Satomi Hayakawa (Kaoru Ukawa), a team member of the Terrestrial Defense Force's Ultra Guard in the Heisei Ultraseven series.
Heisei Ultraseven was a TV special and three direct-to-video mini-series set in the continuity of the original 1967 Ultraseven series. Seven was the only Ultra who had been to Earth, and there was no connection to M78/the Land of Light.
Shigeru Furuhashi (Sandayu Dokumamushi), an original UG team member from Ultraseven, was now the captain of the team. Apparently, other original members made appearances as well in the mini-series.
Somehow or other, I don't remember how, I acquired the complete Ultraseven: Evolution (2002), the last mini-series of Heisei Ultraseven. I tried watching the first episode, but it was like trying to read a novel by only reading the last 50 pages - I had no idea what was going on or who any of the characters were.
Attempts at getting the TV specials and the other two mini-series have been unsuccessful. I keep hoping Mill Creek will release the entire kit and caboodle some day, but I have become increasingly disillusioned with their Ultraman releases in the last few years.

what is frot
Ultraman Tiga (ウルトラマンティガ, Urutoraman Tiga) is a Japanese tokusatsu TV drama and the twelfth show in the Ultra Series. Produced by Tsuburaya Productions, Ultraman Tiga had aired at 6:00 pm and aired between September 7, 1996, to August 30, 1997, with a total of 52 episodes with five movies (three being crossovers, two being direct sequels to the series as well as a comic book series).
It was broadcast after a franchise hiatus of over 15 years, set in a universe different from all previous series and updated with a new look and feel. Tiga is the first Ultraman with multiple combat modes and non-red colors. It is one of the most popular entries in the Ultra Series. Because of Tiga's popularity, he had more exposure on TV and movies than any other Heisei Ultraman. Ultraman Tiga was also dubbed in English by 4Kids Entertainment and broadcast in the United States as part of the FoxBox programming block on Fox Broadcasting Company affiliates, making it the fourth Ultra Series to air in the United States after Ultraman, Ultra Seven and Ultraman: Towards the Future. A modern retelling of the drama titled Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga was released on July 10, 2021, as a commemoration for the drama's 25th anniversary.

top 5 movies from either ultra, rider or sentai! I personally really love the stand-alone 90's rider movies, but all gokai movies are great too (as one would expect from me)
Ooh, fun to ponder! I love a lot of toku movies, but these are my favorites.
Kamen Rider Hibiki and the Seven War Oni - Rider should do more period pieces, and the Seven Samurai plot literally always works. Contains Kabuki, who is my favorite movie Rider. Honestly I could just watch this instead of Hibiki the show and I'd be happy.
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Space Sheriff Gavan - Fun character backstory, good action, and Ohba Kenji! What more could anyone want?
Ultraman Cosmos vs. Ultraman Justice - The one time I watched this it was with truly atrocious subtitles and it still really moved me. I mean, I love pretty much any story where some alien creature learns to love humanity, but this one also has Musashi and gender ambiguity in it, so how could I not adore it?
Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Forever / Kamen Rider Zi-O: Over Quartzer - All of the HeiGen movies are pretty good, but Forever is my favorite because the scene of all the Heisei Riders arriving inevitably makes me sob like a child. Over Quartzer goes with it for the truly wild sequence where all kinds of guys show up, and for having supremely odd Woz content.
Shin Ultraman / Shin Kamen Rider - These may be obvious choices, but they're both so, so wildly good, and I can't possibly choose one over the other. (Although Shin KR was definitely the better in-theater experience--comfier seats, fewer people, and Rudo and I weren't the only ones to lingered to sing along to "Let's Go! Rider Kick" over the credits.)

As someone who thinks that Ultraseven is the best showa series and one of the best ultra series in general, is Heisei Seven a recommend?
Yes because one of my highest praises of it is that stylistically and tonally it literally is just more Ultraseven. Like there's a couple things you expect due to being made 30 years later and the first few explicitly being a whole eco-awareness campaign thing but despite those it is shockingly close to just feeling like the original show. If you loved Ultraseven this is literally just more of it

-- 𝑯𝒆𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒊 𝑼𝒍𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 (1994-2002) -- Heisei Ultraseven is an animal that which goes on a really great rise, but then kinda dwindles when it hits its finale almost a decade after the first specials pumped out. The 1994 special is the most odd one out of the Heisei Seven content in that they seemed unsure if they wanted this to be in the M78 continuity or if they wanted it to be in the continuity originally intended for Ultraseven. I'd compare the almost last minute decision to what Bumblebee (2018) was in that you can see a lot of the overall M78 continuity things that were intended like, having the SSSP cast like Kurobe, Sakurai be present that almost could be said as their role reprisals or like having kaiju that weren't in the original Ultraseven be referenced through images. It felt unsure, but I will say that overall a really fun special and a lot of the signs of things to come for Heisei Ultra in the TDG era. The 1998 content is definitely *the* Ultraseven content of the Heisei Ultraseven stuff that you want to see, probably some of the strongest content there was at the time and really fun ideas and concepts that are explored nicely! The 1999 content isn't as great but it is still strong, really creative with the new kaiju the bring in and the seijin too are also unique and I feel don't really reach such levels again til the latter end of the Heisei era. The cast of the 1998-2002 stuff are really great, and I love the Kazamori bullying sessions. The 2002 EVOLUTION content is definitely the weakest of the Heisei Seven content, feels unneeded in a time where it only really was put out for anniversary sake and only really aired because of false allegations regarding Cosmos' lead actor. I'd say don't really watch this one unless you want a completionist tick.

Potentially major leaks for New Gen Gaia series + Chronicle Rumors
Sources imply that Taguchi would be directing the New Gen Gaia series as the staff department in China has apparently said that he's gathering the old cast of Gaia rn, this was apparently from a recent press conference
This might potentially mean that the New Gen Gaia series might be a sequel to the Gaia series, which if yall recall, Ginga was originally planned to be a sequel to Gaia as well with Gamu being a professor at the University that Hikaru was meant to be attending at
And why did I mention Ginga outta nowhere? Because next year is also Ginga's 10th Anniversary (it's all coming together now)
So yeah, they're literally reusing scrapped concepts, which I'm definitely all for this particular one
Also the first 2 merch for Gaia content in the next Chronicle has been revealed to be Super COV and Gan Q in the same press conference, so that's the confirmation that the next series is indeed New Gen Gaia if yall still needed any
To recap, next year is:
1. New Gen 10th Anniversary
2. Ginga's 10th Anniversary
3. Gaia's 25th Anniversary
4. Taro's 50th Anniversary
Considering that Taro was so popular (technically TsuPro still regards him well, and personally my fav ultra), hope he gets an actual cameo rather than just featuring Birdon or sth like with Pandon for Seven's
Or dare I say, either Super Taro get a new redesign or we finally get to see his Limit Breaker form once he wields the Ultimate Blade (at least a sneak peeks for UGF4 for 2024 as we probably wont be getting it in 2023 thanks to Regulus)
Also, sources say that the name of the next Chronicle would be "Ultraman Heroes G", with Zero again confirmed to be the navigator
Overall, personally very excited for the New Gen Gaia series cause there's so much they can do with it unlike Decker
And especially because its the major anniversary years of my favourite Ultra and Heisei Ultra

Psst. Where does one start in Ultraman. I think they share a timeline? I have a stolen box set from my father of the first one?
ultraman does share some of a timeline, mostly the m78 "main series", but this is absolutely unimportant, so you can start anywhere, but since it can be very overwhelming, so I'll separate things for you:
Showa
Ultraman (the first one), Ultraseven, Return of Ultraman, Ace, Taro, Leo and 80. These shows are connected after RoU, but you can start anywhere, just be mindful that they where still figuring things out in the first 2, in terms of what to do in a heroes' show.
Heisei
Tiga, Dyna, Gaia, Neos, Cosmos, Nexus, Max, Mebius, Ultraseven X. Independent series, but watch Tiga before Dyna, be mindful that the shows from tiga to nexus and seven x are targeted to young adults so they are kinda different from the rest of the series.
Ultraman zero series of movies
Mega monster battle ultra galaxy legends, ultra galaxy legends gaiden, ultraman zero the revenge of belial, Ultraman zero gaiden, ultraman saga zero and ultra brothers, Ultraman saga, ultra zero fight. Underrated place to start, clear order of events, gets introduced to zero that always shows up from time to time and also learn the origins of the ultramen and the land of light.
New gen
Ginga, Ginga S, X, Orb, Geed, R/B, Taiga. Start anywhere, but I would recommend watching the ultraman zero series of movies before geed.
Reiwa
Z. Nice place to start, would recommend watching geed first.
"The timeline" is just the order of release for these shows.
Some people who never watched ultraman spread lies like "you need to grow up with Ultraman to like it" nah dude, I started with the ultra galaxy legends movie just a few years ago and I love ultra to death,
the fanservice is just that, it's a kids show, why would they make kids watch 50+ years of content just to watch the new stuff?
So my recommendation: watch the ultraman box that you already have access to, if you don't mind classic toku, if you don't like it, watch something newer, like Mebius, the ultra galaxy movie, Max, X or Orb, can't go wrong with those.

What do you think about Ultraman X? Do you have any plan in watching the older series from Showa era and early Heisei era such as Tiga, Dyna, Gaia and Cosmos?
So, I noticed that some people don’t really care for X, which I get. The plot is almost entirely nonexistent, with the only overarching things being trying to summon a monster and Daichi’s parents. The big baddy just kinda shows up on the second to last episode and was literally nothing, which I don’t even know how you fight nothing, but whatever.
Despite not being the best series, I still enjoyed it quite a bit. Not my favorite, but I enjoy it. I think Daichi and his connection with Gomora is sweet, plus I like his interactions with the other members of Xio. I adore Daichi and X’s interactions, it’s something I loved when I watched Geed with Zero and Leito (and Zero and Taiga in Saga plus Hiroyuki with Taiga, Fuma, and Titas), and I wish more series did it (like obviously series where the Ultra is either also the human host or isn’t shown to have a personality I get not doing it, but I wish we saw more of it in like Ginga, where we know Ginga is still alive. Like, R/B Russo and Blu are dead so I get not having it there and Victory is ambiguous). Anyway, I enjoyed that, I also enjoyed X’s personality in general.
Some of the episodes had weird plots, but what’s new? I overall enjoyed X, not my favorite, not something I’d refuse to rewatch.
As for other series, we’ve finished R/B and it’s movie, so that was fun. We watched the first two episodes of Taro, the first episode of Seven, and the first five episodes of Ultraman. The issue with watching a lot of Ultraman at least, though I imagine Taro and Seven are like it also, is that the monster of a week format is hard for us to watch a lot of. So the Showa era will probably be in slow increments. According to my sister, some or most of the early Heisei era is kinda dark and she seems to think I don’t watch dark stuff (which is funny considering how many horror games I watch plus she does not know some of the fanfiction I accidently stumbled upon when I was waaaay younger. My Little Pony fanfiction could get dark...) so we’ll see there. I’ll also add that we’ve started Taiga, but we’ll probably hold off on watching all of it in a few sessions like we normally do since we were originally just going to wait to watch it until the movie was out and subbed. I’ve seen Ultras from earlier series thanks to movies (like Saga, Mega Monster Battle, Ginga S, ect.), Orb Origins (since Gaia, Agul, and Dyna (I think it was Dyna) were in that), and occassional episodes in series, (Like the X episode where Nexus shows up a bit, not that he does much, I don’t think Ginga counts as a good example of Taro and something tells me we won’t see too much of him or anyone other than the Tri-Squad in Taiga).

Heisei Ultraseven!
Heisei Ultraseven is a strange series. It’s essentially set in a world where none of the other M78 series ever took place and Seven was the only being of his kind to ever visit Earth. The series takes place 30 years after the original with a new bunch of TDF members in the Ultra Garrison. After years away, Ultraseven returns to help defend the Earth once again.
This isn’t the only Ultraseven AU though as the end of Ultraseven X from 2007 shows another universe were Dan and Anne apparently are a couple.

Costume ideas for Halloween 2018: Ultraman
Up next for costume suggestion ideas are ones that hail from the Fandom of Light and the outer depths of space.
Ultra Nyan
Yeah, Yeah, you know I had to start with this one. But can you blame me? He is such a cute widdle kitteh!
Now, there are several ways to approach the idea of Ultra Nyan:
First is the mascot costume method, making a suit like the mascot used at the now defunct Ultraman Land theme park. There are plenty of online suppliers to help in this endeavor, just google “Custom Mascot Costume” or “White Cat Mascot” to find a base template and modify from there using existing images, some carefully placed red clothing dye and a custom tail attachment and a button on the chest to finish it.
Carry a plush. You could go dressed as a Japanese student such as Nyan’s owner Haruka (albeit a bit older) and make a custom homemade plush of Ultra Nyan to carry around in a basket, in a backpack or in your arms.
Catgirl maid. For hardcore otaku fans, one possible option is a Ultra Nyan maid outfit. Make a dress with the red and white patterns, get some red and white neko ears, a neko tail, a custom wig or hairdo and custom color timer and tail parts for the costume.
Dress up your kitty! Depending on the temperament of your pet, this could go well or very badly. But make a little costume using string and fabric and then show how cute he/she looks to all the trick or treaters who come to your door! Also, pro-pet costume safety tip, never use costume paint! That could make your cat sick or suffer badly due to skin irritation, not to mention it would be very hard if not impossible to get off.
Ultra Kaiju Girls
A spin-off of Ultraman, Ultra Kaiju Girls asks the weird question of what if Kaiju from that series were revived as cute humanoid high school girls. There are certainly a lot of options to chose from: King Joe, Zetton, Gomora, Eleking etc.
I suggest if this be your choice to research the spin-off material such as the anime, the translated manga by Seven Seas Entertainment and promotional art for designs. Search the lore of the Ultra Series and let your imagination run wild! Find your inner kaiju!
Super Fighter Ultras
Ultraman Mebius (equipped w/ Phoenix Armor)
Once upon a time in the 1990s, Ultraman tried to ride the wave of popularity of Dragon Ball Z by doing a similar shonen action approach in a spin-off manga and OVA. It was called Ultraman: Super Fighter Legend and its premise was that Ultras could now enhance thier powers with special battle suits (so a sort of precursor to Ultraman X). You’ll need: a pre-made Ultraman suit, sculpting tools or 3D molds, paint, LEDs and circuits and other assorted materials.
Don Shine
Ultraman Geed’s favorite superhero show character, an homage to heroes like Kamen Rider.
Here is a sample cosplay outfit online, which you can either attempt to buy or use the images to give you a general guideline of what goes where during assembly. Alternatively, you could make some style changes such as creating a Showa style or early Heisei era style suit variant or even a female version. Hmm...a Dawn Shine, would be more Pretty Cure than Rider based on how that sounds.
Crew GUYS uniform
GUYS SALLY GO!
G.I.G.!
The defense force team of Ultraman Mebius.
For those not in the mood for arts and crafts and want a quick toku costume for a party, here is a good solution. Due to Ultraman Mebius having a presence in the west, cosplay stores are all but too happy to provide an outfit for you at semi-reasonable prices. Just remember the measurement sizing differences of East and West before purchase and be careful where you buy.
Ultra Cap
Something found on Pinterest, and its not a bad idea! Credit to creator Willaim Knowles.
The MCU’s Ant-Man was designed with Ultraman as a noted influence, so that begs the question of what would have happened if another Marvel MCU hero took inspiration from Japan’s most celebrated kaiju busting superhero.
Some have done mash-ups of Kamen Rider with Cap (I’ve even seen one such cosplay up close at Japan World Heroes 1), but who is to say other J-hero designs couldn’t work for the Sentinel of Liberty? There are plenty of designs that can make an Ultra-fied version of Steve Rogers work.
Free Possible Example: Mix elements of Gridman Sigma, Ultraman Chuck, (Or Scott), Tiga and a stylized variant of X’s Cyber Bemstar Arm Shield and you will have a prize winning costume!
Well, that is all the costumes I can think up for inspiration to fans this year, hope these posts inspired you to make your halloween exicting!

youtube
allow me to wax poetic about why i love this video so much. the blond with the guitar onstage is Takeshi Tsuruno, the actor who played Dyna's human host on 1997 Ultra installment Ultraman Dyna.
That is my birth year Ultra, and although I don't have a Kamen Rider for my birth year I appreciate the superheroes (as a zodiac-esque kind of thing) I do have. That said I am waiting to watch Dyna, as if looking for some cosmic sign or mental switch to just go and do it. However, when I do watch I will have some level of comfort in knowing how it ends, because of the movie I watched already.
Ultraman Saga is a movie about how combining the strengths of many create a force greater than any one person combined. This is shown after the three Ultra heroes (Zero, Dyna, Cosmos) fuse into the titular Ultraman Saga, Saga's power alone is not enough to defeat Hyper Zetton. Only with the quick thinking and tricks laid out by the Earth Defense Team (played by members of actual idol group DiVA), can Saga beat Hyper Zetton.
It is in that movie that I first heard this same song in the above video, "Kimi Dake Wo Mamoritai" or "Only You Will I Protect." I was enthralled by it, and looked it up, and read about how it was the first ending song of Ultraman Dyna, but Tsuruno sang it often on the set because he liked it so much. He covered it around the time Dyna ended, in 1998, and that launched his music career in addition to acting.
Fast forward to the Saga movie, around 2014, when he's had time to mature as a musician and develop his voice more. It was actually written into the movie plot that Tsuruno's character loved singing that song; one of the members of DiVA also covered it because her character was inspired by Tsuruno's character. Out of all the iterations of this song available, Tsuruno's second cover is the version I still prefer above all, even moreso than the original song. Which will bleed into why I love this video even more.
Onstage, in addition to Tsuruno and his backup vocals, are suit actors waving and dancing as four Iconic Ultras. The one with the diamond on his forehead is Dyna. The one with two gray boob-shaped markings on his chest (at least I always think the markings resemble them) is Ultraman. The one with one head crest is Ultra Seven, and the one with two forehead crests is Zero, Seven's son.
The reasoning behind choosing Dyna is the most obvious, he is Tsuruno's character's partner in the tv show and film. This is doubly confirmed when his dancing mirrors that of Tsuruno's moves; the two are in sync as all good Ultra and human host couples are.
Ultraman is onstage because he was the first Ultra character in the series, way back in 1967. His show is technically the second season but many consider it to be the first one, because its predecessor, Ultra Q, featured the stock Earth Defense Team fighting the kaiju, but no Ultra figure secretly (or perhaps unsubtly) protecting them as well. He is onstage perhaps because diehard fans would feel ripped off if he weren't.
Ultra Seven is there because although Man is the titular character, Seven was the most popular Ultra figure back in the first era of Ultraman. Seven is looked up to as inspiration by many people, including wrestler Shinsuke Nakamura.
Look at him hugging Ultra Seven. He's so happy to meet his childhood hero.
Ultraman Zero, as you might remember from before, was one of the Ultra warriors besides Dyna who fused into Saga. If that was the case, one might ask, then why isn't Cosmos up onstage with them?
Well, I would respond. The totally blue Ultras are exponentially less popular than the red Ultras. Cosmos happens to be mostly blue. Zero is half-and-half, Dyna is approximately half-and-half, and Man and Seven are both red. Suit design goes a long way into affecting the popularity of each alien Tsupro designs, which I won't get fully into rn. Even without factoring in Zero's hot design, there are other reasons he's up on that stage and not Cosmos.
Zero is the son of Ultraseven, first introduced to the Series in a 2009 movie with a title longer than probably many you've heard. To do a mini-tangent here, I love the long Ultra movie titles. They are essentially saying to anyone who hears: "It matters not how long our movie names are. We could make them even longer and people would still flock to theaters because they love what we do and we make sure to put the utmost level of care and love into crafting beautiful & enjoyable narratives."
Zero was introduced as a "taking the baton/torch from Seven" type of hero. He's from a different era; he's got an updated design that resembles his father enough to be distinguishable. Actually, he was designed as the next generation's "most popular Ultraman" which is proved by the concrete evidence: Tsupro chose award-winning voice actor Mamoru Miyano (Light from Death Note) as Zero's voice. And (if stage shows are to be taken as extended canon), Zero's human form as well. Miyano has success in singing, dancing, acting, and voice acting along with his own fashion line.
So, he could definitely bring success to Zero by giving the character a voice that brings in a lot of fans.
Enough success to make Zero the iconic Ultra of his era, and bridge the gap between eras through blood relation. It is not mistake that the Iconique Ultras from both eras (Showa and Heisei) are related: in fact that might be a power move on Tsupro's part. They are bringing back old fans as well as dragging in new ones. They are trying to unite their fans by connecting the generations, a theme which is returned to in the finales of many recent-era seasons: united people can together defeat the final boss. Somehow. Everyone working together no matter how old, those endings always get me right in the heart. And it's that sense of heart, of belongingness that keeps me returning to the show.
The Love is Stored in the Ultra Series.
Welp. That explains the four aliens onstage, and part of why they're there. Now on to more things. The red lighting early in the beginning is reminiscent of the Showa era episode titlecards, which had a red or black silhouette of an ultra or kaiju against a black or red background. This performance mimics that as best it can, showing the suit actors in red lighting which makes them seem almost like blue silhouetted themselves. Actually, this is a deliberate inversion of its own popular trope, and might have been breathtaking to a fan sitting in the crowd.
During the performance, there were clips from the Ultra Series playing on a projected screen behind Tsuruno and the suits. They had clips from-- what exactly, I don't know, but now I am curious to find out. Placing that screen of clips serves a triple purpose: inciting curiosity about the Ultra Series, reminding experienced fans of the cool stuff that went down in the show, and adding awesome fight scenes as a backdrop to some of those Warriors waving, thumbs-uping, dancing, and playing air guitar. So there's a nice contrast there.
I love Dyna so much and I love Ultraman so much. Thanks for reading if you've made it this far
#this is dyna#this is only a long post if you're a coward~#jk i will tag it oroperly this time#long post
