ok I'm not an expert but I'm not seeing much specific info going around here, and there's a lotta Palestine solidarity protests in the UK this weekend, so here is some (including UK-specific) protest info and resources (mostly pulled whole-cloth from Twitter)
policing is heavy at Palestine protests generally
Hamas is a proscribed org under UK law. that means "inviting support" for them or "wearing clothing or displaying articles" that implies you are a supporter is a criminal offence (if you're interested, here's the full list of criminal offences from gov.uk). Palestinian flags etc are ok*, but do not have something that could be mistaken for Hamas imagery. don't go out there looking for convictions pls.
*in spite of what Suella Braverman has implied, the London Muslim Community Forum has just confirmed that the Palestinian flag is not a proscribed flag and is not banned (apologies for quoting the "we advise the met police" group but I thought it was important to have that info explicitly)
don't talk to cops. that includes the police liasion officers in blue bibs.
particularly if you're concerned about your face ending up on social media etc, but also just good practice in general (both in terms of COVID and protest safety)—mask up. cover up tattoos etc.
have bustcards or contact details for protest legal support on you. Green and Black Cross can be contacted on 07946 541 511. write the number on your arm etc.
if you witness an arrest: check if there's a legal observer nearby and if so call them over; if not: if the arrestee doesn't have a bustcard, give them one, find out where they're being taken, and contact eg GBC or a protest support line
if you have the time and can help out, there will likely be arrestee support required after—GBC tend to post callouts on Twitter for this
other links
for particularly children and young people and their families being referred to PREVENT for pro-Palestine statements, contact PREVENTWatch and maybe also Palestine in School (newer initiative I think, I don't have an excessive amount of detail on them just FYI)
Liberty, Migrants Organise and Black Protest Legal Support have bustcards in different languages, including Arabic and Somali (also Liberty's website has lotsa useful info, including advice for disabled protesters, protesting and immigration status, and what to do if you're kettled)
GBC's thread on what to do if you see an arrest is useful, as are all their resources generally
if I've missed anything or made a mistake, lmk—as I said, I am very much not an expert. if you know people who are protesting, pass them the legal support line numbers; if you're attending, stay safe and be vigilant; and ofc carry water.
#palestine#current events#organising#acab#text post#my post#if there is a better post that i haven't seen with up to date uk info pls lmk and i will gladly reblog it#but i know there's ppl on here who aren't on twitter so#also#in my experience#palestine protests both bring out a large group of ppl who maybe have not been to as many 'spiky' protests or don't have#up to date support numbers etc#and bring out people who are targeted by the police bc of race immigration status being perceived as muslim etc#and like i do think the profile of protest safety is higher and people are more aware than they were in general in say 2019#but i still don't think it's as high as it should be#so like#it's worth sharing and passing around#but again i am so much not an expert#this is all taken from people whose jobs is supporting folks who are protesting#please go look them up read their info share their bustcards etc#know your rights#don't talk to cops#no comment no caution no personal details etc

The government has announced that it has deported almost 13,500 people since coming to power, something ministers say proves their tough approach towards migrants but which human rights campaigners have warned could put lives at risk. The government says it is on track to deliver the highest number of returns for five years and includes the four biggest return flights ever. The Observer revealed earlier this month that at least three of these four flights were returns to Brazil, and it is thought the fourth is also likely to be going there. Between 5 July and 7 December 2024, a total of 13,460 returns were recorded, most of them voluntary. But the number of enforced returns rose by 25% compared with the same period in 2023. The Home Office organised deportation flights to at least seven countries, including Pakistan, Nigeria and Albania. Sources in the department confirmed that 37 people were removed on the Pakistan flight. One of those forcibly removed was a refused asylum seeker whose wife was a dependant on his asylum claim. The Home Office removed him but left his wife in the UK. Human rights organisations warned that some of those deported would have been forcibly separated from family members. Emma Ginn, director of the charity Medical Justice, which works to support the health of immigration detainees facing removal from the UK, said: “The new data being celebrated by the government includes real people who have been unable to access legal representation, nor the medical and expert evidence needed to properly present their case, meaning some may face real risk on forced return to their country.

How hiring a UK Immigration Lawyer in India can take the hassle off! Find the right expert today!
Migrating to another country is a life-changing decision, but the immigration process can be complex. No matter where you are applying from, all aspects need to be considered.
The entire process, right from filling out the application form – to submitting it along with other paperwork, every step must be carefully assessed, since visa applications can be refused for many reasons. To avoid this, it is highly recommended to hire an expert to represent you. Immigration experts not only help you with the category that is personally fit for you but also guide you throughout the process, ensuring no mistakes are made, and refusal is avoided.
Immigration experts are constantly updated of the changes made in immigration rules and regulations of different countries. This can help you in applying for the visa route that fits your needs perfectly and offers you benefits.
The visa route you select decides how long you can live in the country for, the activities you can perform, and a lot more. Making it one of the important steps of immigration. Even more important is selecting the right immigration expert for yourself since they will take the hassle off your head and guide you into a smooth immigration process.
How will an Immigration expert help?
It makes a big difference to hire a professional qualified UK immigration lawyer for your UK visa processes because only they will be able to address your needs on a personal level. An expert can personalize your immigration strategy based on your requirements and the purpose of your visit. It is important to ensure that you select a visa category that will allow you to take up activities you went there for, and an expert can help you to do exactly that.
How do they make a difference?!
1. Selecting the appropriate visa category
Experts are equipped with knowledge and recent updates on changes made in immigration provisions related to your case.
This provides a deep insight into how you should go ahead with the process and which route will benefit you more and is suitable to your needs. The entry route you take determines everything related to your trip – the requirements, eligibility criteria, duration of your visit, allowances and permits, etc. Making a mistake in selecting the right visa route can cost you a lot more time and money. Which is why hiring an expert can save the day.
2. Legal guidance into a successful application
Legal guidance is mandatory when it comes to immigration because there’s a lot at stake. For you as well as for the country you are visiting.
For example – you want to enter the UK but have a minor criminal record and you don’t attach it to the application because you think it wouldn’t make a difference, or your visa will be rejected. It will be either way, but an expert will guide you precisely into which documents you must disclose and the others that aren’t necessary.
Moreover, they will guide you in every step of the process, leaving no room for mistakes.
Our UK Qualified immigration lawyers based in India – Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru offer expert guidance in terms of your application, the process of documentation, the protocols that come with it, etc.
We also consult online via Zoom, Skype, and WhatsApp.

Fifteen government departments have been monitoring the social media activity of potential critics and compiling “secret files” in order to block them from speaking at public events, the Observer can reveal. Under the guidelines issued in each department, including the departments of health, culture, media and sport, and environment, food and rural affairs, officials are advised to check experts’ Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts. They are also told to conduct Google searches on those individuals, using specific terms such as “criticism of government or prime minister”. The guidelines are designed to prevent anyone who has criticised the government in the previous three to five years from speaking at government-organised conferences and other events.
[...]
These hidden checks are unlawful, running contrary to data protection laws and potentially breaching equality and human rights legislation. Dan Kaszeta, a chemical weapons expert, was disinvited in April from giving a keynote speech at a UK defence conference after officials found social media posts criticising Tory ministers and government immigration policy. He told the Observer this weekend that he knows of 12 others who have uncovered evidence of similar government blacklisting, most of whom are frightened of speaking out. But he said far more will be unaware they ever failed secret vetting. He said: “The full extent of this is shocking and probably not fully known. I was lucky enough to be given clearcut, obvious evidence. It’s truly awful.”

Imploring you to please consider reducing your cheering of the Lib Dems just because you like their current manifesto. As North Americans, I think we underestimate to what extent everything in England is about social class, and the reason people run or join or vote for Lib Dems are very much about their social class, not about their claimed support of this or that policy. We already had a "Lib Dems are the real left" moment in recent memory when Tony Blair was getting the UK into Iraq, and the surge of hope that ah if only the Lib Dems were in power it would be better. But the perceived superiority of the Lib Dems lasts only until the next Nick Clegg comes along, which he inevitably will.
Hmm. I do not claim to be any kind of UK politics expert, but I think that purely on the face of the policies being proposed--Labour refusing to commit to the substantial investment necessary to rebuild the NHS and other social services, and taking lines similar to the Tories on both immigration and trans rights, versus the Lib Dems not doing that--that the Lib Dems are offering a better political program than Labour is right now.
It's kind of moot because whatever happens the Lib Dems are not going to win this election; at best we get to watch them, the Tories, and Reform fight for the opportunity to be the official opposition--and even if they were soulless capitalists every bit as bad as the FDP, I would still prefer them as the opposition than either the Tories or Reform. But none of these three parties are going to be setting the legislative agenda for the parliament.
I confess, I don't know what you mean about the Lib Dems being "very much about their social class." Do you think their manifesto is a lie? Well, maybe; it seems no more or less likely to be a lie than any other party's manifesto, and short of the candidate they run, the endorsements they pursue, and the manifestos they put out, how are we supposed to judge political parties? Do you think future leaders of the Lib Dems are unlikely to pursue similar programs? Well, maybe. No political party is fixed in stone. The last two Labour leaders, and the programs they have advanced, have been very different from each other. In general I think blind loyalty to political parties is bad; if the Lib Dems switch from promoting relatively good policies to promoting relatively bad policies, then yeah, I'd hope for their success less. But I hope people would take that as read? I hope I've never posted anything that made anyone think, "yeah, this tanadrin person thinks blind loyalty to political parties regardless of their actual policy proposals is a good thing."
What specific harms are you worried about? If you just don't like their vibe, if they're too posh and that rubs you the wrong way, you're barking up the wrong tree--I don't care about vibes. I care about policy. But if you have specific policy concerns, don't be vague.

Do I have a right to talk about the American election as a english person? No. But at this point all we are doing is watching it burn and burn and the fire extinguishers are somewhere but here.
How the hell do people let a CONVICTED FELON become president. He wants to fuck his daughter and a felon?
I swear Hitler is blushing and giggling at watching this. I'm talking history for school no expert because yknow, school history but everyone in my class can see the early signs of a dictator in Trump. And pointed out by a few upperclassmen, similar signs Hitler had, then people ignored.
He actively wants to kick out immigrants. Now you may be thinking;"but he wants illegal immigrants ou-" *loud incorrect buzzer* he said 25 million (I believe could be wrong) there are not that many illegal immigrants there. If I'm right there's currently 13.3 mill in the USA. So where is the 11.7 million coming from? Unless he was was padding up the numbers witch, I guess we all do at times, exaggerate
Similar to a certain dictator im learning about both are against the gays. Well if project 2025 is anything to go about. Talking about that.
They want to control what is being taught in schools. "Woke" this would ,I imagine also include anything against their party. Because wanting to be on the not wanting controlling women's bodies, inforcing Christan nationalism and wanting a future Left if considered woke. Sounds familiar? Treachery Act of 1934. Witch allowed them to punish people who spoke out about the German Reich (Nazi).
The election voting was also very.... Strange, several voting ballots were destroyed, misplaced or out right bribed. Now if this happened in 2020? The Trump voters would be SCREAMING. Begging for a recount until everything is fine. But he won so why care about democracy? Even if he wasn't a horrible excuse or cum and an egg, it would still be right to redo the voting.
I have friends in America who could VERY well be in DANGER because of this. It's not just about my friends but everyone who this effects
But hey, I'm just a teenager in the UK who is an outsider, I'm not from you're country. My facts could be wrong. I'm not saying everything here is the Goispal and is true. Because I'm still a teen I don't understand most laws in the us. I could of got my figures wrong. But even if the rules were made with the purest PUREST intentions, so was article 48 in the Weimar constitution. Meant to led a damaged country during times of crisis so the president didn't have to wait for laws to be passed., then used by Hitler to get what he wants. I'm just saying.
#usa politics#usa#election 2024#boooo trump#history#donald trump#fuck trump#what the fuck America#do better i beg#aren't you already like something like a depression.#well inflation everyone rn#im worried for you lot.#us politics

It's not really a "bizarre twist." It's the likely outcome if Harry has always been in the US on an A-1 visa.
Immigration experts have suggested to Dailymail.com that he may be on an extremely rare A-1 Head of State visa. [...] If he is on a diplomatic visa then he would be taxed, including on that windfall, under the U.K. system. He would only be subject to U.S. income tax on his earnings in America, such as his deal with Netflix, which would have to be reported on an IRS Form 1099-NR. 'The Royal Family wants him to stay on the A-1,' international tax expert Clayton Cartwright told Dailymail.com. 'I think they have common ground wanting him to stay on an A-1. If he's consulted tax advisers then he will be staying on an A-1. 'The A-1 is his golden ticket. If he's on an A-1 he can sit here (in the U.S.) forever. The U.S. would not care.' He added: 'The US has a foreign policy interest in not triggering U.S. tax residency for diplomats. It is good diplomatic practice. 'It keeps private to Great Britain, not just the foreign assets Prince Harry owns, but also other assets of the Royal Family on which he is listed.'
[...] London-based US Immigration lawyer Melissa Chavin has previously told Dailymail.com the Duke could have been on an A-1 Head of State visa, which is used by heads of state and royal family members, since he is fifth in line to the throne. 'It's just extremely special,' she said. 'And the security check is not the same. It's a lower security check. It's a visa especially for members of royal families.' Such individuals are only vetted for espionage, terrorism and 'activities contrary to US foreign policy,' rather than drug use.
The A-1 'Head of State' visa is distinguishable from the A-1 visa, which is for senior diplomats. Holders of an A-1 visa, such as an ambassador, are supposed to come to the U.S. to work as a senior diplomat. But an A-1 Head of State visa holder is free to come to the U.S. without working as a head of state or royal family member.
[archive link]
Of course, keeping Harry on the UK system makes any future divorce more difficult for his wife. It makes it more difficult for the divorce to be governed by California law. Harry while being on a diplo visa in the US makes him not subject to US law, just like the rest of the diplo visas in the country. All of his banking and tax obligations would be under UK law, not US or California law.

Can I just say I love Ncuti Gatwa’s accent
it’s the way he speaks as the Doctor but also i think it might just be his proper voice.
but he sounds so fucking weird (affectionate) and i am so here for it. because he has what i personally call immigrant accent which isn’t a specific accent but it’s the way that immigrants who move to places like the US and the UK change their accents in specific ways as to not lose their original accents but to also be accepted by the society they have joined.
now we can have a whole other conversation about assimilation and respectability politics and the politics of linguistics i’m not an expert but that doesn’t stop me from having opinions. but that’s not what i’m currently talking about.
there isn’t a deeper meaning to why i love the 15th Doctor’s voice aside from that it sounds great and it gives me an extreme sense of familiarity becuase most of my family have immigrant accent that has grown and developed, impacted by every place they’ve lived. no one in my family sounds the same you can hear the depth of their lived experiences in the way their voices lilt in a completely unique way, entirely different from even the people who have known them since birth.
i think immigrant accent is one of the best additions ncuti gatwa can bring to the doctor, not just in the way it makes me feel seen but because someone who been traveling space and time and has been around for upwards of 1200 years shouldn’t have an easily placable accent. someone who has lived so much life with so many people in so many places, someone who carries their experiences with them the way the Doctor does should show how much he remembers and cares by taking on facets of how the people they love speak.
the Doctor’s accent shouldn’t be placable you should be able to make a guess of where they’re from but it should never be 100% certain because the Doctor is an immigrant from gallifrey to earth and as such they should have immigrant accent.
#their accent should by symbolic of the people they’ve loved and lost and how they shape them#they should carry their voices as they carry their memories and share them with all they meet next#doctor who#15th doctor#ncuti gatwa#ncuti!doctor#i love ncuti#dr who#dr who fandom#dr who 60th anniversary#fifteenth doctor#sunshine’s rambles
