Ciarán's hand tightened on the door to William's office in reaction to the man's words, knuckles going white against the wood, but he gave no other sign he'd even heard them. He'd been glaring out the doorway at the retreating back of some empty-headed employee who clearly had absolutely no respect for their superiors - they'd been very persistent about getting into Mr. Afton's office to speak with him about some 'urgent' matter when the two of them had clearly been very busy with their 'meeting' before they'd come and knocked on the door. No amount of snappy, clipped words or slowly raised volume had seemed to be enough to deter them.

He huffed once they were a satisfactory distance away, resisting the urge to slam the door to prove some kind of point and instead closing it very slowly and carefully because this was Will's office and he respected Will's stuff. Turning to face the man sitting behind the desk and clasping his hands behind his back, he heaved a sigh, tension draining from his frame the moment he laid eyes on the other man. His face returned to a calm, pleasant - daresay, almost fond - smile, as was his typical resting expression when in William's presence.

"I will have to admit I'm not quite sure what you mean by that, Bill," he answered, tilting his head down to look up at William through his lashes with a grin that showed he knew exactly what William's opinion of that nickname was. "I was just informing your lovely employee that you weren't available for a meeting at the moment. Because you're not. You're spending time with me, ain't that right?" There was a certain lilt to his tone - this was teasing. Making a question out of what he knew to be a statement of fact. They did this often, played this little game; he knew that, while much he did may get on Will's nerves, none of it ever truly upset him. William liked him too much for that.

As he spoke, he stepped away from the door, making his way across the office in smooth, even strides until he could round the corner of William's desk and lean slightly back against the wood, crossing one ankle over the other. One of his hands fell back to support his weight, while the other came up to card through the other man's dark hair, settling itself at the back of his head while he had to crane his neck backwards to make eye contact.

"After all, they don't need your attention. They aren't ev'n worth your time. I am, though. You know that. Why else would I be here?"

His hand slid forward, thumb caressing along William's cheek before he brought it to a rest at the nape of his neck. "Admit it. You'd much rather have me in here than any of those bastards you've got out there."
