As we talk about how much I want Ed to return and give Winterwidow the Justice they deserve, let’s also not forget how dirty Marvel did both Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting, who created the Winter Soldier and brought Bucky Barnes’s character back to life.
Remember this?
Tumblr media
Or those?
“When I see ads for [The Falcon and The Winter Soldier], it actually makes me feel sick to my stomach.”
“When I work with people I try to give them the best deal possible. And if something ends up being a bigger thing I try to actually adjust their deal so they can take part in that too.”
“There’s nothing preventing anyone at marvel from looking over how much the winter soldier has been used in all this stuff and calling me and steve epting and saying, ‘you know what, we’re going to try to adjust the standard thing so you guys feel good about this.'”
“I have made more on sag residuals than I have made on creating the character for my one line that got cut.”
“it’s just weird that they’re so ungenerous to me. It’s especially weird because a lot of them are friends of mine. Or people that I thought were friends of mine.”
“There is a corporate mentality. Right now someone inside marvel publishing somewhere is watching this and laughing that I think I got ripped off. There are people that think it’s funny that I’m unhappy about it. I know for a fact because I’ve watched them be that way about other people in person.”
“I look at those credits and there’s all these other executive producers [of] people who were just at the publishing level who had nothing to do with it. I know how much that ep credit actually makes you in a tv show at disney. These people have made so much money on stuff that steve and I did.”

reading this felt like getting slapped in the face, l looked up to him for a lot time. He’s the reason I learned of the lgbtq+ community and the one the main reason I found labels of my identity
lot of artists look up and inspire by him. Fucking hell
let’s go into detail about what’s going on with thomas sanders and brei grace, because i refuse to let him and the community sweep this under the rug:
thomas severely underpaid brei grace for her work on roleslaying with roman
thomas then laid brei off after creating a work environment that was bad enough to make her not want to return
thomas made a post “announcing” that rswr would be on “an indefinite hiatus”. but it was only available on his patreon (im not a patron so i can’t link the post or show a screenshot, but if i find a screenshot i will edit it into this post)
just days later, thomas makes a tweet about his merch sale, and most (if not ALL) his current merch was designed by brei, who will not see a penny in royalties, and this is apparently a regular thing with thomas
finally, an entire week after the patreon “announcement” and brei being laid off, thomas says this on the youtube community page (among other things, but this is what im focusing on):
Tumblr media
and brei has to clarify that she was laid off
i want to point out the phrase “brei is currently not part of our team” and how thomas fails to acknowledge that HE is responsible for that. HE laid her off. and like a cowardly snake, he’s hiding behind vague corporate speak because he doesn’t want to admit the truth
unfortunately for him, the truth is out there
i know i sound really serious and dramatic and yall are probably not even taking me seriously and you have your pitchforks at the ready, but guess what? i couldn’t care less. i mean this IS serious, which is why im taking it seriously. but at the end of the day im just informing the community of what i know. what you do with that information is up to you
im not “cancelling” thomas, or trying to start a witch hunt, im just so sick of everyone pretending thomas is a perfect harmless little angel who can do no wrong. cos guess what? he HAS done wrong. he’s done wrong by brei. but everyone is so busy sucking up to him that they don’t seem to care that brei is suffering because of him
and this isn’t the first time he’s done wrong by an artist, either (let’s never forget the mad libs incident)
to summarize: thomas doesn’t make it a habit of properly compensating the artists he hires, he makes their experiences a living hell, and then he lies through his teeth about it
like i said, do with this information what you will, but i don’t know how thomas sleeps at night
(oh, and if you plan on harassing me over this post, im literally just gonna block you lmao don’t waste your energy)
hope everyone has a nice weekend (except for thomas tbh)

I think 90% of my gripes with how modern anime looks comes down to flat color design/palettes.
Non-cohesive, washed-out color palettes can destroy lineart quality. I see this all the time when comparing an anime's lineart/layout to its colored/post-processed final product and it's heartbreaking. Compare this pre-color vs. final frame from Dungeon Meshi's OP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So much sharpness and detail and weight gets washed out and flattened by 'meh' color design. I LOVE the flow and thickness and shadows in the fabrics on the left. The white against pastel really brings it out. Check out all the detail in their hair, the highlights in Rin's, the different hues to denote hair color, the blue tint in the clothes' shadows, and how all of that just gets... lost. It works, but it's not particularly good and does a disservice to the line-artist.
I'm using Dungeon Meshi as an example not because it's bad, I'm just especially disappointed because this is Studio Trigger we're talking about. The character animation is fantastic, but the color design is usually much more exciting. We're not seeing Trigger at their full potential, so I'm focusing on them.
Here's a very quick and messy color correct. Not meant to be taken seriously, just to provide comparison to see why colors can feel "washed out." Top is edit, bottom is original.
You can really see how desaturated and "white fluorescent lighting" the original color palettes are.
[Remember: the easiest way to make your colors more lively is to choose a warm or cool tint. From there, you can play around with bringing out complementary colors for a cohesive palette (I warmed Marcille's skintone and hair but made sure to bring out her deep blue clothes). Avoid using too many blend mode layers; hand-picking colors will really help you build your innate color sense and find a color style. Try using saturated colors in unexpected places! If you're coloring a night scene, try using deep blues or greens or magentas. You see these deep colors used all the time in older anime because they couldn't rely on a lightness scale to make colors darker, they had to use darker paints with specific hues. Don't overthink it, simpler is better!]

While your comment on non-US artists’ prices are valid it also shows your US-centrism………………. Not all people can pay in USD. In my country it’s somewhat similar that 20 is worth a 100, so this thinking is cutting out a majority of the customers who don’t earn in USD. Why are you Americans so stupid hahahah
I had a feeling someone would come at me with this when I made that post, but if you are going to be advertising your prices in USD and in english on social media sites that are by default already very western-centric communities (twitter, reddit, tumblr), you are going to and most certainly intend to attract largely American and western european customers. If that is the currency you are using to advertise yourself in a freelance position where you have the opportunity to set your own labor value, then you are literally selling yourself short. Would you rather do a single drawing for 100 USD, or burn yourself out over five drawings for 20USD? The monetary outcome is the same, but in the first, your time is more respected.
Art is a luxury and a skill, not a basic life necessity like food that must be openly available to all who need it. You don't need a "majority" of customers paying you minimum wage if you have a small handful of customers paying you much greater sums.
The onus is not just on the artist to change this, though. US customers also need to stop taking advantage of international artists and pay them the same they would pay a local artist, and if they see someone setting prices like that, there had better be a meaty tip attached.

i can't really make fun of käärijä for doing all these ads and hustling on airbnb and onlyfans - it's not too long ago that he was completely broke and i know how stressful and depressing it is to be stuck in a financial pit with no way out, how embarrassed and guilty you can feel when you have to rely on friends and family for help and money. i don't find it off-putting or even strange at all that he's very focused on making some cash, and that he's capitalizing on the käärijä 'brand' to this extent.
...but it does make him turning down €20k to hop on bojan's dick a lot funnier.

I hate when comic artist make the batboys COMPLETE clones of one another/of Dick. Like I want Damian to have green eyes, dark skin, and be insanely ethic and poise like his mother. I want Tim to have mousy features and an awkward haircut and be sweetly pale and lean. Dick needs to have a tan, and wild hair with sharp, almost cutting features. Jason has always canonically been the closest in looks to Dick, some people even mistaken them as brothers or as each other in their respective hero personas in certain comics. But even then, Jason needs to have his square jaw, thin smile and defining eyebrows AND BRING MY BOYS WHITE HAIR STRIP BACK.
I hate comics that make each batboy unrecognisable outside of their hero costumes :/ my babies had so much style and personality and charm when they’re all not a melting pot of white skin, blue eyes, and black hair.
Well anon, idk how effective it would be but what you've got to do is write to DC comics execs and tell them to pay the artists more.

Good News: I have more time to work on commissions
Bad News: Even if I didn't, I'd need to open them, because ya gal's finances are overwhelming. Why is the interest on my car payment so high. Why did my power bill double. Help.
I'm opening up 2 slots to begin with--These can be for...anything. I do a lot more than displayed here (Those $10 portrait coms are still on the table as well!), so don't worry if your idea doesn't fit the specs listed here!
Inquire for more at [email protected] or through DM on any of my socials.

This might be a hot take for some people but why would I care if BioWare stays open if they fire all the staff that makes the games I like.
