive search like so:
Tumblr media
It'll be easier to search for my metas even without searching for my tags from my archives if they look similar.
Next, I keep a folder for all my meta images in a neat pile and I use paint ms to cut me nice images to post into my meta and I also have cubari , the one site which hosts all the chapters so far, open where I can just grab images whenever. Basically any kind of image tool you got from paint to gimp to photoshop can help you crop images you want to use if you want to use images in your meta.
My brain can sometimes be pretty hard to follow apparently, so I do try to parse a lot when I write my texts and keep it somewhat coherent. Parsing information via the canon timeline can help form a coherent timeline to follow in a meta.
In general, you want your writing progress to be seamless and disturbance free creative process, not unlike drawing. Sometimes ambient music on the background can help focus on the actual meta writing process (currently listening to Ardenweald from WoW), which can take me from 1 hour to all the way to 5 hours in a single sitting, which is quite long but remember, tumblr drafts saves your progress even if you save it nowhere else and it's entirely possible to finish the thinking process another day when you have more time.
Sometimes I include links to either my own metas or some outside source, which I then briefly quote on my text, like in the Saitama mental health meta where I citate depression effects on memory recollection. The quote sources can also be stated at the very end like in a real essay, but to me personally I'm fine without the citations at the end, long as I state my sources and then put quotes into indented text.
Tumblr media
Step 4: The writing itself
Paraphrasing helps make your text look coherent and easier to read to just about anybody, so avoid pure walls of texts. I usually write longer texts, but that is up to the writer to decide how short, long or how abridged they can/wanna make their work, which frankly is not one of my best skillsets lmao. Just gotta make sure to put that warning in the front if it's long post.
Nowdays, I also include chapter names and numbers about the relevant information I'm writing meta about in between () marks and itallics to further separate it from plain text, which might be helpful to people if they search for that specific plot point from the manga itself. Then if it's a particularly long meta, a tl;dr at the bottom if I can form a proper tldr.
Sometimes I also get struck by random thought and I just have to write it out haha. Sometimes I ask for aid and opinions on discord channels.
Any long metas should definitely have that "readmore" cutoff in the beginning, else entirety of tumblr or wherever you'll post the meta will hate you.
Step 5: Revision & Tagging
You can hold on from posting the meta the very same day and just keep it revised for a bit longer if you want to correct spelling mistakes or if you think you can maybe adds some more to it. Revision is just as important in writing meta as in writing something like fanfiction and I personally do a fair bit of both.
When tagging, I just use "opm meta" for all my opm related metas and then tag in fandom and characters that apply to the current meta and then some other related subjects like "mental health, character study" etc. I prolly haven't tagged my earlier metas that properly but eh... if you write on another platform and then copypaste it to tumblr, make sure that the plain text shows properly and doesn't create any weirdness.
Closing thoughts...that's about it folks, that's how I write meta and how I wrote this piece as well. Which took me roughtly 1hr 45mins to write down at my current writing speed but I've been thinking about this since yesterday haha.
Tumblr media
Tl;dr: Inspiration, practice, creative process by saving images and thoughts as they go, writing and paraphrasing, revision and tagging properly.

Of Pencil and Paper
(Trigger warning: mention of Sexual Assault and self harm)
People often ask why I stay with analog medium? The world is moving, digital art is growing fast and it does perform better on industrial scale. But I can never find how to answer that question without it sounded like I'm selling a sad story. So a lot of people only get the "I don't like it" answer. Short and simple. Yet sometimes, I can see the prejudice in their eyes, how arrogant, they said.
It's unhealthy. I almost conviced myself that I simply didn't like it when the root was deeper than that. It's easier to tell the lie, to sounds like an arrogant old school artist who dislike digital art with passion. No, never that. I like the texture of paper and the smell of wet paint. Not in the artistic sense, at least not at first, I found peace in that because they once saved me from my darkest days. Thus, they are familiar.
I always love a story. Consuming one or writing it myself. Yeah, I used to write. Ten years old me have a dream to be a novelist. And it all shattered when I'm thirteen. I'm sexually assaulted by one of the teacher in my school. At school hour, in an empty classroom because everyone else in a middle of morning prayer and I'm the only kid at that time with different believe. And everything spiralling down from there. It was a prestigious school I study hard to get in, that jerk used to be everyone favorite teacher including me, now, I saw that place like a hell on earth.
I never get justice. Never. Me and family being silenced for the sake of keeping the school reputation, with just a word of apology and so called promise to never repeat. As if the SA trauma can be healed like that. But world is unfair and the society is in the hand of the rich. My family is in minority from every aspect, ethnic, religion stance, society, even economy. The school even has the audacity to blackmailing us, they said I'm alone in the classrom that day because I've been writing porn on my book. The book they already confiscated and read. The book where thirteen years old me write a silly treasure hunt story. I've never saw that book again.
You see, I have a lot of issue at that time. We don't even have money to pay for therapist. Nor we can get a free counseling for victim because the case was never disclosed. The school have connection with the local police and I can just bury that injustice deep in me. At one point it almost reach a self harm. I used to scrubbing my skin until it was red, but the phantom hands still there, and I very tempted to peel it out. My family hid all the sharp object, I think I scare them badly. But I found a single pencil. Unfortunately (or fortunately) not sharp. I run it across my skin, but they didn't tear. So I take it on paper.
At first, maybe I'm doing art as some kind of therapy. I pour all that anger and disgust on paper, for months it was all angry lines and colours. The texture as I scratch the pencil, the slash of black it made across the white paper, it strangely satisfying. A little bit sadistic perhaps, because I'm doing it with the face of a demon that appear every night in my dreams, that person face. But my family keep giving me more paper, they told me to keep going. By the time I'm calm enough, when I finally graduate, I start to turn that lines into a drawing. I love a story. And because words now terrify me, I finally learn how to draw.
With times, I learn to enjoy it for the fun and all the beauty in it.
The thing is, all that sensory experience became a habit. I need to feel the paper, I need to hold a wooden pencil, a wooden brush, I need to smell the paint, so I feel safe enough to concentrate and lose myself in arts. So I can loosen up a little bit and not being so hypervigilant. Maybe I'm afraid the screen and digital art can't provide me that sense of safety. That smooth glide on the screen gave me dissasociative feeling and freak me out. I try it before and nope out so fast my last bit of paint on the pallete was not even dry yet. I enjoy digital arts when I'm not the one doing it and good for all those illustrator that can make it to the industry. But I'm here first and foremost to keep myself sane.
I'm okay now. Fabulous. Fewer and fewer relapse over the years. By the time I'm fixing all my family financial problem and finally have enough to find a therapist, they said I already handle myself good. I'm carrying thirteen years old me crawling out from that dark pit with sheer spite and luck for finding the perfect outlet to regulate that negative emotion. Giving myself an art therapy without even realise it was one. I can talk freely about that now, maybe I finally find that peace with myself.
So, do you see how long this is? Thats why I take a two minute silence whenever someone ask me why I did not do digital art when I have a potential to make more money with it. How do you even explain this? And I don't think they will care. We Asian do not believe in mental health issue 😂😂 why so weak? So saying I simply doesn't like it looks like the fastest way to give answer and switch topic. Not a lie, but not the truth either.
But my therapist told me to write this out because they think it can help someone out there about the story of art therapy, and here it is. Next time when you are about to ask and pester someone about why they didn't switch into digital art, perhaps do it on a kinder tone. Maybe they have more story behind that, big or small.
If this resonate with you, here, let me give you a hug. You are a survivor and so damn strong, I'm super proud of you!
May the world be kinder to you today, tomorrow, and many years to come.

Writing/Art Update 6.4.2024
Unfortunately, this week, I am stuck in Everything is Slow and Probably Isn't Even Worth It land.
I've been fighting this story for two weeks now, and it just doesn't want to...be a story. I have rewritten it from scratch at least twice now, including swapping perspectives, and I haven't even gotten to the fight scene parts yet. Furthermore, it's such an incredibly niche concept, like I am really down in the sauce on this one. On the other hand, it is my sauce, like this is of interest to me, so I don't want to give up on it. On the other hand, sometimes it's like--if I am the primary audience for this, and it's causing me a lot of grief, is it really worth it? I don't know.
I am also working on an art project that is, again, primarily of interest to me, which is to say, I am attempting to redraw this loving pan over a bunch of goony-ass lieutenants. I generally draw people pretty closely on model, and I'm attempting to do a lot more stylization. I've been working on it at roughly a-lieuentant-a-day, and I am currently 5 lieutenants in, 6 to go. I am...not good at this. I mean! I think this is a good exercise for my art brain, etc etc, but it's moderately painstaking and I also kinda suck at this and I'm not entirely sure I will want to show off my efforts when I'm done.
Anyway, everything is hard right now, and I am very tired. I think that I'm not sick anymore, but it lingered so long, it's really be hard to tell if it's fully gone or not. I have been reading a lot lately, too (in part because of being sick). I have been very lucky to have read, like, 3 very good books in a row, although the one after that, I did not care for. I have two library holds due to come in shortly, so I'm trying not to start a new one until they get here. Also, while reading is good for me and I am in favor of reading, reading is a lot easier than writing, so I'm trying to push myself thru this writing thing before I get into another book, as well.
I don't knooooooooooow. Maybe I should just put this story aside and if I pick it up again later, I'll have more energy for it. I'm afraid, though, that I've got it all loaded into my RAM at the moment and I don't want to lose that. I'm probably also fooling myself that trying to write something else would be easier or more fun--I think I might just be having a writing-is-hard time. School is going to be out shortly, and it's going to be even harder to do stuff, which makes me extra mad that I am too stupid and lazy to actually take advantage of the time that is available to me, but that's just how it is sometimes.
Oh, Damage History is over now. I should probably do some sort of wrap-up post and change my pinned. I was going to do that today, but I'm not sure I feel up to it. Later this week, hopefully!

Hi Nalyra! Any advice for when the fandom lets you down? Thank you, I love your blog
Mhhh. Been there. 😬 *big hug*
I‘m gonna go with Sam‘s advice here: go back to the source. 😅
Reread, rewatch, go to the few mutuals you really trust.
People are people and fandoms are made up from people. There’s those who will let you down even if they don’t intend to or even realize, because ultimately there often are a lot of unspoken expectations, and luckily? unfortunately? we cannot look into another’s head. Realizing one’s own expectations can be a hard and painful process. And fandoms have dynamics of their own, too, and these can be hard to manage.
But ultimately… you should probably try to find the joy in what brought you joy in the first place. (This is easier said than done I‘m well aware, especially with a long hiatus).
Keep a little nook of that joy for yourself. Write, draw, listen to something just for yourself.
Go on a big rant about that which annoys you… and then save it to the drafts. Sometimes it helps just to write it down^^ Or ask a trusted mutual/friend if you can rant to them^^
That would be my advice, I guess.
Good luck dear. We‘ve all been there, so maybe, if it helps? Don’t feel alone in this^^ (and feel free to drop by anytime!) *hugs*

Pick 3 of your favorite characters. Tell us when and how you fell in love with them. Inquiring minds want to know :)
Then tag 3 or more people, hopefully who aren't shy :D.
3 of my favourite characters.... that's quite the challenge I have to admit. Because I read a lot and had a lot of favourite chars accordingly. But, here we go, I will try to give this a bit of bandwith, because I have character types that speak to me much easier than others.
Tumblr media
Boromir of Gondor
When did I fall in love with this character? At about 13, when I first read Lord of the Rings. I remember reading through the story, and wondering why none of his companions would try and reach out to him. Legolas and Gimli waste time arguing whether bow or sword is the better weapon, while beside them their comrade is slowly drifting off into darkness. Boromir also had some vibes of Hagan of Tronege from the Niebelungenlied to me, also a character who is considered dark, fierce and also fiercely loyal. While many consider Hagen the bad guy of the story, I also liked him best. The early picture of Boromir that I had in my mind, was close to the book describtion, black hair, very tall, haunted grey eyes and a scar on his forehead. Naturally when the movies came along, my favourite actor Sean Bean had the role, and the picture changed around a little. Watching his interpretation of Boromir seeded the first ideas for a story arc about him in my brain, though it would take me another ten years to sit myself down and write the story. In that story i then explored many of the questions I had since first reading the novel: What drove Boromir to such extremes? What happened to Gondor? How did Aragorn leaving after the Umbar campaign impact Gondor long.term? Even after finishing that huge arc, I still love Boromir as a character. His story has been with me for a long time, and will hopefully remain with me for a long time still.
Tumblr media
2. Raistlin Majere
I discovered the dragonlance books by accident in my teens. And while the quality of the novels can be called into question, their humour certainly still echoes with me. That and... Raistlin. He was the character I found fascinating at once, and not just because he was the only one in the group actually using his brain. Unfortunately the authors had set up his split from the group and later his "fall" in War of the Twins, instead of really exploring the character with more depth. There was so much potential there, so much aspects to tell a story. Raistlin had the potential to be one of those compelling dark characters, who casn make the heroes torn, because while not with them on principle, their help is still invaluable. I sometimes consider writing a story about him, beginning from before his trials at the Tower of Wayreth and building the AU from there. But I would have to take huge liberties, and have yet to find just the right story companion for him. What draw me to Raistlin is his intelligence, also his detachment, his ability to see the situation for what it is, and not need delusions about hope or good, to sustain himself. He sees what is, and doesn't despair but come up with a plan. That nickname "the sly one" hit me hard when I first read about him, because it told me how judgemental those friends of his were.
Tumblr media
3. Eskel
Ciri arriving in Kaer Morhen, and getting frightened by one of Geralt's comrades, because his face is clawed up in some manner... I still remember reading that scene, some time in the 90ies. I was curios at once, especially as scarface, ahm Eskel, proved to be a nice guy in the few scenes he had in the book. I liked him, and I wanted to know more about him. I came up with several stories how he had gotten his scars, and who he was outside of just one of Geralt's brothers. Unfortunately the author never bothered to tell us more about him. Then came the games and I was only marginally enticed by them. Some aspects are good, others are meh... and I will honestly admit that I am still so-so about the Diedre tale. Then came Netflix... and wow was I pissed. Eskel needed his own heroic story I decided and well... it happened. He's still my favourite Witcher, and hopefully will remain so.
Honourable Mentions
Tumblr media
Lan al Mandragoran
Wheel of time was another series I devoured in the late 90ies (and on as new books came out), and Lan was my favourite character in them. I was sure he would die in Tarmon Gai'don, but that did not hinder me devouring everything about him. And what a confrontation in the last battle. Reading that, i was sure, so sure, he'd not come out of this alive, and so happy when he did. I would love to write a story about him and Tam meeting at the Blood Snow and upsetting the entire applecart of events.
Athos
Athos from the Three Musketeers is another childhood hero, from reading the books (Three Musketeers/Twenty Years After/ The Viscount of Bragelonne) when I was a young teen. I like Athos, is aloofness, his honour, is utter reality-defying sticking with said honour, and also his haunted past. He was one of my first fanfic subjects (cringe, the stories were so bad) and i still adore him to this day.
Tagging @regis-favorite-raven, @do-androids-dream-ao3acc, @lohrendrell and @eskel-loves-lilbleater to talk about their favourite characters and how they encountered them.

Do you agree that there should be more fat artists who should get into the whole muse blog idea?
It makes it much easier to show your ideas instead of explaining them, as you can just draw your muse in the exact body shape and size you desire them to be. Also, you wouldn't have to deal with screenshotting images of your character as little icons when you can quickly draw them like you have.
Bit of a difficult question honestly. I mean, I've personally known one or two other askblogs that function similarly to mine (in terms of art, both others were sfw), and art + response is how it used to be back in the olden days.
But honestly as I've progressed I've both started to feel a little bit critical of my own art that i use for this series and a bit more appreciative of taking art from screenshots and official sources (and sometimes other fat art). Like, you'd think the former would be easier, and it's true that your intent as to how your character looks is made way more clear, but at the end of the day...
I find it pretty hard to switch gears from roleplay to art drawing to fic writing, honestly, and I do have ADHD. So it's become more of a burden of duty than anything else, unfortunately. Not like I don't enjoy drawing or anything, but it's not that simple!
When it comes to other fat artists, though... honestly I think if they're also into roleplay and looking to elaborate on their characters, both canon and OC, then I don't see why not! It might not always turn out how you want, but it's not a bad idea either.

For starters, I know you get this kind of comment all the time, but it’s true: Your style of writing is honestly so breathtaking and incredible. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever read anything better in my life. I always look forward to reading your works, and I just have to ask, how did you develop your writing style? It’s like - the details, word choice and plot are always so interesting and authentic. I really hope this ask isn’t overbearing, I’m just so entranced with the way you write.
oh wow. i don't have crying reaction images on my laptop good enough for this unfortunately
this is not overbearing at all anon!! you made my night :')
i mentioned briefly that i initially wrote poetry, which i think translates into my writing style being on the more lyrical/flowery side, and up until recently i really struggled with and hated dialogue and anything character-centric. now it's my favourite and the prose has actually become ancillary in my process at times. honestly language/writing is my biggest and oldest special interest and i've always become really easily fixated on dialects, phrasing, words that stand out to me, etc, so i sort of collect them as i go and they'll get stuck in my head for days where i just compulsively repeat or draw them out with my hands — writing is just easier and more socially acceptable lol. i keep a very long list of words i like that i'm constantly adding to (i'm sure you can find some repeats in my fics) and i get excited at the prospect of writing something that could elicit the same feeling in someone else that i get when i read/hear a phrase that clicks for me. (recent example is in the early narration of baldur's gate 3 when one of the mindflayer's eyes are described as "wet, orange pearls" GOD i can't stop thinking about it) i guess it's like how some people get really hyped about solving math equations or puzzles. that's me when i can write something accurately to the way it feels in my head.
otherwise, i'm obsessed with tom riddle, so that helps. i was talking a while ago about writing an invisible life of addie larue au for him and that's because it's not an exaggeration to say he's always at the back of my mind. every piece of media i engage with somehow loops back to him. i am literally always Putting Him In Scenarios. for plots specifically, to be honest i actually find it hard to write on here sometimes because i always want to do more with him than i find i can in a oneshot! i lean toward longfics with ocs because, well, i get to Put Him In More Scenarios, and ones more niche to my tastes.
hopefully that answers your question, i got a little carried away but thank you again 😭<3

Always love your headcanons :) now that we have official news of the new ATLA movie in 2025, what are your predictions?
Thank you!
To summarize what we know, here's a list of everything I've seen:
Teaser Image
Character Descriptions
Timeline Placement
Unfortunately, the source for all of this is Avatar News, which sometimes jumps to conclusions too quickly and presents them as probable facts. However, this is all very basic information, so I feel safe speculating on it.
The big question is what this movie is about, both in terms of plot and theme. The plot could be anything, but the image has some buildings in the background that look more 'classical' than the Republic City architecture, so my guess is that the gAang are on the move again, as they should be. It raises the question of what is drawing the whole gAang back together if not their pet city. I can see Toph joining just for some excitement, but if Zuko is involved, it must be some big, nation-spanning concern. So it's probably going to be suitably epic for a theatrical release movie.
I'm leaning towards Spirit Troubles of some kind, but given my pedigree, that's probably not a surprise. I'm leaning away from a threat that could start/restart a war, especially involving the Earth Kingdom, as that was the plot of several of the Gene Yang comics, and I think those highlighted how poorly suited the gAang cast is for that kind of thing. Going after bandits or a warlord or something doesn't really feel like it would merit Zuko's direct involvement, even if they pull in Long Feng as a renewed threat to clean up that dangling plot point.
The only non-Spirity thing I can think of that would be both epic and pull in all these characters is something involving the Order of the White Lotus. The Red Lotus was the best plot in LoK, and having a rogue OWL member or faction might somehow pose a threat to international stability, but trying to limit knowledge of the OWL (if that's still a thing at this point in time?) could lead to Zuko getting involved directly rather than sending subordinates.
Of course, the big question is who else is going to get involved with our main cast of characters. With Zuko in the movie, will we see something with Mai? I've pointed out how conspicuously absent she's been from any media that might finally resolve The Dread Breakup Subplot, and it was recently pointed out to me that she's been getting some non-story attention lately. Could that be build-up to an appearance and subplot in this movie? I think it's hard to say. Mai isn't listed in the cast profiles, but it could be they already have an actress in mind for the character, or maybe she's just a very minor character only making a glorified cameo. But if so, why is she being held back in other media? Perhaps simply because she'll be prominent in tie-in material to the movie, rather than the movie itself- you know, a prequel comic that reveals how she and Zuko get together, putting a foundation beneath her appearing as Zuko's fiance for one scene or something.
Suki and Ty Lee, sadly, are less likely to appear. Sokka's love life was never elaborated upon in LoK, so it's wide open for them to do anything with it in this movie, but I think they'll lean towards either continuing to say nothing about it or just mention Suki without showing her. Leaving Mai out of the adventure is easier if she needs to hold things down in the Fire Nation, but it would take a lot more explaining for why the Kyoshi Warriors don't help out if they appear in the movie. Having too many characters running around is a common writing pitfall, and while it can be made to work, it's easier to keep extraneous characters out of sight and out of mind.
But how can we be sure if Suki and Ty Lee are extraneous if we don't know the main theme of the movie? Well, the focus is on Aang and Katara. And I'm predicting that they're being pulled away from Republic City, their home and base. And, if this is going to be a movie released into theaters, I'd hope that it would be more than just An Adventure Aang Has As An Adult. This is America, not Japan, and for better or for worse we don't make theatrical features out of what are essentially extended random episodes of a long-running cartoon. So I'm thinking it has to a turning point for Aang, at least emotionally.
And I'm guessing it's this specific turning point.
(And check out that reply beating me to this prediction months ago. XD)
But yeah, I feel like the only big thing left for Aang -- at least in terms of a bankable cinematic adventure -- is to restore or rediscover enough Air Nomad culture enough to really get the Air Acolytes off the ground. It can leave the origin in the comics alone (basically, random culturally insensitive kids who form an Aang Fan Club and then pressure him into creating a cult they join) and just jump into the idea that there are existing people called to Air Nomad culture and Aang's leadership, but he doesn't have much to offer them beyond internships while he does Avatar stuff. But the movie's plot kicks off and Aang discovers that it's tied to some repository of Air Nomad culture or knowledge or just a herd of sky bison or lemurs, and so he has to act to save some of the last vestiges of his culture, and in doing so he finds the inspiration to create the Air Acolytes we see in LoK, including a reclamation of the Temples. Perhaps the threat even involves the Northern Air Temple in some way, caused by them messing around with stuff they shouldn't have.
You could even swing it so that this is why Zuko is personally tagging along, that the Fire Lord helping to restore this bit of the Air Nomads is importantly symbolic. The importance of this to Aang could also be why Toph is on the quest (in her cool new cape), since the comics have established that she doesn't go on all his adventures anymore now that she has responsibilities. If desired, this could even be tied into a "Is it time for us to expand our family?" subplot for Kataang.
That's about as much as I can speculate based on what we know. I'm sure this is 99% likely to be all completely wrong, and it's possible that teaser image is nothing but some concept art that doesn't even reflect the final product. But the main thing I'm looking for with this movie is its justification for existing, since the backstory between AtLA and LoK actually feels pretty boring, and AtLA made its Coming Of Age arcs so epic that it's hard to imagine these characters not feeling like their lives peaked before they even hit adulthood. So that's what my speculation has tried to cover.
I'd probably also be satisfied with a random adventure, though, as long as the story is good and the movie looks amazing. I've seen two of the My Hero Academia movies in theaters, after all.

Hello :)
First of all I need to say: your art is so, so lovely and beautiful and makes me smile every time that it graces my dash <3
Second of all, I know that you are also a writer next to a painter, so I have a question: How do you get yourself to write? As someone who draws more often than they write (even though I have been writing a lot as a child), I find it hard to just do it. Art feels so much faster and straight to the point, while writing requires so much structure, planning, consistency, and background knowledge of the lore and the characters. Therefore it feels harder for me to just let loose and go off, as you can do while drawing. It feels really overwhelming sometimes. I don't know if you suffer from similar struggles or not, but do you have any advice for sitting down and actually doing it?
Well, anon. I wish I had an answer to this. The last actual thing I wrote (and published) was over two years ago*, unfortunately. It seems sometimes it really is just easier to sit down and do art. Like you said, that doesn't necessarily mean art is easier, just that it takes less critical thinking.
And yeah, of course, I experience this too. It's largely one of the reasons I haven't written anything in the last two years. I've been slowly pulling myself out of some extreme burnout. (Don't worry, I'm good now).
I mean, I can give the cliche advice here and say, as with anything, it's discipline and routine that help get it done. If you schedule a time to write each day and make sure you sit down to do it--whether you feel like it or not--you will write something. It's true. It will work.
But more than that, I think it's better to realize a lot of this problem--the "spinning your wheels" feel of writing--is an overthinking problem. Sometimes for me, if I call myself out on the fact that I'm overthinking something, it makes it easier to get over. So try that?
I find that self-discipline, kindness, and awareness are the key components to getting unstuck.
Then, don't think about it. Just do it. Write something, and then write something else. Eventually, the writing will get done.
That's my approach, anyway. I hope that helps a little.
*And, yes, I am still working on the end of this fic. I have 30k of it written, actually. I would post it, but I've already made people wait two years for it, so I don't want to post anything incomplete.

Twisted Wonderland Matchup: Azul Ashengrotto #2
Warnings: Fluff.
@axolotlhalo Request: Hey there, if it's no problem, can I ask for a romantic twst matchup? No gender prefs. I've got short black hair, hazel eyes, tan skin and freckles. I'm around 6'7 and am non binary, but I use he/it/they pronouns [feel free to just use they/them] ^^ My name is Charlie, but I like any nicknames ppl give me. In friend groups I usually take on the role as the parental figure, making sure everyone stays safe but still has fun, although sometimes with enough convincing I'll join in on the chaos. I absolutely love listening to people ramble and talk about what they like, so when with a group I stay quiet and pitch in when I need to.
My type of fashion is basically dark academia and grunge, usually wearing turtlenecks and coats, I have A LOT of piercings, nose piercings, ear piercings and a tongue piercing.
I'm a pretty laid back, calm, quite hard to anger and protective. I really enjoy reading books a lot and even write, sometimes I draw as well! I also know how to play the guitar. I always try to get my friends to laugh, I can easily tell what my friends like and dislike, so I use that to try and cheer them up, by cracking some jokes or making them food. On the other hand, I really struggle with big crowds and going out in loud places, I'm super socially awkward and struggle with anxiety a lot, so I get really exhausted and grumpy when outside, I'm quite easily stressed out and overthink a lot.
I like to collect rocks, figurines, and enjoy learning about history!! Esp egyptian history! If comfortable enough, I'll show off my interests, but only to people I'm close with.

After going through the information given, I believe that you best pair well with Azul Ashengrotto!
Just when Azul thought that he had seen two of the tallest people in his life, you had to appear. Geeze, were you an eel species of merfolk like the Leech twins or were humans just as prone to having outliers in their populace? Seriously, what have you been doing? You’re so tall! Once Azul gets over his brief moment of shock and blatant gaping, he’ll compose himself right away and not pay you any mind. If there’s anything interesting about you—that he’ll later use as blackmail material—Jade will inform him.
It might take a while for you to get close enough to befriend Azul, but when you do, he’ll think about how much easier life is with you around. Because of your parental authority, the Leech twins seem to pay more heed to you than to him. It may be because Jade and Floyd want to annoy Azul or to mess with you, but Azul is grateful all the same. The Leeches are brats on their best days anyway, but he appreciates the clear head that you keep on your shoulders.
(Then again, Azul isn’t very surprised to find that Jade and Floyd have convinced you to wreak havoc on the poor students of Night Raven College. He’s also not surprised to find that the twins have tried making you “prank” him at least once. If you comply with the twins’ demands, Azul can’t exactly blame you. Those two have sought to make his life as interesting as possible and if that meant making a prospective new friend drag him into misadventures, then why not?)
That said, if you ever feel guilty, Azul will comfort you. And then recommend a way that you can make it up to him. (No, it doesn’t have to be a contract, but it would be nice to have you around to help! What do you say? Weren’t you feeling guilty earlier? Won’t you please help a poor unfortunate soul like him?)
It’s because of these circumstances that you and Azul become closer. You either end up helping out at Mostro Lounge out of your own free will (debatable) or you’ll wind up doing Azul’s bidding under a contract that you think are benefiting from….but not. If you ever tell Azul about your talent with the guitar, Azul will instantly think of ways to profit off your hobby.
(Unfortunately, he has to admit that guitars don’t contribute to the jazzy atmosphere that the Lounge provides, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want a private performance with you).
As you continue to work at Mostro Lounge, it feels less like working for Azul, but more like you’re working with Azul. During his quieter, introverted moments—times when he isn’t putting on a show to impress people—he’ll talk to you about whatever is bothering him on particular days, his reservations as a Housewarden, and his hopes and dreams for the future. Sometimes, he’ll look at you during those times, something unreadable in his eyes, before he’ll thank you for listening. It’s hard for Azul to accept good will from others so he’ll try and offer ways to pay you back for your kind and nurturing presence.
(Don’t you dare reject his offer, he will pester you and possibly ask the twins to get you to accept).
Some things that Azul appreciates about you is that he absolutely adores your piercings. He’ll never admit it, but most of the things he wears are because he wants others to realize that he is more than just the chubby crybaby from his past. Have you seen his glasses? He had spent almost two hours debating which frames would look best on his face and even now, he sometimes feels like he should get a new pair.
Back to the point, Azul is also a connoisseur of very shiny things. Have you seen his coin collection that he keeps in his room? (Please say you didn’t, that’s personal and he was hoping to show you one day when he becomes more comfortable with you). He loves your piercings and if you do some particularly huge favors for him, he will buy you special jewelry for your piercings, hoping that you would look good in them. (And you do, much to both of your pleasure).
If the both of you have the time, but don’t want to go outside of the Mostro Lounge, you can sit in his VIP room and read with him. Sometimes, you’ll engage in fascinating discussion about the literature you were reading (or possibly writing! please read to him, he likes your voice and wants to know what your innermost workings are like) or he’ll recommend some of Twisted Wonderland’s best works for you to enjoy. If not the Mostro Lounge, then Azul will happily take you to his favorite table in the library.
It’s hard to make Azul genuinely laugh. Whenever he expresses mirth, it’s usually at the expense of someone’s demise at the hands of his contracts or because of a social faux pas (again, at someone else’s expense). However, he must admit that your genuine attempts to make him happy are rather effective. In fact, it’s probably the fact that you can make him laugh cements your fate as his future lover. It’s when he realizes that you are selfless and willing to make him happy that he realizes that he might have found someone that he would like to share the rest of his life with you.
(Also! Please make food for Azul! He needs to eat and making food is somewhat of a love language for him considering that’s how his mother likes to show her love. So… This! Will! Make! Him! Happy! Do it!)
(Not that he’ll ever admit it, though. Despite his reservations concerning his weight, he’ll eat your food because you made it and he hopes that you never make fun of him for it).
Unfortunately, Azul can also relate to your struggle with social awkwardness and struggling with anxiety. He may display a facade of a slimy businessman, but he knows all too well what it’s like to be uncomfortable in your own skin. Even though he’s ten times as extraverted as you and loves meeting new people for business opportunities, he’ll gladly cut outings short if he sees you being miserable. He would rather lose out on contracts and bargains in his favor just so that you’ll smile again. (Of course, he’ll recommend techniques to help you with your anxiety, but at the end of the day, he’ll wrap you in his arms and take you back home to recuperate).
Overall, your relationship with Azul is a slow burn with a satisfying ending. While it may seem like your relationship is basically transactional, the longer you stay with Azul, the more he realizes that he wants to spoil you without the precedent of you doing something nice for him. Please accept him for who he is and he will move mountains for you.

HI IM WYATT!! 🫧🧼🐡
im like if a fish was a guy and it and yeah
Tumblr media
I'm nonbinary and a fan of soap. My personality develops at a normal human rate as well as my human mind. I'm a normal human age with a normal human life.
i like drawing! ✏️ check out #my art in the tags to see
Tumblr media
i won't post explicit NSFW (anything graphically sexual in nature or anything with extreme gore), but beyond that one rule, i do not limit what kinds of topics i post about on here. i will trigger tag the generally sensitive ones, however!
i do not engage in discourse and i go out of my way to avoid it. this also goes for any mean-spirited kind of content! let's be nice to each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
feel free to talk to me either thru my askbox or messages! i love meeting new people and talking to my friends despite how anxiety may influence my behavior to indicate otherwise! i just need time. a lot and a lot of time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
im a rampant lifelong selfshipper. been in the loving game for quite some time now. if you are an off-putting fictional character, youd best hope you dont cross paths with me.
OC x canon is one of my primary interests; i will probably post about it more often than not on here! if you have a common interest with a character i like, I'm more than okay with sharing! love for everyone Yay !! 🌞🌞🌈
I'm working on a fansite for character shrines but ummm its taking a while
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"What does this silly fuck even do?"
Dont fucking talk to me like that. I draw sometimes and try very hard to make art! Unfortunately, the brain I'm using is kind of stupid and broken and it doesn't do what I tell it to do. Working on getting a new one, but it's just not going according to plan.
As for what kind art I tend to make, I'm very experimental with my work! Expecting consistency from me is a bad idea. I get bored of the same ideas quickly and bounce around a ton. I LOOOVE character design and character writing in particular!! i have so many stories and concepts, you have no idea. Anything character/story-oriented is a major favorite subject of mine.
I'm hoping to get around to game development, web design, animation, music production, 3d stuff, and more! Just need to kind of kick myself to the finish line u know
"Wow what concepts do you have in mind"
too many and theyre all unfinished, but I'm planning on making a webcomic! I ambitiously wanted (and still do want) to take on several massive projects that I'm not able to accomplish in my current state, so I thought a comic i can create on my own time would be much easier and a good way to start the road to self discipline... we will see how that goes.
I'd go in depth explaining all of my stories and characters but it sounds like a bad idea to put those here. I'll make a website compiling all of the information about them eventually i promiiiisee
"What do you like"
My interests fluctuate so often that i generally can't fully pin one down as if it's consistently present.
There's hardly any pattern in what I gravitate towards, other than the single qualifier of whether the piece of work contains a token character for me to latch onto who is outwardly antagonistic and bitter towards everyone in the cast. Everything else is almost completely irrelevant in quantifying how much i will enjoy a thing.
"Did you hear about how they're sending frozen ants to mars just to see what will happen? Just letting them defrost there and crawl around, an isolated ant society. I don't know who's behind this. I heard it from a friend, but I don't think I believe them, because who would do that and why?"
It was me. I was the one sending them. Watch your back. Don't ask this again
"My head hurts."
My head heuts too
"also can i kill you and your family"
Sure

Shocking Discoveries in the Field of AI Fuckeries
I gave my views on the subject of AI-generated imagery long ago. It's incomparably cheaper to get into drawing or painting and much easier to find a job (and, unfortunately, get replaced by an Automated Kitsch Machine for bullshit private client jobs like D&D character portraits) in that field. Unlike music, there's no greedy faceless industry that stands between an artist and the audience and grabs most of the profit from distributing the works - even the big shots can run their own websites and social media profiles featuring their new pieces without anyone getting their panties in a bunch. And like I said, the music industry is a bunch of soulless parasites, so fuck them. It's not like they want AI music generators banned anyway.
Tumblr media
But, on to the main topic: Udio has a new feature where they want to know your opinion in exchange for generation credits. They give you two of their usual 30-second clips and ask which one you like better. And this gives an interesting insight about what people are trying to get out of this tech, because as opposed to image generators that are apparently about Asian girls with their tits out, there's an amazing variety of stuff going on here.
So, I'm a native Polish speaker, I speak English pretty well and I know some Russian, so I can figure out what's going on in songs in three languages. Of about ten I've heard. Yep, I heard English, Russian, probably all three major languages of the Far East (Japanese, Chinese and Korean), Spanish, probably Portuguese as well, French, some Scandinavian language (I can't tell them apart) and one song in Polish that was some really bad elementary-school diss track. So what I understood from the lyrics was that there's less silly stuff in them than I expected. For example, today I've heard some cute kind of silly song about a hare in Russian and a song name-dropping Tom Bombadil in the style of Enya, in English, but when it comes to hip-hop, for example, those people are going hard. I've heard pan-African themed lyrics in at least three of the clips, stereotypical gangsta stuff in others, so those guys aren't messing around.
But what's more important, I've heard stuff in a lot of genres. That Tom Bombadil song? It was going against an Irish folk ballad. Like, the typical daily-diddly-di-di stuff you've heard everywhere, particularly if you didn't want to. I've heard music halls and musicals, the Fifties, the Seventies, the Eighties, early garage punk, post-punk, obnoxious country rock like the one Udio threw at me when I first found it, eurodance that I remember from thirty years ago, modern k-pop, basically more genres than you can hear on the radio these days. And I'm talking what other people are doing, not my own Cringe Music Gala that already went through everything from the most cliche bluegrass possible to extreme blackened death metal.
Let me tell you something: a song starts with good lyrics, and good lyrics are harder to write than an image prompt. For example, I spent an entire fucking month on trying to paraphrase Minsc's lines from Baldur's Gate II to maintain a theme, make sense and rhyme on top of that. Starting with a chorus that went "Hamsters and rangers, rejoice! Everywhere in the world, your day has come! The space power is with you all, and evil fears you all day and night!" There's also a myriad of technical issues related to the random seed numbers that are the core of generative AI technology: sometimes you have lyrics that have a rhythm and rhyme, but the generator still fucks them up somehow, because all it's got is text. So, for example, you can hear that the lyrics are fairly sound, but the algorithm shit itself at the most inopportune moment. And I wish that Universal Music Group's corporate internal-use algorithm keeps shitting itself all the fucking time, not only in this way, but also by veering into the Minions-like babbling it still tends to do sometimes.
