I can definitely personally vouch for the United American Catholic Church as very progressive!  They’ve been extremely welcoming to me (none gender left masc), and I’m presently discerning monastic life with their Franciscan order.  Fr Tony is both my parish priest and the presiding bishop of the UACC, and he’s absolutely wonderful.  If you’re interested in seeing what an Independent Catholic service is like, St Joan of Arc UACC streams all of its services through Facebook.
If you’re interested in learning more about the Independent Catholic movement as a whole, the podcast Sacramental Whine is excellent.  Transcripts are available as Kindle ebooks in four(?) volumes, some of which are on Kindle Unlimited.  It’s all interviews with leaders within the movement, many of whom speak on how they found the courage to leave their established/mainstream communities behind and start new communities that were better in line with their own spiritual values.  It’s how I found the courage to step outside of the Baptist + Pentecostal groups that make up the vast majority of churches where I live to find the UACC.
If you’re interested in doing more research on your own, another umbrella name is the Independent Sacramental Movement, which also includes churches whose spiritual lineage derives from Anglicanism/Episcopalianism and Orthodoxy.
Anon-OP, I wish you luck in your spiritual journey!  Feel free to DM me at any time if you have questions or would like more resources, I check Tumblr daily.
I just sent in an ask but I forgot I had another question! (the nature one)
When I said I was Catholic I meant Roman Catholic, but in my research for affirming churches and denominations I came across other groups/churches (I’m in America) that were technically Catholic but had slightly different names, and were very affirming. I was wondering if you had more information on these types of groups? I know at this point in my life I probably will not stay Roman Catholic but I know staying Catholic to an extent is important to my family.
Ok thanks again!
Whoops, forgot to post this one!
Yes, there are other Catholic groups beyond the Roman Catholic Church :D
There's the Liberal Catholic Church, the American Apostolic Old Catholic Church...I wish I had more information about them — followers?
____
Within Roman Catholicism, there are also many LGBTQ+ affirming groups, including:
DignityUSA works for respect and justice for people of all sexual orientations, genders, and gender identities—especially gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons—in the Catholic Church and the world through education, advocacy, and support. You can see if there’s a local chapter near you on the site! .
New Ways Ministry has been advocating for justice, equality, and reconciliation within the larger church and civil communities since the late 1970s. .
The Progressive Catholic Voice is an “independent and grassroots forum for reflection, dialogue, and the exchange of ideas within the Catholic community of Minnesota and beyond.” It’s not LGBT specific, but here’s a link to all the posts that have been categorized as LGBT. .
The Wild Reed is a blog by Michael J. Bayly, an Australian who resides in the US and who served as the executive coordinator of the Catholic Pastoral Committee on Sexual Minorities (CPCSM) from 2003-2015. This blog has been churning out posts since 2006(!), with the most recent post being about Lil Nas X coming out. Lots of older posts review books, talk about queer Saints, and more.
As well as supportive clergy and religious, including:
Father James Martin, a Catholic priest who advocates for LGBTQA+ folk
Brother Robert Lentz, a monk and iconographer who frequently features queer Saints in his icons

To all who care for human life:
the current situation in Ukraine requires immediate help as Ukrainian soldiers are fighting fiercely but they are greatly outnumbered.
The most efficient way is to help with drones.
We, the Ukrainian Center for Aerial Reconnaissance, need help with the following drones:
• 700 Mavic 3 Fly More Combo;
• 400 Autel EVO II Dual V2 Rugged Bundle (640T);
• 250 DJI Matrice 300 RTK
Or we need to collect $10 million to purchase them. This is just to cover the purchases for the month of June.
To facilitate the process in the US, we partnered with the UACC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in San Francisco. The donations made to them indicating "Aerial Reconnaissance" will go directly to purchase drones.
Here you can find more information on how drones save lives:

A Fresno woman is seeking monetary damages after a doctor removed her spleen instead of a diseased kidney, a mistake that left a pathologist “astonished,” according to a lawsuit.
The woman, Sarajane Parfitt, must undergo another operation to take out the kidney, and the removal of the spleen leaves her vulnerable to serious infections, according to medical experts. The lawsuit, filed in Fresno County Superior Court in June, contends the mistake has caused Parfitt “severe emotional distress.”
Paul Pimentel, Parfitt’s attorney, called the surgical error “insane ... I’ve never heard of this in this community.”
Named in the lawsuit are Dr. Narayana Ambati, Community Regional Medical Center and Urology Associates of Central California. Also mentioned is another doctor identified as Shahin Chandrasoma of Pasadena.
Efforts to reach Ambati were unsuccessful. Mike Ball, a partner in Fresno law firm McCormick, Barstow, responded to an inquiry by saying:
“The incident involving patient Parfitt was subject of a full (California Department of Public Health) investigation last summer. Dr Ambati was NOT involved in the nephrectomy. The surgeon actually was a locum tenens, Dr. Chandrasoma. He is not affiliated with UACC. Curiously, he is not named in the recent lawsuit, but he is mentioned in paragraphs 10 and 12. I do not know who represents Dr. Chandrasoma.”
A locum tenens is a visiting surgeon. Efforts to reach Chandrasoma on Friday were unsuccessful.
Pimentel also said it is possible that Ambati did not perform the surgery, but he hadn’t “had that confirmed.”
In response to the lawsuit, Community Regional Medical Center issued this statement:
“During this difficult time for patient Sarajane Parfitt and her family members, we offer our sympathy. Because this case is pending, we are unable to comment.”
Pimentel said he expected the case to be settled out of court.
“The doctor does not want this case to follow him,” Pimentel said.
“Ninety-nine percent of cases settle” out of court, he added. “The fact is, this is so egregious, they should settle.”
The Bee did not receive a reply Friday from the California Department of Public Health about any investigation of the operation.
The operation took place in June 2021. The mistake went undetected for several days until the kidney was examined after it was sent to a pathologist, according to court documents. The pathologist “was so astonished, he asked other pathologists to confirm his diagnoses.” Ultimately, all five pathologists agreed the organ submitted for examination and identified as a left kidney was in fact a spleen.
According to the Mayo Clinic, when a spleen is removed, other organs generally take over its functions, but along with the higher risk of serious infections, a patient without a spleen has increased difficulty recovering from an illness.
In a similar Orange County, California case in 2017, a Santa Ana urologist was barred from further kidney operations after removing a patient’s spleen instead of a kidney, according to The LAist. He was also required to have another urologist on hand whenever he performed other procedures.
The case is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 13.

“Foraging food in Appalachia owes much to the indigenous people of the region. Many of the foraged foods that have become central to Appalachian foodways were introduced to early settlers by indigenous people who had been using these foraged items as food and medicine for centuries. One notable example is sochan leaves (also called the green-headed coneflower) which have similar properties as echinacea. In the course of researching this article I discovered the work of Rebecca Beyer who calls herself an “Appalachian witch forager.” Beyer combines her academic background in plant and soil science with her Master’s Degree in Appalachian Studies to teach course on the ethnobiology of the Appalachian region. The use of the sochan leaves as folk medicine has its origin in the practices of the Cherokee people who passed this knowledge onto those who moved to the Appalachian region. People still forage for sochan to this day for the same purposes.”
