Pink pokemon #14: Umbreon!

ID: Umbreon, in the first image the base color is dark purple, while its accents are pink. In the second image, the base color is pink while its accents are dark purple. I couldnt pick which one I liked better. Also, this didnt upload right the first time apparently. Remember, if you throw pokemon in my ask box Ill recolor them pink!

Yes, I gave him seven pkmn. Either SandyShocks & Spiritomb switch out, or Idia is just a cheat 🤷‍♀️

Porygon Z is a stolen pick, admittedly, but it fits him so well so I stole it. Same with Silvally (tho from different people lol) Absol reminded me of Idia, so I gave him one and Umbreon is also a good one. Yes this means that he has two shinies, he’s rich and is thus allowed color coding in his partners. Spiritomb was another one that I was attached too and I feel like Chandelure is obligatory (esp since I didn’t give Ortho a Litwick 😰) As for SandyShocks, I gave Ortho a future paradox pkmn, so I decided to give Idia a past paradox pkmn to match, and I landed on SandyShocks!

(I couldn’t find the 10% form for Zygarde on the site I was using, so I looked it up instead. I also recolored the red to blue myself bc I didn’t feel like trying to find an actual blue version)

Ortho… also had 7 pkmn. Uh- sorry? You could get rid of Morelull to make it cleaner, or you could interpret her Rotom as Rotom(Ortho Form), thus technically there is nothing stopping her from stepping into the pkmn battle herself if all of her usual pkmn faint-

Anyway, Rotom, for obvious reasons, and I feel like Klinklang is another obvious choice. I chose Golurk and Iron Valiant for similar reasons, as both are like, “protection” pkmn, if you will? You get what I’m going for, right? Something ancient and mysterious yet futuristic that needs to have a guard dog. If that makes sense. Speaking of guard dogs, I gave her two Zygarde 10%s to represent the two dogs she has in canon! I originally gave her just one Mega Houndoom, but then I realized that there were much better fits. I still do think that Houndoom would be a great choice for her tho! As for Morelull, that’s mainly due to the fact that I like to give her Hypnos symbolism (who is the Greek god of sleep) but if you add on the fact that it’s a fairy type, then you also get a reference to Fairy Gala IF!

So, I made Twila as a kid when I first started getting into spritework on the original Pokéfarm forums (PF1, for those familiar with the sites), as a basic recolor of Espeon with Umbreon's palette, and because I was a big Orre fan she just sort of. Stuck around? She at one time had a whole plot revolving around Shadow Pokémon and all, but these days she's just sort of drifted off and become her own standalone Pokémon fancharacter. I still have her and draw her occasionally, including having used a PMD-based portrait piece of her has my avatar here and there, and she remains my oldest OC to this day.

She's gone through her fair share of revamps, one to add in Umbreon's markings to give her a bit more going on design-wise, and one swapping her palette to Umbreon's shiny colors for character reasons - She was always intended to be an Eevee who evolved as the sun set, taking on the general shape of an Espeon but with the coloration of an Umbreon, who ended up being shunned and cast out for it, and I eventually opted to make her a shiny one to really highlight the contrast of her life as this ~special rare precious shiny Eevee~ with where she ended up. I don't really remember much of its original iteration any more, but what little exists of the actual plot of her story these days has formed around themes of the process of finding a place and people that accept her as she is now, rather than the ones who simply saw her as a sort of trophy in her youth, and recovering from the trauma of her rejection and exile and the ways it's impacted her as a person, which, if I were to properly flesh it out again, would likely tie into Shadow Pokémon and the process of purification being not unlike that of recovering from trauma in general.

Anyway, all that said, Twila! My oldest surviving OC. I think she deserves a prize just for the fact that she's still around and relatively intact, at least on a conceptual level.

inner focus seemed like the least unfitting ability out of the three that alakazam can have. fwiw I respect that in rebirth bugenhagen was able to look inward and do some self reflection to realize he was being an ass.

wise glasses bc he wears glasses. lol.

the moves aren't super interesting. I guess future sight because he's trying to keep an eye on the future of the planet and calm mind because he's old or whatever.

since it was a japan-only mobile game, you might not be very familiar with before crisis. I barely know anything about it myself, but deneh is a female member of nanaki's species in it. I wonder if she'll be mentioned in the third remake game at all. at the very least, there's a a small easter egg in rebirth: one of the paintings in cosmo canyon shows a young nanaki next to a similarly-aged member of his species, who I assume is meant to be deneh.

it's not exactly fitting given what the ability does, but I gave her rivalry because to my understanding she initially looks down on nanaki for being a coward.

I gave her the eject button because she escapes when nanaki is taken by shinra.

since I think there's barely any information at all on her given that she barely has an appearance in the entire series, fire blast and hyper voice are just generic moves. yawn is because she was apparently put into some kind of stasis or something after nanaki was captured (I guess to retroactively explain why she wasn't in ffvii). taunt is again because she thought of nanaki as a coward

the cosmo candle is the bonfire in cosmo canyon. I chose a charizard because it has a flame on its tail, just like nanaki.

the charcoal and flamethrower are both related to being a fire.

the rest of the set reflects cosmo canyon's location in the desert. solar power, solar beam, and weather ball for the sun beating down. ancientpower for the rocks being old as shit

moves: foul play, moonlight, reflect, spite

limited moon is nanaki's ultimate weapon. umbreon seemed fitting for a moon theme.

the rocky helmet is not all that interesting in itself, but it's a good item for defensively oriented pokemon. nanaki is defensively oriented in rebirth as well.

moonlight is for the moon theme. reflect is another defensively-oriented piece of the set.

spite is a bit of a weird one, but limited moon does more damage the higher nanaki's current mp. spite reduce the pp of an enemy's move and I figured that was related enough

item: heat rock

moves: overheat, flamethrower, solar beam, scorching sands

cosmo memory is nanaki's ultimate limit break. it has pretty much nothing to do with ninetales, but I've tried to choose a bunch of Beaftes for nanaki.

the ability drought, the item heat rock, and the moves solar beam and scorching sands are desert-themed again. overheat is for the cosmo memory animation

species: zamazenta (crowned shield form)

ability: dauntless shield

item: rusted shield

moves: behemoth bash, body press, crunch, iron defense

zamazenta is an ancient hero Beafte who is perfect to represent seto having defended cosmo canyon from the gi. body press and iron defense are defensively oriented moves. crunch because he's a critter. behemoth bash is so he can body gi nattak

196-197 - Eevee Line (Gen 2)

So today I bring you Espeon, the Sun Pokemon, in the colour of the sun. And Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokemon, in the colour of the night, with rings the colour of the moon.

So maybe it'd be cool if Espeon was blue, and Unbreon's rings were red. Unfortunately these sprites from 2015 don't show it very well.

Redesigned the Eeveelutions

+ Their shiny forms

Explanations for my thought processes behind each of them because some of them have reasons for being the way they are:

Jolteon: So, for Jolteon I wanted to balance out its design a bit. It was kinda top-heavy and so I added a tail. I made the tail white to add more of that color. Kinda simple, but the one that gave me the idea to do the rest. The shiny form is just a basic color swap, reversing the yellow and the purple while leaving the white alone

Flareon: So, I didn't have a really great idea for Flareon. My only thought was to essentially recolor it, making it sunset themed. I would've just left it alone if it didn't end up looking kinda boring compared to the others. The shiny is a noon/daytime theme to play on the fact that the original is sunset themed.

Umbreon: I love the original form of Umbreon, but it was kinda frustrating to me as a dark type. I wasn't entirely sure on its intended concept and it felt too spiky to be a dark type evolution of Eevee. So I added some fluff, made it look smoky to give the feel of it being dark to pinpoint in shadows. I replaced the red with purple because it added a nicer contrast and felt more night-y. The shiny is just a palette swap with Espeon, but it's also the 'day' version of Umbreon since Umbreon and Espeon are meant to be night and day.

Leafeon: I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with Leafeon. It had a nice color palette already and my only real criticism was the fact that it lacked the collar/neck fluff that's a sort of Eevee staple (in my opinion). So I made the neck fluff a flower, and played up that design in the tail. I also used the brown to mimic mud, because Leafeon felt like a gardening type. The shiny is based on my favorite flower :]

Sylveon: Sylveon was another attempt to balance out the design. It was almost even more top heavy than Jolteon, so I made the tail bigger. But to make the size up look good, I had to make it fluffy. So of course I fluffed up the rest of Sylveon's design, and replaced the bows with puff balls in an act of self indulgence. The splotches make me happy. The shiny is just the basic pink/blue swap that's in Sylveon's normal shiny

Glaceon: I really wanted Glaceon to actually look like it could survive in a cold environment. Plus, the whole concept of Eevee is that it's versatile and can survive in lots of different habitats. Shedding all its fur off isn't a good way to survive the snow. I didn't really have any ideas for Glaceon's shiny, so I just kinda made it look like Baby Yoda :/

Espeon: I had SOOO many ideas for Espeon's redesign, but actually trying to incorporate them was almost impossible. There just wasn't space and Espeon didn't look good with anything more complicated. So I just embellished a few colors/design elements to make it really pop. The shiny is a palette swap with Umbreon, see that explanation for more detail.

Vaporeon: So I didn't have a clear vision for Vaporeon going into it, all I knew is that I wanted it to change a bit. It looks like a very damp water dog and I love it. The shiny is meant to play on the idea of it being a deep sea monster of some kind, like the lure on its head suggests it is

Far too often, my dreams give me designs for Pokemon characters. Often, they are recolors, and they usually don't have names or any actual characterization, but it's still interesting.

Here are some of them:

-A gray-ish purple Sylveon named Frank, who had half of his face burned. He was supposedly a nice dude though, which is good since it goes against the trope that only villains have scarred faces.

-A yellow Umbreon with white rings. No name or anything, but it's cool since Umbreon is normally darkness-themed.

-A bipedal Leafeon who looked sad in the image my dream provided. I don't know why he was sad, he just was. No name though.

-A blue Lycanroc (or some other similar Pokemon) named Sage, who was a cannibal.....and a sympathetic character too, according to the dream.

-Two Milotic, a male one who is light-themed and angelic, and a female one who is darkness-themed and demonic, and both are good guys on the same team. Their names were Kieran and Celestia respectively, ironically in the second case.

There are far more than just these, but these are the ones that come to mind first. If I was better at drawing, I would try and make full designs for them.

My friend said their favorite Pokemon was Umbreon so I did a color swap! It's not the best quality but I tried ;-; Their colors are very similar besides the main body color, so I didn't just switch the yellow with yellow and the red with red. @candiedlove
