Im gonna make a new post about this, coz there are a few people in the tags of the post about the UK Ceasefire vote pushing back against my claim that our current leaders are unelected. Let me explain what I mean by that.

Our last General Election was in 2019, when the leader of the Conservative (Tory) party was Boris Johnson and the leader of UK Labour Party (UKLP) was Jeremy Corbyn. Since then, leadership has changed hand once in the UKLP and twice in the Tories, so now in 2023 the leader of UKLP is Keir Starmer and the leader of the Tories is Rishi Sunak. As the Tory Party are currently in power, this makes Sunak the British Prime Minister.

While its perfectly normal to have leadership changes and cabinet reshuffles within government, the issue lies with the fact that no General Elections have been called alongside these changes. While its not a strict legal requirement to call a General Election when the Prime Minister changes mid-term, it has historically been considered a show of good faith and transparency within politics for new Prime Ministers to call snap elections upon being appointed.

For example, Theresa May was internally elected as leader of the Tory Party mid-term in 2016, and she called a snap General Election in 2017 as a show of good faith to the voters, to allow us to have a fair say in the changes.

Neither Lizz Truss nor Rishi Sunak, the two people who have been internally elected as leader of the Tory Party and, by extension, the Prime Minister, have called an Election. By failing to do so, they have broken the (albeit tentative) good faith previously held between the voting public and the government. Leading theories are that Sunak did not have the confidence that he would win a General Election at that time, so he opted to forego the expectation and remain in power without the consent of the voting public.

This is what I mean when I say our current officials are unelected. They were voted in as MPs for their areas in 2019, but Sunak and his cabinet hold positions of higher power without having consulted the British voting public (and for what its worth, they have been hemorrhaging popularity in recent months to boot.)

So for some more details:

- I am fairly time-poor with a huge amount of commitments: Grownup Job Senior Promotion, three small kids on summer holidays/starting school, writing a novel fanfic for sick friend, peak growing/harvest season at allotment, etc. so im only offering “what I can actually deliver” at this time

- swan comic is a new idea, people like those don’t they? Not sure of how fundraising mechanism would work here but maybe taking prompts?

- not sure how essay would work but it’s probably my best/most appealing skill?

- material items in exchange for a minimum fixed amount. So offline I’m most known for material works. I’m not a BAD printmaker / craftworker and for this I would be looking at designing a sort of limited print run of greeting card style original hand printed prints. I know you guys aren’t familiar with this work from me, so this would involve a bit of trust that An Art from me would be worth at least £5 lmao. However it’s kind of nice to get something real in the mail right??

- super worried about fandom auction so this would be mostly a register of interest that I’d take to more experienced people and use as leverage to start an auction; I’m not in a great place to provide much actual legwork here. I also have huge guilt from like 2000-something where someone paid A HUNDRED AND LIKE 20 DOLLARS to charity for earthquake survivors and I DID NOT FINISH THE FIC AND I HAD to write to them, weepingly, apologising forever about it, and they were so graceful, they forgave me and wrote off my fandom auction contribution, but I had never watched the tv show they requested and was in the process of romancing dr glass and it all went SO wrong, this MIGHT heal my scars of shame from fandom auctions generally OR might make them worse. It itvery hard to write fic actually it’s my worst skill pls don’t pick this

You know how people say that we already have pixal Nya Jay and sora being interested in mechs and technology or smth? That it’s like so many of them have the same hobbie or smth?

I kinda feel like Jay could be excluded from it. I KNOW I KNOW he was introduced as an inventor or smth, but ngl I feel like barley saw him construct or invent stuff through out the series? At least def not as much as Nya pixal or sora. Like Nya and pixal are the samurai x girlies and Nya was even a mechanic before and all that- they were doing much more. And then there’s sora who, yeah you get my point.

This isn’t hate to Jay, im just saying that hes really at least not at the same level as the others or THAT characterized as an inventor or tech guy. Sure he knows some stuff and is kind of interested, I do think naya and him bond over that. But he’s not really part of the group that’s always creating mechs and stuff.

Edit : ok I wanna mek sure ppl understand 😭 I understand that aspect of his character is kind of there, but I myself just feel like the writers didn’t show enough of that side of him which makes me less sure about how we also call him an inventor or tech and all. It’s a cool part of his character and I don’t think they should take that away, I just think they already DID take it away, making it kinda hard to group him with the other girls who have been shown to be much more prominent with that, uk?

HI YES the noniad my best friend the noniad! it is in dactylic enneameter! which as it is used in harrow means every line has nine feet, and each foot can be either a dactyl (— u u) or a spondee (— —), except for the last two in each line which are always — u u | — x (— is a stressed syllable, u is unstressed, and x can be either).

e.g.

I am the | Emperor's | Hand; do | not thou per|sist in this | combat; | matchless am | I with the | long blade—

— u u | — u u | — — | — u u | — u u | — — | — u u | — u u | — —

there is also Often (but not always. but definitely enough that i noticed it) a diaeresis (word ending coinciding with foot ending) after the sixth foot which is. very funny to me. because dactylic enneameter is Not A Thing That Anyone Really Writes In Ever, but dactylic hexameter is the metre of greek and latin epic poetry and tamsyn muir and classics We Know About This. so the sixth foot diaereses + a noticeable number of lines having spondees in the sixth foot means that those lines read like lines of dactylic hexameter with like. an extra bit tagged on at the end. to me. but maybe i have just read too much dactylic hexameter idk

So I had to look up what it meant to get a 3rd in PPE (since that is apparantly the degree the original Elias Bouchard graduated with) but now I'm flabbergasted by the UK university level grading system (if I'm understanding it correctly). I feel like anyone who's about to embark on attempting to type out a character's accent phoentically (at least as well as one can with English) should probably stop for a moment before they get going and ask themselves, "How would I, myself, feel about a fic where the one character who sounds like me had their speech written out like this and every other character just got their dialogue left in standard spelling?" I feel like a lot of people would tone it down a bit, at least, if they'd done that thought experiment first.

(Anyone who answered "but I don't have an accent!" isn't allowed to write out anyone else's accent, ever. This rule may seem harsh but you need it. Really, you do. Because you've never had anyone treat your accent as abnormal or comical or wrong, so you really don't know what you're inflicting on others here.)

One of the schools I work at has a new teacher and she observed my lessons this week to see how they were run. I think we're gonna work very well together :D First thing she told me was basically she wants to organise the classroom because the back room is a disaster and she can't find anything (I was like YES I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR MONTHS THANK YOU). Then she complained that the Japanese teacher she'd observed didn't really use English during her games she basically just used them as an incentive to get the kids to finish the textbook task, so it was more like "okay let's get this boring English over with and then we'll play a game" (which honestly explains a LOT about their attitude). Then when the kids started coming in she said to me "I'm only going to use English with them unless I absolutely have to, because otherwise it defeats the point of you being here" and I'm like yessss finally someone who gets it.

Also she's like 50-something and doesn't take shit from anyone and has basically already told the company they're not going to bully her into working longer hours because she wants to go travelling and have lunch at nice cafes and see her friends but also she has like the calmest vibes ever and was SO patient and calm with the kids, like there is legit nothing that phases that lady and I'm like yesss I want to be you when I grow up.
