#unfollowing someone on twitter because they were being annoying

Hmm, learnt via the "following/mutuals" icon in the activity that someone who was definitely a mutual a few months ago isn't anymore.
And it's chill. It's fine. But I'm also a people pleaser and a worrier and I just want to be loved.
#woes of emily#debated whether or not to make this post because it's truly pathetic lol#and it's probably posts just like this one that got me unfollowed#and we weren't like. close. but we'd definitely talked / tagged each other in stuff#do i unfollow? what's protocol here#makes me less sad than everyone who has deactivated though tbf#idk. I'm emotional today i guess#i don't mean this post to pressure anyone btw!!! truly do whatever you want i dont want to guilt anyone#this is just Tumblr lol#i remember. honestly probably 10+ years ago#unfollowing someone on twitter because they were being annoying#and then getting a notification from a bot being like#'list of people who unfollowed @twitteruser today!'#like. the person had set something up to auto track. and then tag/callout anyone who unfollowed them#and. even then. i thought. this is the cringiest most pathetic thing I've ever seen#trying to scare/embarrass people into not unfollowing you? get a grip

AITA for unfollowing someone on Twitter without warning?
Ok I know this is silly, it's low stakes but here goes.
I unexpectedly became fairly popular in a smallish fandom after some of my art was shared on Twitter. I don't like Twitter for fandom but it really boosted my audience so I joined up. I mostly stayed quiet over there because there was a lot of infighting and I just generally didn't feel "safe". It felt like if I expressed any opinions at all I'd run the risk of being cancelled. So I'd post my work and periodically engage but I didn't really make friends.
There was this one poster who had gotten pretty big in the fandom on Twitter. We interacted through DMs a few times. We were friendly but I wouldn't say we were friends. I didn't get very personal with them. I liked some of the things they made, but they were younger than me and I didn't really match their vibe.
This person was involved in some things that I personally found distasteful, but weren't exactly wrong. I won't go into specifics but it was fairly low stakes "rude" behavior that I just didn't like. I didn't feel like I should "call them out", first because we weren't really close and second because none of it was really that bad. I try to be a live and let live sort of person.
I've been on Tumblr for a long time and before the update that shows you in notifications if someone is your mutual, following/unfollowing wasn't that big a deal here. It was basically impossible to tell if a specific person had unfollowed you and me and most of the people I know here pretty much ignored Tumblr follow counts and never paid attention to who was coming and going.
This person on Twitter was starting to annoy me every time I saw their icon on my TL. again, they hadn't done anything "wrong", I just wasn't vibing.
So I unfollowed them. I just didn't want to see their stuff anymore.
They immediately noticed and posted about how nasty it was to unfollow someone without telling them why (Twitter showed me their posts about it bc someone else I follow was replying to them) and how I could have at least softblocked them and how it was a misuse of my influence as a BNF (which I never thought I was or claimed to be).
I didn't know what softblocking was I didn't know I could mute somebody. I thought it was just follow or unfollow and I thought they'd never notice.
I saw that they were upset but I felt going to their DMs to say that I unfollowed because I didn't like their vibe would be more upsetting than just leaving it alone. They clearly disagreed.
So AITA for unfollowing and not saying why?
What are these acronyms?

different anon but it was the original one, they changed their @ to landoslut because they sort of left the QSMP community after being called out and canceled by Roier's community for xenophobia and for getting mad at him for still following Forever and not talking about serious things.
Roier brief cancellation and Minor update on the Forever situation part 1
Section 1
Retweet or you don't care!
Hey guys so I went checking out what the first anon said and they eventually sent a link to the account thankfully. However the original anon seemed a tad bit confused because that account didn't leave Twitter because of the forever situation but because they attempted to "cancel" Roier and failed.
I say cancel for a lack of better words. As I stated before the qsmp fandom has become incredibly political, A lot of people have started using the fandom to spread free Palestine content viva fan art and charities, most content creators of the fandom have share their support in their own ways.
One of the most common ways was retweeting the ricarhdlyson update accounts tweet the reason being it proved a lists of charities and institutions as well as pages for supporting Palestine its well made.
It is important to note, I don't believe this account is run by an admin it's not the same as the qsmp updates account, it seems to be fan run, it seems.
Non the less it's a good thread with a lot of information, and a lot of ccs retweet! Except for a few and Roier was in that few.
(Now in my humble opinion, who cares? Its great when someone supports the movement but I can't see myself annoyed that a creator didn't do the same, frankly I was completely unaware if Phil was even doing the strike and he's my main and I didn't let it brother me.
For all I know He could have donated in private or done other things to help the movement!)
The reaction to Roier not doing however this was incredible extreme and Unnecessary; they border on canceling the man for one tweet that was circulating when he was sick and possibly just wasn't online.
The main accounts that were supporting the cancelling were two accounts, the first one Cellegerha is an activist account that is ran by a fan of the qsmp.
The second is Kerol, yes that Kerol, the same one who exposed Forever without checking with the victim first.
I will bring these account back up in detail in the next section but observe the following.
Translation:
1) follow no forever (following Forever) I let it pass, he doesn't like controversy, I took it, but it's time to stay on the fence, right? it's such an important subject and you're silent vsf
3)gee, poor white man who will be affected there in the comfort of his home while innocent children are dying.
4) 🐰: shame on you for forcing a sick kid to come forward when he could get hurt in all this.
Kerol: last thing I'm going to say about roier for today: he has to lose this fear of being canceled, of being "ain if you get into a fight, if you say this or that you're not part of my community", with all this fear he disappoints the people who care about him and enjoy his content.
Retweet to prove Kerol said these things
Celleghera
They also had a private account where they express similar feelings.
i saw some cellboier clips today on mine
(two) and I think I'm getting to like roier again and the problem was his absence and the community
I think if it's up to twitter
never touch guapoduo and roier again.
roier It's taking away all the enthusiasm I was BEGINNING to have.
Now here's the effect of this.
1: I removed everything that involved Roier from my profile, if he decides to keep quiet I will just drop him
2: This is not only for Roier but to Quackity as well, he is other that never get Forever "unf" (unfollow), he let the man announce that was being removed from the QSMP and now this arg (I think they meant argument/discussion) is happening in the strikes week
STAY TUNE FOR PART TWO

Thanks for sharing and confirming that my instincts were right. I always tend to trust my gut feelings about people but sometimes I wonder if I should. Well, once again, it seems that I, indeed, should. Now I have to be honest, I never gave much credit to wsj, I ended up unfollowing cause I wasn’t interested in her posts anymore at some point, I really don’t trust people claiming they know stuff about celebrities and posting it on the internet, everybody can pretend to be xyz, unless there’s some solid proof I chose to remain skeptical (I did see a few stuff, tough nothing groundbreaking, from the k-side that I trust though, so maybe she was right). That being said, it’s Tumblr, it’s more private that Twitter, we’re a smaller community, so I don’t see any harm in people sharing what they want to share on their own blog. Just move on and ignore if you don’t like. The campaign against her and other bloggers was disgusting. Let ppl speak on their own tiny corner ffs, if don’t agree you can expose your arguments, have a discussion or unfollow and block. As long as they don’t cross a line I don’t see the problem. I’m seriously done with the holier than thou woke bs attitude. It’s all about virtue signaling these days, showing how you’re so much better and morally pure, and you know everything better than the rest of the plague… give me a break. Also the discussion around jealousy and constant dismissing of k-army and korean dating culture was quite something… because as someone who comes from a country where the dating culture differs a lot with the American/western perspective, where a drop of jealousy and possessivity is considered as a normal display of affection - I’m not talking about excessive and toxic behavior obviously!! - the blatant ignorance and constant undermining of korean dating culture that is quite similar to mine in that regard really annoyed. me. so. freaking. much. It’s deemed as a big no-no in your culture, okay, I get it, but you’re not better than us who thinks that in many cases it’s not that big of deal and, in Jikook case, was quite revealing in the past. Sorry I’m going all over the place, I’ll shut up now!
Ha ha haaa... no, dont even worry about it. Its fine. Thing is though, the Jeonlous/Jimlous thing IS indeed quite exergerrated. Most of the compilations are rubbish. And I can see why most people hate it. Including Regina George. I get that. But it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Especially in the case of other people who are not members. My mind immediately goes to the Sean Mendez interaction. 🤭🤭🤭
(TT is accurate has not been manipulated in any way)
JK almost bulldozed RM and downright ignored him in his rush to get to Jimin. It's actually hilarious 😂😂 Now this can be classified as jealousy. But when it comes to members I don't think that's what that is at all. Annoyance, Irritation, maybe? because he can't do to Jimin what others can. But definitely not jealousy. Either way whatever it is, it happens and denying it is stupid.
As for WSJ I don't see why the notion that an Army personally knows BTS is so hard to believe. Normal people know celebrities all the time. That being said, my issue with everyone who went after her was the hypocrisy. WSJ was very careful not to tell us anything incriminating. And everything else she ever said were things we already knew.
-Jikook is real
-Jikook live together
-Vminkook have issues
Etcetera, Etcetera. These are things we already know. She was just confirming. And she wasn't even worse than us Jikookers. And i said as much to Stormie when she made that shady post. We are the ones talking about Jikook 18+ moments and posting about them. So anyone thinking they have a leg to stand on are being hypocrites. 🖕🏽

Hi BPP! Just wanted to ask how you’d do things if you were in my position. So my situation is very specific and I really don’t know my place in ARMY spaces. Here’s why:
1. My favorite dynamic among all bangtan pairings is definitely yoonmin. The constant bickering just makes me laugh so much and wish for more. I absolutely love how they just constantly challenge each other.
2. My biases are vmin. I resonate the most with Jimin. His existence makes me cry. I am in love with Tae. Everything about him makes me melt. Jimin is my person; Tae is the love of my life.
3. Lastly, I think jikook are dating…? I don’t actively seek their moments so I’m not really a shipper, I think. If anything, I’d be more of a yoonmin/vmin shipper because it’s their moments I look out for. But jikook is the one pair I keep side-eyeing because their interactions just bring out a lot of question marks in me. They have weeeeird energy, idk it’s hard to explain. How I feel is like how Seokjin reacted when Jimin was explaining the hickey (????) thing.
So to summarize, yoonmin gives me butterflies. vmin gives me a double serotonin boost. jikook makes me release an exasperated but endearing sigh (I say endearing because they’ve still become my top 3, not bcs of their dynamic—too cheesy for me lol—but bcs it seems they make each other the happiest).
Having mentioned all that, I find it really hard to express myself in ARMY member x member spaces (mostly on twitter).
Among yoonmin lovers, there’s a subgroup consisting of toxic taekookers hating on Jimin. Among jikook lovers, there’s a subgroup of toxic jikookers passive-aggressively hating on Tae.
I feel like I’m relatively safer among vminies in terms of interacting with genuine OT7 fans. BUT a chunk of vminies seem to have this annoying superiority complex over other shippers. A lot can’t even fathom shipping vmin romantically. Some of them sound almost homophobic, “u can’t assume they’re gay unless…” and it irks me especially as a queer person.
The thing is I prefer ship-focused spaces because the general non-shipping part of the fandom has the biggest superiority complex against pairing two people together. And they don’t seem to be genuinely open about the idea of the boys actually being queer. And I just don’t like that.
But it’s just so frustrating to not be able to express my love for my favorite duos without having to do it in separate accounts. And I still don’t feel safe even then, because I’m also second-guessing my audience, “u sure u really love jimin?” “u sure u aren’t token-stanning jungkook?” “u sure u aren’t token-shipping vmin?” “u sure u’re okay with them actually being queer?”
Sorry, you don’t really have to answer. Idk where I was going with this. I just like the thought of this reaching someone.

Hi Anon,
I've got a few more asks in my inbox like yours, and I recall answering an ask very similar to this almost two years ago - all that to say, I get why you feel your situation might be unique to you and it feels isolating, but ARMY is a huge fandom and I promise you, whatever you're dealing with someone else has gone through before and found their tribe, for better or worse.
There's nothing more to it than curating your space. Someone doesn't think you like Jimin enough despite him being your bias? Unfollow and/or block them. A joker is being obnoxious with their hate boner for Tae? Hasta la vista. And so on. If you don't know these people enough to have a conversation around points of confusion or disagreement, why exactly should you hesitate to prune your online habitat? There's no shortcut to curating your space - you just have to lean into the people whose values align with yours, and cut off the dead weight.
Hopefully that should offer you some comfort.
One more thing I'll tell you now that I told those people then who have asked similar asks before:
If you're the sort of person who is sensitive to how other people think or what they say, being in any big fandom will be a very difficult experience for you. Anyone who is looking for a safe space in fandom is looking in the wrong place. You will always come across weirdos, people who lack basically every literacy skill, conspiracy theorists, and high conflict personalities who think everyone's talking about them or that they're the only people brave enough to obsess over 'taboo' topics. It's enough for you to identify these sorts of people when you come across them, determine for yourself if their values align with yours, if they base their actions in fact and respect for the guys, and act in whatever way that maximizes your peace of mind. It could be a slow process, but with practice you'll get it. Taking frequent breaks and making ARMY friendships offline could help too.
I liked reading your ask because you seem to already have a clear idea of what you like, what you think, and why, but you don't seem like a very assertive person so what I would do might not be practical for you. So I hope all the above are better options for you.
Good luck. 💜

Welcome back. Took me a few secs there, haha, with the blog name changed.
Were you still following everything or did you completely detach from kpop while you were away? Just curious.
Hmmm, this is complicated, but I guess being honest about it will do more good than acting detached. Which used to be my spiel back in the BMT days. Not that I was pretending to be someone who I'm not, but a lot of the stuff I wrote and especially how I did was the result of filtering my emotions and reactions through a rational lens. I do that in my day to day life as well, so it's an actual problem, not only the way I present myself as fandom participant.
My initial plan was complete detachment because I ended up hating it. For so many reasons that I don't even remember all of them now. I really wanted a clean slate, but it's not as easy as I thought. I went back to my old blog which consisted mostly of the stuff I reblog now here with the films and pretty photos. I also unfollowed all the fandom-related accounts on twitter. And I tried to go back to my other passions, especially film. And reading some literature instead of wasting hours on a blog. It worked. Until it didn't. Because complete detachment is hard. Like I said in my first post after coming back, giving up smoking was easier. This is another type of addiction. Yes, it is. Is it shameful to admit that? I don't know, but I also don't care much about it and what others think of me based on this.
I closed the blog the day Jimin released Face, but I told myself I would still follow his promotions. And that I can follow one or two Jimin update accounts on twitter and that's it. But it was never just that. Because I still heard stuff here and there and my stupid curiosity got the worst of me and I would look it up and then I'd see opinions. Which is the worst when you try and stay from discourse. And then I would unfollow everything. And then I would go back to it a week, two weeks later. A constant cicle. Which annoyed me to bits. I was angry with myself because I thought I had no will. And it seems so silly in the grand scheme of things, when stuff in my personal life was a lot more important. Perhaps one issue was me always trying to dismiss my participation and contribution to the fandom as something frivolous when it was not. I dedicated time to it for the wrong and good reasons as well.
Tumblr was even worse than twitter. I would check some tags, block accounts that would annoy me and then I would log out. I'd get back to it and look up my blocked list and go through it. As an act of self hate? I don't know, but it was like I wanted to get angry. I was chasing that feeling. All the while telling myself that I don't want to have anything to do with it anymore.
Do I have a problem? Most likely. I know I never had these issues before, but this is the result of my first direct involvement in a fandom and also happening during a period of my life in which a lot of things have changed. And I'm trying to deal with all that and one way of doing it is by focusing on the objects of my interest. I'm still trying to find the answers, solutions, a more healthy way. Rebranding the blog by making it more diverse is one attempt.

Loyalty is continuing to follow someone on tumblr even when they introduce a new hyperfixation to the dashboard. You go, girl! I don’t remember why I followed you in the first place but I ain’t about to stop now.
#on occasion I wearily add their tags to my block list#meanwhile I followed someone in the last couple of months and quickly unfollowed because they were being annoying with their friends#it's like stopping by the living room to see what everyone's chatting about and turning around because it's all inside jokes#then heading back to the kitchen where the OTHER people are ALSO just talking in inside jokes#but it's ok because at least this is familiar even if I have no idea what they're talking about#truly the best social media#I left Twitter because no matter how hard I tried I was still forced to see things I didn't want to see#that stupid sidebar wore me down and drove me out#and I HATE the posts that are all 'here's something the person you followed liked'#I'm not following them for their likes I'm following them for their tweets#or WORSE:#'here's content that's similar to the sort of content you're already following'#dear little blue bird: if I wanted that content I would have subscribed already#I'm here for chicken alfredo not quail and stinky French cheese#mine#I ain't no quitter#@ all of the guys I follow or who follow me: sorry#my brain only registers the feminine waves on this website#greatest hits

Hi Allie! I saw that someone sent you a link about people unfollowing HSHQ and posting the hashtag #FREEHARRY. I understand that this is a movement only happening on twitter so it’s okay if u don’t wanna talk about. But I genuinely curious to understand why people would do that and what’s your opinion
Hi, anon. How are you?
First of all, and let's get this out of the way first, what bothers me with these twitter things being dragged over to tumblr is the fact people need to understand how the constant back and forth is toxic. If you don't like something twitter is saying, just don't go there, unfollow people. It's that simple. I really don't want to know if you're bothered with it because I rarely even go there, and when I do, is to exclusively see things on my timeline - where I only follow some really nice people. So "hahaha look what twarries are saying" that's annoying, I don't care.
About this situation against HSHQ, I think that's definitely worth it being discussed and it goes way beyond twarries. Just a quick overview for those who are not aware: There's this big movement right now, where people are trending #UnfollowHSHQ #FreeHarry and asking for people to stop buying tickets, Pleasing products, merch.. or anything related to Harry, because they believe Full Stop Management is holding Harry hostage or something and they want to sabotage them in order to "free" Harry. I think HSHQ lost around 10k followers on twitter so far.
Personally, I do understand where this is coming from and I understand there's a real concern and good intentions there. Especially when we're talking about everything that happened with One Direction, Modest, Syco, his closeting... I mean, there's obviously a history of abuse and oppression. And I don't think that's over, it's so much bigger than Harry and his current management, it's the entire industry and some really greedy people out there in charge of big labels.
But I think it's easier when we try to define things as the good side and the bad side, seeing Jeff as a villain is oversimplifying things. Is dismissing Harry's own participation in it. Do I like Jeff? No. Do I think he's pointing a gun at Harry's head and making him do things he doesn't want to? No. I'm sorry but there's literally no indication Harry is actually being forced by his management to do stuff. *Strongly* advised? Probably. He seems good friends with Jeff and I fully believe Harry has his own interests when it comes to the stunts and everything else, and he is able to speak up about it, although he's probably not in full control of it (like most artists that are as profitable as he is). Comparing what is happening to Harry right now to Britney's situation is absurd to me. Especially because of who people are trying to blame here.
So yes I do think HSHQ needs to wake the fuck up, they made an awful mistake with Holivia. And they do need to act in Harry's best interestest from now on because they're truly messing things up and it's concerning. But I don't think fans wanting to sabotage it is the right move. Because, clearly, I don't agree with a lot of moves on his career right now but I believe him and believe he is a good person and that things are happening for a reason behind the scenes and he's making the right choices for him (maybe not right now but in a long-run, god knows what were the other choices). I don't need to take away all of his responsibility of everything to still be on his side. It's okay to be bothered and to not agree on stuff your favourite does. And I think people really need to stop and think about what they're implying when they want to sabotage so many things about Harry. I mean, they don't like anything, they don't agree with anything... So does it still make sense to be a fan? Maybe they should just move on.

For the Salty Ask List thing, 1-27. Orrr just 5, 10, 19, aaand 26 & 27?? uwu
What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
what otp's do I get is the question really? but the big three I'm just not feeling are brittana, blam and faberry
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
blam blam blam
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
no?? I don't think so?? although I was mutuals with someone on Tumblr and twitter but I blocked them, but that wasn't so much a difference in an opinion as it was they were disrespectful to my opinion but they were really backhanded and were trying to act like they were being reasonable about it.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
I mean brittana, I'm sorry but it's not even that they're 'toxic' or 'problematic' like I'd be able to get over their shitty moments if it didn't feel like I was watching a child and a babysitter who occasionally talked about scissoring
also fabrevans are a monstrosity to society and I guess they're semi popular lol.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*
blam and faberry, not that I particularly liked them before but they did not get on my tits as much before I entered the fandom
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*
naur
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*
I guess I technically used to like brittany and fabrevans, but I was 11 years old when I first saw them and I don't trust an opinion I had before 2017
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?*
yeah,,, what haven't I got anon hate on.. I got called whiny and annoying, both true statements but a bit rude.. someone victimised me one day in the good year of 2021 and it honestly traumatised me and I don't want to talk about that, I've got hate for not liking brittany/brittana, for not shipping blaine with sam, I got called a misogynist for only talking bad on female characters and cast members
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
Brittany Pierce, Shelby Corcoran and Sebastian Smythe because there's literally nothing I find significantly redeemable about any of them, like other characters get on my tits but there's still some enjoyable aspects to them, but for these? I got nothing.
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
Santana in season 6 because what a fucking downgrade, her career storyline is down the toilet and her friendships are all thrown away just reduce her entire personality to br*ttany, even if I actually liked brittany/brittana that would still be a dog shit storyline, but I don't so it's worse than it already is.
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
my gal Rachel Berry, she's an interesting character and I find her actions so over the top that they swing around from annoying to ridiculous and entertaining
12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
blaine cheating, I don't love this arc but I think it makes sense for his character and his progression in a lot of ways
13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
no character was specified so I'll just say, kitty was a good character
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
they need to let go of the unholy trinity, they are not a good friendship they are a group of colleagues at best
15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
season 4 & 5B >>> season 3
16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
honestly, less focus on the popular group and more focus on the 'outcasts' and their friendship, like Quinn/Finn/puck and their whole baby drama would be a minor storyline with the focus mainly being on Mercedes/Kurt/Artie/Tina/Rachel (ik Rachel did get a lot of focus but less finn romance/Quinn frenemyship and more nerdy friendships with the other outcasts)
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
idk bro instead of brittany being a sad little lamb about kurt getting mad at her and kurt getting completely villanised over getting mad about the unicorn posters I would have brittany realise she was wrong and show maybe even a small ounce of reflection (I know I'm reaching for the sky with this)
18. Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?
we're all biased and that's fine, the 'denial' point is just stupid, like wow the couple you personally enjoy and view as perfect angels aren't universally adored? people just aren't willing to accept you as the overlord of everyone's opinions.
19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
probably everything outside of Tumblr honestly, mainly just how it's sacrilege to take issue with certain things (santana, Quinn, brittany, brittana, the unholy trinity) but then fans who complain about ppl who don't ass kiss for those said things but make the same points about other things and don't see the hypocrisy
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
idk, if you ignore artie being sexist to tina they're mostly just two buddies being buds. if we we're talking about purest ships we have slim pickings here (not that I care bc most 'pure' ships are high key boring honestly)
21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?
if we're talking about the actual crackships, kittina and blartie core then I'm all for it, but when it's a popular pairing that just happened to not date in canon, blam and faberry core, get out of my house.
22. Popular character you hate?
fucking brittany man, also Sebastian.
23. Unpopular character you love?
Rachel Berry, I also like artie although I don't feel as strongly about him (but he's a million times better than brittany and Sebastian who get obsessed over I'll tell you that)
24. Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not?
I wouldn't recommend anything to a friend really
25. How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?
the best place to end glee would have either been the end 100th episode special or the end of season 5, that or season 6 needed a massive fucking overhaul
26. Most shippable character?
truthfully artie does have chemistry with most people, and virtually everyone of his pairings are niche and away from the general glee fandom which I love.
27. Least shippable character?
brittany, on the basis that I just don't like her and don't want her near any character I actually like

Annabeth is a good person, but not a nice or pleasant one,IMO.
YES.
That’s it. That’s the post. Pack it up everybody, we just cracked the case and cleared up one of the most compelling fights in the PJO fandom since forever. Good job everybody, clap it out and there’s the door! Don’t forget ordering the drinks at Starbucks, Mitch! They’re on me!
Okay, but on a more serious note: YES. YES EXACTLY.
And before some of you roll your eyes or grab your pitchforks – put your biases aside and hear me out for once. I like Annabeth. She’s my in my top three characters only second to Percy himself. I love Percabeth. It’s my favorite ship in the entire series and to be frank, the only ship that I care about PJO wise. Hell, I spend my time creating my own headcanons or writing my own fanfics with Percabeth being the star in them.
But that is not to say that I’m unable to see how certain things have developed over the years or where they stand now in regard to Annabeth. I’m not here to ignore things that have been said and/or done due to or in the name of Annabeth and I’m not here to vilify anyone that doesn’t like her. And I’m here to admit that I’m guilty of some of the things that may be addressed in this meta essay that you will read in just a second. However, I try my best to assure you, that I’m for once able to recognize my own bias.
Warning: a monster essay lies right upon you.
This should count as a paper of its own.
Back to the statement on top: I would go out even further to reframe your claim, anon:
Annabeth Chase is a good character but not a nice or pleasant person.
Annabeth is a wonderful character but she isn’t a nice one. Or at least not nice to everyone. She is (construction wise if I dare say) the best character out of the series. She has her positive traits (she’s caring, she’s emotional, she’s encouraged and volunteers, she fights for what she believes in, she forgives (even if doing so begrudgingly)) but she also has her negative traits (she’s stubborn, she’s brash, changing her mind takes forever, she is prejudiced, she baits others). That balances things out. She is branded as the intelligent kid but does irrational things (like I’ve just said a) she’s a kid and b) she’s not a robot). She should probably know better, but we all make mistakes and hopefully grow and learn from them. The clouds in the sky do blur and cover our visions sometimes.
Annabeth had clashes with other characters or was about to have fights due to her stubbornness or jealousy (Rachel, Reyna, etc.) and has of course her problems with the mortal world and her family but she also found new friends, some things cleared up throughout the narration and she was/is quite popular in Camp Half-Blood.
The thing is: she doesn’t have to be nice or pleasant (as a character). Or at least not all the time. Her character is humanized. That is what or who she is. Human. She does stand out as a character, not just because she’s the (future) love interest. She feels like someone you could meet in real life and either adore from the top to the bottom or declare as your biggest enemy. And that’s totally okay if you lean either way – liking or disliking her. Or even feeling indifferent about her. Also great!
To say that she has been the best character that Riordan has crafted is easy to say, because she has been sculpted after Riordan’s wife. He had a model he could rub some of real-life events or traits on. That’s not the problem. The problem truly doesn’t lie on Riordan’s side for the most part for once.
The problem is inherently on the fandom’s side. What the fandom does, how it acts and how it treats Annabeth as a character is the problem. The problems vary but it’s mostly the mischaracterization of Annabeth, starting fights and fan/ship wars, internalized misogyny (in some cases) and how some of the Annabeth stans lash out (ha, got firsthand experience in that field among many of my friends and mutuals!). There is a reason why many people are wary of people that have Annabeth or Percabeth related URLs.
The fact that we see Annabeth mostly through Percy’s lens and (until the Heroes of Olympus saga hits) we never really see her in chill everyday situations is essentially Riordan leaving the back door of the house open, ready for all of you asshats to rob his mansion in Boston. Because a frame on a character means that we don’t get to see the character in its entirety (unlike we do with Percy in PJO for the most part). That means a bunch of stuff is left open for interpretation which is the reason why Annabeth gets so many polarized headcanon and opinions tossed around. I think that is one of the true appeals of Annabeth. You can add on stuff and it necessarily doesn’t have to contradict itself.
We have people calling her abusive due to a (n admittedly stupid and unnecessary) judo flip and we have people that act like she’s never done anything wrong. People sorta use this excuse to form and shape Annabeth however they want and distort her characterization.
People in the fandom act like Annabeth is some weird prized possession. We perceive Annabeth mostly through the eyes of others (Percy, Apollo, etc.) and when we had some sort of insight in her ways (MOA, HOH) it felt… weird? Somewhat? Like Riordan left two bullet points of her characterization and told the ghostwriter: aight, fuck it up, gringo, see you on Tuesday and greet Fred the next time you see him for me.
There have been many posts lately (by Tharini, Simi, Sawasawako, Jewishpercy and Annie I believe?) that HOO Percabeth felt weird. That they felt weirdly constructed, that there was no conflict, no growth. It felt stagnating, like we’re turning back. We had five books prior where we had Annabeth and Percy slowly shifting from disliking to liking and crushing each other. True development. And when we finally got the cake it felt… dissatisfying. Like the cheap box stuff and not the delicious exquisite taste that we were promised.
I said it previously in my Percabeth ship roast, but let me repeat myself: many Percabeth related things are straight up fanon. Some of it is very old fanon so that’s been unable to distinguish unless you’ve read the books recently and subtract nearly 99,9% of things you see on Tumblr (and occasionally the other shitty parts of the fandom like Reddit, IG, Twitter. Although they mostly steal and recycle tumblr stuff oh well. But back to the topic).
The way people treat Annabeth is so strange. She’s either an innocent fluffy smush baby that’s never harmed a fly and all that she wants for Christmas is being Percy’s lapdog or she’s the devil incarnate, broke into your house, killed your parents Batman style, kicked your puppy and didn’t flush the toilet on the way out. I think this is what mostly makes people hate her or the ship Percabeth. And both extremes are wrong and right at the same time? She is multifaceted so both stereotypes are true and untrue and sorta cancel each other out in the same way.
The true reason why people dislike Annabeth is because the stans are doing the most. (The haters as well, don’t get me wrong, but oh boy. Piss of a stan and you’ll know what I mean). That isn’t inherently new. Are you guys old enough to remember the ship wars that have happened cross platform? Perachel vs. Percabeth? Oh boy, oh boy. I saw some kids on tumblr a few months ago trying to infiltrate both tags and start shit (and also fail). The fact that Rachel still gets used as the bitchy (ex) girlfriend in fanfics? It’s 2020 guys. I know this apocalyptic year is far from perfect and over but I think we can let this trope die, right? Right? I thought we’ve established that Rachel is a pretty chill charcter by now… right?
If you posted your stuff on FFN back in 2010-2013 and it wasn’t the typical cutesy Percabeth story (Goode High, the gods read TLT, punk/prep Percabeth, college AU, etc.) people would’ve come for your fucking throat. Not because the story or the narration was shit. But because the pairing wasn’t Annabeth and Percy (in the sense that Annabeth had to be paired with Percy. I mean Percy gets shipped with everyone and their mother but for Annabeth it was strictly Percy. As annoying as this whole Connabeth thing is – the people behind it actually had a point. She never had a different love interest unless it’s a Percy centered story and he goes off dating Athena, Artemis and Zoe at the same time for some odd reason. Yeah, FFN Percy ships are something). Or it wasn’t the action filled canon compliant story or it wasn’t an AU that was popular.
People were really stubborn, snobbish and wanted their stuff in the four five boxes that were the most popular ones and that’s it. People have been bullied off the site in many fandoms, so it’s not a PJO-only thing but it’s still sad that it happened. (Off-note: most of these FFN tropes are still alive and well and thriving on AO3. Don’t be so snobbish and pretend that every piece you’d find there is a holy grail. There’s a lot of trash you have to waddle through. Same with Wattpad, Tumblr or anywhere else where fanfics get posted. Also had this discussion with Annabeth stans. Sigh).
And Tumblr back then? Forget it, wasn’t much better.
That view has sorta changed (at least for people that have been in the fandom for several years or have managed to find a way to navigate through it) but some of the negative sentiment from back in the day has survived. Be it by new fans coming in or from old fans that never let their stance die. The aggression feels differently and somewhat not. (I don’t know if the anon function had been abused that much back in the day. I was an observer not a participant in the fandom).
Crack a joke at Annabeth’s expense (Kal’s famous “Annabeth is a Republican” post or Dee Dee’s and many others “Annabeth has the education of a second grader, chill with the college plans, girlie” stance) and you have people insulting you, making callout posts, unfollowing and blocking you (based on only that? Okay, honey), making aggressive counter-posts, etc. in a minute. If you respond with “It’s a joke, it’s not real” you have a 50/50 chance of either getting blown off or embarrassing them so that they apologize for once.
This isn’t just about jokes. You can make a headcanon that’s not the cozy cute convenient mainstream saga and people would react the same way. Or art piece (no, not including the whole Tannabeth Blackchase shtick done by Viria and others) or fanfics.
People project so much onto the unfinished canvas that is Annabeth Chase that any form of negative sentiment as little as someone not liking her to straight up criticism, regardless of how tiny it may be, seems like an affront. Like an invitation to a fight. Like an insult to them, their character, everything they believe in. Let me state something:
You are NOT Annabeth Chase. Annabeth Chase IS NOT you. Annabeth Chase is NOT real. Her feeling cannot be hurt. Someone criticizing, disliking, joking about her or even insulting her will not bother her. Someone making a statement about her is not an insult to YOU.
Let me repeat that:
Annabeth Chase isn’t real. Annabeth Chase isn’t you.
So think a little before you act? I get it when you’re a kid and new to fandoms or haven’t been up with fan cultures in the past and are back in the scene. But if you’re in your late teens or even older as an adult and you’re unable to understand that you aren’t what you like – you aren’t the extension of a fictional character – I feel incredibly sorry for you. Because that’s just incredibly sad. Someone disliking something you like isn’t an attack of your character. It shows you that you are you and the other person is a human just like you. That they just have different taste. Disliking something you like isn’t a crime, you know? But me feeling sorry for the way some of y’all act won’t mean that that’s even remotely okay. Especially if you’re no longer in the intended audience for PJO age wise and should know better.
This isn’t a “white stans” only thing. I’ve seen and witnessed firsthand how people of color, mainly women of color, act the same or not even worse when it comes to her character. People have projected their problems and real-life occurring events into her character (I’m sure that she isn’t the only character nor that this is the only fandom where this is happening) and in some cases like I’ve said cannot separate their own personality from the fictional world. Fights with woc happened because of Annabeth fucking Chase. So many things have happened in the fandom the past few months, mostly due to people being forced staying at home because of the quarantine but I’d say it’s 10% on quarantine and 90% on people for acting up like this.
So here’s a little story: There was the act of Riordan blowing the fandom up because of his own stupidity and being unable to apologize for his mischaracterization and lack of research (the whole Piper fiasco) back in June (?) and admits the upset fandom, people on Twitter, Tumblr and Discord legit thought that none of that mattered and that the outcry was destroying Annabeth Chase’s birthday. That’s right. People thought that Annabeth Chase’s non-existing birthday because she’s a fictional character had a higher priority than the rupture and prevalent racism in the fandom. Okay. This isn’t a great look, Annabeth stans. And this of course pissed a lot of people off. I made a post about it and someone not only berated three other people on said post but no, we had a mighty argument which had disrupted many friendships in our circle which haven’t recovered until this very day. We both had our parts in it and no one is innocent. But the cause of this still remains Annabeth Chase or how people prioritize her non-existing well-being. Anyway. I’m getting agitated just thinking about it.
Let’s go back to the characterization thing with Annabeth. Let me remind you:
Annabeth Chase is an asshole. There I’ve said it in a post ages ago (too lazy to look it up, sorry) and I’ll say it again. And that’s not me insulting her. That’s me actually loving that about her. Annabeth is one of the very few unapologetic female characters that really showed all young readers across the world that you can be a girl, a badass, smart, strong, standing up for yourself and what you believe in. You don’t have to be nice. You don’t have to hide your feelings. You don’t need a man in all cases but it’s also okay to accept help and defeat.
A large reason why I think she’s an incredibly important character in children’s literature/YA because many other novels (mostly (sadly)) have the “Oh, I’m a white skinny dark-haired girl that likes unconventional things like READING. I’m not like the other girls, that take care of themselves and pamper themselves by enjoying shopping and wearing make-up. No, I’d rather be one of the boys but a sweet cute little boy and not the jock fuck that drank vodka shots out of a filthy shoe once. Despite me calling myself hideous every man in a 10-kilometer radius falls in love with me and tells me I’m oh so sexy and by the way I’m only 16 years old” shit going on for no goddamn reason.
Yes, I do blame Twilight for this mostly in recent years, but this trope isn’t by any means knew. Pretty sure that you could even use classics as Pride and Prejudice and dissect them in the same manner (Bold statement: Lizzy Bennet is the OG Bella Swan. There. Go fight somewhere in the corner, people). The new wave of YA focuses on girls belittling themselves and only starting to believe in themselves because someone else (mostly the male love interest) tells them they’re worth it. And these books hit the mainstream because they’re incredibly bland and picture perfect white.
With Annabeth it’s different. She shows up for the job and is done with it. (Brie Larson would probably be the perfect in real life version of her. You either like or dislike her. Or you really don’t care). That is what is so refreshing about her. Her unapologetic nature. Can it be off-putting? Yes. Is it annoying? Yes! Hell, every time I read The Lightning Thief, I want to rip her goddamn head off. And it’s just so well written. Her shift from mistrusting Percy but secretly still believing in him to her opening up. Wow, Riordan did something right there.
Annabeth Chase isn’t a young character. She has existed along with PJO for 15 years. She’s on her way to the second decade. I’m pretty sure that with the success of Percy Jackson (and Harry Potter) many lives have been warped and shaped.
But when I say the problem lies mostly in the fandom, it doesn’t mean that Riordan’s completely innocent. The only problem that I have with Annabeth lies not truly with her but the fact that Riordan is only able to produce three variations of female characters:
The sweetheart (Hazel, Silena, Calypso, Hestia)
The strong feminist (Annabeth, Piper, Thalia, Reyna, Artemis)
The bitch (Drew, nearly every female goddess in the goddamn Riordanverse next to every female monster)
And these female characters only know three endings:
End up married with a mortgage, three kids, two dogs and a cat somewhere in Connecticut by the age of twelve
Get dumped into the hunt
Chill on Mount Olympus and only come down to be a nuisance and/or give a cryptic message before going back and doing a godly rave party or something
We know Annabeth as the badass strong female first (or the bitchy character we’re supposed to actually like. Choose your approach), the blueprint so to speak, so some of the other characters feel almost pale in comparison and almost not needed? Doesn’t mean that other characters can’t behave similarly, but it feels kind of redundant especially if their character arcs end in a rather anticlimactic way (Thalia, Reyna). The new additions are the much needed woc as the main story with PJO was inherently white (anyway stan black!Percy and Grover, folks). So it’s not to bash on the new characters, it’s more Riordan’s fault more than anything.
Since Riordan only knows three female character arcs it feels like he tried to copy the formula several ways with different nuances. Some more or less successful. This is where fandom actually comes in handy and helps create more distinguished and fleshed out characters in form of headcanons or fanfiction.
But even in these cases people still make it about Annabeth when it’s time for characters of colors to shine. Remember that whole spiel and discussion that broke out when people (Kal, diver-up, Caitlyn, Bee, reynaisalesbian, etc.) joked about or criticized that Annabeth thinks that she’s having it harder because she’s a blonde? In front of Hazel and Piper? If she would’ve been a real person that’s an invitation for getting decked. And then all hell broke loose because Annabeth stans couldn’t accept the fact that in the real world and/or in fictional worlds the woc/coc have it harder? That the white woman wasn’t the victim that needed the coddling? Yeah, that was mad pathetic.
I hope you people get my point?
Well fuck. I wrote so many things and have the feeling I’ve said nothing. Anyway, I hope I made sense. This is way too long.
TLDR: Chill about Annabeth please. She’s an important character but that doesn’t mean that everyone has to like her, regardless of being a character in the books or a reader/fan of PJO in real life. She isn’t nice or a sweetheart all the time. She also isn’t the monstrous asshole that some try to make out of her.
Peace out.

Im going anon because last time i submitted an ask to another fan acct on here, word got out to reggie and he blocked me on twitter.
Based on stuff that has been said and now deleted i believe certain people were not okay with Sam and Colby just expecting them to drop everything and film with them, or participate in stuff of theirs but when they asked for the same stuff in return the former were aways busy or just not interested. Reggie was doing late night twitch and “not sleeping enough” and getting stuff to edit short notice. After this was said or claimed, Colby said reggie was not going to edit for them so he can focus on his own stuff “twitch”. Right after this it was known by another former friend that they sat down Kevin and had issues with him always filming. Suddenly Reggie unfollows Sam, Colby unfollows Reggie, and then Reggie unfollows Colby. Reggie & Kevin became close to the KnJ group, there is an actual video of those guys making fun of them for always being around and eager. Reggie became all those guys i.t guy for twitch (not to mention Cassie & Devyn started hanging out Jcs house with Reggie and Kevin). Suddenly Jake becomes super distant from sam and colby, he just stays in his room and does twitch and would tell Tara we cant do this or That and would do the weirder shit to impress KnJs friends (this was all live on twitch) while you could hear Sam and Colby and Kat hanging out outside his room. Little bit after this is when Corey and Jake moved out, Jakes actual announcement to moving out was kind of like he was poking fun of the situation.
Its no coincidence they lost 8 friends all at once. They didnt grow apart, something happened. Not to mention Sam actually called them fake friends during one of their lives during 2020 because no one called him or checked in to see how he was.
(figured i would add all of your asks together.)
👀👀👀
this all just sounds like everyone got slightly upset with one another and instead of being adults and talking things out, they all just decided to be petty and not speak and give each other the silent treatment.
i LOVE that 🙄
i will say the kevin thing i knew about bc of the mike situation that happened recently, but everything else i didn't know about.
it seems as if there is a lot to the story that we don't know about. and i'm okay with that bc it ain't our business anyway. but my only problem is they ALL got the fans into their friendships. and while i don't expect them to tell us what happened, they could at least pretend to not dislike each other lol
or address it if it's really not that much of a problem. even just saying "hey i'm not close to xyz anymore, so if yall could stop asking about them, that would be great" would be better than awkwardly ignoring the person's name (usually snc's lol).
as someone who is easily annoyed by confrontation that could be easily solved by talking/petty situations, this whole thing is irritating and ngl i'm kinda over it lmaooo

about the sbi crit post, this is some deep mcyt tumblr lore. idk if you're interested, but the op was a user gayminecraftmen, who was part of a group called "dreamlying" consisting of users wormweeb, georgesoot, georgeeehd and warpedfungusonastick (i think you've reblogged some of their posts?). anyway, the drama connected with them was fucking wild. they were EXTREMELY critical of ccs (especially dream). wormweeb's critical post about dream and george queerbaiting people showed up on kaceytron's stream when she accused dream of queerbaiting and used the post as evidence against him. georgeeehd used dream's doxxed info to check if he was registered to vote in 2020 US elections and who he voted for. they were also friends with ozzie, a twitter user who had drama with ponk and claimed to know him personally. warpedfungus is apparently in possession of some private info about ccs they found online, some of it using wayback machine (or they're just trolling you never know lol). georgesoot is probably the most infamous name. there was a rumor that he deactivated because dream's lawyers threatened legal action against him for defamation of character, but now he reactivated again so idk if it's true. he was also the inventor of ancap!cc!dream and centris!cc!george headcanon (?). also he criticized dream team a lot for being homophobic and toxic from what i remember. they were all very popular "truthers", speculating heavily about ccs sexualities and real romantic relationships between ccs (including minors). there was also a callout post/blocklist going around saying gayminecraftmen and georgesoot are enderbee shippers, but they claimed they were just trolling and joking abt it. but what i find incredibly funny is that they all predicted dream being a trump supporter/conservative in autumn 2020, way before the slideshow and reddit posts came up lol
Someone told me about georgesoot the other day, I blocked georgeeehd a long time ago because of some post that annoyed me (I can’t exactly remember), and I actually didn’t know about warpedfungus (kinda thought they were just chill, liked some of their crit posts), but I’ve unfollowed them now, so ty for the heads up.
But anyways, oof. It’s a shame they’re truthing/doxxing scum, because the rest of the criticism, although super intense and out there, I actually lowkey vibe with? Like, I try not to speculate about things that don’t have hard evidence on this blog just because there are far too many people following me now for that to be responsible of me, but... let me just say that I haven’t not discussed a couple of the things you mentioned with people I know irl lmao.
There’s kinda a lot I want to say about all this, but I just really, really can’t. But thank you for the info, ‘twas pretty interesting. I knew bits and pieces, but had never heard the full story.
Also, I am cackling at that last bit because it’s just so fitting. I’m pretty sure I saw one of those posts back in October, when I was first learning about who the Dream Team was on Tumblr, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some part of my subconscious had stored those bits away and manifested it as a light skepticism/hesitation when it came to anything DT-related...
#asks#discourse#this is actually so interesting hmmm#theres so much mcytblr discourse lore ive forgotten or dont fully know about#mcytblr#Anonymous

yes but the entire concept of ‘i am so annoyed at them’ or others being like ‘they're ruining their career’ is obviously not okay. The ask the previous anon sent about criticizing because you love them, true but criticizing means that you state an opinion about not liking, or that for them it's too pop or idk. Damiano and the whole band is not gonna care if you got annoyed or if someone else thinks they're getting corrupted or whatever, the literal meaning of Zitti e Buoni Is that people talk too much and I've seen people on this fandom become the people Zitti e Buoni talks about. anyways, back to it, we are talking about måneskin. if they are gonna get corrupted by america this is not gonna happen right now, they are young people who wanna experience their careers to the fullest with or without pop up English songs. if they don't want Italian songs ok i wish they would he more because thus is what I loved Måneskin for but it doesn't mean i have to get outraged and judge them..If they say they wanna do more Italian I'll be happy and support them. if they start doing things i don't prefer and it stops interesting me, sad but that's it. crying and getting mad and people writing paragraphs and telling them how they became the worst is pointless.
ps. i saw someone blocking a blog who said they like supermodel without anything else. that's not judgement, that's just being weird.
i mean, i am stating my opinion, and i am giving the reasons why i don't like the song, even if i don't think it's necessary for someone to give a point by point of what and why they don't like something. and honestly, i'm not trying to give them constructive criticism, because they're not gonna see this. if i was then yes, i would be way more gentle and try to put much more thought into my answer than i'm doing here
also, i know they won't care about any of it. making them care is not the point. again, if i wanted them to see any of what i'm saying, which i don't, i would go on twitter, where it's way more likely for that to happen. i already said why i was annoyed, fully acknowledged that it was a me problem. i don't doubt people are saying those things, that they're ruining their career, but i'm not one of them. do i think they have made Bad Moves? yes, i do, but it's not nearly enough to be career ending. they were just that, bad moves
about getting upset and crying, that's not something people have control over. i do feel like this, specifically the crying thing, is a jab at me considering i've said today that i am a crier. i cry, that's what i do! i cry when i'm sad, i cry when i'm angry, i cry when i find something adorable, i cry when i'm overcome with any sort of emotion, and this whole situation does get an emotional reaction out of me. i don't enjoy it, but what do you want me to do about it?
and i've seen people blocking each other for similar petty reasons (not in the må fandom, i mean in general). it's social media, none of us owe each other anything. i bet at least one person has me blocked because i don't like supermodel, and i know for a fact i keep getting unfollowed because of it. and that's fine, you curate your own social media experience, i'm not gonna get mad at anyone for that
all i ask for is that people don't put into question whether i care about them or not because of my opinion on this one song, because that's frankly insulting

(This is just my perspective as someone who is bipoc)
They really think after Jikishi, Dream is gonna add some rando?
I understand on a base level regarding all of this that for bipoc streamers, it’s incredibly frustrating and annoying to see some random white dude get to 300k so quickly and be invited to the SMP. And there legitimately needs to be a discussion around that and they have their complete rights to voice that frustration. But we’ve seen that isn’t what Dreams about and he’s more conscious then that. And about unfollowing people, so far he’s only unfollowing stans, both white and bipoc. Some of the people he unfollowed were legitimate weirdos. He can clean up his timeline however he wishes and throwing tantrums about it won’t do anything. Calling him anti-black isn’t helping or solving anything, the word is being made to be thrown around and ngl it’s annoying (especially when it’s white people throwing it around)
If it turns out that this was all for his face reveal I don’t see it getting better. I’ve already seen people get extremely dramatic, saying that if manatreed is a joke it’s “insensitive” and “really sick” and a “slap in the face” when all of this was legitimately harmless, it’s just toxic people making this situation a mountain when all it is is a mole hill
GOD Hari said something similar on Twitter and everyone called her a freak or some shit like CHILL OUT A LITTLE. The reading comprehension on there is -1 I stg they never passed their STAR tests.
I agree though. I just can't believe they went to war against unicorns like this ISN'T EVEN REAL. STOP.
Sorry my feet are cold I'm losing it.
I don't have a lot to add because you sum it up pretty perfectly. The amount of poc on the SMP is something worth discussing and criticizing. But that's clearly not all they're trying to do here. And while I'm sorry for people who got unfollowed and felt sad about it, he's under no obligation to follow you and it's got nothing to do with your race. It's that simple.
Dream's face reveal is gonna bring SO much discourse anon. So much. I can already see like ten topics in my mind's eye.

I know you posted it days ago but you said something about wanting to rant about either karl or his fanbase and its been itching at my brain. Ive no clue whats happening or what is happening at all cause no one seems to be making clear points?? Or explaining anything?
Obviously you do NOT have to talk about it im sure it might be a sore point to rant because people can get SO needlessly rude to others over it. But if you want to idk explain? Just rant? Im definetly curious what it was over or about.
The "you dont need to talk about this" is amplified by the fact i am DAYS late and you are probably over it by now.
okay hi yes im happy to talk about this but i think i should preface with two things:
1) even tho it may seem like im biased towards him or being very defensive of him im actually a super casual karl viewer and the only reason i am super defensive of him sometimes is bc we act a lot alike irl and that is mainly because of our neurodivegency. when i say a lot i mean we share traits like "annoying" stimming (jumping around, making loud noises, repeating the same phrases until everyone is sick of hearing them), the difficulty reading situations, the very obvious issues with volume control and not just bouncing from subject to subject to subject as we fucking please. basically anything you've seen karl do on stream that is Very Neurodivergent ive done the same in my own way which is why i get defensive when i see people calling him annoying or saying they dont like him, usually for these types of reasons. that being said, when i say im a very casual karl viewer, i fucking mean it. i usually only watch him when he's streaming with other ccs i like or when he's doing chill alt streams bc even with the annoying donos, he's pretty relaxing and comforting when he's just fucking around by himself and he isnt trying to get as hype as he would on a main channel stream. so yeah, it may seem like im biased and sure, i guess i am on some level, but it's not coming from a place of me hyperfixating on him or me even loving him as a cc, it's coming from me being a neurodivergent who likes him just enough to get upset when i see people basically being casually ableist towards him.
2) i dont have all the facts or even a great understanding on what the fuck has been happening recently with his "drama"...mostly bc he talked about it on his priv, which im not on, and people are gatekeeping the tweets, as they always do, and basically making you "dm to see them" (which is already a problem in and of itself bc apparently in these tweets he said he didnt want them being ss and shared, yet they are being shared thru dms over and over and over again like. at that point just stop withholding the information and post the fucking shit, you clearly dont care that he said "dont share"). additionally, most of the threads ive seen on this situation havent actually explained the initial issue, just talked about his apology (a lot of people have said "it's bad" but havent said why and with no screenshots ((i havent asked for someone to dm me them and i still havent seen them posted, which is mildly surprising, but incredibly frustrating at this point)), i only have a few basic details i can actually assess it on) or they talked about the initial issue in very vague details so um. excuse me trying to explain this now, but ill try and make it make sense with how little ive actually pieced together.
(oh, also, here's my first rant about the ableism in this fandom which is way more broad. this is a pretty different rant from that one, but they're both pretty big reasons why i hate this fandoms treatment of karl)
so basically the problems started with mr beast being apart of a charity stream that donated either to autism speaks or to a similar company, im unsure on that part. im also unsure on if the people participating in the stream actually knew of this or not bc, from what i remember, the money was being donated to a separate organization that was like. under the bad company or some shit like that, idk how stuff like that works and also i read about this shit months ago bc this originally happened months ago and just sorta came to a head recently.
anyways, i think karl was supposed to be apart of this stream but pulled out of it right before (that or these were two separate streams and karl was supposed to participate in the first but pulled out while mr beast did both?? idk. regardless karl did not actually participate, just mr beast). from there people started doing the guilt from association bullshit they always do, this was also doubled by the fact that the chris being racist stuff came out sometime around then and basically he got dragged all over twitter for "being ableist" and "supporting racists" and i cant remember if he actually apologized when this originally happened or not. i vaguely remember him apologizing about something back then but i genuinely dont know if it was this or something else.
basically that died down eventually, a good chunk of people unstanned him but him and honktwt didnt end up getting the lovely lil technotwt treatment and they still havent yet, surprisingly. good for them honestly ajsksk
but now we get to the past few weeks and apparently something happened with him "laughing at someone saying the r slur" (it was mizkif, i believe), specifically when it was directed at other people, which is a big yikes, obviously, but when karl was called out for this a lot of people kind of. made this into a situation that it wasnt bc um. basically karl didnt laugh at it, he gave a few nervous giggles, as people often do when in a situation like that (and karl specifically said he does this in the one part of his apology tweet which i did stumble upon, although it wasnt the important part of the apology thread bc why would it be) and people fucking crucified him for it. they quite literally dragged a neurodivergent man for supposedly "laughing at the r slur" when he can literally reclaim it and also he was just nervous laughing.
and this is where the situation just gets really bad because they. basically forced him to admit that he was autistic on his priv to apologize for this. i havent seen the screenshots of him saying this, but i saw people discussing it and i am frankly so fucking pissed about this because sure, it was a bad situation, and i understand people wanting an explanation, but an apology? for a neurodivergent man nervous laughing at a slur he can reclaim? and then forcing the man to admit something he literally said in that tweet he didnt want people to know which is why people were being so gatekeepy about it while also LOUDLY discussing the situation, as if that wouldnt drive MORE PEOPLE to look for screenshots and ways to get ahold of this information? and then people had the audacity to call it a "bad apology" when they had quite literally just violated his privacy by forcing him to admit something that he shouldnt have needed to share in the first place if he didnt want to, which he didnt.
and this is why im so pissed off. karl is already constantly picked at and made fun of and called annoying for his neurodivergent traits, things which he literally cant help, things which are generally harmless, and now he was forced into a situation where he can now be further picked at and made fun of and called annoying bc they forced him to admit something private instead of just understanding and accepting that he had been nervous laughing at someone using a slur he has definetly been called for his neurodivergency.
tldr of my thoughts: yes i think karl needed to address this situation, it definetly looked bad, but twitter stans have this sense of entitlement with their ccs and because of that, they consistently take it way too far and harm the people they claim to care about so dearly. we've seen it happen time and time again with dream, but this is the first time ive seen them basically force someone to out themselves to make their apology "valid" and most of them still seem to not want to accept it anyways, which just makes me feel bad for him bc now that info is out their and people are just disregarding it to continue "holding him accountable".
anyways, i think that's all i can really say on this topic rn tbh, if anyone else knows this situation better please feel free to lmk clarifications and ill add them in since, like i said, i know fuck all thanks to twitter being so goddamn hush hush about the important details while simultaneously being the loudest mfers about how much they hate karl now instead of just fucking unfollowing and moving on.
thanks for the ask and im sorry if this is confusing!! i just think this is one of those weird situations where like. i think karl deserved some criticism for what happened and how he handled it or at least he shouldve been asked to address it but that just. isnt what happened, at all. he was harrassed. karl got harrassed and because of that he handled this situation even more sloppily than he probably wouldve and exposed private info about himself that he didnt feel comfortable doing and it just. fucking sucks tbh.
#shit self#asks#karl jacobs#discourse#fandom critical#mcyt fandom critical#dsmp fandom critical#ask to tag#ableism#only reason im even saying what he said in those tweets is bc this situation literally makes no sense otherwise and basically everyone on#twt already fucking exposed this shit to people in and outside the fandom by bitching#long post#bangerz
