THREE STAGES TO TAHAJJUD

One of the most virtuous of the nawafil acts of worship is waking up in the middle of the night for tahajjud prayer. This is that special time when the doors of mercy are thrown open and the angels are dispersed, seeking out those in need of their Lord. Yet, how unfortunate our situation is that we are deprived from this great bounty.

“Their sides shun their beds in order to pray to their Lord in fear and hope…”(Quran, 32: 16)

Abu Hurayrah (radiallahu anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said,“The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer.” [Muslim]

I remember anytime one of the narrations regarding tahajjud would come up in a text, or was mentioned by one of our teachers, the students would eagerly ask how they could become regular in this blessed act. Here are a few suggestions based on their responses.

Stage 1 – I just can’t wake up

Despite your best efforts (asking a friend to call, multiple alarms, sleeping early, making a firm intention at night, etc.) if you simply cannot force yourself to get up, pray your tahajjud prayer before you go to sleep. Its time technically begins after Isha, so this can be a means of showing Allah that you are serious, and truly desirous of this great bounty. Couple this with dua admitting your inability and asking Allah for His bounty.

Stage 2 – I am sporadic in my tahajjud

If you are blessed to wake up for tahajjud on occasion, or get up most days, but miss a few here and there, be sure to “make-up” the prayer on the days that you don’t get up. And of course couple this with dua.

Umar (radiallahu anhu) narrates that“I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) say, ‘Whenever one of you sleeps through his night devotions, or through a part of them, then, if you perform them between the Fajr (i.e after Ishraq) and Dhuhr prayer, you will receive the same reward as if you performed them at night.’” [Muslim]

Stage 3 – I regularly wake up for tahajjud

Alhamdulillah, if you are at this stage you need to ensure 3 things:

Give shukr every night that Allah allowed you take advantage of this great blessing.

Admit to Allah that while you are unworthy of such a blessing, you are in need of it.

Beg Allah that He allow you to wake up the following night as well.

May Allah, Most High, allow each of us to be regular in our tahajjud prayers!

Masih Tentang Wanita

Tidaklah ketika seorang wanita hadir dengan keshalihannya kecuali keberuntungan besar akan meliputi siapapun disekitarnya. Allah menyerupakan wanita dengan tanah, karena pada tanah semua kehidupan akan dimulai.

“dan tanah yang baik, tanaman-tanamannya tumbuh subur dengan izin Tuhan; dan tanah yang buruk, tanaman-tanamannya yang tumbuh merana. Demikianlah Kami menjelaskan berulang-ulang tanda-tanda (kebesaran kami) bagi orang-orang yang bersyukur.” (Q.S. Al-Araf : 58)

Orang tua akan beruntung, ketika seorang wanita sholihah atau anak perempuannya yang dijaminkan akan menjadi tabir baginya dari panasnya api neraka, “Barangsiapa yang menanggung nafkah dua anak perempuan sampai baligh, maka pada hari kiamat antara saya dan dia seperti ini, (beliau menggabungkan jari-jarinya)” (HR. Muslim)

Seorang suami pun akan beruntung karena memiliki partner terbaik menuju akhirat dan anaknya mendapatkan madrasah terbaik untuk mereka sebagaimana Rasulullah Saw. berkata kepada Umar, “sebaik-baik simpanan yang dimiliki olehmu wahai umar, sungguh simpanan terbaik ialah seorang wanita sholihah yang membantumu dalam urusan akhirat.”

Dari sini kita menyadari, bahwa beratnya langkah dakwah nabi Nuh. Putra nabi Nuh tidak mau taat, padahal beliau hidup bersama anaknya terus menerus. Sementara disisi lain ada nabi Ibrahim, beliau bertemu dengan nabi ismail hanya 4 kali saja, namun putra nabi Ibrahim memiliki ketaatan yang luar biasa sementara putra nabi Nuh tidak mau taat.

Para ulama lantas menjelaskan bahwa perbedaan diantara keduanya hanya ada 1. Yaitu nabi Nuh tidak memiliki support system yang baik sebagaimana nabi Ibrahim. Nabi Nuh memiliki istri yang membangkang dan tidak mau taat kepada Allah. Sementara istri nabi Ibrahim memiliki ketaatan yang luar biasa kepada Allah.

Menyelesaikan urusan dalam diri

Tentunya setiap wanita selazimnya menyelesaikan pekerjaan besar dirinya karena sejatinya tidak akan beres amanah apapun hingga terselesaikan masalah yang ada dalam dirinya sendiri. Jangan bicara mengenai kejayaan islam sebelum terselesaikannya keimanan pada wanita.

Karena sebelum Allah mengamanahkan nabi Isa, maka Allah menyeleksinya dengan ibadah internal yang panjang hingga siap membawa amanah kandungan Nabi Isa dalam dirinya.

Seorang wanita harus selesai terlebih dahulu dengan dirinya, karena jika ia menyelesaikan semua urusannya, maka semua amanah yang akan jatuh kepadanya akan lebih mudah untuk dijalankan.

Maka ada pekerjaan besar wanita untuk melejitkan potensinya, yang terbagi menjadi 2 pilar :

1.      Komitmen hatinya untuk senantiasa terjaga menghambakan diri kepada Allah

2.      Mengasah karakter pribadinya.

Hati akan mempengaruhi bagaimana kita menjalani kehidupan. Harus senantiasa memiliki harapan bahwa apapun yang kita lakukan dan apapun yang kita perbuat hanya untuk Allah semata. Hati perempuan juga akan mempengaruhi terhadap kualitas kehidupan dalam rumah tangga. Kualitas hati seorang istri, akan mempengaruhi kualitas respon yang akan diberikan suami, begitupula dengan kualitas hati seorang ibu, akan mempengaruhi kualitas respon dari bayi yang sedang dikandungnya atau sedang diasuhnya (secara tidak langsung).

Untuk melejitkan potensi wanita, ada beberapa perkara yang harus selalu diamalkan, diantaranya ialah :

·        Harus senantiasa menenangkan hati

·        Mendatangi majelis-majelis ilmu

·        Selalu mengingat balasan Allah di akhirat

·        Berkumpul dengan orang sholih

Seorang wanita pula harus senantiasa mengasah karakter dan potensi yang dimiliki. Jika dia sudah selesai dengan suatu perkara maka hendaknya ia berpindah kepada perkara yang lain agar lebih bermanfaat dan bisa mengasah potensi yang ada dalam dirinya.

Allah membagikan amal, sebagaimana Allah membagi rezeki. Sebagaimana itupula peran setiap wanita bisa bermanfaat untuk banyak orang.

Ponakan saya, Umar, usia 4 tahun, kapan hari tetiba nanya umminya. Umar : Mi, ganti palang pintu itu apa? Emaknya : Abang habis denger apa? kok tiba-tiba tanya palang pintu. Umar : Abang denger cerita yang Nabi Ibrahim nyuruh Nabi Ismail untuk mengganti palang pintu rumahnya. Wkwkwkwkwk balada balita masjid nan kepo, mendengar ilmu yang bukan tatarannya. Pertanyaanya bikin syik syak syok. Abang Umar ini bahkan belum bisa nyebut huruf R dengan baik, huruf S kadang masih ketuker sama C, eh tanyanya segala palang pintu.

All Shi'as believe that Ali, the Prophet's son-in-law should have been the caliph after the Prophet's passing rather than Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman according to the Sunnis. Shi'as also agree on the first four Imams, Ali, Hassan, Hussain and Ali II. There is a dispute among Shi'as regarding the succeeding Imams. All Shi'as believe that the Imam must be a descendant of Prophet Muhammed's daughter, Fatimah. Furthermore, the Seveners and Twelvers hold that the Imams have esoteric knowledge of the Qur'an.

Fiver (Zaydi) Shi'as = Believe that the fifth Imam succeeding Ali II was his son Zaid as opposed to his brother Muhammed II. Their idea of Imamate is that only a person who is righteous and spiritual from the Prophet's lineage may lead the Muslims rather than a divinely ordained person. They reject the doctrine of infallibility (Isma).

Sevener (Ismailiyya) Shi'as: Seveners and Twelvers agree that the fifth imam was Muhammed II, followed by the sixth Imam, Ja'far, but disagree on the seventh Imam. The Seveners hold that the seventh Imam was Ismail as opposed to his brother Musa. The Ismailiyyas are further divided into sub-branches, with the Nizaris (founded by Hassan ibn al-Sabbah) making up the majority. They believe all Imams are infallible. The Nizari's current Imam is Aga Khan IV.

Twelvers (Ithna Ashariyya) Shi'as: Believe in twelve Imams with the final Imam being the Mahdi. They believe Musa was the seventh Imam as opposed to Ismail. No further schisms occurred after Musa. They believe all of the Imams are infallible, with the 12th Imam being in occultation.

Para Wanita Peradaban

Saya belajar banyak dari berbagai sumber, bahwa salah satu cara terbaik kebaikan seorang ayah itu berasal dari lisan ibu kepada anaknya.

Saya mengikuti series dari wanita-wanita peradaban, bagaimana para wanita peradaban ini mendampingi para syuhada, pejuang, sahabat. Mereka yang mendampingi bukanlah para wanita biasa, mereka yang visinya besar, mimpinya melewati zaman, perbuatannya pasti, rela dalam suka dan duka, dan doa-doanya melangit.

Salah satu kisah luar biasa tentulah kisah Ibrahim dan Ismail, hari ini kita terlibat dalam isu Fatherless yang luar biasa, diidentikan bahwa seorang ayah harus senantiasa mendampingi anak-anaknya dalam fisik dan batin, tapi tahukah kita Ibrahim dan Ismail hanya bertemu satu sama lain dalam hitungan jari, apakah Ismail membenci ayahnya? tentu tidak. Dari lisan Sayyidah Hajar lah diceritakan bagaimana perjuangan Ibrahim dalam dakwah kepada Ismail. Maka begitulah sebaliknya, ketika hal buruk keluar dari lisan seorang ibu kepada anak-anaknya, maka bisa dibayangkan. Berbuat baiklah kalian para ayah, suami dan anak laki-laki.

Para wanita peradaban ini, bukan lagi mereka yang bergelimang harta dan kenyamanan dalam hidup, satu kisah paling luar biasa adalah Fatimah binti Abdul Malik, istri dari Umar bin Abdul Aziz dalam mendampingi suaminya, mengikhlaskan segala kenyamanan yang dia miliki sebelumnya sebagai putri dari khalifah abdul malik dan mendampingi Umar bin Abdul Aziz dalam beratnya perjuangan.

Kisah lain dalam Ishmatuddin Hatun sang pendamping pembebasan Baitul Maqdis, visinya bertemu satu sama lain dengan Nuruddin Mahmud dalam penaklukan Baitul Maqdis, hingga wafat dan bertemu kembali dengan Shalahuddin dalam visi hidup yang sama. Ialah yang menjadi istri dan pendukung dalam dakwah penaklukan Baitul Maqdis. Ketika Nuruddin Mahmud wafat ada banyak kota yang terlepas, dan jika bukan karena dukungan Ishmatuddin Hatun maka akan sulit bagi Sholahuddin. Luar biasanya mereka menyemangati satu sama lain, surat menyurat bukan dalam perinduan di tempat nyaman tetapi dalam jarak di medan perang.

Wah sungguh kisah-kisah wanita luar biasa yang terdengar seperti dongeng dalam Abad ini. Inlah kisah cinta dan pengabdian para wanita peradaban.

The Hour draws near...

Allaah informs,

اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

"The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder." [Surah al-Qamar (54:1)]

Allaah informs about the approach of the Last Hour and the imminent end and demise of the world,

أَتَى أَمْرُ اللَّهِ فَلَ تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ

The Event ordained by Allaah will come to pass, so seek not to hasten it. (16:1),

اقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَـبُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مُّعْرِضُونَ

Draws near for mankind their reckoning, while they turn away in heedlessness. (21:1)

Ahadeeth about the Last Hour

There are several ahadeeth with this meaning.

Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Al-Bazzar recorded that Anas said that one day, when the sun was about to set, the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ gave a speech to his Companions, saying,

وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا فِيمَا مَضَى مِنْهَا إِلاَّ كَمَا بَقِيَ مِنْ يَوْمِكُمْ هذَا فِيمَا مَضَى مِنْه

By He in Whose Hand is my soul! Not much of this world is left compared to what has already passed of it, except as much as what is left in this day of yours compared to what has already passed of it.

Anas said, "We could only see a small part of the setting sun at the time."

Another hadeeth that supports and explains the above hadeeth is recorded by Imaam Ahmad that Abdullaah bin Umar said,

"We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ while the sun was rising above Qu`ayqa`an, after `Asr. He ﷺ said:

مَا أَعْمَارُكُمْ فِي أَعْمَارِ مَنْ مَضَى إِلاَّ كَمَا بَقِيَ مِنَ النَّهَارِ فِيمَا مَضَى

What remains of your time, compared to what has passed, is as long as what remains of this day compared to what has passed of it."

Imaam Ahmad recorded that Sahl bin Sa`d said that he heard the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ say:

بُعِثْتُ أَنَا وَالسَّاعَةُ هكَذَا

I was sent like this with the Last Hour.

and he pointed with his middle and index finger.

The Two Saheeh also recorded this Hadeeth.

Imam Ahmad recorded that Wahb As-Suwa'i said that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said:

بُعِثْتُ أَنَا وَالسَّاعَةُ كَهذِهِ مِنْ هذِهِ إِنْ كَادَتْ لَتَسْبِقُنِي

I was sent just before the Last Hour, like the distance between this and this; the latter almost overtook the former.

Al-A`mash joined between his index and middle fingers while narrating this Hadeeth.

Imaam Ahmad recorded that Al-Awzai said that Ismail bin Ubaydullah said,

"Anas bin Malik went to Al-Walid bin Abdul-Malik who asked him about what he heard from the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ about the Last Hour.

Anas said, `I heard the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ say,

أَنْتُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ كَهَاتَيْن

You and the Last Hour are as close as these two (fingers)."'

Only Imaam Ahmad collected this Hadith.

There is proof to support these Hadiths in the Saheeh listing, Al-Hashir (literally the Gatherer), among the names of the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ; he is the first to be gathered, and all people will be gathered thereafter (for the Day of Judgement).

“O Muslims! Know and be aware that the Qizilbāsh people, whose leader is Ismail son of Ardabil has looked down on our Prophet's laws (Sharia), his custom (sunna), the religion of Islam, the religious science and the Qur'an, which tells us what is right and wrong. They have regarded the prohibitions of God as being allowed. They have offended the Holy Qur'an and burned it by throwing it into the fire. They have even seen their own damned leader as God and prostrated to him. They have cursed and denied the caliphate of the noble Abu Bakr and Umar. They have slandered and cursed the Prophet's wife, our mother Aisha. They intend to eradicate the Prophet's laws (Sharia) and the religion of Islam. Their other offensive statements and behavior similar to what is mentioned here, is known clearly by both me and the rest of the Islamic scholars. We have therefore in accordance with the rules of the religious law (Sharia) and the rights provided in our books, issued a statement (fatwa) towards this population as being infidel and pagan. It is any Muslims duty to destroy such a population. The holy martyr Muslims who die in this connection will achieve the highest paradise (Jannat ul-Ala). The infidels who die, will become contemptible and end up in a place in the deepest hell. The condition of this population is worse than the unbelievers (Christians and Jews). The animals that these people butcher or hunt down are impure (murdar), whether it is by falconry, bow or dog. The marriages they make among each other or with other populations are not valid. They have no right to inheritance. If they live in a village, only the Sultan of Islam, has the right to take over their properties and values and their children by slaughtering all the villagers. These values can only be divided between soldiers of Islam. After this collection, one should not listen to their repentances and regrets, but kill all of them. If it is known that there are any one of them or anyone who supports them here in this town, these must be killed. This kind of population is both incredulous and pagan and at the same time harmful. For these two reasons, it is necessary (vajib) to kill them. God helps those who help the religion and harms those who do harm to a Muslim.”
