How moonlit the night ... It's a very popular Ukrainian romance. The words are written in 1870 by Mikhailo Starytsky. It is said that Mykola Lysenko composed the melody in 1885 as an aria for an opera. But this is a modern parody, a very good political song written after the Russian aggression on Ukraine with new words. The artist appears to be Pavlo Kust. You find the English translation on https://lyricstranslate.com/en/nich-yaka-misyachna-night-so-lunar-actual-version-2022.html

wanted to share a traditional ukrainian song i’ve been digging lately – “Гомін, гомін по діброві” by Хорея Козацька!
(warning for flashing lights bc the screen behind them is acting weird but i love their outfits and the crowd singing in the end)
it’s a cossack song that dates back to the baroque period. cossacks are a complex thing to explain, but i like how this song showcases the diversity of the region and gives you a rough idea of the dynamics within it (also the music is beautiful) :’)
my translation below!
din, din, din in the woods
fog is rolling over the field
oh, the fog, the fog’s rolling over the field
and a mother is casting her son out
“go, my son, go away from me,
may the horde take you!”
“oh, mother, the horde knows me well,
as they ride through an open field, they stay away from me.”
“go, my son, go away from me,
may the turks take you!”
“oh, mother, the turks know me well,
they give me silver and gold.”
“go, my son, go away from me,
may the poles take you!”
“oh, mother, the poles know me well,
they treat me to beer and mead.”
“go, my son, go away from me,
may the muscovites take you!”
“oh, mother, the muscovites know me well,
they are coaxing me into serving under them.”
“come, my son, come back home,
i will wash your hair!”
“oh, mother, the rain will wash my hair,
and thick thorny shrubs will comb it.”
“oh, mother, the rain will wash my hair,
and wild winds will dry it.”

Girls' night out by Chloe Atkins
She came like an ice,
Unavailable and sweet.
Everyone's eyes popped out of sockets,
And everything everywhere became wet.
But she came to her,
And didn't see anyone else.
The DJ just played something
And they floated.
Just like sugar - she and she,
Dance together - she and she,
Just like sugar - she and she,
Just like sugar,
Dance together,
Just like sugar - she and she,
They're gonna be super, super.
Hungry eyes of the boys
Launched their arrows.
Everyone wanted them,
But they didn't want to,
Because she came to her,
And didn't see anyone else.
The DJ just played something again
And they floated.
Just like sugar - she and she,
Dance together - she and she,
Just like sugar - she and she,
Just like sugar
Dance together
Just like sugar - she and she,
They're gonna be super, super.

sometimes when i notice i self-impose the numbness, i sing this majestic piece. it’s more of a hex, really. adressed to you might guess whom.
“Lullaby for the enemy” lyrics translation:
Year after year
over and over again
I sing this lullaby
obey my word
sleep
oh I pity you enemy
for taking this route
you march to death like a madman
sleep
give up anger, give up tiredness
there’s no need in that anymore
you’ll drown in sleep forever
sleep
you’ll sleep in a cold earth
like a child in my womb
you’re captive till the end of times
sleep.

Ok, sorry but I need everyone to know that “Carol of the Bells” is Ukrainian origin.
If you like this song please listen to the original at least once to show respect for the culture 🙏
It’s not a hate post, I love this song in any language, I just want people to know the origins ❤️

a folk song from chapayevka village, chornobyl region
this type of song is called голосіння (holosinnya — "keening"), and they are usually sang by women over the dead body during the period between death and funeral. in this song, the woman is mourning both her dead son, and the land that they were forced to leave due to the chornobyl disaster.
translation under the cut
We went there
The houses are overgrown
Can't see anything over the weeds
Oh my God
Thirty years had passed
Now I can't even recognize
Neither my house, nor my village
Oh my God, oh my God
Oh my son, my nightingale
My son, my little dove
How far they brought us
And I will never come to you again
And will never see you again
Oh, my land, my golden one
My land, my dear one
Oh, how far they brought us
That I can't come to you
Our roads, our paths are overgrown
And our houses, and everything
I can't even recognize
Not the village, nor any of our backyards
We got lost, can't even find our houses
Oh my God, oh my God
