Temuera Morrison bringing Māori culture into his role as he plays Boba Fett: perfect!
Boba Fett not accepting his Mandalorian heritage despite his upbringing, as he feels disconnected from it after Jango died: sad, but understandable!
Temuera Morrison being the only person to portray a Mandalorian with the rightful Māori influence BUT said Mandalorian not being accepted in the canon culture: BAD

Just a Friend to You
Chapter 5: Sports
“Y/N! COME GIVE MAMA A SMOOCHIE SMOOCH!”
Y/N pushes open the door with a small duffle bag hanging from her right shoulder to see Kaori and Yukie running at her. Yukie jumps on her, hugging her tightly while Kaori hugs her side, squeezing her stomach.
“You guys act like you didn’t see me yesterday.” Y/N says, rolling her eyes but smiling.
“IT FEELS LIKE WE HAVEN’T!”
“PLEASE BECOME MANAGER AGAIN WE ARE SUFFERING!”
At this point, hearing their two managers crying, the boys stop what they were doing, turning to see the “reunion” between the three girls, seeing Y/N smushed between Yukie and Kaori with a bored look on her face.
Tumblr media
“Ya know it never gets boring to see them like that.”
Akaashi’s eyes lift to turn towards Bokuto, seeing him still looking ahead at the three. Akaashi turns his head back, once again looking at the girls. He sees Y/N trying to shove them off, laughing in his head but only a small smile appears on the outside.
“Apparently she was practicing really late last night, know anything about that?” Akaashi turns once again to see Bokuto look at him. Looking back at Y/N he remembers last night and all that occurred, slightly praying that his cheeks and ears don’t give any sort of reaction.
“No, why do you ask?”
“Just that she would’ve told you,” Bokuto shrugged, “while I’m your best friend, she’s your BESTEST friend!” Bokuto smiles at Akaashi, Akaashi giving him back a small smile, both boys turning back to see the girls finally off of Y/N’s body.
“Huh, yeah.”
Tumblr media
Y/N places her bag by the wall, then walked towards to the bench so see the coach smiling at her.
“Hello again, L/N.”
“Hey coach, so, how are you guys surviving without me?”
“Ugh,” he puts a hand over his heart, acting in pain, “we’re suffering.” Y/N lets out a laugh, a chuckle following from the coaches mouth.
“In all seriousness, they’re doing very well. I’m surprised Bokuto is taking on the captain role so well, along with Akaashi as his right hand man. But, Akaashi is the one to get Bokuto out of his emo mode the quickest.” Coach says, Y/N nodding along, turning to see the boys practicing again doing spiking drills. Bokuto spiked a ball, it hitting the court then flying towards Yukie.
“eY WATCH IT”
“IM SOOOOOORRY YUKIEE”
Kaori started giggling, grabbing the ball and tossing it to Y/N.
“Y/N”
“WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO I THOUGHT I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RESTING” Y/N whined, stomping her feet like a 3 year old.
“OH BOO HOO SERVING DRILLS, NOW” Kaori said, coming to drag her by the wrist.
“I DONT WANNA” Y/N says, pulling back while everyone watches this unfold. She can hear Konoha basically wheezing at this point, and Yukie smacking something or someone whilst laughing.
Kaori let’s go of Y/N, letting her fall to the ground. She crosses arms and legs, still pouting, when she feels two hands lift her by the armpit.
“Come come.” Y/N struggles, Akaashi basically carrying her like a rag doll, Haruki recording the whole thing while Yamato laid on the gym floor.
Akaashi makes his way to the other side of the court, Y/N still wiggling. He plops her down, her arms crossed and her eyes staring up at him. He looks down at her with a smile, grabbing a stray ball and handing it to her. Y/N let’s out a sigh, her lips finally breaking into a small smile when Akaashi pats her head.
“JESUS AKAASHI WE GET IT WE’RE SINGLE GOD DAMN MOTHER FUCKIN SECOND YEAR HAVING A GIRLFRIEND BEFORE I DO!” The pair turns to see Yamato still on the floor.
Y/N and Akaashi separate, a blush basically tap dancing on their faces with how red it was. Akaashi rubs the back of his neck and goes back to his side of the court. Y/N sighs, holding the ball in her left hand.
“You get 5 serves. If you miss any, you’re doing a flying lap. Am I clear?”
“Yes ma’am.”
The boys missed two of the five serves, Bokuto even screaming at one of them, but the boys just grumbled, sucking it up and doing their punishment. Kaori walked up to Y/N with Yukie, placing her arm around the other two girls.
“It’s insane how they still respect you, despite being younger than most of them.”
“You just gotta work them into shape, but they respect you two as well.” Y/N says, leaning her head onto Kaori’s hand.
“I honestly think Y/N puts the fear of god into them since they know she hits as hard as some of them can.” Yukie says, letting out a chuckle.
“Speaking of, what was that with Akaashi?” Y/N turns to the girls quickly, both of them now standing next to eachother smirking, their eyebrows constantly raising.
“THAT was him treating me like a 5 year old.”
“THAT was him basically confessing to you.”
“I-“
Y/N starts to cough, becoming red once again, Yukie and Kaori busting out laughing at the girl. Yukie sighs, grabbing the other girls hand and beginning to walk towards the bench with them.
“You just gotta do it when the time is right, although please sooner than later this is hurting my heart.” Y/N shakes her head, slightly giggling. She stands, signaling that she’s going to go refill her bottle.
As she waits for the bottle to fill, her phone dings.

Practice ended after another hour, the boys now cleaning up. Y/N sat with some chips as coach approached her once again.
“So, how’s your team coming along?”
“Well, their captain is a bitch, but they are confident that they’ll win tomorrow.” Y/N says, smiling up at him at he laughs.
“Maybe I’ll let off practice, let them see how they can actually play if they don’t fool around.” He says, crossing his arms and shaking his head.
“Oh? I guess I never told you about us using the volleyball net as a race line-“
“yOu DID WHAT-“
After a brief scolding from coach, the boys came over, seeing that their old manager definitely still had a knack for giving their coach a headache.
“Practice tomorrow will be cancelled, however, I do suggest you going to see the girls game. Not only should we support them as much as they support us, but also I do want to see this one as a captain. I’m sure the now 2nd and 3rd years do as well.” The boys nodded along with what coach was saying, then turned to face you.
“Y/N!! Are you a super cool captain like me?”
“No.”
“BAHSHFBF” Bokuto’s hair fell while Kaori laughed, Yukie also laughing but trying to cheer up Bokuto by patting his back.
“I’m not a great captain, I do still fall on my ass, but we both are good captains, Bokuto,” Y/N says, walking up to him and holding out her hand, “No matter how many times we fail.”
Bokuto grabbed her hand, pulling her in for a hug, tears starting to form.
“AWWE Y/NNNNN”
“Since when the fuck were you so inspiring?”
“Yeah, usually you’d yell at us or tell yourself to “pick your ass off up the ground and cry about it at therapy.”
“HEY THAT WAS ONE TIME!”
“4 times actually.”
“I- COACH!”
Y/N and Konoha kept bickering, ending up with Konoha in a headlock and Y/N being pried off by Yamato and Akaashi. Y/N huffed, grabbing her bag along with everyone else, and locking up.
As she saw groups of people beginning to leave, she saw Keiji approach her.
“Let me walk you home today?”
“KEJEHTBT”
Y/N heard a squeal, turning to see Kaori repeatedly slapping Yukie’s arm in excitement, sighing, she turned back to face Akaashi with a smile on her face.
“Fine, but my feet hurt so you’re either taking my bag or we walk slow.”
“Or.”
“Or? What do you mean or-“
Akaashi bent over slightly, putting his bag on the ground. Y/N stared at him for a while, him obviously signaling for her to climb onto his back.
“N/N I swear to god you’re gonna give me scoliosis hurry the hell up”
Y/N climbed on, wrapping her legs around his middle and arms around his neck. He had his bag and hers draped across his shoulders as she laid her head on his back.
“Comfy?”
“Yessir, indeed!”
The two kept up chat whenever something came to mind, even showing him the picture Kaori managed to get of you guys while beginning your walk home. After a while, Y/N climbs off his back, only 5 minutes away from her house.
“Akaashi?”
“Yes N/N?” She sighs, brushing hair out of her eyes. While she debated on confessing tonight, a lot of signs were saying that it wasn’t the right time. Y/N could be anywhere with Keiji and it would be magical, but if he liked her back, she’d want it to be memorable for him as well.
“Are you gonna come to the game?”
“Of course, I want to see you spike some poor girls head again.”
“Kaaasshiiii” Y/N whined, swinging his hand in frustration.
“In all seriousness, it would be cool to see you kick someone else’s ass for once.” Y/N scoffed, giving Akaashi a light shove on his shoulder.
“That’s because you deserve it, asshole.” He scoffed back, placing a hand on his chest in offense.
“I’m the asshole?”
“Mhm!”
“Nu-uh!”
“Ya-huh!”
This went on for 3 full minutes. Bystanders stared at the pair arguing like children, meanwhile they looked like they could be college students.
“IT WAS THE OTHER DAY AKAASHI.”
“OH SO WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO PAINT MYSELF GREEN? I AM NOT THE MATERIAL ✨C A S H M O N E Y ✨ Y/N.”
Y/N wheezed, smacking Akaashi’s arm as they walked into her driveway, now realizing how dark it was since they probably took twice as long. Y/N sighed, the last few giggles escaping her lips. She looked at Keiji who had a toothy smile on his face, him already looking at her.
“Thank you for walking me home, Keiji.”
“Anytime, N/N.”
Y/N sighed, turning to walk to her door.
“Y/N?”
This mf better not confess right now it was a really good time-
He lifted his arms, making grabby hands at her, Y/N’s head tilting in confusion. She makes her way back over to him, coming into close proximity. He wraps his arms around her waist, turning to stuff his face into her neck. Y/N tenses up, then relaxes, wrapping her arms around his neck.
“What’s this for, Keij?” Y/N releases Akaashi, looking up at him. He turns, beginning to walk away, but turns back to face her.
“Cuz I’m a lonely bitch, Y/N. Jesus get your mind out of the gutter. Premarital hugging? Never.” Akaashi keeps a straight face, Y/N staring back at him to see who breaks first. However, they break at the same time, laughing loudly once again. After a few seconds, the lights on Y/N’s porch flickers 3 times, signaling its time for her to come in. As she goes to go up the stairs, she runs back to him a third time.
Y/N stands on her tippy toes, kissing Akaashi on the cheek, slowly sinking down.
“Thank you once again, Keiji.”
As she finally starts to go up the stairs, Y/N turns her head to face him once again, giving him a small wave which he returns.
She makes her way into the house, slipping off her shoes and running up to her room, falling backwards on her bed with a huge smile on her face.
“Heh, cute.”

Notes
Y/N likes Akaashi
This is not the first time Yukie has called herself mama Yes Y/N has called herself daddy
The girls attacking eachother was a usual occurrence
Bokuto DOES know that Akaashi was there with her, but just wanted to see what he would say
Coach would make Y/N do serving drills last year so that while she skipped her own practice, she was still practicing
Y/N thought the plural of goose was gooses, hence the GC name
This is not based on a true story please do not call me out I BEG 😀✊
Atsumu flirts with Y/N for fun, nothing serious
Everyone has pet names for Y/N, while Y/N just calls them “gooses” as a collective group
Osamu calls Y/N “doll” because the first movie they watched together was “Captain America: The First Avenger”
Osamu does NOT like Y/N
Y/N did not actually use the net as a race line
Akaashi is a VERY calm person around everyone and around Y/N, but once in a while Akaashi does get on the chaotic levels of Y/N, even if it just for a few minutes
Akaashi walked home with his hand on his cheek
Y/N squealed at 1am, remember Akaashi doing the grabby hands so he could get a hug
Y/N also realized that she had kissed Akaashi on the cheek as a moment of boldness Yes, she called the girls and Kuroo

plainly in truth, chapter 1/5
“Without you around, it's sorta like stuff is just kinda...bleh."
Or: hiding, confiding, and misguiding.
read on ao3 or below the cut :)
The sweat on the back of Ryuji’s neck is thick as he climbs the stairs to his apartment after a lengthy run.
It’s hot for spring, mild for summer, and now that it’s late June, it’s finally starting to teeter into real heat. He escalated slowly, gripping the guard rail like an old man to make sure his legs don’t give out, in no rush to head back to an empty apartment. His mom’s been doing back to back shifts, businesses booming like it does during this time of the year.
Normally, that would make him miserable. Nothing worse than hopping back from a day of fun shit only to come back to an empty living space with laundry piled to the nines and the TV left running. He doesn’t blame his mom because he’s not an asshole, but he never dealt well with being alone. But nowadays, he’s actually starting to like it. Crave it. Maybe a little too much.
It’s easier to deal with being alone than getting that sinking feeling he gets whenever he talks to his friends.
Shoving his hand in his basketball shorts, he pulls out his keys when something makes him pause. The plastic plant beside the entrance had been moved. Ryuji squints. Quietly, he grabs the knob and turns. It’s unlocked.
“Hey.”
Ryuji lets out a frustrated sigh, tension leaving his shoulders as he kicks the door closed. “Fucking hell. How’d you get in here?”
Seeing Ann sit primly with her legs crossed in a dining table that’s barely big enough to put two plates down evokes a feeling of nostalgia in him. She holds a key between her fingers idly. “Spare key hasn’t changed since we were thirteen.”
He walks to the fridge, pulls out a carton of milk and drinks it straight, ignoring her grimace. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he offers it to her.
“Hard pass.”
“Suit yourself,” he shrugs, putting it back in the fridge. “I’m gonna shower. I think we might have some chips in the cupboards if you want some. Might be stale though.”
When Ann speaks again, her tone is flat. “You haven’t been hanging out with us. Or even talking to us.”
He tries not to let the annoyance show in his face too much. “Yeah, well, what part of ‘I need some alone time’ was confusing to you?”
Wood creaks, and he can feel her presence right behind him. “Cut the crap, Sakamoto. Something happened, I know it did. It’s not like you for your big mouth to be shut like this.”
Shaking his head, he strides to his room, praying that Ann will take the hint.
She doesn’t. “Okay, so I’ll just keep talking until something happens.” She leans against his door frame as he rummages for a change of clothes, listing off with her fingers. “It’s summer vacation, so it’s not a school thing. Phantom Thief stuff has been done for a while, so it’s not that either. I saw your mom last week, and she’s doing great. Congratulate her on the promotion for me, by the way. And the only other thing in your life that’s important is—” he hears her pause suddenly. “Are you and Akira doing okay?”
The sudden sharpness in her voice is enough to make his irritation ebb away for a second. “We’re fine,” he answers, pulling a probably clean shirt from the bottom of his drawer. He knows just how much she’s invested in their relationship. She’s pretty much a third member given how desperate she is to make them work. “I would’ve told you if we weren’t.”
“Thank god,” she breathes. “So what’s going on?”
“Nothing,” he rolls his eyes. “A big fat load of nothing with nothing sprinkled on top. You want me to say it again?”
“If it’s nothing, then why aren’t you over the moon that Akira’s finally visiting tomorrow?”
His stomach does a weird flop inside of him. He can’t tell if it’s a good flop or a bad one. “I’m over the moon,” he defends. “I’m crazy excited.”
“Then show it!”
“Okay! Damn, sorry I wasn’t happy enough for you.” Giving up on finding clean shorts, he picks one up from the floor and hopes it isn’t too gross. “I’m headed to the shower.” He rounds on her, giving her a glare. “And do not tell Akira that anything’s going on with me, ‘cause there isn’t anything going on. You’re just gonna make him worry for no reason and he’s gonna be all—” he frowns, overexaggerated. “—About this, so cool it.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. He won’t hear about it from me.” Ann gives him a long stare, and he refuses to look away. “You sure you’re okay?” she asks, softer this time.
“Never been better. Now scram.”
“Good. See you tomorrow, and don’t be late!” she calls as she marches through his apartment, foot out the door. “Noon! Leblanc!”
“I got it!” he yells back.
When the lock clicks back into place, Ryuji leans his back against the wall, letting his eyes slide shut. Is he that obvious that Ann would notice? He rubs his eyes with palms, frustrated. If Ann noticed, Akira’s definitely going to notice, and that isn’t allowed. He’ll just have to do better.
Going into the bathroom, flicking on the shower, he realizes he forgot his towel in his bedroom. Stupid Ann, distracting him.
Padding back to his room, he nabs it from the side of his bed, refusing to look at the letter collecting dust on his desk as he flicks the light off once more.
Akira came home to a face-full of streamers, two pots of curry, and six arms tackling him. Smiles and hugs were passed like a bottle of wine after a war has been won, and Akira shrugs it all off like he isn’t soaking up each and every exclamation of how much they miss him for a rainy day. Morgana gets his fair amount of head scratches, Akira gets enough noogies to warrant a concussion, and even Ryuji somehow manages to forget his problems for approximately three minutes.
It’s evening now, and while everyone had already left (not after slamming down two plates each and Yusuke brazenly asking for tupperware after the fact), Ryuji decided to linger.
“So,” he starts, sleeves rolled up as he washes the dishes while Akira dries. It might not look like it, but he doesn’t mind doing his chores; especially not with the way they both purposefully knock their knuckles against each other whenever they pass a plate between themselves.
“So,” Akira repeats. “I’m home. That’s cool, huh?” Even with eighteen layers of nonchalance layered on top of each other, there’s no hiding the lilt in his voice.
“Pretty damn cool,” he rinses a mug and hands it to him. Ryuji pauses as he watches Akira dry, lip quirked up. “I like seeing you like this.”
“Cleaning?”
“No, you bastard.” He reaches forward, unable to help himself as he pinches his cheek. “Smiley.”
Akira slaps his hand away. “I’m always happy,” he says, voice fond.
“I didn’t say happy, now did I? I said—” Ryuji wipes both hands on his jeans before pinching his cheek with both hands. “Smiley!”
He doesn’t fight back this time; instead, he lets Ryuji knead his face. “Your hands are wet,” he complains, slightly slurred.
“Suck it up.” His skin is mesmerizingly soft. Probably softer than even a girl’s. He would hold him like this all night if he’d let him. “This saves you from washing your face tonight, so you’re welcome.”
With one last tug, he reluctantly sets him free. Akira’s face is red and blotchy from the assault, but somehow he pulls it off because of course he does. “Thanks,” he deadpans.
“Don’t sweat it, dude. You know I got you,” he laughs, and for a second, he feels good. Light. Being with Akira does that to him, a pendant that wards off all evil. The pendant must’ve had some fine print in the contract though, because his stomach drops again when he remembers again. Ryuji turns around and starts scrubbing the pan harder than he needs to. Chill out, chill out, chill out.
Arms encircle his waist. “Sojiro’s gonna smite us if we don’t finish these before he opens tomorrow,” Ryuji says.
“I know.” A chin hooks around his shoulder blade, sliding in place. A perfect fit. “We’ll get to it.”
Ryuji leans back, far enough to smell the shampoo in his hair. He breathes in deep. It’s not what he’s used to, probably different brands in his hometown, but it still smells nice.
With the water still running, a group of businessmen’s laughter booming from just outside the cafe, Ryuji nearly says it. To take that weight off of his weakened knees and share some of the burden with someone who’s never complained about carrying some of his baggage. It would be embarrassing, humiliating, fucking mortifying, but it would be better than this, right?
He opens his mouth. “Missed you,” is what comes out instead.
“Missed you more, I think.” A beat passes, and then Akira continues, quietly: “You don’t know how good it feels to be back.”
That was all it took. The final piece, the last lock. The words he needed to convince him that this was the right thing to do. If he was on the fence of whether or not to tell Akira, this was the tug that took him over the edge. Because Akira came here for one reason: to have fun. To feel good again. To feel like Akira again. Is Ryuji really going to be the one to shit all over that? To fuck up his summer vacation with his problems again?
Yeah. Fuck that.
He wishes he can pull Akira impossibly closer. “Welcome home.”
It can wait until he leaves. After that, the world will just have to explode, taking him with it.
Ryuji’s in bed that night, tossing and turning, blanket tangled in his legs and head underneath his pillow, when he finally caves.
Smacking around for his phone, he pulls it to his face, squinting against the bright light.
SR: futaba

“Okay, this is getting a little ridiculous,” Ryuji says when he opens the door to his apartment.
Ann is sitting in his dining chair once again, this time donned in hot pink shades and a comically big sun hat. He tries not to let annoyance and panic flare inside him. He loves her, because of course he does, but he was banking on stocking up some energy and alone time before they hit the road. Maybe even shed a couple of frustrated tears, who knows? As long as he’s alone, it’s fair game.
“Hey, don’t give me any of that,” Ann says. “You and packing your luggage is like mayonnaise and my flawless complexion—it’s not good, buster. Remember Hawaii?”
He feels his skin heat up, and slams the door harder than he should. “How the hell was I supposed to know I’d get randomly checked? ‘Sides, I didn’t do anything illegal.”
“A backpack filled with condoms and a toothbrush might as well have been illegal.” Ann reaches into her pocket, whipping out a wrinkled piece of paper. “You can’t pull that kinda crap now, and if I know him as well as I do, I’m sure Akira’s already packing for that.” She laughs at her own joke and raises her hand enthusiastically. He can’t help but grin as he high fives her. Hey, even if his life is falling apart, at least he’s still getting some, right?
“So I’m here to help,” she continues, shaking the sting from her palms. “I finished packing a day early and everything, so I better get some thanks after this.” Before he can complain, she holds up a finger, expression stern. “I know you don’t need help. Yes, I’m still worried about you. Yes, I’m doing this because I’m worried about you. Let me do this stupid little thing, okay? It’ll make me feel better.”
His stomach churns, more intense than usual. “You’re still worried about me?” he asks, breath hitching. What? No. Did he fail at that too? Does she know? That must mean Akira knows, right? And if Akira knows, then—
“Whoa, hold on!” A hand grips his shoulders. “Deep breaths, Sakamoto. Don’t spiral on me now.” Gently, he’s led to a chair. He sits gratefully and waits for his heart rate to drop. The entire time, Ann stays quiet.
Eventually, when the room stops closing in on him, he sighs and leans back against his chair. “Sorry,” he says, feeling really stupid. Damn, what happened to him keeping this on the down low?
She slaps his knee. “Shut up, don’t apologize for that,” she scolds, and he almost smiles. It’s easy to forget how good Ann is at this sort of thing. For better or for worse, she’s had plenty of practice while talking to Shiho. The grip on his knee tightens. “Ryuji…”
He shakes his head. “No.”
And, for better or for worse, she absolutely does not let things go.
“Look, buddy.” The grip is starting to hurt, and it means business if her red acrylics are anything to go by. “I just saw you have a teensy little panic attack two damn minutes ago, and you’re expecting me to just leave you to it? Are you a clown? Are you a clown in a circus, Sakamoto? Is that what you are?”
“I just don’t want to fucking talk about it.” He shoves her hand off his knee, and before he knows it, his voice is raised. “Christ, can’t you just leave me alone? All you do is get up in my business when I clearly didn’t ask you to. Just cause we did this whole Phantom Thief crap together doesn’t mean it gives you the right to everything going on in my life.”
He loathes the ringing in his ears from his own voice. He hates it when he yells in the apartment, but hates the silence that follows more. Too much like his dad, too much like his exhausted mom.
Ann is staring up at him, hard and unwavering. “You’re such a piece of shit sometimes.”
“Huh?”
“If you want me off your tail, you’re gonna have to work harder than that.” She gets on her feet, glaring at him. “‘Piss me off and make me leave in tears’ was your tactic, right? Boring. Overdone. Try again.”
The way she’s standing, shoulders pushed back and chin jutted out like she’s ready for a shoot in some kind of army magazine, means she’s dead serious.
“Ann, just get the fuck out of my house. You’re really starting to get on my nerves.”
“Ooo, classic 'angry and make me storm off’, right? Better, but not good enough.”
“What the hell are you even saying?”
“I’m saying that you could say whatever pops into your bleached head—” she flicks his forehead, viciously sharp nails digging into his skin. “And I wouldn’t go anywhere. You could call me names, or threaten me, or try to hurt me, but I am not going anywhere.”
Her eyes are bright blue, but he can still feel the heat of it like Carmen was inches in front of him. His throat quivers when he swallows. She’s really not going to give in.
“My knee’s been real bad lately,” he relents, making a fist and lightly knocking it against his thigh. “Normally it acts up during bad weather, but the sun hasn’t left in weeks and it still sucks. I didn’t wanna tell anyone, ‘cause I hate talking about…” he trails off, but she doesn’t need him to continue. They both know damn well who he’s referencing.
Ann’s face crumbles. “That’s horrible,” she says, absently rubbing the red mark on his forehead. “I’m sorry I was mean.”
He waves it off, the same way he does whenever his mom asks him if he’s getting enough sleep. “Don’t sweat it. I know how crazy you get.”
It’s a real testament to how worried she must’ve been when she didn't take the olive branch. “I know you probably don’t want to worry the group, but you should tell Akira.”
“Ann—” he starts wearily.
“You know I’m right about this. Now that the Metaverse is back and we’re going to be running around more, he can’t not know about this. Your boyfriend aside, he’s our leader. Something really nasty can happen if we’re not thinking straight.”
“...Sure.”
Ann gives him a weird look. “That was surprisingly easy. I thought you’d complain more.”
She’s getting way too sharp. “What, you wanted me to be a dick about it?”
“I guess not.” Leaning against his kitchen counter, she chews her lip like it’s bubble gum. “Can I do anything to help?”
“Yeah.” Ryuji stands to stretch, ready for this conversation to be over. “You can keep this between us—”
“—Except for Akira,” they say in unison, Ryuji exasperated and Ann insistent.
“Fine. I’ll back off if you think you have it under control.”
“Hallelujah, she’s finally giving me space.”
“But,” her gaze is harder than steel. “Never, ever keep secrets from me again, got it?”
Ryuji rolls his eyes. “Gotcha. Can we get started now? I’m over talking about my horrible past so that we can finally have a straight-out-of-an-anime summer vacation.”
Her eyes brighten up. “Yes! Okay, I made this huge list and I know for a fact we’re gonna have to go for a quick shopping trip—”
“Quick? So, like, three hours going by your standards?”
“Don’t interrupt me. We need to pack some swim trunks, toiletries, and I know you’re worried about your mom so we’ll go grocery shopping for her before we leave in the morning.” Feet tapping excitedly, “This is gonna be so fun. You start packing, I’ll go shopping. Rendezvous in an hour.”
Before he even gets a chance to put a word in, she’s already out the door.
Later that night, when everything is messily thrown into one oversized backpack and a rucksack and the fridge is chock full of groceries for his overworked mother, he gets a text.
TA: i know you said not to bring it up but i dont care TA: i searched it up and apparently cold and hot compresses can help with the pain on your knee TA: also getting shoes with really good support would help too. i modeled for some shoe brands, i can def get you some discounts!!! TA: like, i know this is all base level stuff and you know this already, but i bet you we can ask sophia for more help. maybe she can access top secret doctor stuff for knee injuries?? :O
Ryuji stares at his phone for a long moment, before shoving it under his pillow.
Great. Add ‘guilt’ and ‘keeping up with a lie’ to the list of shit he has to worry about.
“A lake!” Yusuke cries, kneeling in front of the body of water like a man discovering a desert oasis. Gently, he cups the clean water and cradles it against his cheek. “You are nothing like the garbage-infested sewers in Tokyo. You are crystal clear. You are divine. You are salvation. You are—”
“Akira, Inari’s being a weirdo again,” Futaba points an accusing finger at Yusuke, who’s shirt is slowly absorbing more and more of the water. “At this rate, he’s gonna have to change.”
Makoto grunts as she lugs out the grill singlehandedly, a loud clang ringing out when she nonchalantly sets down a family-sized piece of machinery. “Alright, here it is.” She catches the look of awe that Ryuji’s giving her. “Does it still shock you that I can probably bench press you twice over?”
“I’m just trying to figure out where you’re hiding all that muscle, prez,” he snorts, and it’s the truth. Her and Akira must be the same breed, considering they’re both way too lithe to be this strong. He’s seen the way they throw a punch in the Metaverse—they could probably disintegrate a dude in real life if they really wanted to. Like yeah they workout, but not that much. Maybe they’re dieting too? He’s tried dieting, but ramen is just way too good, even at the expense of muscles.
“Ryuji, when you’re done spacing out, can you grab the ingredients?” Akira calls out.
“Ugh, cut the mind reading dude, it scares the hell out of me.”
He shoots him a signature Kurusu Akira smile; small yet disarming all the same, and it never fails to get Ryuji’s heart to do weird flips. “It’s not mind reading once you realize that I’m just obsessed with you.”
Instead of answering, Ryuji grumbles as he stalks off into the RV. Damn him and his genuine words and compliments.
He pulls out their luggage from underneath the table. Akira doesn’t need to say what ingredients he needs to grab—he’s helped out enough times during Leblanc’s afterhours to know the curry spices by heart. Ryuji might be a failure, but hey, he can do this no problem.
Grabbing bottles and shakers and balancing them on top of his arms like an overworked waiter, he glances left and feels his heart dropped. The envelope from his room—dust-free from rubbing against the rest of his luggage—is sticking out of his backpack. After a quick adjustment, he uses his free hand to shove it deep in his bag, hearing the paper crinkle in on itself.
It was a spur of the moment decision to bring it along with him, one that he’s still half-regretting. Why’d he do it? Maybe he was worried that he might enjoy this trip a little too much? Maybe he was some kind of masochist that likes having his problems and anxiety follow him literally everywhere he goes? Maybe he was scared to hell and back that his mom would find it before he had a chance to tell her himself? Fuck if he knows.
Poking his head out of the door, he yells, “Heads up!”
Throwing a bottle of black pepper, Akira catches it without looking. “Thanks.”
“Don’t sweat it.”
“Too late, I already sweat a little bit.”
Ryuji squints. “It’s sweated. Right, Ann?”
“Don’t look at me. I went to America for modelling, not a spelling bee.”
“I won all my spelling bees in middle school,” Makoto says, chest puffed out in pride.
“Were you the only one who joined?”
“That’s not important.”
Akira’s phone beeps enthusiastically, and Sophia’s voice rings out. “Got it! According to the internet, ‘sweat’ and ‘sweated’ are both grammatically valid. Technically, both Ryuji and Ann are correct.”
“Can we all just shut up for a second about sweating, for the love of god,” Futaba fans her face weakly. “It’s already sooooo hot. I feel like my skin is melting. Yusuke, is my skin melting?”
He looks at her for a moment, peering closely. “Yes.”
“How about we go in for a quick dip in the lake?” Haru offers, and Ryuji suspects that she can feel the same energy that he’s feeling when the group gets like this. “We were all talking about how beautiful it was, and it would cool down Futaba-chan no problem.”
She leans down, swirling her hand in the water. “It’s a little chilly, but it’ll definitely take care of the heat.”
“Good idea!” Futaba jumps up and throws off her shoes, ready to march in. “This is gonna feel so good.”
“Socks!” Akira reminds her.
“I know that!”
Haru and Yusuke follow suit, eager to get away from the heat, Makoto going in to change to shorts. Ryuji guesses it’s probably not an easy feat to roll up leather pants. Probably makes it either to ride motorcycles, or whatever people with leather pants do.
He feels a poke in his side. “You hopping in with them?” Akira asks.
No. The answer is already at the tip of his tongue, ready to roll out. Given how cramped the RV is, keeping up the trademark Sakamoto energy while lugging more baggage than an airport employee is brutal. It’s barely been a day since they started the trip, and he’s not sure how much longer he can keep this up. Already his chest feels heavy with something, and whenever all the windows are rolled up, it gets weirdly hard to breathe. But if he says no, Akira would definitely know something was up.
“Uh—”
“Actually, I think we’ll take over the curry for you,” Ann cuts in.
Ryuji turns to her, startled and wide eyed.
“Why?” Akira asks, just as confused as he is. They both know how much Ann loves being in the middle of things, especially in group hangouts.
“Because you look like you could use a break. I know for a fact that you had to pack Yusuke’s stuff for him, or else the van would’ve had fifteen canvases and an easel, and you had to grocery shop for everyone, and talk Haru out of a guilty spiral because she wasn’t confident enough in her driving. And all this before—” Ann looks down at her wrist to peer at a non-existent watch. “Five o’clock.
He frowns. “Sure, but I’ve done twice as much during our prime. This,” he gestures at the pot. “Is a walk in the park. Thank you, though.”
Ann sighs, heavy and contemplative. “I didn’t want to say it out right, but since you’re being difficult…” She places a hand on his shoulder. “You should hang out with Futaba more. Being gone from her for that long has been rough, and yes, we took care of her while you weren’t there, but you’re different.” Her hand tightens. “You know, Wild Card and all that.”
“That’s not what that means, but I appreciate the effort,” Akira says. Despite his words, it’s clear that what she said bothered him. Eyes flickering to Futaba, enthusiastically kicking the water to see how far the droplets would go, he directs his gaze to Ryuji. “Is it okay if…?”
Ryuji rolls his eyes, pretending like relief isn’t crashing through his body. “Go.”
Akira kisses his cheek. “Thank you.” When he pulls away, he gives Ann a hesitant look.
She grimaces. “Thanks, but no. Go hangout with the gremlin.”
He gives her a salute and saunters off, rolling up his jeans to wade through the water, making sure to splash Futaba on the way there.
After a moment of silence, he sighs. “Fine, I’ll say it. Your acting classes are actually doing you some good.”
“Ha!” she points at him triumphantly. “And you said it’d be a waste of time!”
“I didn’t say that.” Ryuji slouches into a nearby camping chair, the one that Sojiro forced them to lug along, hoping that some of his fatigue would seep away. “We both know that Futaba’s never been better, so what’s up? Why’d you throw out Akira like that?”
“It’s not for me, stupid,” she scoffs, but he can’t help but feel the weight in his chest get even heavier. He sinks even deeper into his chair. “The water was cold, right? That would make your knee even worse.”
“Yeah,” he blinks, having already forgotten the whole fucked-up knee story. “Thanks.”
“I won’t chew you out for not telling Akira, even though I should. But like I said,” she ruffles his hair. “I got your back. I know it must be hard, but you’re still acting all normal. We’re lucky that it’s only affecting you in the real world, too.” She had come up with that one herself, and thank god she did, cause he wouldn’t have known what to say if she had confronted him on how he could easily do flips and sprints in the Metaverse. “That just takes a lot of guts, and even though I know for a fact this would make you feel so much better once you tell him, I trust that you know what you need better than me.”
“Quit trying to look all cool,” he says, and prays to fucking god that the red on his face comes off as embarrassed gratitude rather than earth-shattering guilt. “And aren’t you supposed to be cooking, curry master?”
“Hey, he asked you to do it, not me. I’ll help you get the ingredients, but no way I’m doing the whole cooking shebang.”
“Ugh, fine,” he says, as if he doesn’t secretly love the idea of getting to cook for Akira this time instead of the other way around. Pushing himself up, Ann reaches out to help him. “You don’t gotta baby me, Takamaki.”
“I’ll baby you for as long as I need to, and then eventually Akira will be the one babying you. We come in shifts.”
“I hope you’re unionized.”
Makoto pokes her head out of the RV, wearing a showercap. “Did someone say unionized?”
“What the hell?” Ryuji staggers back in shock. Crap. “How long have you been there?”
“And why are you wearing that?” Ann gasps.
“Not long, and I don’t want my hair getting wet in case I fall in. We have no idea what’s been in here.”
“Were you going to fall in a bathtub?”
“Did you want me to push you in?”
“No, ma’am.”
There wasn’t a problem initially. Well, not one in Palaces, anyway. Wait, they’re called Jails now, which is really confusing. Ryuji’s just gonna have to avoid using those words so he doesn’t make himself look like an idiot.
Back in Shibuya, it had been...fine. Attacks landed, punches were dodged, Batons passed like his life depended on it (and it did). Like clockwork, instinct came to him and the weird nostalgic normalcy of fighting Shadows made it bearable.
Ryuji was off his game, and he could tell.
But he was barely off his game. If anything, he still had a foot on his game. Maybe even an entire leg on the game if he was being generous. He was still enough on the game that even Akira doesn’t notice.
But the weird part was, he doesn’t mind the fact that he’s off his game. In an even weirder way, he’s never been more on his game in his entire life.
“There!” Futaba’s voice crackles through the comms. “Uncle is open wide!”
“Her name is Ante, Oracle,” Makoto responds, brass knuckles jammed into the throat of some poor Shadow. “It’s open, but it’s vicious.”
Ryuji calls for Kidd just as she pulls away, wiping out the rest of the weaker ones with ease. “This thing’s like a goddamn mousetrap.” Ante’s serpent body slithering on the cool tiles so fluidly that it gives him the creeps. Her tail has tiny spikes etched into it, like mini knives hot glued onto a tetherball. The minute any of them even come close, she strikes outwards. “How vicious is vicious?”
“Depends on how fast you are.”
Akira’s head jerks up, and when their eyes meet, cracks a smile. “Fast, you say?”
Ryuji grins wider than he has in days. Joker relying on him? How can someone not feel a little giddy at that? “Say no more, leader.”
He stretches quickly, and feels eyes piercing the back of his head. Ann, probably. Shrugging it off, he sprints low towards Ante. As long as Ann doesn’t say a word, there won’t be a problem.
She’s taken hits from where Akira’s been concentrating on her. A mixture of bullet holes in its scales mixed in with cross slashes from where his bless attacks hit had left her delirious and pissed off. When he’s close, she bares her fangs and strikes, only for him to skid on the smooth tiles, rugged hands touching his mask.
“Come on out, Captain!”
His blond hair ruffled from Kidd’s attack, a crack of lightning came down from his Persona’s mangled hand, and a split second later her tail had been sliced clean through. And another crack comes, her neck landing on the tiles with a muffled thud. An attack that should’ve just been enough to incapacitate Ante had instead completely decapitated her.
A beat of silence passed as everyone processed what had happened. Ryuji’s mouth drops open, but he can’t muster any surprise.
He doesn’t know how, or why, but for some reason his attacks have been at least five times as strong as they had been back before the Metaverse was still intact. Moves that he didn’t even know are on the tip of his tongue, as if he had practiced them all his life. Normally this would only happen after rigorous training for months, adding up in tiny increments.
Now it happens every day.
“Well, looks like someone woke up on the right side of the gym today,” Futaba laughs awkwardly.
“What on earth was that, Skull?” Haru asks, eyes wide. “I had never seen you do something like that.”
Morgana’s tail swished. “She makes a good point. When’d you learn that one?”
“I don’t know.” He calls back Captain Kidd, eyeing the drop that Ante had left behind, but doesn’t move forward to snatch it up. “But whatever the reason is, it’s awesome as hell. I mean, did you see that? Sliced that thing open like a stuffed bear.”
“Let’s not bring stuffed animals into this, please,” Makoto frowns.
Akira’s giving him a look again, and it leaves Ryuji unsettled. “What is it, dude? I got something on my face?”
“No,” he steps closer, and his voice drops. “Are you alright?”
“Am I alright? I’ve never been better, man.” He flashes him a grin, hoping that it’s bright enough to distract Akira’s ever-searching eyes. “Come on, let’s get moving. Natsume’s heart isn’t gonna change itself.”
After one last glance, he nods, and Ryuji can see the minute Calculating Joker comes back. “You heard him. Let’s get moving, everyone.”
They all follow him up the stairs, eager to get moving past the eternally bleary and uncreatively written setting of Natsume’s Jail.
“Psst!” Ryuji hisses at Ann, who turns to him with a question in her eyes. “Panther! Get your ass over here!”
“What?” she whispers back.
He rubs the back of his neck. “I fucked up my knee when I rushed her, and I still haven’t told Joker, so do you mind…?”
An expected look of disapproval emerges from her expression, and Ryuji hurries to beat her to the punch. “I know, I know! But I can’t tell him in the middle of all this, now can I?”
“Fine,” she grumbles before calling Carmen. “I’ll cover you for now, but only ‘cause I’m a good friend and I’m super cute.”
“Yeah, the cutest, prettiest, whatever.” He glances over to Akira, swooping down to grab Ante’s drops before heading up. “Quick, before he looks back.”
Diarama washes over him, and even though relief floods through his body, he can feel a bead of sweat running down his temple. He’s not sure if it’s from her inherent heat or from the stress of lying to her again.
“Better?” Ann asks.
“Way better. Thanks.” He catches Sophia looking at them curiously. “The kid’s watching us. You better move ahead before she starts analyzing our personality types or something.”
Her eyes light up. “You think she’d do it if I asked? I really wanna know.”
“Just go!”
Ann hurries to catch up to Sophia, and while she’s distracted, Ryuji gently rolls up sleeves—he had gotten nicked by Ante as he slid. Normally that wouldn’t have been a problem; he had gotten thrown through walls, been hit by mini hurricanes, been blown up by a boat, and walked away from all that still swinging.
Yet lately, any tiny, fractional, miniscule injury is enough to shoot unbearable pain throughout his entire body. It’s as if he was back in Kamoshida’s Palace, where every punch thrown at him had been life or death.
Glancing down at his forearm, he sighs. The cut was gone, but he can’t keep asking Ann to heal him in secret every time.
“Skull?”
Hurriedly pulling down his sleeve, he glances up to see Akira standing in front of him.
“Everyone’s waiting for you,” he says casually, as if those words don’t mean the entire goddamn world to Ryuji. “You ready to go?”
“Yeah,” he answers, shaking his head. “My bad. Let’s go.”
They clambered up the staircase, and Ryuji decides that all of that stuff—getting injured and having it hurt like hell—just isn’t too important.
That just means that he’ll be fine as long as he doesn't get hit, and he’s had plenty of experience dodging punches that were thrown at him before.
“Cheers!”
All of them raise their red plastic cups, clinking it against each other in a way that they see adults do all the time on TV. Apple juice and iced tea slosh as they gulp it down eagerly, excitement so prevalent that they can hardly taste the cheap, convenience store-esque quality of their drink.
“This isn’t too bad,” Makoto muses, leaning against the faux-leather seats of the RV. “Though it would probably taste better if it wasn’t room temperature.”
“Does it look like this place has a mini fridge?” Futaba says, legs swinging down from her top bunk. “That’s a good idea though. I should’ve bought mine from home. Can you imagine we’re halfway through a six hour road trip and you want iced coffee and boom! Two feet behind you is Futaba’s Ice Cold Cafe, one hundred yen per use.”
“I hope you’d be ready to sleep on it, because this place is cramped enough as is,” Akira slaps the wall a few times, the way a rancher would a sturdy horse. “We’re lucky with what we have.”
“I know that! Without this thing we never would have been able to conquer Natsume’s Jail.” She reaches down to muss Yusuke’s hair. “I’m sure Inari feels good about that.”
He smiles, hair sticking up in all directions. “Of course I feel satisfied. Though I understand his struggle, being able to stop a fellow artist into becoming a true monster is always something that will bring me joy. Justice will never stop feeling good.”
“Cheers to that!” Ann raises her drink. “And you know what? This wouldn’t have been possible had Ryuji not kicked some major ass in that Jail.”
The group whoops and hoots loudly, and Ryuji can’t help but scoff when Ann winks at him. “Aw guys, you’re making me blush. I’m fucking awesome, sure, but we’re all pretty amazing.”
Haru shakes her head. “She’s right, Ryuji-kun. WIthout you, defeating dragon Natsume would’ve been much more difficult.”
“Even I can admit that you’ve gotten much stronger, Skull.” Morgana leaps onto the table, licking up the bowl of apple juice that Haru had left him. It feels wrong to let an animal drink that, but he’d never say anything about it. “Have you been training?”
Ryuji shrugs. “Yeah, a little.”
“Ooo, look at Mr. Humble all of a sudden,” Futaba jeers.
“I’m always humble!”
Ann grimaces. “I don’t think so. Remember when you finally got Akira to go on a date with you—”
“How dare you. He was begging me to go on a date with him—”
“And you wouldn’t stop telling us about how you had nabbed the coolest guy in Tokyo—”
Ryuji nearly jumps over the booth to put a hand on her mouth. “Quit yammering, Takamaki, I’m begging you.” He feels something slimy on his hand, and pulls back quickly. “Ew, did you lick me?! That’s so effing gross.”
“You’re gross.”
He feels a hand on the small of his back, warm and familiar. “I don’t think you’re gross, Ryuji,” Akira says. “I think you’re very clean.”
A harmonic beep rings through the air. “Sorry to interrupt,” Sophia’s clear voice cuts in. “But Akira, you got an email.”
“Thanks Sophie.” He points to where his phone is perched on the windowsill, propped up so she can see them celebrate their victory. “Can you…?”
Ryuji wordlessly passes it to him as everyone breaks off into smaller conversations, chatter blending into each other until it sounds like the kind of white noise he would queue up when he’s desperate to get some studying done. Immediately, Akira begins scanning through his phone, gray eyes focused.
He props his head against his shoulder to read alongside him and makes a noise of interest. “You signed up for cram school?” he asks, surprised.
“I did,” he replies, thumbing through the details of his admission.
Ryuji stares at him. “But you’re so fucking smart. Why are you paying who knows what to learn shit you already know?”
“Because Tokyo U barely cracks a 30% admission rate, and chemistry is hell incarnate.” With one last few clicks, he sets his phone down with a wince. “Sure is expensive though. We might have to reform the heart of someone in the education committee.” When he continues to stare at him wordlessly, Akira turns to him. “Don’t worry, I’m still leeching off of the Thieves' money from last year, so it’s not too bad when you take into account my part-time back home.”
“No, that’s not—I’m just—” he shakes his head and forces himself to start over. “Since when did you decide on Tokyo University?”
It’s Akira's turn to look taken aback. “What do you mean? You’d never leave Tokyo, especially if it meant leaving your mom.”
“That’s not the point. The point is I’m making you choose between me and your hometown!” he exclaims, but he already knows in his heart what Akira’s choice is going to be. It’s stupidly obvious. For some reason, the longer this conversation goes on, the tighter his chest feels.
The feeling doubles when Akira’s eyes, always focused and always sharp, subdued at his words. “Are you really comparing yourself to that place? You know I’d choose you over anything.” He reaches forward and combs through Ryuji’s hair, hushed and gentle in a way that only Akira can manage. “I’m so excited to live life with you again.”
The white noise, so comfortable before, abruptly turns overwhelmingly loud—grating and unbearable and painful to be around. Ryuji stands abruptly, barely reacting to Futaba’s yelp when he backs into her.
“Hey! What gives?”
“I…” his eyes dart around, flinching when he accidentally makes eye contact with Akira, and again when he locks eyes with Ann.
The sudden silence from the group is somehow worse than the noise from before, and if the tightness in his chest gets any more painful, his lungs are gonna burst into a million pieces and he’s not gonna be able to pick it all up from the ground if everyone’s watching.
“Trash,” he blurts out.
“What?” Makoto blinks, glancing up from her map.
“This place is disgusting and it’s way too cluttered and it’s bad to leave such a big mess so I’m gonna—” Ryuji grabs the plastic bag filled with garbage, haphazardly tossing empty cans and plastic cups into it. “I’ll be back. Don’t wait up.”
Before they can question him, he’s already out of the RV, towing trash and leaving his friends behind him.
“What the fuck was that?!” Ryuji screams into the sky.
He was far enough from the trailer that he knew they couldn’t hear him even if they had strained their ears, and it was late enough into the night that even the tourists weren’t poking around to look at the shrines or the Great Masamune himself.
“Keep it a secret’, my ass! That was the second dumbest thing—no, the third dumbest thing you’ve ever done in your entire life. Do you know how high that threshold is, Sakamoto? High! Higher than you can see with your own two eyes! Higher than Yaldabaoth’s goddamn crane-sized spine!”
Swooping down, he grabs a fistful of pebbles and throws it as hard as he can. “You are so selfish! What happened to keeping ‘Kira happy, you effing asshole?” Relishing in how far it went, he takes another two more. “You are so annoying. You are—” he throws, the rocks landing with a little plink. “Insufferable. Stupid. Selfish. A fucking—” this time, he doesn’t even know where it lands. “Gah!”
Turning on his heel, he glares up at the statue and grits his teeth when he sees Masamune’s stoic expression. “Don’t give me that look—you’re dead. You ain’t got nothing to complain about. Everyone’s remembering you as the guy who saved Japan, or whatever. But guess what? You’re probably a loser. A dumb, stupid loser who convinced everyone that you’re good for something when you’re worth jack shit!”
Before he can stop himself, he takes the garbage bag full of cans, glass bottles, and crumpled chip bags and hurls it at Masamune. It hits the base of the statue, far below damaging the One-Eyed Dragon himself, but the glass cracks under the force of being thrown, tearing through the plastic and causing trash and shards to explode all over the steps. Ryuji’s chest is heaving as he stares down at what he’s done.
“Impressive.”
He whirls around at the voice behind him, stomach lurching straight to the ground when he sees who it was. “In his years of war, I doubt that anyone’s ever tried throwing waste in his direction in order to defeat him.”
“Yusuke,” he breathes, feeling his frustration draining away to make room for even more guilt, if that was even possible. Ryuji cannot possibly look any more of an asshole than he does right now—tearing his throat raw in a public space, surrounded by the garbage he had thrown at a national monument in front of a guy who clearly worships and respects art that’s old as hell. “Sorry, I’ll clean it up, I promise. I was just…” he hesitates. “Talking to myself.”
Yusuke hums, unconvinced, and carefully approaches the mess in front of him. Ryuji waves him off. “No, don’t. Broken glass is a bitch, especially the little pieces. If that gets in your skin, it’s game over. You’d have to go into the hospital for sure.” He grimaces. “Trust me. My dad used to throw beer bottles at our place like he was in a ball game, and that ain’t fun, I promise you that.”
“I see.” Turning around, Ryuji hoped that he was magically going to head back to the group and not mention this to anyone there, but instead Yusuke stopped in front of a water fountain. “You’re right. If you’re not careful, it could be very easy to hurt yourself when dealing with broken glass.” Pulling out a handkerchief from his breast pocket in a way that only Yusuke can, he soaks it in water before crouching down at the shards glimmering under moonlight. “But if you use wet fabric to dab it on the shards itself—” he pats the concrete and flips the fabric over, revealing the moist and glistening pieces stuck on its side. “You can clean up the pieces with little to no danger.”
“Huh.” After a moment, he realizes that he’s making Yusuke do the dirty work for him. “Pass me that. Thanks for the tip, but I can take it from here. I mean,” he rubs the back of his neck. “It’s totally my fault that the glass is here anyway.”
He doesn’t look up from his task, eyes focused and movement meticulous. “No need. If you’d like to help, you can start picking up the non-dangerous litter around us.”
Ryuji does as he’s told, wincing as he has to pick up sticky, pop-soaked wrappers with his bare hands but he doesn’t complain. Karmic retribution has never held back against him. “The glass thing,” he starts, squatting down and picking up empty cans and plastic utensils with curry remnants still stuck to them. “They teach you that in Kosei?”
“No, from one of Madarame’s past pupils actually.” Yusuke shifts over to dab at another glass-covered section, concrete looking clearer with every pat. “Sensei had a rather violent habit of hurling canvases at the wall if they do not meet his standards, and his actions had led to many of our more fragile belongings being shattered when he did.” His tone doesn’t change, but Ryuji can see his shoulders tighten. “At least it allowed me to move away from that house very quickly, considering I had very little to pack away.”
Ryuji opens his mouth to comfort him. Instead, he finds himself speaking in a low tone. “Glad that bastard is rotting in jail,” he resists the urge to spit on the ground. “Then afterwards, I hope he rots in hell, just to really cover all of our bases.”
That pulls a chuckle out of Yusuke. “Thank you,” he smiles, and all Ryuji can do is nod. There isn’t much you can say after that without making it weird. But how weirder can it possibly get when the two of you are off towing around someone’s perception of the world on a daily basis?
They continue to work in silence; the wind is gentle, but it’s enough to rustle the leaves and allow Ryuji to feel some relief from the summer heat. He’s picking up wet paper tissues, and it’s gross, but it’s nice to be doing something with his hands.
He’s just about done his part of the clean-up when he can’t take it anymore. “Aren’t you gonna ask?”
“No,” Yusuke answers without looking up. That’s another thing that Ryuji really appreciates about him—playing dumb has never been something that he’s done to get out of an awkward situation. To be fair though, Yusuke himself is an awkward situation.
“Why not?”
“Did you want me to?”
That question makes him pause, and Yusuke doesn’t wait for an answer. “You’ve always been the most vocal in the group, and while many a time it has been our downfall in terms of secrecy, I have always considered it one of your strong points. And if you, Sakamoto Ryuji, are indeed struggling with using your words,” Yusuke’s eyes turn to him. “Then it must be very difficult to talk about.”
A beat passes. “No,” Ryuji mutters. “I don’t want you to ask.”
“Then I won’t,” he says easily. “But I do have a question.”
“Lay it on me.”
Yusuke shuffles to crouch down next to him, and it’s kinda weird seeing someone as elegant as him pose like some kind of hoodlum. “Does Akira know about your struggle?”
His mind flashes back to the confused look back in the RV and he scratches his neck roughly. “I bet he does now.”
Yusuke leans back, shocked. “He doesn’t know?”
“I’m getting there! Don’t pressure me, man. You said it yourself, I’m fucking struggling.”
“Well, yes, I did say that, but it’s Akira,” he says the name almost reverently. “I’d be surprised if he doesn’t sense that something is askew.”
“I just said that, didn’t I? Goddamn, you and Ann are just two of the same peas in the same freaking pond, aren’t you?”
“It’s ‘pod’, Ryuji,” he corrects. “Ann is aware?”
“She—” Ugh, how does he explain that she thinks she knows, but really he had lied about what he told her? “She basically knows.” And because his fat mouth just keeps getting fatter, “She’s sort of part of the problem.”
Yusuke’s eyes widen and Ryuji hurries to cover up for his mistake. “She’s not a problem, it’s just that I didn’t explain…It’s really my fault, and how I deal with internal shit, you know what I’m saying? And Ann’s just kind of in the crossfire, so what ended up happening is when I talk to her about what I’m feeling, I end up just feeling worse.” He winces. First he lies to her and now he’s shit-talking her? “I did not say that. What I really mean is that, uh, feelings...and actions...are complicated,” he finishes weakly.
“I see,” he says finally.
It seems that even Yusuke has a threshold for uncomfortable moments, because he rises to his feet. “Thank you for sharing all of that with me.”
“Uh, yeah, for sure. Thanks for the glass trick.”
“No need to mention it. It’s much easier to clean up a mess when you have someone helping you.” He points vaguely behind himself, “Would you like to head back together? I’m sure by now the festivities are winding down, and the trash you were so keen on disposing of has definitely been thrown away.”
Ryuji blanches. It grossed him out that he forgot he was holding an armful of garbage in his hand. “You go ahead. I just need to,” he rocks his arms, almost cradling the wet garbage. “Throw this out.”
“Very well. I’ll see you when you get back, then.”
He waves at him, and Ryuji wiggles in response (unless he wants it all hitting the ground and restarting that whole process again, which, no thanks.) After dumping it all into a nearby trash can, the process of which lasts several minutes since he still had to sort out the recycling, he feels a buzz in his pocket.
KA: come back when you can KA: i miss you
He takes a shaky breath.

Shapeshifter AU - 3
Tumblr media
Iwaizumi x f!reader
<< Part 2 | Part 4 >>
Summary: Y/n has a mission to complete. Iwaizumi’s friend is in town.
Word count: 3k
Tumblr media
Warnings:  work stress mentioned, alcohol + bar location, y/n makes bad choices (following a stranger to a second location, hanging out with the person she should probably avoid), also is kind of a creep (the creepy-ness won't last i swear), some people are drunk, including Oikawa, bless him, best boy is also best wingman, kinda, y/n refuses to put real names in her phone contacts, someone gets dumped/ghosted, Oikawa is so drunk
Not a warning but: Iwaizumi Hajime (27) Athletic Trainer. That’s what you’re here for, right? That’s what I’m here for.
Genre: sfw (for now, 18+ regardless), shapeshifter au, potential enemies to lovers
a/n: I introduced an OC in this part, Mizuki. I hope you come to love her. As someone who kins Oikawa, I gave him my “drunk persona” for the bar scene. He’ll be normal later, I swear.

Part 3: So We Meet Again
It was no secret among Y/n’s friends that she loved to visit the bars in downtown Osaka, but a locally owned bar in Ikuno was a favorite of hers when she wanted a change in scenery. It was small and cozy with friendly staff. Besides university students, mostly middle-aged men frequented here, but everyone seemed to mind their own business and leave her alone, as she preferred.
Double doors closing behind her, she was met with the sounds of chatter from other patrons and classic rock playing from the sound system. The smell of alcohol was not overwhelming and someone definitely has hot wings. The dark oak counter was straight ahead, lined in front with at least a dozen matching stools with black leather on the seats, and shelves of alcohol bottles behind. Booths lined the side walls and high tables with stools were spread amongst the center.
She walked up to a part of the counter no one was occupying and waved to the bartender. A short middle-aged woman with dark hair, only slightly peppered with grey. She usually worked here when y/n visited, but she could never remember her name and felt too awkward to ask for it again.
“Hey sweetie! You haven’t been in here in awhile! I was wondering if I was gonna see you again,” the woman spoke cheerfully as she always does, “What can I get for you? Something fruity or thinking something different tonight?”
She smiled at the bartender. “You can’t get rid of me that easily,” she winked, “And I’m thinkin’.. strawberry vodka-Sprite.”
“Can do!” She leaned in closer with a grin, “Should I make that strong?”
She leaned in as well, grinning back, “Hmm.. Why not.”
“I’ll get right on it,” the bartender took off and got to work on the drink. She went ahead and grabbed money for the women, dropping it on the counter in front of her with a hand resting over it as she looked around the bar. Sometimes a friend or two would be here and she’d invite herself to their table, otherwise she usually just picked a stool at the counter and chatted with whoever was bartending that night.
“Here ya go, sweetie,” the woman placed a short glass in front of her and Y/n pushed the money towards her.
“Thank you,” she picked up the drink and hopped onto a stool, spinning her back to the counter as she sipped the drink; tending to be more comfortable with people watching than socializing with strangers. A table to the left was full of older gentlemen, two of them seemed to be arguing, and oh look, they have the hot wings. Some college girls were squealing over something nearby, colorful drinks on their table. She continued looking around the bar, idly sipping her vodka-Sprite, relaxing after a long day of work.
Eventually, a man’s voice caught her attention from the right corner of the bar. He has styled brown hair and seems pretty tall now that he’s standing in his booth, waving his hands around while yelling. Is he telling a story or fighting with the other guy at his table? The other guy growled something at him with a smack to one of his flailing hands.
Buzzing in her coat pocket grabbed her attention from the two. Lifting her phone she saw a text notification from a friend. Turning to face the counter once more and setting down her glass, she opened the text.
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “im so mad at him”
Mizuki’s never ending boy trouble it seems. Her taste in men usually didn’t end well for her; meaning she often had to console a sad or angry Mizuki. She brought her drink to her lips to sip at while she texted her friend.
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’:  “is that so”
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “im serious! we made plans and he ditched me”
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “AGAIN!!”
Didn’t she just say the other night that she wasn’t seeing this guy anymore? Either way, her plans are ruined and she’s not happy. She’s probably looking for someone else to hang out with tonight and vent to.
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “okay okay I’m sorry”
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “are you home?”
Someone was now standing beside y/n ordering a drink. The sudden voice next to her had her glancing up by instinct. Only to immediately snap her head back to her phone, now leaning over the counter with it. Hair falling around her face.
It’s him.
Shit.
Well this wasn’t in the plan for tonight. So much for unwinding at the bar. She’s now fully winded and on edge.
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “no I’m out. Sorry.”
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “where?”
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “in Ikuno”
Raising her head, she sees the man from outside the woods is no longer next to her. Phone buzzing once more as she takes a gulp of the vodka-Sprite.
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “ugh are you at that dive bar?”
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “its nice here. You can join me if you want”
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “no thanks”
>> From 'My Best Bitch <3': “When will you be home?”
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “i just got here.”
The bartender appeared once more and offered a refill now that her glass was pretty much empty. She nodded and thanked her.
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “what about blondie? I think he’s been dying to hang out”
Should she go see her? Probably. But Y/n’s on a spontaneous mission and her bestie was always up for a slumber party anyway, so he can help her vent and get all these negative emotions out. She looked over her shoulder to see if the man was nearby, only to catch his gaze from his spot at the table with the brunette man she determined to most likely be his friend. Neither of them are blinking and she mentally curses herself. Back to back buzzing broke her staring contest and she checked Mizuki’s messages.
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “yeah i guess he’s free.”
>> From 'My Best Bitch <3': “He’s coming to my place.”
>> From 'My Best Bitch <3': “If you get bored you know where to find us.”
The bartender handed over a new drink and she once again immediately paid for it.
What am I going to do about this? He’s staring too much to not know, right?
I could be overthinking this.
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “love you. Sorry your date was a dick.”
But it couldn’t hurt to keep an eye on him for now.
Once again looking over her shoulder, a new vodka-Sprite in hand, she gained some courage. Some. She could always abort the mission and was sure the nice lady behind the counter would save her if she came running. Hopping off her stool and walking toward the two men’s booth, the brunette looked her way and offered a smile.
“Hello, pretty lady,” the brunette’s smile turned smug, “What do we owe the pleasure?”
Once he spoke, the other man looked in her direction, looking a little surprised. “Hey..”
“Hey there,” looking between the men before she continued. What’s the plan here again? “Mind some extra company? I was chatting with the bartender, but she seems busy.”
“Of course! You seem harmless enough. I’m Oikawa Tooru,” he waved a hand towards the other man, “And this is Iwa-chan.”
“Iwaizumi,” Iwa-chan intercepted.
“Y/n. Are ya sure I’m not interrupting you two?”
She sat next to Iwaizumi after he shook his head, “Oikawa has been retelling a story I already know.”
Oikawa looked insulted, “I come to visit and you’re going to complain?!”
“Oh, you guys aren’t from around here?”
Plan decided. Well, half a plan. A mini plan until she figures things out later - but there needs to be a later. Find out where he lives or at least get his number in the case that he does actually know about the whole wolf thing, so she can find him if needed. Getting his number should be easy enough; if not Iwaizumi’s, then probably Oikawa’s. Because she is a pretty lady.
Thanks, Oikawa.
“Well, no, weren’t not, but he doesn’t even live in Japan anymore,” Iwaizumi pointed to his friend.
So maybe Oikawa is out.
“We grew up together in Miyagi,” Oikawa chimed in, “but I moved away to become an amazing setter in Argentina! He moved chasing dreams too.” He winked at Iwaizumi, who completely ignored it.
“You’ve always been an amazing setter,” Iwaizumi brought his beer to his lips.
“So you live in Japan still?” She asked, swirling the straw around in her drink.
He didn’t have the chance to answer before Oikawa answered for him, “Yup! But enough of that. What brings you to this place? There’s so many nicer bars and clubs in Osaka.”
“I found this place back in college. There are lots of options here, but this place is one of my favorites.”
He shot a disgusted look, “Why?”
Iwaizumi flicked a balled up straw wrapper at him, “There’s nothing wrong with this place!”
“Hate to make myself sound like an alcoholic, I swear I’m not, but I’ve never seen ya here before and I feel like I would have recognized you two if I had.” She played with a piece of hair near her face. Oikawa mouthed ‘oh’ and wiggled an eyebrow. To be fair, as pretty as he is she would have recognized him if she had seen him before.
“Funny, I think I’ve seen you around,” Iwaizumi returned his attention to his drink momentarily. Meanwhile, Oikawa was looking between the two across from him, straw between his lips.
Quietly sipping her own drink, she tried to think of some sort of reply to pick at that comment. He could have seen her here, but what if he’s referring to the parking lot outside the forest? Oikawa interrupted her thoughts before she could gather anything useful.
“So you live around here then?” She went wide eyed for a second and he immediately waved his hands in front of himself apologetically, “It sounds like you’re here enough if this is a favorite. I just figured-“
She cut him off with a chuckle. “You’re fine! And you could say I live in the area, yeah..,” she glanced at Iwaizumi, “Is it safe to guess you’re in Osaka too?”
He hesitated, “Yeah. Not too far from here.”
Good good.
“So Y/n, where are you from,” Oikawa pushed his now empty glass to the side, “Or have you always been in Osaka?”
“Ah, no. I moved here for college and stayed after graduating. I grew up in Hyogo actually,” she giggled, “Guess we all moved from home, huh? Though I didn't move as far as either of you.”
“Excuse me,” Y/n let Iwaizumi out of the booth then scoot back to take his spot. He grabbed his glass and Oikawa’s, “I’ll grab us new drinks.”
He looked at her asking if she needed anything to which she shook her head, then he took off with the empty glasses.
“So you both moved here for careers then,” Oikawa nodded towards Iwaizumi who was already halfway to the counter.
“That so?” She blinked at the fuzziness in her head. Miss bartender did indeed make her drinks stronger today. Should probably call it quits after this one if she hoped to sober up by the end of the night.
“After college he moved here to be closer to- Well, he was in Tokyo then here. But anyway, he’s an athletic trainer for the pro volleyball teams here,” Oikawa leaned in as he spoke. “Though it's too bad he won’t come to Argentina to work with my team! I do miss him.”
She gave a sincere smile, “Do you get to see him very often? That’s so far away..”
Oikawa’s grin dropped and spoke somberly, “I usually fly back home a couple times a year, and every time I come to see him.. We do talk on the phone a lot though.”
“Here,” Iwaizumi set a new cocktail in front of Oikawa, but that was the only drink he had in hand, “You weren’t talking shit about me while I was gone, were you?”
“You didn’t get yourself anything!” Oikawa complained, then went right to sipping on his straw as his friend slipped into the booth next to her.
“I’m fine for now. Maybe later.”
“Fine, Iwa-chan,” he settled back down, “Oh! It sounds like Y/n has been in Osaka longer than you. Maybe she can tell you all the fun stuff around, so you can do something other than hang with the guys and go to bars.”
Iwaizumi looked less than pleased by that statement.
She snorted, “Well, it sounds to me like we have similar hobbies. I probably don’t know anything you don’t know.”
“Really,” Iwaizumi eyed her expectantly.
“Well.. If you get tired of the lack of grass around.. Most of the area is concrete, but there’s a few tiny parks in the suburbs, and I think one downtown, or near there at least. ”
He looked at her emotionless, “Yeah? I don’t remember coming across any of those. But I have found the large forest east of here. It’s not terribly far.”
Right..
By now she was finishing off her own drink. Oikawa was going on about something that she’s pretty sure is volleyball related. Watching the men bicker, she not-so-carefully sat the glass in front of her before placing her hands on her thighs.
Iwaizumi broke his attention from Oikawa at the sound of glass clicking against wood and looked at her glass then her. “Sure you don’t want anything?”
“I’m hoping to not leave my car here tonight.” She grabbed her phone to check that Mizuki hadn’t messaged her. With the lack of notifications she figured that meant she was happy now.
>> To ‘Blondie’: “you are with Mizuki right?”
“Oh! You drive?” The bottom of Oikawa's glass hit the table hard out of excitement. Hopefully he didn’t drive here too. “What do you drive?” He’s excitable and full of questions, that’s for sure. Isn't she supposed to be the one asking all these questions?
“I do.. I have a Civic.” Playing with the straw and leftover ice in her empty cup.
>> From ‘Blondie’: “ur just now checkin???”
>> From 'Blondie': “I’m the better friend of course i showed up”
Ouch.
>> To ‘Blondie’: “i figured i just checkin”
Slumping back in the booth she was once again watching the boys talk. Oikawa is really animated.
“Are you texting your partner?” Oikawa winked, “Oh! Let me give you my number!” And he nearly knocked over his drink trying to slide his phone to her. Iwaizumi let out a string of curses as he kept the glass from falling and moved it out of the way.
Laughing, she took his phone and entered her number, going ahead and putting ‘Y/n-chan’ as the contact before sliding the phone back. “You didn’t drive here, did you?”
“Iwa-chan! Give her your phone!”
He sighed and grabbed his phone, opening the contact app before handing it to her. “He did not. We Ubered here.”
She put her number in his phone too, being sure to text herself with his phone so she would have his before handing it back.
Phone number down.
Oikawa tapped around on his phone and chugged the rest of his cocktail. A buzz from her phone followed.
>> From ‘unknown’: “seroius do u have a lover??”
She managed to half contain a laugh and save his number under ‘Oi-chan’.
“Welp! I’m going to get going. My Uber is here,” Oikawa pulled himself to his feet and smacked a hand on the table in front of Iwaizumi, “I’m going back to the hotel. Go on and keep the pretty lady company, Iwa-chan.” He kissed Iwaizumi’s head which earned him a slap followed by a friendly goodbye and promise of seeing him tomorrow. Then he gave Y/n a big smile before heading away.
Thanks, Oikawa.
Turning to Iwaizumi with a grin, “Yer friend is entertaining.”
“Yeah.. He’s a really good person and friend.”
She offered a soft smile.
“Not to rush or anything,” he started, “but is there a particular time you’re trying to get out of here by?”
“No no,” she straightened, “I had no real plans for tonight other than to chill here.”
And added, “Also didn’t plan on the bartender treating me with stronger drinks than usual either. So.. I gotta sober up before I can leave.. You were smart with the Uber.”
He chuckled, “Maybe remember that for next time.”
“Yeah yeah..”
The two chatted for a good hour, maybe longer. Iwaizumi told old stories from high school of his best friend, as well as what he was doing in Argentina now. He also spoke briefly about the volleyball teams he’s worked with as an athletic trainer. Apparently he moved to Ikuno to be closer to the team in Higashiosaka that he’s been working with the most.
Sitting there she caught the bright street lights outside the windows of the bar, though not too bright with the bar’s tinted windows. She remembered how nice it was out tonight. It would be a good night for stargazing, but with all of the lights in town it would be hard to see any stars. The best place for stargazing here is the forest..
But there is a public park north of the forest. Far from where she runs. It’s probably closed after dark, but all parks were and that never stopped her from sneaking into the forest. Though, the forest itself didn’t have open hours. Pretty sure.
Still looking out the window she started, “Hey.. The sky is really clear tonight.”
Iwaizumi glanced at her. She continued looking outside, “Obviously you can’t see stars anywhere near here.. But north of the forest pass Higashi’ there’s a park with a large clearing that would be perfect.”
He gave her an incredulous look, “You’re not saying you want to go on what, probably an hour drive to look at stars? Are you even good to drive yet?”
Humming she decided she was set on it. Plus maybe from there he’d let her drive him home. Then she'd be two for two - mini mission achieved. “..Can you drive a manual?”

I have been in love with Tetsuro Kuroo since I was seven years old.
I still love him—eighteen years later.
Growing up as best friends, he was never a hard person to love. He looks out for me, brought me out of my comfort zone, hell, he’s the reason why I’ve grown into who I am today. I’d never admit that to his stupid face, though.
I was seventeen when I realized my love for him was more than just platonic. He was a year older than me, so by the time I started my third year, he was already off to university. The harsh reality of the situation finally weighed heavy on me when I waited outside of his house for thirty minutes and remembered he’s not coming anymore.
He called me later that evening apologizing, although he did nothing wrong, because that’s just the type of person Kuroo was. The next week he surprised me by waiting outside my door to walk me to school.
“I miss this,” he reminisced, staring up at the sky.
“What?” I turned to him, heart racing just a little more than usual, hoping for a certain string of words to come out of his mouth.
“Walking to school like this every morning.”
They didn’t.
I don’t know what I was hoping for. Maybe I wanted him to say he missed walking with me. I’m not sure whether I’d rather hear lies or the truth. That was the day I admitted to myself that he’d be the only person for me.
Now here we are, me at 25 and him at 26 sitting in my office with my publicist yelling at us for being so reckless in public. It was a misunderstanding, really.
“How could you do that at a party where you knew there’d be press coverage?” Kata was pacing back and forth while I rested my forehead on my crossed arms that laid on the glass desk and Kuroo leaned back in his chair on the other side of the table.
“Kata,” she stopped mid-stride and turned her attention to me as I muttered, “how many times do I have to repeat myself,” I lifted my head back up, “IT ISN’T WHAT YOU THINK.”
Kuroo found it difficult to hold back his laugh.
“I don’t think you should be laughing, Kuroo-san. You’re in just as much trouble as Kozume-san.”
He stopped laughing.
“Anyway, it doesn’t matter what I think. It was never about what I thought. The point of my job is to make sure you look good for the public. Thats what a publicist does. Now the issue here, is that the public thinks you’re dating.”
“Okay, wow so all it takes is for me to fall, Kuroo to catch me, and some no-name photographer to snap a picture of us for us to be considered ‘dating’ now?”
“Kozume-san if you play into this little charade, say for a couple months, just long enough for the new product to be released, sales will go up, and then you can just announce that you two called it quits.”
Was it really worth playing with my heart just to earn a quick buck?
“No. I don’t want Kuroo to be forced to date me, that’s weird and embarrassing.”
Kata walked forward and took a seat in the chair next to Kuroo before she leaned forward and rest her chin on her hand, “Here’s the thing Kozume-san, you two ‘dating’, doesn't even have to be real,” proud of her award-winning idea, she leaned back in her seat, arms folded across her chest, and a smug look written all over her face.
“So what you’re saying is to do this as a cash grab?” Kuroo seemed genuinely curious.
“Well somewhat. Think of it more like...fan service.”
“Hmmm...I mean if it’s a show they want then it’s a show they’ll get,” he reached over and smacked my back, “What do you say kitten? Be my scene partner?” he smirked.
Ugh. Why does he have to use those stupid nicknames that always make my heart flutter. My face was visibly cringing as i scrunched up my nose and scowled at him. He knows I could never truly refuse when it’s him.
“Fine,” I mumbled under my breath as I looked away.
Kuroo’s footsteps were light as he got up from his seat and went around the desk to sneak up behind me. He bent down and leaned in close towards my ear.
“What was that, puddin?” he whispered, his hot breath whipping through my loose strands of hair.
I jumped out of my seat and rubbed my ear with the sleeve of my jacket and he laughed his ugly, stupid, hyena laugh.
“See! Look at that! You two aren’t even ‘dating’ and yet you have so much chemistry!” Kata said enthusiastically while clapping.
Of course we have chemistry. We’ve been best friends for eighteen years. Soulmates our whole lives. It was always easy to be around Kuroo. That’s one of the things I love about him. Why wouldn’t we have chemistry?
“Well, when you’ve been best friends with someone for like, your whole life, of course you’re gonna know exactly how to push his buttons,” his voice was breathy as he wiped tears from his eyes.
I didn’t realize it then, but I truly did sell my heart for pocket change.
A full month later was when we went out in public together as a “couple” for the first time. It was a simple brunch at a well known restaurant, but Kata made sure to anonymously tip paparazzi that we would be at that establishment. Together. It wasn’t even 30 minutes into our meal when we were bombarded with cameras.
“Today we are here with Kenma Kozume, the young CEO of Bouncing Ball Corp., and his supposed boyfriend, Tetsuro Kuroo, from the Japan Volleyball Association. Are any of you able to speak on the rumors spreading about the two of you?”
Kuroo had always been good at talking. He's been smooth with his words for as long as I could remember him. He was...a people person. The complete opposite of me, which is why we agreed that Kuroo would do most of the talking, should a camera crew show up.
He laughed, not the ugly hyena kind, it was an attractive laugh. That’s how I knew it wasn’t real.
“Well I mean we won’t confirm or deny anything right now, won’t we kitten?” he winked at me and suddenly all the attention was directed towards my direction.
Idiot. Two can play at that game.
“Im pretty sure whatever the public is thinking is probably true, hm Tetsu?”
I’ve never called him that before, so it was obvious he was shocked. Big eyes and blushy cheeks. We gave the camera exactly what it wanted.
“Is that a confirmation?” the man behind the camera was provoking us for an answer.
“It’s whatever you want it to be,” he smirked before taking his chopsticks back into his hand and grabbing a plate full of beef, “Now if you gentlemen will excuse us, we’d like to continue our lunch date.”
Satisfied with the content they would now be able to work with, the cameras slowly started retreating from the scene until it was just us two again.
“Damn maybe I should’ve gone into show business,” he smirked.
“Shut up, they might still be around,” I whispered while looking down, incase we were still being watched.
“How do you know I was talking about that. I could just simply be saying that I would’ve been amazing on T.V.”
“No you wouldn’t,” I replied, monotonous voice, as I took a bite of some barbecue and rice.
“Kenma, why do you have to break my heart like this? What if I was born to be an actor?”
“Uhm I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen an actor that has the same hairstyle twenty-four seven, three hundred sixty-five days a year.”
“That’s a technicality. Why should hair define my amazing acting abilities?”
“Then I want to see you shave your head and wear a wig.”
Kuroo froze in the middle of whatever movement he was making and just stared at the grill in the middle of the table with a horrified expression written on his face.
“You know what? Maybe I wasn't meant to be an actor...”
Outings usually continued on like this. We would have little interviews with paparazzi, slowly dropping more and more hints about our “relationship,” and once they left, we’d have breakfast, lunch, or dinner, like we usually do. I suppose to any outsider it would seem as though we were on a date, but I wouldn’t allow myself to call this pitiful get together as such.
I could pretend this was real. I could tell myself that Kuroo reciprocated my feelings. I could tell myself that we were truly in a relationship. I could tell myself I have a chance, but a mere sliver of probability isn’t worth risking our friendship.
Since I was seventeen I accepted the fact that I’d be happy as long as he was in my life. I mean, he’d still smile the same. He’d still laugh the same. He’d still love me...
I’m supposed to be content with what I have. It’s either we stay as best friends, or we go on as strangers, and I’d rather avoid the latter. So why do I feel such a tightness in my chest whenever we’re forced to go out together? Why do I feel so selfish for wanting more?
Two months went by until we had to make an actual appearance together at a party. Me under Kuroo’s arm like some sort of bittersweet candy.
He was always good at reading people—especially me. Which is why he pulled me aside before we walked into the huge rental house. The only reason I agreed to show up was because it was Shoyo’s team celebrating their win against some team who’s name I can’t remember.
“You okay Ken?” he rested both hands on my shoulders with my back against the wall.
“Yeah, I just need a second.”
I never did like big crowds.
After taking a few minutes to breathe before submitting myself to the abyss of rowdy adrenaline-high athletes, Kuroo took my hand in his as we walked through the front doors together. It was warm. Like my fingers were molded to fit perfectly into his palm. Must’ve been why I felt so cold when he let my hand go.
As soon as the camera flashed and Bokuto called him from the other side of the room, he whispered an “I’ll be back kitten,” before joining the beefy player by the bar.
I guess I’ll go find Shoyo.
It wasn’t long until I saw a bush of bright orange bobbing up and down through a sea of people.
“Shoyo!”
“Kenma!”
“Congratulations on your win.”
“Thank you! I wouldn’t want to disappoint my sponsor,” he winked, “Do you want to step outside? It’s a little loud in here.”
Whether he means to or not, Shoyo’s always been good at making sure people feel comfortable.
“Uhm, Shoyo?” I grabbed the hem of his shirt and tugged a little to get his attention.
“What’s up?” he practically had to yell over the loud music and the incessant yelling of the surrounding people.
“Can we get a beer first?”
A smile spread across his face, “Of course, just wait for me by the fire outside.”
I followed his instructions and sat in one of the red lawn chairs that snaked around the circular bonfire.
“How’ve you been?” the ginger said while handing me an opened beer and sitting in the chair next to me.
“I’ve been alright. Things are running smoothly for the product release—”
“I didn't ask about how work was, Kenma,” he interrupted, “How are you?”
“Oh. Uhm...I’m keeping it together.”
He leaned back in the plastic chair and took a sip from his drink, “So you and Kuroo-san, huh?”
I looked around to make sure no one was near us. I could never lie to Shoyo.
“Barely,” I mumbled as I, myself, took a big gulp.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“It’s an act. All because of a misunderstanding from a few months ago.”
“Well did you have a choice?”
“Not really.”
“That's unfortunate. I thought you would’ve told him how you felt by now.”
“Wait- what do you mean ‘how I felt?’ You knew?”
“I may not be that bright, but I have eyes, Kenma. I can see the way your eyes gloss over when he calls you one of those cute pet names, or the way your cheeks redden when he does that weird laugh at your jokes.”
“Hmm... You’re more observant than I thought, Sho.”
“So why haven’t you told him?”
Just thinking about confessing scared the shit out of me. All I can imagine is the disgusted look on his face when I tell him. The scenario plays over and over again in my head—the one where he walks away and fades into the background. I don’t know when I started crying, but I had only realized it when I heard the glass of Shoyo’s bottle tap the ground.
“What’s wrong?”
I wiped the hot tears from my cheeks with my wrist.
“I guess I just love him too much to lose him.”
Two weeks after that party, we had another meeting at the office.
“This has been going great so far!” Kata exclaimed, obviously proud of her idea, “Have you ever thought of being an actor?” she teased Kuroo.
“See! That’s what I’ve been telling Kenma, but apparently my untamable hair is standing in the way between me and fame.”
“You’re already all over the news, idiot.”
“And all thanks to my little kitten,” he walked over to my seat behind my desk and peppered my cheek in kisses.
“We’re not in public, you can stop acting all lovey dovey,” I spat. I didn’t even think about my words until Kata’s effervescent expression changed into a state of confused shock. She wasn’t sure how she should react to my outburst.
“W-what? It’s all fun and games, Ken,” Kuroo was taken aback by my response as well, but he hid it much better than my publicist.
“It always is with you,” I got up and walked out of office. I couldn't take it anymore. All this pretending and toying with my heart. I felt bad for blaming it all on Kuroo, when he couldn’t have possibly known about my feelings, but it was easier to blame him for my pain than to admit to myself that I’m a coward.
I rounded the corner and continued on my way to the vending machine to get an energy drink. Those always seemed to put me in a better mood.
Kuroo knew me well. Who wouldn’t after eighteen years? That’s probably why he knew exactly where to find me.
“What the hell was that, Kenma?”
I pulled up the tab of the can and let the hiss of carbonation fizzle out before I took a sip and leaned against the wall.
“What was what?”
“You’re little scene in there? What’s going on?”
“Nothing is going on.”
“You’re lying to me.”
I looked off to the side, my eyes scanning every row in the vending machine, “I just think it’s time to call quits on this charade we have going on,” I responded dryly.
“Huh? Why? It’s only a couple more weeks until the release. Why end it now?”
“I’m tired, Kuroo. I don’t want to have to pretend all the time anymore.”
I was never an emotional person, so I knew that in this moment Kuroo knew something catastrophic was going on inside my head, for me to put myself before the potential success of the company.
“It’s just for a little while longer and then we can go back to normal, okay? Can you just hold out until then?”
“No. You’re not listening to me. Why the hell do you want to keep doing this. This doesn’t benefit you in the slightest.”
“Because I love you,” my heart rate went up at these words although I knew he didn’t mean them in the way I wish he did, “You’re my best friend and I want to see you thrive.”
“Why are you always putting yourself on the line for me?”
“Putting myself on the line? What are you—”
“I’m so selfish! And then you over here,” I rolled my eyes at him before kicking my weight off the wall, “You constantly give but you never take!”
“I don’t see the issue with that.”
“You’re too good for me,” I looked to the ground because I knew that if I looked up into his gorgeous hazel eyes, I would definitely cry.
“That’s not true—”
“Yes it is and you know it,” my voice was on the verge of cracking from how tired I was from arguing.
“You know what? You look like you need some space. Think about things okay? I’m only a phone call away. I’ll see you at the launch party,” he walked away.
The day of the launch party was a bore. Just a bunch of business men in suits and the growing anxiety in the pit of my stomach, for Kuroo had yet to show up like he promised.
It was half-past twelve when I stepped outside the venue to get some fresh air. The second I opened the doors was when I saw him pacing back and forth, deep in thought.
“Kuroo?”
“Kenma! I’m so sorry about what happened a few weeks ago—”
I did nothing but hugged him like I was going to lose him.
“Why are you apologizing? I was the one that had a tantrum.”
“Well you’re not the only one that got mad.”
“Let’s go for a walk?”
He nodded and draped his heavy arm over my shoulder before he took another step.
“Well so far sales have been good. Almost linear.”
“I’m glad I was able to help. So this is the end, huh?”
We both stopped in the middle of the side walk. I didn’t want it to end. The handholding, the hugs, the camera kisses. I wanted all of it. I so badly wanted all of it to be real. Maybe it’s because I spent half the night drinking, or maybe it’s because his midnight hair ricocheted the moonlight ever so perfectly, that I felt a courage rush through me like never before.
“Why does it have to end?”
“Didn’t you say like three weeks ago that you wanted to end our little ‘relationship?’”
“I don’t mean it like that. I mean,” I unwrapped myself from his limb and stepped in front of him, “I’m in love with you, Tetsu. I have been for eighteen years.”
A piece of my heart cracked when he took a step back, face pale, and eyes widened.
“What?”
I wanted to take a step forward, but for some reason, my feet were glued to the ground.
“I love you.”
He smiled assuringly before he laughed to lighten the air. The same type of laugh he’s used to fool reporters.
“You’re my best friend, Kenma.”
“I know. I’ll never be more than that, right?”
“You know I love you,” I wouldn’t dare get my hopes up again at those words, “You’re like a little brother to me.”
Damn. Is this what it feels like for my heart to be so irreparably shattered? Physical pain spread from my chest throughout my body. To the tips of fingers and toes.
“I—” he started, before giving you that diabetes inducing smile, “I should go.”
I watched him walk away. It was a vision from my worst nightmare. When did it all change? Is this what my selfishness was bound to lead to?
What was supposed to be a simple marketing tactic, turned out to be a fate worse than death. I was heartbroken to think he was my soulmate, but I wasn’t his.

Fall Ball (Kokichi x Reader)
“Hello~ I was wondering if I could request a School AU type were; Y/N and Kokichi are very good friends. And their school is hosting a dance. Kokichi really likes Y/N and wants to take them, but he could never admit it. So Kokichi asks for help from his other friends on how to ask his crush out and jajskakajs. I can just imagine it being so funny and cute. I know you will do great and I hope this is a good request. (Im always soft for the supreme leader)”
This is such a cute request! I am honestly not in tune with Kokichi’s personality, so I’m sorry if it’s a bit OOC! ^-^ Story under the tag~
Kokichi was a bizarre character, to say the least. He pranked, insulted, and drove everyone he knew to the brink of insanity/annoyance
Why people still hung out with him? Everyone who really knew him knows deep down he’d never really hurt them, even if he said things that took it too far sometimes. If he did, he’s always try to make up for it in his own kiddish way
His friends needed to be people who wouldn’t burst from annoyance easily, and that’s where you came in. You indulged him, letting him pull pranks and annoy you while making sure he didn’t take it too far and possibly kill someone (you swear, Korekiyo would’ve caught fire that one time).
He would never admit it, but he was grateful. After all, the funnest pranks take two minds!
Your latest scheme had been the classic water bucket prank on Shuichi. he was located on the side of Hopes Peak Academy, conveniently placed right under a window two stories up. He was with Kaede, both of them laughing and chatting like the old friends they were
“So, uh...Kaede? The fall formal is coming up, and I, well I was wondering if you’d like to go with m-”
His heartfelt speech was abruptly cut off, the sound of splashing water was all that was heard as he was soaked head to toe from above
Both he and Kaede looked up to see two snickering children leaning from a window, one of them holding a bucket
Y/n leaned back into the classroom they were hiding in, setting the bucket down on the floor next to her
“Aw, Kokichi, I love that prank! I can’t believe we’ve done it to Shuichi eight times this week!”
“Yep, and tonight we will make it nine!”
“I do feel kinda bad, though. I know how badly Shuichi wants to take Kaede to the dance next week. Like she’s gonna say no though, right?”
This was the exact topic Kokichi had been trying to avoid yet bring up at the same time. Everyone knows Kokichi has feelings, but he doesn’t allow himself to feel the ones that make him feel bad. He doesn’t like to feel guilt, stress, or negative emotions in general.
“Kokichi? You alive?” A hand was waving in front of his face, he must have zoned out
“Of course! I’m just thinking of something we could do to Kaito when he asks Maki to the dance.” He fiddled with one of the latches on his shirt. “Are you going to the dance Y/n? It’s gonna be mega lame, but Himiko is performing so everyone is trying to go.”
Y/n let out a laugh, punching him in the shoulder. “I’d only go if someone asked me, but I doubt that’ll happen. The only action I’d be getting is from the snack bar”
Kokichi listened as she laughed. He hated to admit it, but he was feeling things that for once he couldn’t repress. He liked Y/n, not just as a best friend, and it was driving him insane! Call it cliche but he really wanted to ask her out to the dance, show her off and have a great time, just the two of them
Kokichi resisted the urge to slam his head into the wall when Y/n grabbed his hand. “Let’s go, Shuichi is bound to be running up here now to kill us!”
After sprinting through the school and evading Shuichi (and getting split up) Kokichi decided to head home, shooting Y/n a quick text to tell her where he was going.
Where he really went, however, was his DICE headquarters, walking in to see all of his members lounging around or playing cards
“Kokichi! Why are you here? Are we setting plan ACES into movement?”
“No, that’s not till next Tuesday. I actually need...advice”
Everyone seemed more interested at this statement. He never needed help!”
“What do you need?”
Kokichi walked over and sat on the card table, a few played cards fluttering to the floor
“Well, today we- Y/n and I- pulled that prank on Shuichi again, right? And then we started talking about the dance next week, and it made me think of going with Y/n, and-”
He felt a hand over his mouth, and cringed at the sudden squealing in the air
“Omigod you wanna go with Y/n! That’s amazing! When are you gonna ask her?!”
Kokichi shoved the hand off of his mouth. “I’m not asking her! I don’t want to ruin the friendship we have.” “Well,” one of his members walked around him, putting their hands on his shoulders “Something tells me she likes you too~” “W-what?!”
Kokichi stood up and paced around for a moment, asking his friends how they knew
“You two already act like a really childish married couple! It’s obvious whatever you feel for her is returned in full.”
Kokichi thought about this for a second, before responding, “Okay, how do I ask her? Nothing sappy or anything!”
His friends grinned, already laying out blueprints for their plan
Kokichi came to school the next day and began ignoring Y/n, as it was part of their plan
“Okay, so first ignore her, then set the glitter bombs to explode at four, and when the teachers are distracted, find Y/n and have Himiko do the magic trick and finally ask her to the dance! Perfect!”
It was not perfect.
It was incredibly hard to hide from Y/n, as she was looking for him all day. On top of that, one of the glitter bombs (which had been safely kept with Kaito) exploded in said student’s backpack, covering everyone in the room with glitter. One of those people was Himiko, who had to go home to wash it off, and in return, Tenko attacked Kaito for ‘hurting’ her.
Kokichi had caused the chaos he originally planned, but not the way he wanted. Students and teachers alike were running around the hall, teachers trying to get kids to the nurses office for glitters in their eyes and students taking this opportunity to leave boring classes
The purple haired kid stood in the corner of some lockers and a classroom, staring at his phone. He had tried to video call Kaito, only receiving a view of Kaito screaming and sprinting, the crazed yells of Tenko behind him, before it finally disconnected. He texted Kaito as well, but none of his messages were being read.
Sighing, Kokichi slipped his phone into one of the many pockets in his jacket before turning around, watching all of the kids and students crowd the halls. Someone rammed into his shoulder, causing him to hit the wall
“Hey, watch it!” Kokichi turned around to glare down the careless student, only to be shoved into the wall again
“Why have you been ignoring me all day? I know you see me!”
The girl in front of him was not a careless kid, but his best friend, Y/n.
“Oh, Y/n! Come here often?” Kokichi put on his best suave smile and leaned against the wall
Y/n punched him in the shoulder. “I don’t appreciate your jokes right now, Shuichi. I want to know whats going on! Why have you been ignoring me? Why are bombs going off? Why is Tenko about to get a murder charge?!” “Why not?” She let out a huff and at Kokichi, folding her arms
“Kokichi, I want to know what’s going on. Now. This is insane, even for you!”
Kokichi looked down at the girl, a million thoughts running through his head. Before he could clear his thoughts, he heard his own voice ring out
“It was for you.”
Y/n looked taken back, as her expression shifted from anger and annoyance to surprise. “What? You better explain yourself.”
“It was for you,” Kokichi let everything out, watching the girl’s every shift in expression. “I wanted to ask you to the dance, but you know I don’t do those things! I asked for help, even though I never ask for help, so you should feel honored! Of course I asked the most incompetent people, against my better judgement, so everything went wrong. The plan didn’t work, I didn’t get to ask you out, and now I’m...finally defeated. So rub it in my face, before I go and find Kaito myself.”
Kokichi looked down at the floor waiting for Y/n to smack him upside the head and call him an idiot. But when he felt no impact, and heard stifled laughter, he became confused. He looked up to see Y/n trying to hold in fits of giggles, grinning from ear to ear
After the girl finally composed herself she looked at the purple haired boy, tears brimming her smiling eyes. “Kokichi, you are such an idiot.” There it is.
He felt Y/n put her hand on his arm gently, and now it was his turn to be confused. “Dude, you didn’t have to do all of this. Everyone knows I like you, and to be honest I thought you knew too! I just knew that you didn’t...feel...like people usually do, so I tried to get over it.”
They stood in a sincere silence, well, as silent as you can be in a crowded and loud hallway.
But to them, it felt like their own little world, just the two of them and a now slightly awkward silence as they stared at each other
Kokichi was the first to break the silence, letting out an awkward cough and casting his gaze at the ground. “So, are you going to be a jerk and make it?”
Y/n let out a small laugh, smirking at him. “Oh, definitely.”
“Ugh, okay, here goes...Y/n, will you do me the dishonor of going to the fall ball with me?”
“I would love to, dork”

TSOTBL - Plight
YALL IM SO SORRY THIS IS COMING OUT LATE SJFHFNJ
Kim couldn't stop thinking about the cave system behind the library. It was so very intriguing, she could explore it all day. Unfortunately she couldn't, as Lucinda and Aaron didn't let anyone go inside, for everyone's safety of course.
“Hmph it's not fair, that cave is so cool and I can't even explore it….” Kim moped, body flopped over the couch. “Aww c'mon Kim, there's still the library...!” Garroth reminded, trying to lighten her up. “True, true, but still…” Kim mumbled, bummed out. “Maybe when we're done with the lodge, we can go somewhere you'd like.” Garroth suggested. “I just wanna go back home. To my rock collection, my tamagotchis, and my two frogs, Peanut and Tater Tot…” “Don't worry Kim, we'll all be home soon.” “Yeah... what are you gonna do right now anyway?” “I think I'm going to go and read my book right now.” “Again? I mean, I understand how addicting a good book can be, but you've been spending hours in your room reading for the past few days now. Sometimes it feels like I don't see you unless we all eat, or have to clean.” “Stop nagging me about it geez! There's nothing to do here, so what if I spend most of my time reading a book? It’s just something I really like, why is that such a problem?!” Garroth snapped at Kim, defending himself. “Hey I was just saying! Geez, I….I didn't mean to make you upset, I'm sorry…” Kim trailed off, feeling bad. “Ahh erm, no I'm sorry. I'm just used to people.…point is I'm sorry! I shouldn't have snapped at you that way, it was uncalled for.” “Ah it's all fine, maybe I'll give that book of yours a read! Judging by how much you like it I'm sure it must be good!” “Oh, um, sure… I'll let you give it a read….I guess...but I'll give it to you when I'm done with it because you read faster than I do!” “Oh yeah true. Well I guess I'll see ya later then?” “Yeah sure.” Garroth said, walking to the stairs. “Well, I guess it's just you and me couch.” Kim said to herself, slowly dozing off on the couch, as everyone else were in their own rooms.
Aphmau was by herself in her room, lying down on her bed, contemplating and reminiscing.
“Urghh Kim's not happy with me...she probably thinks I didn't talk to Zane about the whole being mean thing. I can't just put Zane's feeling aside, and the Ro'meave family drama is not a can of worms I want to keep opening, but just….argh why do I have to be caught between this crap!” Aphmau sighed to herself, smacking a pillow on her face. “Then there's this whole Aaron thing! Are we broken up, are we not, do I still want him, does he still want me, ugh! It's all so frustrating! The only person I don't have any troubles with right now is Lucinda, and that's because Lucinda is the best at avoiding drama….even when it came to breaking up with Ivan, as ugly as the situation became she handled it better than I would have…”
Aphmau stared at the ceiling of her room, it was cracked, with some of the wood from under showing out. The years of the lodge were so very visible from just the wood alone.
“Drama, drama, drama...this is highschool crap. Why can't I just be friends with everybody instead of deal with all of this family drama and romance problems...I wish I could give up sometimes, but what kind of friend would that make me? To just give up when things get hard? Not a very good friend to say the least….” Aphmau thought to herself, sighing audibly. “What kind of friend am I being by letting all this drama slip through my fingers? I should just straighten up and handle this like an adult! Because guess what I am one! But...I don't know, Aaron wanted to get away from all the drama and I don't want to make things worse by accidentally creating tension between everybody, it's already enough that I'm here….ughhhh why Irene why!”
She slumped to her side and grabbed her phone. She began to look through her photos.
“Gosh, despite everything that happened way back in highschool, I still miss the days where I could just hang out. Whether it was spending hours playing video games with Garroth and Laurance while snacking on junk food, or binge-watching anime with Katelyn and Kawaii~chan. Now here I am with all of...this I guess. I shouldn't be so negative though, I had good times then, even when the whole Jury thing happened...if I had good times then, then I can have good times now! I just have to stay positive.” She sighed, in a sense of relief. “Now let's just...take a lil’ breather to not think about all this crap.” Aphmau muttered, as she flopped over on the bed.
Lucinda was fiddling with her wand, alone in her room, casting spells.
“Praefexero.” Lucinda muttered, waving her wand around the room. Magic twirled around the room, in various shapes and colors, it faded almost as soon as it came.
“Nothing...let me try one more time. Praefexero…!” once again magic made its way around the room, but it faded as it did before. “Nothing? Dammit Praefexero!” Lucinda shouted in frustration, this time the spell poofed into a cloud of smoke unlike the previous times. “Calm down Lucinda, calm down, getting frustrated just makes things worse…” She coughed, clearing the smoke with her hands. “I know there's something about this place there's gotta be! But I'm not getting any readings! This place isn't normal, that much I can guarantee!” She grumbled, putting her wand away. “Stupid magic, what good is being a prodigy if I can't even detect what the hell is wrong with this place...Kim's acting weird, the cave was full of all sorts of bad energy, Garroth's acting kinda off too but I don't know if it's anything serious or if he's just being dumb again, I haven't been able to sleep at all these past few days and just! Ughhhh!” Lucinda smacked her head against the wall, groaning in frustration. “I just want to go to sleep….or have some kind of shut eye at the very least…guess I'll have to just bear with it.” Lucinda looked down at her wand, it was a really simple wand. “I almost regret bringing this wand, I wish I didn't leave my better wand at home. Then again I didn't anticipate this shit to happen at all, I wasn't about to bring an incredibly expensive wand to some run down shit hole.” Lucinda sighed, slumping down on her bed.

Zane was walking down the stairs, heading to kitchen.
“Man I can't wait until I'm able to leave this stupid lodge.” Zane muttered to himself. “I've just about had it with all of this cleaning crap. Why couldn't they send professionals out here. Cheapskates.”
As Zane walked by he noticed Kim, fast asleep on the couch.
“Hmm only if I had a marker would I scribble on her face. But Aph would probably scold me.” Zane thought aloud, turning his attention back to the kitchen. “Guess I'll make myself a cup of coffee while I'm down here.”
Zane went over to the kitchen and set some water to heat.
“Huh? Where the hell did my coffee cup go? I put it in the cabinet...so help me if one of these neanderthals is using my coffee cup-” “Looking for this?” A voice said from behind him. “GAH WHAT THE-Kim?!” Zane yelled, spooked by Kim's sudden appearance. “What are you doing standing behind me-and why do you have my coffee cup?!” “I just found it.” Kim said rather blatantly, holding the coffee cup out in front of herself. “You better have not used it or I swear I'll-” “So how's Garroth?” Kim interrupted Zane bluntly, putting the coffee cup down, not seeming to care about Zane's coffee cup dilemma. “Wh-What? How the hell would I know?” Zane snapped. “You're his brother. I thought he was acting a bit...strange lately, and I'd figured you'd know why. “So what? That's just Garroth acting fucking stupid as per usual. Trust me the guy is fine. He couldn't be helped to feel anything else than an irritating happiness even if his life depended on it.” “Hm...that's what..I thought you would say.” “What the hell is that supposed to mean?” “No one….would be able to tell if you died, your blood runs cold all the time….” “Tch, you think I care?” “No. I...do not…” Kim replied, walking over to the sink in the kitchen. “Yet neither do I.” She said, grabbing a knife from the rack. “You really don't...know a person..until their dead. From there on out...you can learn everything about them. Though….being dead...is very...very unpleasant... especially if you just couldn't pass on…” “Yeahh...I, uh, guess so…” Zane said, weirded out by Kim's behavior. “Is... saving someone's life worth it? Or...is it meaningless to save someone who's fated to die regardless?” Kim asked, looking to Zane. “What a stupid question to ask, of course saving another person's life is worth it, there's nothing more valuable than allowing someone to live a longer life, so that none of their friends and family, would have to mourn them.” Zane replied, annoyed at the question. “So why...do you...provoke evil and bad karma?” Kim asked looking Zane dead in the eye. “What..?” “You…really don't get it do you?….” “Kim, what the hell are you saying?”
Kim coughed and shook her head, she then stretched lightly and yawned.
“Oh hey the water is ready.” Kim pointed at the bubbling water. “Uh are going to explain to me what the hell you just said?” Zane hissed. “I just said the water was ready take a chill pill geez.” “What-no! What you said before that!” “I didn't say anything before that I just woke up...well not just this moment. You know when you wake up and feel hazy for a while?” “That doesn't...yeah okay. Never-fucking-mind.” Zane told Kim, leaving the kitchen. “Geez what's his problem?” Kim mumbled, as he walked out of the room. “Gosh these blackouts are getting worse and worse, I don't even remember how I got here! Well….at least I can make myself some coffee.” Kim sighed, worried about her current predicament. “We'll be gone soon, then I'll be able to get myself checked out... hopefully.”

Garroth stood at the entrance to the cave, he gazed upon the structure.
“So this...this is it…” He muttered, picking up a stone that resembled the one he had given Kim the other day from the floor. “It...it only takes one…”

Midnight myths part 3
Arthur Morgan x reader
Summary: After the Micah incident Arthur has gone extra protective and shares some of his deep secrets.
Warnings: light swearing.
Waking up to a cold bed wasn't very pleasing, you groaned pulling the covers closer only to snap your eyes open remembering what happened.
"Hey, easy" You glanced the the voice, Arthur he placed a hand on your shoulder handing you some coffee. Mumbling a thanks you drank it sighing quietly afterwards.
"You ok?" he questioned you scoffed.
"Oh yeah I'm stuck in the middle of werewolves hunting each other and I almost died I'm peachy" You huffed he gave a concerned look.
"Well, I can get you out of here after Micah leaves it isn't safe not after what we pulled" Arthur sighed running a hand over his head.
"I'm sorry" You whispered.
"Dont be it ain't your fault well a little for not leaving but still" You shook your head a small smile crossing your face.
"Arthur" You jumped at the new voice a dark man Indian by the looks of him peeking through the door.
"Charles?" Arthur questioned walking out with him. You sat against the wall waiting for his return to figure out what to do.
So great plan wait here till they attack, great just great, you wanted to smack the man but listened anyway. His associates were, Charles, John, a elderly man Hosea and young Lenny as Arthur called him, quite a gang of ruffians you says.
The night was young at you sat by the fire wishing you had some wool maybe or something to do.
"Hungry?" you jumped as Arthur walked in with some food.
"Thank you" You said taking it from him as he sat down beside you.
"Who are these men? they obviously know about well you" You said glancing to him, he let a sigh nodding his head.
"That old pack I mentioned the one we had slaughtered well we didnt all get slaughter but what I saw sure looked like it, I found Charles and John fighting down at Saint Denise trying to make money, Hoses was barely holding onto life when i found him and young Lenny well he found me, in a bar" He smiled snickering at the memory.
"So are they also?" he shook his head.
"John is got bit like an idiot and went missing for a year was 'to scared' to face us" Arthur rolled his eyes.
"But the others no, but they helped me when controlling it I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them" He said softly this was his family.
"Micah?" you questioned hating the name.
"Micah was apart of said pack, damn traitor led the hunters right to us and Dutch well he believed the son of a bitches lies and died like the rest only Micah the dick made it out somehow" He growled this man had gone through everything.
"He killed my loved ones, my family he needs to be put to rest I wont let him hurt no one any more especially you" You glanced at him the determined look on his face, you felt your stomach do loops as you shuffled closer placing a hand on his arm. He glanced to shocked by the sudden contact.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault I probably should've left but, I dont know something kept me here, you didnt scare me enough" You chuckled lightly.
"I was real pissed when I though you killed my chickens I would've shot you again" He chuckled shaking his head.
"Its ok I have a abnormal healing rate" Arthur said as you nodded finding yourself leaning into him ever so slightly.
"Guess I'm stuck here now, man the stories I could tell" You joked looking to him again.
"I think people would send you straight to the sheriff" You laughed Arthur's eyes kind as he looked to you.
"Your a good man Mr. Morgan even in these few months I know that" You said softly patting his arm gently.
"I ain't a good man Miss. Y/l/n" You smacked him as he frowned.
"Its Y/n and yes you are even with your rough edges" You commented staring at the fire.
"I ain't gonna argue with a woman" Arthur surrendered making you smirk in victory.
"Good, because you'll end up with another shot leg" He scoffed smiling looking to you.
"Your real brave Y/n I'll give you that, but maybe after this do get somewhere far away think one beast is enough" You frowned at the statement as he chuckled to himself, leave? did you really want to leave? after everything you wouldn't be able to just pack up and go like nothing happened, Arthur he- well he was different in the good sense.
"Well I best get some rest" You snapped out of your thoughts nodding.
"Yes as shall I, good night Mr. Morgan" You said.
"Arthur, and goodnight Miss" He walked out as you sighed heading to bed.
Running with wolves, a odd thing to be doing but you were safe the large golden furred beast running beside you as you laughed falling into the meadow. He stopped prancing around you like a puppy as you laughed some more pretending to tackle him, he licked your face as you made a disgusted noise laughing some more. You both settled down as you lent against his body his warmth seeping around you.
"I will always love you" You whispered as the wolf smiled leaning his head on your lap giving you a gentle nudge.
You woke up trying to figure out the dream you had it looked just like Arthur, but why did you say those words? you huffed getting out of bed and outside by the dying fire. You rolled your eyes seeing the men all asleep a few with drinks in their hands.
"WAKE UP" The all jumped awake as you smirked seeing them jump.
"Good morning gentlemen" Arthur groaned as did the others rubbing their faces.
"Breakfast?" You questioned starting it.
"Damn well be for waking me up" Arthur grumbled making you shoot him a glare.
"Alright, Alright sorry" he said his voice deep with sleep.
The day was rather boring you weren't aloud very far away from the house even though you knew it was unsafe you needed to get out.
"Arthur?" you called as he turned to you cocking his head.
"Hm?" he said as you approached.
"Can you take me somewhere please maybe the stream I cant be cooped up here, I know it's dangerous but I will shoot myself so help me" He sighed going to argue but the look on your face was begging.
"Fine but only for an hour" You fisted saying yes as he took you to the stream keeping on guard. You sighed happily taking off your shoes and socks.
"What are you doing?" Arthur questioned you smiled dipping your feet into the water.
"Cooling off" You said as he made an adorable confused face.
"Right well uh dont go to far" He said looking away awkwardly aw the man was a gentleman. You smirked splashing him with water making him flinch glancing to you seeing your playful smirk. You splashed him again with more water as he scoffed smiling.
"Well Miss I do believe you'll regret that" You smirked before yelping as he tackled you into the water. You came back up laughing as you pushed your hair back. You splashed him as he splashed back smiling as well.
"Ah ok I'm sorry! im sorry" You gave in as he smirked sending you one last splash.
"Aw didnt think you'd give in that easily" you had a small smirk before he knew it his head was dipped underwater you pressing him down before letting him up
"Why you little" You laughed running back to shore kicking some water ar him. He got out grabbing you around the waist as you tried to run laughter echoing in his ear.
"Let go" You laughed as he smirked to himself.
"Uh uh say your sorry" You wiggled in his hold but he was to strong.
"Alright I'm sorry" You smiled he nodded his grip loosening but not letting go.
"Arthur?" you questioned looking back at him. His eyes held something new something you've never seen.
"Why did you stay?" he whispered.
"Arthur, i-i dont know, you- ugh I dont know Gods truth" You said softly not really sure. He nodded his face in deep thought before someone came.
"There you are come on we've seen Micahs men" Arthur let you go nodding to John as he grabbed his hat nodding to you to follow. What just happened?

Halloween Party (A YOI Ficlet I Quickly Wrote)
Halloween Night- A Few Months After Yuri Moved to St. Petersburg
Yuuri fussed over his own costume, frowning. It didn’t look right, he was sure. He couldn’t tell why, though, he just knew something was off.
“Alright, let’s just go through the list: Cape? Check. Billowy white shirt? Check. Blood red vest? Check. Black pants? Check. Gloves? Check. Fangs? Oh wait!
Yuuri put in his fangs and smiled. Now he was finished! A vampire, simple and clean (hint hint). He sighed and groaned. He hadn’t even stepped out of his room, and he was tired of the party.
Yuuri and Victor has been invited to a skating party at the ice rink. The requirement was to dress up and skate around for at least a minute, but Yuuri just wanted to skate. Alone. Or, maybe just with Victor. Either way, just pure bliss.
Speaking of the silver-haired, silver-tongued Russian, Victor came up behind him and kissed his neck. “Such a sexy vampire, I can feel your hypnotic powers working.” Victor wrapped his arms around Yuuri’s waist and smiled, then slowly frowned. “... You’re not happy.”
“I dunno, the get-up seems... Too much? I just don’t feel comfortable.”
Victor nodded, then rested his head on Yuuri’s shoulder. “Well, we can’t go without costumes. Mila demanded.”
Yuuri chuckled. “I know. I’ll just suffer through the party, I guess.”
Victor sighed, trying to think of how to please Yuuri, when his lover began to shiver.
“Are you cold?” Victor asked.
“Just a bit. This is a cheap costume.”
Victor pulled away, grabbed his jacket, then paused. “... What if you didn’t have to be a vampire?”
“... What did you have in mind?”
———————————————————
Yuri Plitsetsky was not one for costumes. Which is probably why he only had two options: A really cool tiger onesie; or a different, just as cool tiger onesie.
“Beka, which one?” He held up the two onesies against his body, facing the camera. Currently, Yuri was only in his black boxer-briefs, shuffling around. Otabek seemed slightly amused by how the Russian tiger-fairy was running around with no clothes on.
“I think what you have on now is just fine.”
Yuri deadpanned and flipped the bird to his phone’s camera. “I’m serious! I’m already late!”
“Alright, alright. Uh... the one in your right hand.”
He held up the one in said right hand and Otabek gave him a thumbs up. He smiled and rushed off-camera, but still close by.
“I know for sure I’m not gonna like this party. Ugh, it’s gonna be so boring!”
“Why’s that?”
Yuri poked his head back into frame. “First off, you won’t be there to make it actually cool. Or, cooler, since I’m going.”
“Of course,” Otabek rolled his eyes.
“Secondly, that Japanese piggy and his old ass fiancé are going to be there, and they’re gonna be gross!”
“Oh?”
“Gonna kiss and hug and just be gross. And Mila is bringing some new hussy boyfriend with her to the party, and they’re gonna be just as bad at the piggy.”
Otabek nodded. “Yeah. I wish I could join you. Probably would be a lot of fun.”
“Yeah... Definitely would be better with you here.” He came back into frame fully and smiled. “How do I look?”
“Ferocious.”
“FUCK YEAH!” Yuri laughed, smiling widely.
“Alright, I have to get on my flight. I’ll talk to you after.”
“Of course you will.” He smiled and hung up, then sighed flopped onto the bed. Needless to be said, Yuri missed his best friend.
———————————————————
Finally, everyone was at the party. Yuri was skating away from Mila, who was dressed as a black cat. Georgia was dressed as an emo/scene person, although he was confused to be the only person who evaded Mila’s rule about costumes. Even Lila and Yakov were dressed up, as Frakestein’s Bride and Frakenstein’s monster (Wait, they match...).
Outside the doors, Yuuri and Victor were adjusting each other’s costume.
“You sure about this, Victor?”
“It’s a costume, and a sexy one at that.”
“I feel like this is cheating.”
“What, to dress up like your favorite celebrity?”
Yuuri was about to counter, but Victor shushed him and pulled him into the rink. “We’re here!”
All the skaters turned to look at them and jaws dropped.
Yuuri was dressed up at 5x Gold-Medalist Victor Nikiforov Of Russia, and Victor was dressed up as Silver-Medalist of the 2016 Grand Prix Finals Katsuki Yuuri of Japan.
(Technically, Mila should’ve counted this as cheating, but they looked too adorable)
Yuri was the first person to speak: “GROSS, YOU TWO ARE DRESSED AS EACH OTHER?!”
Mila smirked. “You two look adorable!” Then, she resumed chasing around Yuri.
As the party went on, the couple of the hour went around, talking to others. At some point, Yuuri started to get really into his role.
“Look at me, I’m Victor Nikiforov and I think that if I just open my arms for someone to hug me, I don’t actually mean I want a hug. Don’t get blood on my vest!” Yuuri started to act like the jacket he wore- Victor’s competition jacket- was the vest he wore when Yuuri smacked his face into a wall during a competition.
“Yuuri, that was one time-“
“Ooh, I’m Victor, and I decided to retire as a professional skater, but not really!” Yuuri casually flipped his short hair back, smirking.
“Really, bringing that up-“
“Look, I’m Victor! I decided to be jealous and assume that the guy I have a crush on is dating his dance teacher!” He put his hands on his hips and smiled at Victor.
“... Alright, we can play that game.”
“Huh?”
“Hi there, I’m Yuuri Katsuki and I got drunk at a GPF banquet and flirted with my future fiancé!” Victor smiled and draped himself over Yuuri, who was blushing madly now.
“Victor, I swear to god-“
“I’m Yuuri Katsuki and I decided to skate an Eros routine, but envisioned my eros as a porn cutlet bowl!” Victor posed sexily, smirking.
“Boi-“
“I’m Yuuri Katsuki and I got my boyfriend and I matching wedding rings. But, we’re not engaged, they’re just for ‘good luck’.”
Yuuri was about to retort, when Yuri called out, “SHUT UP, YOU TWO! YOU’RE BEING GROSSER THAN USUAL!”
The two lovers looked at each other and smiled, then rushed over to Yuri in the rink and started to tease him.
“LOOK AT ME, IM YURI PLITSETSKY AND IM SO EDGY! I WEAR DARK MAKEUP AND LISTEN TO HEAVY METAL!”
“IM YURI PLITSETSKY AND I PLANNED AN EXHIBITION SKATE THE NIGHT BEFORE I PERFORMED IT!”
“IM GOING TO KILL YOU TWO!” Yuri started to pull off his skate, prompting the other two to skate away.
———————————————————
Near the middle of the night, Yuri was against the rink walls, texting, when Mila came up.
“We got a new guest. Can you go see so it is?”
“Why should I if you already know-“
“Just go!” She pushed him towards the exit of the rink. He huffed and slowly skated to the exit, then saw who the new guest was.
In a large, teddy bear onesie and with a suitcase, Otabek stood at the doorway.
Two seconds later, Yuri rushed over and launched himself onto Otabek, smiling widely and screaming, “BEKA!”
(Later the next day, someone found a video someone had taken of Yuri tackling Otabek, and someone may have put it to the audio of “This bitch empty, YEET!”)

An Amusing Date ~ Tree Bros
Summary: Connor surprises Evan with a date to the Amusement Park. Pretty self explanatory. Fluff ensues.
WC: 1,989
Warnings: Anxiety, Swearing, Kissing.
Notes: So, this is my first DEH story. I should’ve finished this a while back but got caught up with life. Enjoy!
Extra: The ride used in this story is based off of Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point.
Masterlist
“Hey, Treeboy.”
Evan froze in the hallway and turned, smiling at his boyfriend. “Hey, Connor.”
Connor wrapped his arm around Evans shoulders. “We’re going out all day Saturday so cancel any shit you have planned.”
Evan sighed. “Really, Connor? I can’t exactly do that. I mean, it’s Friday and all and-”
“Then I’ll do it for you. I’m picking you up at eight tomorrow morning so be ready,” the long haired man said, walking to their next class.
The blue boy shook his head, smiling. “O-Okay. What do I need to wear?”
“Just your usual stuff,” Connor replied. He gave Evans shoulders a quick squeeze before slipping into his class.
Evan smiled and walked to his class, excited for his surprise. It wasn’t unusual for Connor to make sudden and surprising dates. But for a whole day? And so early? That was unusual. Evan decided not to think too hard about it as he sat next to Jared.
Jared straightened his glasses and smirked. “Well, someone looks happy. Did Connor blow you or something?”
Evan blushed profoundly and dug through his backpack. “Sh-shut up, Jared!” He stuttered.
Jared laughed and pulled out his notebook. “Hey, there’s nothing wrong with loving your boyfriend, but keep it in your pants while you’re at school!”
“J-J-Jared!” Evan buried his face in his hands. “I-I don’t…we don’t…Connor doesn’t…ugh!”
“Anyways, what are you so happy about? You just walked in here with a stupid ass grin,” Jared asked.
Evan scratched the back of his neck. “O-oh. C-Connors t-taking me somewhere tomorrow. B-but he won’t tell me where.”
Jared thought for a moment. “Alright. That’s kinda a shitty reason but whatever.”
Evan laughed and sat down. He imagined all the possibilities of what could happen tomorrow.
Except this one. This definitely wasn’t part of his imagination.
“C-Connor, what are we doing here?” Evan asked his boyfriend.
Said boy blew a bit of hair out of his face. “Going on a date? What else do you fucking think?” Connor grabbed Evans hand and walked to the front gates of the amusement park. He gave the man their tickets and headed inside.
Evan gulped as he watched a tall roller coaster make all kinds of dips and spins. “I-I-I’ve never, I mean, I haven’t…I can’t…I’ve never been to an amusement park.”
“I know that. That’s why I took you here,” Connor mumbled, looking everywhere except his boyfriends face.
Evan smiled and squeezed Connors hand, knowing he wasn’t a big fan of PDA. “Thanks, Con. That means a lot.”
Connor shrugged, bitting the inside of his cheek to hold back a smile. “Yeah. Whatever. Let’s get going,” he said pulling Evan towards the largest coaster.
The boy widened his eyes. “Whoa whoa! Connor, wait! Can we start someplace smaller?” Evan asked, looking around. He scooted closer to Connors side. “L-Like that one?” He pointed a shaking finger towards a spinning ride.
Connor looked over and sighed. “Alright. But you’re riding this one with me at some point today,” he said and walked over to the ride. They got on and sat in one of the seats. Connor wrapped his arm around Evans shoulders to provide comfort.
Evan gripped the handle bar as the ride started. But as it continued, a smile found its way onto his face. Evan loosened his grip on the bar and enjoyed the ride. Connor let a small smile appear on his face as he looked at Evans enjoyment.
When the ride ended, Evan ran a hand through his wind-blown hair. “That was awesome!”
Connor rolled his eyes, smiling slightly. “It was just a small one. Don’t get so fucking happy about it. There’s tons of better ones,” he said and put an arm around Evans waist. He tried to walk back over to the large ride, but stopped when Evan pulled his sweatshirt arm. “What the fuck, Evan?”
The blue boy pointed at a large squirrel stuffed animal above a rope ladder game. “Con, look! It’s a squirrel! And it’s blue!”
“Connor stop. You’re gonna get hurt and waste all your money.”
“IM NOT GONNA QUIT TILL I GET THAT DAMN SQUIRREL!”
“Con, please. You’re gonna break something.”
“I’M NOT GONNA FALL OUT OF A DAMN TREE!”
“P-please stop. You’re attracting attention.”
“THAT RODENT IS FUCKING LAUGHING AT ME! I WILL WIN IT AND SMACK THAT SHITTY GRIN OFF ITS STUPID ASS FACE!”
“Connor! There’s children here!”
“Con, I can’t believe you spent 40 dollars on a stuffed squirrel for me,” Evan laughed, pressing a small kiss to his boyfriends cheek.
Connor puffed out his cheeks and threaded his fingers through Evan’s as they walked away. “It’s whatever, okay? Don’t make a big fucking deal about it.”
Evan cuddled the squirrel and squeezed Connor’s hand. “Wh-where are we going, now?”
The dark boy walked to a small roller coaster. “You’re gonna experience your first hill.”
Evan gulped, pressing closer to Connor. “O-Okay.”
The rest of the day was filled with slow progressing to larger coasters, eating artery clogging food, hand holding, and cheek kisses. Finally, about an hour before the amusement park closed, the couple got in line for largest coaster in the park. It went up 400 feet and traveled at speeds of 120 miles per hour. Connor was beyond ready for the ride.
Evan, on the other hand…
“C-C-Connor, I-I-I’m still n-not too sure about th-this one,” the poor boy stuttered.
Connor faced him in line. “You’ll be fine, Ev. We’ve waited all day for this, anyways.”
Evan gulped and hugged his squirrel, Birch, while attempting deep breaths. His panic attack began to form when they were a half hour into the line.
Connor immediately felt Evan’s attack begin to start and grabbed his hand. He drew squares on the palm of his hand. “Hey, hey, Ev. It’s okay. Breathe in when I go up and down, out when I go left and right. Just like before,” he whispered and began to shrug his jacket off. As much as Connor was cold and shut out, when Evan was involved everything about his cool composer was pushed aside.
Especially when it came to his anxiety.
Evan did as they practiced and closed his eyes. Connor wrapped his jacket around his boyfriend’s shoulders and pushed him softly as the line moved forward. Evan calmed down about ten minutes later. He wrapped his arms around Connors waist as the tall boy ran his hand through Evan’s hair, glaring at the staring strangers around them.
“NEXT RIDERS, PLEASE ENTER!” the ride speakers yelled.
Connor looked down at Evan. “Ev, if you don’t want to ride this, we can leave now.”
“But waited in line for so long and-“
“I don’t give a fuck about how long we waited in line. You’re feeling shitty and if you don’t want to ride, we wont. That’s that.”
Evan gulped and looked at the ride. He took a deep breath. “Let’s ride it,” he whispered and walked up to their seats.
Connor nodded and put their extra things (along with Birch) in the bins. He got into the seat next to Evan and helped strap him in before doing his own. Connor reached over and held Evan’s hand, locking their fingers together.
Evan smiled and grasped Connor’s hand tightly. He shut his eyes as the car moved forward, preparing to be launched up the hill.
“Hey.”
Evan turned his head to look at Connor. “Yeah?”
“I really fucking love you, okay?”
The blue boy smiled brightly and blushed. “I love you too, Con.”
Connor smiled — actually smiled — and lifted their hands, pressing a small kiss to Evan’s knuckles.
“ARMS DOWN! HEAD BACK! AND HOLD ON!” the ride announced.
In the blink of an eye, the car shot up the hill with incredible speed. Evan screamed, feeling Connor’s fingers tighten around his. He could hear Connor’s happy laughter, therefore causing a smile to form on the blue boys lips, even if he was scared to death. They descended down the hill not even nine seconds later. Evan felt his stomach drop and shut his eyes, screaming even more. Then, in a matter of only seventeen seconds, the ride was over.
Evan slowly opened his eyes and looked over at Connor. The wind from the ride had blown his hair in thousands of different angles. His smile was wide from the adrenaline rush. He just looked so…amazing, Evan decided. If only he could print a picture of this Connor and post it on his wall.
Connor looked over at Evan. “How’d you do?”
The blue boy smiled, looking down at their locked hands. “I…I’m not sure.”
Then Connor laughed.
Like, really laughed. He threw his head back and shut his eyes, letting out his laugh. His nose and forehead crinkled. Connor laughed for a few seconds before looking back at Evan. “That’s the shittiest answer I’ve ever heard.”
Evan let out a soft laugh. When the worker unlocked their seats, Evan wrapped Connor’s jacket tighter around him before grabbing their stuff. Connor wrapped his arm around Evan’s shoulders and walked him out the exit and to the nearest bathroom.
“Con?” Evan questioned as the tall boy pushed him into the back stall, locking the door. Connor pulled their things out of Evan’s hands, throwing them carelessly onto the floor before pushing Evan against the bathroom wall and slamming his lips against the small boys.
Evan, though he was surprised by the sudden kiss, happily kissed back, wrapping his small arms around Connor’s neck. He ran a hand through the boys long locks. Connor moved his lips expertly against his boyfriends, pressing one hand to the wall beside his head and the other securely holding Evan’s waist.
After a couple moments, Connor forced their lips to separate. He panted softly and looked at Evan’s glazed eyes. “You didn’t want to ride that fucking coaster,” he whispered.
Evan licked his lips and shrugged. “I-I never said that.”
“Evan, if you didn’t want to ride the damn thing, why didn’t you fucking say something?”
The blue boy met Connor’s gaze. “Because we waited so long and-“
“Bullshit,” Connor stated.
Evan sighed. “Because you wanted to ride it. You did everything for me today and…and I just wanted to return the favor.”
Connor let the words sink in. “Damn,” he whispered and pecked Evan’s lips. “I love you.”
Evan smiled brightly. “I love you too, Con. For forever.”
Connor let out a chuckle. “For forever.”
“THE PARK WILL CLOSE IN FIVE MINUTES! IF YOU’RE NOT IN LINE, PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE EXIT GATES!” the speakers yelled from outside the bathroom.
“Oh, fuck off!” Connor sneered and pulled away from his boyfriend. The tall boy grabbed their things, handed Evan Birch, threw an arm around his waist, and exited the bathroom.
Evan smiled and leaned into his boyfriend’s side. He put Connor’s hood on his head as they walked through the large crowds headed to the exits. Once they had made it to the car, Evan took off the hood and smiled. “Thank you f-f-for today, Connor. I really had fun.”
Connor went back to his cold self, shrugging off the thanks. “Whatever. Just don’t go around blabbering about it. Especially to that Shithead.”
“Jared?”
“That name works too, I guess.”
Evan laughed and held Connors hand. He had fallen asleep on the way home, trusting Connor with his driving.
Connor smiled when they arrived at his house. He carried Evan up to his bed and then went back down to grab their things. Connor closed his door and slipped into his bed, pulling Evan close. He closed his eyes and fell asleep.
“So, Connor. How much did you spend on that dumb squirrel Evan keeps bragging about?”
“Fuck off, Shithead!”
