DBTAU thoughts! (Poorly done drawings)

VnV having fun with their new supply of talent. They must feel so happy to easily have a replacement eversince Floyd's escape. And clearly, Lou isn't having a good time.

I also drew some possible interactions in the crossover, first is Poppy with Mandy and Moxy. I just KNOW poppy and moxy would instantly click😭 I have no idea how the Trolls would meet the prettydolls and uglydolls. Maybe the Trolls went through the weird looking portal in the dark abiss of mount rageous or some of the uglydolls went through the portal and met them.

Poppy would be having a great time talking with Moxy and Mandy. Meanwhile, Floyd would see the other dolls that seemed to show that they were wondering where Lou went.

And maybe here they plan a rescue mission? I'm not sure.

Another thought I had was that since Floyd was already rescued and reunited with brozone way earlier, I drew this.

Okay, so I saw a Pinterest post about UglyDolls (woah) that was something along the lines of: "Lou, as canon, isn't romantically interested in anyone. Yet, in the fanon, he is shipped with every character."

Which is true, but has got me thinking now if Lou could *earnestly* be shipped with every character and it still work?

And I mean work in the sense that, whilst staying in character, it doesn't make the reader wanna vomit or cringe.

So, I'm gonna put up a poll, just cause I'm curious. And, for the record, I'm excluding the main ships which are as follows: Moxy X Lou, Mandy X Lou, Ox X Lou, and Nolan X Lou.

(these are solely based on the amount of fanart/fiction I've seen for the ship)

And now, the poll. The way this is going to work is I want you to pick whichever "side character" or really just the one that he hasn't really been shipped with yet that you would NOT. In a million years. Ever ship him with. Pick the worst one. And if you'd like, tell me why-

My PrettyDolls Redesign

Took awhile, but I finally got these designs done. Similar to my Uglydolls redesign, I didn't change too much from their original designs. All I did was added some accessories, and change up their clothes. Most of the pretty girls have golden earrings, and different size skirts besides Lydia.

Kitty is the leader of the Spy Girls. She makes sure that the other spies, and Mandy look top tier as they are the lead examples of perfections in the Institute. Because of this, Kitty is very strict on how the girls should dress, look, and act as she doesn't want to disappoint Lou. For my redesign, I gave her long white stockings, shortened her skirt a bit, and a cat hairpin. Kitty wants to look professional and up to Lou's standards. She doesn't wear to any thing that's too distracting, and keeps things simple. The cat hairpin is something she added to give her outfit some flare, and to show her love for cats.

Tuesday is a big fan of Lou and wants his attention 24/7. Kitty makes sure to keep her in lane, but Tuesday can't help it. Besides her obsessions of Lou, Tuesday's job is to keep track what's trending and whatever gossips that goes around in Perfection. It's how the Spy Girls stay ahead of the game, and have a bunch of dirt on everyone. For her redesign, I gave a big red bow, and a cowlick. The red bow helps her gain attentions, and the cowlick is to show that she can be a bit of an airhead despite her perfections.

Lydia is the defense of the group. She makes sure the dolls keep their distances from Lou, and defends the Spy Girls name. Lydia is not some doll you should mess with, and willing to stuffed anyone that gets in her way. The reason why I gave her long, flowing pants, because I kept imagining her with them, and felt like they suit her better than a skirt. I also gave her a bunny pin since she does have a bit of the soft side, and she mentioned that she loves bunnies.

Mandy's redesign is very similar to how she's looks in the movie. The only differences is that she's allow to wear her glasses around Lou, and the Spy Girls since in my rewrite. Wearing glasses doesn't make you ugly. That doesn't mean she's completely perfect as she hides something messier underneath. Besides that, Mandy pretty much act that same like she did in the movie, and have a decent, but neutral relationship with the Spy Girls. Though, she is pretty close to Kitty as Kitty tends to trust her with certain tasks, and helps keep the group organize.

For Meghan and Michael, they are background characters that appear once in a while, but I wanted to redesign them as well. Meghan skirt isn't as twirly like some of the other pretty girls' skirts. She takes her role as a lawyer serious, and doesn't mess around. For Micheal, I shorten up his jacket vest and have his shirt stick out a bit. He likes to keep his himself clean, and really dislikes the idea of going into the washer (Though, that is pretty much how all of the institute feels.) Both Meghan and Michael try to live up to Lou's standards, but aren't on the same level like Mandy and the Spy Girls.

Now for the doll himself, Lou!! The only changes I made for his design is that I added a "L" initial on his jacket. Other than that, Lou is leader of the Institute of Perfection, and mentor to all pretty dolls. He seeks out the best of the best, and is very harsh and judgmental when doing so. He only wants what's best for the pretty dolls as he knows that they can do better. Though, he doesn't have much hope for Imperfects dolls as he sees them as mistakes and wouldn't hesitate to recycle them if they refuse to do labor work. All the pretty dolls look up to him, and see him as this flawless doll can do no wrong. Despite wanting to forget, he constantly thinks about that one friendship he had with a certain ugly doll as that was the only time he felt something more genuine than admiration.

Note: I notice that I made Mandy, Kitty, Tuesday, Meghan, and Micheal's skirt and pants a lot lighter than I intended to be, so that's going to get fix in the future.

Ultimatum [Uglydolls Fanfic art cover]

This is a small story I've been working on about Lou, Nolan and Micheal. Lou tries to separate two dolls named Nolan and Micheal, they're both best friends. So he gives Nolan the ultimatum. It's between going to the big world by choosing Lou or Micheal who would "keep" him from achieving his goal of going to the big world. But in all honestly, Lou does it because he is jealous.

If you are asking what the word Ultimatum means, it means we'll here's an example. That is when someone says things like “ it's either your drinking /friends/ family/ hobby/ job or me".

UGLYDOLLS PART ONE

My goodness, this is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. To put the significance of Uglydolls into perspective, I genuinely cannot think of a time in my life where uglydolls did not hold some significance. When I was nothing more than a wee little larval form, I would spend hours on Uglydolls.com looking at these little bastards. They hold a special place in my multiple cardiovascular organs, and they always will. Brainworm Deepest Lore aside, the designs of these plushies are delightfully simplistic, easy to draw, and full of personality. 

This time I will be discussing the most notable crew of uglies, however next time I will be going into the ones that personally meant a lot to me as a little zygote.

WAGE

Wage is considered to be the first uglydoll. His personality is essentially that of a lazy freeloading employee who doesn’t really want to do his job. This is valid, and I appreciate it. As far as I know, he’s the only uglydoll who consistently wears clothes, and this gives him a boatload of personality and uniqueness. Something I appreciate about his design and most other uglydolls is the intentional ambiguity of the species. Is Wage a dog? Bear? Tasmanian Devil? Who knows, who cares. As far as I know, wage is wage, and that is that. Side note: the smaller plushie of wage is given the special name of “Minimum Wage.” Cute!

WEDGEHEAD

Wedgehead is one of the most unique and fun designs, and one of the most recognizable. I still have the wedgehead plush we got as a tiny little group of pulsating maggotoids, and he’s seen some hellfire. Wedgehead’s personality is a bit harder to decipher, but he seems to be the straight man in most uglydoll antics. His name is also pretty interesting, but its uh...its pretty self explanatory.  Theres not much to say about him other than his distinct and lovable design. All friend groups need a wedgehead, and thats a fact.

OX

I think OX is the only uglydolls that I think is just a straight up asshole. His whole personality is essentially being a greedy trickster who will probably try and rope you into a pyramid scheme. I love him. Most depictions show him using his ears instead of his hands, and later models elongate these ears to facilitate that. Ox is shown most commonly with his best buddy (they’re not actually  Wedgehead, who both try various get rich quick schemes and inevitably fail. Also, his eyes are his name, which is pretty goofy if you ask me. 

ICE BAT

There are two different models for ice-bat. The original toed version and the “changed to and then reverted from” footed version. Personally I had the one that only had feet and no toes (two actually), and when the went back to the toed version, I was very confused. History aside, Ice Bat is one of the only valid bastards on the planet. If I was stranded on an island and could only bring one person with me, it would be my homie Ice Bat. Ice Bat is kind of like the king midas of uglydolls, cursed with a touch that freezes anything. Ice Bat doesn’t seem to care too much, and even though a single touch can freeze you to death, they still manage to be one of the most charismatic and lovable of all uglykind.

BABO

If there is a face of UglyDolls, it’s babo. Most if not all uglydoll content is featured around him, and he has the most love from the creators. Babo is known for his love of cookies and dimwhittedness, but he seems to ooze more personality than that. Babo seems to encompass all that uglydolls seem to offer: A laid back, hedonistic lifestyle that doesnt mess around with bad vibes. Babo is uglydolls. Putting that aside, I would like to wonder what babo actually is. Is that hair on the top of his head? Ears? Pincers? Is babo some strange misshapen earwig? Probably not, however I still like the idea.

CINKO

Cinko was one of my favorite uglydolls growing up, but I’m starting to question that decision. His main gimick is that he’s afraid of water (haha cause hes an octopus) and he is a nervous, shy kid. For some reason that appealed to me as a little worm, but now? This thing would be played by Micheal Cera in a live action movie. He’s the nervous shyboy who probably is an incel but he ends up getting some [REDACTED] by the end of the movie. Love you Cinko, but I can’t not call you out on this. I want to get into the name before I move on. There are several things going on here. He has 5 suckers on his arms, so Cinko makes sense, as it’s basically just a misspelled Cinco (5 in spanish for those who don’t know.) That’s cool and all, but also, it’s pronounced “Sink-O.” Do what you will with that.

TARGET

Target is the oldest of the uglydolls (canonically, not by release date) and he is one of the only uglydolls with hair. He’s considered the grandpa of all uglydolls, and simply wishes for someone to come his hair and give him food. Before researching, I was under the impression that everyone was just deeply terrified of him, and he didn’t really give a [REDACTED]. I assume his name is in reference to his large red eyeball, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the most important feature. This guy is like a hairy dumbo octopus, and I appreciate that. If there’s an uglydoll fandom, I will certainly join it and make a bunch of boomer memes of him, cause I love this gnarly looking cephalopod. 

BOP n BEEP

BOP (Green) and BEEP (Blue) are one uglydoll, being a face on each side. They’re not the only uglydoll with this gimmick (TurnyBurny also has this, but we’ll discuss them later) but they are the first. Bop n Beep are occasionally wrapped into Ox and Wedgehead’s schemes, with Bop usually siding with Ox and Beep with Wedgehead. They’re a goofy dynamic that contradicts each other, but these two homies know how to watch each other’s backs.

UGLYDOG

Personalitywise, it’s just a dog. Not much to say, woof woof bark bark yiff yiff etc etc. But design wise? Ok it’s also just kind of a dog. That being said, I love uglydog! It’s cute and simple, and perfectly captures what makes uglydolls so appealing. Look at that tail. It’s coming out of the side of this animal, Uglydog is barely 3 dimensional. Can you draw uglydog? Trick question bitch, yes you can. They’re visually appealing, and can be drawn by even the least skilled of artists. This is why young life form me was so obsessed with these guys. They’re accessible. Could I draw mario? Sonic? Spongebob? Maybe when I was older, but as a 6 year old larva, no, I could not. But could I draw a weird shapey thing with an eye and pointy teeth? Yes, yes I could. Even the least coordinated cilia could draw something that resembles an uglydoll. That is why I love them. Theres no age range for these things, they’re truly a smelly, selfish, hedonistic pal for everyone to love and cherish forever.

Prompt 14: "Am I supposed to be scared of you?"

It was generally peaceful. Sickeningly sweet, in Lou's opinion. They took love and compassion to an extreme except when it came to him. Hypocrites.

But...perhaps he wasn't the only doll that didn't meet the graces of the others.

He slowed in his mopping as a commotion met his ears. Brows furrowed for a moment, and looked over to see Micheal messing with that factory screw-up.

"I wasn't even talking to you," the brunette muttered. He didn't sound very confident, especially when Micheal towered over him.

"Oh yeah? Who were you talking to then? You don't exactly have any friends." Every word dripped with self-righteousness. A trait Lou used to approve in the doll before Micheal turned against him. "Tell me something, do you see half the world in purple and half in green? Just curious."

The brunette's face flushed with anger he obviously wasn't good at vocalizing. "Please just let me get by. I don't have time for this--"

"Time for what?" Micheal pushed a hand against the boy's chest. "No time for an earnest question?" He resumed a more regal stance and gave a snarky look, "Maybe change your appearance to something less...," his gaze raked up and down the boy, "profound, and I'll stop calling you out for it."

"Get with the program, Micheal. No one cares about looks anymore."

"It's easy not to care when you already look perfect. You, on the other hand, should care. Do you really want to walk around looking like this?"

Lou popped in suddenly, stepping between the two. "Micheal, was it? Nice to meet you--not really. Do you mind moving? I have to clean up the mess right here."

Micheal wrinkled his nose at the blonde, "What mess?"

He gestured to Micheal as a whole, "This one."

The engineer's eyes widened, "You are calling me a mess? The one whose hair currently looks like a wet mop right now? And let's not even talk about the clothes."

"At least my hair is actually clean." Lou gave an innocent look to the doll, tilting his head, "When was the last time you washed yours?"

"I don't have time for this," Micheal growled.

Lou gave a small smile, looking to the brunette behind him, "Time for what? An earnest question?"

The boy behind him snorted, fighting back a smile behind his hand. Which only served to make Micheal livid. "Get out of my way before I tell Ox. Or worse, I deal with you myself. I'm sure the mayor will thank me afterward."

"Am I supposed to be scared of you?" Lou looked uninterested, crossing his arms.

"Maybe not. But you are afraid of that washer." Lou's face dropped a bit. "Yeah, don't think I didn't see Mr. Ugly running away the second that door opened."

Lou narrowed his eyes...and walked away back to his mop and bucket. Micheal snorted and turned back to the brunette, "If you decide to keep this hideous look, maybe Lou will let you join his ugly club."

The boy had half a mind to run after Lou to ensure he was okay. For what reason, he didn't know. A common courtesy. "That was crossing a line."

Micheal rolled his eyes, "Like you care. Here you are worrying about that backstabber when you should be focused on fixing that hideous--"

The brunette gasped, hand flying to his mouth when water was suddenly dunked all over Micheal's head. The engineer gasped from the cold water and whirled behind him to see a smug Lou. "Much better," the blonde grinned, "now your hair is clean."

"You are so in trouble! I'm telling Ox, and you won't hear the end of it!"

Lou leaned up close, eyes narrowed dangerously, "Do it then."

Micheal huffed and stormed off. Incoherent insults could be heard, but it didn't matter anyhow. The brunette looked at Lou wide-eyed, "You know you're gonna get in trouble for that."

The blonde wrinkled his nose, "There's hardly anything more Ox can do to punish me. I'm not worried about it."

It was silent for a second. "Thank you, by the way."

"For what?"

"Helping me out," the brunette nodded to where Micheal stalked off. "I didn't know how I was gonna get out of that one."

"Well, try to not get back into it. I don't always have a bucket with me."

He couldn't help himself. The comment made the brunette snort, "I'll remember to start bringing my own then."

Lou tilted his head at the boy, "What's your name? Nolan?"

"You remember?

"Please, it's my job--was my job to remember," Lou looked down awkwardly for a second, "but, yeah, you're the one I sang about."

At that, Nolan downcast his gaze, "Yeah...that's me."

Lou pursed his lips, looking between Nolan and somewhere in the distance. "Ignore him," he spoke quickly. "Next time Micheal says anything to you, just ignore him. He's book smart, but...he doesn't know anything about looking good."

"Right," Nolan didn't sound convinced.

"For what it's worth--I mean...at this point, my opinion doesn't matter to anyone anymore, does it?" Lou gave a mirthless laugh. "But...you look fine--perfect." He tested the word on his tongue. He couldn't recall the last time he'd used that adjective on anyone other than himself. "You look perfect. So don't pay attention to anything Micheal says."

Nolan looked up with wide eyes, "Really? I look perfect?"

"I am the expert, aren't I?" A bit of that confident air Nolan remembered shined through.

Nolan smiled softly, "Thanks."

What if Lou was accepting of all dolls, all pretty and uglydolls.

Okay, so I've got caught a lot of asks to get through 😅but I love it! Some of these (like this one) will be explained rather than integrated into a story. If you want a story for this, let me know, but the request may have to be more specific.

Lou is my favorite character BECAUSE he does not accept the UglyDolls. While I love the optimism and being happy, Moxy crosses that fine line between hopeful and naive. Lou has been through so much that he is more grounded in the reality that not every doll IS able to pass the Gauntlet. Love and compassion are the main goals to pass, but even then, not every doll can do that.

We even see in the movie that it's not just Lou that sees the Uglies as repulsive and undesirable. When Lou is performing his song "The Ugly Truth" there is a clip of the Uglies moving closer to the stage and a red-headed female doll leans back in disgust. This is before Lou even calls them out on their appearance. Kitty and Lydia do the same thing when the Uglies first arrive.

This begs the question, if Lou had accepted them truly (mind you, he put on a front and the Uglies were still despised by the other dolls) would anything have been different for them? Ox had been wholeheartedly accepted by Lou when first coming to the Institute, and yet the other dolls shunned Ox for being different. It seems as if Lou has no real impact on what the other dolls think.

In actuality, Lou may be conforming to the majority rather than the majority conforming to him.

When Micheal (the blue-haired doll) and Meghan (the purple-haired doll) are first made, even they naturally scream in fear when the Uglies are revealed. This is without any knowledge of their purpose, the criteria to get to the Big World, any of that. By nature, the dolls are driven to look, what they consider, normal.

Aside from Mandy, Lou is the ONLY doll who is shown to give natural affection to the Uglies -- this is referring to when he first met Ox. So, it seems to me that Lou had first put on the act of despising the Uglies in order to fit in with the other dolls. His opinion or act toward them would not have changed what the majority would think.

But that's just my take on it. There's plenty of evidence to argue against my thesis as well.
