In 2017 When the DUP aligned with the Conservative Party, I had to explain to all my English friends why that was such a horrible, bad thing.
They’d never heard of the DUP, or Arlene Foster.
At least half of them had never heard of Stormont.
At least half of them had never heard of Oliver Cromwell.
Not one of them knew the history of The Troubles, or what the Easter Rising was. They had no clue how far back this all went, why it had happened, or why ‘one day the people in Northern Ireland suddenly went crazy and killing English people.’
Quite a few of them asked me ‘who Sinn FĂ©in is and why is she in the news so much?’
Some of them had never heard of the ‘Irish tea-sock’  (butchering the word Taoiseach).
‘But isn’t colonisation a good thing? Look how much good we did for India, Africa and Jamaica.’ -- literal question I received in one of my rants about English colonisation of IrelandÂ đŸ€Ź
I’ve even met a few English people who weren’t aware there are two Irelands (ROI and NI).
I was initially enraged at how little they knew, but literally some of them had never once learnt about British colonisation as a bad thing at all, and it never occurred to them that Ireland was once an independent Island that had been overtaken by the British. The only time Irish (Northern or Republic) news is discussed here is when it specifically interacts with English politics.
The English education system is absolutely appalling.

If you were to ask me why I hope someday that all countries have free and democratic political systems, I would say it is because I think those systems produce better outcomes, are more likely to contribute to human flourishing, and reflect values like equality that I prize. But in my heart of hearts, there is another, secret reason: I love reading about the weird fucked up political parties in different countries on Wikipedia.

The Psalter of St Columba is a 6th century manuscript thought to be the first book written in Ireland.
The story goes that the manuscript was secretly copied by St Columba (Colum Cille) from a book he was lent, and St Finnian of Movilla, the lender of the original, claimed the copy should be returned to him as well. The Irish King Diamait judged that Finnian was in the right, which has been cited as the first instance of copyright law. The decision was so controversial it sparked a battle, and Columba was exiled to the island of Iona.
While the story may be apocryphal, the book became a holy relic in the keeping of Clan O'Donnell, who in the 11th century constructed an elaborate silver cumdach (book reliquary) to house it, and a tradition arose of carrying it three times around the O'Donnell warriors before a battle, gaining it the name "Cathach" or "Battler". It remained the property of the O'Donnells until 1843, when Sir Richard O'Donel entrusted it to the Royal Irish Academy.

Rory Carroll and Sam Jones at The Guardian:
Ireland, Spain and Norway have announced they will formally recognise a Palestinian state on 28 May, triggering an immediate response from Israel, which recalled its ambassadors from Dublin and Oslo. The Irish, Spanish and Norwegian governments made the long-awaited announcements in coordinated moves on Wednesday morning that they said were intended to support a two-state solution and foster peace in the Middle East.
“We are going to recognise Palestine for many reasons and we can sum that up in three words – peace, justice and consistency,” Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, told the parliament in Madrid, earning applause. “We have to make sure that the two-state solution is respected and there must be mutual guarantees of security.” Ireland’s taoiseach, Simon Harris, said Palestine had a legitimate right to statehood. “It is a statement of unequivocal support for a two-state solution, the only credible path to peace and security for Israel, for Palestine and for their peoples,” he told a press conference in Dublin. “I’m confident that further countries will join us in taking this important step in the coming weeks.” In Oslo, Norway’s prime minister, Jonas Gahr Stþre, said there could not be peace in the Middle East without recognition, and that Norway would regard Palestine as an independent state “with all the rights and obligations that entails”.
Israel launched a swift diplomatic counteroffensive to try to deter other European countries such as Slovenia and Malta that have signalled a willingness to recognise Palestine. The foreign minister, Israel Katz, ordered his ambassadors in Dublin and Oslo to return immediately for “urgent consultations” and promised further measures. He accused Ireland and Norway of sending a message that “terrorism pays”, a reference to the Hamas attacks of 7 October that triggered the war in Gaza. Recognition would impede efforts to return hostages held in Gaza and made a ceasefire less likely by “rewarding the jihadists of Hamas and Iran”, Katz said. He also threatened to recall Israel’s ambassador to Spain. Israel’s foreign ministry on Tuesday warned Ireland it risked becoming a “pawn in the hands of Hamas” and would fuel “more terrorism, instability in the region and jeopardise any prospects for peace”. The developments came amid a grinding seven-month war in Gaza that has sparked global calls for a ceasefire and lasting solution for peace in the region, as well as the pursuit of arrest warrants on war crimes charges by the international criminal court.
3 European Union members-- Norway, Spain, and Ireland-- will recognize the State of Palestine as part of the two-state solution. In 2014, Sweden was the first EU nation to recognize Palestinian statehood as a current EU member.
Several current members of the EU, such as Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia, have recognized the State of Palestine prior to joining the EU.
As a result of the recognition of Palestine by Ireland and Norway, the Israel Apartheid State recalled its ambassadors in protest.
