I was thinking about how Steve would deal with his sexuality crisis and how when he's tryna figure everything out he maybe has this moment of panic because he thought he'd stopped lying to himself and trying to be someone he's not but maybe that's not the case at all and he hasn't stopped pretending at all. And he just starts spiralling and it makes him want to stop thinking about pretend it isn't there so he just shoves it into a proverbial box so he can ignore it

the idea that he though he was doing better, being himself, not lying to anyone not even when he’s alone. maybe he doesn’t like change and he’s hanging on to fragments more closely now, gripping things tightly in his palms. where he used just let it wash over him, no point giving it thought, things don’t change anyway. but then everything did, right? everything changed and so did he and now he has all this stuff. all this stuff attached directly to his heart strings.

and then he likes boys.

he likes girls but he likes boys. has liked boys. wants boys, too.

now there's boys and he starts to shut down.

Just that feeling of 'i'm doing better' but then it kinda turn into 'okay i'm tired lets just get though it' then it keeps going 'just one more week, just one more day' and then you look around and it feels like everything you've built in crumbling away around you. and that person you built up and thought you created was actually formed on a mudslide, your foundations were never gonna hold. it's all fallen apart without you really noticing

he doesn't have the words to describe how. there's a war happening between what he thinks he should feel, what maybe he does feel and who he thinks he is. who he was and who he wants to be are there somewhere too. but it's lost in the soup of his head.

but he has robin right? with her bright light and unconditional love. but this thing, this new thing. he's always been that right? this boy girl thing. so, he's a liar then. he never told her so he lied. lied to bright, beautiful robin. how could he have done that?

and there's eddie. eddie so much a part of this boy girl thing. eddie who feels like he could be his. feels like summer rain on his skin, feels like citrus tang on his tongue. but eddie knows who he is, think so deeply and is so true, so distinctly and explosively himself. and steve doesn't even know one bit about who he is. not really. not now. after this thing. its torn it all down. everything changed again but this time the cracks aren't through the town they're in his skin, at his roots.

can't bring eddie into that. can't let robin risk falling in.

but then maybe they jump through those cracks, start hiding things in the crevices. little beams of starlight and greenery. start helping him see that those cracks are quite pretty, maybe they let you see a little more of his skin. that this mud slide he's on feels a lot like grounding. like barefeet on grass and leaves turning with the sun. that maybe this boy girl thing is new, and old, and its so so steve. that maybe he can be okay again, build something new and live a little differently. but still true. because its always been true right? all those feeling, all those smaller him's and things locked away. they're peeking out of the cracks now. peaking out into this thing. this thing he can be. always be and always play with. even if it takes along time, that okay, it'll take all his life, maybe. to figure out he likes oranges, likes daisies the most, likes girls, like boys, likes this trying to be himself.

and maybe those hidden crevices start to shine a little brighter, the plants start to bloom. maybe robin never left and never will, find him a bathroom floor all his own. sees that always and right now are sisters and she can take his heart and keep it next to her own, until he's ready to have it back again, hold it real safe this time.

and eddie keeps turning up on his tongue, keeps dripping all over his skin. becomes his eddie. bis boy. his one. his new side of the boy girl thing. a this boy thing and love thing. romance on the mudslide. kisses under starlight.

"Hello, Damian." Jazz greeted in her usual calm tone.

"Big Fenton…" Damian nonchalantly acknowledged the older Fenton, much to her annoyance.

"What's with the sudden change in tone?!" Jazz yelled.

She booped him on the nose with a teasing glare and he exploded.

“I have had enough of this!” He shouted. “You— You—!! You treat me too nicely!!”

At first, there was a flash of hurt on Jazz’s face, but then she relaxed and smiled as he continued speaking. She giggled and then coughed to cover it up. Damian glared at her with a flush on his cheeks as Jazz then knelt before him, bringing her monstrous height down to his level.

“Is that so? Why do you think I’m being too nice to you?” She asked gently, and her look of open affection made Damian scowl at her.

“Your tricks won’t work on me any longer! You are too nice, too accommodating, and too soft! I will not accept this behavior anymore, Big Fenton!”

Jazz chuckled and then said, “I’m just treating you with respect. I’m not treating you any different from anyone else, Damian. Well, maybe a little, but we’re friends, aren’t we? Aren’t I allowed to treat you nicely?”

She smiled and Damian flushed furiously. “Y-Y-You witch! Don’t look at me like how Richard does!”

Then he stormed off. There was a pause, and just as expected, she followed after him, keeping up pace with him easily. They walked in silence, but he could feel her stare into his back and he blushed even further.

“Where are we going?” She asked, her tone sounding playful.

Damian harrumphed. “To my room.”

“Oh! Are you going to show me your art? I’d like to see it. Can I?”

“Tch. Fine! But only because I know you’ll keep bothering me otherwise!” (But he was secretly pleased anyways.)

Hi hi!! First off I gotta let you know you're easily one of my favourite artists on Tumblr and I'm pretty sure you're single handedly pulling me back into the star trek obsession with your art (I love the shapes and colours they are very special to me. Also the way you draw bones....love that old man)

But if you don't mind me asking!! How do you go about drawing legs/arms? It's one of the things I'm struggling most with at the moment but I LOVE the way you draw em. No pressure to answer tho ofc!!

nothings suuuper concrete because of course things can always change with body type, weight, or how muscley a character is. i just kind of look at everything from an anatomy perspective, simplify and exaggerate for readability, and uhh also i like shapes and pointy things :]

Now that 2024 is coming to a close:

1) Of everything you've made this year, which ones are you the most proud of?

2) What are a few of your favorite things (art, comics, fics, etc) that someone else has made this past year?

As far as my own stuff, I would have to say:

This Hide and Seek animatic -- I love making animatics, but they end up taking me a LONG time! That does mean that when I finally finish one though, it's very rewarding to see the full thing!

This scene, for the rottmnt cut intro project -- It's a short scene, but was a lot of fun to do! I also think it shows how much I've improved, even from my first scene for this same project.

This hardcopy of IMBI -- I'd never tried bookbinding before, but I had so much fun learning how and was really happy with how it turned out!

These mixed media collages -- It was one of my first times experimenting with mixed media, and I think they ended up looking pretty cool! Plus, just like the others... I had a lot of fun with it! (I suppose it makes sense that my favorite pieces are kind of just the ones I had the most fun doing, huh?)

And then, for other people's stuff... I'm sorry, but I'm just so indecisive! I have to at least pick a few things from each category!

"Long" Comics:

Here There Be Turtles (by @theelvishfiddler) -- This is hands-down one of the most impressive fan comics I've ever seen! Not only does it have incredible art, but the characterization is spot-on, and the storyline is so engaging that I am absolutely dying to see what happens next after every single update! I've seen people saying that the quality is even better than the official comics, and... yeah, no doubt about it, it really is! This comic is INSANELY good!

You've Been Portal Jacked! (by @wickcipher) -- This comic has such an interesting premise, with an artstyle that I love and SO much potential! I was immediately hooked by the first chapter, and was so excited to see it continue! Very much looking forward to seeing where things go from here!

"Short" Comics:

This Raph comic (by @e-turn) -- Raph and Leo tug at my heartstrings sooooo much! And the effect of Raph's time spent under the krangs' control is something that I never get tired of seeing explored. He loves his brothers so much, and would never EVER want to hurt them... but now he has these memories of himself doing exactly that, and those memories are just so much at war with who he is as a person, and AAAARRRRRGGHHHH!!!! I love it.

This Splinter comic (by @charcoaldustonmyfingers) -- THE EMOTIONS. I enjoy seeing this one every time it crosses my dash, and it has yet to lose its impact. Splinter loves his boys so much!!

This alternate movie ending, and part 2 (by @magisav) -- Beautiful, and heartbreaking. Both at the same time. The look on Leo's face is ingrained in my memory forever.

This Firefight fan comic (by @sludge-city) -- This one is such a well-done adaptation of some of the most emotional moments in this incredible fic! It was heartbreaking enough reading it the first time, and seeing those emotions depicted on Leo and Donnie's faces ripped my heart to shreds.

This redrawn IDW scene (by @purplepixel) -- The redrawn panels are beautiful, and I love the coloring! But also... man, this hurts so much knowing what comes next! Donnie, nooooo!

Multi-Chapter Fics:

Emotional Support Water Bottles (by @dandylovesturtles) -- This series is easily one of my favorites! Poor Leo goes through so much... and yet even when it's over, that kind of experience will undoubtedly leave some scars behind. Not physical scars, but very real nonetheless, and I've loved seeing Leo and his family try to navigate their way through that.

Firefight (by @remedyturtles) -- A true classic, at this point. With probably some of the most intensely emotional scenes I have ever read. Highly recommend, if you can handle that level of hurt before the comfort!

DFL's Whumptober 2024 (by @daflangstlairde-art) -- Technically a series of fics, which are unrelated to one another. But they are related in one important way: making me FEEL THINGS. Each one is so well-written, and I've been hooked all the way from the first fic to the last!

Oneshots:

The Shadows May Go (by @remedyturtles) -- This fic. THIS FIC. It made me cry. Splinter loves his sons so much, and even in his darkest moments (perhaps especially in his darkest moments), Leo knows that.

Now the Darkness Comes Alive (@goodlucktai) -- The role-reversal that I didn't know I needed. It's beautifully written, and like I said, Raph and Leo tug at my heartstrings so much! I started drawing something for this fic a while back, and desperately want to finish when I have some more free time on my hands again!!

Bed Sheets (by @dandylovesturtles) -- Splinter is not a perfect parent, by any means. But he loves his sons so much!! This fic is practically the embodiment of those two things, and it makes me emotional every. Single. Time.

Art:

This drawing of April and Karai (by @darkpolicepsycho) -- absolutely beautiful!! I love how you can just feel the power of Karai's ninpo flowing through April.

This drawing of Raph with cherry blossoms (by @pelmenya-owo) -- soooooo pretty!!! The colors. The lighting. I cannot possibly overstate how gorgeous this drawing is!!

These Undertale-style drawings of April, Raph, Leo, Donnie, and Mikey (also by @pelmenya-owo) -- I've never played Undertale, but I love these little animations so much!! Very cool.

This drawing of Samurai Leo (by @kathaynesart) -- I showed this drawing to my husband, and he immediately asked for it on a T-shirt. It is PHENOMENAL.

This Hollow Mind drawing (by @grey-viridian) -- I haven't read the fic that this is from yet, but oh man, the emotion in this scene!! Family protecting family. I love it so much.

This drawing of Leo (by @oh-lordy-lord-save-me) -- The colors. The colors!! The absolutely STUNNING colors!!!

This TNV art (by @windide-blog) -- I'll admit, I still need to read TNV. But even without context, the scene depicted here is amazingly well-done! I can only hope to be able to draw scenes as beautiful as this one day.

This art of Leo falling through the sky (by @sad-leon) -- The background is beautiful. The imagery is beautiful. The animation is beautiful. All around: beautiful.

This drawing of FMA Sprout, plus this one (by @intotheelliwoods) -- I just love these so much! Brotherhood is probably my favorite anime, and man, Sprout makes a great Edward Elric.

This drawing for the Turtles Together zine (by @andva-ri) -- This one has everything. Splinter. April. Draxum. Big Mama. The turtles, of course! I love all the different scenes, and how seamlessly they come together into an absolutely gorgeous art piece! This is a level of skill that I can only hope to one day come close to reaching!

This drawing, also for the Turtles Together zine (by @staticwither) -- Just look at those bright, beautiful colors! Truly incredible. This scene was already great in the finale, but this art piece somehow manages to take that energy and multiply it tenfold! It's beautiful.

This drawing of Leo with water lilies (by @tangledinink) -- I absolutely LOVE the paint-like style of this one! The level of detail on this is insane, and it's just downright one of the most beautiful art pieces I think I've ever seen. I want it on a throw blanket.

This Kingdom Hearts AU drawing (by @boxfullaturtles) -- I have very minimal knowledge of Kingdom Hearts. But even without that context, this drawing is just SO GOOD! I love the stained-glass design! And the way all the characters are in their own circles, and Leo's head is lined up inside of one as well, but continues down into a full-body drawing. Gorgeous.

AUs:

Posessed AU (by @grey-viridian) -- Such an interesting premise!! It somehow manages to be absolutely heartbreaking, but also so much fun at the same time.

Tiz Sep AU (by @tizeline) -- I love the comic. I love the characterizations. I was hooked on this AU from the moment Leo starting infodumping about Sonic! But also, Mikey campaigning for president of the multiverse while Donnie works against him was perfection. I just love seeing these characters do literally anything, because they're just so enjoyable to watch!

"The Besties" (2AL by @intotheelliwoods & SLAU by @dianagj-art) -- I'm aware this is like, an AU crossover within an AU kind of situation, but man is it so much fun! And also, so much more emotional than you'd expect turtle multiverse shenanigans to be.

Animations:

Rottmnt Restored (by @emichen88 & @powerauerart) -- Incredible. Amazing. Phenomenal. Astounding. 100% would watch again and again and again.

This JJK WIP (by @seasaltcosmos) -- I don't care if it's unfinished, I LOVE this!!

Wraith tilted his head. He looked at the glittering world around him, darkness alit with small, glowing speckles. Each little glow drifted in one direction, unable to fight the current. They all avoided his presence and he smiled at that, knowing that they feared him and rightfully so.

However, he couldn’t find what he was looking for.

Wraith stood in the middle of a soul stream, like a rock sticking out of a river, as all of the dead went to the next part of existence after death.

Where was Dick Grayson’s soul?

An answering warmth made him turn. Behind him, much larger than the rest of these little, lonesome souls, was a bright, glowing object with wings, like an angel made into a star. It glowed so brightly and so warmly that Wraith felt as though he was being cleansed.

Wraith couldn’t help but laugh, as he noticed the other souls that couldn’t help but orbit the larger one of Nightwing’s. His wings, in return, closed as if to embrace them in a hug. More and more souls began to leave the stream to circle around Nightwing and steal a hint of his warmth and affection.

Wraith flew over to him slowly, squinting from the brightness. The heat almost stung, but it was so soft and gentle that Wraith smiled again. Leave it to Nightwing to have such a wondrous, kind soul, even after dying.

“Nightwing,” Wraith called, “We have to go. Your family is waiting for you.”

Nightwing’s soul paused in its movements, wings flapping. The souls around him spun like little moons. Wraith batted away one that drew too close to him.

“We have to go now. Or your body won’t be able to handle it anymore if you’re dead for too long.”

Nightwing hesitated for only a moment longer before flying over to him, leaving the drifting souls behind. They shook themselves from Nightwing’s kindness and then rejoined the stream to the other world. Wraith cooed as Nightwing flew to him, before landing into his hands. While the other souls varied in size from crumbs to being coin-sized, Nightwing’s soul was a wonderful, powerful size like a boulder.

Wraith couldn’t help but lean closer to press a kiss to the edges of Nightwing’s soul. Nightwing fluttered and flapped his wings, rubbing against him in all of his radiance.

Wraith smiled, his entire being softening under Nightwing’s brilliance. “Let’s bring you back, my hero. Your family is mourning.”

After Wraith left the border between the Infinite Realms and the Living World, he watched from a distance as Nightwing’s family sobbed and hugged his revived body tightly.

Robin was crying especially hard, clutching at him desperately as Red Robin and Black Bat hugged them both since Robin wouldn’t leave Nightwing’s arms. The rest of the vigilantes checked over them, still crying themselves, as the Batman hugged them all, his cowl hiding his own tears of relief.

Nightwing reassured his siblings and looked up, past the shoulders of the Red Hood and Batman, to make eye contact with Wraith.

Wraith chuckled and waved goodbye before disappearing. In a few days, Wraith would approach him again for his thanks and attention. But for now, he could concede and allow Nightwing to soak in the love and care of his family.
