I need people to stop glorifying the 4B movement in Korea, from a Western (white) perspective. Stop it. If you are blissfully unaware of this (having not been on TikTok) - in theory, it makes sense. No sex with men, no dating men, no child rearing with men, and no marriage with men. But. BUT. Feminists in Korea are problematic AF. I know this from both personal experience (having been on the receiving end of their ire online) and everything I've read about them, in Korean. I see all these white TikTokers (and even some in the Korean diaspora) fawning over how "we" in the US need this and, no. If your feminism is transphobic, hates gay men, hates men in general, that's not the feminism I'd endorse. Why is Korean feminism transphobic? In 2020, Korean feminists ACTIVELY CAMPAIGNED AGAINST a woman who was accepted to Sookmyung University. An all womens' university. But she was a woman, you say. What could be their problem? According to Korean feminists, they didn't want a "man" in their space. Because she is a trans woman. This is not unusual for Korean feminists. Having lived there for 5 years, to some extent, I understand their anger against misogyny. But if you are truly against the toxic patriarchy that exists in Korea, you must also help dismantle military conscription because that is where a lot of men become radicalized, bullied, etc etc and "grow up" to be the most toxic form of men seen on this earth. But Korean feminists don't give AF about that and in fact, I've read a lot of them express that it's good for men to suffer. Guess what? That view is internalized misogyny and toxic patriarchy, too. And I don't want to hear it about the movement being so "young". Korean women have stepped up to the plate before in our history. We are capable of better than this fucking nonsense. It's a bunch of transphobic, gay hating radicals that have hijacked what was supposed to be about social justice. WOMAD (link is to the Wikipedia article, not their site) and Megalia are the two sites they stem from. It is the most toxic group of people I've ever had the displeasure to encounter online. Any form of criticism is, at best, ignored and worst - I've been "called out" for being Korean-American, and therefore, to "butt out" of "Korean issues". Amongst other bullying I've personally received. And yes, not just on forums but on public articles that I've commented on.
I know it's a catchy title and it appeals in theory but please, please do not glorify these transphobes and TERFs. They don't deserve your attention.

I think if you are creating or crafting an Arcane OC with Zaunite origin, the name is actually one of the most essential character design choices you make about them. If you look at the naming conventions of the Zaunite characters, you see a broader trend that names tend to be evocative and practical with a lot of personality/character, poetry, and edge. It's worldbuilding in miniature.
Ekko is both sound and memory, reflecting his abilities and purpose. Powder is fragile yet volatile, encapsulating innocence and destruction, while Jinx claims curse and misfortune. Vi is short and punchy, like a jab or strike that knocks the breath from your lungs, reflecting her combative nature. Silco threads silk into the name, hinting at smoothness, delicacy, and fabric, which is fitting considering his vision of weaving Zaun together. Sevika is of Indian origin which means "a woman employed to advise and assist in matters of community welfare and development" (thank you @tykobrian for the hint)
So, names in the undercity tell a story about their bearer and carry a lot of cultural and personal texture. And that makes sense if we compare Zaun's social structures to Piltover's: In Piltover, family names carry significance. Kiramman, for example, comes with a legacy and status from birth. Talis, on the other hand, if we consider Jayce's arc of season 1, positioned him in a lower position within Piltover, and he needed the patronage of the Kirammans and later the benevolence of Mel to facilitate his societal rise. Because of his less privileged name, Jayce needed several beneficiaries to unlock his achievements - hard work alone wasn't enough, while Viktor was disqualified from this game entirely.
Hence, in Piltover, names are about lineage, coming with access in the social hierarchy and privilege; in Zaun, names tend to be about character and personal history, individuality with a reflective and even introspective edge. In Zaun, names reflect the self, not the system. In a world where your birth doesn’t guarantee rights or recognition, names become deeply personal, even defiant. They’re about carving out an identity in a space where formal existence might not even be acknowledged as the lack of last names of the undercity characters implies. This absence of surnames reinforces Zaunites’ statelessness and marginalization—your name doesn’t connect you to a House or a legacy; it connects you to yourself, your community (Sevika's and Silco's names are related or nod at the roles they play for their people) and the purpose you carve out for yourself.
Like, I have grown quite attached to my Jedi OC Narah, and intended to translate her into the Arcane universe, and while the name would probably work in this new setting (I just assembled sounds that feel sensorily pleasing for my autistic brain - I have a thing with phonemes), considering the cultural and local texture and layers you can enrich a character with, I made the decision to let go of that name I've grown so attached to and rename her Haze - capturing the literal smog of the undercity, as well as metaphorical obscurity, while also hinting at something transient. It carries so much duality—beauty and danger, clarity and confusion—which all grasp so many facets of what I want to do with this character...

New to Tumblr, going to start dumping some of the stone carving that I've done here.
This big slate carving is based on a design from the Book of Kells, all hand carved with hammer and chisels.

Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out.
If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately. How to Turn off Word’s AI Access To Your Content
I won’t beat around the bush. Microsoft Office doesn’t make it easy to opt out of this new AI privacy agreement, as the feature is hidden through a series of popup menus in your settings:On a Windows computer, follow these steps to turn off “Connected Experiences”:
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings > Optional Connected Experiences > Uncheck box: “Turn on optional connected experiences”

every few days I have a moment where I think about gay trans men in history who couldn't find the safety or community of butch lesbian identity because of their love for men, and how they coped and how they lived and if they felt alone and if they got to be happy and I want to start throwing rocks at people's windows
