you know those posts where cap’s seen as a dad figure? what if one of the reasons why the other superheroes think that way is because when league members bring up there kids or need cap to cover for them when their kids need them cap is just super understanding, empathetic and gets oddly proud of them for being with there for their kids

the actual reason why he’s like that is because billy just really values those things as an orphan and is proud to work with such great people

Whenever someone mentions or even breathes the implication of Cap being mistaken as a dad or seen as a father figure, I lose my marbles, because, oh cheese and crackers, I just can't express enough how much I adore this headcanon! I'm doin' a little happy dance :D

Billy Batson is someone who has always yearned and wished to be a part of a family again since his experience was cut short due to tragedy and made sour thanks to his uncle Ebeneezer being crusty dusty, so it's easy to see him respecting those who appreciate the family they have. He had to grow up and mature far faster than any kid his age, and compared to most adults, Billy is actually more mature and responsible than they are, unfortunately. It's reasonable to see that this would be reflected in Captain Marvel; someone who's immature at times, but ultimately a good-natured person with a golden heart and good intentions, who others can depend on anytime and anywhere (much to the sacrifice of his personal life).

Billy has been in enough foster homes at a young age to know the difference between a good parent and a rotten one, so seeing members of the league prioritize their family members and kids would make him really happy. He's the type to take on any shift or mission in the place of another member if they had something important to do with their family. What you said about him being very proud and empathetic towards parents in the league made me realize that Billy would have loved to have parents like them had his own not perished. In a way, he's not just proud of them, but a little bit envious.

This also brings up another headcanon of mine, where Captain Marvel is the unofficial designated babysitter of the league when emergencies come up. Because despite not knowing who he is/his secret identity, people trust him enough to let him know theirs. Like, it all starts with the Captain in the watchtower break room drinking apple juice, and is suddenly bombarded with a group of children or sidekicks being thrown at him by the other heroes, saying that the Captain was in charge while they were away before teleporting away.

All these kids and teenagers that he suddenly has to help look after, and while Captain Marvel is calm on the outside, Billy Batson is freaking out on the inside. Some of those kids are older than he is, and there's some hilarity to it. Shenanigans ensue in the Captain Marvel: Adventures in Babysitting day, but it all turns out okay in the end. As a kid, Billy would know how to talk to them and keep them busy with fun/educational stuff. Might even teach them a thing or two about good morals, manners, archeology, or ancient magic stuff.

I imagine some of those kids would want to be babysat by him again, and Billy would welcome it (with warning ahead of time). Captain Marvel is just someone people like being around with his good dad vibes. Some of them even ask if he has kids of his own, but are met with an empty room immediately as the man zooms off whenever people ask him questions about family.

"huh?" You let your attention turn from your laptop to stare at him inquisitively across the small, circle dining table. "What was?"

Sun closed his eyes for a moment, a smile creeping wider on his cheeks as he just barely giggled. "Sorry- That question you asked a few nights ago." His eyes opened, and you watched his pupiless eyelights shift towards you. "About Moon's wings." He finished

Your brows jumped, suddenly filled with the knowledge that Sun still remembered that dumb question. "Oh! I'm sorry- I didn't mean to pry, or pressure you into talking abou-" Sun brought a finger to your lips, clicking his tongue.

"Ah-ah. Nothing of that sort, friend." His rays retracted and unretraced rythmically as he sat back. "I've only been thinking of how to describe them the best way I can."

Your laptop hummed under your fingertips, your attention fully on the way Sun's pupiless eyelights flicked across the table. "They were as big as mine… Maybe bigger." His rays swung idly. "His feathers were dark- though lighter than they are now. They were like… hmm, what to compare…" He broughts his finger up to tap against his bottom lip, "Like a raven's wings. They reflected my light, any light you could see. They always seemed to glisten, like staring into the night sky... I-" He closed his eyes again, making a sound that mimicked that of an exhale.

He didn't look at you for a moment, the deafening silence prompting you to speak, "I- They sound beautiful… I'm sure he misses them."

"I'm sure he does too." Sun's voice came out uncharacteristically low, and your mouth opened to consult him- but his jolly attitude beat you to it. "Ah! But, I'm sure he'll get their beauty back soon!" "Say," He started before you could even furrow your brow, "I should probably check on those muffins Moon ordered." He winked at you in a playful manner, before sliding out the dining room chair and taking off into your kitchen. Before reading the comics, thanks to sladixk fics, i genuinely thought that dick always lost to slade, now I know that most times when he's and adult he beats slade no problem but it got me wondering how you feel about this canon-fanon difference

OHH this is a good question!!

i think sometimes fanon makes Slade a little... too badass. i think something some fanon fans don't understand about Slade in the 80s/90s is that he was like... kind of a loser? like don't get me wrong he was a main villain of the Titans for a while and he was certainly meant to be a formidable villain but this reputation he has in fanon almost supersedes him. (for example with specific plots: the fandom interpretation of the Judas Contract is Slade as the mastermind, but the writers have said that Terra was supposed to be the big villain manipulating everything. which is a ridiculous thing to put on a teenage girl getting groomed but, it does depict the intention of who was supposed to be "at fault" in that story) and don't get me wrong, i definitely love playing up the reputation and aura Slade has, but he really is a general contract killer on the level of like, Deadshot. personally, i wouldn't even put him on Lady Shiva's level, i think she far outranks him.

and to be fair to some fanon, recent comics have... tried to badass-ify Slade. some of his more recent Deathstroke runs are really trying to put him as this guy with legions of men underneath him who's this *deadly* killer who can take on Batman and Superman and all the like. and i just find that... boring? like, do i enjoy him being a smarter-than-average villain with a lot of connections? yes. but i don't think anything in his backstory really lends him to being as formidable as he appears in some fanfiction that puts him on this untouchable level. i would personally go as far to say i think *most* of the Batfamily could beat him in a fight under the right circumstances. bc Slade really is just Some Guy who got a serum from the military and went AWOL. (there's certainly more to his backstory than that, but at a glance, he's really not a trained fighter from birth like other characters are) and whilst i do enjoy Slade being formidable i have to admit, it was sort of fun when he was a loser? and i've gotten a kick out of certain comics that point out he's only a terrifying villain when he's up against teenagers. (Ghost-Maker calling him out on that is one of the funniest things, to me) like could Slade give Batman a serious fight? sure, but i don't see him ever winning unless you *really* nerf Bruce. and i really don't see him ever winning against most of the Batkids once they've got some years under their belt. Slade's scare factor was always tapered by who he was against, and he was a *Teen Titans* villain. so he's a little ridiculous and sometimes just sort of a weird loser. and i say that affectionately.

furthermore, on the flipside, i think... sometimes, we woobify Dick a bit too much to my tastes. or, really any Robin who gets shipped with Slade but of course Dick is the standout in popularity and i find it's more prominent with him. it's really a general slash problem, in which one man must be the Strong Top and then other must be the Weak Bottom. and that manifests in Slade being physically larger than Dick (which in canon, ehhh i think the size difference would be largely negligible) and him being able to beat Dick. bc it makes for more fanfic scenarios where you can put Dick at Slade's mercy for porn, for angst, for whatever you'd like. Slade is a good pick if you want to really put Dick on the weaker side, bc you can play with healing factors and strength enhancements. so on a physical level, Slade will be stronger than Dick. does that mean Slade can beat Dick in a fight? historically, no. i mean, Slade trusted Dick to train his own daughter in the Renegade storyline, so i think this is a fact even Slade is aware of.

i don't think it's a bad thing fanfiction likes its big top/small bottom tropes. if you want to make Dick a submissive, pliant bottom who is going to lose in a fight to Slade for your dead dove porn, get it. i've probably written or will write the same. it's appealing and it's a very common trope for Dick. but it becoming the fandom norm does sort of nerf Dick, occasionally. i think some fans don't fully comprehend the actual level Dick is on, where he's very close to being an equal to Bruce, if not already Bruce's equal. in fandom Dick is sort of trapped in this "post-adolescence but not full adulthood" state that does not acknowledge he has been an adult running superhero teams for years. he was filling in for Bruce in the Batman mantle all the way back in the 90s. he can defeat villains like Slade, and usually without a lot of difficulty. to me the only time you can realistically make Dick lose and it be "in character" is either 1, to have Dick *very* early on in his Robin years (i think if he's past 16, he can beat Slade) or 2, very deeply wound Dick/have him in a psychologically altered state via drugs or something. otherwise yeah, i think Dick wins 99% of the time.

but fanfiction is fanfiction, and it doesn't *have* to be canon. esp if Dick losing to Slade is just a sexy prerequisite to porn. do i wish more fanon explored Slade as kind of a loser? absolutely. do i think Slade is *too* cool in most fanon? also absolutely. but those are my tastes and i don't begrudge anyone who just wants a strong, mean man to whump the shit out of their blorbos, which usually, is the purpose of Slade. i find most fanfic with Slade tends not to be exploring Slade's character. they're simply using him as an easy stand-in for a metahuman who's morally grey and very mean but has a nuanced history with Dick, or whoever else. which, very valid. not all fanfic needs to be a character study, but i do think it'd be cool to see more Slade-centric fics that *do* want to be character studies.

tysm for asking !! I just explained the basic premise here, but I realized I didn't really actually talk about the superlantern dynamic so this is going to be what this post is about!! :)

under the cut bc I'm a little embarrassed (TW for consent issues altho that's like, lowkey the whole point of an arranged marriage AU)

basically, it's all set up by the first night they spend together after just having been wed:

Due to some miscommunications in the Krypton-Corps treaty, Hal (who is a trans man here because if I don't write Hal as having some complicated gender feelings, it's my sign that I have been kidnapped) believes that he has to get pregnant to make the treaty-required child. So. On their wedding night, Hal puts the moves on Clark, and Clark almost believes that Hal also wants it (and Clark's not even opposed to having sex with him because even though he was forced into the arranged marriage, sex is fairly decoupled from ideas of marriage for this AU Krypton because of the birthing matrix situation + Clark's also a progressive by Kryptonian societal standards), until Clark realizes that there's been a fundamental misunderstanding of the treaty and is like, okay, so now I'm never trusting your yes again because I almost couldn't tell the difference.

So like. They both still have to work together because they both want the treaty to succeed, despite their saboteurs lurking in the background (oooh political intrigue). But Clark, despite being a normally kind and agreeable guy, is pretty icy towards Hal initially, because of this. Maybe not icy per se, but like, distantly polite? Like, Clark will act close and warm with Hal when they're in public, but as soon as it's just the two of them, it's bland smiles and nonethusiastic dismissiveness.

But then the progressive social movement that Clark is a part of is genuinely super mad that he got forced into marriage and partially take out some of their anger on Hal via violence, so now the two of them have an incentive to actually pretend to fall in actual love even though everyone knows theirs is a political marriage.

Their whole marriage is essentially them being coworkers in the extreme where there's a bunch of problems that they have to work together to mitigate, like attempted assassinations and stuff. yk. just a casual Tuesday with the bae <3

Then it goes from them being coworkers + forced proximity to them being lowkey kinda actual genuine friends to them each slowly getting actual romantic feelings towards the other, which they know is requited back because they've learned the other well enough to know when they're putting on a farce and when they're being genuine, but like, they can't actually be in a relationship yet (despite being married lmao) because they have too much shit to worry about at the moment. yk. that kind of dynamic

the progressive social movement eventually becomes, like, a straight-up people's revolution. Clark joins, and so does Hal, reluctantly, because he's super wary of becoming a Sinestro-like figure interfering with intraplanetary affairs (Sinestro haunts the narrative lowkey bc of the dictator thing). At this point, there's little incentive for them to continue to keep up the "act" of being in love, so they are...kinda actual boyfriends now! yay! but then when Hal tries to put the moves on Clark again, Clark just gently stops him and is like, I'd rather wait until we are completely free of any incentives, so that this is completely pure and genuine. So instead of waiting for marriage to have sex, they're waiting for divorce

When they eventually reform the government and make what will essentially be their Bill of Rights but with a special emphasis on negative rights (as in, the govt can't do this or that to you), the treaty gets overturned, and their new Supreme Court (or the equivalent thereof) will have their first case: the El v. Jordan divorce

(I have the entire ending climax and resolution in my head playing like a movie. But I would need to write all of the middle parts before that could happen sobs)

If you're not too busy, would you mind listing some of the things you think count as death flags for Mr. Spender?

There's the obvious fact that he's the "old" mentor to group of young protagonists, but what else do you think would count?

OHH BOY ok so I'd think I'm a crackpot for this but since we're talking about Zack "Foreshadowing" Morrison. I have some thoughts

No harm in leading with the (chronologically) first thing that jumped out at me:

This one IMMEDIATELY made me antsy whenever I came back to it after my initial read, and considering Zack has referred to it on twitter in the past as one of their favorite jokes it's definitely not been forgotten about.

Second, the sheer amounts of near-misses, jokey or not, of Spender narrowly avoiding specifically lightning

Again, not much, but it's weird that it happened thrice, latter two of which had real gravitas rather than an one-off joke.

And third, Spender himself. He's repeatedly shown himself to be kind of a self sacrificing idiot, as well as prideful to a fault. Granted, it's both him and Mina trying to take on all the responsibility of saving Mayview and its inhabitants from their fate.. But Spender is exactly that right measure of doesn't-value-himself-enough (chest footprint aftercare or lack thereof), having an obscene amount of power (enables his loner act + pride) and poor judgement that has the capacity to put him at great risk. And it has!

Spender has not only shown low enough self-esteem to view himself as the de-facto scapegoat for the safety of the town, but also prideful enough to make very bad calls that end up in people, often himself, hurt (COUGH FORGE INCIDENT COUGH)

This is all conjecture, but it's definitely enough to make me worried about him :') Even if all this doesn't mean he'll necessarily die he's definitely getting (even more) seriously injured at some point. I love the guy but he's so far doing a horrible job of convincing me he wants to live bad enough to circumvent at least that

something about LBK that I love is that the relationships between the main cast are very unlabeled / loosely labelled. like you said, grills and aps are very Something. like theyre qpps, that’s the closest thing to label them as, but theyre just.. them. both of their relationships with tater im also really excited to explore. they definitely do not become his parents, theyre not like his older siblings… theyre, well… his friends!

Just wanted to pop on here and say as someone who adores wenclair and Harry Potter your AU is stealing my breath away! I am only on the first chapter but I love the way you are characterizing Enid!
