Genshin Character Names' Meanings
Hello there! So, I remember I once saw a post about meanings of some characters' names in another fandom, and while some of those names probably were given to those characters just because they fit, some of them certainly were chosen for their meaning, and well, it was just interesting to read! And yeah, here I am, in today's series of "I have freaking nothing else to do" I brought you a list of meanings for Genshin characters' names (today only Travelers and Mondstadt).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aether | Comes from the highest air layer - where the gods live, and from the god who embodies it in Greek mythology; Also not sure whether it's connected, but fun fact: in Latin "Iter" means «Journey»
Lumine | Literally «Light» in Latin
Kong (Chinese Aether) | «Heavenly», «Air» or «Sky» - Chinese Name
Ying (Chinese Lumine) | Literally «Glimmer», «Twinkling» or «Light» in Chinese and a Chinese Name
Sora (Japanese Aether) | Literally «Sky» in Japanese and a Japanese Name
Hotaru (Japanese Lumine) | Literally «Firefly» in Japanese and a Japanese Name
Paimon | Comes from King Paimon, the 9th of Goetia Demons
Amber | Well, in her case it obviously references her eyes that carry that color, and it is also similar to the word «ember», which underlines her being a Pyro wielder; Also «Fierce» as an originally Arabic or Celtic Name
Kaeya | «Monsoon Flower» - Sanskrit Name
Lisa | «God's Promise» - German Name
Jean | «God is Gracious» - Originally French Name
Barbara | Although in our world it is believed to come from barbarians, in context of Genshin she might've been named so after Barbatos, the Archon rulling over her nation. It also makes sense considering how her father also serves at the church; Also «Foreign», «Strange» as an originally Greek Name
Diluc | Comes from «diluculum» - Latin for «Dawn»
Noelle | «Christmas» - Originally French Name
Klee | Literally «Clover» in German
Albedo | Term for the fraction of sunlight that is diffusely reflected by a body; also a Latinicized alchemical term meaning «Whiteness» and «Purification»
Sucrose | A chemical element, also known as C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁, or just sugar
Mona | «Solitary», «Adviser» or «Wish» - German Name
Fischl | Considering German grammatics, literally means «Little Fish»
Amy | «Beloved», «Dearly Loved» - German Name
Bennett | «Blessed» - Originally French and Latin Name
Rosaria | «Rosary» or «Wreath of Roses» - Derives from originally Latin Name Rosarius/Rosarium
Diona | «Goddess» or «From the Sacred Spring» - German Name
Eula | Could be based on the german word for owl Eule or the German Name Ulla which means «Will»
Mika | «Who is like God» - German Name
Venti | Sounds similar to the word «windy», also literally «Winds» in Italian
Barbatos | Comes from Duke Barbatos, the 8th of Goetia Demons
Crepus | Comes from «crepusculum» - Latin for «Dusk»
Seamus | «Supplanter» - Originally Irish Name
Frederica | «Peaceful Ruler» - German Name
Alice | «Noble» or «Exalted» - Originally German Name
Rhinedottir | Originally Rhine was a name for someone who lived by the Rhine river in German, yet the word itself originates from the word 'renos', which means «Flowing Water» or «Raging Flow»; meanwhile "dottir" is «Daughter» in Icelandic
Barbeloth | May derive from the Gnostic aeon Barbēlō, a supreme, androgynous entity in Gnosticism known as God's first thought, being his "feminine aspect" and the Mother-Father of the aeons
Nicole | «Victory of the People» - Originally French Name
Varka | Likely based on the Old Persian 𐎺𐎼𐎣 (varka), meaning «Wolf»
Decarabian | Comes from Marquis Decarabia, the 69th of Goetia Demons
Dvalin | Comes from a dwarf in Old Norse tales, meaning «The Dormant One» or «The One Slumbering» (akin to the Danish and Norwegian "dvale" and Swedish "dvala", meaning «Sleep, «Unconscious Condition» or «Hibernation»).
Durin | Overally associated with a dwarf named Durin, who is also from Norse tales, though some say it is of Latin origin and means «Firm», «Enduring»
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah, here it is! I know, I basically made a compilation of things you can find yourself in Google, buuuuuut in case you were too lazy or not curious enough to do so, I did so in your stead! And I have to admit that those are not names of my homeland, and I may not know all their variations or significance, yet I'm still interested, and I'll be happy if you're willling to correct me. And maybe I will even dig in deeper into the topic next time!
So, see you!
Edited: Yeah, I added a few more meaningful characters and Travelers' names on other languages + a few other tiny additions. I think now it seems a little more complete. Next up is Liyue!

Fanchild: Ulla Felmier + Lavern Hunt
*This is set in a neutral setting where nobody’s in a relationship yet.
[Notes]
• How did they come to NRC? Uhh… Multidimensional time rip. Epel and Rook were going their merry ways until *BOOM* child falls from the sky and into their arms.
• Rook and Epel are quite pleased to know they could have a family in the future. Though Epel may seem flustered and in denial of wanting to be a father at first, the idea of having children of his own and letting them take over the farm is appealing. As for Rook, he’s fine with having children or without! Lavern’s existence doesn’t scare him a single bit.
• With Epel’s pre-established crush on Cloche, his heart is jumping in joy. He was initially iffy about finding out who exactly the other parent was, until he saw the white tail that resembled Cloche’. In his mind, there couldn’t possibly any other beastmen who matched the description! Jack may have white fur, but he’s a wolf. Ulla continues to give Epel hope that someday, the cat maid might like him back. Epel did want a son, but Ulla was too cute to resist.
• Oh là là! Who would have thought that the Hunter of Love would be struck by his own arrow in the future? When he first saw Lavern, his impressions were ‘Who is this lost child?’ Instead of Lavern immediately clinging on to his father, like Ulla, Lavern was less than happy to fall into the arms of a ‘stranger who looked very much like his dad’. Even without Lavern addressing Rook as ‘Papa’, it didn’t take long for Rook to deduce that the boy was his child and Cloche’. Instead of Epel’s eagerness, Rook felt intrigued. In all his time of observing Cloche, never had he ever considered her to be anything but ‘that underclassmen’.
• How is Cloche coping? She’s not. Questions like “When were they born” “Why are there two of them from different parents?” “Does this imply I’m never leaving Twisted Wonderland?” “Did I give birth to them?” and “Is this going to blow my cover?” are all running wild. Cloche is aware of her …questionable views of family, and would much rather not have a child, than be a bad parent.
[Ulla Felmier]
• Epel originally wanted a son, but his disappointment in having a daughter disappeared when he held her as a baby for the first time. Epel cracked when Ulla’s tiny hand curled around his finger, realizing how tiny and precious she was.
• Ulla is spoiled— and I mean, sPOILED. Not just by her parents, but by those around her. That’s right, she has pretty privilege (mostly inherited from her dad). It also didn’t help that Harveston dotes on Ulla, almost as much as they did Epel. Ulla is well-behaved until backs are turned and eyes are closed. Ulla may come off as lazy, and carefree, but she can be quite cunning.
• The braided green toque and red overalls is supposed to represent a poisoned apple. Even when she’s not in Harveston, or if it’s not cold out, Ulla still prefers to wear the toque because it hides the fact she doesn’t have ears. Ulla might not show it, but she’s the most insecure about not having ears like other beastmen.
• Inherited Cloche’ loose morals, and Epel’s adventurousness.
• Definitely picked up on the Harveston dialect. Ulla and Epel communicate with each other in it behind Cloche’ back for special ‘father-daughter bonding time’. And by that… Epel secretly baking sweets for Ulla, and letting her go on the ‘grown up’ sleds. Epel would also have taught Ulla self defence, which later turned straight up fighting tactics.
• In Ulla’s eyes, Epel is the manliest and beefiest Pop in the world. This causes some confusion when she gushes about how ‘manly’ little fluffy rabbits, and baby chicks are.
[Lavern Hunt]
• Rook is more than happy to have such an uncommon type of beastman for a son. But of course, if he hears anyone commenting about Lavern’s lack of a tail, then bow strings are about to be plucked. When Rook first saw baby Lavern, he couldn’t help but laugh because of how funny the boy looked, but loves him regardless.
• The type of child who has to see everything for himself, to truly believe. Will not back down unless given a reason (he can understand) to. Impatient, but will put in the work needed to get the results he wants. Other kids find it hard to work with him. Additionally, it takes Lavern a long time to adapt to change and accept it.
• Cloche wanted to dress Lavern up nicer, but compromised to let Lavern wear sandals/slides/flip flops because of comfort. The footwear is also a subtle nod to Afterglow Savanna’s hot weather.
• Inherited Cloche’ skepticism, and Rook’s stubbornness.
• When disciplined, Cloche always speaks to Lavern in the same neutral tone and expression, whilst Rook has a wider range. Rook can maintain a soft smile while chiding Lavern, to showing disapproval on his face through narrowed eyes and furrowed brows. The moment Lavern notices Rook’s smile is gone, that’s when he actually feels like he’s messed up.
• Can only understand Rook’s French, but not speak it. Over time, Lavern also grew accustomed to all the big, flowery words Rook throws around— thus expanding his vocabulary quicker. With Cloche’ preference of academics, and Rook’s love of poetry, it’s no surprise that Lavern is the Spelling Bee king.

okay so hugo and varian as wolfwalkers. who bites who
OH UR NOT EVEN READY. IVE BEEN SITTING ON THIS AU FOR MONTHS!!!!!!!!! had 2 scour a discord chat for stuff bc i KNOW i’ve talked about this before and i was right hehe. OK LISTEN UP!!!!!!
k so. donella is a wolfwalker and has been since before she could remember. she accidentally turns ulla when they’re teens but it works out fine bc ulla thinks this is awesome so everything seems cool for awhile. and then ulla gets w quirin and she has varian etc etc u know the drill but all the while she keeps the fact that she’s a wolfwalker hidden from quirin. UNTIL. one day she ends up getting killed by a wolf hunter while she’s in her wolf form. donella sees it happen and has to go tell quirin. oof ouch. then she moves faaaaar away to try and move on. varian ends up not being a wolfwalker and quirin is like oh thank god. but lol sorry man that wont last long. and then the events of tts happen as normal varian commits crimes and goes to jail quirin gets amberified etc. then post tts varian is struggling to fit in and move on cuz he’s got no friends his age and most people in town don’t like him bc of his history and he just feels very lonely and like he doesn’t belong anywhere. and one day he’s just kinda hanging out in the woods outside old corona and he stumbles across a wolf. the wolf is hugo ofc. hugo backstory in a moment. so hugo sees him and assumes oh shit human in the woods he’s gotta be a hunter so he instinctively attacks him and bites him on the arm, before quickly realizes wait nvm this person has no weapons and obviously wasnt expecting 2 see me so he jumps off him and runs away. but too late varian has already been bitten. so he starts doing wolfwalkery shit and is freaking out and trying to figure out what’s going on while keeping is a secret from his dad. meanwhile donella finds out what hugo did and basically tells him to get lost bc he’s too irresponsible and put them both at risk by changing someone who was supposed to be uninvolved in this. and for reference hugo got changed into a wolfwalker by donella when he was a kid bc she figured it would make him a more effective spy/conman. now he can kill people as a person or as a wolf haha 2in1 bonus. so anyway hugo goes back and finds varian and meets him while in human form and tries to be like heyyyy hi i have absolutely no ulterior motives for talking to you. btw have you been having any weird dreams lately. and they sort of hate each other for awhile bc hugo blames varian for being the reason donella kicked him to the curb and varian is mad at hugo for biting him. and wait you know what would be funny what if donella wants to kill varian bc she sees him as a liability and what if she says hey hugo u can redeem urself if you kill him for me bc i know he trusts u and then uh oh choice time. meanwhile both varian and hugo and constantly trying to not get murdered by wolf hunters (quirin probably for extra angst) (maybe idk cass or eugene too even more angst) (this is excessively long) (have a good day)

Grishaverse reference
Hi Grishaverse moots, idk if someone has already done this before and if they have, sorry, guess we've got two cakes now.
I recently finished reading lb's written version of Lives of the Saints and I have many thoughts. The following are my guesses on nation of origin and grisha power for the saints mentioned in the book, based on the stories provided. There isn't a ton of information, but these are my best guesses, feel free to put these interpretations in your fics!
Also lb's grasp on Russian is tenuous at best, so keep in mind that this list is written letter for letter the way the chapters were titled, not the way these names would be properly spelled.
Sankta Margaretha - Kerch, likely Durast
Sanka Anastasia - Ravkan, likely Healer or Alkemi
Sankt Kho - Shu, Durast
Sankta Neyar - Shu, Durast
Sankt Juris of the Sword - presumably Ravkan but he dates back to before Ravka was a country, his story references one of his miracles not his actual story of sainthood so his Grisha designation is unknown, we do know that he's a two-souled Grisha bonded with the Dragon
Sankta Vasilka - probably Ravkan due to her being described as the first firebird, likely a two-souled Grisha with a firebird, maybe a Durast or Squaller
Sankt Nikolai - unclear nationality due to his being on a ship from an unknown port, potentially Ravkan, Squaller, maybe an Alkemi too
Sankta Lizabeth of the Roses - Ravkan, maybe a Durast, maybe a two-souled Grisha with bees, maybe an Alkemi with plants
Sankta Maradi - Zemeni, Tidemaker or Squaller
Sankt Demyan of the Rime - Fjerdan, Durast
Sankta Marya of the Rock - Suli, Durast
Sankt Emerens - Kerch, maybe Alkemi or Heartrender
Sankt Vladimir the Foolish - Ravkan, Tidemaker
Sankt Grigori of the Wood - Ravkan, Healer, potential Durast, two-souled Grisha with a bear
Sankt Valentin - unknown nationality, potential Squaller or Heartrender, potential two-souled Grisha with a snake
Sankt Petyr - Ravkan, potential Inferni or Heartrender
Sankta Yeryin of the Mill - Shu, likely Durast or Alkemi
Sankt Feliks Among the Boughs - Ravkan, likely Alkemi, the Thornwood grew where he died, two-souled Grisha with a hawk
Sankt Lukin the Logical - unknown, potential merzost-using Healer or Heartrender
Sankta Magda - Ravkan, Healer or Alkemi, maybe secondary Squaller gift, saved Grisha children from pyres
Sankt Egmond - Fjerdan, Durast, forced to create the Ice Court
Sankt Ilya in Chains - Ravkan, merzost-using Durast, potential Healer/Heartrender too
Sankta Ursula of the Waves - from an area in Fjerda where she is called a princess but we known her mother is Baghra and her father a sildroher, making her half-sildroher half Ravkan, Tidemaker
Sankt Mattheus - unknown nationality, Alkemi or Heartrender, turned wolves into dogs, possible merzost using Heartrender or two-souled Grisha with a wolf
Sankt Dimitri - unknown nationality, likely a merzost-using Healer or Heartrender (or a Squaller playing a joke due to his? skeleton being found in a room still praying and also talking)
Sankt Gerashim the Misunderstood - likely Ravkan, potential Durast, his vow of silence makes me think it's more likely that he was attacked and made mute because it says he stopped talking at 15 and didn’t say a word in his defense before he died
Sankta Alina of the Fold - Ravkan, Sun Summoner, obviously
The Starless Saint - Ravkan, Shadow Summoner, obviously
Extra thoughts I had reading the book:
“Half of novokribirsk was lost” - this is how the Darkling moving the Fold was described so I guess we have a better grasp on where the Fold moved to and how many people died
The story with Alina isn't about her own sainthood but about people praying to her, specifically Grisha children who are being sold to Kerch slaver, what a surprise that Alina didn't fix everything governing Ravka (I am bitter as hell and this is sarcastic)
Ulla being described as a princess is odd because what is she the princess of?
We know that dragons and sildrohers exist in the grishaverse but nebulous "demons" are also mentioned as taking over people's bodies. It's unclear how real these might be or whether they were trauma responses or mental health issues.
A ton of these people are hermits, likely because it helped hide their powers.
Lots of saints being accused of conspiring with the “demons,” lots of the saints are described as “witches.”
The prose feels like I’m reading propaganda written by the Apparat. ex: All the saints are described as pious and this is what their actions are attributed to despite clearly being the result of Grisha powers.
It's interesting to me personally lb even included Aleksander or allowed a story to exist that showed how his expansion of the Fold benefitted a Ravkan citizen.
Most Saints are described as weak and sickly, wonder why that is (wasting sickness from hiding their powers).
The Tula valley was desolate before the Fold because Feliks died there and many crops rotted after his death.
A lot of these stories have townspeople and noblemen turning on the saints, also lots of stories of people fighting for royalty then being betrayed by the same royalty (what a sucky trend for Grisha).
Many saints are said to be monks and scholars, this might be Apparat propaganda but it also might be an extension of them being in hiding about their powers.
Lot of saints are Durasts and Alkemi, likely because Materialki powers are the easiest to hide. Possible Etherealki Saints probably didn't survive long enough to be remembered.
A surprising amount of saints were Squallers. This may be because wind is harder to predict than other natural forces and is more likely to be dismissed as nature rather than Grisha power.
Only one saint is a potential Inferni. Probably because it's arguably the most difficult power to hide.
Some of these legends definitely seem older than others because they reference each other and lb does not make it clear where in the historical timeline they fall in relation to each other.
Some of the saints are only described with their miracles not their stories of sainthood, this is a curious choice and I wonder why it was made.
Some of the saints' deaths are written as fade to black while others are described in excruciating detail. Another weird choice.

Hour of the Wolf (Ingmar Bergman, 1968)
Cast: Max von Sydow, Liv Ullmann, Gertrud Fridh, Georg Rydeberg, Erland Josephson, Naima Wilfstrand, Ulf Johansson, Gudrun Brost, Bertil Anderberg, Ingrid Thulin. Screenplay: Ingmar Bergman. Cinematography: Sven Sykvist. Production design: Marik Vos-Lundh. Film editing: Ulla Ryghe. Music: Lars Johan Werle.
Ingmar Bergman's Hour of the Wolf is unquestionably a "horror movie" -- i.e., one filled with incidents and images and narrative details aimed at shocking the viewer. It takes place on a remote island with a mysterious castle. Figures appear who may be either humans or demons. There's a scene in which a man walks up the wall and across the ceiling and one in which a woman peels off first her wig and then her face. The protagonist either murders or imagines that he has murdered a small boy. That protagonist is Johan Borg (Max von Sydow), an artist, who has come to the island with his wife, Alma (Liv Ullmann), to recover after an illness -- physical or mental, we're not told. Johan can't sleep, and Alma sits up with him at night while he tells her about the demons whose images he has sketched, so no wonder that her own mental state becomes fragile. One day, she meets an old woman who tells her that she should read Johan's diary, which he keeps under his bed. She does so, rather like Bluebeard's wife persisting in opening his castle's doors, uncovering some disturbing entries regarding his continued obsession with an old love, Veronica Vogler (Ingrid Thulin). They're invited to a dinner party at the castle by the baron (Erland Josephson), where they meet a variety of unlovely sophisticates and are entertained by a rather bizarre puppet show excerpt from Mozart's The Magic Flute (an opera that Bergman would film, in a less bizarre manner, seven years later). But the climax of the evening comes when the baroness (Gertrud Fridh) takes the Borgs to her bedroom to show off her prized possession: Johan's portrait of Veronica Vogler. From then on, it's a deep descent into madness for Johan and a desperate attempt by Alma to save both of them from self-destruction. The "creep factor" in Bergman's movies is never entirely missing, but Hour of the Wolf cranks it up higher than ever. The problem is that the creepiness is sustained almost to the point of tedium, and with a concomitant loss of credibility. The remote island setting prevents the film from grounding itself in normality, so that the action plays out on one sustained note of oppressive isolation. Hour of the Wolf has many admirers, who rightly point out that Bergman, with the considerable help of his actors and his cinematographer, Sven Nykvist, has crafted a nightmare of erotic obsession with the utmost skill. But I like to compare Hour of the Wolf to another horror movie released the same year, Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby, a "commercial" product aimed at a general audience, which suggests evil things going on beneath the surface of a commonplace urban setting, and ask which is the more successful: the sustained psychological oppressiveness of the Bergman film or the sinister mixture of comedy and shock of the Polanski movie?

TALES OF THE NINE REALMS; WORLDBUILDING
Manipulate
verb ma▪︎nip▪︎u▪︎late
To control or change by artful or insidious means especially to one's own advantage
In Yggdrasil magic is the act of manipulating energy. This energy is known as the thall. Anyone can use magic, to an extent. Some have innate magical abilities that come to them naturally while others have other means to do magic, such as charms, in which case magic has to be learned. Some can do magic with their mind and with intent, some need rituals involving chanting or the use of symbols or charms and talismans, some do magic with a mixture of both intent and ritual or magical objects. Those who can do magic with their mind are seen as more powerful than those who use other means. But no matter the means to achieve magic, magic has a cost. There has to be an equivalent exchange in order to properly manipulate the thall. For innate magic users this can cost them loss of strength and energy or can cost them mutilation of the body or their life depending on the magic they are doing. For ritualistic magic users this can cost them bodily fluids like blood or saliva or can also cost them their life, again depending on the magic they are doing. Magic like Necromancy and Divination costs more than minor temporary illusions. If nothing is offered up willing to pay for the magic then the thall will take what is due which can be dangerous. The thall is unpredictable so it is unwise to let it decide what is taken. The different types of magic includes: Illusions, Telekinesis, Elemental Manipulation, Divination, and Necromancy.
While magic can be used by anyone in Yggdrasil there are only a few groups who possess unique talents. The Shapeshifters possess the ability to change forms. The Seers possess the ability to see everything that is, was, and will ever be. The Witches are innate magic users who are in service either to a royal court or some other higher being.
Magic - the manipulation of a specific energy called the thall
Shapeshifter - possess the ability to change their humanoid form into the form of a common animal at will. In their animal form they are still capable of speech. The shapeshifter animal form is always capitalized as opposed to the non-shapeshifter animal which is lowercase, ex: Wolf (shapeshifter) vs wolf (non-shapeshifter)
Seer - possess the ability to see everything that is, was, and will ever be. Minor seers only have the occasional vision and a prophetic dream from time to time while more powerful ones can see far into the universe and throughout space and time. The three most powerful Seers are:
Umber - an old blind hermit that is often found wondering the woods near the Aleborg River. His eyes are milky white and he covers his eyes with a bandage tied around his head. Could use his psychic abilities to navigate the world but prefers to use a cane or staff
The Watcher - a very mysterious man who is often seen wearing gold plated armor. His eyes are full black with speckles of glittering light as if the night sky is captured within them
Ulla - a haughty woman of ethereal beauty. Her eyes have shimmering gold irises. She is the mother of two of High King Agnar's sons, Thedan and Halden
Witch - title given to innate magic users who work in service either to a royal court or some other higher being, like a god. Witch is usually prefaced by a word to describe the magic user and to differentiate them from other Witches (ex: The Sea Witch or The Raven Witch). This is a job title so more than one person can go by the same name, for example Cormac and Kiera have both been The Raven Witch but not at the same time.

My ‘sweetest’ Favorite 2022

i am SHOCKED that no one has come up with a varigo ‘The Bad Guys’ au yet, the shit practically writes itself
hugo is wolf
varian is diane
nuru is webs
yong is piranha
cyrus is shark
donella is snake
ulla could be professor marmalade
hugo’s the leader of a con group of outcasts who eventually get caught. comes up with the idea for them to ‘pretend’ to be good so that they can get out of jail
varian is some well-to-do guy who was once the most wanted outlaw in all the world until he decided that he didn’t like the person he was and turned over a new leaf to do good, and now believes that hugo and everyone else can do the same
it’s all right there, it’s already written!

"Gods or God, does it matter?" PART 16
Base of the story :
“York is envied by the vikings and during the battle Ivar see a Saxon girl fight with one of his warriors. The protagonist has a brother with the same desease as Ivar.”
Ligeia stays in bed for three days. And during this day, Ulla asks Tida for help, taking care of the domestic chores of Ligeia. Tida asked little about Ligeia's condition, and Ulla was grateful for it. Ivar notices the two ladies come and go, and no sign of Ligeia, not even in the blacksmith shop. On the fourth day, there were some festivities. Ligeia, feeling a lot better thanks to Ingebord medicine, wanted to go enjoy some time with her sibling and eat something other than plants. Ingebord and Ulla weren't really sure about it, she was tired and still weak. So, Ingebord had a solution for her. “If I let you go to the festivities tonight, you stay in bed all day until then?” She proposed her hands on her hips. Ligeia smiles, happy to go out. “I can do that!” She answers with joy. “Great! And if you feel bad or anything you come back here, understand?” The old woman pointed at her with her finger. “Loud and clear!” Stated Ligeia. “Ulla will be there, so you don't need to worry.” She said looking at her friend sitting next to her.
The night has come, Ulla helped her get dressed. And for the first time, she will wear a dress. Ingebord made her a dress with a lot of underskirts, in case she bleeds. And warm one for the cold temperature. The dress was not tight and she feels comfortable in it. Her skin tone is pale because of the lack of sun, sleep, and food in her system. Ingebord gives Ulla, a small grant, with medicine for the pain. “I got something for you.” Announced Ulla, excited to give the present she got for her. She takes something wrapped in tissue and holds it to her. “You didn’t have to, you should keep your money for you.” Said Ligeia shyly. “Don’t worry, the person owes me a favor. Now open it!” She said enthusiastically. Ligeia opens her gift, and her mouth opened. With the tip of her finger, she touches the delicately worked wood. It was a stunning cane, sculpted in a block of black wood, and the handle was a wolf head. “I choose a wolf because of your mother’s family name, so I thought that was a good idea.” Explain Ulla scared of her reaction. Ligeia raises her head and looked at her, her eyes shining. “This is perfect Ulla. I am speechless, this is the most beautiful gift that I ever had! Thank you so much.” She stands and hugs her tightly. “We should go.” Declared Ulla, offering her arm to Ligeia. She takes the cane in her right hand and links her left arm with Ulla’s. “Let’s go!”.
The sound of the door opening gets Ivar’s attention. He looked up and find, Ligeia with a woman he don’t know. It’s been a couple days since he didn’t see her and he starts to worry about her. Seeing that his brother doesn’t listen to him, Hvitserk looks in the same direction. Astrid happy to see her friend, she stands up and runs to her, and crashes into her. Ligeia groans in pain, but she was happy to see her and hug her back. Astrid worried about her reaction step back. “Are you okay? We didn’t see you for days.” The dark hair woman asks. “I feel better, but I have to be careful and not make a lot of effort.” Explain Ligeia without giving the details. “I’m glad you are here tonight! I hope you will be recovered soon.”
Astrid guides them to their seats and goes back to her seat. Her brother and sister on her left, Ulla on her right, and an unknown woman in front of her. Apollo happy to see her grabs her hand and kiss the top of her hand. “I am happy to see you, I missed you.” She offers him a tender smile. “I am happy to see you too, I missed both of you so much. I am sorry that I have to let you alone.” Apollo looks at her sister’s face with attention. She was tired and in pain. “That’s okay, I don’t know what you have because you don’t want to tell me, but I know that you are in pain sometimes and you need help. You need to be taken care of. I just want you to be well.” She caresses his cheek and kisses it and hugs him.
The evening goes pretty good, there is music, people laughing, dancing, drinking, talking loud. That was nice to see people live, enjoy the moment. Later in the night pain comes back, but she tries to hide it. “You, Christian!” Said the woman in front of her. She seems intoxicated, but lucid. Ligeia raises her eyebrows not sure if she was talking to her. “Yeah, you! Aren’t you married?” She asks bluntly, making the room goes silent. “No, I am not.” She answered blankly. “I thought that Christians were supposed to marry and have children!” She said loudly, laughing. Ivar was listening and observing the Saxon behavior. Ligeia lowers her head and her hands turned into fists under the table. “I can’t have kids.” She murmured. The woman in front of her frown not sure of what she said. “What did you say?” She asks. Ligeia looks up and looked at her right in the eyes. “I can’t have kids.” Snapped Ligeia. The woman froze uneasily. Nobody dares to move. Apollo was shocked by the news, he wasn’t expecting that.
“I will never have kids, so I will never get married. Because it isn’t what women are supposed to do? Getting married and having kids? It’s what society asks us. Obviously, it seems that marriage and parenting, are not part of my fate.” She helps herself to stand up by pushing with her hands on the table and when she looks on the bench, she saw blood. She froze, feeling of getting punched in her lower belly, eyes getting watery. Ulla who has stood up in the same takes a glance at what she is looking at. Realizing she takes her shawl off her shoulder and hides the red spot on her dress. “It’s okay, let’s go home.” Said Ulla softly trying to get her attention away from the blood. Ligeia simply nods not here mentally. Ulla gives her, her cane and guides her to the exit covering the back of her dress.
Ivar watches them leave. He can’t believe what he just heard. So he stands up and takes the same way as the two women. Arriving at Ingebord's house, Ligeia burst into tears. “I will never have kids!” She cries breaking the healer and the slave's heart. Ligeia keeps repeating the sentence like a litany. She has never taken to the time to proceed with the information since she finds out. Ingebord approaches her and grabs her by the arms and prompts her to stand up. Ligeia lets herself guide. Ulla helps her take her clothes off and stays only in her undergarment. Ligeia goes to the rest restroom in the backyard, before cleaning her; then she puts her to bed.
A knock on the door makes the ladies freeze and looked at each other in nervousness. With a movement of the head, Ingebord signals Ulla to go see who is it. Ulla grabs the handle and opens slightly the door, just to let the side of her face be visible. Her eyes got big. “It’s Prince Ivar.” She said looking at the two women. “Open the door.” He ordered. Ulla hesitates, Ligeia nods her head. She opened the door and Ivar walks in. Ligeia was sweating and the pain as comes back, making her wince. “What is happening to her?” He asks observing Ligeia, who prefers to look away. “You know what is happening to me.” She said in a breathy tone. “You said that you can’t have children.”
Ligeia sniffs with anger in her eyes. “I am getting infertile every time I got my cycle, happy?” He didn’t say anything, feeling bad for her. “You see, you are not the only cripple here. So now that you have fed your curiosity, please get out.” He doesn’t argue and leaves the little house. Ready to go to bed, he lays in his bed, staring at the ceiling. She can’t have children. He can’t have children.
