A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (unabridged narration)
Last year I did an unabridged narration of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. While it's not my best work, I had fun with it and it was nice to read the original story. 😁 If you decide to listen, I hope you enjoy it! 🎄

The Charioteer unabridged 1988 audiobook, narrated by Davina Porter
I've finished recording the cassettes, cleaning up the audio, and stitching the whole thing together! I've had to split it into two parts (each around 7.5 hours).
The tape was corrupted in 2 places near the end of chapter 6 that I have cleaned up as best as possible, but if there are any other issues with the content or playing/downloading it, please let me know!
To download the audiobook directly, here is a link to a Google Drive folder containing both audio files.
And I've also uploaded it to the Internet Archive, just in case something happens to the Drive. You can find a link to it here.

'I'm in Love with the Villainess' English Audiobook Debuts
On Thursday, November 16, Seven Seas Entertainment released its unabridged audiobook adaptation of the first volume of Inori's I'm in Love with the Villainess (Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou). The audiobook, released under Seven Sea's audio imprint, Siren, is narrated by Courtney Shaw (Liz and the Blue Bird).
Initially released in English in 2020, the first volume of I'm in Love with the Villainess follows office worker Ohashi Rei, who is reincarnated as Rae, the protagonist of her favorite otome game. However, Rae is not interested in the fantasy world's many eligible royal bachelors from the game and instead only has eyes for Claire François, the antagonist. Rae uses her knowledge of the game and its world to get close to her beloved villainess and swears that she will save her from her ultimate fate when the revolution comes.
The audiobook edition is 6 hours and 54 minutes long. It is produced by John Marshall Media.
This seminal Yuri series is notable for its explicit focus on and discussion of different LGBTQ+ identities, including queer marriages and families. The series, which began as a webnovel on Shosetsuka ni Naro, is a sleeper hit. It was initially licensed in Japan as a digital-only light novel series by GL Bunko but gained popularity, especially in international markets, leading to multiple rereleases, adaptations, and spinoffs.
YuriMother gave the first light novel volume a perfect 10/10 review, calling it "A stunningly profound, entertaining, and queer title that eclipses other isekai and Yuri series."
An anime adaptation of the series is currently airing on Tokyo MX and streaming internationally on Crunchyroll. It is produced by Platinum Vision and directed by Hideki Oba.
The I'm in Love with a Villainess Volume 1 audiobook is available on Audible, BookWalker Global, Spotify, Google Play, and other major audio platforms. The second volume will be released on December 7.

For anyone who's keen on the Peter Jackson LORD OF THE RINGS movies and has had difficulty getting into the book, I really highly recommend Phil Dragash's Soundscape LOTR project, an unofficial, unabridged audiobook with music and sound effects from the film soundtracks. (Because it's unauthorized, you can't buy it, but it's around if you look on the interwebs.)
Dragash is a very good voice actor — so good that the retention of "he said" type dialogue markers is sometimes jarring — and captures the characters very well (although he mostly recites rather than sings the songs). Every so often he stumbles on the pronunciation of a word (curiously, more often real ones than Tolkien's constructed ones — for instance, in Bilbo's song of Earendil, "mariner" becomes "mareener"), but that's also true of the authorized audiobook readers. The Dragash version is clearly superior to both the 1990 audiobook by Robert Inglis (Inglis sings, but his performance of the characters is often stuffy) and the recent 2021 Andy Serkis version (Serkis is a wonderful actor, but some of the characters are beyond his range, and he sometimes seems daunted by Tolkien's poetic constructions). The main downside is that because the Soundscape project is a labor of love done without benefit of professional audio mixing tools, the music can occasionally drown out the narration; Dragash has redone several of the chapters over the years to address this.
Dragash's audio version is a good bridge for people coming from the films, since it's informed by them (in the performance of the characters as well as in the music), but as an unabridged adaptation, it restores excised subplots and flattened characterization, while capturing the sweep of Tolkien's language.
I now prefer it to the two modern audio dramatizations of LOTR: The 1979 Mind's Eye version, adapted by James Arrington (who also plays Gandalf), is essentially an abridged audiobook with multiple voice actors; Arrington is excellent as Gandalf, but the rest of the cast, drawn from local community theater, is not, making it a very mixed bag. The 1981/1982 BBC radio version, adapted by Brian Sibbery and Michael Bakewell (initially as 26 half-hour episodes, later reedited to 13 hour-long installments), is generally very good, with Ian Holm and Bill Nighy outstanding as Frodo and Sam and Michael Hordern a fine Gandalf (although I think Arrington better captured Gandalf's prickliness). However, not all the actors are of the same caliber (Jack May as Théoden isn't a patch on Bernard Hill); the clever idea of presenting the Battle of the Pelénnor Fields as a medieval ballad (by Oz Clarke and the Ambrosian Singers) ends up being hard to decipher; the transformation of narrative exposition to dialogue works in some spots and not others; and the inevitable abridgements are painful if you're familiar with the full text. I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from the BBC version, and at 12½ hours, it's not much longer than the extended versions of the films, but it's no longer the gold standard for Tolkien audio.

Is the bonus episode for the new jersey rats important for it’s future content? I haven’t listened to it yet so i just want to know.
Nope! All of my Patreon and Channel Members content tells self-contained stories with no information that is crucial to understanding or appreciating the main story. The exclusive audios are meant for people who are already fans of the main stories, you may sometimes need to watch the free audios to understand the bonus audios, but you'll never need to watch the bonus audios to understand the free audios. The New Jersey Rats bonus audio develops the Tolone crime family a little more but, not in a way that's necessary to understanding any future plots.
They aren't very important to the narrative, but they are canon to the story and characters. They also include additional character development and secret lore that, while not necessary to understanding or enjoying the plots of the main series, can enrich their narratives.
A lot of the bonus audios I plan to make are like deleted scenes, side quests, and deep dives that integrate with the series they come from. The main series are designed to have the consistent pacing and economy of story that movies do. To not bog down the pacing, I re-make those parts of the story into their own little bonus episodes and release them separately for people who enjoyed the "movie" and are hungry for a little more.
Some stuff I have planned:
Jäger's fable (Der Schwertlose Recke), complete and unabridged without interruptions.
A Barbarian fable from The Bright Sands, narrated by Crow.
The Aftermath of Chronus Seven, with 2002 Benji learning about the fate of his other self.
Getting a personal trainer workout from Thad while Ashley fucking dies.
Badaboom and Jean going on another whacky side quest
Alfonso teaching Guest about life as a slayer, and Guest teaching him about the "normal" world.
Walter tries going one day without committing a crime.
Bonus audio set in the Matador Gothic/Wolfsjäger universe, a non-crucial prequel to the upcoming series "Vox Gothic".
A self contained one-shot that has way too much copyrighted music for me to get away with on YouTube

Your comment re Saltwater creatures about "first listening to the Iliad" got me ridiculously excited; what's your fav audio version?
I started with the Emily Wilson version and I love it so much. The only trouble with that audiobook is that its only available on Audible. I have also listened to a bit of the Caroline Alexander version, but I don't like the narrator quite as much (I wish you'd asked me this a few weeks ago though because that edition was on mega-sale).
Overall I've read parts of 4 Iliads:
Emily Wilson is my favourite, but that's partly because she's well suited to my needs because she writes specifically to create a lay person friendly version in a very strict poetic metre, and she has an extensive, very teacherly introduction.
Stephen Mitchell also attempts to be "modern" and "accessible" but I find it really self-conscious and he does things like cut out epithets to make it work, I love his empathetic introduction though. He also has an audiobook that is in at least 2 places
Caroline Alexander has a less accessible poem because she tries to capture the Greek word order, so she's a lot more work but its, overall, a beautiful translation and her intro is more historical. She also has a larger book about the Iliad, The War That Killed Achilles, which I recommend (and is on audio).
Robert Fagles is The Guy Everyone Refers to, and his version is the fancy version I "borrowed" from my parents. Its a lot more overtly poetic, but I honestly find the poetic language a little overdone. But that's a personal taste thing, you might prefer it. Although his introduction was not at all lay person friendly, or particularly helpful, frankly. The problem with Fagles is that while his Iliad is narrated by Sir Derek Jacobi, I can only find an abridged version I don't know if there is an unabridged audio.
#hope this helps#the iliad#i got two more versions in the book sale#so i am prepared to be 1/3 more annoying about i soon

Ozma of Oz by the Toronto Civic Light Opera Company
The Civic Light Opera is back with one more Oz story, the third Oz book, Ozma of Oz, which they have decided will be their final entry. They've released (and I've reviewed) The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and The Marvelous Land of Oz, so to avoid being an Oz company for a long time, they're concluding with Ozma and going on to other stories. The CLO is sticking with MP3CD to distribute their audiobooks. These are CDs that have MP3 files on them as a data track, allowing for a lot more audio than you'd get from a standard audio track on a CD. Modern CD players can play these, and you can also play them back in a computer with a disc drive or use it to copy the files to a portable device. Or you can do what I did and put it in a home theater DVD or Blu-Ray player, pull up the folder of MP3 files and just start playing. Ozma of Oz goes back to the Outside World (our world), where we find Dorothy and Uncle Henry on a trip to Australia on a stormy night. While looking around for Uncle Henry, Dorothy goes on deck, only to be washed overboard, finding refuge in a chicken coop. She awakens outside of the Land of Ev with Billina, a talking chicken. On their way to find out the best course of action, they meet the mechanical man Tik-Tok, and Princess Langwidere who has thirty interchangeable heads in her boudoir. But soon Dorothy and her companions fall in with the visiting princess Ozma of Oz, who's heading to the nearby Nome Kingdom to rescue the Royal Family of Ev from the Nome King. If you're familiar with my previous reviews, you'll know what to expect. While the text is unabridged, the introductions and chapter titles are not read. Joe Cascone narrates with a full cast performing the dialogue, the cast returning from their roles in the previous two audiobooks. To make it further stand out, classical music and sound effects are added. This is where I have to mention one thing. During the story, both Langwidere and the Nome King use bells to call for their subordinates or to be alerted. The same sound effect is used for all times, which is fine, it's just that this sound effect is very familiar if you've ever seen a commercial for Taco Bell. Audio quality is good. I was playing it back with the audio going through the soundbar and found it sounded best if I used the music setting. Overall, it's a great presentation of the story. Again, we get a matching presentation in a jewel case, decorated with artwork by John R. Neill, photos of the cast, an introductory note from Joe, a cast list and a list of music used in the production. If you miss physical media, these are worth looking over. To get a copy, Joe has it for sale on his website, along with the first two Oz books as well as music CDs and notices of his upcoming audio versions of A Christmas Carol and Animal Farm. http://dlvr.it/Ssd7Cx

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life
Jen Sincero, read by the author. Tantor Media, unabridged, five CDs, 5.75 hrs., $34.99 ISBN 978-1-4526-1551-6
Jen Sincero offers a no-nonsense approach to reinventing yourself, shedding the past’s baggage, and grasping the opportunities awaiting you, once you’re ready to seize your inner awesomeness.
Her goal is to chisel away the fluff of the self-help genre and identify exactly what you need to do in order to succeed.
Sincero reads in a conversational voice, however she sometimes comes across as slightly condescending.
As a narrator, Sincero tries to be both lively and relaxed, and thus her narration sounds uneven.
Still, listeners looking to find their inner badasses and live awesome lives will find this spirited audio edition useful.

How nice of Kusner to write a light-hearted piece about a notorious bigot. With no research at all, he bought into Shocked's lie that her anti-gay rant was planned (several comments on social media and interviews immediately following the event refute that lie.) He's normalizing bigotry and hate speech, and the Dallas News is letting him do it. You all must be so proud of yourselves for trying to resurrect the career of an abusive, hateful woman. She has had multiple Twitter accounts suspended for abuse. She has been asked not to perform at several venues after lashing out at fellow performers and audience members (she physically assaulted a man in a wheelchair at LA FrogSpot.) But I guess none of that matters as long as you can make one punk happy.
Michelle Shocked has spent the last several years spewing hate. Nothing has changed except that our culture seems to have decided that hate is now normal. I disagree. By supporting her, you are supporting cyberharassment, prejudice, and racism.
I'm sure it slipped Kusner's mind to include in his article that he has befriended Shocked on Twitter and that he has a personal bias towards her that clouds the validity of his article, so I thought I'd mention it here, on the off chance the Dallas News has an editorial staff who reviews these posts and wants to take action against this serious breach of journalistic ethics. All Kusner did is accept a known liar's word and Dallas News printed it as fact.

De Profundis & The Ballad of Reading Gaol performed by Stephen Fry (Audio Cassette – Dove Entertainment Inc.; Unabridged edition; 1 Jan. 1999)
Another English actor who could sell an audio simply on the power of his performance is Stephen Fry. In fact, his performance is much more consistent than the material in Oscar Wilde’s “De Profundis” and “The Ballad of Reading Gaol” (Dove Audio, unabridged fiction, four cassettes, five hours, $20).
“The Ballad of Reading Gaol” is an emotional and brilliantly written poem penned by Wilde after his release from prison for homosexual acts in 1895. “De Profundis,” which constitutes the bulk of this audio book, is another matter. The title means “out of the depths,” and is, at its most basic, a wordy, angry lament against the lover who let Wilde rot in jail. It does contain illuminating flashes of insight and an astute understanding of human nature. That said, much of it remains a laundry list of complaints that become tiresome by the second or third hour.
The production begins and ends with somber music that underscores the bitter sadness of Wilde’s words. Fry, who played the title role in the film “Wilde,” easily picks up on that mood and confidently conveys its deep and moving emotion. His voice is mellifluous, smooth, well-trained. The actor greatly understands both the language and its meaning, and expresses that knowledge with remarkable ease. His diction and pronunciation are superior to that of most narrators. In the hands of a lesser performer, “De Profundis” would have been mere vitriol. In the hands of this actor, “The Ballad Of Reading Gaol” alone is worth the cost of this audio book.
