i just had a thought for little ellie!! 🥺 imagine her not being allowed chocolates because she was given enough of it already so you and aaron hid the chocolates BUTT ellie found them!! 🤭💗 since she found the chocolates, she can't help but to eat them right away!! and after a while, you and aaron are like, "why's ellie quiet?" 🧐🤨 and then you and aaron found her in a mess, just eating chocolates and having the most adorable expression when she got caught 🥺🥺 she'd probably even have the biggest puppy dog eyes too just so she can get away with it especially since aaron has a soft spot for her 🥺💗

ellie made a bit of a fuss when the two of you had cut her off too 😭 she wanted more but you were all, "you'll spoil your dinner🫵🏻" and then aaron added, "you'll get a tummy ache🤨" so it's put away, situation resolved. but then you're off doing your own thing, as is aaron, and ellie's veryyyy quiet considering she had just thrown a minor tantrum. plus she loves just being your and aaron's shadow, following you around/wanting to be in the same room, so both things considered - it's especially suspicious.

first you check to see if she's with aaron - you find him in his office and ask if ellie's with him, he answers, "no. is she with you?" to which you shake your head. the two of you immediately know she's probably up to no good and go searching for her 😭

you find her back in the kitchen, sitting on the floor with the chocolates in hand 😭 you're both taken aback like, how in the world did you manage to find that??????

ellie looks up all innocently with her big eyes, smudgy chocolate stains around her mouth and hands 😭😭😭😭 she knows she's in trouble, but she also knows she has her daddy wrapped around her little finger 🤭 she really plays up her cuteness, so getting in trouble mayyy be avoided??

but it's not 😭 as much as the two of you (aaron mainly) hate scolding her, it's getting to a point where she can't get away with everything. aaron has to try really hard not to let his face soften and produce a smile, but rather he crosses his arms and asks, "eleanor, what do you think you're doing🤨" he has to bring out the full name for this 😭

so she's put in time-out for a bit, and you and aaron laugh about it in secret 😭🙄🥰 it's not funny that she disobeyed, but the whole scenario is. you do take a picture of her all messy for the memories - and to show the team of course 🫶🏻

but now you also know that if you have to take something from her, to really put it out of her reach 😭😭💓 also, ellie does end up getting a stomach ache and barely touches her dinner that night LOL😭 lesson learned

HI!! I was thinking maybe a mizu x reader where the reader is kinda in the same boat as mizu where she has heterochromia where one eye is a bright green.

You were a mere wanderer—or perhaps just a traveling archer who seeks revenge for those who had thrown you into a ditch, or perhaps your parent who had attempted to kill you as a child because you were a ‘monster’. That was the idea you had grown up with. One bright green eye and the other a different color. That’s why you wear the pure black glasses, to hide away your eyes.

One day, you were crossing through a village. You stood near a stand, buying some food while you kept your head down low. A simple cloak was draped over your shoulder and a pure black glasses hiding your eyes. Your bow hung around your shoulder while the bag of arrows you carried around was on your back. You thanked the food stall owner and dropped some money into his hand before quickly leaving. You didn’t got unnoticed by a certain samurai though, one with orange tinged glasses such as yourself and a very giddy companion.

“Master, look at them! Do you think they are like you?” Ringo pointed out as the two walked into the village. Mizu looked in the direction that he was pointing at, and she found you rather..suspicious. Pure black glasses? Hiding your eyes? An archer too. Mizu squinted her eyes, watching your figure trail off to the distance.

Mizu put her finger up to silence Ringo before she signaled for him to follow her. She stayed just far enough from you, stalking you from behind and observing your actions. As you were looking at a few little charms at a small stand, you noticed a stranger just lingering around you. You tilted your head to the side, wondering who this mysterious figure was and why they seemed to be following you for quite awhile now.

Perhaps it’s just a coincidence.. You told yourself as you began to move, walking away and keeping your head down low. But every time you think you’ve lost them, they keep reappearing near you. That samurai and his companion, what did they want?

Having enough of this little stalking thing, you ducked into an empty street then jumped up onto a wall, and made a leap onto the rooftop of some building. Just as you expected, Mizu and Ringo followed you.

“Huh, where could they have gone?” Mizu wondered to herself as she walked further into the empty street, which had long been abandoned by the locals of the village. Ringo began to hum, following after Mizu while she attempted to look around for you. You stared at the two from the top of the building, frowning.

Were these people sent to..kill you? It wouldn’t be the first time, but what the fuck did you do now?

You lifted up your bow, carefully aiming your arrow at the one with the orange-tinted glasses. Inhale You closed one eye and steadied your heart. Exhale You pulled the arrow back and carefully aimed for the person’s vital point.

Then you released it, allowing the arrow to soar down at the person with perfect accuracy and precision. Yet somehow the person detected it. And dodged it by an inch, allowing it to hit the wall behind them instead. Mizu draws her blade, looking up at the figure on the roof with the bow pointing right at her.

“You! What are you doing? Following me? Did someone send you?!” You yelled as she took a step back. You jumped down from the roof and landed on the ground, still pointing at the two with your arrow in a threatening manner.

“No, no, no! You’ve got it all wrong! You had the same glasses as my master and we thought you were a teeny bit inter—“ Ringo immediately shut his mouth when the arrow was pointed at him. Mizu groans, stepping in front of him and pointing her blade at you.

“Lower your bow. We have no intentions of killing you,” Mizu said calmly as she put her blade away then raised both her hands up, tilting her head to the side for you to do the same. “Curiosity, I suppose. I..haven’t seen someone like me before.”

What?

You lowered your bow and pulled your glasses over your head, revealing your different colored eyes. “You fucking decided to stalk me just so you could see why I’m wearing black glasses?” Huh, that was one of the most interesting things you’ve ever heard. Usually people stalked you just to catch a glimpse of this ‘monster’ wandering around and perhaps turn you in for some hefty reward.

Mizu looked in awe, lowering her hands slowly and staring at your eyes with such intent. You were..beautiful. You seemed so elegant and relaxed, and poised. You came from the same background as her, stuck in the same boat with the same treatment from everyone around you.

“Woah! Your eyes are so cool! What a pretty shade of greeen!!” Ringo loudly exclaimed as he looked at you. Mizu looked away, hiding her face away with her palm while she cleared her throat. “Oh yeah, what’s your name? My name is Ringo! You are just like my master, no? Except you have a bow! Which is reallly cool and—“

Mizu shut him up with a look before she looked back at you. You put on hand on your hip, looking at the two suspiciously. They seemed..nice, but are they? i'd say it likely began during a firelight ambush: jinx had one of y/n's friends cornered, ready to make the final blow before y/n came in clunch and jumped her.

she was mad too. y/n wasn't gonna let that slide😤. jinx was someone that both angered and annoyed her in general. so of course that means the two of them went ham on each other. (👀)

y/n felt terribly conflicted. she knew deep down before admitting it to herself that she had romantic feelings for the crazy blue haired girl. and that was what troubled her: jinx was crazy, insane.

but during their time together, they really got to know each other, even in weird ways. and y/n knew jinx had a soft tender side of her that was attentive and loyal. protective as well..

if she was being honest with herself, she couldn't bring herself to care much. neither could jinx after her momentary freak out before y/n pulled her back in.

from then on, they are girlfriend and girlfriend! 😝

there is still a lot of sneaking, y/n doesn't dare mention it to anyone.

during ambushes, jinx and y/n may "play fight" so no one noticed a shift in their behavior, and argue about putting a cut or a bruise just to be all the more convincing.

jinx can't pull herself off of y/n and she feels horrible about any mark that she inflicts upon her, cleaning her up and apologizing profusely. y/n melts every time.

jinx loves sneaking around, she feeds off the adrenaline of risking themselves getting caught.

y/n feels like she's living two different lives. regardless of whether it guess stressful at times, she still wouldn't want it any other way.

jinx has to come up with a lie whenever silco asks her what has her smiling so big to herself.

they spend most of their time in quainter areas of the city or jinx's weird hideout. both of them are very sneaky, only rarely do they come close to getting caught.

only twice have they almost been seen by silco: jinx had just sat y/n on her workbench and slid her hand down her panties when the loud reverberating noise of the door sounded through the room. y/n never fled so fast.

for the time being they are content. hopefully in the future the two can be together without the worries of being caught by both opposing sides. but lets focus on the present for now, shall we!?

Oh ryuuxwq, I have many thoughts. So much so this feels like less of an analysis and more like me embodying this gif:

The theory Akane died and was rewinded back to life is one I really like, because Akane is the only character in the whole story that has two different bodies, which have been proven to be disconnected from each other (Being stabbed in his keeper form doesn't affect his human body, so it isn't a magical girl transformation. Is a brand new body)and he is arguably not alive in his clock keeper body, since he is not visible to people who aren't near death'

Which is weird, considering we never see these two seemingly disconnected bodies together, there is no "your human body falls asleep when you're in supernatural form" with Akane, no attempt to do the usual "your spirit and your body are different things" which most supernatural mangas do.

Even tbhk consider the soul and the body different things, otherwise Hanako wouldn't be able to possess Nene and 'borrow' her body.

So is not like Akane's soul is forcefully separated from his body when he transforms or that his watch literally gives him a brand new magical body. It's more like Akane time jumps forward to his own death whenever he uses his clock(?) or something equally as suspicious. Time nonsense is involved, that's for sure.

I have a theory that the clock keepers can mess with people's lifespan (said theory doesn't feel as wild as it used to now that we know they have enough power to recreate timelines, effectively changing MANY people's fate) considering Akane used to be a normal human who couldn't see supernaturals (so he wasn't near death) when the keepers were looking for recruits BUT the second Kako decided to form his contract Akane 'conveniently' started seeing them.

It's heavily implied the keepers stopped time when making a contract with Akane and being able to share their power with a human is a power in itself, so their habilities are far vast than the basic "mirai move time forwards and Kako moves it backyards." they are op as hell. Who knows if the flashback ending with Kako's clock means they went back to a time where Aoi was safe or if there is more being done here?

The thing that makes me the most confused is this:

Cause it raises the question "Can Kako rewind Akane's time now that he is an honorary keeper?" I was tempted to say "no, he can't mess with Akane's time" cause why would Mirai sacrifice herself to protect Akane if Kako could heal him as easily as a flick of his watch? I am aware Mirai loves Akane but that seems extreme of Mirai for a staged trial🤨

But if Kako can't mess with Akane's time it would means whatever they did to Akane messed with how he interacts with time itself. Do you know how insane that sounds, especially since his supernatural body grows with his human body (since his supernatural body isn't the body of a 12yo boy, like when he made his contract) everything would become 10 times more confusing if Kako couldn't alter Akane's time (plus, the idea he 'revived' Akane would become impossible)

So I went to the moment you mentioned, the one where Teru talked about Akane's lifespam being affected.

and Teru was wrong here. He had assumed Akane's human body would be badly affected by his wound, unaware both bodies are not connected.

However, both are under the assumption Kako can heal the stab wound.

Which have been proven correct (?) off pages since once the severance was over and Akane got to see the keepers again, he was healed.

He no longer has his stab wound caused by Aoi.

I now have the theory that Kako can rewind Akane's time but whenever he does it, it takes away some of his lifespan.

I think so for two main reasons, first it makes Mirai's sacrifice more serious and understandable.

I understand that Mirai loves Akane but unless there is a scene of Mirai feeling uneased by Akane's pierced and bloody stomach that we are missing, she should not save Akane? She is unbothered by dead or broken bodies, she know Kako for way longer than Akane and clearly love him lots but did not try to save Kako from his staged death, and she likes the idea of turning 'naughty kids' into sand (her rumors is about stealing people's time, and she literally lives with Kako, who can rewind time, so death isn't even relatively permanent to her)

She has always been like that, even Nene's dead didn't stick with her, she could be seen playing with Kako a few pages after the death reveal.

BUT it is important that she isn't as stupid as she acts, she understand the gravity of Nene's situation. She understands humans have lifespans and that even she can't overpower a death set by fate.

So her not wanting Tsukasa to pierce Akane's stomach, because she understands his lifespan would be reduced if Kako rewinded his time makes more sense to me: Even if the trial was a mockery, Akane's body isn't, his injury may be cured but he would have to deal with real consequences.

The second reason is because the theory that Kako's powers reduce people's lifespans would explain why Akane was able to see Kako when Kako needed him to form a contract, despite having enough lifespan to be oblivious to supernaturals before.

However, this paints Kako in a pretty dark light? It would recontextualize Kako's rewinding of the whole school and Akane's anger towards Kako during it all significantly.

It seems extreme??? Especially for keepers that went out of their way to rewind the timeline to save the students and the balance of the world? It also leave many questions about how much control Kako has over people's lifespans, or how much Akane, as a temporary clock keeper, is affected by it compared to other people?

So I'm still firmly putting this on 'cool theory to play with' territory instead of 'prediction' territory.

Regardless, it's clear the keepers are very powerful, especially Kako.

This just makes them pick Akane weirder right? They are powerhouses with the power of time and life on their hands, why pick someone as unremarkable as Akane?

I don't think is a 'you're the chosen one/your blood was in the prophecy' kind of thing. He is genuinely a normal kid of some random family. I don't think he secretly lied, cause Akane was oblivious about supernaturals before his contract and the manga never shows any signs the Aoi family is relevant in any way: No supernatural beauty, no connection to the Akane sacrifices, no suspicious wealth, or tragedy. Even Teru, who is our exposition guys have nothing to say about his family

I will admit that his past is vague enough that Aidairo could potentially reveal something 'special' about it, but I personally hope he remains a normal guy.

The "You're not special, you're replaceable" energy to his contract makes Akane's obedience to the keepers and his uncharacteristically pessimistic stance on the situation way more impactful than if it was a "YOU'RE A DESCENDENT OF THE KEEPERS OLD FAMILY ALL ALONG! THAT'S WHY YOU WERE PICKED!" situation, or something just as dramatic, and 'unique' so to speak.

I like to believe they picked Akane simply because he is a good pick. How do people always describe Akane? Responsible, dutiful, nice, wise, hard-working, stubborn. You need to have all these qualities to be trusted with a key that can change reality, someone too selfish, or too dumb, or too quick to give up regardless of their family name would be reckless with so much power.

Hell, most people would abuse the 15 minutes of stopping time that a keeper is given, but Akane always guards his power until the end of the day, and ONLY when no emergency happens did he use he pause Aoi's time to stare at her, something he always does without time being stoped anyways?? Something Aoi doesn't mind? Since she knows he is always keeping an eye on her??

So he basically wasted his 15 times cause he didn't know what else to do with it????? He really settled for 'i like watching Aoi, i'll increase a little the time i have to do this' ?? What a guy.

During his 3 years under a contract, Akane has never cheated on a test, tried to do anything he believes would make Aoi uncomfortable (like so much as poke her hand/hair/lips etc), or used to get revenge on teru. He was extremely responsible for the standard of a pre-teen who suddenly got powers (he was 12 when he first got the watch. he was a kid T-T)

He is a good babysitter to Mirai, no matter how much he feel some genuine resentment for what she did to him, he has a soft spot for kids and never want to hurt her. Just look at how gently he picks her up after he spend the whole chapter frustrated that she escaped. His hold was so loose and careful no wonder she easily escaped.

He has been working hard and doing more jobs than he should since he was a kid! AND HE DID THOSE JOBS WELL HE WAS DUTIFUL.

So he can work hard, he can do a ton of chores efficiently.

He must be one of the best interns the keepers ever got, cause they are way too happy to abuse their power and make Akane work like a dog.

So I genuinely think they picked Akane because his family name may be unremarkable as hell, but Akane as a person is perfect to have as a maid/babysitter/keeper-of-the-key-that-can-reset-timelines in the school.

no cause the first time it's a genuine accident. you guys are just chatting and hanging out on FT, sevika's doing house chores and you're getting dressed.

you forget you've got your phone propped up on your dresser as you change out of your shirt and pull another one over your head.

sevika's been quiet for the past ten minutes, the two of you just liking having the other there while you're doing boring shit, so she startles you when she suddenly talks.

"babe... you just flashed me." she says with a smirk. you jump and run over to your phone, giggling.

"whoops!" you say. "forgot you were there." you say, laughing and scratching the back of your head.

but when you see sevika's reaction, a smirk on her lips and her pupils dialating... you can't stop thinking about it.

so twenty minutes later, while you're cooking up lunch in the kitchen and sevika's on your phone, by the stove, you wait until she's looking at the phone and then look away, pretending to be distracted while you pull your shirt hem up to 'wipe your brow,' exposing your tits in the process.

sevika lets out an disbelieving laugh. "babe!" she exclaims. you blink back at her, innocently.

"what?" you ask. she scoffs.

"you flashed me again!" she says, a grin on her lips. you giggle.

"oh, shit, sorry." you say with a shrug, not sorry in the slightest.

sevika starts to get suspicious then, but she doesn't say anything.

you try again an hour later, while you're on your bed, watching sevika play video games on her couch.

"i'm gonna take a nap." you say over the line. sevika's eyes flick back to her screen, and she gasps as you pull your shirt over your head to get 'comfortable for your nap.'

"you're such a bitch!" she exclaims, laughing. you giggle.

"what?!" you ask. she shakes her head at the screen, rising from her couch.

"take your fuckin' nap." she says. "bye."

the screen goes black, and you laugh to yourself, satisfied that you've sufficiently flustered your girlfriend.

you fall asleep quickly, all your dreams of sevika, and you wake up confused thirty minutes later when there's a pounding at your door.

you tug your shirt on and wander into the living room, tugging your door open, only to burst into laughter when a you reveal a flustered sevika on the other side of the door.

"did you rest?" she asks as she pushes past you and into your home. you giggle as you close the door behind her. she pins you to the door.

"was in the middle of a pretty good dream about you, actually, 'til you interrupted it." you say, grinning at your girlfriend. she growls.

"fucker." she grumbles. you grin. "you're not goin' back to sleep until i'm done with you." she says, her hands coming up to grip your hips. you giggle.

"perfect." you say. sevika raises an eyebrow at you, and you shrug. "my plan worked!" you giggle.

she groans and flicks your forehead, before swooping in to press her lips against yours.

Perhaps, he thinks now, Joel should have been suspicious of what you and Sarah had been hiding the third time you were sleeping over during the week. After all, most parents had a no-school-nights rule, and you were always quite skittish around him when he asked you questions. You also never responded well to him asking to speak to your parents, insisting that he didn’t.

But in his defence, he didn’t have a no-school-nights rule, so he figured that maybe, your parents didn’t either. It wasn’t a terrible assumption to make, although he’d given up on speaking to your parents pretty easily.

You and Sarah always got up on time for school, and you didn’t cause much trouble. Besides stocking up on some of your preferred snacks, you hadn’t had much of an impact on the Miller household, you actually blended in so well that it was like you were always there.

It was on the now sixth time of you staying at the Miller residence during the week that Joel was really starting to get suspicious. Over the course of the past three weeks, you had spent days and nights at his and Sarah’s, without so much of a word from your parents. Joel knew that he wouldn’t be all too happy if his daughter was out of the house for so long, but what could he do? Hell, even Sarah got defensive over him trying to talk about your parents.

The seventh time, he couldn’t keep quiet.

“Hey, kids?” He called up the stairs, having seen your shoes stored away neatly by the door. It was usually around dinner that Sarah begged for you to be allowed to stay the night, and that time was fast approaching. Joel figured it was best to nip this in the bud.

“What is it, dad?” Sarah yelled back, and Joel rolled his eyes at the attitude she was already showing. He resisted the urge to do that annoying parent thing, where they just didn’t answer your reply after they yelled you first.

“Come on down here, the both of you!” He responded after a moment of hesitation, hearing the vague sound of the two of you sharing hushed whispers. Joel moved on into the living room when he heard the steps coming down the hallway, the two of you finally descending the stairs when he had taken a seat on the sofa.

Sarah looked nervous, though you looked far more so, with trembling hands that you wrapped tightly around the straps of your backpack, already worn on your back. “Dad?” Sarah asked, after he hadn’t spoken for more than a moment of the two girls standing in the room.

Joel sighed, nodding his head to the couch and waiting for you both to sit down before he spoke again. “Listen, I think we need to have a talk.” He began, frowning when Sarah immediately cut him off from saying anything else.

“Dad, are you being serious?” She asked, eyes wide and defensive, and her sudden alarm wasn’t improving your nerves, either, and you were looking more anxious by the second. The last thing you wanted was for Sarah to get into trouble for you. “You’re being unreasonable! She needs to stay over here—”

Joel decided to play at Sarah’s own game, holding a stern look on his face as he cut her off. “Sarah, that’s enough. I ain’t said a word, just yet, calm yourself down.” He told her, not liking the frown she held on her expression. Joel turned his gaze to you, softening his expression when you shrunk under his gaze. “Now you two listen to me, alright? I don’t mind you stayin’ here. Can stay as many nights as you please, but god, kiddo, are your parents really alright with that?”

Sarah moved as if she was going to jump in, save you from speaking, but Joel fixed her with the strict dad-look, and she sat back, looking towards you with an apologetic gaze.

“Yeah, they’re—they don’t mind it, one bit. But I can go back, I don’t mean to be overstayin’ my welcome.” You rambled on, giving Sarah an urgent look as she opened her mouth to oppose your words, causing her to move her glare over to her dad.

“And the reason you have to stay here?” Joel asked after a moment, almost hesitantly. But if there was something more going on, he had to know about it. He was the parent here, and it was his job to look after the people under his roof.

You practically withered under the combination of his look and his question, clutching your bag straps tightly, like you were ready to head off with a moment’s notice.

“It’s nothin’, Mr. Miller, we just like hangin’ over here. Your place is much nicer than mine, right Sarah?” You looked to her pleadingly, and Joel’s suspicion only grew when Sarah nodded painfully quickly, confirming your words.

He didn’t believe you, not for a second, but decided to let the two of you off the hook.

It was the eighth time that Joel knew.

He felt sick to his stomach for not picking up on it before, for not actively trying to find out what was wrong when he knew something wasn’t quite right. For a moment, he also became angry with his own daughter, for not telling him.

The incessant knocking on the door came late that night, and given it was close to 9PM and dark out, Joel wondered who the hell would be coming to his house. It couldn’t have been Tommy — he would never knock, so Joel truly had no idea.

When he opened the door, he certainly didn’t expect to be met with you, backpack slung over your shoulders, your eyes squinting through the rain that was coming down heavy.

“Hi, Mr. Miller.” You greeted, shakily, and he didn’t miss the tremor in your tone as he ushered you inside out of the cold rain. You tried not to look too nervous under his scrutiny, tried to remain brave and nonchalant as he closed the door after you. “I’m really sorry, but could I stay over here tonight?” You asked him then, and Joel could’ve sworn he heard his own heart break at your voice.

“Jesus Christ,” He said, eyes wide as he took you in, soaked to the bone, your eyes shining with something that wasn’t from the weather. “Of course you can, kiddo, c’mon, let’s get you dried off.”

Whilst you took your shoes off, aiming not to traipse wet footsteps all throughout their house, Joel shouted up to Sarah to bring some towels. She didn’t hesitate given the urgency in his tone.

“What happened?” Sarah asked desperately as Joel took the towels from her hands to wrap them around you as you shivered, turning to look at Sarah with a nervous smile.

Joel didn’t miss the way you nervously looked in his direction, and busied himself taking the school bag from your hand and placing it down in the hallway. “Just got into a fight with my parents, ‘s’all.” You said, clearly downplaying whatever had gone on in your household. Joel’s attention was caught, that was for certain, and now he regretted every letting you go back to your own house, especially when you so often looked reluctant to leave.

Sarah looked towards Joel, much like you had, before she turned back to you, where you held the towel around your shoulders tighter. “Was it about you stayin’ over?”

You shook your head. “No, didn’t make my bed this morning.” You told her, not seeing the way Joel’s face fell. He couldn’t imagine telling Sarah off for something so badly that she left home late evening, in the pouring rain, let alone over an unmade bed.

“Kiddo,” Joel sighed, placing a hand against your shoulder, a look of slight anguish on his expression. “The two of you should’ve told me what was really goin’ on. You could’ve stayed as long as you liked.”

You frowned, your eyes still teary as you looked at your best friend’s dad, “Didn’t wanna keep botherin’ you.”

“You’re not a bother,” He said firmly, “Now c’mon, let’s get you into some dry clothes. You eaten?” At the shake of your head, his frown deepened further, but he nodded. “Then we’ll get you some food, alright?”

He let Sarah take you upstairs, off to borrow some spare clothes, and he cooked whilst you changed, just hearing the faint sounds of your quiet conversation with Sarah. He felt bad, not being the greatest cook, but he figured even shitty pre-packaged macaroni cheese would be alright with you. In fact, he often found that when you and Sarah had sleepovers, his supply of mac n’ cheese depleted.

You sat on the couch when Joel brought you a bowl of macaroni cheese, something unsettled in your eyes, but you smiled faintly at him.

“Now, you listen to me, alright? Anythin’ happens, and I mean anything, you can come here. Don’t even need to ask.” He said to you firmly, pretending he didn’t see the wobble to your lip that you hid behind your bowl.

“Thanks, dad.” Sarah said softly, responding for you, because she knew you better than you knew yourself. She sat between you and her dad, leaning her head against your shoulder.

“‘Course. But hey, if you’re gonna be stayin’ more often, you drink coffee in the morning?” Joel asked, bringing some lightness back to the conversation, his chosen topic coaxing a snicker from you as Sarah groaned, sick of her dad’s coffee addiction.

“That stuff’s gonna give you a heart attack, you know.” She said matter-of-factly, raising her eyebrows at her dad.

“Milk and two sugars,” You responded, the tremble in your voice replaced with a tinge of amusement, and Joel laughed with you at the sigh of annoyance Sarah let out.
