VICTORY! The Supreme Court just overturned Texas' HB2 clinic shutdown law, which would have left only 9 abortion providers in Texas! Let's celebrate today's win for Texans, but let it be a rallying call to fight abortion restrictions like these nationwide. Will you support the fight? #plannedparenthood #undotheburden

"So, yes, let’s celebrate this ruling, but let’s also remember that SCOTUS struck down *some, not all* of the restrictions placed on the people of Texas who are seeking a specific medical procedure within their constitutional rights. And let’s remember that people all across the United States face similar restrictions, and furthermore that the changing tide, even should it change with all the force such a ruling should merit, will still mean slow progress towards directly impacting the lives of people seeking abortion. When @ppillinoisaction reached out to me via my Etsy shop seeking a donation for a fundraiser, I was proud to support the incredible work they’re doing as an organization, but also to have the opportunity to open a brief forum with PP staff and the Fab Feminist community." Statement on #SupremeCourt #HB2 @WholeWomans Decision from @NewVoices4RJ Executive Director, La'Tasha D. Mayes (@duxfemfac)! http://goo.gl/3XATCO #ReproJustice #TrustBlackWomen “The high court was right to strike down the onerous Texas abortion ban, which disproportionately impacted and endangered women of color, immigrant and low-income women. Among those who will benefit from the decision are the 725,000 Black women in Texas and Black women across the nation, many of whom already face barriers to quality, culturally competent sexual & reproductive health care. While today’s decision in a victory, things are only a little better. Women still face outrageous barriers to reproductive health care in Texas and across the country. We are especially concerned about access for Black women in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Low-income women need better access to contraction and women of color need contraceptive equity. We need to ensure that every woman has access to quality and affordable health care. We will celebrate this victory by continuing to mobilize activists to protect and defend reproductive freedom and access to reproductive health care. We will continue to build the movement for Reproductive Justice to ensure that Black women and girls, women of color and LGBTQIA+ people get the health care we need. This Supreme Court decision is a resounding call for our nation to Trust Black Women.” To become a Member, Donor, Volunteer, Staff Member or Program Participant, visit newvoicespittsburgh.org. #BlackRJ #SCOTUS #TRAPLaws #AbortionAccess #Abortion #ReproRights #ReproHealth #KeepClinicsOpen #MyDecision #StoptheSham #UndueBurden #UndotheBurden #NotoriousRBG #SoniaSotomayor #ElenaKagan #StephenBreyer #AnthonyKennedy (at Supreme Court of the United States)

The right to health
We filed into the gloom of the inpatient department, sunlight seeming to absorb into the plaster of the walls. The wing to our left divided into what seemed like 2 rows of office cubicles, small, square rooms with no doors and walls that stopped just above our heads, failing to reach the ceiling. The patient rooms were even darker, barren metal beds without mattresses sat like skeletons in the corner of each, some floors occupied by patients' family members. From far down at the end of the rows, we heard a moan filled with incredible pain and something that felt darker than the rooms we looked into. death. The nurse leading us through the hospital turned to us, "She tried to abort the baby herself." In Uganda, abortion is illegal. There is no access to care and no place to go for a safe procedure. In desperation, women turn to the only options they have. Often at the cost of mutilation or their own lives. No matter where we are in the world, women have the right to make decisions about their own bodies. And they should have access to the care they need to be sure, whatever that decision, that it's done safely. No hoops to jump through, no stigma, no hundreds of miles to drive, and no judgement. If they don't have access, they'll still find a way to try. We all have our own beliefs, but there is no compromise to women's health and access to health care. Today was a big day. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_57629378e4b05e4be860efe5
