Yeah I would be really surprised if you did follow more than that because my others are quite obscure!
@me-0808 is my main, where I’m not really active but use it to save posts that I want to see again
@the-tumblur-searchbar is my corpoverse blog
@qcolour is where I save art tips, guides and colour pallets
[UNDISCOVERED] is where I save writing prompts and tips
[UNDISCOVERED] is where I (very very rarely) post lore about my OC’s
[UNDISCOVERED] is where I (rarely) complain about things (mainly my dad)
[UNDISCOVERD] has no posts, I just made it so save a url I may want to use in the future
Does no one understand that b&es are the true heart of the show? They have a morally grey view but are an overall positive force, but often cause arguments but they resolve mysteries but they’re illegal but the good outdoes the bad but- (much like another house I know).
Why else would it be called House MD.
#woah it’s all my blogs#well not all of them#[UNDISCOVERED] means I haven’t revealed it yet#probably by using the wrong blog

mice & murder, the ten commandments of golden age detective fiction, and the actual genre of the show
so mice and murder is the "mystery season" of dimension 20, and it's supposed to owe a lot to the golden age of british detective fiction. well, here's what a notable golden age british detective novelist and critic of the genre said were the ten commandments of the genre. with one more episode to go, let's see how well brennan has done abiding by this rubric:
1. The criminal must be mentioned in the early part of the story, but must not be anyone whose thoughts the reader has been allowed to know.
this one's pretty basic. fletcher cottonbottom was brought up when sylvester was introduced, and we get a flashback with him in episode 3. although if one of the pcs ends up being involved in the murder plot, that would violate the latter half of the axiom.
2. All supernatural or preternatural agencies are ruled out as a matter of course.
this is one of the few rules brennan doesn't break, though he comes close to bending it. even the ghost of connor mccabbage has a (shaky, but plausible) explanation.
3. Not more than one secret room or passage is allowable.
broken flagrantly and without compunction. loam hall is nothing but secret rooms and passages.
4. No hitherto undiscovered poisons may be used, nor any appliance which will need a long scientific explanation at the end
the powerful magnet that killed squire badger by driving shrapnel into his heart, the network of ghost-projection units, and the mushroom-powered electric grid all fall under "appliances which will need a long scientific explanation." and the stitched-together pseudo-corpses, while not "undiscoverd poisons," fall under the same general heading of being extremely medically implausible.
5. No Chinaman must figure in the story.
okay, sure, full marks for not including any racist caricatures, something which would violate many more recent rules than these.
6. No accident must ever help the detective, nor must he ever have an unaccountable intuition which proves to be right.
brennan's house rule that nat 20s are an auto-success and give extra information backs him into a corner here: the 20 to see if ghosts are real forced a major coincidence (although whether it helped rather than confusing the issue could be argued), but brennan is generally good at framing high insight scores as a result of processing information rather than just getting lucky or being unaccountably omnisicent.
7. The detective himself must not commit the crime.
it's looking unlikely that any of the pcs will be directly responsible, but of course that's dependent on the outcome of episode ten.
8. The detective is bound to declare any clues which he may discover.
some of those blurred text messages come close to violating this rule, although so far i haven't noticed any which contain information that the player didn't eventually reveal.
9. The "sidekick" of the detective, the Watson, must not conceal from the reader any thoughts which pass through his mind: his intelligence must be slightly, but very slightly, below that of the average reader.
since there can't really be any narrative devices like a first-person narrator in an actual-play show, it's not really possible for brennan to violate this rule. still, of the six pcs whose thoughts we are able to see, none of them appear to be hiding any thoughts from us (though they definitely are keeping secrets from each other's characters).
10. Twin brothers, and doubles generally, must not appear unless we have been duly prepared for them.
i suppose gangie's grave robbing counts as due preparation, but it's still pretty cheap, as noted above. (sylvester cross, the world's greatest detective and brilliant surgeon, failed to notice that the pseudo-connor mccabbage he would have examined was a kitbash of two older corpses?)
so what's the end result? i give brennan a passing 7/10 score — unless one of the pcs turns out to have been involved, in which case it will be a failing 3/10. the definite violations as it stands are rules 3, 4 and 6. the potential violations, in the case of pc involvement, would be 1, 7, 8 and 9.
all of which is really to say that the genre of mice & murder is not actually the tidy logic-puzzle genre of golden age detective fiction, which, after all, is ultimately conservative in that it always upholds the existing social order, with the disruptive element of murder always being resolved and punished. mice and murder is, in fact, gothic fiction, a much older genre and one which relies much more heavily on coincidences, secret passages, unofficial exhumation, vast criminal networks, multiple deaths, and (not coincidentally) progressive social commentary. as a first-time effort from a dm best known for his fantasy worldbuilding, gothic fiction is a nice middle ground, as well as being a much more comfortable fit with d&d (a major portion of each episode is essentially a dungeon crawl) than straight-up detective fiction is.

I might be baiased (Marvey Shipper) but I always thought that they misstook Harvey's fear of abandonment for a deep undiscoverd love for Donna. while it seems that they are together only because Harvey was afraid of ending alone and Donna was the only one left. and it apears that they have an unhealthy unbalanced dynamic of Harvey needing Donna more than Donna wants Harveyps. I know its hard work but please update on your fanfic bcz we are dying here for the conculusion of emptiness man
I certainly agree that Harvey’s abandonment issues are tied up rather tightly with his romantic love for Donna, or at the very least, his decision to run to her after the Ethics Committee hearing. All that talk from Robert and Alex and Samantha about family and unconditional love and so on would absolutely make Harvey feel alone in the world at that moment; Mike has left him, Jessica has left him. Donna isn’t answering her phone, but he knows where she is and can easily get to her, so he ends up there more or less by default. He needs someone, someone he knows and trusts, and she’s the only one around. Maybe not quite just a warm body, but…unfortunately close.
There may indeed be something to Harvey needing Donna more than Donna needs him, but as for needing her more than she wants him, I’m not so sure about that. I think she wants the picture-perfect life she’s always envisioned for herself, which includes a family, or at least a partner, who is (or who she can tell herself is) the love of her life, and she’s put so much effort into making Harvey into that person at this point that attaining him is a natural conclusion to her journey. In her mind, at least, without getting into how manipulative and unhealthy that all is. Which is not to say that gets rid of the power imbalance; he needs her so he tells himself he wants her, she wants him so she tells herself she needs him, and neither of them end up in a good place.
Thank you very much for your support of emptiness man; for various reasons, I’ve had a very difficult time working on it for the past couple of weeks, but if all goes according to plan, I do actually intend to post the final chapter this afternoon. I hope it lives up to your expectations!
