Gunna do donuts on tixall wide this summer who wants to join me?
#i fucking love tixall wide its so silly#the history is borderline hysterical too#the canal builders needsd a canal there but no farmer would give up land and ghe man who owned tixall manor was like#“yeah stick it at the end of my field size garden but only if it looks like an ornamental boating lake” and they had no other option so#that is exactly what they did#ro rambles#boat posting#narrowboat

I think the reason I dislike widebeams so much isn't that they're wide, if every lock in the whole system was a double wide I'd want a bigger boat too... its that they're just a bit ugly? They want to be narrowboats but they usually just end up looking a bit weird? I don't get why, with wide beam money, youd go for an ugly wanna be narrowboat and not a Dutch barge?? They're so gorgeous??!? If I had money for a huge boat I'd want a Dutch barge (this is a lie I would buy Tycho and a butty if I had that sort of money but let's pretend for a moment) and I just don't get widebeams? I've tried so hard but I've only ever seen one I thought was nice looking, it had very pretty front windows, most don't even have front windows and they just end up looking a bit strange to me?
I know that there's some weird turf war style dislike between widebeam and narrowboat owners and I don't give a shit about that like unless you block the canal I do not care but? Why aren't they built to look better? Where are the windows at the bow door? Why aren't they built to look pretty??? It's a missed opportunity, if someone built widebeams that looked striking from the outside I would be totally into them but they're just not nice looking and it's such a shame! So much potential to do cool stuff and??? They just haven't????
Ik I've opened up a can of boaty worms here I do apologise, each to their own I know widebeam owners love them and that's what matters, but aesthetically I can't understand the attraction?
#narrowboat#boat posting#ro rambles#okay maybe im a bit jealous that you have space for a full double/king size bed that doesn't have to fold away or block the bow door but#hear me out anyway i would not sacrifice aesthetics for more space i dont get ittttt

i took my friend to Hocking Hills state park yesterday and on our hike I talked all about the (now retired) park naturalist who mentored me years ago, along with the professor who also mentored me and how they got me my first job in my field after college, like I went on and on about my memories of them and the time I spent with them in the park, and then we got to a cave and they were both inside. I hadn’t seen either of then since I moved away seven years ago and then I went back to the state park for the first time since and they were just there. in a cave. they went to the cave together. one of them saw me and said “oh hi! what are you doing here?” like hey fancy us all being here in this cave together huh.
