I kinda feel we didn’t much of raph and splinter’s relationship in 03 thoughts?
Hmm, I suppose that's fair. I've heard it said that 03 isn't a very character-driven story, and I agree we don't see as many character dynamics or arcs explored as we could have.
Below the cut are the pieces of Raph and Splinter's relationship I've pieced together for myself.
Splinter's bio on Raph in Tales from the Sewer presents this interesting duality in Splinter's perception of him. He's a difficult child but just a kid. He trains the most but he's a difficult student. He makes poor decisions but Splinter has the utmost faith in his abilities. As both father and teacher, Splinter sometimes struggles to approach his sons and their needs in the appropriate role, especially when it comes to Raph.
For example, his hands-off approach to Raph's rage, or what I usually think of as emotional dysregulation (either as a product of neurodivergence or his young age). When Raph nearly maims Mikey during a rage attack/dissociative episode (see S1E4 "Meet Casey Jones") Splinter doesn't try to stop Raph or separate him and Mikey, although he very well could have. He doesn't step in until after Leo and Donny have broken up the fight. Despite addressing Raph parentally, he comes at the issue like a teacher offering those ninja master-esque nuggets of wisdom about rage being a monster and a true warrior is balanced in all things. I think he wants to come across sympathetically (gentle voice, physical contact, calling Raph "my son") but there is a sense of disappointment and unmet expectations in what he says.
In the aforementioned bio, Splinter notes that of all the turtles, Raph trains the longest and hardest. He likely equates length of training with dedication to ninjutsu and assumes that because Raph exhibits these things he should be something he isn't: more disciplined less angry. Perhaps he compares Raph to Leo who apparently trains less but fits Splinter's prototype of a good ninja. Speaking of Leo, later in the same episode we see Splinter chastise Mikey and Donny for interrupting Leo's practice and tell Leo to keep practicing his split kick without offering any advice on how to get it right.
We see this idea directed to Raph in Splinter's comment about a true warrior finding balance in all things. It's not particularly informative. This is his version of telling Raph to keep practicing but it's not what Raph needs at this moment, hot off such an overwhelming experience. So instead of reading this as the patient, parental advice I think Splinter intends it to be, Raph's body language screams chastised. He doesn't meet Splinter's eyes and he runs away. Raph (like all of the brothers) wants Splinter's approval and he's devastated to have fallen short in this instance. Then Splinter doesn't let Mikey follow after Raph. And yeah, Raph likely needed that space but it's this hands-off approach, again. Another example comes from the one of Raph's diary entries in the Raphael: Collector Book. He talks about Splinter assigning him more meditation exercises to help him control his emotions and temper. Perhaps training, space, meditation, and nuggets of wisdom are effective tools for Splinter to self-regulate his emotions, but Splinter is also an adult. Raph needs more guidance and practical advice at this point in his life that Splinter isn't providing. The tools aren't enough, he needs to be taught how to use them.
So. Raph responds in a couple ways to Splinter's hands-off, more-teacher-than-father approach. The first is to train harder, and longer, and learn everything he can about ninjutsu. If Master Splinter says becoming a true warrior will help him find emotional balance then he's going to try his hardest to become one. When he meets Casey, he shares with him verbatim the true warrior line but confesses to Casey he's not sure how hot-heads like them are supposed to do that. He still takes the advice to heart even if it's not helpful or he doesn't understand it because he wants to please and obey his father. The collector's book shows us that Raph has taken the time to learn aspects of ninjutsu that are confusing, uninteresting, and even inaccessible to him. This book contains a lot of technical information about ninjutsu techniques and teachings. It presents Raph as even more of ninja nerd than Leo! Some of this stuff appeals to his interests, for sure; the different punching techniques for instance. Some of it, he seems to have only learned to gain Splinter's approval. He has a detailed spread on hand signs that he explicitly finds too mystical and confusing, claims it took forever to learn, and he can't even use it as a three-fingered being, but he hopes Splinter will be impressed with him.
Second, he goes behind Splinter's back. If there's something he wants or needs and he thinks Splinter won't approve of it, he'll take it for himself. Such as going to the surface when he needs space or bringing his brothers to the surface when he thinks there's something important they need to do. This feels, to me, like access thievery, which is the concept (typically applied to disabled/neurodivergent folks) of taking what one needs (time, space, resources) without asking for permission or waiting to be offered it (because you likely won't be). Again in the collector's book, Raph exhibits an awareness of his faults and a self-compassionate recognition that he's just a teen. Splinter know this too but has shown that he can't always offer what Raph needs or won't give him it in some cases (forbids them from going to the surface). So Raph has developed a willingness to take what he needs for himself and sneak around Splinter to avoid the disapproval he fears.
All that aside, I think they're very similar in their fierce love and devotion to family and the ways it can drive them to anger, fear, hatred, and vengeance. There are traits Raph inherited from Splinter they bond over, too. They're both competitive. The Battle Nexus Tournament isn't their thing but we see them playing pokey in "Dragons Rising." I love the idea that they play a lot of games together! They have a similar sense of humility. They know they're skilled but they're more likely hang back and play support while their other family members take the spotlight than boast. Unless it's really personal, then they'll take over, like how Splinter's quest for vengeance guides them in Exodus and Raph's desire to help Casey leads the brothers to sneak out with him in "Meet Casey Jones." I think, they have a similar sense of humor, too. Raph has this silly line in the collector's book about Splinter being proud he used his head, that is, like a battering ram, and you cannot tell me Splinter wouldn't chuckle at that.

your name (tumblr name, whatever) is really cool, is there a meaning behind it? :0
Yep! It's my name in practice, and it translates roughly to "single-hearted." I gave the name to one of the dragons in my book, Flight's End.

Ok so lemme yap abt this rq ooc bc I do feel like there’s a lot to be said.
(This is from the pov of the book/movie, not the musical)
It almost immediately comes down to Paul, Bob, and Randy, the three main Socs in the book (I think)
Randy is eliminated pretty quickly, because he changed. He apologized to Pony, and Pony himself says that he can see Randy as much more than just a Soc. In a way, Randy is like the Soc version of Pony, their two people, stuck on their side of town. Trying to prove they’re not like their stereotypes say they are. They want to go out, to escape the confines of the roles they were assigned to without choice since birth. They both also have a heart and a brain. Randy told Bob that he was going too far at the fountain, and I hardly doubt he was the one beating up Johnny, Idk if Randy was there the night Johnny was jumped, but if he was, he probably didn’t do most of the damage. Just a bystander.
Paul is also eliminated pretty quickly, just because in the book we barely get any info on him. In the musical, sure he jumped Pony (I think? I haven’t seen the musical so idk) But from what I’ve seen online, Paul is js Darry’s slightly-salty-but-still-in-love ex. Paul’s also like, 20. So why would a 20 year old purposely bully a literal fourteen year old. Y’know? Like, Bob and Randy are 17 - 18, they’re gonna be bitter and take advantage of those smaller than them. 100% Paul saw what was going on in Tulsa with the socs during the book and went “wtf are y’all doin’, like don’t u have better things to do?? I know I sure do.” (The “better things” were staring at old pictures of him and Darry and sobbing over them)
Bob, however, given the shape Johnny was in after getting jumped. There’s a possibility Bob had the intent to kill Johnny that night. Pony said they had “threatened him with everything under the sun” Johnny was scared of dying, they probably told him that they were going to kill him. In that moment Johnny most likely believed them. He jumped Pony for literally no reason, other than for kicks. Pony’s a freaking freshman, Bob’s abt to go to college. Face it, Bob’s not just “a bully” or, “a bad guy”. No, he’s an extremely jealous and possessive boyfriend, has a drinking problem and is a violent drunk. Has jumped/beaten kids with the possible intent to kill them multiple times. Beat Johnny so bad his entire personality was altered. Tried to drown a little kid for simply talking to his girlfriend. (You cannot tell me Bob was just “trying to teach Pony a lesson”, no. He had the intent to kill him) and much more. Who knows what he did pre-canon? The socs can be mean, but Bob? Bob is cruel.
The final verdict:
Randy’s alright in the end, that doesn’t take back everything he’s done/may have done. But at least he’s trying to change.
Paul is a 20 year-old man mourning the loss of his bf, he’s mean bc he’s salty and in love and mad at himself.
But Bob has the opportunities to be a good person, but he chooses to be a monster out of his own selfishness and greed. (“Bob was not a jealous man” MY ASS)
so this turned out to be a rant… oops

Ok, i feel like after this ep, that, we really get to see who Style is.
We know he's very flirty and outgoing and that once he's put his mind to something, he's going to get from Point A to Point B no matter what stands in between him. We also know he's very loyal. And also that he's a bit of a goofball.
But in today's episode, we saw that he can be serious (and we have seen it before, just not to this extent). He talks to Fadel after the reveal and comforts him and solidifies, with Fadel, that he's not leaving him. And I feel that that is who Style is as a whole.
And that brings me to my other point. Imagine the fics coming out from this ep. Like I feel we as fandom are sleeping on this absolutely loyal to no ends, Style. Style is willing to do anything for Fadel.
Yes! So, I know I mentioned somewhere that last episode felt like they were walking back Style's characterization a bit but this episode cemented it back in place for me. He is LOYAL, ok? And he LOVES with his whole ASS. lmao like his Dad said, he talks a big game but when he loves, he goes all out, and he proves that over and over again. Especially in this episode.
Now they did some dumb shit this episode that was obviously supposed to be comedic or whatever, but the fact that Style went to Keen's room knowing that Keen knew him and shot at him was ballsy, and it was HIS idea. He wanted to get back at Keen for Fadel, but also for himself. He didn't have to do that. He did it because he thought it was the fastest way to get information. (was it dumb? Yes. But he tried lol)
And the way he just kneeled there and bided his time???? Like I know we all pick on him for his ADHD having antics, but he really did a good job this episode in being more serious and waiting until the perfect moment to strike and get the gun away from Keen. I was proud of him!!! Guys, I was so proud! Like I also make fun of him for his ridiculousness, but I am so happy that he proved to be somewhat competent in that moment. Because I so believe that he has the capacity to be serious and help when needed. He isn't just a pretty face and the comedic relief. He has another side of him, ok?? lol And I loved that he kicked Keen in the chest, because, yeah! Fuck you, KEEN!!!
As for the final scene with him and Fadel. God. I have so many feelings. Because you know that at least a part of Style was sad for himself too. Like he is obviously hurting for Fadel because he is DEVESTATED by the revelation that his ex was murderered because of him, but I think Style would also feel a little bit of a sting, because he is upset over his ex. He's only human. BUT the loyal part WON OUT. He marched out there and comforted his man and made sure he knew that Style isn't going anywhere. That he knew who and what he was weeks/months ago and still loves him anyways. He is in it for the long haul. And he won't be frightened away by Fadel or Fadel's past. Because he LOVES WHO FADEL IS. Point blank period. And no amount of Fadel trying to push him away to save him is going to change.
Style doesn't WANT TO BE SAVED. At least, not from Fadel.
And Fadel needs someone like Style, because he needs someone to tell him that he is loved unconditionally. Because yeah, his ex was killed, but he may have also been afraid before he died, if Fadel told him the truth. To me it seems that Fadel DID tell him and that's why he didn't go after him or question him being ghosted.

HELLLLLOOOOOOO
I SAID A LOT IN MY OTHER ASK BUT I FORGOT TO MENTION MY APPERCIATION OF HOW YOU WRITE THE READER!! They're so well written in a way that makes it easy to insert one's self into their position without being broken from immersion! (*^ー^)ノ♪ It's really nice to see!!!
OKAY, THIS IS A BIT SELF-INDULGENT, BUT HEY, THIS IS X READER, AND IT’S RARE FOR ME TO FIND A CHARACTER THAT COMES FROM A PLACE WITH REP OF MY CULTURE, SO I’M GONNA HAPPILY DELUDE MYSELF A BIT WITH THE SMALL THINGS IN THE CULTURE. (/_;)/~~
But imagine Akademiya!Dottore and reader experiencing daily life in Sumeru together? Or at least the Reader dragging him around the city for dates and breaks!!!
• Like going to the market area, bargaining with merchants and sellers to try to lower the prices of items. Do you think Zandik would be the type to bargain? Especially if it’s something he needs for his tinkering experiments? Or does he leave it to the Reader?
• Or maybe the Reader dragging him to clothing shops, trying to get him to try on several traditional outfits, only to not buy anything because it’s too expensive anyway. But that’s alright because now the Reader has had the lovely experience of seeing Zandik in all those outfits. (Though I suppose, with that Fatui income Pantalone please spare me some extra change in current times, they could splurge a little on outfits for themselves, Zandik, and even the segments!)
• Ohhhh, and the cuisine too??? \(_ _) All that delicious, mouthwatering spicy food! The sweet shops? The street food? Just the Reader and Zandik walking through the streets of the city, with the Reader convincing Zandik to try all the sweet snacks being sold by street vendors. Watching it be made in real time (The Reader is probably broke at this point, but it’s fine because FOOD.)
• And this one is more niche—and a bit of a joke (but also my reality)—but imagine making chai (tea) like five times a day. Probably unhealthy if the reader overloads it with sugar.
“Hey, wanna drink some chai, Zandik?”
“Didn’t you just make some two hours ago???”
(Tea-drinking might need to be cut back during current times for Fragile!Reader’s health because all that sugar probably wouldn’t bode well for their condition.)
• And during those walks through the streets, stopping to feed and play with the stray dogs and cats they come across! Zandik grumbling about how it’s a waste of time because they could’ve been back in their dorm working on reports or studies, yet still sneaking in a few pets for the stray cats.
I’m sure Fragile!Reader would miss these things. What used to be daily or weekly activities are now either no longer possible or something they no longer have the energy to do, leaving them yearning for the liveliness of their past. They could long for the food of that one street vendor but its been almost 500 years now, they're already long gone. They don't really have the strength to drag Dottore around anymore, and they can't even be outside for too long either. A reality they have to accept for now
OKAY BYE IMMA SCREAM
- 💀🎉 Anon
Despite it being a crucial part of obtaining a bunch of interesting and hard-to-get items, Akademiya Dottore's bargaining skills leave much to be desired. And it's not because he's necessarily bad, but because his delivery always comes out in an unfavorable way. It doesn't even have much to do with his reputation as the Outcast, after all, money is money to these vendors, but rather because he just comes off as blunt and sometimes even impatient (even unintentionally.) Always having an answer right after and lacking formalities... Thankfully he becomes much better at this as he grows older. Omega is an example of that.
Though Zandik only really bargained with items related to his experiments and curiosity. He usually just got the cheapest things for food and saved for other things, though you quickly made sure he got a balanced diet. Whenever you are chatting with a seller, he is just in the back, arms crossed and shooting huffy stares. you make sure to block the merchant's sight of him lest they get uneasy. Although he won't admit it, he's grateful for your help. Sometimes he ponders how good you are at getting people on their good side, and then he realizes he too is wrapped around your finger. (The truth of the matter is that he's not that good at talking to others.)
Zandik would never waste time heading into random shops - at least, that's what he told himself before you quite literally dragged him there. Poor guy just buries his face in his notes until you throw him into the dressing room. The old ladies there are asking when the date of the wedding is. Needless to say, it was mostly a one-and-done experience because being your dress-up doll is not what he signed up for, but you've burned the images into your mind already!
(For some reason, Pantalone seems to have a soft spot for you and will forward you Mora on some occasions, mostly to spite his fellow co-worker. It makes The Doctor fume not only because he's still waiting for approval on funding, but he doesn't appreciate the buddy-buddyness.)
I also like to imagine when fragile reader wakes up, they have quite a nice and surprisingly big wardrobe because Dottore and the segments have been slowly buying things they think you'd like over the course of a few centuries.
One thing about Zandik is that he loves the food of his country, refuses to admit it, and then gobbles it down directly contradicting himself!!! Reader always has to make sure to take some home for Zandik and remind him not to eat it all in one go because of their limited funds...
Dottore has been petting the strays since before he met you - even birds tended to flock around him. Not that he told you that of course. He doesn't want to seem... soft, he thinks as a crowd of kitties are looking at him expectantly.
(Not niche at all for me because I have been drinking at least one or two cups of tea every day for years since I was a kid. Should I be worried.)
Technically, Zandik isn't in a position to criticize you considering his consumption of coffee during all-nighters, and he too adds sugar to his... but that won't stop him from confiscating the tea bags if he needs to. Although most of the time he just takes you up on your offer, and you sip it together while doing some work. And he does enjoy the moments it brings, mostly in the morning when it's silent save for the sipping.
Fragile reader would undoubtedly cry a bit before accepting the reality they now face. Everything they once loved was now gone or nigh impossible, everything except Dottore of course. But that's why he does his best to liven your life up a bit - he'll make sure his agents cook the food you miss even if it's not comparable, he'll let you point to places and gently pull him, unresisting. The past may be long gone, but he'll make sure the future is something you'll be able to enjoy to the fullest one day.

i know this is weird to ask but why isn't heart included in the petre trio?
going to be going forward with the assumption you are referring to the three in this post
They're not really... a trio? This is just the three I usually write about and what I usually write them as; I just don't write about Heart pet regressing much.
As for why I don't write Heart petre... I'm just not interested in making that, especially for this fandom. I don't really jive with most common fanon characterizations of Heart, as well as the more comfortable cute depictions of petre [for Heart], so I worry anyone who has asked for Heart petre will be sorely disappointed by what I'd Actually like to write.
I don't want to cause any type of drama, so I don't want to make any of that public. [if you DO really want to hear about them, dm me!!! I looooveee to yammer :-)]

[Okay... one Heart hc. . . I think he'd age regresses, not pet regresses :-) [not to fall into every single shitty [Ouwww heart is a babbyyyy] stupid fandom take HAHA]

I'm starting to think us continuously seeing Macaque associated with cores of power shaped like a heart and all this weird recent focus on magic and its physical form once again tied to him means those previous scenes secretly meant something...I was always kinda waiting for a reveal on it anyways.
yes it is certainly fascinating 👀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
stealing MK’s magic core by literally punching through his chest!!!
Tumblr media
using the shadow lantern to show MK’s inner thoughts and perspective of himself. the heart of his insecurities one might say 😌
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LBD placing her own magic deep inside his chest in order to have better control on Macky. pretty sure this just solidifies that ppl’s magic cores in the lmk universe reside in their chests where their heart is
so yeah 👀 quite the choice made my lmk for a monkey whose whole character is about being scorned and betrayed by the person he loved (taken romantic or platonic) and yet progressing into forgiveness and longing like 👀 ok sir
