Uncle Carmy
Tumblr media
I've seen people lapidating Carmy because he didn't give a fuck about Nat's baby.
Well, we don't know that.
And jumping to that conclusion seems a little harsh and UNFAIR if you ask me (apparently bc he yelled at Syd he's now the devil incarnated and I bet that if he woulda been nice to her, but just as shitty as he was to everyone else, you woulda looked the other way and understood him -AWESOME! You're very kind! Never change!-). But then again, that's all most people have been doing with Carmy since June 27. So... I guess I should have seen it coming.
This is what I saw.
What we do know:
His phone and everyone else's were in the locker.
The next day, or whenever mom, dad & baby were back home and Syd paid them a visit, Carmy was at his place drawing and reminiscing his Copenhagen days, also thinking about The Bear's menu (to get Syd her bullshit star because that's all he thinks about), because he was looking for inspiration in those books. We don't know if he had already talked to Nat or to Pete or if he showed up at the hospital before Nat was discharged at some point, etc. Usually, if you have a natural birth you stay at the hospital 24 hours after delivery if everything is OK, longer if necessary for mom/baby. Also, we know that Donna was there and they haven't seen each other yet, according to Uncle Jimmy. This means that either Carmy coulda possibly have visited Nat and the baby at the hospital when Donna wasn't there, or that he didn't show up because he knew Donna was there and didn't consider that the best timing, as peace and love should be top priorities on those special occasions, so not dropping by to avoid Donna, was actually the most appropriate thing to do, postponing the visit to a more "convenient" Donna-free time. I kinda agree. When rooms get too crowded mom and baby get stressed out and if that crowd includes Donna and Carmy's tension, I actually prefer he didn't show up at the hospital at all. If that was the case, that was the most sensible thing to do.
Nat didn't seem mad at anyone when she sent the baby's pic to the group chat, which leads me to think that everything was A-OK with Uncle Carmy. She was fine. So thinking that Carmy had already showed up at the hospital or at her place once they were back home or even had a text or phone conversation with her to make sure they were ok and schedule a Donna-free visit, doesn't seem too much of a stretch. It's actually what usually happens in dysfunctional families.
My point is: The fact that they didn't show any of these potential scenarios and based on what they did decide to show 90% of the fandom decided to never give Carmy the benefit of the doubt or not even consider that maybe they didn't show a very plausible phone call or text or that Carmy actually was at Nat's place before or after Syd or even at the hospital, only shows how partial your way of watching the show is, and how much you guys miss for being partial. I'm not even gonna go over more serious topics like lack of compassion, empathy, open-mindedness, etc, because I have in previous posts, and even when I'm certainly not here for anyone's amusement but my own, it bores me to tears at this point to repeat the same stuff over and over. Ultimately you only see what you are prepared to see, so whatever I say or not is not gonna change that, and that's OK. But just so you know THERE IS A HUGE CHANCE that what's not on camera, may have happened anyway and we might find out about it later on and you may need to swallow your words reconsider your position taken against Uncle Carmy... Be aware.

Carmy fighting through his social terror to help Willow fight through hers
he knows he's gotta lead by example but he fucking dreads it lmao. literally his worst nightmare, having to talk to people- strangers.
he's fighting for his life and he's so happy once he gets to jimmy's house at the end for his halloween party, and willow is less shy.
"teddy beat you down here." jimmy snorts lightly, nodding towards the girl, already on the floor with her cousins trading candy.
"yeah, we, uh, willow wasn't as excited as teddy was about the whole trick-or-treatin' thing." carmen ran a hand over willow's head. "she's a little nervous."
"nothin' wrong with that." jimmy said quickly, grinning down at willow. "it's weird, isn't it willow? goes against all instincts knockin' on doors and beggin' for candy. you just have good survival skills, kid."

trying not to talk too much abt the bear s2 but im Really fuckin frustrated that even with everyone demanding that they’re sooo media literate and sooo smart that no one has talked about claire and the way she sparks audience discomfort. like, she feels out of place within the show because CARMY cannot accept that he is getting this good thing—she feels out of place in HIS life. she’s actually crafted to be the ideal girlfriend, with glowy bokeh lighting in a grocery store and beauty shot close ups and a sweet instrumental leitmotif to show to you, an audience member, that she’s too good to be true in carmys eyes. if you’re an audience member, she raises alarm bells in YOUR head because she raises alarm bells in HIS. he literally tells us that—that’s the crux of his final monologue, that he doesn’t believe he can have the life of food and wines best chef and a life of love and human connection. he doesn’t believe he’s deserving of good things because his family has always been so fucked, because nothing he’s ever tried to hold together has held together—except for his cooking. it’s done this way on purpose, to make you feel that anxiety that he feels around this relationship, and to make you question why you feel it too

Controversial. But The Bear 2.0 was for Sydney. (I'll be fair and say 40% mikey 60% sydney).
But I said it. All these questions of Carmy, why are you doing this? His motivation is Sydney. Carmy suddenly wants to be the guy. And what catches Jimmy's eye is that Carmy isn't running away.
He knows that Carmy has a tendency to avoid difficult situations. He also understands, just as well as Carmy does, that Carmy could have simply paid him the money and continued the business for himself and Mikey. He wasn't even willing to sell it before, but this time, he is. He's even open to the challenge of trying to earn a star because his coworker wants one?
Carmy is willing to support her, even if it means accepting losses if things don’t work out.
He's willing to be there. He's willing to be the guy.
Carmy is not avoiding his responsibilities; he genuinely wants to be the committed one his father wasn’t. While he couldn’t fulfill that role for his own family, he aspires to be that person for his work family.
Jimmy, an long time investor in the Berzatto Family, understands that work families can sometimes be closer than real ones. It wouldn’t surprise me if Jimmy mentioned to Donna the changes he’s noticing in Carmy since meeting Sydney.
I believe that in season 4, his transformation and motivation will become clearer to the audience. Jimmy recognizes the risks he is taking, and Richie is also noticing these changes. I think Donna will notice them, too. My only question is whether Carmy and Sydney will acknowledge that these changes are a result of his growing closeness to Sydney.

Can you imagine reader doing the “do you know a mike wazowski, he said he knows you and his best friend sully from school?” Trend from TikTok On carmen, Richie, fak and uncle jimmy. And they are all stood around thinking where they would know this person from and discussing it for like an hour and then they bring Tina into it 🤣, and then they get annoyed that the person would even think about approaching you and asking you any thing like that 😂🤣.
Also literally obsessed with your writings 💕❤️
committed to the bit, truly, you get sydney to call the phone and you answer it. pretend to have a whole conversation, then come out.
"that was weird."
carmen's head snaps towards you. "what? what was weird?"
"the guy on the phone." you try to keep your face still, knowing your phone is propped in the window. "he called and said he wanted a reservation, i told him we were pretty booked and he could check online, and he said he knew you guys. that he was family."
"family?" carmen's brows crease.
"who's family?" richie comes in, buttoning his suit.
"the guy on the phone."
"what's his name?"
"wazowski?" you furrow your brows. "i think i'm saying it right. wazowski? mike?"
"mike wazowski?" richie repeated, you nodded. he and carmen look at each other.
"i dunno him-"
"-no, is he- fuck." richie pinches the bridge of his nose. "is cicero still here?"
"oh, please, don't tell me there's more." jimmy snides. "thought you two had it under control."
"no, not that." richie rolls his eyes. "who was, uh, neil's cousin? the one that's been married like twelve times?"
"paul?"
"yeah, what's his last name? wazowski?" richie waves his hand.
"wazowski? no." jimmy frowns shaking his head. "wazowski? no, that's uh... who is that?"
"he said he was coming with sullivan." you take a stilling breath to contain your giggles. you know you can't look at sydney or you both will break in laughter. "sully?"
"sully?" richie, jimmy, and carmen question.
"i dunno who any of those people are." carmen huffs.
"yeah you do. is it- is it pete's family?" richie frowns.
"yeah, i think it is. seems like pete's family." jimmy grumbles.
"doesn't he have that weird uncle-"
"-oh shit, yes. at the wedding. god, that guy wouldn't shut up." jimmy groans. "i thought pete was bad."
"don't call him back." carmen looks at you. "if he calls again, just get richie."
"me?" richie scoffs. "why do i have to talk to that guy? i don't wanna talk to that guy. make sugar do it. it's her family."
"yeah but it's your job, jagoff."
they don't realize later, until the video is posted, that it was in fact, a joke.

The Bear, The Bard, and Hamlet
Christopher Storer pulls from so many media types, music, movies, opera, theater, and it's beautiful. He is on point with Alfred Hitchcock in telling stories visually.
Like others have mentioned @gingergofastboatsmojito @thoughtfulchaos773 @currymanganese he pulls from the Bard, William Shakespeare. Fairest Creatures and Midsummers Night's Dream.
Another is Hamlet. Long story short, Hamlet's uncle kills his dad, marries his mom, and he goes, rightfully so, a bit mental with wanting revenge. (Yes, yes, yes, it's far more poetic than that. Worry pas, I get it. My dad is a retired English Lit professor.)
So, how does this relate to The Bear? Well, Mikey is definitely the stand in dad for Carmy and Nat. But, take it a step further. Their dad, seemingly, vanished, left them. Their "uncles," Lee and Jimmy, are connected with unsavory types. *cough *cough the mob. Mikey, Donna, and Jimmy say he wasn't good with the business. This has me wondering if, like with his son's, he went looking for a loan that he either couldn't, didn't, or wouldn't pay back. Not that Jimmy or Lee killed him, but they know what happened to him. And I feel that they also had something to do with Mikey's death. Again, not that they did it, but they know more than they are letting on. Jimmy feels so guilty this season. And felt so guilty to give Mikey the money in the first place. Where is that guilt coming from?
So, back to it. Carmy is Hamlet (Hamlet is driven by revenge. Carmy is driven by a need to prove himself for attention and acceptance. And kinda revenge, too.) Mikey is King Hamlet (king Hamlet is Hamlet's father. Mikey is the stand in dad to the bear siblings). Claudius is Uncle Lee (fucking asshole abusive prick. And I know there's more to Mikey's death and Lee had a part to play.) Donna is Gertude (Hamlet's relationship with his mother was strained and she was also poisoned. Carmy's relationship with Donna is messed up and her drinking also isn't good for her.) Ophelia is Claire (She gets burned by Hamlet. Not literally. Which does happen to Claire. No matter how I might feel about her.) Jimmy is Polonius ( "He is the chief counsellor of the play's ultimate villain". Jimmy is in businesss with Lee. And Polonius is supposed to be a busy body. Which, let's face it, Jimmy is.) Fak and Teddy are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (I want more space for them lol.)
Let's add the other Shakespeare plays in here, too, so we can get a good idea of the whole complete story of the Bear.
I also love that Richie is Puck. His fucking dream weave, people.
The rest of the Faks are The mechanicals.
Syd is like Cordelia. (King Lear's youngest daughter. Yes, I know, another play but still relevant. She refuses to wax poetically about the love of her father in public just to get some land. He refuses her and makes her life hard... Syd's not signing the agreement and is not really enjoying this version of Carmy.) She's honest, true, and brave. Puts up with a lot of shit.
I'd like to go back to two characters though. Dum and Dummer, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern or Neil and Teddy Fak.
In Hamlet
"They are two old school friends of Hamlet, and they come to visit him after his father's death, though it turns out that they are called to Denmark by King Claudius and Queen Gertrude to spy on Hamlet. They represent corruption and deceit in the play, and their existence and actions are full of irony."
Wait, what was that last part again?
"They represent corruption and deceit in the play, and their existence and actions are full of irony."
Hamlet ends up killing them, lol.
I don't think Carmy will. But it's definitely going to be interesting. Oh, Ophelia goes mad (because of Hamlet) and drowns herself...I don't want that for Claire. Hopefully, she moves on. Clearly they aren't good for each other.
Also, Richie, I want more of your dream weave. Lord, what fools these mortals be, am I right? Come on Robin Goodfellow, show us the goods.
