Now, i think the end of the road is gonna be like collective wish or something, it'd be weird for it to fr grant what everyone individually wants

For me, the end would be for alice and lilia to resurrect, since what they need is a coven. At least thats what this episode was about. Lilia also didnt read what teen was missing so it might not be his brother.

Teen saying Wanda is not his mom made so much sense considering he doesnt remember who he is, only the past three years with william's parents.

I do have to criticize ep5 again🥰 we have yet another trial that explained a character and helped her (even if resulted in death). Agatha was nothing more than cruelty, she had no personal growth and we just revised what we already knew by wandavision and even the start of the episode where lilia and rio just summarized salem. Also, seeing jen and lilia, especially jen, choose to continue the road to help agatha and teen right after betraying agatha and getting thrown off the road by teen. Its like ep5 never happened except we're keeping alice dead🙄 We get what less than a minute of them side eying him

Maybe they'll talk about it next episode, i hope (both the trial and down down the mud)

Overall, really good episode, i love my girls so much, lilia resurrection in 4k international holiday

a review: queer content i’ve consumed on the way to acceptance

1. How to get away with murder: the very first. the one that started it all. i reccommend, but also i watched this during covid when i was in HS and really all my brain took away was ‘if you no like that u gay --> you end up sad and depressed and given up and gloomy like annalise without eve’ so. 

2. Killing Eve: it was ok. obsessed at the time but looking back, i don’t even remember. probably cus: too much tv during the dark days (quarantine)

Edit: ok I came back to rewatch jt and I must say. My memory lied it was AMAZNG. it had everything I wanted; enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, a focus on the wlw ship… I just think Sandra Oh could’ve been written better/given more screen time it’s a little annoying how, once again, she was overshadowed by her white co-star.

3. The 100: clexa. obssessed always. will never lose the AO3 addiction for the rest of my life. love azgeda!clarke and general!clarke fics in particular. send them my way. also in my unhinged way, i’ve probably read everything there is on Ao3. or i will eventually.

Julie Pinson: No, it wasn't strange at all. I think if Lisa wasn't available to do the role, I think it was fated to be mine.

Julie Pinson: Rosalind Russell? I've never heard that one but I'm flattered!

at what age did u start your acting.

Julie Pinson: The first time I remember is when I was in sixth grade and I was in the play, Heidi. I played Fraulein Rottenmeyer, the bad lady. At the curtain call, my family stood up and clapped so loud and I loved the feeling so much that I knew it was what I wanted to do.

Julie Pinson: Definitely, Peter and Kristian. My storyline is with the two of them so obviously I spend most of my working time with them. They've helped fill me in on the show history and family and things like that. Basically, I found out that I'm related to everyone in Salem!

Were you a DOOL fan before landing the role of Billie, and if so, for how long?

Julie Pinson: Honestly, when I was growing up the only show that I watched was AMC. I hear the Boos coming, lol. I do remember being in a restaurant about 15 years ago and looking at the TV and seeing Kristian ice-skating. I remember thinking how beautiful she was.

Hello Julie! I think you're doing a great job as Billie. I don't miss Lisa at all! Do you think there BIllie will fall back into drugs because of her sadness over not having Bo or Georgia?

Julie Pinson: Anything's possible. I would hope that Billie would be stronger than that but finding out that my daughter is alive is a life changing experience. I'm not sure how much disappointment it would take for Billie to go over the edge again.

Julie Pinson: I think it's just as fun to play the bad girl, it's more fun. I think the fans like to have the bad girl on screen. If everyone was nice and wonderful it would be really boring.

I watched you on PC and Eve and Ian were one of my favorite couples. Have you kept in contact with Thorsten Kaye after you left PC?

Julie Pinson: Unfortunately I haven't. He's in NY doing AMC and we lost touch after my run on PC ended. But I loved acting opposite him.

Do you think finding your character's daughter will make her stronger or more dependent?

Julie Pinson: Stronger. I think it would give her something to live for and it would give her life meaning. I think it will strive to make her a better person.

Who would you like to have more scenes with or work with more from the show??

Julie Pinson: I like working with Lauren (Kate). I think it might be fun for the two of them to partner up and try and wreak havoc. I would also love to Thaao Penghlis (Tony). I don't know what kind of story we could have but I would love to work opposite him. For storyline purposes I think it would be cool if Billie tried to infiltrate the DiMeras and take Tony down.

Julie Pinson: Working with Jon Lindstrom and Kin Shriner and what they taught me.

I was a huge Chris and Eve fan when you were on Port Charles and so felt that Eve died long before her storyline was over. I think you're doing an awesome job on Days as Billie and was so glad to see you back. In your opinion, what is the most challenging part of being in the daytime world?

Julie Pinson: I think the most challenging part is taking the stories that the writers come up with and making them work because sometimes the stories are really out there and we have to make the audience believe that it's really happening.

Hey Julie.. I remember reading once that you collect dolls. Do you still?

Julie Pinson: Yes, absolutely. I collect Barbies! I haven't bought any new ones in a couple of years. I got to the point where I thought I had enough. I just got a new Barbie catalogue so I might look at it after the chat!

All the smiles and smirks that you do behind Hope's back, is that a touch that you add on your own or are you directed to do so?

Julie Pinson: I add it on my own. Do you hate it or love it? You have to bring something of your own to the character and the history that I understand Hope and Billie have warrant the smirks.

Loved your scenes with Bryan Dattilo (Lucas). Great brother and sister chemisty. Will there be more of that in the future?

Julie Pinson: I hope so! I haven't seen any scripts yet within the next few weeks where we're together but I love hanging out with Bryan.

Hi Julie! I admire your acting on the show and loved you on PC as well. Who are your personal heros?

Julie Pinson: That's a good question. Well, I'd say one of my personal heroes is my best friend Sherry who has managed to raise her daughter (my goddaughter) by herself and hold a full time job. Single parents are amazing to me. My parents, as well.

Do you still keep in touch with any of your Port Charles costars?

Julie Pinson: Jon Linstrom is one of my best friends. Ion Overman and I still talk.

I love your hair. Can you give me some details on the type of cut it is and what you do to get it to look so great? i.e., products, styling etc.

Julie Pinson: It's pretty much a razor cut. I use BedHead products - the Movie Star line. I also use KMS Configur and then I turn my head upside down and blow it dry.

Has it been hard playing Billlie and trying to come between Bo and Hope?

Julie Pinson: No, it's not hard because Billie has a reason for everything that she does. At this point, she's not trying to come between Bo and Hope on purpose. She's really not. You may snicker, but she really isn't. lol.

Julie, do you think that it would be a better story for Billie to get over Bo and become a mother to Georgia? I know you are new to the show, but for long time viewers, this Billie coming between Bope story is old. It's unbelievable that after 16 years we are led to believe Billie has not moved on. Billie is better than that. I think Bope belong together. Billie needs a new man, and a new story. Do you agree?

Julie Pinson: I think that Billie deserves a chance at true love. And I'll leave it up to the writers to tell me who they think that is.

What adivice would you give to someone who might be considering going into acting?

Julie Pinson: Love it more than anything in the world. Have a tough exterior because you'll have to get used to rejection. But it only takes one yes to make it to the top.

Are you friends with any of the cast members outside of work?

Julie Pinson: Brody (Patrick) and I hang out together.

Since you and Bryan are brother and sister I hope they make the big sister come out and protect him from his lying mom. Billie is smart enough to see thru Kates lies, do you think that might happen?

Julie Pinson: I think the truth is going to come out that Kate set Sami out and Billie will be very upset with her mother. I think right now Billie is giving her the benefit of the doubt.

I loved you as Eve. You and Nolan North had amazing chemistry as Chris and Eve. A lot of fans felt like the story ended way too soon for those two characters. Would you have liked to have seen Chris and Eve get together back in the day?

Julie Pinson: Most definitely, yes. I always thought that Chris and Eve would have made a great super couple. We would have taken over PC as the best super couple. I loved working with Nolan, by the way.

Julie Pinson: We're both strong and we both have a sense of humor. I've tried to infuse a little bit of humor into her because I think that I'm funny. Lol. We're independent women.

Who's your favorite actor/actress(not from Days, of course!)?

Julie Pinson: My favorite actor is Robert Redford. My favorite actress would take too long to decide. Elizabeth Taylor is my all-time favorite movie star but I don't really have a favorite actress right now.

Have you heard that Billy Warlock is returning to Days? Weren't the two of you engaged? Are you looking forward to working with him?

Julie Pinson: I've heard that Billy is coming back and I'm definitely looking forward to working with him. We have always remained friends.

Julie Pinson: I wouldn't want to play any other character. I love playing Billie.

I've particularily enjoyed the flashback scenes with Peter! How did you enjoy shooting those, especially with the long hair?

Julie Pinson: Those were fun. It was nice having long hair again. I enjoyed playing those flashback scenes because Bo is actually in love with Billie!

Julie Pinson: My favorite thing about working at DAYS is that from the minute I stepped on that stage I have felt nothing but warmth and welcome from everyone - the cast and the crew. I have never had that experience working in the industry before. That's the truth!

⠀⠀⠀SHE'S⠀⠀ lost track of how long she's been here. More accurately, she's long lost the presence of mind to try and track it. Long enough for her knees to lock and need to sit down — but with the weight that continued to dig into her chest, that could be anywhere from minutes to hours. At first, she'd diligently sought out the fragments of light that could be found from ward to ward, poking around long enough only to determine whether or not it was her own before accepting it or moving on. She moved without really thinking much about it, because that's what she should do — and all the while, the uncertainty gnawed a deeper and deeper hole in her gut.

⠀⠀⠀THERE ONCE WAS A GIRL IN A TOWER. . . ⠀⠀ 

⠀⠀⠀Even with just a glance, even with her appearance drastically different, Ruby recognized that girl immediately. The weight that always sat on her shoulders began to bear down, but she diligently collected the ball of light. She waited patiently for the memory to play out, for the anxiety and helplessness that bit at her heels to gain some needed context. She moved on to the next, but the gears in her head kept turning. Did she really need the context ? The feelings without a source were disconcerting, but feelings eventually went away, right ?

⠀⠀⠀All except the heaviness. That never went away.

⠀⠀⠀DO NOT FALL.⠀⠀ 

⠀⠀⠀The second memory had been a whole Ward away, which just felt really unnecessary. That's a whole lot of time to try and convince herself that she really, really wanted to find it — and it made the knee-jerk disappointment of stumbling across it all the more potent. She could feel the wind without a source bracing against her body as if trying to stop her fall, remember the way it felt when Blake's warmth was no longer there. She's never felt a fear as raw and potent as when Yang went over the edge, or when Gambol Shroud missed its mark. This instinctual dread of Neo's shadow made all the more sense now, and she felt like kicking herself for having lost that specific piece to the puzzle. The weight finally stopped grinding against the very bones of her shoulders, but slid carelessly down to her chest — where now, in the present moment, it languished.

⠀⠀⠀SAL . . . U . . . TATIONS !⠀⠀ 

⠀⠀⠀She'd practically jumped away from the harmless ball of light, as if the shock of it were a pure electric jolt. For some reason... This is the memory that plagues her the most. This is the one that wraps an uncaring fist around her heart, feeling it beat frantically between the fingers. Maybe it isn't even entirely the memory itself, but the knowledge that it is likely the last she needs to recover. When did she stop doing things because she felt a pure want to, because her heart guided her to — and when did she start doing what she felt she was expected to do ? Ruby knows how this place works. It's a completely separate existence from Remnant, from Cinder... from Salem. They may come here, sure — and that would be a crisis for everyone.

⠀⠀⠀But... when — if... she went back to Remnant... If she went back, the memories would flood back anyway. Right ? So... Is there really a need to bother ? Off principle, sure, but... to forget some of this is almost like setting down an entire part of herself. Feelings eventually went away... and eventually, if she had no need to feel heavy, the heaviness could ebb away too. She could get used to Spirale again, carve out the parts of herself she didn't like — and this could just be a pretty good jump-start. She could be anyone she wanted, in theory... And would that really be so bad ? … She still doesn't know.

What. The. Fuck.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Motherland: Fort Salem is a masterpiece! Every episode just keeps getting better and better!! Kudos to the writers, seriously. They really didn’t spare any brains going into this. Every detail is just like a puzzle piece meshing in so smoothly, to create a perfect picture.

Episode 9, bloody hell… I was literally at the edge of my seat not even a quarter of the way into it.

Warning: Spoilers! And major rambling ahead!

Let’s start with Alder.

Since she “puppet-ed” the President, I never trusted her, but when she stepped down, I felt for her. She let the Spree be the enemy and carried that burden of knowing that lives are lost because of her actions, so that civilians and witches could “try” and live harmoniously. Obviously, that was a fail, but the intent was there. She lost so much, and she’s seen so much pain. That song of grief… imagine how much pain she had to have had for it to actually trigger the birth of the mycelium.

The reveal about the mycelium being a collective being of all dead witches…kinda like an underworld of sorts… just wow 🤯

Scylla did say that the mushroom was like the king of plants in the underworld. That was a great foreshadowing from Season 1 that we didn’t even realise until this episode.

But damn! Of all the witches out there, all the dead witches collectively chose our little rebel Raelle. It makes sense now how the mycelium is so powerful. It must be so overwhelming, holding the powers of all dead witches. And kudos for Raelle finally accepting what was entrusted her. She’s gone full circle now, from not even wanting anything to do with the army and kind of resenting being chosen by the mycelium, to now having a purpose and taking it to heart. She now knows the weight of the responsibility given to her. It’s not just about her, she realises that. There was a great war coming.

This scene was so aesthetically pleasing, by the way. The photographer in me is just to satisfied with this shot.

Anyway, moving on… I’m glad Abigail is finally able to sway her mother’s decisions for her. She finally moved on from being the daughter always eager to please and follow rules, and to a soldier with purpose. She’s seeing the bigger picture now and not just chasing for glory. I love the character development.

And speaking of character development, Tally has got to be the most developed character this season.

She went from a pawn to a straight up queen in a chess game. She was a girl with high hopes for the future, a girl who was too nice. She saw the goodness in people, and so everyone was quick to dismiss her, to think her too tame. Now, she’s THE soldier who managed to change the whole game, with her chase for the truth. She stood up for what she’s always believed in and she’s just put herself on a pedestal for generations to be inspired by. I’m not gonna be surprised if she becomes the General by the end of the show.

Then, there’s the Sekhmet coven. I love this group, especially with how they all backed each other. This was an iconic shot, too.

And then, of course there’s Raylla.

Raelle the soldier and Scylla the army wife at home. They are so freakin’ flirty, I love and hate it at the same time, lol. I love that they’re sweet on each other, I missed them so much… but I kinda lowkey wanted a slower burn. But I guess, with chemistry like theirs, it wasn’t too hard to fall back to old habits. They really are the fastest among all wlw ships. From strangers to lovers to breaking up to making up to meeting the parental and u-hauling with a kid and now having LDR, lol. Kinda disappointed that Tiffany was sent off with a dodger family.

Raylla and being sexy weird. Birds and mushroom are their thing. In season 1, we have Scylla with death cap mushrooms and Raelle with her bowerbird combat charm. Now in season 2, we’ve got it flipped. Raelle is now connected to the biggest mushroom in the whole world probably, and now Scylla bonded with a bird. These two, seriously…. Everything they do is like an extension to the other.

And speaking of birds, Scylla is not a witch to be messed with, really. She has so much power on her own, and so brilliant that she managed to learn Nicte’s work involving animals. At least, I think she just learned that after the capturing of Nicte and seeing how she worked with bats. And even so, she did it with so much ease with one bird. Imagine what she could do with more birds.

Last side note, btw. I still don’t like that Vice President. He seems so dodgy. At first, I find the scene with Anacostia and the bodyguard so irrelevant, but then the bodyguard said he’s off for the weekend. I feel like there’s more to that information.

But I’ve been rambling for more than an hour now. There’s still so much to say, but alas, this post is too long now. Lol. I’m so so so excited for the last episode of season 2. I’ve seen some sneak peeks and they better not kill off Scylla or any of our favourite trio, I swear I’ll riot.

GOD THIS RUBY TEA SCENE AND HOW CHARACTERS REACT IN THIS SCENE AND JUST IN GENERAL HOW FANS TRY TO TWIST THIS SCENE OUT ABOUT “oh they all in shock\yang is actually have a panic attack” its like JUST SAY ITS A BAD REACTION SCENE JUST SAY IT PLZ ONE BAD SCENE ABOUT NEW SEASON WILL NOT DESTROY U OR SOMEONE.

Im sorry i just...if we talk about this moment and about Yang -  i saw also with this opinion there was posts-twitts about the fact that Yang is not that reaction person so that why we dont get her screaming about Ruby and she just quietly have a panic attack. This is the reason why we dont have emotion Yang and i just like...did we watch the same series? You telling me that the person, who was screaming and jump to fight with Adam in vol3, who even when she was shaking (and at that moment we still have some stuff going on about ptsd and anxiety that Yang was having), still was able to talk and even scream at Raven in vol5, or if you want something “fresh” - vol8 when Yang literally attack Salem and scream at her about her mother, got really emotions when Ruby tell that “that what happen to mom” after they find out who is The Hound was, or how she scream “RUBY” when Neo was trying to sneak-attack her and “protect Ruby from attack”.

She not only pretty emotion character, she CAN react on some situations and she not the one who hide that much, at least in pretty critical situations, but also pretty “fast reaction one”, no matter if this was “mistake” (vol3 adam attack) or for sake of saving someone (vol8).

But this post is not about this so sorry about that much offtopic.

If we talking about “Yang having trauma reaction” or “Yang having panic attack” then its never was showing...that great? Again, i was thinking that Yang was pretty emotion character when its come to extrem situations. I saw SO MANY posts about Yang be “the one who hide her true emotions or dont react that much” and i just...again do i miss something? Do i miss some scenes? Because the only scenes that i can remember her being “i not showing my emotions” was scene in vol8, when she cry while turning around Ruby and hiding her face, and maybe her arc in vo4 (but im not sure is this count?). But okay lets say that she have panic attack in this specific scene.

Shot 1 - I maybe can believe that she have some sorta panis attack in this scene specifically, because we can see her heavy breathing, eyes fixated on place, where Ruby drank a tea, her trying to not falling and holding Blake pretty tightly (i personally wish she was on the knees because if you dont want to show her screaming because what she saw - show at least that she so in stress after what she saw that she cant hold herself. (also offtopic but why Blake have expressions like this? She look look more like she just surprise. Yeah we can see that she have sad eyebrows expressions, but its not helping that much)

Shot 2 -She standing more strongly, arm on the heart (wish the whole hand was open, like she want to hold her breath. I do stuff like this or hold my heck when i have panic attack, because i feel like i cant breath, but this is personal nitpicking.), start to look slowly around with expressions is kinda “what just happened”, still have heavy breathing.

Shot 3 - I dont like this shot personally, because its look like Yang and Blake distract by the fact that mansion is falling (there is also this one strange shot with Weiss looking like she trying to catch show but with stressful expressions and im not sure what its trying to portrait). No more indication that she have heavy breathing.

Shot 4-5 - Looking at CC like the rest in this one shot. Probably progress already what is going on and what CC doing it? Arm is still on heart and Blake still trying to hold her, even when CC attack them (with extra stuff like Blake protection Yang with her whole body, which i kinda like but at the same time hate because this is only the shot that most of the people was talking about because OMG BLAKE PROTECT HER-)

Shot 6-7 - She pretty much progress what just happens with her sister? Like she now angry at the CC and looking only at them, manage to stand up by her own and help Blake to stand up again and now she mostly hold her, not Blake helping her.

(small moment because its will sound like i hate people who animate this scene - its more about that director want to the scenes look like this and “dont change shit” or opposite - there was so small around of control how those scenes need to look so storyboard artist and animators who animate this whole “after ruby” scenes did what even they can do in this scene with small amount of details they have? + again ME TALKING ABOUT LEAKS SO YOU CAN SKIP IT IF YOU WANT, i read in leaks that this whole tea party scene was change a lot and even “why Clover and Lionheart its there” was because “animators just put them there because the scene was already in progress”, so im not going to be surprise if the reaction moments was different or was fitting in old script, but they dont change anything after that and this is why this all look so strange?)

And this whole situation about “Yang having panic attack” do not help to make this situation better because in the next episode she pretty easily sit on Juniper without anybody help (like she sit right at the very end of Juniper?), nobody have to do a whole “cmon we need to go Yang you cant just stay there we need to go to the tree” or something like this and the next episode is mostly about Jaune and his reaction on Paper Pleasers ascention. After seeing Ruby wooden body she maybe trying to “get her out” and have some stressful reaction about this, but this is happens pretty later in this episode and even that, stuff like fake Ruby, that NeoCat made, dos not affect her that much.

And i dont ask for too much or ask for, like some people call, “anime overreaction about everything” (and again, we still have a moment from vol3 when we HAVE reaction like this and the same people dont have a problem with it) i just ask for some consistency. If Yang is overreaction person, then give her time to react about this situation. If Yang is having panic attack about this situations, dont progress her moment that fast (if someone comes and tells me that it TURNS OUT she can control her panic attack so easily, even after such a "unique" situation and its never just show up until now - i will lost my shits fg;dkjbulpfihgn). Because rn she “reaction person”, but she will not react on this situation even as “she cant she have panic attack!” and this whole situation dont help me to not agree with people who say that “if there was Blake who drank the tea, Yang would have reacted much more actively to this.”. And this whole stuff dont help when in the last volumes she was able to act in stressful death situations but it this chapter specifically she dont act that much and the worst of all, 3 other characters is also have the same “we in shock” reaction, when both antagonists was able to react more emotion about Ruby actions.

(Or fucking make JWBY appears in the mansion when Ruby already start to drink the tea, its at least something)

So earlier I wrote about how RWBY leans too much on the inherent belief that women are weak and emotional but I forgot to add something that specifically bothers me

And it's when RWBY will literally be standing still and the fans gaslight themselves into believing they're having a panic attack or a trauma response. The thing about animation, or any form of visual media, is that there is nothing stopping it from conveying what's going through a character's head. Take this for example,

Jane Lynch(I haven't seen Wreck-It Ralph I'm sorry) hears something that sets off a post-traumatic response and the scene makes sure you understand why. The RWBY version of this scene wouldn't have included the flashback and would've left most of the audience confused.

And to bring this to something closer to RWBY's audience, Korra had an entire arc about recovering from her trauma in the final season. In that arc we knew what was happening with her, why it was happening, and what it was gonna take for Korra to heal. If RWBY really have all this trauma like the fans say they do then why isn't it being addressed and why aren't the girls healing?

Cinder had been born in a cage.

The orphanage walls had melted into the stronghold of the Glss unicorn.

And than formed into Salem’s place.

All she had ever known was walls.

Now there was no lies to hide behind.

Cinder hugged her knees, looking out onto the setting sun, the flames across the sky. She gave it one long look, knowing it would be the last time she would ever see such life.

She had fooled herself into thinking she was free.

Trying to leave it was her mistake.

Cinder didn’t remember when she came up here, when she had made up her mind…or when Qorbyn had found her.

Her skin still marked with the burns Cinder had given her. And yet the girl thought she was worth saving.

Why?

"Some people don't deserve forgiveness, some people deserve your hatred and cruelty. Some people are monsters and that doesn't change. I'm a monster, I've marked you, I tried to kill your and I’ve killed countless others.”

Cinder knew what she was, she had killed her adopted family, had killed Rhodes when she was just a child and death had followed her ever since.

The cries of the townspeople could not be heard over the sound of their synchronized heartbeats and declining breaths.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Flames of red and orange engulfed the couple’s forms. The man was terrified, not for himself but for his significant other. He silently prayed to the Lord to set them free; to guide them to the gates of paradise, where they can finally live peacefully together at last. “May we meet again in another life, my beloved,” his lover proposed with one final breath, letting the fiery madness swallow them whole. Only the wind could carry the last words of this bittersweet love story.

Felix jolted in cold sweat, the speed of which he sat up nearly gave him whiplash. He looked around to find he was just in the comfort of his bedroom. “Again?” he groaned as he hunched over, rubbing his face. Ever since he turned 18, he’s been having the same damned dream almost every night, leaving him with a heavy heart the next morning. It was driving him mad! All he wanted was for it to stop; though deep down, he also didn’t want to. He knew his conscience was trying to tell him something, rather, it was as if he needed to find someone. He flipped his phone over to read the time. ‘8:56am’ He sighed, getting up for the day.

“Do you believe in second chances?”

Everybody turned to Jisung in question, who was giving the 3 boys the purest look they have ever seen. “Like, if they did something bad?” Seungmin replied, “Yeah, I guess but it really depends on how grave the situation is.”

“No! No! Like, second lives and stuff like that!”

“Reincarnation?”

“Yeah! That’s the word,” Jisung smiled. Felix looked at him in interest, feeling antsy for some odd reason.

“Why?” Seungmin asked. “Is this from another one of those stories you read in that silly book?”

“Hey! Minho gave me that book! Respect it!”

Seungmin sighed as the other two boys laughed. “Hey, we should just be happy that he can even read, Seungmin,” Hyunjin laughed, earning a punch from Jisung.

“Come on, it’s not silly! I think it’s really cool,” Jisung pouted, everyone ignoring Hyunjin’s cries of help. “Hyunjin, You read it and thought it was cool too!”

Hyunjin stopped and scoffed, “Yeah, but it sounds a little...unrealistic? I think it is a cool concept but it can just never be true.”

“Agreed,” Seungmin chimed in. “Sounds too far fetched. You die? You die. That’s the end of it. No such thing as ‘second lives’.”

“Boohoo, you guys are such downers. Hope you guys stay dead when you die then,” Jisung jokes. “What about you, Lix? You never said anything.” The boys turned to the uncharacteristically quiet boy.

Felix hummed. “I think…” he draws out, “that it could happen? To me, it doesn’t sound that impossible”

“See! Felix is with me!” the chubby cheeked boy cheered. “He has a vision unlike you haters.”

Seungmin rolled his eyes sassily. “Okay, then what did the book say? Does it explain why reincarnation is a thing?”

“Yup! It said that reincarnation often happens when someone dies a tragic death or lived a miserable life. They are granted a second chance of one to make amends for their hardships, so that they can finally live the happy lives they deserve! And sometimes, people will still have memories from their past life.”

“Fake,” Hyunjin faux coughed. Jisung turns to him with a glare.

“Shut up. Don’t act as if you didn’t cry when you read the story.”

“Hey!” The two boys argued while Seungmin went on his phone to ignore the commotion. Meanwhile, Felix was lost in thought. So it is true...I was reincarnated. Those dreams really were memories of my past self! This is a sign!

“Hm,” Seungmin said to no one particularly, “I wonder when will anyone bring up that fact that Minho gave Jisung a literal children’s book?”

The boys left Hyunjin’s house after 5 hours. It was already the afternoon, and they were starving, seeing how they spent the whole time playing video games. Instead of ordering food, Seungmin suggested they go out to physically buy the food, much to Jisung and Hyunjin’s chagrin. Jisung and Hyunjin went to buy pizza, Seungmin was in charge with buying them food that’ll actually fill their stomachs, and Felix went to buy the drinks and desserts. Hyunjin went on about “eating like kings!” or something like that.

Felix was lining up in the ice cream shop, already carrying the bag of sodas for them. He was waiting for his turn when he heard a sweet voice from the line beside him; a voice that he has vaguely heard before. “Hello! Can I have-”

He turned his head to find the most breathtaking person he has ever seen. Felix felt his heart racing. It was as if his world stopped. Is that-? What’s happening? Is this it? he gulped. “Hello sir? Sir!”

He immediately snapped out of it, remembering he’s still in line. He looks back at the line to find that he’s next. “I am so sorry!” he bowed, quickly moving to the counter to place his order. Felix hastily spoke with the employee in hopes of speaking to the mystery beauty. He turned around to see his self-proclaimed soulmate already walking out the door. He cursed, ready to run out the door, when he heard his name being called. Felix hissed, snatching the bag of ice cream from the employee, with a quick ‘thank you’.

He sprinted out of the shop and into the direction he saw them leave. Either he ran that fast, or his soulmate was slow, he was able to catch up to them. “W-Wait!” he called out, breathlessly. His heart wanted to burst when he saw their form up close; when he saw you up close.

“Yes? May I help you?” you responded with a gentle smile. Felix had this strange urge to kiss your lips, fighting hard against it since you two are still technically strangers in this life.

“U-uhm,” he cleared his throat, “I’m sorry but- I think I’ve seen you in my dreams.”

Your eyes widened, caught off guard. Felix only now realized his blunder. “Crap- I’m sorry that was-”

He was cut off by the sound of your laughter, causing his face to burn even more. “Isn’t that a little cliché?” you giggled. Felix bit his lower lip in humiliation, looking down to the cement under his shoes. He wanted to run away. The situation was too embarrassing for him to handle. He felt your soft hands bring his face up.

“Hey hey, no need to be embarrassed. Don’t worry about it,” you smiled, “my beloved.”

Felix was stunned. Holy sh- I was right! It is you! he cheered mentally. He smiled as wide as he could, dropping his bags and bringing you into his arms. The two of you laughed in relief, happy that the two of you were together at last. You buried your face into his shoulder.

“I’ve missed you, Felix.”

“I’ve missed you too, Y/n,” he sighed, kissing the top of your head.

You looked up with tears in your eyes. You whispered, “I told you we shall meet again in our next life...my beloved.”

I watched this week’s Motherland: Fort Salem and Taylor Hickerson’s version of Book of Love hit me.  https://youtu.be/JcDAYyl9Y2Q. 

I’ve been in a low headspace and this song sparked something. This is a R-O-U-G-H draft. It’s in the same verse of It’s Just So Simple and it’s not a sequel. This will be edited and filled out further later. NOTE: I hear Bucky’s singing voice as a softer - more timid Eliot Spencer/Christian Kane voice.

Even in the afternoon, it was sticky out, the heat was an affront to his very being. He despised the cold for too many reasons. But damn. This heat was pushing all around him. 

There was the barely there breath of the kitchen oscillating fan that Ms. Grace kept on through the summer, throughout her cooking lessons with Bucky. Apparently, his knife skills were worth something - sometimes. 

Then there was the prize, the low hum of the window AC unit in her living room; it was so reminiscent of Sam’s nephews’ in-home COVID school room.The perspiring sweet tea that was more sweet and ice than tea and lemon was placed in front of his new friend, Ms. Grace. 

This was it.

Another peaceful day. Uneventful, boring even…

So many months and weeks. So many uneventful and boring weeks and months.  And he was safe. Bucky was safe.

Louisiana became home to this Brooklyn boy. It fit him - he was allowed to fit into this strip of land, sea and wood. The docks, the people, the weeping willows drifting leisurely.

That’s how it started a week prior. Out on the veranda with Ms. Grace’s twin grandchildren she fostered along the way, Denise and Denziel murmured, humming along to the chords of their guitars. 

Bucky smirked at the two while old memories (good old memories) flooded him with panging joy and a buzz through all limbs. 

And that’s what it was like before Bucky got the courage to approach the siblings during their creative session. 

The fan on it’s worn extension cord length stirred enough of a breeze that enticed everyone inside, pushing the AC unit air as best it could. 

“Any new songs, cuz?”  Another day. Another query. 

Could Bucky be ready?

After eating Ms. Grace’s lunch of Gullah cuisine (Bucky added this term to his new notebook. The notebook Steve started for this whole new world), Bucky smiled. Her family allowed him to learn and be accepted into their haphazard family; Bucky felt embraced. 

“Boy, just because we like you don’t mean you get to do whatever.”

“Ms. Grace, if I do whatever, without your permission, you can whip me good and hard.”

“Deal.”

Dishes cleaned and sorted, Bucky stood in the entryway of the living room. “What you got?”

Bucky entered the small, bright room, sitting across from the two young adults. He appreciated these two. These three…

Everyone. 

He appreciated everyone and he would never be able to fully convey what this town means to him. These people were the world to him. That one person is the world to him.

Denise smirked. “You listened to everything we sent.”

“Of course.” And some songs  were vulgar beyond recompense but he wouldn’t say anything about that. 

“And?” they said in unison.

Without missing a beat, Bucky went to his rucksack, pulling out notebooks, scattering them across the wood floor. 

The room went silent.

Denise smiled. “You think you can do this?”

Bucky’s fingers brushed against worn bounds, stark book fronts, and wrinkled leather.  These were his life. This was it. This was everything laid out. Scrawled in confusion, paper taunt with cheap yet faded ink. Marred with blood and deception 

Tilting his head up, Bucky responded,  “Yes.”

The party had wound down as few folks meandered around the bonfire. 

Warm, creaking and crickets.

Hypnotic and still. So very still. 

Sam was there.

Of course he was.

Sam was as constant as those notebooks. He was…

Bucky watched as Denziel chatted with others and Denise strummed on her guitar. 

The fire hues danced and melted. 

Orange, yellow, red, smoke. 

Orange, yellow, red, smoke. 

Orange, yellow, red, smoke. 

Looking across the fire, he was met with Sam’s eyes. A twinkle. 

Bucky was scared. He was genuinely scared.

Ms. Grace taught him so much. Her grandkids pushed his fearful ass into practicing guitar and singing. 

Rebecca used to say he could hold a tune. He had to do her justice. Bucky would make her proud. 

“You ready to wrap up? You do still wanna go on that early morning run?”

Bucky’s eyes snapped up. So enthralled in the chords dancing in his head, Bucky didn’t sense Sam’s voice reaching across, coming so close. “Can you wait a few more minutes?”

Sam ducked his head before looked back at Bucky. “I got a few minutes to spare.”

This was dumb.

Sam’s smile was enough.

If this was as good as Buck got, it was more than he deserved. “Thanks,”

Denziel strode by, patting his arm, “You ready?”

The rest blurred for him. Bucky rose, took the guitar, made the adjustments the twins taught him, and took a deep breath. There was no preamble. There was no introduction or pomp and circumstance.

This, right now, was the reason why Bucky decided to try. 

With his sleeves rolled up as best they could, Bucky started to play the guitar.

Simplistic. 

Earnest.  

Thrumming with life. 

Easy and open. 

Vulnerable.

Sam was enthralled. 

Bucky may have started and stopped once to play in front of the community and…

Chestnut strands illuminated to orange, yellow, red and smoke.

This was not hesitation.

“The book of love is long and boring

No one can lift the damn thing

It’s full of charts and facts and figures

And instructions for dancing

I love it when you read to me

You can read me anything

The book of love has music in it

In fact that where’s music comes from

Some of it’s just transcendental

Some of it’s just really dumb

Sam couldn’t stop. He didn’t want to look away as Bucky leaned back over the guitar, crooning gently.

Ms. Grace, suddenly poised in the fold out chair next to him, nudged Sam. “Open it.” 

A rucksack was by Sam’s feet. He knew that was James’.  “Ma’am. Where did you get this?”

Sam knew. He had to play the game. He had to see what Bucky wanted him to see.

His books. Worn bounds, stark book fronts, and wrinkled leather. These were his life.

Sam loved reading.
