If we're bringing up old jokes can we bring back the villains+Galahad and Oedipus polycule? I still thing Cole/Galahad/Odin/Oedipus is a really fucking funny ship. Also why did we used to say villains and Galahad. Oedipus wasn't a villain in hnoc

oh huh that's true isn't it? A true villain polycule would be King Cole, Odin, Ashes, and.... The sun I guess, or the concept of racism? I don't think Gawain counts as the *villain* of hnoc. I don't think it has a real villain.

That aside. In the original thing. It would be funny for Galahad to just. Found Family these guys and then help them be better people and then they fall in love with him and he falls for them even tho his FAITH and it would be cute idk! Kinda silly! (Btw for new folks I think this was a joke like. In 2021? I think smooth mickey and one eyed jack were also involved tho)

It's like-

Oedipus started out trying to save and help the community he grew up in, only for the scandal orchestrated by the community he was born to turn the community he was raised in against him

Heracles wanted to help his family, his father and his children, only for his father to kill slaughter his children and blame it on him

Orpheus loved and was loved for his songs so much only for all of it to leave him when his true love and muse died and he couldnt handle it

Ariadne wanted to help herself and to escape the crimes of her parents only for it to further damn her when Theseus used her help and then rejected her

Ulysses was so worn down by the guilt of their crimes, of how they destroyed Illuim by turning all of them against each other and then Daedulus does the same thing to the Suits. They saw this and just killed everyone including themselves

so i've been listening to elysian fields way too much lately and thinking how fucked up that song is for the mechs to perform. like put death to the mechanisms out of your head (bc that basically didn't happen yet with udad) and listen.

they're immortal. they can't die. the song is all about the sweet release of death, and arguably a gentle one at that, cradled in the fields on a world were nature ceases, next to the grave of your deceased beloved. it's a beautiful song, and arguably, ulysses got their happy ending.

the mechanisms don't get that, though. most didn't even get the option of keeping mortality. they're stuck on the mortal plane, in flesh and metal, with no escape or release within reach.

their finale performance of this album is the bittersweet comfort of mortality and endings, something they're well aware they will never be granted.

Ashes set up Oedipus and his wife/mom after he solved the Sphinx disease thing. They knew who Oedipus was and who his mom was, they thought it was hilarious

modern UDAD headcanons

•i feel like ulysses works retail and the olympians and suits are just the really weird customers. the vault tree is a shrub in a pot in the break room given to him by penelope

•orpheus performs at goth and punk clubs as a single artist. people give him money because they feel bad.

•bonus narcissus. sometimes he shows up and does interpretive dance to whatever he sings

•heracles does boxing. i dont have much more to say here. maybe he does part time as a renfaire guy because have you been to a renfaire? bro would love being apart of the fake fights

•oedipus is just a normal doctor. he’s probably that guy in fics characters come to when they have been injured. orpheus and heracles are weirdly enough the two most common for him to see. orpheus falls off stage a weird amount of times and heracles literally fights for a living. he absolutely hates everyone.

•ariadne is in school for computer science and programming. she regularly does cybercrime for random good causes (god forbid women do anything)
