Dating the first overall pick was an experience, to say the least. Y/n and Connor had been dating since they were sixteen and she was by his side every step of the way through his hockey career.
When they knew where Connor was going to be drafted, the two of them got this sinking feeling in their stomachs. They didn’t want to do long distance, it would be too hard on both of them. However, there was something that y/n never told Connor.
She applied to the University of Illinois-Chicago on a whim. She didn’t think she would get in, so she didn’t see the point in telling her boyfriend about it. Yet, when she got her acceptance letter, she was troubled. She had never seen the campus, knew nothing about Chicago in general, she didn’t know what classes she would have to take.
But, when she thought about the other schools she had looked at, none of them even compared to being just down the street from where Connor would be every day that he wasn’t on a road trip. None of them were worth being so far away from her boyfriend.
A week after she got her letter she sat Connor down to talk. Connor didn’t like the way y/n sounded when she said, ‘I need to talk to you’.
ू ₒ ु ୨୧ ू ₒ ु
“Con, I need to talk to you.”
Connor’s eyebrows furrowed and sat down on y/n’s couch holding her hand as y/n looked around anxiously.
“Are you breaking up with me?”
“What, no, of course not. There’s just something I have been keeping from you.”
“I don’t know if I should be relieved or more nervous now.”
Y/n laughed nervously, “No, uh. You know how we were talking about how we didn’t want to do long distance?”
“Yeah?”
“We might not have to.” Y/n handed the envelope to her boyfriend and watched his reaction nervously.
Connor had a confused look on his face as he looked at his girlfriend and then at the envelope. He opened and his face was met with the UIC causing him even more confusion.
“You applied to Chicago?” Y/n just nodded her head and urged him to keep reading.
He only had to scan a few lines before he was standing up and looking at the girl, “You got in?”
“Mhm.” Before he celebrated he contemplated the situation. He didn’t want her to move to Chicago just because he was going to be there. He loved her and he wanted her to be there, but he didn’t want her to give up her life for him.
“But what about-”
“‘But what about’ nothing, Connor. I love you and I want to be with you. And if that means going to Chicago with you, I will. Chicago has something no other school doesn’t.”
“What?”
“You, you big dope.”
ू ₒ ु ୨୧ ू ₒ ु
Connor was forever grateful that she kept that secret from him. If he knew that she applied to UIC and didn’t get in, he would be devastated. However, there were ups and downs to being there in Chicago. Connor rarely saw y/n despite her being just down the street from the UC.
Any time he had an off day, she would have class and anytime she didn’t have class, he would have practice or a game. It was the luck of the draw when they got to be with each other. At points in time, they both thought it would’ve been better if they just stayed in their respective cities.
Overall, those cons were outweighed by the pros. When Connor had a rough day he could literally walk to her apartment to the UC, though he never did. And when y/n had her rough days, she would call Connor and they could be at each other's places within minutes. Though most days when they had a night game, or any game really, Connor ended up staying at her apartment.
That was what happened tonight. Y/n was watching the game from her apartment, she had lucked out with only getting one roommate and she had gone home for the break. It was the Friday after Thanksgiving and y/n didn’t particularly want to go home, spending time with Connor was enough for her.
They had played the Leafs and Kevin scored the overtime goal with an assist from Connor. She had cheered so loudly that she was glad that almost everyone had gone home for the break. She watched post-game live including the interviews and everything that went along with it. When it was done, she turned on the Vancouver game as background noise while she added some food for her and Connor along with some cookies for later.
She truly had no way of knowing when and if Connor was coming back tonight, but she knew him. She sort of blacked out from the end of the game to when Connor came in through the door, causing her to jump when she heard the sound of his bag against the floor.
“Hey, Con.”
“Hi.” He took off his suit jacket and his hat, his cheeks rosy from the of Chicago.
“Thought you guys would be celebrating.” Y/n turned around from where she was stirring at the stove.
“They offered but cuddling with you was much more tempting.” He wrapped his arms around her waist and dropped his head onto her shoulder, “Whatcha making?”
“Soup and I went out and got a bunch of stuffing, because why not.”
“Thank you.” She turned her head and kissed his cheek, “Always.”
Connor went to shower and change as she finished making their food. The two sat and ate dinner while watching the game, talking about whatever came to mind. Connor was going to go shopping with her tomorrow even though Black Friday was today. They were going to buy Christmas decorations so they could decorate her room and part of the main area of the apartment.
When they were done and the game was done, they climbed under the covers of her bed, Connor wrapping his arms around her as she laid her head on his chest.
“I’m proud of you.”
“For what?”
“Your OT goal assist. Con that was amazing.”
Connor shrugged and tightened his hold.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
And that’s how almost every game night is spent for Connor and y/n. Those nights were their favorite.

can you make a fic of teenage teddy and (beekeeping age) carm?? like how their relationship would be and his reaction to her growing up so fast 😭
beekeeping age plzzzz lmao. he would be dilflicious and you all know he would!!! no real tw besides teenage teddy, underage drinking, and mentions to mikey???
"Cousin," Richie's voice was eerily calm on the other line. Carmen's eyes sprung open, sitting up in the bed, the grogginess from sleep was gone. "Don't freak out."
"What's goin' on? What happened?" Carmen didn't listen to Richie's advice, snatching the clock to see the time- three-twenty-two am.
"I said don't freak out, alright?" Richie tried again, the tone he used when he was about to tell Carmen something that would make him go nuclear.
"Don't fuck with me right now. What's goin' on?" Carmen's heart was hammering, shimmying on his sweat pants.
"Carm," You muttered, groggy and rasping through sleep. "What's wrong?"
"Go to sleep, baby. I got it." Carmen muttered, pressing a kiss to your head, hand stroking down your cheeks, the impressions of your pillow pressed into your still warm skin.
"Richie, I'm not fuckin' around anymore, ok? What's goin' on?" Carmen hissed, shutting the door softly, padding down the dark hall.
"Carmen, I want to remind you that we have all been teenagers before. Very young, very stupid." Richie hummed.
Carmen's spine went rigid, icy fear shooting through his nervous system. His eyes flickered up the stairs. Teddy.
"Where are you?" Carmen snatched his keys and coat, patting the pocket to make sure his Spirits were in there- he deserved one, he could already tell.
"I'm at my house, but listen- it's not bad, ok?" Richie tried again, his voice raising a little higher to emphasize over Carmen's ramblings.
"What did she do? Is she ok?" Carmen snapped, slamming the car door shut and tearing out of the garage like a lunatic, pulling onto the unusually calm Chicago streets, tearing towards Richie's house.
Carmen was buzzing- maybe with rage, maybe with fear, maybe both. The fifteen year old had managed to sneak out, going to some party with Eva, who was a sophomore at UIC now. The two had always been close, and now that Eva was in college, they were even closer. How Teddy managed to talk her cousin into bringing her to a college party, no one was sure. The campus police busted it up and found Teddy there, making her call her parent to come get her. Carmen tried to ignore the sinking in his chest that Teddy had called Richie over him.
Teddy looked entirely too old sitting on Richie's couch, in a sweatshirt that clearly covered up whatever she was wearing.
"Go." Carmen gave a sharp jerk of his head, pushing the front door open. "Go to the car."
"Dad, I-"
"-Now, Dorothea." Carmen snapped, tracking her with furious eyes while she stomped out the door.
Richie waited until the car door shut to snicker. "That kid," He pointed towards Carmen's car. "Fuckin' Mikey reincarnated, cousin."
"Don't." Carmen shook his head. "Don't fuckin' say that."
"Cousin, hey, woah. I meant that as a compliment, what's the matter with you?" Richie held his hands up in defense.
"A compliment? Mikey was a fuckin' drug addict and blew his brains out-"
"-Carmen, hold up." Richie cut him off, wide eyes that steadied Carmen's shaking nerves. "You... You fuckin' know I would never... Carm." Richie sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. "Mikey wasn't always a junkie or-or addicted to that shit, ok? I know you fuckin' know that."
Carmen could feel his heart drop, the lump growing thicker and thicker in his throat. It had been years now since Mikey's death, but there were still times it would hit Carmen. Crashing, furious waves that had his chest tightening at the thought.
"Teddy... she's a fuckin' funny kid, alright? That's all I meant. She reminds me of Mikey when we were in high school. Doin' stupid shit and havin' fun. She's a kid, and she's a good kid. Better than Mikey, actually, she's got a better head on her shoulder." Richie said. Carmen didn't move, just let him talk.
"It's not a bad thing to say she's like Mikey. She's a good kid and so was he. He... I mean, he fucked up bad and got all fucked up, but... he was always still good."
"Yeah," Carmen croaked, wiping his nose to hide his emotions. He could see Teddy in the passenger seat, head pressed against the window, scrolling 'sneakily' through her phone (the glare gave her away).
"She didn't snitch on Eva, you know that?" Richie snorted lightly. "Cops asked her who she was with, and she said she was just walkin' by and saw it."
Carmen rolled his eyes. Richie grinned. "That's some Mikey shit right there, don't even say it's not."
"It is." Carmen nodded. "Thanks f'pickin' her up."
"C'mon," Richie shook his head. "Go easy on her, Carm. She's a kid."
Carmen waved him off, hands balled in his jacket when he got in the car. Teddy glanced at him carefully, while Carmen backed out of the drive.
They both didn't say anything, Richie's words ringing around his head. "You hungry?" Carmen muttered.
"What?" Teddy squeaked, a little surprised at his calm demeanor.
"You hungry?" Carmen asked, looking over at her. She wasn't the little toddler that used to clamber around The Bear in plastic heels. No, she was growing up. Older now, looking more like you every single day.
"Yeah." Teddy muttered.
Carmen turned into a diner, a twenty-four-seven one he'd taken you when the two of you were younger. Way younger, before kids, before you ever really even knew each other- when your relationship was new and exciting.
It was dingier now, still smelled like old grease and batter. The coffee was still burnt when it was poured into his cup. Teddy still ordered chocolate chip pancakes which made Carmen's heart swell.
"Hey," Carmen muttered, catching a reflection of his own eyes staring back at him, on a face that looked so much like yours. "I, uh, I want you to know if you ever... If you're ever in a situation like that again, you know you can call me or mom."
Teddy blinked back at him, careful and waiting. "We're not... I mean, we're not gonna be mad if you ever need us, ok? You can always call me if you need to- you should always call me if you need to."
Teddy nodded slowly, twirling her straw around her glass. "So... you're not mad?" She asked hesitantly.
Carmen snorted lightly. "I'm not thrilled, but I'm not mad." He said. "I'm glad you're ok."
Teddy nodded again, lips twisting in thought- just like you did. "So does that mean I'm not in trouble?"
Carmen smirked. "What do you think, kid?" He snorted, shaking his head. Teddy's face fell slightly, face falling in a sullen pout but she nodded anyways.
Carmen made sure Teddy was in her bed when they got home, tucking her in with a kiss to her head, like he always did when she was little. You felt the bed dip, turning towards Carmen's warm chest, his arms finding your waist easily. He smelled faintly like cigarette smoke, stale grease.
"What was wrong with the restaurant?" You muttered, eyes still closed, face burying against his chest.
Carmen would let you think it was the restaurant, at least until the morning. No reason to worry you when Teddy was back home safe. "I got it handled, baby. Go back to bed." His hand slid down your hair, your body melting into his easily.
Carmen lied awake, holding you against his chest, thinking back to Mikey. The good times with Mikey, when he was loud and fun and carefree, always messing with Carmen and just fun. Thinking back to the Mikey he was before. He missed his brother, he did, but Richie was right- Teddy had so many similarities to him, all the good ones. The thought made Carmen comforted, that he still had a part of his brother's spirit still here with him, little reminders of Mikey in his daughter.

What If Steve Were To Leave Hawkins? Part 13
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
This was a really long chapter lol! We’re almost at the end for this fic, probably a few more parts and then I’ll start posting what I have for the next story. I hope you enjoy this and if you have any ideas for the upcoming parts, let me know!
~*~*~*~
Later that day, Steve sent Eddie to pick up carry-out from his favorite Chinese restaurant a few blocks over. He was bursting at the seams to check in on Robin and update her on his happiness. She was working the night shift at Family Video and he knew from his own past experience that it would be a slow day so there wouldn’t be too many interruptions.
With a peck to the lips, he shoved Eddie out the door and grabbed the phone in a single movement.
“Family Video, this is Robin speaking. How can I help you?”
“Hey Robin, it’s Steve,” he said, running a hand through his hair. He had so much to say and so little time before Eddie got back with their food.
“Steve! How are you? How’s Eddie? You haven’t called since I last saw you so I wouldn’t know. What if you were dead in a ditch and Eddie was wanted for murder again, huh? Who would tell me? That’s why you need to call.” She rambled in obvious distress.
Steve’s brow furrowed in confusion, “How would I call you if I was dead in a ditch? I’d be dead. And I haven’t been murdered yet so I think I’m good, I obviously have a good track record.”
“What? Why did you say ‘yet’? Do not jinx yourself, Steve. If you end up murdered because of that statement, I will find a way to bring you back just to kill you myself. You’re not allowed to die, Dingus,” Robin asserted.
“Okay!” Steve breathed through a laugh. “I won’t get murdered. At least not before I ask Eddie to move in with me.”
“What?!” Robin shrieked. “Why didn’t you lead with that, you dingus? You just started talking again and now you want him to move in? I think that might be moving a little fast. Like, no offense, but are you even gay?”
Steve hummed and scratched his chin, “I’m bisexual, everybody knows that. And I’m dating Eddie now, he’s my boyfriend. I really like having him around and I know he doesn’t like it much in Hawkins. Do you think he would say yes?”
“Okay, we’ll come back to that later. I can guarantee that not everybody knows that, Steve. But I know he’ll say yes. He’s liked you for months even though the idiot refused to use his words to talk to you about it. I’m worried that he’ll steal my best friend roommate privileges when you ask him though,” Robin said, more serious and comforting than Steve has heard from her since their last encounter with the Upside Down.
He thought about her words for a moment before speaking. Best friend roommate privileges? “Wait, what? Why would Eddie steal your roommate privileges? Are you planning on moving?”
Robin giggled dorkily into the phone, “My acceptance letter from University of Illinois came yesterday. I’ve been accepted into UIC! And I know a certain dingus lives really close to the campus and might hopefully be on the market for a roommate.”
“Robin, that’s amazing! Congratulations! Yeah, I’d love to get a place with you. We could get a two bedroom and ask Eddie to move in too!” Steve started thinking about the idea in excitement before his insecurities caught up to him once more. “Wait, but what if Eddie doesn’t want to move in with me? I mean, I know I’m great in small doses but I know I irritate people if I’m around too much.”
“What?” Steve heard outside of the phone’s receiver. When he looked up, Eddie was toeing his combat boots off by the door. “Steve, I want to be around you all the time. I think you’re amazing. I was worried to ask if I could stay because I know I’m annoying and I didn’t want you to get sick of me.”
Steve was in shock. How could anyone be annoyed with any of Eddie’s antics? Anytime he thrummed his fingers against the counter, stuck his tongue out of his mouth, or rambled on about DnD, Steve fell more in love with him. “No Eds, I could never get sick of you! I find all of your habits hot as hell. I’d love for you to move in with Robin and I at our new two bedroom apartment. You’ll have to bunk with Robin though.”
Eddie let out a loud guffaw at his words. He had tears in his eyes as he grabbed Steve’s face and ran his thumb along the light stubble on his jaw. “Jesus Christ Stevie, I love you so much.”
And with that, he planted a bruising kiss on Steve’s eager mouth. He would’ve taken it further had Robin not been a cockblock that decided to cough (i.e. hack) into the phone. “Excuse me! Be mindful of the lesbian ears, please. My god, you guys are ridiculous and living with you is going to be unbearable. I can't wait! It’ll be so much better than the dorms!”
Steve laughed in her ear, “We can’t wait to live with you either! We’ll start looking for some vacancies around here in the paper to see if we can get a good deal. When do you want to move out?”
“As soon as possible,” Robin groaned. “Both of my parents are talking about trying to set me up with local guys and I need to leave before I accidentally out myself or something. Find something quickly and I’ll start packing tonight.”
“If you’re really worried about your parents, you can stay in my living room here for a while until we find a new place. Eddie and I have to head back to Hawkins to pick up his van and pack up his room. Sometime next week probably, on my next day off. Will that be enough time for you?” Steve asked. She was his best friend and he had more than enough experience with shitty parents to sympathize with her. If she wanted to get out early, he’d make that happen for her.
“I’ll be ready. School starts next month anyways so I should probably move to the area and find another job. Thanks Steve, and Eddie too I guess. Is he still there?”
Steve looked over to Eddie sitting at the small dining room table. He had noodles dripping down his chin and his wide eyes trained directly on Steve’s ass. He snorted, “no, he’s eating our dinner. I’ll call you tomorrow and we’ll work out the details, okay?”
She agreed and they both quickly said their goodbyes. Steve had Chinese lo mein and more importantly, a very sexy boyfriend to attend to.
~*~*~*~
Roughly thirty minutes after she and Steve had ended their call, Robin noticed Dustin walking up to the door of Family Video. She rarely saw just one kid, usually they traveled in hordes. But today, Dustin was all by his lonesome and was stomping alongside his bike with a dejected expression marring his face. She almost felt worry for the kid but that quickly melted into annoyance when he lugged his bike through the doors with him.
“Hey! Leave that outside, I have to clean these floors. I don’t want you trekking a bunch of dirt in,” She said with a tone full of judgment.
Dustin turned back around and set his old bike to rest against the outside wall before heading straight to the counter and resting his arms on the surface. “Have you heard from Steve or Eddie lately?
She sighed, “yeah, I just got off the phone with him. Why?”
He pinched his nose in a manner he adopted from Steve and mumbled, “I haven’t talked to him since he left. I just want to know if he’s okay.”
Robin was shocked. She had no idea why Steve wouldn’t have called to speak to or even just to check in on Dustin, the kid he viewed as a surrogate little brother. It hasn’t come up in their conversations but she had assumed that everything was back to normal between Steve and the others.
“Yeah, he’s fine. I don’t know why he hasn’t called you but he’s coming back to town next week to help Eddie and I pack so you’ll be able to see him then.” She assured him.
Unfortunately, her words did not have the soothing effect she was going for and caused Dustin’s neck to snap back so quickly in surprise, he may have gotten whiplash. “You’re leaving now? Why? What did I do to you?!” Dustin exclaimed in shock.
Robin looked absolutely perplexed, “what do you mean? You didn’t do anything to me. I just got my acceptance letter from the University of Illinois and Steve said we could get a place together in Chicago.”
Dustin’s eyes welled with tears, “He’s in Chicago?”
“Yeah, him and Eddie. After he comes back to help us pack all of our stuff up, we’re all going to get a place. It’ll be so much better than the dorms. And we can still come back and visit! Steve says it’s only a four hour drive! Eddie says he’s going to come back every so often to visit Wayne. We’ll still be around,” She reassured.
Dustin looked absolutely heartbroken, “What do you mean pack all of your stuff? Wayne said Eddie was just taking some time to himself, now he’s not coming back? Does Wayne even know? I feel like that’s something he should discuss with him!”
“Hey! Dustin, listen, Chicago is not that far away. I’ll be busy with classes and work and Steve will have work too, maybe Eddie, but we’ll make time to visit you and the other kids. You don’t have to worry about us. I mean, I know the Upside Down is like completely gone but just in case, we’re not going super far. We’ll still be here if you need us,” Robin rambled. She saw the tears dripping down his face and tried to reel them back in but nothing was helping. Oh god, she was not the one that should be comforting him. Every word she said caused his lip to quiver more. Oh god. Shit, should she call Nancy or something?
Dustin’s emotions reached their limit and he burst into sobs. First Steve, then Eddie, and now Robin. Did he have to tempt fate and push all of his older friends to want to leave the state? Chicago?! Might as well be a different planet for all the good it did him. He had a bike, how the hell was he supposed to visit them when they were four hours away and across state lines? His shoulders shook as the sobs ripped their way through his chest. His breath left his chest in short pants and no air was entering his lungs.
“Oh no, oh no, Dustin. Oh no, oh god, shit. Um, Dustin, I think you’re having a panic attack and I don’t know what to do with that. Um, take a deep breath and think happy thoughts. You’ll be fine! Oh god, please don’t die. Steve would never forgive me. Wait, I shouldn’t talk about dying, that’ll freak you out now! Oh no, breathe!” Robin’s pleas became more frantic as Dustin’s breath got less and less steady. “I’m going to call Steve. He’ll know what to do, right? Let’s hope!”
She ran from her spot next to Dustin on the floor to the phone situated behind the counter and dialed his new number. “Come on Steve, pick up, pick up…”
“Harrington and Munson residence.”
“Oh thank god. Dingus! Dustin is having a panic attack and I need you to calm him down. He’s freaking out and it’s freaking me out and-”
“Dustin? Okay, give him the phone. Calm down, Robs,” Steve softened his voice and started speaking to Dustin once he heard the labored breathing through the line.
“Hey Dustin, it’s Steve. I need you to focus on your breathing, okay? Take deep breaths and focus on your chest moving up and down. Okay? You’re doing great. You just have to calm down a little bit more,” Steve could hear his breathing becoming more regular and kept up his reassurances. “Dustin, everything is fine. You’re alright. What happened, buddy? What caused that?”
Dustin sniffled, “Everyone is leaving. You left and I couldn’t talk to you. Then Eddie left after we had a fight and I couldn’t apologize. And now Robin is leaving! Is it because of me?”
“Of course not! I left because my parents didn’t want me around anymore and I didn’t think anyone else did either. So, I left and I found a place that I really like. Eddie hasn’t been happy for a long time in Hawkins and that’s not on you either. And Robin is going to school. You can’t blame yourself man. You didn’t do anything to force us to leave, you do owe Eddie an apology though for what you told him. That was a real dick thing to say, Henderson. But, we’re not leaving because of you. We're just growing up and leaving home,” Steve explained calmly in a tone he only reserved for the kids.
“And you’re coming next week to help them pack, right? Can I see you then? I’ve really missed having my big brother around.” Dustin whispered vulnerably into the phone.
“Of course! I’ll take you out to ice cream or something while Eddie whispers sweet nothings to his guitar or whatever else musicians do. Just stay calm and I’ll see you then, okay?” Steve promised him.
“Okay! I’ll see you then!” With that, Dustin handed the phone back to Robin and practically skipped out to his bike. He felt like a weight was lifted off of his shoulders. Steve was coming to see him next week and he didn’t hold any resentment for him. Phew, what a relief. He was still leaving town but at least now Dustin knew that they would stay in touch. That was all he could ask for and all he really needed.

Univ. of Illinois conspired against Palestinians, federal complaint alleges | The Electronic Intifada
Six Palestinian students and one Jewish student at the University of Illinois Chicago have filed a Federal Complaint against the school for alleged discrimination against Palestinian students.
According to the complaint, which was filed by members of Students For Justice in Palestine, allege that during a video conference in January about an upcoming University-arranged trip to Israel, students who intended to bring up concerns they had with the racial profiling policies in Israeli Airports and how that might affect Palestinian and other Arab students who may want to attend the trip.
The Palestinian students allege they were denied entry to the video conference held on Zoom until they changed their Profile names to reflect Western sounding names, and were then admitted to conference call.
After finally being admitted, the students allege University staff shut them down the moment they raised their objections and asked their questions. They claim University staff dismissed their concerns, acted disrespectfully towards the Palestinian students, and muted them when they brought up Apartheid policies in Israel.
The Jewish student who has joined the Federal complaint against UIC Staff was permitted entry to the video call immediately, and claims she witnessed the racial profiling and harassment of her friends and decided to join in the complaint.
In the Zoom call arranged by UIC Staff, students with Western sounding names were permitted entry, while the Palestinian students were relegated to a waiting room indefinitely. Finally, after some time, the students decided to try changing their Profile names to reflect Western sounding names like "Hayley" and "Rebecca Goldstein", and they were almost immediately allowed entry into the video call.
After finally being granted admission into the call, Jenin Alharithi, who had changed her profile name to Hayley, told Electronic Intifada that she immediately raided her concerns with UIC Staff:
The complaint alleges UIC Staff subsequently dismissed their concerns and told the students their questions were inappropriate before threatening to eject the students from the call and portraying their questions as somehow aggressive and violent.
Another Palestinian student by the name of Soha Khatib did not change her name and was denied entry to the video conference. After the call ended, she emailed UIC Staff and arranged for a meeting with Kyle Rausch, Executive Director of UIC's study abroad program that was arranging the Israel trip.
During her meeting with Rausch, held a few days after the information session video call, Khatib asked Rausch, without mentioning her Palestinian heritage and instead focusing on her African heritage, what the school was going to do to protect her rights should she attend the trip, considering the racial profiling policies of the Israeli regime against Ethiopians and others of African descent trying to enter Israel.
According to Khatib, Rausch sensed a political agenda and suspected her Palestinian heritage, asking her why she wanted to attend the trip if she felt would be poorly treated by Israeli authorities and began asking if she'd ever been there before.
Further, the complaint states that the Administrator then made a comment about his LGBT sexual orientation and how he wouldn't want to go to Saudi Arabia because of how he might be treated there.
Further, at a later event in February, the complaint alleges the students attended a UIC Study Abroad Expo, a campus event about upcoming University trips abroad.
During that interaction, SJP Students asked administrators about their exclusion and treatment during the video conference in January. The students claim that during the event, Salaam Khater, another SJP student who attended the conference call, asked Rausch about their treatment on that day. Khater says the administrator dismissed her assertion that students had been discriminated against and mistreated by staff, and that the students "were lying".
The Federal complaint goes on to describe a further escalation when the SJP students began publicizing their interactions with UIC Staff online and with flyers inside a campus building housing the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition on February 13th. The flyers highlighted the Administration's whitewashing of Israeli Apartheid and the instances of racial profiling by staff.
When the students ran into two Professors as they were putting up the flyers, the staff members took down the flyers and threatened them with police action.
UIC Administrators even went a step further, the study abroad program's Executive Director emailed Khater shortly after the incident, demanding she take down Instagram posts depicting their complaints and mistreatment at the hands of Administrators, or face legal action from the school.
The Office of the Dean of Students escalated further: announcing in March the SJP students would face disciplinary charges from the school for flyering without appropriate permission, which SJP students claim is being selectively enforced against minority students with causes unpopular with staff.
But the students didn't stop there, filing complaints with the school's Office For Access and Equity (probably the most State Dept driven name for a University office in history) where they demanded the agency investigate the Palestinian students' mistreatment by the study abroad program's staff.
In July, the school gave the students their response: they would close their review into the mistreatment of Palestinian students without conducting any kind of internal investigation.

kitty originally planned to go to college at the University of Illinois (Chicago's campus), but after her mother's death and after being saved by a certain firefighter, she decided to become a firefighter.
she was going to study forensic science at UIC, because she briefly took an online forensics program in high school and adored it. because of her (albeit little) knowledge about forensics, kelly tended to ask her for some help around arsons.
while she knew her mother wouldn't have been too happy with it, kitty was happy for jay to become a cop (then detective) because then her little knowledge of forensics wouldn't go to waste when jay would ask for her input on something to do with her job.
later on into her career, mouse encouraged kitty to try for the course at UIC again, but she felt that she was set in her career and that even if she could've been better in a forensics career, firefighting was her purpose and she wouldn't give up her career even for her old dreams.

Life isn't a paragraph..
-A picture I took of my dorm room before I left for winter vacation.
These past two weeks, I doubted my decision to transfer schools. You see, despite finding my past academic studies poignant and restless, I did find a glimmer of hope in it. I met many people who lent me a hand, teachers who supported me in my endeavours and truly wanted to nurture me to my fullest, and mostly fellow accomplices who also wanted to study for their success. Amid these credentialism hours of this dystopia, I found momentary solace in people around me. I didn't process the fact that I would end up snipping these connections away. The associations are twaddle.
However, fellow life adventurers weren't the only ones I was acquainted with. Through my rejuvenated love for English literature, I realised my acquaintance with English. No wonder, I thought when I perceived this fact. It was imminent that I was creative with Vocabulary, weaving words together to create savoury delights. There were also times when I preferred English books over those translated into my national tongue. My undying love for Roald Dahl's stories.
Perhaps, I was too dead set on my path to success. I believed that going to Art school first would land me a satisfactory job in the Animation Industry. While not entirely false, I observed that my priority was not on Art University(not right away, at least). For you see, I wanted to have a job in animation while also pursuing my English hobbies, which would be nigh impossible on the original plan. My conclusive thoughts lent me a path to deviate from my art studies.
I hope to get into Yonsei's UIC(Underwood International College) or Utah University in Incheon's global campus. However, I must remain in my foreign language school to get admitted to those schools with a higher probability. Hopefully, by getting in there, I could work on perfecting my English knacks while I analyse how stories work. Through those four years, I plan to reflect on who I could be, what I want to do, and where to go. After that, I desire to continue my professional art training and get into a prestigious art school to succeed in the art world.
All these hypotheticals aren't without crucial cornerstones. I want you to know that I'll have you rest assured. I compromised with my mother to go through multiple bachelor programs if it's a must for my life. Regarding my art skills, I also intend to continue my art cram school studies and refine my art skills. I'll have to study for dear life and raise my rank in school to at least a two mark. Not to mention, I've been working hard to cultivate my literary passion too. The first book I reviewed and analysed was "The Girl on The Train". A poem quoted on page 7 was what stuck with me the most, for it best described my current situation; Life is no paragraph.
Cotton balls and friends, may this entry help you realise that deviation isn't the termination of your dreams. Relatively, the rejuvenation of your identity is what the other road will be. Take your time to reflect on yourself, and revisit passions you stowed away.
And always, I bid adieu. May my next visit be a welcoming one!

Why does LGBTQ+ activism on campus necessarily need to take an intersectional lens according to Brier?
Intersectionality is crucial to LGBTQ+ activism because it involves the multiple identities that several systems treat as nonexistent. Also, this group is inherently diverse and the school must meet the needs of every student on campus by taking into account every identity.
2. What similarities do you see between UIC's diverse students and CU Denver?
We do see similarity in that we have some specific intersectional activities on campus like a recent event specifically for trans people of color. However this is most likely far less that you would find somewhere like UIC which has an even more diverse population. When it comes to undocumented people we are not very familiar as a group with what that situation is like here at CU Denver but it seems there's less movement specifically for undocumented immigrants here than there is at UIC. Colorado is one of the 7 states that provide undocumented students access to education.
3. What are some of the coalition initiatives queer students, faculty, and staff have been working on it at UIC?
UIC's, RICE ACT seeks to get non-federal financial aid for DACA students. The RICE ACT was created by a group of undocumented students at UIC. UIC students demanded and won the opening of gender neutral bathrooms on campus.
4. A more integrated campus and structure. A better communication on what is afforded in terms of clubs and activates.

Day 2
11:25 AM - Dobby’s first squirrel chase.
Today mama left :( papa and I dropped her off early in the morning at the airport and said our goodbyes for now. Apparently mama is going on a trip where they can't bring good puppies like myself. That's some kind of bullshit. And I know my poop well.
After getting caught in the rain in the Robinson Woods-South nature preserve, we headed back home for snuggles on the couch. Papa, me, and my favorite yellow pillow :) I wonder when mama will come back. I got a chance to walk through UIC again, it has been almost a year since I was here last and I'm about to make this campus my bitch. Remember me? Woof. Dobby out.

1350 S. Morgan St.: The sidewalk by the West Outdoor Field Complex on the way to UIC campus. At night there is little to no light when walking on that sidewalk.
You can report any hazardous sidewalks in the greater Chicagoland area by calling 311 or visiting 311.chicago.gov for more details. If you have any pictures of dangerous sidewalks, you can tweet them to @redlineproject on Twitter.
