Hello everyone. I made a small mistake and I'd like to rewind a bit in our conversation with Roy...

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "It keeps me entertained." His attention is drawn once more to the play of light and shadow on the walls behind you.

COMPOSURE [Medium: Success] - He's well composed, but underneath it you sense *psychedelic* processes, bubbling. Some kind of drug maybe?

This gives us a better chance at the Electrochemistry check.

KIM KITSURAGI - He sighs. "Yeah, it's not good. I do hope we manage to clean this mess up somehow -- while also keeping our focus on the murder investigation."

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "My apologies, officer, but I have no idea where she was coming from or where she went."

LOGIC [Trivial: Success] - A needle in a haystack. There is nothing you can do it about it now. You'll just have to hope you luck upon her somehow.

4. "At least now I know how I lost my sidearm. Let's talk about something else." (Conclude.)

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "Of course."

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "The Col Do Ma Ma Daqua?" He looks at you with astonishment. "Sorry, I would never have guessed that you were that interested in ultrasonic sounds... or *birds*, for that matter."

"I'm thinking of quitting the RCM and becoming a cryptozoologist."

"I have hobbies. Just like all normal people. Because I'm a normal person."

"Well, I wouldn't have guessed that you know what the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua is."

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "That's fair. I just... It's been a long time since my Col Do Ma Ma Daqua hunting days," he responds with a thin smile. "Once knew a group of young musicians who decided they didn't want to play music anymore and started looking for all kinds of interesting sounds instead..."

"That sounds so cool."

"Get to the point. Do you have any recordings now?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "Cool or not... One of them was obsessed with recording the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua -- and he was one of those passionate people who know a lot about all kinds of strange things, so he got the rest of us to join in his search..."

"And did you ever find it?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "We thought we did! We got together all these recordings of unusual sound patterns, compared them..." He chuckles. "Cut them up and combined them into the 'Simfonia Col Do Ma Ma Daqua.'"

"Hm, that's not very scientific."

"Can I listen to it?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "That really wasn't the point. After the 'Simfonia' we moved onto the sounds of office supplies or something like that... and I doubt any of us would have been any good at pushing papers."

"Can I listen to it?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "Unfortunately, I don't have any recordings from my... old life. None at all! But I do have a tape with some ultrasonic sounds that *might* be what you're looking for." He starts rummaging through some tapes behind the counter.

KIM KITSURAGI - "Do we really have time for this?" the lieutenant whispers to you.

"Spin that bird song!"

"Yes, it's absolutely necessary for my research."

"Nah, that's okay. It's just that I heard the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua outside the Whirling, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one... Let's talk about something else now."

BIRD'S NEST ROY - He dusts off a case, then takes out the tape and places it on the tape player. "This recording comes from down the coast... Wasn't looking to record anything specific -- just left a recording device there one morning."

"Keep in mind, I have to slow this one down enough to make sounds well over 200 kHz audible to the human ear... It will be... strange." He switches on the tape player. The speakers begin to emit a low hum....

As the hum grows louder, modulating, but always unnaturally, uncomfortably low, like it's coming not from the speakers, but also from inside your chest. Breathing is becoming difficult...

HALF LIGHT [Medium: Failure] - Not good, not good, you're about to start suffocating, you have to stop this...

INLAND EMPIRE [Easy: Success] - There's a growing sense of dread: the sound is coming from inside you but also surrounding you. It feels as though someone is standing just outside your range of vision and watching you, doing this to you...

BIRD'S NEST ROY - He nods to you reassuringly just as more diverse, higher-pitched sounds, some random, some appearing to form patterns, hit your eardrums.

"What's that?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "Gulls and skuas. But shhhh." He raises a pointer finger and inclines his head toward the speakers. A new, very high-pitched, shivering sound emerges amidst the others.

The low range of sounds is easier to handle with a focal point, but still troubling. You are mesmerized by the sounds, but also feel nausea welling up as the motif continues, then begins to recede, dissolving in what must be the sound of water lapping at the bank...

He switches off the tape player. "You know, now that I've listened to it on these new speakers -- it's *not* the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua. Wrong patterns, wrong... photons. Probably some insect trying to sing higher than its predators can hear. Still -- fascinating, aren't they, early morning sounds?"

SAWED-OFF STREET LIGHT - The light pole has been carefully cut, and the wiring has been redone and attached to a standard indoor plug. The light buzzes faintly but persistently.

CONCEPTUALIZATION [Medium: Success] - This would make quite a statement in your living room.

2. "Is that a street light?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "Yes, officer. As you can see, it's in perfect working order."

COMPOSURE [Medium: Success] - His manner is casual, but his speech is careful, measured. He wants you to know that he has nothing to hide.

3. "Where did you get this?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "It was brought to me to be altered."

KIM KITSURAGI - "We're not here to investigate the theft of city property." He leans in so the pawnbroker doesn't hear him.

KNICK-KNACKS STAND - You see rows of toy soldiers guarding the rest of the trinkets displayed on the table: some on horseback, others in rags, others yet in bright blue uniforms. All are stern and unyielding in their duty.

INLAND EMPIRE [Easy: Success] - Try to find something pretty and cool here. Then use it to win her back!

Inspect the knights on horseback.

[Interfacing - Medium 10] Dig up a truly *cool* figurine in the box under the table.

VOLITION [Easy: Success] - This sounds... off. You shouldn't trust this guy.

Inspect the knights on horseback.

KNICK-KNACKS STAND - Big men on big horses clad in lamellar armour and carrying flintlocks. The kind that would mow down a line of enemy soldiers in the blink of an eye.

(Point at the knights on horseback.) "Who are they?"

KIM KITSURAGI - "Franconigerian knights." He looks at the dusty figurines in the dim light. "I used to be very serious about these guys."

ESPRIT DE CORPS [Easy: Success] - ...a long, long time ago.

2. Inspect the blue uniforms.

KNICK-KNACKS STAND - They're not all blue. These figurines also wear gold coats and caps, complimented by orange trousers. They are variously posed, wielding swords and rifles with bayonets.

"Wait, this looks like René, the old guy who was playing petanque."

(Point at the blue figurines.) "Are these royalist soliders?"

KIM KITSURAGI - "This is what the loyalists looked like, yes." He inspects the figurine. "At first. Then they wised up and got camouflage."

(Point at the blue figurines.) "Are these royalist soldiers?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "Which ones?" The man peers from his glass box. "Ah, those! Yes, they are. I find the paint job a bit gaudy, but children like bright colours indiscriminately."

3. Inspect the figurines in rags.

KNICK-KNACKS STAND - This set of soldiers isn't meant to look impressive. A few have rifles, but most of them carry pistols -- some even shovels and tall sticks.

(Point at the figurines in rags.) "Are these even soldiers?"

BIRD'S NEST ROY - "You're probably talking about the revolutionaries, yes?" the man behind the glass answers. "Yes -- they are soldiers. Revolutionary soldiers."

"I think their poverty has been exaggerated for effect. When you place them next to the royalists, it doesn't seem like they could possibly win."

are sound-guns a thing? can they feasibly BE a thing? i wanna be able to do something like those photos of japanese schoolkids with tubas and their friends pretending to be blown away, except actually breaking the sound barrier to blast someone across 4 state lines

To a certain extent, yes, you can direct intense sound at a certain target using focusing techniques as you might for light (for the most part, parabolic reflectors, basically inverting the premise of a parabolic microphone). However it's important to remember that sound does not necessarily equal movement of air - waves will in general move through their medium without moving the medium itself. Obviously, in cases such as a tuba, the pressure difference between the interior and exterior caused by blowing air into it causes air to come out, but in the case of a speaker, the actual effect (if any) observed with focused sound would probably be vibrating shit really hard, like in ultrasonic cleaning, or people shattering wine glasses with their voice (an example of driving at the resonant frequency).

First thing I did today was prep the pieces I cut last time. I used the angle grinder with the grinding disk and quickly went over each of the edges.

I didn't get all the mill scale off but I don't care. This is for practice welding, not practice grinding! I was anxious to get started.

Then I tacked five pieces together to form practice plate #4 (PP4)!

Lol, my tack welds. These always crack as I'm filling in the groove. I need a lesson on how to do better tack welds.

Then I did a root pass. I accidentally broke the arc partway through, but I cleaned up the slag and continued. It looks okay on the upper toe; not much undercut! Voids on the bottom toe though, I think.

Then I did a fill pass:

Immediately I knew my work angle was wrong because the profile of this bead was quite flat (relative to the groove).

The next few fill passes kinda helped disguise that because they were able to sit atop the first pass and flatten out the overall profile of this layer.

Here you can see some low spots caused by unsteady hand and inconsistent fill :)

The next layer of fill passes was also mildly flat.

It's kinda flat? Also, I know--that last one is just gross. But it'll get covered up! However, the voids might stay...

Then finally the cap layer. Ugh. It is always so unnerving and didfficult to do that first cap pass. In this case it was quite saggy and squiggly which was greatly disheartening.

The next cap pass was also squiggly because I did not have a steady hand and at the very beginning the wire kinda sputtered and then broke/restarted the arc, and a lump was formed.

The third and last pass of the cap had a ton of undercut (forgot to get a picture!) and/or underfill so I brought it to Javier to look at and he said "Do one more pass where the undercut is"

So I did that and thought it was equally bad and undercutty, but Javier said it was a lot less jagged and actually not really undercut because there were no steep/notched valleys formed.

So in the end the only flaws were that spazzy lump in the second cap pass (excessive reinforcement), and the fact that the toes of the first cap pass could be less pronounced/saggy, and more smooth. Javier said if I increase my travel speed it will be less saggy.

He also said "a weld that looks good is not the same as a good weld" but I said "ok well how am I supposed to judge my welds on anything other that how it looks; I don't have the ultrasonic technology" and he said "we will cut open these and check" and i said "ok well until then i have no idea what I'm doing :)"

So THEN I started on a second groove on PP4. I did a root pass that seemed to look pretty decent.

Idk why this weird porosity is here. I checked the gas but it was working fine.

Then I tried to choose the best angle for the filler pass. I think it turned out better than the one I did on the first groove. The profile was less flat. My strategy was to aim the electrode slightly above the bottom toe edge of the root pass, and hold the gun at an almost perpendicular angle to the plate. I tilted it just the slightest amount up, but visually it still looked perpendicular.

I think this strategy is better than what I was doing before!

Then I cleaned up because I wanted to catch the 8:25pm BART.

Okay, so let me start by saying that when I received this, I was sitting in the studio like a sack of shit just idling through my phone after finishing for the day. And I HOWLED like a dog when when I saw it xD

Secondly, if we're going to try and apply my rendition of Cloud's artistic talent to an occupation like tattooing.. oof... are his clients going to be in for a bad time! But anyway, let's just imagine that this AU could possibly be a thing~

Tattoo Artist AU? Are you kidding?? xD

So I think it's safe to say that tattoo artists definitely exist in the FFVII verse, given that massive monstrosity of a thing Barret is brandishing on his arm. Fight me if you want, the thing is AWFUL and I (as a tattoo artist) would have done my best to try and talk him out of it, gun hand swinging in my face or no.

So yeah, there are tattooists in that verse, though whether they are proper establishments or these people are working out of the trunk of their car is anyone's guess... so if Cloud was to take up something like that, even as a hobby, I would like to think that he didn't just buy a cheap machine from some back alley shop and start carving into his mates, but received some proper training on how to use his machines, power supply, stencil application, blending techniques so on and so forth (Please believe me when I say that if you don't know what you're doing with these things, you have the potential to cause some quite substantial damage to your client. It's a lot more technical than some folks believe or understand, bear with me on this... xD)

But... in all honesty, Cloud's style would possibly be quite basic. A bit of old school 90's Tribal, some blackout shading, maybe even a skull here and there, or a flower or two. But if he's any tattooist (Hobby or no) worth his salt, he won't be scratching them out in a bar room setting!!

Maybe, let's have him convert a section of his garage into a clinical clean room, set up an autoclave, an ultrasonic cleaner, room for inks, power supply, and of course comfy chairs for he and his clients.

Maybe the chairs are shaped like mini Fenrir's, like those novelty kiddy chairs you see in the hair salon, now wouldn't that be super neat??? (Where can I buy me one of those...?)

But... even with all that, I'm not sure if Strifey would have the patience for something like this. Tattooing is quite a slow process depending on the design and the complexity of the piece, a piece of solid black tribal can look simple enough but I've done plenty which has taken me up to 6 hours which only fills the top of an arm, not to mention each area of the body has different skin textures which can make that process easier or extremely difficult (For example, the neck, ribs, sternum and the back of the thigh can be quite difficult area's to work on)

Not only all that, but he's so very heavy handed. If you let this boy loose on your skin, you gonna wish he went back to working with wood xDDD

This poor lil guy took a bath. Guns have 2 enemies, politicians and rust! Well the salty gulf waters are super accelerators of the latter. Tore it down, degreased it, rust remover treatment, elbow grease, ultrasonic treatments, repeat till all the grit and all the rust were gone. Retreat in the ultrasonic tank with a hot oil session to replenish the lubricity lost in the aforementioned processes. How To Properly Clean An Airbrush

An airbrush gun is an extremely small handheld device that shoots various media, typically liquid, ink and color but more often, paint and liquid foundation, by a simple process of ultrasonic nebulization. Spray painting, as it is often called, was first developed from the early airbrushing and has been called to use a "sort of airbrushing."

Airbrush guns are used for many different applications, including art, crafts, design, films, commercial productions and theatrical productions. Airbrush guns are often used in conjunction with air-based or gas-based sprays. Airbrush guns are also used to apply airbrushed effects to a model's natural features, such as the wings or the nose. To begin painting with an airbrush gun, first you will need a paint brush. You can use a regular sponge brush or a paintbrush with soft bristles. Next, you will need a medium, whether it be oil latex or water. The medium should be specifically made for airbrushing. Some mediums are designed specifically for painting with airbrushes and some are used to simply provide a base surface for airbrushing to occur.

Airbrushing paint on your model with an airbrush gun is very similar to spraying paint on a canvas with an aerosol can. With an airbrushing gun you will spray the paint onto your paint brush, which is a piece of plastic or metal tubing. Then, with the trigger, you will release the air to fill the brush with paint and allow it to dry.

There are two main types of airbrushes. One is the dry airbrusher, which allows air to continuously fill the brush, thus allowing it to dry quickly after application. The other type of airbrush is an air compressor. This compressor is attached to the spray gun and uses the compressor to constantly fill the brush. The compressed air helps to speed drying times.

After you have sprayed your color, let it dry completely before adding more paint. When you finish your model, you should apply at least one layer of varnish, which will protect your model and help preserve its value. and gloss. It is also possible to add gloss by sanding or buffing the model.

When using a compressor, you may want to wait until you are not going to be working on the model or when it is being painted. Otherwise, a compressor can leak or become overheated when painting. Always turn on your compressor only when needed and never try to spray more paint on your model than you plan to do.

Finally, before you remove your airbrush from its compressor, be sure to turn it off properly. Always read the instructions on your compressor carefully. This information can also be found inside your compressor.

Once you are done painting, you will need to remove any excess paint from your model. When this is complete, make sure that your brush is totally dry before cleaning or you could damage your airbrush.

First, clean your brush by either rinsing or wiping it with a soft cloth. Next, you will need to polish the brush to ensure that it is perfectly clean. You can use any type of polishing product, but you want to use one that does not contain alcohol since alcohol can cause paint to bleed.

Once your brush is cleaned and polished, dry the brush carefully with a towel. Cleaning the brush before polishing it will prevent damage to the paint.

If your air brush has been damaged or dirty, you can easily take care of it by using a soft cloth. It is important to clean your brushes after each use because they will continue to wear down if you don't.

Another way to clean your brushes is to wipe them down with a rag. However, it is important to remove the rag before you start the process. If you can't remove it, the air pressure may cause the bristles to pop back out.

You will need to clean your airbrush's brush head by using a cloth soaked in soap. After this, you should replace the brush head with a new one. Once the brush head is clean, it is ready to use again. Just wipe down the airbrushes with a dry towel to ensure that it is ready for use.

Finally, you will want to polish your brush heads to keep them looking their best. This may include polishing your airbrushes brushes after each use and occasionally polishing them by buffing them or sanding them.

i haven't watched atla since about a year before korra started airing, so like, around 2011. i should also mention that i never watched korra through to the end, but i guess i'll do that after this. if i feel like it. i do know that the biggest bottles were never popped

i have such a clear memory of the first episode. it must've been on nickelodeon pretty often, even though when it was airing, i only watched it occasionally. i remember they also aired the library episode super often.

i've just learned that zach tyler eisen is the voice of aang and i have to give him huge props for having the perfect voice. i pay a lot of attention to voice acting, usually in a nitpicky way, and i've never heard an english voice actor whose voice is perfect on the level of ikue ohtani... and when he was like 12 years old. incredible. i'm not being remotely sarcastic

anyway anyway, the episode ended without the quality rope being put to use. unless i missed it, which is entirely possible.

this is kind of out of nowhere and borderline inappropriate but i'm glad characters in avatar are illustrated with nipples when they're shirtless... it always disturbs me a tiny bit when shirtless characters are depicted with zero nipple, not even a hint of nipple. (Aladdin.) not just because it implicitly stigmatizes something everyone has, but also because this scenario always plays in my head where it's like, a little kid sees a cartoon character without nipples and they think, "so i'm not supposed to have these..." and they start feeling weird and bad about themself... all you need to depict a nipple is a single unobtrusive dot. nothing visually offensive or explicit about it.

none of the teens understand the obvious solution of defeating the fire lord by beating him INTO SUBMISSION (or oblivion) instead of killing him. just like in every anime fight ever. it's over when you acknowledge you've lost or you can't fight anymore, not when you die. (for the #1 best example of ending a fight the right way, see the way luffy defeats crocodile.)

so i know aang's gonna defeat the fire lord by essentially hitting him with a forced purification beam to the face and make him realize the errors of his ways or something. the fun part is how we get there

i'm glad i decided to watch this again. even if i didn't do a great job paying attention tbh. well i did spend a bit of time carving a little wooden spoon while i was watching. anyway i was thinking i wouldn't move right on to korra but rather read some of the atla comics that i know exist but have never read whatsoever. i wonder if i can find them in some kind of library...

i found the comics illegally on the internet and read a whole bunch (up until the end of the "zuko finds his mom" arc). i didn't write my thoughts down as i was reading, so i don't remember them. that's how my worthless brain works. i do remember that i found the comics satisfactory as an accurate extension of the show, and that i feel ambivalent about how azula is written/treated in the comics.

i don’t know if i feel like rewatching korra yet.
