The Best Red vs Blue Watch Order Guide Ever. Of All Time.

So. You want to watch Red vs Blue, huh? Maybe you read my long post about how it's so weirdly incredible yet impossible to recommend and now you want to give it a shot. Or maybe you have seen the show before, but it's been a long time and/or you didn't watch any of the mini-series or anything and want to give it another go. Either way, looking at a show with a 21 year history is kind of daunting, and you have no idea where to start.

Well luckily for you, I've done the work for you.

This watch guide will cover all 19 seasons of the main show, most of the mini-series, and some of the PSA's and other such bonus content. There will be links provided for where you can watch everything I talk about. This Google Drive (from reddit u/Exitity, unsure if they also have a tumblr) has all of the individual episode uploads, and most of the stuff I'm going to be talking about, although I'm trying to use YouTube links wherever I can. Any links will be colored in light blue for additional visibility.

Couple of quick things before we begin.

When possible, watch the individual episode uploads rather than the "complete" editions. The "Completes", while they may provide a more streamlined viewing experience by cutting out all of the bumpers and outros and such, accomplish this by cutting out a lot of jokes. RvB has a lot of jokes that happen during the fade to black at the end of an episode, and a lot of those get lost in the edits. There's also some things that just straight up get cut for seemingly no reason. Side note, the DvD/Blu-Ray versions seem perfectly fine, and honestly are even better to watch than the individual episodes if you have them. They're like a best of both worlds - adding some extra music and such (ESPECIALLY in the first 5 seasons) that really helps make a nice presentation of the show. If that's an option available to you, I recommend it. Otherwise, stick with the individual episodes.

At the end of each entry in the list, I may present a Side Quest section. This will include anything I feel you should watch that isn't necessarily canon, but helps add some extra life to the series. This may include some behind the scenes stuff or a selection of the PSA's and the non-canon mini-series. This stuff can be really great for building out the characters in a way that doesn't necessarily affect the greater story, and can especially be good for interactions between characters that maybe don't interact much in the main show. Anything I put in a Side Quest is strictly optional, but will add to your viewing experience. Obviously, there's a lot more bonus material than what I'm putting here. I'm just putting down some of the highlights. And if you end up liking the PSAs and such then just know: there's so much more for you to explore.

Early RvB is very much a product of it's time, and sometimes you'll get hit with a line that stops you dead in your tracks. Adult-oriented comedies can always be a minefield, and RVB's roots as a show made for Halo fans in 2003 definitely don't help. However, while this is the most common in the first five seasons, it never really stops being an issue. The purpose of this guide is simply for watch order, but if you have any specific trigger-related questions about any season of rvb please feel free to shoot me an ask or even a DM - i'm more than happy to help.

Okay, let's begin, breaking it down by arc.

The Blood Gulch Chronicles

You may hear people telling you to skip the first five seasons of the show and just pick up with Season 6. Those people are lying to you and do not have your best interests at heart. The first five seasons are pretty much strictly comedy, and from Season 6 onward the show starts to explore deeper themes and stories while still falling back on that comedic foundation. Skipping straight to the deeper stuff doesn't work very well IMO, because those five seasons are spent getting to know the characters we're going to be following for the rest of the show. The stuff that happens in Blood Gulch never stops being important - whether it's side characters showing back up again later on, or laying the foundation for a lot of the moments and story lines that make some of the later seasons so special.

Either watch it Now, or after you watch the finale, but I highly recommend the 2003 Season 1 DVD Commentary. It's just Burnie (Church/Lopez/Vic) and Geoff (Grif), and it's really nice.

If you've ever watched any behind the scenes stuff for RvB or even rooster teeth as a whole, you have almost certainly seen This Clip, which is a behind the scenes of the voice recording for Grif and Simmons' lines in episode 1.

RvB: Zero + Family Shatters

okay so here's the deal. If by this point, you're really just interested in the characters you've been watching for the past 17 seasons and not so much the story or anything - you may not get much from watching Zero. I do think it's interesting to watch, if only because I think it's got a lot of missed potential. Zero is not served well by being a season of RvB, I think I would have liked it a lot more if it were stand-alone, though that doesn't fix all of my issues with it. If you wanna jump straight to the series finale, you absolutely can. It's a pretty short watch, though, and I've heard that Family Shatters was better. I'll watch that one at some point.

I'm not doing this with an other season (though I do recommend going back and watching all the teasers and trailers at some point), but before you watch the finale you should watch The First Trailer For It. I think it sets up the season really well, and helps make some of the rushed set-up exposition in Restoration make a little bit more sense. honestly this should just be considered the first scene of the finale. Then watch the finale, and then you are done with all of the main show of Red VS Blue. Go forth, and be free.

As someone who's been in multiple fandom circles and calls themselves a Splatoon fan, I've seen a lot of focus and discussion on "THE LORE!!" and "CANON!!!" and to be honest with you... it's getting really tiring and I think people are just WAY TOO obsessed with what a wiki or an intern at Nintendo says rather than forming their own perspective on events and coming to their own unique conclusions.

Now, I wanna say, if talking about lore and discussing which elements are canon or not makes you happy and you love talking about that, then that's perfectly okay. It's fine. It's not for ME personally because my focus on Splatoon is the gameplay, music and the storytelling chops of each Hero Mode.

Because, to get away from Splatoon for a second, for my Sonic fans out there, you remember when Sega and the people behind the show Sonic Prime said that it was canon to the mainline Sonic timeline? And if you said otherwise you were technically wrong because "oh Sega said this, so it MUST be true!"

........But then everyone said that Sonic Prime cannot be canon to the mainline Sonic timeline because it has a fuck ton of inconsistencies? Yeah.... funny. Basically, don't put a lot of focus into "what actually happened" and "oh this is what the multi billion dollar corporation said!" because there's always gonna be one guy out there that goes "um this information kinda fucking damages the story in a severe way." (And sometimes that one guy is me.... hehehehe....)

I could obviously talk about.... you know.... Hypno Callie again for the 50th trillion time.... (and i will)..... This bitch.... I wanna love you girlie i really fucking do but Nintendo and millions of people make it hard to....

Nintendo set up Callie's villain arc decently in Splatoon 1 with the Splatfest dialogue, the Squid Sister stories and the Sunken Scrolls, yet they ultimately damaged the progression of the arc by saying "nah fuck u she got kidnapped and brainwashed, removing all of her memories and free will because fuck telling a good story with satisfying set up and pay off that allows for character growth. Fundamentals of storytelling? What are those?" And it also destroyed Callie as a character by reducing her to an object that the player "must save from da evil Octavioooo" and "oh look at her! She put the stupid brainwashing shades onnn againnn!! such a dumb fucking moron dumbass piece of shit right guys?!? lmaoooooooooo!! explore the dangers of addiction and how you need to seriously change your life and be surrounded by those you love in order to change bad habits?? Themes?? PFFTTT! NAWWW! THAT'S LAMEEEE!! It's Callie! No one cares about Callie!! She's stupiddd!!!"

(I talked about Callie in a tumblr comment section one time and I got made fun of for by a guy way older than me. I love humanity.)

It also ruined DJ Octavio's character too because, if what Nintendo said is true about what he did then he cannot be redeemed in Splatoon 3. He cannot go back on the shit he's done. But they try to redeem him out of nowhere and now he's all chill with the New Squidbeak Splatoon and appeared in the Grand Fest.... Yet what he did to Callie which Nintendo loves to push is truly TRULY unredeemable and if that's the case then welp.... I call that bad writing, straight up. It's bad writing.

I really hate it when something happens in a story and you perceive it in a certain way where you feel like it elevates the events, but then the company behind the story chooses to pick the worst outcomes possible just because? And everyone rolls with it just cause? Ugh...

Lesson of today is, don't fucking listen obsessively to what a company says and suck it up. Consume media and come to your own conclusions on what happened. As long as you have tangible evidence to back up your claims you can make any interpretation you want to, whatever makes you feel happy bestie!

Hear me out, I love Jason and Bruce's relationship because it's so complex and so so painful

I like both the idea of them working out their issues and accept their differences out of love, that's ideal for me. From all possibilities.

However if I don't get that? I love the idea of Jason continuing being a rogue and continuing in his own path to find his justice, because at the end of the day that's what Jason and Bruce are doing by being vigilantes, looking for the justice they didn't get to have

Both Bruce and Jason are so incredibly stubborn, both have mortally different morals that built over their trauma, they differ in this and this makes it very difficult when trying to emphatize with the other. Yet they still love each other which is heartbreaking.

Jason psicologically taunting Bruce is my jam too. If Bruce gets to beat him up I wanted them equals in this, I don't like this dynamic in which Bruce gets to beat Jason up (for no valid reason other than toxic constipated shit because you can't tell me the same Bruce I read in Venom would beat up his child) and for some reason Jason doesn't retaliate, or even lashes out?

To this point I'd rationalize it as Jason and his bleeding heart showing because he is capable, this goes to my believing that Jason is way more forgiving than people give him credit for.

Otherwise I don't like it much, maybe for character exploration and whump but otherwise I just don't.

It doesn't feel right for Jason to be Bruce's victim.

He was tormenting him and was an equal to Bruce in Under the Red Hood, so it's alway feels wrong to see their dynamic in any other way.

This fanon take that Bruce is permissive and has Jason as his favorite is my not so guilty pleasure, it's really fun to explore, it's easier to believe without Jason dying or expressing his trauma is entertaining, complex ways.

Overall I love their relationship in any way, I'd eat up almost anything with them. But I'd like more consistency, and ideally, yeah, them working out their issues I would adore. But see them in conflict is fun too. <3

seri/rei, oneshot, 1k. snapshots of pre-relationship and established relationship scenes, I’m quite fond of it. on my first reading I’m pretty sure I remember not paying attention to the habit piece at all (even with it being right in the summary) so at the last scene I was hit by the double whammy of ‘oh so that was what serizawa was reacting to’ and ‘AW… THAT’S SWEET…’; I think the fic does a great job of hiding/not acknowledging certain things the perspective character knows and is reacting to, which makes it fun to reread and pinpoint what exactly serizawa’s previously more opaque train of thought was. like, it’s the same stuff, but you get to read into more nuance.

I can be biased and right. there are metanarrative elements that I find fun and that, in my opinion, highlights how sister did in fact get a degree in philosophy. there’s also some fun subtle and messy characterization notes, like when serizawa asks reigen not to cook for him. it’s hard to talk about what I like about this fic without giving away a lot of specifics, so go read it.

For all the ways that this fandom luvs to say Armand is responsible for everything and Lestat is such a victim, I'm surprised nobody has pulled apart what's right there about this so called "Lestat's version" of when Claudia was turned. We even see Armand's facial expression when Louis says it's true.

What this version of the story does is "prove" why the coven rules matter and place a lot of blame on Louis for Claudia's existence. It also marks her as "a defect" and makes it easier to justify that her death was a mercy killing, if u wanted to do that (so u could keep dating someone for decades). Lestat went off script and said to blame him too but the original story was meant to only say this girl is an abomination and Louis knew that beforehand. This is now the story that Louis calls "Lestat's version" even tho it rly prbly isn't tho, is it? Is Lestat in that room to tell the story himself in private? Daniel is also squinting at Louis throughout this telling but otherwise keeps his mouth shut (for now). It's also convenient how, despite the fire, there's still playbills from this event, the whole script too! Whether Louis remembers the fire itself is another thing.

Ppl are rly dropping the ball on exploring this but u had all the time in the fucking world to blame Armand's manipulation for the 1x5 fight. Is this not enough of a thing to explore for u or what? Did u just buy that Louis would drag Claudia's full body like that fr and do all that shit cuz of course he did, of course Lestat rly warned him? Bullshit lol. Even by the fandom's beloved book canon Lestat never thinks about the consequences of Claudia. Check ur (racial) biases. Look at how the characters are actually moving around each other. What decides what picture u take? Do you spend a lot of time setting them up or is it more spontaneous? - Sometimes I'll have a very specific idea (like the Cal silhouette photo or these portraits of Bode) so everyone gets posed and lit very intentionally. But most photos are "discovered" while exploring the environments, watching different character animations, etc. I'm constantly pausing and zooming in with photomode to see what a moment looks like.

I want to make a video tutorial that walks through the entire process (because describing this stuff with words is a struggle) so let me know if you have any specific questions!

Deciding on a photo theme or goal is helpful though. If I want to take photos of Cal and Merrin fighting together, I'll obnoxiously follow Merrin around and make sure Cal is near her while attacking the Jedha patrols. There'll be a bunch of duds and a few cool moments (and a bit of electrocution, sorry Cal)

Do u ever use the lights? - Always! The lights make a huge difference in photomode, but I know they're tricky to use. I posted a mini tutorial on lighting recently, but it goes through general concepts rather than any technical how-to. Definitely want to break down the process more in a video tutorial.

Do u do something w them outside of the in game photomode, aside from cropping? - I'll edit my favorite photos by adding more contrast, either from the built-in phone app or a photo editing software. This ask has a good before/after example.

Do u ever consciously think about composition like the golden ratio or the 3x3 grid? - Sometimes! I've been in the photo/video industry for almost nine years (oof that makes me feel old) so a lot of that experience probably shows up in my photomode compositions. I like shooting IRL portraits with a telephoto lens, so these virtual portraits are almost always at 3x-4x zoom to mimic that look.

I'm more than happy to talk about what works for me; however, no two writers are alike so some things might resonate and some might not.

Take what does, and leave what doesn't.

Read - a lot. Published works, fanfic, poetry, novellas, series, oneshots, longfic; read it all. Explore different genres and storylines. Find what you like about them, and what you dislike. What makes them good or bad in your opinion. Play around with what you'd do differently if it was your story. All of this will help you figure out a few things: one being what you personally like in storytelling, and two the basic structure of storytelling/what makes it compelling.

Find your voice. We all have a unique tone when telling a story, verbally or otherwise. Figuring out what your personal voice is will help you write authentically but also I can guarantee you're going to be 10,000x more happy with what you come up with.

Showing vs telling is a delicate balance. Sometimes things need to be written out plainly, and other times it works better if you add more meat to the sentence. An example would be: she's angry vs her heart rate pulsed in her temples, her fists shaking at her sides as a wave of heat rolled through her body. While they both convey the same thing, one can be more engaging to read over another.

Sometimes you have to write the boring bits - and write them plainly - to further the plot.

Most people are not a walking thesaurus, and using big fancy words like you're writing a dissertation can be very off putting. Absolutely use stronger words if you can, but you don't need to be using furfuraceous to replace scaly.

Additionally, forward momentum: one action should always lead into another which leads into another and so on.

A first draft is never pretty (if you decide to do multiple drafts) and that's okay.

If you get stuck, go back several sentences. Sometimes we write ourselves into a corner without realizing. OR add what you want in brackets and move on if you're getting hung up on certain parts. An example being something like: He was [find word for mix of angry and sad] but had to stiffen his upper lip and move about his day as if [insert phrase mentioning what happened earlier]. Worse case, put it down for a day or so and come back to it later with fresh eyes.

As mad as it makes me, and as hilarious as it is... writing in Comic Sans helps. RIP.

Saying your sentence out loud can help you figure out if something is off, and saying your dialogue out loud can help determine if it's something an actual person would say.

Taking your time and being patient is the best thing you can do for your creativity otherwise you might burn yourself out.

I find music helpful so I create playlists for every fic I write that matches the vibe I'm going for. Additionally, I have pre-writing rituals that help me get into the headspace.

Yes, cryofreeze your darlings - put them somewhere safe for later. You can use those sentences for something else, they don't need to be completely deleted.

As for keeping characters... well, in character, it depends. Watching/listening to/reading whatever media they're in and paying close attention to the words they say + how they say them + if they have any specific phrases, the way they move + their actions + how they react to things helps a lot. Personally, I keep little lists of things I've noticed that I can refer to if I need them. And sometimes, you just have to suspend your disbelief a little and determine how someone might react to the particular situation you've put the character in. When it comes to that, I tend to think back on when I've been in similar situations or have felt the way they should in that scene, and use how I've reacted as a touchstone.

Write what YOU'D want to read.

And most importantly, HAVE FUN.

the more time that passes the more plausible the catfish GF theory sounds to me. if i had to guess, ben probably met his girlfriend online, possibly through dark jurassic (which a lot of the fandom seems to be in consensus about). as for it being brooklynn ... not too sure about that one! i've mostly treated it as a crack theory up until now, if just because of how absurd it sounds on paper, but i wouldn't put it past brooklynn to pull something like that. keeping in touch with ben is probably one of her only links back to her friends, besides her contact with ronnie (who is only partially connected to darius at this point, since he quit the DPW). i'd recommend giving these two posts by kitabearuwu a read if you're interested in exploring that theory further.

now if the girlfriend is real: i obviously can't speak for you or other bi/pan/otherwise mspec people, but i've come to not care all that much, if i'm being honest. it was definitely a shock to hear, as was the intended effect, since darius, sammy, and yasmina all initially reacted with surprise. but my question is what harm does ben having a girlfriend in chaos theory pose? like, does it play into any negative stereotypes? does it communicate a dangerous message about queer people? i've seen some people argue that it perpetuates the notion that mlm relationships are "icky" and shouldn't be portrayed in media, but i have to disagree, respectfully.

i think it's also really important to remember that subtext is ... ultimately kind of subjective, and is totally independent of the creator's intentions. that's the whole point of subtext—it exists below (hence the prefix sub-) the underbelly of the text. you have to be looking for it to see it, basically. and for a long time, the fandom (or at least the queer part of the fandom) subtextually read ben as gay! a lot of that had to do with his rather intimate interactions with the other boys, juxtaposed against the way he rejected yasmina when he thought she had a crush on him ("i like you, but i don't like like you ... i'm just now starting to find myself"). but ... i don't know, if we want to start citing text, you could also argue that ben's whole thing about not putting him in a box circa jwcc s5 could be a point towards him being generally unlabeled, which leaves room for him being mspec.

if i had to make some definitive statement on the matter, i guess it'd be that this fandom gets really bogged down by the specific labels of these characters, when it's really not all that necessary. this is still a gay show made by gay people featuring unapologetically gay characters in explicitly gay relationships, of which has been some of the best gay rep i've ever seen in media. and having that kind of representation on TV matters more to me than knowing what ben specifically identifies as, even if it doesn't align with my headcanon. it doesn't have to! but i also don't know for sure if it doesn't align with my headcanon, because we haven't gotten the full story yet. ben's girlfriend is most likely gonna be of some importance, given that he mentioned her twice without going into much detail about her. that leaves a lot of room in future seasons to expand upon who she is and her role in both the greater narrative and ben's life specifically, including his identity. i just think it's best we reserve judgement at this point, basically

Maybe you are fortunate enough to be born wealthy, but wishing for the thrill of adventure, you steal your dowry, or other funds of money from your family, to buy a ship and sail away

I think all these different situations would alter the way Norrington develops an obsession with you

If you are already born into privilege, as the child to a title-bearing, land-owning father, you would likely have made James Norrington's acquaintance after debuting into society

Since he laid eyes on you, he fell besotted with your appearance

Being from a family with prestigious name would amplify his obsession with you from the start, as he can marry you both to satisfy own infatuation, and for your well-known family name

Even if you were from a well-to-do merchant or member of the gentry, it wouldn't be far out-of-place for someone of his social rank to marry you

However, being born into poverty or as a member of the yeomanry, I don't think he would have a reason to meet you before chasing you as a pirate

Once you commit to a life of piracy, he would begin to take notice of you

You and your crew become a real thorn in the side of the East India Trading Company, plundering cargo ships and stealing their goods

At first your skills in looting and making a quick escape are a nuisance only worthy of "wanted" posters that send scrappy bounty hunters after you

These bounty hunters have the tendency to end up at the bottom of the ocean, however

Soon it is clear that you're no longer a fly that needs swatting, but rather a wasp that needs to be exterminated

Your piracy has become a real detriment to the East India Company's profits

Norrington, either voluntarily or under orders, takes a ship and seeks out you and your crew

Even if he knew you before, he would have no way of knowing you were to become a dreaded pirate

All he knows is that you had disappeared, and were presumably kidnapped, or worse, dead

No matter how elusive you may be, Norrington has years of experience in catching pirates

Talent and luck can't equate to experience--he's been at this far longer than you've been a pirate

So when he eventually ambushes your ship, you're woefully unequipped to prevent the grappling hooks from chipping into the side of your ships, and hopelessly outnumbered by navy officers

If he recognizes you from before your days of piracy, his heart might as well stop in his chest once he sees you now

He would be far more merciful towards you if he knew you before, believing himself capable of reforming you from your ways

Otherwise, he feels that his attraction towards you is a betrayal to his values, but at the same time it would crush him to dispose of you as he does with other pirates

As he gets to know you, he might twist it into his head that you are a victim and that he can save you and show you the error in your ways, specifically if you grew up from a poor background

And if you manage to escape...

He's done foolish things to take down pirates he hates, but for someone he loves...you'd best believe he would chase you to the ends of the world to capture you again

Overall, I think he would be much more lenient towards you if he knew you before you turned into a pirate

He believes that you must have been led astray by some evil influence, or forced into your lifestyle

Whereas if he didn't know you before, he may be harsher towards you in combating his own inner turmoil of having feelings for you

He may feel he has to make an example of you, not just for others, but for himself

You're not someone he can marry...so how have you gotten him so wrapped around your finger?

Either way, you don't want to face the wrath of this navy officer

I'd suggest you make haste now in escaping, as he won't be giving you a head start

He'd travel through hell to get you back in his grasp

still not exactly sure if this counts as a trope but it's taggable on ao3 so i'm going with it bc there isn't anything else that i'm consistently into rn. but yeah a lot of my fic ideas right now are starting to converge around these themes of characters exploring or discovering their kinks and the scenarios are both extremely hot to think about as well as extremely interesting ways to explore character. most of these ideas revolve around chihaya experimenting and i think it compels me so much because of his body/self-image issues and like, the main kink i'm exploring with him being exhibitionism.

i've already thought chihaya was a freak (affectionate) since i first met him but like kink feels like such a specific thing within the realm of sexual exploration and i feel like he'd have an interesting relationship with it. it's also really interesting for me to think about bc it's different than "normal" smut scenarios. there's like an element of control and orchestration, which are also really interesting with chihaya, and playing with dynamics in a more tangible way than i usually do. todochi isn't a ship where i have strict t/b preferences but i do see chihaya as more domineering/leading, so taking that in this direction where he's like, proposing something to try because he's curious, and how that relates to the trust between todochi and their understanding of each other has also been cool to explore. it's basically impossible for me to write about chihaya without it being a character study so i really like putting him in a vulnerable situation like this and seeing how he deals with it. he's already showing more embarrassment/anxiety in my current wip than the full confidence he had when i first had the idea, and i'm actually really liking that. there's something really satisfying about putting him in an uncertain situation and having him fear it but then feel gratified by it, feeling freed by some part of it.

so i'm really looking forward to trying to write more of this theme and seeing what i learn about the characters and just exploring more in this space i haven't really gone into before. it's super cool!!!

17. talking about your writing and editing process

well i ended up somewhat answering this in response to one of hidey's but it's fine, i don't have much of a process anyway

ideas usually come to me either as lines of dialogue or random scenarios and i'll just try to note those down in my ideas doc asap so i don't forget, especially when it's dialogue bc the phrasing can be so finnicky. and then it's kinda just like... i write when i'm lucky enough to have the energy and braincells and motivation dskjhkjsdg

outlining isn't something i really do past like, bulletpoints of dialogue/specific scenes i'd like to hit in the order i'd like to hit them but not much more detailed than that. so i keep that in the doc i'm working in to reference but otherwise my stories kinda discover themselves as they go and usually end up pretty different than what i originally had in mind.

i write in a way where i mostly nail down the phrasing im going for as im writing so i don't have much of an editing process there. lately hidey has been betaing for me from time to time which has been really nice hehe. i mostly need this when i get really stuck on how to progress (or how to start.... or how to end....) and then sometimes to see if the things i'm trying to convey are coming across. so usually that will lead to some edits but not usually any major rewrites. sometimes adding scenes, sometimes changing them, but i'm kind of allergic to drafting so there's never been like a huge overhaul of something i'm working on. for me it's like once it's written (esp if a Lot is written) im not super willing to change it a ton and luckily so far i don't think i've had anything where i feel like what i have written is all wrong and needs to be redone... i think asking for hidey's thoughts while i'm in the middle of something helps with that LOL so it like, corrects or clears up the direction i'm going before i can go in a bad one, yknow?

then a few proofreads at the end mostly for wording and such, and then voila.... posting and dying!!

i think my new answer will be all at once which i posted in early december! it's a short oneshot about todo and kaname and i was really happy about it bc i got to start the ship tag on ao3 skjdhgjks but also it ended up like a lot better and more interesting than i thought it would. it started out as such a silly little idea about todo piercing kaname's ears but as i was writing it i noticed more about the similarities between them, and the interesting things they could notice about each other, and it wound up pretty heartfelt and sweet. i had another todokei wip before this that was a pretty different angle of them, but i'm glad i ended up writing this one first. it was really fun and it reminded me how effective it can be to write about a short, simple scenario and just focus fully on it, rather than a long overarching story, which the last few stories i wrote before this one had all been. and it helped me better understand what i find compelling about their relationship!! and propagandize others about it >:3

19. hmmm ok so many things hard to say about characters who got SO little screen time lmaoo. so i mean .. that would be the only thing i could dislike about any relationships she had - they didn’t get enough time. i would obv watch 1000 hours of just .. wan and raava existing, doing anything at all. but still ofc being their relationship to each other for the most development of any then .. that’s beside the point

i wish we got more of her relationships with vaatu and korra. i’d love to have seen more in depth exploration of her dynamic and existence with vaatu before they were separated, and also post-fusion, how his existence still affected her going forward. with korra, i love the few interactions we got to see between them but again i just wish we got MORE!!

Where shipping is concerned, I'm generally rather down to explore different ideas/plots. With the exception of: infidelity, pregnancy (breeding kinks are fine just not actual carrying of children), constant relationship angst with no reprieve and break ups.

I struggle heavily with Bipolar 2 + Cluster B comorbidity and certain themes make emotional regulation really difficult.

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

Anything past 10 year age gap** And even then I'd personally prefer for the characters to be above 25 y/o if the age gap is going to be an important factor of the thread.

Are you selective when shipping?

Yes. I prefer to go off of chemistry between the characters portrayed + if I am able to have an healthy line of communication with my writing partner. It's really important to me for my writing partners to feel comfortable with discussing boundaries or if they've changed their mind/are no longer interested. Especially with the nature of what I write (Yaoshi etc)

Shipping, and by extension rping as a whole, is a collaborative experience. I would rather prioritise being able to have fun doing so.

I'm pretty flexible with that as long as our portrayals have chemistry together. I don't mind crackships, unlikely ships etc as well.

BUT in terms of platonic pairings. the fandom didnt really change my opinion on any BUT im in the middle of reading a reaaaally good fic that expands on flashlight girl's character (called flicker in this fic,) and explores the idea of runaway kid & six having a dynamic. it's super fun & INCREDIBLY well written and im very sad for when i finish reading it cause its unfinished and was last updated in 2022 </3

Hey, can I see what your other Kirby ships look like?

Hahaha I'm going to be totally real, there really aren't a lot of other Kirby ships I actively think about other than metadede-!! -u-'

I don't know what it is, but that particular ship just happened to scratch an itch in my brain I didn't know I had lol. And I only really started shipping it around a year and a half ago! A King and a knight who have worked together through the ages and both have really interesting and different personalities and likes and dislikes... I have a lot of fun with them! I never thought I'd ever gain the confidence to regularly produce and share ship content on any platform. So I was happily surprised and grateful to find a little corner on the internet here to share my thoughts on them with willing readers haha.

Other than that.... I don't have a strict list of ships I stick to! I feel like I keep saying this kind of thing, but in most cases I get more enjoyment seeing other people's interpretations of ships more than producing them myself! The Kirby universe is rich with characters and a wonderful space to explore character interactions and relationships with each other (platonic or romantic or otherwise!)

I mean, I know everyone interprets Kirby character ages differently which is also cool and all! I just have my own set of established headcanons that I've been slowly cultivating since I got introduced to the series 15 or so years ago.

I personally see characters like Kirby, Bandee, the other Waddle Dees, Ribbon, Adeleine, Gooey, Prince Fluff, Elfilin, etc. as children. They're powerful and brave and very unique from each other, but still kids in my eyes.

And then there's the characters like Dedede, Meta Knight, Queen Ripple, Daroach, Hyness, etc. that are characterized definitively as adults. And other characters like Magolor, Taranza, Susie, the Mage Sisters, etc. that might be interpreted differently by different people, at least from what I have personally seen! (But I see them as adults, personally)

Again this is all my personal opinion haha. I quietly stay away from ships that mix characters from my personal child and adult categories above- (which are not exhaustive lists because this post would be ten million words if I tried to list every single Kirby character, and are my personal characterizations and not me trying to impose my views as the one, canon interpretation!).

OC x Canon is also enjoyable in my book as long as the ages and dynamics are appropriate and consensual for both parties :)

And I don't need or want to make a list of everything I stay away from or anything. I don't feel that strongly about it. I guess my biggest personal example is that if someone ships Metakirby or Dedekirby (or their respective mirror versions), I'm not going to enjoy or support that no matter what their creator's justifications/reasonings for shipping those are. I'm just going to stay away from that ardently.

Anyway, I'm not trying to be controversial or say my opinion is fact either! These are just my personal thoughts and feelings and I curate my internet experience accordingly. My interests change all the time, I just enjoy seeing character interactions and stories written with love and passion!

....If I had to pick another ship that I like thinking about, I guess I'd pick Magoranza. It's fun to think about how they'd interact with each other, and sometimes I like to think of Magolor and Taranza as Garak and Bashir from Star Trek hehehe.

TL;DR: At the time of writing this post I only like creating metadede content for Kirby ships but I quietly enjoy a variety of other people's ships.
