Tyler Owens x Reader: The Storm Inside Your Mind
Request: Anonymous said: "tyler x reader with panic attacks"
Word count: 2k
Warnings: panic attack tw
A/N: obviously stole some of Kate's trauma for this one... I feel like I've written a few fics where reader has panic attacks now, so sorry if this sounds repetitive at all. But as always, thank you all for the kind words, replies, and comments on my work. It's super encouraging and very appreciated!!
The team isnât chasing today. Instead, you set up the RV and some tents at a campsite, hoping to enjoy what little time you had left of tornado season.Â
Tyler gets a fire going while Boone and Dexter drag the camp chairs around it. Thereâs only half an hour or so left of daylight, and the crew decides sâmores will do just fine for dinner.Â
Boone makes a joke about sâmores meeting all his nutritional food group needs, everyone laughs. Tyler settles into the chair beside you, his knee gently grazing against yours to catch your attention.Â
When you look at him, he winks. A silent toss of affection. A sweet reminder that itâs you and him, even amongst the chaos of all your friends.Â
The sun sets, casting a thousand shades of pinks and purples through the sky. Itâs mesmerizingâ the evening is perfect.Â
Itâs amazing how quickly things can fall apart.
All it takes is one noteâÂ
Dani grabs their guitar and begins strumming softly to no tune in particular. Then Boone shouts out a song request that makes your breath catch. You try to be subtle, but you notice Tylerâs eyes lingering on you, because he can read you just as well as he can read any storm.Â
You offer him the best, most reassuring smile that you canâ and it must be good enough, because he looks back towards the fire.Â
You pick at the skin around your nails, because itâs always been a good distraction. But even that isnât enough when Dani plays the first noteâÂ
âTook my love and I took it down,â they sing softly.Â
And then suddenly, you canât breathe. All you can hear is your best friend asking you to turn up the volume to her favorite song when it had come on the radio only minutes before everything had gone so, so wrong.Â
Normally, you can talk yourself down from these moments, you can practice all the grounding exercises your therapist taught you and move on. But you feel the sense of panic creeping up your throat and itâs strong and fast. You donât think you can deep breathe your way out of this one without anyone noticing.
In a rush, you stand up from your camp chair and mumble something incoherent about needing to go. Itâs not very subtle, but itâs all you can manage before stumbling into the RVâ aiming for the bathroom.Â
Tyler calls your name, but all you hear is the sound of your friend screaming it over the increasing winds as they reached for you.Â
From there it only gets worseâÂ
It comes in wavesâ memories of Fleetwood Mac still playing from the radio while you sat in the car and frantically tried to decide which way to runâ the realization that no matter where you went, the tornado was going to consume youâ knowing that the overpass was the worst place to go, but your alternative was remaining out in the open. Your name tumbling from your friend's lips as she begged you to help pull her up the ramp because her shoes kept slipping. The sound of her scream when the chunk of debris sent her flying into the storm. You losing sight of her body after only a secondâÂ
The bathroom door rattles. âY/N?â Tyler calls with a knock. âWhat happened?â
âWhat happened?â your friendâs dad had asked with tears spilling down his cheeks after the officer told them that their daughter was dead. âWhat the hell happened?âÂ
âThereâs no storm,â you whisper to yourself. âThe skies are clearâ thereâs no storm.â
Tyler calls your name a second time and knocks harderâ the door rattles. You grip the edge of the sink and bite down harshly on your lip to keep yourself from screaming. Because despite the calm conditions outside, the storm inside your mind is hereâ itâs rattling the door and shaking the RVâ itâs creating dark clouds, and causing them swirling around in every corner of your bodyâ winds are flying through your stomach and your chest, the air is heavy, itâs harder to breatheâÂ
You put your hands over your ears and sink to the floor helplessly.Â
âY/N, answer me,â Tylerâs panickedâ you can hear it in his voice. âI swear to God, Iâm gonna kick this door downââ
You try to inhaleâ to tell him not to do thatâ that repairing a door will be expensive. But instead of finding your words, all you can do is choke out a desperate sob. The storm has stolen all your airâ itâs sucked it right from your lungsâŚÂ
Before you can try again, the entire bathroom shakes when the hinges on the door break loose with a bang. Tylerâs eyes land on youâ huddled on the floor, gasping for the breath you canât find.Â
Exceptâ itâs not Tyler. Itâs your friendâs dad. Heâs come to get youâ to kill you like you killed his daughter.Â
You attempt to push yourself backwards on the floor, but the bathroom is small and soon, you've only managed to wedge yourself between the toilet and the wall. You try to speak againâ to tell him how sorry you are for getting his daughter killedâ but you canât. Clutching desperately at your chest, you heave and heave, squeezing your eyes shut.Â
The storm inside your mind causes the clouds to start swirling around chaoticallyâÂ
The storm inside your mind rips trees right from the rootsâÂ
The storm inside your mind destroys everything in its pathâÂ
âBabyââ a familiar warm voice cuts through the fog. And then, suddenly, someone grips your knee, causing your entire body to seize.Â
âItâs me,â a gentle voice murmurs. "Hey, itâs me.â
Through your foggy haze, you recognize Tylerâs touchâ and when you open your eyes, you see him squatting down to get on your level.Â
But your kneesâ you open your mouth to say, except all that comes out is a gaspâ a plea for help.Â
âOkay, itâs okay. Look at me, baby,â he says. âItâs okayâ youâre okay.âÂ
âIâ canâtââ you gasp, your own hands flying up to grip his forearms for some sort of lifeline to reality. âI canâtâ breatheââÂ
âOkay, okay, okay,â he says. Heâs trying to stay calm, but you can hear the uneasiness in his voice. âWith me.Â
He gives a deep, methodical inhale before letting out a slow, intentional exhale. âJust do it with me. Slow, like this.âÂ
He continues, and you try to match his paceâ to breathe with him, but it feels like the storm has stolen your lungsâ ripped them right out of your chestâÂ
âTylerââ you beg, your voice hoarse. âI canâtââÂ
âCâmon, with me,â he repeats earnestly. Heâs looking at you with terror in his eyes, but you find comfort in their familiarity just the same. âWeâve done this before, you know how to do this.â
âIâ Iââ you stammer, but the words wonât form.Â
âShh, with me. Everythingâs okay. Iâm here. Weâre both okay,â he assures you. His gaze is just so tender and soft and careful while his thumb grazes your cheek.Â
âI- I canât-â you choke again, âPleaseââ
âShh-â he soothes. âLook at me, nothing else, just me.â
Your wide, desperate eyes meet his. You donât say anything, just shudder and gasp frantically. Â
âWith me,â he repeats.
Tyler slow and calming, in and out breathes. After a few seconds, you latch onto the sound, mimicking it, and then finally follow along.Â
âThere you go,â he whispers.
Your facial features slowly start to relax as youâre able to breathe properly. Without your loud, choking sobs, youâre able to hear your heartbeat pounding in your chest frantically. Â
âGood job,â Tyler sighs. âLook, itâs just you and me, weâre okay, we're both safeââÂ
But he canât even finish his sentence before you lean forward and reach for him. Tyler takes advantage of your gesture and quickly grips under your arms, yanking you from the corner and pulling you forward. He sits back on the floor, back resting against the door frame while he rests you on his lap. As soon as heâs settled, you wind your arms around his neckâ desperate and longing for some sort of comfort.Â
Strong, sturdy arms wrap around you as you hide your face into his chest. You breathe him in, letting his familiar scent wash over you. The sound of his heartbeat races in your ear (bum, bum, bum, bum). It reminds you that youâre both hereâ right now. Not stuck in an underpass, not chasing a tornado. But hereâ on the floor in the RV bathroom.Â
âItâs okay,â Tyler soothes. Upon feeling your shaky body pressed against his, he squeezes tighter. âItâs okay, baby. Iâm here, I got you.â
You melt against him in response, bunching the fabric of his shirt into your fist, trying to communicate just how badly you need him to hold you right now.Â
And thatâs exactly what he doesâ until you can finally breathe on your own again.Â
And then the wave of guilt comes.
Suddenly the realization of everything hit youâ what a basketcase youâve been, running off like that, having a meltdown in front of everyoneâ you probably scared the shit out of them. And then thereâs the doorâ broken right from the hinges.Â
Slowly, you pull back.Â
âAre you okay?â Tyler says before you can even open your mouth. He brushes the strands of loose hair from your face. Â
You exhale a deep, shuddering breath that you can feel down your entire body. âIâm okay,â you say, your voice raw.Â
âBaby, you donât have to run from me when youâre having a panic attack. Iâm here for you, you know that.â
âI know,â you whimper. âI knowâ Iâm so sorryâ I didnât mean to freak outââ
âShh. Hey, hey, hey. Itâs okay,â Tyler says. âYou donât have to apologize. I justâ I want you to come to me when youâre struggling. I want to be able to help you.â
âI justââ you start, but you stop when you notice how choked up your voice sounds. You take a slow breath. âI can't think clearly when they come. All I could think about was getting away. I didn't want to scare youâ I wanted to prove to you that I was doing betterâ that I wasnât going to freak out all the time. But itââÂ
As soon as you feel the tears burning behind your eyes, you dig the heels of your palms into them frustratedly, like you were physically trying to push them away.Â
âIt was the music. That was her favorite song.â You didnât even have to say your friendâs name for Tyler to know what you were talking about. âI just⌠I heard that first note and I panickedâ I just felt like I had to get away.âÂ
Tyler nodded in understanding. âYou donât have to hide from me,â he whispered. âNext time, you drag me to the bathroom with you and weâll get through it together, okay? I think thatâll save us many doors in the future.â
You exhale a puff of air, your best attempt at laughter.Â
âIâm just sorry you have to deal with me all the time. You have enough on your plate,â you groan, rubbing your tired eyes.Â
Tyler sighs. âBaby, I drive around and chase tornadoesâ shoot some fireworks into the air when Iâm really feelinâ it. I think I can handle being there for you on top of that,â he says. âI love you. And I want you to be okay, always. Thatâs all Iâll ever want.â
Nodding slowly, you lean forward and rest your forehead on Tylerâs chest.Â
Strong, warm arms anchor you to safety. You hold on to Tylerâ letting the sound of his heartbeat (bum, bum, bum, bum) block out any noise from the raging storms inside your mind.Â

THE HAT RULE, t. owens
word count | 1.7k words
pairings | tyler owens x meteorologist!fem!reader
summary | where tyler owens decides to show the reader what the hat rule is.Â
warnings | MINORS DNI!! 18+ ONLY!! HEAVY smut! reader doesnât know the hat rule. not proofread. lowercase intended.Â
a/n | first of all, sorry for disappearing, i've had NO motivation to write on here, but i saw twisters yesterday and seeing glen powell in a cowboy hat changed me as a person, and also gave me motivation to write. iâve never written a full smut so i apologize if this sucks, i've stepped out of my comfort zone for this one.
the first time you had ever encountered a tornado was a memory you were sure to never forget. growing up in new york meant rain and snow but no tornadoes. so when traveling to nebraska on a field trip in high school, you were unprepared when the sirens sounded, sending everyone into a frenzy. you had watched as the rain pelted from the sky, a funnel forming up above. you were mesmerized as your teacher pulled you to safety, a sort of thrill tearing through your body. from that moment on, you knew what you wanted to do. you went to college for meteorology, graduating near top of your class before going onto to work at a local news station. but it never quite settled the feeling that something was missing, until you stumbled across tyler owensâ youtube channel.Â
tyler owens had become a sensation, a daredevil who did more than just chase the storms, he rode into them. and that seemed to heighten that need of a thrill. so, you hit him up and to your surprise, he replied. and what had started out as a week off of work to storm chase with the daredevil, turned to going part time at your job and joining him on the road.
that was a season ago, and now you were sat at a dingy bar, sipping a beer with tyler and the team. the man himself was sat on the stool next to you, nursing his own beer and listening to lily speak. you ignored the slight butterflies that entered your stomach as he laughed. you had learned to never mix work and love, but something about tyler had you questioning that lesson. he looked mighty fine in his blue jeans and button up, supporting a cowboyâs hat on his head. you noticed your beer was gone, standing up you turned to your crew.
âi'm gonna get another beer, can i get anyone anything?â noâs were murmured around the group except for one.
âi could use another, how âbout i come with ya?â you shrugged, tyler getting up to walk with you. lily let out a low whistle, stopping at your glare.Â
âbe my guest.â you two walked over to the bar top, signaling the busy bartender. âcan we get two more, when you get a sec?â the bartender nodded, going to make a few drinks before he could grab their bottles.Â
âso, miss city girl, how you likinâ riding with us? ready to go back to the big apple yet?â tyler questioned, turning to look down at you slightly. damn the height difference.
âdonât think youâre getting rid of me that quick, i have a lot more storm chasing left in me, cowboy.â you winked, tyler laughing. you debated for just a moment before reaching up and taking the cowboy hat from his head.
âthe hell you think youâre doing?â tyler questioned as you placed the hat on your own head, admiring your reflection on your phone.
âyou wear this hat all the damn time, i just wanted to see if there was something special about it? maybe it has some magical powers or something.â the bartender came back around, beer bottles in hand. you thanked him, handing him some cash before turning back to tyler, who had an odd look in his eye. you quickly took off the hat, worried you had pissed him. you went to hand it back to him, when tyler shook his head:
âkeep it on, it suits you.â tyler picked up his beer, beginning back to the table. the comment caused a light blush to dust your cheeks. shaking your head, you hoped it didn't show too much as you followed him back. you sat in your seat, confused by the odd looks you received from the crew. nobody said anything about the hat as the night went on, but that didnât stop the odd looks.
by last call, it was you and tyler left of the crew. thankfully the bar was across the street from the motel, tyler paying the tab much to your protest, before setting off back to the motel. you had forgotten you still wore tylerâs hat upon your head, only remembering when you went to brush your hair from your eyes, your hand bumping the rim. âhey, do you know why everyone kept giving me weird looks after i put your hat on? and why boone and dani wouldnât stop snickering?â tyler looked over to you as you climbed the stairs of the motel.
âyou don't know?â you shook your head in response, tyler holding a bewildered look. âyou don't know the hat rule?â
âthereâs a hat rule?â tyler stopped at his door, which neighbors yourâs and lilyâs. âwhat?â
âyou wear the hat, you ride the cowboy.â he deadpanned, your eyes widening and a heavy blush coating your cheeks.Â
âoh my god! i promise i wasnât trying to imply that or anything. not thereâs anything wrong with you, because youâreâ well youâre you, andââ you fumbled over your words, stopping mid sentence when tyler laughed.
âhey, it's fine. if you werenât trying to insinuate that, thatâs fine. but if you were, well, now's your chance. and iâd be more than happy to show you how that rule works.â tyler walked closer, a minimal amount of space between you, just enough to allow you to choose whether you close that gap or leave.Â
you stood there for a moment, stunned at his offer. and without much thought, you closed the gap, hands going to grip his face and pull him closer to you. his hands moved to your hips, fingers digging into the fabric of your shorts. the kiss was feverish, all unspoken feelings surfacing. tyler began to pull away much to your dismay, one hand leaving your hip to fish out his keys from his pocket as he moved his other arm to hold your waist. he unlocked the door with ease, pulling you inside and shutting the door before pushing you up against it, the hat falling as he did so. he went to town on your neck, enticing soft moans and whimpers from your lips. the way he sucked at your neck and how he had previously handled you had conjured up a pool of wetness in your panties.Â
your arm wrapped around his neck, holding him to your throat, as your fingers tugged at his hair. he groaned against your skin, biting down ever so softly when you tugged on his hair. he gripped at your leg, pulling it up to give him better access to your cunt. he rubbed his clothed cock along you covered cunt, pleased with the moans that escaped your mouth.
âgod, keep moaning like that and i might have to take you right here.â you blushed once more, pulling tyler to meet your lips once more. you pushed off the door, lips still connected to tylerâs as you blindly pushed him back to the bed. his legs hit the edge of the bed, tyler breaking the kiss as he pulled off your shirt, both of you kicking off your shoes and socks before lips were reattached once more.Â
you pulled back, tyler unbutton his shirt as you began to work on his belt buckle. âwoah, easy, pretty girl. youâll get a taste, donât worry. the nightâs still young. but for now, i gotta show ya what happens when ya wear the hat.â tyler pulled off his shirt, walking to pick up the forgotten hat, placing it on your head. âthis stays on.â you nodded, eyes hooded as tyler pulled your shorts and panties down. âyouâre even more perfect than i had imagined.â before you could question him, tyler pulled his jeans off, his boxers next as his cock sprung up. tossing them to the side tyler pulled you onto his lap as he sat on the edge of the bed, âyou sure âbout this? i donât have any condoms.â tyler asked, different from how he just was. you nodded, kissing him softly.
âiâm on the pill, and i trust you.â tyler nodded, holding over his cock as he slowly guided it along your pussy. you held yourself up as tylerâs thumb rubbing your clit, enjoying your whimpers. âplease, tyler.â you begged, tyler aligning his cock with your entrance before guiding you down. you hand went your hat as your head rested on tylerâs shoulder, almost pornographic moans escaping from your lips. âoh my god.â he slowly eased himself into you, whispering praises as he did so.
âgod, feels like you were made for me.â your cunt hugged his cock beautifully. when his cock was fully in, he allowed you to get used to the stretch, âtell me when you're ready.â you stilled for a moment, adjusting to his size. you kissed and sucked on his neck, slowly beginning to rock your hips. âfuck, letâs get this off of ya.â tylerâs hands skillfully unclipped your bra, tossing it to the side, fingers ghosting over your perky nipples. you pulled off his shoulder, giving him better access to your tits. âyouâre fuckinâ beautiful, darlinâ.â tyler attached his mouth to one of your nipples, enticing a soft moan. you continued to ride him, hips moving faster as you chased your incoming orgasm. your left hand gripped tylerâs shoulder, fingernails digging into his bare skin as your right hand held onto the hat that adorned your head.Â
as your orgasm inched closer and closer, your movements became more erratic, chasing your high. tyler moaned, whispering praises as your walls clenched around his cock. he knew you were close, mouth moving to your pulse point as he pounded into you, taking over. tyler clapped a hand over your mouth as your orgasm hit, muffling your screams so you didn't wake up your neighbors. his movements however did not slow as he worked you through your orgasm, chasing his own high. your legs trembled as he continued to pound into you, your second orgasm of the night approaching quickly. âfuck! fuck, ty-â you cut yourself off, body shaking as you hit your climax once more. tyler began to huff and moan, pulling you impossibly closer as he reached his own high. you blubbered, unable to form actual words as tylerâs hands roamed your body. you pulled back, kissing him roughly.
âgoddamn,â he helped you off his cock, helping guide you onto the bed, âthink youâll be able to handle a round two?â
âdonât go thinking you can get rid of me that easily.âÂ

death wish love | tyler owens x fem!reader
Pairing: Tyler Owens x Fem!Reader Summary: As members of rival storm chasing groups, you and Tyler Owens have hated each other since the start â well, you were supposed to. Little do you know, Tyler has been head over heels for you for months, and it's only when he nearly loses you that he realises he's done with pretending to hate you. Warnings: Descriptions of injuries, mentions of blood, tornadoes (of course), Tyler is actually painfully obvious with his crush but thinks he's not at all. Word Count: 6.7k (I don't know how that happened) A/N: I had this idea for a fic a few days ago and when I was listening to the Twisters soundtrack as I wrote, I realised that the song Death Wish Love fits it perfectly. I did not intend for this to be so long, but it somehow just happened. It's probably one of the longest things I've written on this blog, so I hope anyone that reads it really enjoys it. I had so much fun writing it and playing around in the Twisters universe! I will definitely be writing more for Tyler.
One of these days, Tyler Owens was going to get his shit together and ask you out. There were, however, several things in the way. The most pressing being the fact that your storm chasing groups were rivals and had been for years.
The fact that you hated his guts would be the second.Â
He was unaware that you didnât hate him quite as much as you made out to, though. It was just that you had a reputation to uphold. Being the unofficial leader of The Thunder Team, your friends and fellow storm chasers all expected you to dislike the Tornado Wranglers just as much as they did.
And you had â in the start.Â
You were just beginning your PhD, fairly fresh in the world of storm chasing and the rivalry between your teams had been there from the very beginning. To your team, the Tornado Wranglers were nothing more than a bunch of stupid kids who didnât even have the correct knowledge to be chasing these tornadoes.
To you, they had slowly become something of a wonder. You didnât think it was necessary to have a PhD or education under your belt in order to storm chase. As long as you loved it, that was enough. And you never doubted the love that the Tornado Wranglers had for it.Â
But still, the rivalry continued. It was always a competition. Who could get to the tornado first? Who could get closer? Who had better instincts when it came to choosing which one to chase? Who could get more attention on social media with their photos and videos?
The Tornado Wranglers had an advantage on that one.
That never stopped your team trying, though. Which is exactly what theyâre doing as you walk towards them from where youâve just parked your car. Theyâre all crowded around the van in the motel parking lot. Robbie, one of your closest friends, is filming Ally talking about something, probably regarding the EF1 tornado youâd chased today.Â
You stop far enough away that you arenât going to end up in the background of the video, and thatâs when Tyler Owens sidles up beside you, arms crossed over his chest.
âNot interested in going viral?â
You glance up at him and notice heâs already looking at you with a cocky grin on his irritatingly handsome face. âNo, figured Iâd leave that to you and your team. Shoot any fireworks up a tornado today? I didnât see you out there.â
âI didnât realise you were looking.âÂ
Thereâs something strange in his tone of voice, but when you look at him again, thereâs nothing in his face to give away the reason.Â
âI wasnât,â you huff. âItâs just that I see your giant red truck everywhere when Iâm trying to get good photos of the tornadoes and itâs quite obvious when youâre not there.âÂ
Tyler smiles to himself. âWhy donât you come chasing with us one day, then? My truck wonât end up in your photos if youâre taking photos from inside it.â
You laugh. âThat is the last thing I would want to do.â A lie. Youâve thought about it several times in the past.
âSure, sure. You keep telling yourself that and one day you might actually believe it.â
You narrow your eyes at him but make no move to walk away from him. Your team are still filming and youâd rather stay away until theyâre finished, even if it means standing with Tyler Owens until they are.Â
âYou guys gonna stop by the rodeo tomorrow night?â Tyler breaks the silence.Â
You shrug your shoulders. âDepends on how tomorrow goes. You?â
He nods. âYeah, we probably will, even if tomorrow doesnât go to plan. You know my team. We love a night out.â
The weather tomorrow was predicted to be a good one for storm chasers â thunderstorms with heavy rain and likely a tornado as well, if the conditions were good enough. You were all hoping that they were.Â
âMy guys are less likely to go if they know your team is going, you know?â You look at Tyler, noticing the way that heâs watching your team, who are now laughing at something that Ally had said for the video. âWe are still rivals.âÂ
âDid you think I needed a reminder?â He chuckles.
âWhy? Am I being too nice to you?â
Tyler grins, one of those ones that makes you feel a little funny in your stomach. Like butterflies â but you donât get butterflies from people you dislike.Â
âOh, darlin', youâre always a delight.â
You roll your eyes. âWant me to get you a shovel so you can start digging yourself a hole?âÂ
He holds up his hands in mock surrender and laughs. âSorry, sorry,â he grins. âYou wanna grab one for yourself so you can help me? Iâd love the company.â
You open your mouth to reply about how much youâd love to help just as you catch Robbieâs eye. Heâs quick to call out your name, beckoning you over, and you have no choice but to listen to him and leave Tyler. Youâve already stood here talking to him long enough and the last thing you want is your team thinking that youâre colluding with the Tornado Wranglers.Â
âGotta go,â you nod your head towards your group. âGood luck tomorrow.â
Tyler bids you good luck as well and watches as you head over towards your group, all of them eyeing him as you reach them. He tips his hat at Robbie, who is watching him with judging eyes, and turns on his heel, heading back to his own team to get a well needed beer.
â
When Tyler gets back to his team, he realises that they were all watching him. They all give him questioning looks as he grabs a beer out of the cooler.Â
âWhat? I got something on my face?â
âYeah, it sure is written all over your face,â Boone says.
Tyler frowns. âWhat is?â
âOh, donât try and lie to us, Ty,â Dani adds.
He shakes his head and takes a seat on one of the fold up chairs beside his truck. Heâs smart enough to see what theyâre getting at â the way heâd been there talking with you for so long. His friends are smart too. But hopefully not smart enough to see through the facade Tyler puts up to try and convince them that he still dislikes you.Â
âHer, Ty? Really? Sheâs from the Thunder Team.â Boone stares Tyler down.
Tyler has no choice. âOkay, no,â he sighs and takes a long swig of his beer. âWe were just talking, and I was just messing around with her.â He was also trying to get the courage to ask you to the rodeo, just the two of you, but heâd chickened out at the last second. âShe definitely still hates us, judging by her reaction.â
Truth is, Tyler Owens has been harbouring a secret crush on you for the better part of a year now. It had snuck up on him. Heâd hated you at first, thought you were just another stuck up storm chasing student, especially when he found out you were studying for your PhD. But after spending so much time around you, something had changed and all of a sudden, you had a hold over him that you didnât even realise you had.Â
It drives Tyler insane.Â
The way he feels when he looks at you is definitely not the way he should be feeling about anyone, letalone the leader of a rival storm chasing team. But here he is.Â
The passion heâd seen in your eyes when youâd been chasing storms. The way you talked about them in your captions on social media when you posted photos youâd taken. Even the way you made time to learn more about them through school while being on the road so often.
He was well aware that he was supposed to hate you. And yet, he couldnât find it in himself to do it anymore.
âYou sure thatâs all it was?âÂ
âA hundred percent, Boone.â
Heâs thankful when the conversation moves away from you and the Thunder Team. It lets him sit in his own thoughts for a few minutes until heâll undoubtedly be brought back into the conversation for one reason or another.Â
Heâs unable to stop his eyes from drifting over to you and your team. Youâve taken a seat on the back of a truck, watching safely from behind the camera as Robbie films Ally again. He tries hard not to smile at the look on your face as you watch your friends, laughing along with the others. The last thing he needs right now is for one of his team to catch him grinning at you like an idiot, especially after convincing them that thereâs nothing going on. Â
He realises, then, that heâs already in way too deep.
â
The last thing you expect when you wake up the next morning is to find out that your team made a bet with the Tornado Wranglers when you had gone to bed.Â
Itâd been raining for most of the night, the ground covered in mud and puddles. The sky was dark and you could just feel that the conditions were perfect for a tornado. You had a good feeling that today would be the day.
Until you learnt about the bet.
âI knew I shouldnât have left you guys alone.â
Robbie laughs, nearly choking on the piece of bacon heâd been eating. Youâve all come to a nearby diner to fuel up on both food and gas for your cars before what was supposed to be a long day of storm chasing. You have a feeling that it wonât be now that the bet exists.
âOkay, technically it was their fault,â Ally offers.
âExplain.â
âSo, weâd had a few drinks, and they had clearly also been drinking, and Harry and I were heading over to the bathrooms to clean up before going to bed â because dental hygiene is important!â Ally begins, forgetting all about her half eaten plate of food. âWe were almost there when they called out to us â I forget their names. The blond guy and the one with the mustache, the cute one. Anyway, they suggested a bet. Whoever could hold their liquor the best gets to choose which direction the other team chases in today.â
You stare at Ally. âAnd you said yes.â
She winces, and then shovels a fork full of eggs into her mouth, nodding so she doesnât have to give you a proper answer.Â
Your team is usually quite well behaved. But even the best of people could get taken advantage of, and youâve seen it many times first hand with the Tornado Wranglers. They can hold their liquor very well and wake up the next day with very little consequences from doing so. Youâre honestly surprised Ally is even functioning. Harry, on the other hand, you havenât seen all morning. Unsurprisingly, your team had obviously lost.
âWhich direction are we going, then?â
âThatâs the catch,â Robbie interjects. âThey choose for us before we go. They get to look at the radar first and decide which way is going to be best. And naturally, theyâre going to send us in the direction far away from the best chance.âÂ
You groan and let your head fall into your hands, beginning to ponder your options. You can either deal with the bet and get sent in the entirely wrong direction, orâŚ
Without a second thought, youâre pushing yourself up from the table and heading towards the door of the diner.
âWhere are you going!?â Robbie calls after you.
âIâm going to fix this mess!âÂ
â
Tyler greets you with a smile that is way too cheerful for both the time of the morning that it is and the situation.
âTo what do I owe the pleasure on this fine morning, darlin'?â He asks, leaning up against his truck. Heâs holding a coffee in one hand. Good to know heâs human. Youâre not surprised that he doesnât look hungover at all. The man practically resembles a God.Â
âWouldnât call it a pleasure, honey,â you sigh, deciding to use a nickname just like he always uses for you. You cross your arms over your chest as you stop in front of him. âThis bet you made with my team last night. I want it called off.â
Tylerâs breath catches in his throat at the sound of the word honey coming out of your mouth, directed at him. He clears his throat, trying to ignore the way it feels to hear you calling him that. âNo can do, Iâm afraid. We Tornado Wranglers donât back down on bets.âÂ
You narrow your eyes at him. âIâm asking nicely.â
âI think you can ask a little nicer. Maybe throw a please in there,â he says. âYou know it wouldnât look good for your team, though, right? Half the other teams know about the bet.â
For a few moments, you simply just stare at him, hoping heâll budge. He doesnât. He stands there staring at you, too, leaning against his truck in an effortlessly attractive way, smiling at you in that same way he always does. Itâs like he reserves this specific smile just for you.Â
You take a step towards him, testing the waters, and notice the way his breath hitches this time at your close proximity. Did he dislike you that much that you getting this close to him set him on edge? Or was it something else?
âNothing can change your mind?â
Tyler shakes his head. âI already told you. We donât back down on our bets.â
âTyler.â Itâs a rare occasion where you call him by his first name, but you figure it canât hurt to try it. You can see his eyes soften a little at the sound of it. âIf you do this, youâre going to send us right off the trail and ruin our chase.â
âWho said Iâd send you in the wrong direction?âÂ
âIâm smarter than you give me credit for.â
âI donât know, darlin'. I give you a fair bit of credit for being a genius,â he took a sip of his coffee. âYouâre the one with the PhD. I didnât study that much.â
Something about hearing those words sets off that feeling inside your stomach again. You push it down. âI donât have my PhD yet.â
âNo,â Tyler shakes his head. âBut youâre close, arenât you? Thatâs more than most people around here can say regarding their education on these things.â He points a finger towards the sky, which is rapidly darkening.Â
You sigh. Heâs right about that. You are close to finishing your PhD, and not many of the other storm chasers around you could say the same.Â
âJust tell me which direction weâre going in, Owens.â
He looks at you for a moment. âIâll give you a choice,â he says, and for a moment hope sparks in your chest that youâll get to choose your direction â until he continues speaking. âIâll let this bet go if you make another one with me.â
âWhat sort of bet?â You cross your arms over your chest.
âNot regarding our teams. Just you and me.â
Youâre about to respond when you hear the sound of the van, playing music rather loudly â Harryâs choice â pulling into the motel parking lot behind you. You sigh and turn around to look at them, irritated that this is the second time in less than 24 hours that theyâve interrupted you and Tyler.Â
âNo luck?â Ally calls out from the passenger seat.Â
Behind them, Robbie pulls up in his truck.Â
You shake your head and turn back around to face Tyler. Thereâs no time to make another bet with him now that your team is here and theyâre all ready to go.Â
âEast or west, Owens?â
Tyler turns around and looks at the sky around you. You figure heâs already done his research on the conditions in every direction and that heâs just messing with you, pretending to decide on the spot. Any good storm chaser would have been watching the radars all morning â which you had been, before you found out about the bet.Â
âEast.â He says, turning back around to face you. âThere are two possible formations, so letâs see which one develops. Or, you can ditch your team and come join us for the day. My passenger seat practically has your name on it, darlinâ.âÂ
A small part of you finds yourself wanting to say yes to him. To tell him that youâd love nothing more than to get in his truck and see what a day with the Tornado Wranglers is like. But the reasonable part of you wins out.Â
âYouâre going to regret making this bet with my team, Owens,â you take a step back from him, giving him his space again.Â
âI gave you the choice of another option, but you didnât take it.â
You ignore him and turn around, heading towards the passenger side of Robbieâs truck â your usual spot when storm chasing. Tyler laughs at your reaction and then gets into his own truck before pressing his hand to the horn, making you jump at the sound, obviously using it to call his team from inside. You shoot him a look over your shoulder and in return, he sends a wink your way.
âMay the best team win,â Tyler flashes a grin.
âOh, we will!â
â
As much as Tyler hates to admit it, he had sent you in the wrong direction. There were two possible formations, that was true. But it looked very clear that the one to the east wasnât actually going to develop into anything, and he was sure you wouldâve figured that out once you got on the road and actually checked the conditions yourself.
He hates disappointing you. He saw the look on your face as you tried to convince him to call off the bet, the way you wanted to make sure today was a good one for your team. But it isnât entirely out of competition that he sent you in the wrong direction.
Subconsciously, he did it to try and keep you safe.
If youâre out of the way of the tornado, then itâs a weight off of Tylerâs chest. He wouldnât admit that to his team, but it felt good to think about himself. That youâd be safe. Besides, he had tried to get you out of it by making another bet with you, but he knew that you wouldnât humour him the second he saw your team arrive.Â
He presses his foot down on the accelerator, watching the clouds ahead of them. Something is going to form. He knows it. He just hopes itâs a good one, something worth chasing.Â
In the passenger seat, Boone is keeping a good eye on the clouds to the east. Heâs filming as well, live streaming as usual.Â
âYou were right, Ty,â Boone says, pointing the camera out the window towards the east. âThat oneâs gonna give us nothing. Itâs already disappearing.â
Tyler lets out a breath of relief. Youâre out of harms way and even though he knows youâd be annoyed at him if you ever found out, he canât seem to find it in himself to feel bad about the fact. He had felt bad about the bet when youâd been talking to him, but now he realises that keeping the bet was a good idea.
âThis oneâs gonna be a good one, I can feel it,â he says, eyeing the clouds above them.Â
Then, it happens â the tornado forms right in front of them. Itâs already huge, bigger than any tornado Tyler has seen in the past few months.
Boone whoops in the seat beside him, moving the camera to film the tornado through the windshield.Â
âJust look at that beauty!â He exclaims.Â
Tyler canât keep the smile off of his face as they drive closer to it. He stops the car once they get close enough, anchoring it to the ground as usual, watching as it gets closer and closer to the truck.Â
âOh, this is gonna be fun,â Tyler yells, straight to the camera that Boone is holding in his face. âLetâs do this!â
Itâs only a split second later that his heart drops to his stomach. He watches as the tornado, once coming right towards them, veers off course. Itâs heading east. And itâs growing in size.Â
He looks out of the passenger window and in the distance, he can see your truck. Itâs white, so bright under the dark sky. Youâre going to be right in its path.
He sent you in the wrong direction to try and get you out of harms way, and instead heâs sent you in the exact direction the tornado is heading. Thereâs no way you can get out of its path in time.Â
Tyler suddenly feels like he can barely breathe.
âTurn the camera off, Boone,â he commands, and then heâs removing the anchors from the ground and pressing his foot down onto the accelerator before he can even really think about it, even though thereâs no way he can reach you in time with how quickly the tornado is moving towards you.
Boone, thankfully, listens, ending the stream, putting the camera down and picking up the radio to try and reach you. Heâs realised whatâs happening. Tyler tries to ignore the panic he feels when thereâs no answer.
He canât lose you like this. Not now. Not when he never really even had you. Not when you didnât even know the way he felt about you. Heâd been an asshole, a fool, making that bet. If he hadnât, none of this would have happened.
âPlease be okay, please be okay.â He mutters it under his breath like itâs a mantra. He doesnât care what Boone thinks. If he says it enough, maybe he can make it come true.
â
Youâve seen tornadoes before. Youâve been close to them before. But youâve never had one quite this size coming straight at you. You hadnât expected this.Â
When Tyler sent you east, Robbie had checked the radar and noticed that the cells out here were much less likely to form a tornado compared to the ones west. Youâd gone anyway, figuring youâd try your chances, leaving Ally, Harry and the rest of your team a little further back, trying to get as close as you could before you realised your tornado was going to amount to nothing at all.
You and Robbie had been watching the tornado forming west of you, wishing you had been able to chase that one rather than do what the Tornado Wranglers told you.Â
And then, it changed course.
âGet out of the car! We need to run!â Robbie undoes his seatbelt as he speaks and it doesnât take you long to follow suit, undoing your own and jumping out of the truck.
He takes off at a run ahead of you just as the rain begins.
Your heart is beating faster in your chest than you think it ever has before. Your legs burn at the pace youâre running, your feet sinking into and skidding through the muddy paddock thanks to the heavy rain last night and the rain growing even heavier now. It slows you down, but your adrenaline pushes you faster. You canât stop, not now. Not when thereâs a possible EF4 on your tail, getting closer to you with every breath you take.
You make a mistake, then, deciding to look back at it.Â
The sight of it only makes you run faster, but when you turn back, fear strikes through your system as you realise you canât see Robbie anymore.Â
The wind isnât strong enough to have pulled him back into it, not when he was running ahead of you, but you canât help but think of the worst possible scenario as your gaze narrows in on a gully just ahead of you. Maybe he made it there before you and now heâs just waiting.
The wind from the tornado picks up trees and branches and other debris, sending things spinning through the air. You feel something slice across your leg and cry out at the sudden pain, but thereâs no time to inspect the damage as you slide down the small hill into the gully, the mud going everywhere as you hit the bottom.Â
You donât even have time to scan for Robbie as you press yourself down onto the ground of the gully, covering your head with your hands and pressing your face into the ground. You try to ignore the feeling of the mud and dirt on your skin, the throbbing pain in your leg, the rain pelting down on your back, soaking you to the bone, and try to keep breathing steadily despite being out of breath from the run and the adrenaline.Â
You canât panic now. If you panic now, youâre dead.Â
The tornado gets closer and you can hear it. Hear the wind rushing through the air, hear the sound of trees being ripped out of the ground. Hear the crashing sound of the truck being picked up and thrown by it.Â
Everything is okay, you tell yourself, like a mantra. Everything is going to be okay. Because if you tell yourself enough, maybe it will come true.
â
By the time Tyler gets to the place where your truck had been, the tornado is gone and so is your truck. He barely even has time to put his own truck into park before heâs jumping out of it and calling your name.Â
Boone is quick to follow him.
Tylerâs eyes narrow in on something in the distance â the remnants of your truck. Itâs sitting upside down, the cab crushed in and all the glass broken. Even some of the wheels are missing. His heart almost stops.
No, you would have been smart enough to get out. You wouldnât have stayed in the truck. He knows that. He believes that. It was one of the first things any storm chaser learnt â never stay in your car, itâs better to take your chances outside of it.
He stops in the middle of the field and takes a long, deep breath to try and calm himself down when he hears the sound of someone yelling out.
âHey, I need some help over here!â
Itâs a male voice, not belonging to you, which is the first sign that makes Tyler realise something is wrong. He recognises Robbie immediately, even though heâs drenched in rain and covered in mud and blood.
Boone runs off towards him and Tyler follows.
âWhere is she?â He cuts in as Boone begins asking Robbie where heâs been hurt. âWere you with her? Where is she?âÂ
He knows heâs being a little irrational. He should be kinder, especially when heâs the reason Robbie was even in this tornado in the first place, but his mind is narrowed in on you, on making sure youâre okay. Heâs never been more terrified that heâs lost you in his life.
âI donât know,â Robbie shakes his head. âShe was behind me, and then I jumped down into this little dam and she never came in after me.âÂ
Tyler doesnât let him say anything else before he takes off running. He knows Boone can handle Robbie. His only concern is finding you. He calls out your name again and again and again, willing you to respond to just one of them.
He only hears silence.
â
The second you wake up, you push yourself up, getting your face out of the mud and opening your eyes, trying to adjust them to the sudden brightness now that the tornado has disappeared.Â
Youâre vaguely aware of the sound of someone calling out your name, but it sounds fuzzy, far away. Your head is spinning and youâre pretty sure you could be imagining it.
You put a hand up to the side of your face, feeling the sticky sensation of blood on your hands. Something must have hit your head and knocked you out during the tornado. You can only remember something hitting your leg as youâd slid down into the gully. How long have you been lying here? Minutes? Hours? Days, even?
Looking around, you can see the devastation caused by the tornado. There are trees and branches everywhere, and with the rain, itâs made it even muddier â and probably impossible to climb out of, especially with your injuries. You finally allow yourself to inspect your leg, noticing a deep cut across your shin, ripping your jeans. Your leg starts to throb as you finally allow yourself to recognise the pain.Â
With a deep breath, you try and push yourself to your feet. Itâs slippery down here thanks to all the mud and rain, and you manage to stand for just a second before your leg buckles and sends you crashing back down. At least itâs a fairly soft landing.
You curse under your breath just as you hear movement above you. Your eyes flicker towards the direction of the sound, and when you see Tyler Owens appear at the edge of the gully just to the right of you, you nearly feel like you could cry.
âTyler!â You manage to call out to him, though your voice is weak.
His head spins towards your voice, eyes widening as he sees you. You must look like a mess, covered in all the blood and dirt, but you knows he doesnât care. Especially with the way he slides down into the gully and stumbles towards you, getting covered in mud himself in the process.
âAre you okay? Are you hurt?â He falls to his knees in front of you, his hands moving to cup your cheeks and move your head from side to side. Heâs quick to check the wound on your head where the blood is coming from. âYouâre okay, darlinâ, it doesnât look too deep.â
You can see the panic in his eyes as he scans you, scans your whole body looking for injuries. You can also tell from the look on his face when he looks at your shin that your injury there is worrisome.Â
âItâs my fault,â Tyler shakes his head, refusing to move his hands from your cheeks. Itâs as if youâll fade away if he lets go. âI shouldnât have told you to go east. I was just trying to get you out of the way of the tornado cause I felt that yours wasnât gonna develop, but then ours changed course and it was heading straight towards you and I couldnât get here fast enough and god, the idea of losing you, of never seeing you again, of never askingââ
âTyler!âÂ
He stops talking, having not even realised that he had let the situation get the better of him and had been rambling on. When he meets your eyes, youâre shocked to see that there are tears in his.Â
âYou never call me by my first name.â
âI didnât think Iâd be able to get your attention if I didnât.â
Your reach up and take one of his hands off of your face and weave your fingers between his. You donât really know what youâre doing, exactly, but all you know is you need to comfort him. That and youâre shaking like a leaf and the feeling of holding his hand is like an anchor to the world. A reminder that youâre alive.Â
âIâm still here, Tyler. Iâm all right.â
âYouâre not,â he shakes his head. âYouâre hurt, and itâs because of meââ
You take him by surprise as you reach up and place your own hand on his cheek. Itâs only when you touch his face that you remember your hand is covered in blood and mud, but when you try and take it away, Tyler places his hand over the top of it. His eyes flutter closed and he lets out a long breath that feels to you that itâs something like relief.
The two of you stay there like that for what feels like an eternity but is really just a few minutes, soaking in the feeling of each others skin and coming to terms with the realisation that youâre alive.Â
âItâs not your fault, Tyler,â you mutter softly. âYou couldnât have known that tornado was going to change course and head straight for us. Just because that bet ended up landing us in the path of a probable EF4 doesnât mean youâre the one to blame for it. I donât blame you.â
He blinks his eyes open and stares at yours for a moment.Â
âNow, what were you saying about asking me something?â You try to change the subject.
Thereâs a look of something in Tylerâs eyes that you canât quite place, but it drops off of his face instantly at your words and he lets out an awkward laugh. âI donât think nowâs the right time, darlinâ,â he says. âSome other time, when youâre not bleeding and injured. We need to get you out of here and to a hospital.â
You shake your head, ignoring the fact that the movement makes you a little dizzy. âI could have just died and I would have never known what it is you wanted to ask me. So I want to know what it is right now.â Youâre surprised at how strong your voice sounds, even though you donât feel strong at all right now.
Tyler sighs and you can see by the look on his face that heâs giving in to you. âI was trying to get the courage to ask you out, was trying last night actually but I chickened out. You can be quite intimidating sometimes, you know that?â
For a moment, you just stare at Tyler.Â
âI thought I was the one who hit my head. Did you hit yours too?â
He lets out a soft laugh. âSomething like that.â
âYou need another reminder that weâre supposed to hate each other?â
Tyler shakes his head. âI think Iâve had enough reminders to last me a lifetime. But Iâm done with pretending to hate you. With trying to convince my team that I dislike you so much. I know they know the truth. It doesnât matter, even though you canât stand me.âÂ
You meet Tylerâs eyes and in them, you can see that heâs telling the truth. He doesnât hate you, nor dislike you, nor anything similar. With the way heâs looking at you, the way he was calling your name, the way he panicked so much when he thought you were seriously hurt⌠he really was trying to ask you out. Just the thought of it makes that feeling rise in your stomach again, and for the first time you recognise the feeling for what it truly is â butterflies. You donât get butterflies from people you hate.
âI donât hate you, Tyler.â
You can see the surprise flash across his eyes.
âYou donât hate me?â
âYou annoy the hell out of me and you drive me insane sometimes. But no. You fascinate me, and you make me laugh, and even though every member of my team hates you and your stupid red truck, Iâve always wondered what itâd be like to be in the passenger seat with you, driving head first into a tornado, and I nearly said yes when you asked me earlier.â
Tyler chuckles. âMy truck is not stupid.â
âDoes your passenger seat really have my name on it?â
âEmbroidered it myself.â
You laugh, then, a real, full laugh, and Tyler canât help but laugh as well at the absurdity of the situation. Youâve just survived a devastating tornado, youâre injured in more ways than one, Tyler Owens has just told you he likes you and youâve come to the realisation that you like the fact that he does. And maybe, you like him a little bit too.
âWeâre not gonna make it to that rodeo tonight, are we?â You ask, once the laughs subside.
Tyler shakes his head. âRain check for the next one?â
âThatâs how youâre asking me out?â
He doesnât get a chance to reply before you both hear your names being called and look up just as Boone and Robbie appear at the top of the gully. Tyler turns around to look at them. They look relieved to have found you both, and you feel just as relieved to see that Robbie is alive and well, only a little battered just like you are. Even if youâre a little disappointed that your moment with Tyler was interrupted. It seems that happens more often than not lately.
âIs she okay?â Boone asks Tyler.
He nods. âYeah, but sheâs injured. Weâre gonna need a hand out of here.â
âWe got you,â Boone says.
â
âSo, when are you asking me out properly, Owens?â You ask.
Itâs been a week since the tornado and a week since you found out that Tyler Owens had been wanting to ask you out for months. Boone had stayed true to his word that day, using a rope and Tylerâs truck to pull you both up out of the gully.
Tyler had barely left your side since â even in the truck ride to the hospital. He usually hated letting anyone drive his truck other than himself, but that day heâd thrown the keys to Boone so he didnât have to take any of his attention off of you. Heâd stayed with you in the hospital as well, even when the rest of your team turned up to check on you and Robbie.
You were surprised at how quickly your teams had dropped their rivalry after the tornado. Theyâd clearly seen the way you and Tyler acted around each other, how things had changed after the tornado, even though both of you refused to give them details on what had happened when Tyler had found you in the gully.Â
It was something both of you were glad for.
âYou canât just ask me that,â Tyler says, kicking his legs up on the desk in the small motel room. Luckily, heâd taken off his muddy boots when heâd come inside to check on you. He had insisted you go back home to recover from your leg injury, but youâd refused.Â
âI canât?â You ask from your spot on the bed, resting your leg up on some pillows. It had luckily not been too bad of an injury, just a reasonably deep cut that needed stitching and wrapping. You still had to be careful not to rip the stitches, which meant no storm chasing and only resting for the time being.Â
Tyler nods. âYou made me admit the truth to you while we were both covered in mud and blood in the bottom of a wet, muddy gully. Iâm not going to ask you out while youâre sitting on a motel room bed with an injured leg and stitches in your forehead. Iâm classier than that.â
You snort. âYou, classy?â
âFrom time to time,â he shrugs a shoulder.
You jokingly roll your eyes at him. âIâll believe it when I see it. You know, you never actually explained what the other bet you wanted to make with me that day was. Was that something to do with asking me out as well?â
Tylerâs face broke out into a grin. âMaybe.â
âOf course,â you canât help but laugh at the silly look on his face. âAre you at least going to ask me before I get swept up in another tornado?â
âDarlinâ,â Tyler stands up and crosses the room until heâs standing right beside you. One of his hands reaches down and picks up yours, weaving his fingers in-between yours. âIf you get swept up in a tornado, Iâm going to be right beside you. Iâm gonna be beside you for as long as you let me. For as long as I get. As long as I get, okay?â
He repeats it like a mantra. Because if he says it enough, heâs certain it will come true.

Lightning - Tyler Owens (smut)
I mean, we all knew this would happen. I havenât seen the movie yet, but I am DESPERATE for him. And as somebody who actually has something to do with studying tornadoes, I had to write this. I am obsessed with this fic, but I doubt this will get much attention, so please actually reblog it if you enjoyed reading it! Enjoy my loves. xxx
Summary: Tyler and the reader are chasing tornadoes together, but when they have to step back and find shelter, things quickly change between them.
Warnings: 18+, smut, piv, handjob, kinda enemies to lovers, teasing and all that fun stuff
Pairing: Tyler Owens x fem!reader (3k words)
Wind was blowing in her face, letting her strands dance in the air while her eyes flickered between her laptop screen and the dark sky. She was surrounded by her team, trying to ignore their shouts as they decided which direction to head in. (Y/n) was torn between too many options, not liking the way this afternoon was playing out.Â
It was do or die, miss or hit one of the biggest tornadoes they had come across in a while. And yet the second cell that was currently forming gave off a somewhat more promising chance of catching enough data this time around.Â
âWhich way will it be, lightning?â Her breath hitched in her chest as he mumbled the words, front pressed against her back. The hairs on her arms began to rise, fully focused on his closeness, allowing her to pick up on the scent of his familiar cologne, on the way his breath fanned over the back of her neck as if he was about to kiss that very spot.
âAm I dreaming? Is Tyler Owens asking for my opinion?â She slowly turned towards the handsome man. Her eyes instantly found his piercing ones, getting lost in their intense gaze while he shot her one of his signature smirks. Fuck, if he werenât such an asshole most of the time, she would easily give in to the pull she felt, allowing him to tug her towards his bed without having to fear about the aftermath. But if there was one thing (y/n) was sure of, it was that Tyler Owens was all about playing games, toying with a woman until he eventually grew bored. He was a personification of a thunderstorm, fast moving and never ready to settle.
âDonât let it get to your head, pretty.â She clicked her tongue with a displeased expression tugging on her features. There was no time left to study him, to curse whoever had created him for making him look this handsome. They had to stay focused, at least until she got the data she needed for her project.Â
âAlright, weâre heading east.â (Y/n) closed her laptop before reaching for her bagâthe bag that was snatched from her grasp before she could protest. Tyler had slung it over his shoulder while tilting his head towards his truck, silently asking her to ride with him.Â
On any other occasion she would have cursed him, would have told him to fuck off. But today, while being heavily understaffed, she needed any help she could get. And knowing that Tyler drove like the devil himself, she knew she had the best chance of arriving just in time with him by her side.Â
His smirk grew wider the second she gave in, begrudgingly following Tyler while her eyes found the confused ones of her teammates. She only rolled her eyes at them, raising her shoulders and dropping them again as if she was wordlessly telling them that she was just as confused as they were, not seeing through Tylerâs game just yet.Â
Silence filled the truck, only a few commands left (y/n) whenever they needed to make a turn, chasing down the roads to catch up with the growing cell. All while the others followed behind them, too slow to catch up with Tylerâs truck. Her heart was pounding in her chest, riled up by the anticipation of chasing another storm â no matter how many times she had done this before, (y/n) would never get used to the thrill, the moments leading up to seeing yet another beautiful though terrifying tornado.Â
âYou alright, pretty?â Sheâd never get used to the way Tyler called her, dripping with that drawl she loved more than sheâd ever admit. (Y/n) didnât look at him, fully focused on her laptop to monitor the path their tornado took. No word left her pressed together lips, trying to drown out the feeling of his concerned eyes flickering towards her every few seconds.Â
â(Y/n)?â The use of her name ripped (y/n) out of her trance, letting her wide pupils find his. She only nodded at Tyler, knowing she couldnât waste any time on the crush she could never speak of, preferring to take her secret to the grave rather than feeding his egoâonly to end up with a broken heart in the process.Â
âGuys, can you hear me?â She held the radio close, speaking to the others while refocusing on the map. All they could hear was rustling, unable to pick up on the reply that was spoken on the other end. Curses clawed through (y/n), she tried to reach their teams again, while swallowing the sinking feeling growing in the pit of her stomach. No longer could she see them in the rearview mirror, telling her that they hadnât made it down the narrow path Tyler had taken.
The road ahead was muddy, forcing the truck to slither along while Tyler tried to avoid holes and ditches. With one hand clutching the door, (y/n) tried to hold still, not daring to bump into Tyler whose angry cusses filled the truck. Both had their eyes focused ahead, knowing that this had been the wrong choice, the wrong tornado to chase. They were heading straight towards their death if they kept going that way, knowing that without their team by their side, they wouldnât be able to collect enough data anyway.Â
âI hate being the one to say it, but we gotta find shelter, lightning.â Tylerâs annoyed groans left her nodding, giving him the green light to take a sharp left to turn towards the town close by. With the slimmest chance to find proper shelter, Tyler kept speeding along, seemingly having a spot in mind. (Y/n) was angry, at herself, at the road conditions, knowing that this situation should have played out much differently. And all she could do was trust the man she had always tried to hate.
âCome, follow me.â The truck was forced to a sudden halt. (Y/n) followed Tyler outside, holding onto her things while he reached for her free hand to pull her along. He guided her towards what appeared to be a barn, a building she paid no attention to as she studied the tornado, getting lost in its beauty for a second. âThey built an underground shelter here a few years back, if weâre lucky nobody else had the time to find it.â
Tyler pushed her into the unlocked barn, letting the doors slide close again before he led her down some stairs. She didnât dare speak, torn between too many emotions. All (y/n) could do was let go of a sigh while being ushered into the empty, dark shelter. It took her a while to adjust to the darkness, letting her hands move along the metallic wall until she found what appeared to be a light switch. She gave it a try, though without any luck, letting herself drop to the ground while Tyler stayed glued to his spot.Â
If both hadnât been too deep in thought, they would have realised that this was the first time they were sheltering together, completely alone without any nosy eyes watching them or listening to their talks.Â
âWe should have gone west, Iâm sorry.â Her whispers filled the small shelter, luring Tyler closer who plopped down next to her. He fumbled with his phone to turn on the fleshlight, letting it rest on the ground to alight their surroundings. A few boxes were placed against the wall, filled with water and some snacks they hopefully wouldnât have to use, praying that theyâd get out of here fast enough to chase their luck once again.Â
âThereâs always time for another try, pretty.â Tyler reached for her hand to squeeze it before he could stop himself, forcing her eyes to focus on the spot where she now felt a buzzing sensation. She let her head roll towards Tyler, studying the white hat he took off with his free hand, placing it down on the ground, only to comb through his hair.Â
âDonât think Iâve ever seen you without that thing on.â (Y/n)âs whispers left him chuckling, a sound that momentarily managed to drown out the roar of the tornado. The howling was an almost comforting sound to them, after years of chasing them, well aware of every little detail.Â
âWell, youâre one of the few who gets the honour, appreciate it.â She rolled her eyes at him before ripping her gaze off of him. Heat flushed through her at his teasing, a heat that only grew more biting as she realised that they were still holding hands. Her tongue moved along her dry lips, trying to find the right words to break their silence, silently hoping that she could cherish every single second of their time together. As much as she had once sworn to hate him while burying her crush deep inside of herself, she had lost all strength to fight against it, at least for now.
âWhy have we never done this before?â Tyler seemed to feel the same longing, drawing her focus back towards him with his question. His eyes had an even more piercing touch to them now, having an invisible tight grasp on her soul she didnât want to escape from.Â
âBecause youâre an asshole most of the time and I canât stand being around you for long.â (Y/n)âs sharp reply left him laughing, a loud sound that had an addicting effect on her, leaving her chuckling while shaking her head at the man.Â
âYou wound me, lightning. Here I was hoping youâd finally let me take you out on a date, once this dayâs over.â No longer did she laugh, the sound was stuck in her throat all too suddenly.
Did he truly mean it? Was he planning on asking her out? Or was Tyler playing yet another game with her?Â
âDonât fuck with me, Owens.â His hand darted out to grasp her chin, forcing her to keep her focus on him before she could even try to turn away from him. For just a second, she watched his gaze flicker between her eyes and her slightly parted lips. Once again her heart was back to racing, no longer focused on the howling wind, the sounds of things crashing outside, but fully and solemnly focused on Tyler.Â
âAre you scared of this thing between us?â Once again, his question managed to rob her of the air filling her lungs, not expecting him to be this direct with her. A part of (y/n) begged her to cuss him out, to make fun of the question, to escape the avalanche that was about to roll upon them, but the bigger - more desperate - part of her, managed to gain the upper hand, leading her straight towards danger.
âWell, even though you enjoy riding your fears, I prefer to face âem. Iâm not scared, not of this, whatever this is. But Iâm fucking terrified of you toying with me and dropping me the second Iâm no longer interesting enough.â He let go of her, only to pull her into his lap, making her straddle his stretched out legs. They held eye contact, wordlessly daring one another to move first, to give in to the pull that was as strong as an F5 theyâd happily chase on any other day.Â
âIâd be fucking stupid to mess it up with you.â She felt his breath on her lips, ghosting over her soft skin like he was giving her one last chance to pull away. A chance she wouldnât take, letting it pass while finding his lips for a soft kiss that escalated within seconds. With his hand pressed to the back of her head and his other placed on her waist, Tyler held her to him while deepening the kiss.
Their tongues fought for victory, knowing that neither of them would back down from a fight against the other, urged on by their need to gain the upper hand. Soft groans and moans left them while their bodies searched one anotherâs closeness, knowing that this was something they wouldnât tell others about, preferring to keep this as their secret.Â
Her hands roamed his clothed chest, feeling his muscles beneath her wandering fingers while finding her way to his belt. She toyed with the buckle for a moment while her lips were still glued to his, knowing theyâd have to part any moment now to inhale some much needed breaths of air.Â
âYou sure you want to do this in here, lightning?â His chuckles left her grinning, while holding onto the question she had wanted to ask for a while now.Â
âWhy lightning?â A kiss was shared between them, much softer than the one before. Her hand was still toying with his belt, slowly undoing the buckle to wordlessly tell him she wanted this much as he did, even though they knew that it was stupid and selfish of them to hide out here while their teams were undoubtedly worrying about them.Â
âWell, the first time I saw you, you struck me like lightning, brightening my darkest day.â The explanation was cheesy, and yet it still drew heat up her neck. She could only swallow, smile at him and refocus on her hands. Tyler let her move, freeing his hardening cock while his impatient hands tugged on the buttons of her blouse, letting it pop open to expose her bra-clad chest.Â
âFuck, youâre a dream.â Her eyes flickered up to his while she spat into her palm, using her saliva to lube him up. Tyler couldnât stop his moans from clawing through him, fully focused on the way he perfectly fit into her hand, pressed against the soft skin he wanted to feel against every inch of his body. His head rolled back against the wall, eyes closed and lips parted â offering a sight that made her walls clench around nothing, proud for being the one to make him feel like that.Â
Her hand added more speed to its movements, squeezing him with just enough pressure to draw another raspy moan from Tyler. He allowed himself to relish in her touch for another moment before he gently though urgently grasped her wrist to stop her from moving.Â
âWill you ride me, lightning?â His accent grew thicker with every syllable, leaving her shuddering while only a soft chuckle managed to leave her. She rose to her feet to shuffle out of her jeans, keeping her eyes focused on Tyler who marvelled at her as if she was the strongest tornado he had ever been fortunate enough to see, fully mesmerised by everything about her. She kept her panties on while finding her way back to his lap, knowing that they needed to hit the road soon, not giving them a chance to do this properly.Â
âWait, here.â He reached for his back pocket to pull a condom out of his wallet, letting her rip it open to roll it down his aching cock. Both their hearts were beating in sync, knowing that they were finally about to do something they had been desperate for ever since running into one another for the first time. No matter how much anger and hatred had once grown between them, it was now turning them from opponents to loversâor whatever it was both were trying to adjust to.Â
Tyler held onto her as she sank down on him, letting her forehead fall against his shoulder for a second. No words were spoken while they had to adjust, overwhelmed by the new sensation and the whirlwind of emotions buzzing through them like a storm hitting them both. With her hands holding onto him, clinging to the fabric of the shirt he wore, she began to move, fucking herself on his twitching cock with such a passion, Tyler feared he may never want to get out of this shelter again.Â
âTyler,â his name left her, a breathy whisper he almost missed, too far gone to focus on anything but their closeness. He palmed her ass, letting his fingertips dig into her skin to leave marks that would remind her of this very moment for days to come. His hips met hers, jerking upwards to make his cock disappear inside of her even deeper, drawing desperate moans from them which dripped with a need for more.Â
âAttagirl, look at you, fucking yourself on my cock like you were born for this.â She moaned at his words, knowing that her thighs would start aching soon enough, begging for a new position to give herself the needed push to fall over the edge. âWhat? Youâre already getting tired? I should have fucked you in my truck, make you scream my name while the worldâs ending around us.âÂ
He pushed her off of him without a warning, leaving her dazed and confused for a second while watching him rise to his feet. With a hand stretched out for (y/n) to take, he pulled her up towards himâonly to pick her up and press her against the wall. His cock was pushed back into her, stretching her walls while he fucked her with a fast pace that made both of them see stars.Â
(Y/n) clawed at his neck, needing to hold onto him while he fucked her closer and closer to the edge. A cocky grin widened on his lips as he felt her walls tightening their grip on his cock. She was close, would let go soon with his name burning on the tip of her tongue, a perfect reminder that she was his from today on, glued to the man who she had once sworn to hate.Â
âScream my name, lightning, show them what a real thunderstorm sounds like.â If he werenât buried deep inside of her, she would have rolled her eyes at him. But (y/n) was too far gone to care about his cheesy teasing, solemnly focused on her arising high and the name rolling off her tongue like a prayer.
And then she came, pushed into an orgasm so strong, (y/n) feared sheâd never experience something like this again. It buzzed through every part of her body, stealing her breath as if she was drowning, forcing her heart to skip beats as if she was chased by someone or rather something. Tyler kept fucking her against the wall, urged on by her moans, the sounds heâd never forget again.Â
Pants kept leaving him while chasing his own high, letting his skin meet hers with every ferocious thrust. And with one last âFuckâ Tyler came, relieving himself into the condom as his smirk returned to his lips. Both were heavily breathing, clinging to the other while coming down from their highs.
âI donât know if I can walk back to the truck.â Carefully, he placed (y/n) back down on her feet, shaking his head at her with a soft smile thrown her way. Tyler pressed another kiss to her slightly swollen lips before both redressed, knowing that they had to get out of here and back to their team as fast as possible.Â
âYou know Iâll gladly carry you, lightning. I always will, if you let me.â

scared half to death
đŞď¸ďżźtyler owens x fem!reader ďżź
â genre: angst, fluff, friends to lovers
â wc: 2.7k
â summary: tyler owens is not easily angered, but when the love of his life runs into an incoming tornado without a second thought, his emotions get the better of him.
â warnings: a very upset tyler, yelling, language
note: so i watched twisters and it was actually everything to me! the brainrot is bad and iâve been wanting to write for tyler ever since i saw it, so here it is! this is very much the idiots in love trope because itâs one of my favorites. enjoy! :)
âWhere is she?â
Tyler isnât sure if heâs ever felt this angry before. He considers himself a fairly easy going man, always quick to make light of a situation and put everyone in the room at ease with his charming, joking nature.
But this was different. This had his heart pounding, his ears ringing. His face is flushed red and he feels like he can hardly breathe.
All because of her.
He slams the door of his truck, approaching his crew in the gas station parking lot with a look on his face thatâs so completely un-Tyler that it makes them all shift uneasily.
âWhereâsâŚwho?â Boone tries weakly, unsuccessful in his attempt to play dumb. Lily rolls her eyes and elbows him in the ribs, shooting him a glare.
Tyler clenches his jaw, for once not in the mood for his friendsâ antics. âYou know damn well who Iâm talking about.â
They all exchange glances, his uncharacteristic demeanor both surprising and concerning. This isnât the calm, charismatic frontman of the Tornado Wranglers theyâre used to.
âSheâs in the RV, but I donât think-â Dani begins, but heâs already beelining for the camper before they can finish. He can hear his heartbeat pulsing in his ears as he nearly bursts through the door, finding her sitting at the small table in the back with her head in her hands.
Her gaze snaps up at the sound of his entrance into the RV, and her face immediately drops when she sees him practically fuming. âTyler-â she says urgently, instantly on her feet as he approaches as if sheâs about to defend herself. But he isnât having any of it.
âYou wanna tell me what the hell you were thinking out there?â He seethes, suddenly towering over her with his jaw clenched and hands on his hips. She swallows thickly, nervous around this version of him. Terrified to have upset him, disappointed him.
âTyler, I promise, I was just trying to do the right thing-â she starts again, her tone practically pleading, but he just scoffs. ďżźďżź
âThe right thing?â He questions in disbelief, cutting her off with a shake of his head. âYou call nearly getting yourself killed in the field âdoing the right thingâ?â
She squeezes her eyes shut at the reminder of what sheâd done, at the venom in his voice thatâs ordinarily so gentle when directed at her. Memories of what had transpired nearly 20 minutes ago flood her mind and she feels a lump forming in her throat.
âI couldnât let our data get lost,â she whispers weakly, her gaze glued to the floor in shame. âBullshit,â he mutters, jaw clenched as his breath picks up. His eyes search her face, grasping to understand why the hell she had risked her life the way she had.
âYou donât run into the path of an incoming EF3 to recover some stupid equipment for our disruption research,â he practically spits, his voice growing louder, more emotional.
âThat equipment is completely replaceable. You sure as hell arenât. So I want to know why on godâs green earth you thought it was a good idea to run headfirst into danger like that.â
Her breath hitches, her eyes welling up with unshed tears at the reminder of her brashness. She feels ashamed and almost embarrassed as Tyler practically berates her.
They were best friends, a pair that the rest of the team liked to call the âdynamic duo.â With a shared passion for tornadoes and a taste for danger, they had instantly clicked from the moment they met during a chase a few years ago, becoming inseparable. Which is why Tylerâs harsh reminder of her stupidity stung so painfully.
She wasnât used to hearing him so upset, so emotional in the worst way. With her, his tone was always soft, teasing, sometimes so overtly flirty that it would leave her heart pounding and her cheeks flushed.
But this was different. Now his gaze was harsh, curses unnaturally tumbling from his lips as she struggled to explain herself. And she hated every moment of his scrutinizing stare.
âYouâve worked so hard on putting together the equipment for the disruption research. I didnât want you to have to start from scratchâŚnot after all the effort you went through,â she explains pathetically, her voice cracking slightly as her emotions begin to shine through.
Tyler shakes his head, stepping even closer into her space. âAnd you thought it was worth risking your life for?â He grits out, his furrowed brow and downturned lips looking so unnatural on his normally smiling face.
Another shuddering breath escapes her as she catches herself from revealing the true reason sheâd been so careless, from baring her soul and telling him that sheâd run into the path of an incoming tornado because she loved him more than anything. That the thought of his disappointed face, his devastation over months of work lost to an unpredictably large tornado, hurt her so much that she would have done anything to save that equipment.
Anything to make him happy, to be the hero that he was to her.
âI- I didnât get hurt, I knew I had time to get at least some of it-â she stammers, but she canât get the words out.
âYou didnât have time!â He practically yells, gripping her shoulders and giving her a gentle shake. His eyes are wide, his gaze burning as he stares down at her.
âIf Boone hadnât been close by with his truck, you couldâve easily not made it. You couldâve died,â he chokes out, his grip on her tightening. His eyes are watering now, his anger fizzling out into something more desperate, more panicked.
Tyler still remembers the pure, unadulterated fear heâd felt as she slipped out of the safety of his truck before he could stop her, sprinting out into the open field where the winds and torrential rain were getting worse by the second.
He remembers the devastated scream of her name that had ripped itself from his chest, lost to the howling winds.
He sure as hell canât forget the feeling of overwhelming fear and helplessness that overtook him when the rain became so intense that he could not longer see her, no longer assure himself that she hadnât been sucked up into the raging funnel or hurt by the flying debris.
It was only when he got radio confirmation from Boone five minutes later, stating that she was safe in their truck with some of the equipment intact, that he even knew she was alive.
It had been the most hopeless, terrifying five minutes of his life.
âDonât you understand what you mean to everyone? What you mean to me?â He rasps, his voice quieter now, more broken. âSome stupid equipment for an experiment isnât worth your life, Y/N. Not in the least.â
His eyes are tender now as they rake over her face, scanning the scrapes and cuts littering her cheeks, the patch of dried blood clinging to her temple. His heart aches at the thought of her getting hurt, even if the injuries are small.
She notices that nearly all of his anger has left his body, replaced by the emotion that had truly been brewing beneath the surface: crippling fear at the possibility of losing her.
A silent tear runs down her face at his softer, more vulnerable words, her heart breaking as she realizes the effect her thoughtless actions have had on the man she loves. Heâs quick to gently wipe it away with the pad of his thumb, his touch lingering on her cheek as he gazes at her.
âIâm sorry,â she whispers, her voice breaking as she chokes back a sob. In an instant, heâs enveloping her in his tight, comforting hold, cradling her head to his chest and pulling her so close to him that their bodies are practically molded together.
âShhhâŚitâs alright, sweetheart,â he gently hushes, his hand stroking through her hair as she cries softly against him. Heâs back to himself now, all anger and frustration long abandoned in favor of his naturally calm, caring demeanor. Through her tears, she feels herself flushing slightly at his term of endearment.
âIâm the sorry one. I shouldnât have yelled at ya, you didnât deserve it,â he murmurs into her ear, his arms tightening around her.
He internally berates himself for defaulting to anger when she had also probably been scared and upset. But thinking she had died in that tornado just for attempting to recover his equipment had struck something so deep within him that his brain had reacted irrationally.
He stews in his remorse for a moment longer before admitting a truth that might be a little too vulnerable, a little too revealing of his deep and unwavering love for her, but he has to get it off his chest.
ââŚYou just scared me half to death, darlinâ. I canât lose you...I canât. It would tear me apart worse than a damn tornado ever could.â His whispered words are so raw and tinged with devastation that her breath hitches against his chest.
Slowly, she peels herself away from his comforting embrace to get a good look at him, and what she finds makes her heart clench in her chest. ďżź
ďżźHis eyes are red and glassy, obvious signs that heâd been crying. His muscles are taught with anxiety, like every fiber in his body had been tense ever since she fled his truck. His hair is slightly tousled and she instantly knows heâd been running his hand through it the way he does when heâs stressed.
The thought that she could cause him this much worry, this much pain, sucks the breath from her lungs and makes her feel dizzy.
âI only tried to save the equipment because I knew how important the research was to you,â she whispers, her voice still shaky but full of sincerity.
âI know how much it means to you, finding a way to keep these tornadoes from causing so much damage to innocent lives. I just- I wanted to do something brave and selfless for you, the way you always have for me,â she admits softly, swallowing as she meets his gaze.
His lips part slightly at her admission, the reverence in her words staggering. Hearing that she cares for him, finds him brave and selfless, wants to return the way he makes her feel, fills his heart with a love so deep he feels like heâs drowning in it.
âY/N, youâre-â he rasps, pausing to clear his throat when he hears how raw and weak his voice sounds.
âYouâre so damn sweet. Your heart is so big. Thatâs what I love about you. But please, donât be as stupid as me. I throw myself headfirst into danger so much because I donât think firstâŚmy judgement gets clouded by the thought of helping someone and I get tunnel vision. Which has put me in one too many potentially life-ending scenarios,â he murmurs, his hands squeezing her slightly as they rest on her shoulders.
âI canât- I wonât let you be that careless. You mean too much to me.â
Her eyes widen at the tenderness in his voice, the affection and worry dripping from every word. It feels like their conversation is breaching on something deeper, something much more vulnerable and terrifying.
Her mind is hung up on his soft thatâs what I love about you. Even hearing the word love directed at her from the mouth of Tyler Owens makes her head spin and her face heat up, and sheâs unsure if sheâs even breathing anymore.
âTylerâŚâ she manages, her voice threatening to break with the overwhelming swirl of emotions running through her. She canât help herself, knows that sheâs finally going to put it out there, tell him how she feels no matter how scary it might be.
âI love-â his lips are on hers before she can even finish. The sensation of Tyler kissing her is unlike anything sheâs ever felt, and sheâs damn sure she never wants him to stop.
His large hand tenderly cups her cheek while the other snakes into her hair, tangling his fingers through the strands as he pulls her even closer. She gasps softly as his grip tightens, his lips moving against her own with an almost feral desperation.
The salt from her tears mixes with his sweet taste â something like honey and peppermint â and she melts further into him and his warmth. She can feel him pour every ounce of his turbulent, pent-up emotions into the kiss, and it leaves her completely breathless.
Heâs waited for this moment for so long, and after thinking heâd lost her today, heâd be content to just kiss her like this for the rest of time. Reassuring himself thatâs sheâs still there, that sheâs his. Showing her what she means to him.
Finally getting a grip on his emotions, Tyler pulls away for a moment, wanting to make sure he hasnât misread the signs, misinterpreted what heâd felt brewing between them for so long.
But a wide, disbelieving grin spreads across her face as she fights to catch her breath, and he suddenly has no doubt that sheâs been his all along.
âIâve been waiting for that for- well, I donât even know how long,â she laughs breathlessly, slightly woozy from his intoxicating taste.
He huffs a laugh in return, his eyes shining with an overwhelming adoration for the woman before him. âYeahâŚI think Boone might owe Dexter and Lily some money,â he jokes softly, his thumb gently brushing her rain-soaked hair away from her face.
His eyes roam over her, taking in every inch of her muddy clothes, her scraped up hands, the shallow cut on her temple. Regret courses through him at the way heâd raised his voice at her, even if it had been out of fear of losing her.
âAre you sure you werenât hurt?â He murmurs, his voice lower and more serious than before. She gently nods, her hand moving to rest on top of his own as it cups her face.
âIâm ok, promise. Itâs just a little scrape from slipping in the mud,â she reassures him, sensing his lingering gaze on her slightly bloodied face. She can practically feel the apprehension in his stare, his constant worry for her well-being so endearing that she just wants to kiss him again and again.
âI promise, Ty. And I swear, I wonât do anything like that again. I just got lost in the moment and didnât think before acting.â He nods slowly, letting the sincerity in her voice wash over her and comfort his racing mind. ďżź
âYouâd better not,â he teases softly, a ghost of a smile pulling at his lips. âIf weâre doing this thing, no more running headfirst into tornadoes, you hear? Canât have my girl acting like an irrational daredevil like me. Iâve been told sheâs smarter than that.â
She feels herself blushing as he calls her his girl, the title rolling off his tongue so naturally that it makes her heart skip a beat. Tyler watches as a hearty laugh escapes her and she leans into his touch, his own smile growing wider.
Suddenly nothing else has ever mattered beyond this moment of her in his arms, blushing and laughing like heâs the funniest damn man in the world.
âOk, alright,â she giggles with feigned exasperation. âNo more running into tornado paths, I swear. Wranglerâs honor. But you have to swear it too. Youâre an adrenaline junkie and a trouble maker, even more than I am.â
He chuckles at her playful jab, his body feeling lighter than it has all day as he finally lets the tension within him fade. Sheâs safe, he tells himself over and over. Sheâs alive, sheâs teasing him like she always does, and sheâs got him smiling like a damn fool.
âBaby,â he mutters with that teasing glint in his eye, âyou need to get my head checked if I ever run away from you and into a tornado. No man in his right mind would leave a gorgeous thing like you for some wind.â
Before she can reply to his ridiculous comment, he captures her lips once more with his own, relishing in the way she smiles against him as he pulls her closer.
This is all Tylerâs ever wanted - all heâs ever needed. Just her, safe and sound, loving him in all his flaws and worry for her.
If her running into that damn field led to this moment, this reality where sheâs finally his, then so be it. Heâs never been more grateful for a tornado.

Stay Stay Stay Pairing - Tyler Owens x Fem!Reader Summary - Until you met Tyler, you'd only had shitty boyfriends who would leave at the first sign of trouble or when you started to get too attached. Tyler Owens however is there to show you that he's in it for the long run, even when he finds out you're pregnant with his child. Word Count - 4.5k Warnings - Pregnant Reader, but this is just 4k words of pure fluff based on Taylor Swift's Stay Stay Stay ngl.
You woke up feeling miserable. You had barely gotten any sleep, staying up most of the night crying, and all you could think about was how stupid the fight you and Tyler had seemed now. You glanced over at the clock on your bedside table, and shot up when you realized how late it was. Tyler might have already gone, and now you wouldnât get the chance to say how sorry you were. The fear of that gripping your chest had you rolling out of bed and out the door. What you saw in the hallway however, had you stopping in your tracks.Â
As soon as you shut the door behind you, Tyler jolted awake from his spot on the floor, rubbing his eyes. He was still in his clothes from last night, the button up and jeans, complete with cowboy boots. âYou stayed out here all night?â You asked, emotion tight in your throat.Â
Tyler looked up at you, brushing his hair back from his face. âOf course I did. Didnât know if you might need me or not after those nightmares youâve been having.âÂ
âBut - but I threw something-â
âYour phone.â He informed you.Â
Heat rushed to your face in embarrassment. â-My phone at you.âÂ
âI donât know if Iâd really say âat meâ. If so, your aim was pretty off for someone who used to play baseball.â He said, and he started to move so he could stand up.Â
Before he could though, you bent down and scrambled into his lap, wrapping your arms and legs around him as the tears fell down your cheeks.Â
He let out a surprised grunt, but put his arms around you as well. âTo be honest, not the greeting I was expecting this morning.â He said in a strained voice, probably because you were squeezing him so tight.Â
âI thought you left already, and I didnât want you to leave mad at me, because if something happened to you out there. . .â You wondered if he could even understand you with the way your tears messed with your breathing, but you had to tell him. The thought of him leaving while the two of you were mad at each other made you feel sick.Â
âHey,â Tyler started running a hand through your hair, the comfort of the motion easing into you. âI wasnât about to leave without talking to you. I told them Iâd catch up.â You closed your eyes as you felt his lips against the side of your head. âAnd you know I canât leave without my good luck kiss.âÂ
You pulled back so you could look at him when you said this. âIâm so sorry. I donât know why I got so mad. Iâve just been all over the place lately, and I feel like Iâm losing my mind. Iâm mad one second, the next Iâm sobbing, then I canât keep my eyes open, and the next second I feel like Iâm going to die if Iâm not jumping your bones-â
Tyler reached up and brushed your tears away with his thumb. âThat oneâs my favorite.â He said with a smirk.Â
You leaned forward, resting your forehead against his. âI think Iâm going crazy.âÂ
âBaby, you chase tornados in your spare time. Pretty sure by most peopleâs standards you are crazy,â he said, putting some hair behind your ear.Â
You shook your head, and playfully smacked him in the chest. âIâm serious. I mean I know I get a little crazy around-â the thought hit you like a freight train. âTyler, whatâs today?âÂ
His brow furrowed, his smirk turning into a frown. âSunday . . .â
âNo! I mean what day of the month?â Were the calculations you were doing in your head right? Had the time passed that quickly?Â
âItâs the 11th. Why?âÂ
Oh god. You gripped his face in your hands. âTy, Iâm late.âÂ
Tyler squinted at you. âDid you have somewhere to go . . . ?âÂ
You shook your head, your eyes wide with panic. âNo, Tyler. Iâm late.â You grabbed one of his arms and put his hand on your stomach, giving him a significant look.Â
It was funny, how you could almost see the gears moving in his mind. It was like when he was trying to decide what storm to chase. You could tell the exact moments your words and actions landed. His eyes widened, and he glanced down at your stomach, then you. âYouâre late . . . For that?âÂ
You nodded, watching his face for his reaction. It was an accident of course. The two of you tried to be careful, but one night a couple of months ago after an insane chase . . . The adrenaline got the better of both of you. While you had known you could get pregnant, you thought the chances of it happening the one time you didnât use protection couldnât be that high. Well, the universe might be proving you wrong. You werenât sure how you felt about the possibility, but you were damn sure terrified of what Tyler might be thinking.Â
You didnât need to be.Â
A slow grin started to spread on his face, and within seconds you found yourself hoisted over his shoulder and into the air.Â
Letting out a little shriek, you grabbed a hold of his shirt. âTyler! Put me down!âÂ
âCanât! Got to go buy a pregnancy test.â He said, giving you a smack on the ass that made you squeal again.Â
âWe canât! Iâm not wearing pants!âÂ
âYou donât need pants to take a pregnancy test!â He said.Â
A laugh left your lips at that, but then you smacked his back to get his attention. âTy, what about the crew? Theyâre waiting on you. I can take the test, and call you-â
He put you down then, his hands holding your face and making you look at him. âIf you think there is anything more important to me right now than this, youâre wrong.â Â
It almost embarrassed you that you had thought for even a second any different. âI might not be, you know? I could actually be losing my mind.âÂ
Tyler shrugged. âEither way, thereâs no place Iâd rather be right now than here with you.â He said, sliding his hands down to grab your own, then leaned forward to give you one of the sweetest kisses youâve ever had in your life, all gentle and tender, enough to almost bring tears back to your eyes. âNow, thereâs my good luck kiss.â He said once he pulled away.Â
âAnd what do you need good luck for, huh Owens?â You asked, raising your eyebrows at him.Â
He smirked at you. âIâll tell you later.âÂ
And he did. In about five months after he shot fireworks up in a tornado to reveal you were having a boy, just like he wanted.Â
ââââââââ
âTy! I can pick up potatoes. Iâm barely showing.â You said, shaking your head at him as he dived in front of you to get the sack of potatoes before you could.Â
He put them in the grocery cart, leaning over it and crossing his arms. âSee, I know that, but the gentleman in me wonât let the woman carrying my son do something as lowly as pick up potatoes.âÂ
You rolled your eyes. It was sweet, but you knew it was also going to drive you crazy. âIf you donât let me do some things I might murder you in your sleep. I hope you know that.âÂ
Tyler raised his eyebrows at you, pretending to look confused. âThen who would reach all the stuff on the top shelf?â He asked, his expression morphing into a smirk as you crossed your arms over your chest.Â
âI guess Iâll have to find another tall, handsome cowboy. Shouldnât be too hard.â You teased, and then grabbed the cart, pushing it past him.Â
He stopped you, grabbing you around the waist, holding you back against his chest and pressing a kiss against your neck. âUnfortunately, youâll find Iâm very hard to replace.â He murmured against your skin.Â
You couldnât help but laugh, elbowing him in the side. âAll right cowboy, if youâre going to not let me pick anything up heavier than three pounds, go do me a favor and get the water. Lily said you guys are running low, and the weather conditions for the weekend look rough.âÂ
Tyler pressed another kiss against your neck, and then let you go. âWhatever you say maâam.âÂ
You watched him walk away, a sight you always enjoyed in those jeans, then hurried up to get as many of your groceries as you could before Tyler came back to not let you do anything again.Â
âWell, look who it is.âÂ
Oh god, you knew that voice. It was one you hadnât heard in years now, and one you hoped never to hear again. You almost didnât want to turn around so you could pretend it wasnât there, but you knew this person wasnât going to allow that to happen. It would hurt his ego too much. Turning around, you let out a sigh at the familiar face. âHey, Charles.âÂ
Your ex was a dick. In fact almost all of your exes were dicks. Until you started dating Tyler, you hadnât known what it was like to date someone that put you above themselves. Charles was no different. In fact, he was one of the worst, and the way he was looking at you right now made you want to throw up. Or maybe that was the morning sickness . . .Â
âIâve got to say,â he looked you up and down. âYouâre looking good.âÂ
Nope, it wasn't morning sickness. âThanks.â You replied, moving your cart so you could go around him. Hopefully you could make a quick escape and pretend this whole interaction had never happened. âIt was good seeing you.â Lies.Â
He grabbed the cart, stopping you in your tracks. âWait a second. Donât you think we should catch up some? I mean itâs been-â
âFive years.â You answered, your hands squeezing the handle of the cart.Â
He smirked. âYou kept track?âÂ
You wanted to smack that expression off his face, âto celebrate.âÂ
The nice facade faded upon your words. âYou know, I thought maybe youâd changed over the years, but it seems like youâre still a-â
âGot the waters!â You breathed a quick little sigh of relief as Tyler came to a stop beside you, carrying not one, but two packs of water. He placed them in the cart, flipped his baseball cap around backwards, and put his hand on the small of your back. âWhoâs this?â Tyler asked with his charming grin.Â
You took a step closer to Tyler, not because you were scared of Charles, but because you liked the comfort of his presence. Something you never felt with the douche in front of you now. âYou remember me telling you about Charles? This is him.âÂ
To Charles, Tyler showed no response to the name, but you felt the hand on your back press a little harder against your skin. Tyler turned to look at you, and there was a little glimmer in his eyes when he spoke. âI donât actually. Are you sure youâve mentioned someone named Charles before?âÂ
You had to bite back a smirk once you realized what he was up to. âYeah, I think so.â You played along.Â
âHmmm, I must not have thought it was that important. Anyway, Tyler Owens.â He held out his hand to Charles, and you watched Charlesâs face with delight. Not only had Tyler made him feel unimportant, something you knew from experience he couldnât stand, but Tyler was . . . a big man. At least a foot taller than Charles, and more muscles on him than this guy could ever hope to have. You didnât however expect the look of disbelief that crossed his face.Â
âTyler Owens? The tornado wrangler?â He asked, almost too shocked to shake his hand, but then he collected himself and reached for Tylerâs.Â
âThe very same.â He said. âThough Iâve got to say, I think my favorite title is her future husband.â He said, nodding his head back to you.Â
Heat flushed straight to your face at the bold statement. Tyler and you hadnât talked much about marriage. You had thought that might be the logical next step, but you also didnât want to bring it up if it scared him away. With past boyfriends, including the one in front of you, it always had. You shouldâve known by now though that Tyler was nothing like that. You leaned into him more now, smiling as his arm went around you and his hand rested on your stomach.Â
âHer future-â Charles looked dumbfounded, and you also didnât miss the wince when Tyler shook his hand probably more roughly than necessary.Â
âGot to lock her down, you know? Plenty of other idiots have already let her go. Iâm not going to make the same mistake.â Tyler replied, giving you a smile full of mischief.Â
You placed your hand on top of the one he had on your stomach. âTy, Iâm having your baby. I donât think you have to worry about that.â You assured him, your smile widening as he kissed your cheek.Â
âYouâre - youâre pregnant?âÂ
Youâd almost forgotten Charles was there with Tylerâs sudden proclamation, but his words pulled your attention back to him. Turning to the side, you let him see the slight curve to your stomach. âYep. Four months to go before we meet our baby boy.âÂ
As soon as you said the words, Tylerâs face lit up with genuine excitement like it always did. âI canât wait.â He turned back to Charles, putting both of his arms around you protectively now. âHow do you two know each other again?â Tyler asked, and once again you had to fight back a laugh.Â
âIt doesnât matter.â You said, looking back up at Tyler with a soft smile. âWe need to be getting out of here anyway right babe?âÂ
âYes maâam. Well, it was nice to meet you, Chuck.â Tyler said, stepping back from you so he could grab a hold of the cart with one hand, taking your hand in the other.Â
You couldnât hold your laughter back anymore at that point, entwining your fingers together as you followed him to the register, leaving Charles standing dumbfounded in your wake.Â
________________
It was the thing you had been the most scared of happening. You had no one else to blame other than yourself though. You were the one who had insisted that Tyler go on the chase. It was supposed to be a large storm, and you reminded him that it was the last one heâd probably go on for a while since the season was ending, as was your pregnancy. You had faith that he would be careful, knowing that he wouldnât risk anything that would endanger him from meeting his son.Â
What you hadnât expected however, was your water to break three weeks early.Â
It was safe to say you were panicking when you called your sister to come get you, and by the time they wheeled you back to your room, you were close to a full blown meltdown. âI canât do this without him.â You told her, holding your stomach as if that could keep him in, tears streaming down your face. âAnd heâs at least five hours away! What if I donât have that long?!â
Your sister, who was more calm than you, grabbed your hand, giving it a squeeze. âHe will make it, Iâm sure. Youâve texted him right?âÂ
You bit your lip, and when your sister gave you a look, you blurted. âI didnât want to ruin his chase! I thought Iâd wait to see if the doctor was even going to take me!âÂ
âOh my god.â She reached into your bag and grabbed your phone. You held out your hand for it, but she was already texting away. âThere, done.âÂ
âWhat did you say?âÂ
But she didnât answer, instead she waited about ten seconds and said, âhe said heâs on his way.âÂ
You nodded, watching as she put your phone back in your purse. God you hoped he was going to make it. The thought of doing this without him was terrifying. You were already scared enough that something was wrong because of how early he was. Having to have this baby without Tyler by your side, reassuring you the whole way, seemed impossible.Â
A few minutes later, while you were lost in your thoughts, the door to your room opened and a nurse walked in. âHey, honey, howâre we doing?âÂ
âSheâs panicking.â Your sister replied for you.Â
You glared at her. âMy boyfriend, heâs - heâs not going to be able to get here for a few hours, do you think I have that long?âÂ
She gave you a sympathetic smile. âWell thatâs according to him Iâd say, because I speak from experience when I say babies donât wait for no one.â She said.Â
Oh god, he wasnât going to make it. You just knew it. He wasnât going to make it in time, and you would have to try and do this without him, and you didnât think that you could. You needed him. You needed him so badly it added to the pain you were already in, and the worst part was that it was your fault. If you hadnât forced him to go on that chase -Â
âIâm here, Iâm here!âÂ
To your complete and utter shock, Tyler came sliding into your room, taking his cowboy hat off and hurrying to your side.Â
âTy?â Was all you could think to say.
âDid I miss anything?â Tyler asked, taking your hand in his own and looking at your nurse.Â
âDad, I assume?â The nurse said with a smile.Â
Tyler beamed at the use of the word. âAbout to be.âÂ
âIn that case, you havenât missed a thing yet. Weâre about to take some vitals and get this show on the road.â She informed him. âGlad you could make it.â She said, and left your room. Your sister, sensing the two of you needed some alone time, followed close behind.Â
Once they had both left, your thoughts caught up to your brain, and you squeezed Tylerâs hand. âTyler Owens, Iâve never been more happy to see you in my entire life, but how the hell did you get here so fast?âÂ
He gave you an affectionate smile, and reached up to wipe away the tears you didnât even know youâd still been crying. âYeah, so about that chase . . . I never went.âÂ
âYou - you what?âÂ
He started stroking the back of your hand with his thumb. âYou were less than a month away from having our son. I knew youâd blame yourself if I didnât go, but I also knew if something happened while I was away . . . Youâd blame yourself too. So I just . . . stayed at a hotel the past couple of nights.âÂ
You couldnât even be mad. He knew you too well, and the relief you felt that he was here to help you was too much to be upset. âI was so scared you were going to miss it.âÂ
âNot for the largest tornado in the world baby.â Tyler said, bringing your hand up to his lips to kiss it. âYou ready to do this?â He asked as they started wheeling in the equipment.Â
Not five minutes ago you were horrified. The effect of Tylerâs presence on your emotions was remarkable. With him by your side, you had no doubts that you could do this. You could have this baby. âNow that youâre here? Definitely.âÂ
Tyler leaned forward to give you the last kiss the two of you would have before you were parents, the smile on his lips unmistakable.Â
ââââââââ
âHe looks so much like you itâs like you birthed him.â You said with a tired laugh. It was god knows how many hours later, you had never been more tired in your life, and somehow you and Tyler had squeezed into your tiny hospital bed. You were leaning against his shoulder, eyes glued to the baby he held in his arms that was looking up at you both curiously.Â
âNot completely. I know that nose anywhere.â He said, gently tapping your son in the nose. Then, for the first time since his son had been placed in his arms, he looked at you, the unmistakable glint of tears in his eyes. âHeâs perfect.âÂ
You knew that you were already emotional. You were exhausted, overwhelmed and a million other things at once, but the way Tyler was looking at your son, then at you? Your whole body seemed to light up with warmth. It was love all over his face, pure, intense love, and you didnât think youâd ever be able to forget what it looked like again. You felt too choked up to speak, so you slipped your arm through his to curl your hand around his bicep, and turned your head to kiss his shoulder.Â
A smile formed on your face as Tyler looked back at your son, that adoring expression not fading for a second. âThis is the best day of my life so far.âÂ
âSo far?â You said curiously.Â
âWell, you havenât agreed to marry me yet.â He replied, grinning over at you.Â
Your smile widened, giving his arm a little squeeze. âTy, you havenât asked.âÂ
âI havenât?â Tyler said, pretending to look confused. âItâs a great proposal. Youâll just have to wait and see.âÂ
You rolled your eyes, but the thought of Tyler proposing to you made you feel giddy. âDoes it involve fireworks in a tornado?â You teased.Â
He shook his head. âNah, been there, done that. Boone would love it though.â Tyler shifted your son, who cuddled right against his chest. âBy the way, the crewâs waiting outside with your sister.âÂ
You sat further up, wincing when you moved too quickly. âJeez Tyler, how long have they been out there?âÂ
âSince they dropped me off.â He admitted.Â
âYou mean none of them went on the chase either?â You said in shock.Â
Tyler shook his head again, âThey said this was going to be better than any tornado.âÂ
Your throat clogged with emotion again, and you really hoped this crying at the drop of a hat wasnât going to last long. âGo get them! They deserve to see him!âÂ
He reached up, brushing a tear away from your face. âAre you sure? I know how tired you are, and I can tell them to come back tomorrow.âÂ
âI can sleep when theyâre gone. Right now I want them to see what they gave up a chase for.â You said, holding out your arms for the baby.Â
Tyler leaned forward, giving you a kiss on your forehead and handing your son over as gently as if he was made of glass. You smiled as he snuggled right up to your chest, and knew that there was no better feeling in the world than this right here. When you looked up, Tyler was staring at the two of you as if he was trying to memorize this moment. âI love you.â He said finally.Â
You felt like you could float at that moment, so light and loved. âWe love you too.â You told him, and the softest smile formed on his face. âGo,â you told him before you started crying again. âWeâre not going anywhere.â You joked.Â
âYou better not.â He played along, giving you a mock stern look, and then he went outside the door.Â
Not ten seconds later you heard a cheer from outside your door, and you couldnât help but let out a chuckle at their enthusiasm. Of course, they were shushed by nurses, and then Tyler brought them all in.Â
You smiled at them as your sister, Lily, Boone, Dex and Daniâs eyes all went straight to the baby in your arms. Lily, Dani, your sister and Dex rushed forward to get a better look and started cooing over him, the biggest smiles on their faces while Boone hung back, eyes wide like he couldnât believe the baby was a real thing.
âWe got you guys something.â Dex said, holding up some familiar looking material as Tyler got back into the bed with you. He handed him the shirts, and Tyler unfolded them, letting out a laugh before showing them to you. It was similar to the normal shirts, but instead of Tylerâs face, it was a baby with a cowboy hat. That would have been hilarious enough, but instead of saying, ânot my first tornadeoâ it said, âthis is my first babeo.âÂ
âOh my god, itâs so cheesy. I love it.â You said with a laugh yourself.Â
âWe also got little man . . .â Dani held up a little onesie that said, âmini wranglerâ on it with their tornado logo.Â
You grinned, looking down at the bundle of cuteness in your arms. âItâs perfect.â You said, turning your smile to them. âThank you guys for bringing Ty by the way, and staying. I would have understood if you all went on the chase.âÂ
âAre you crazy? We werenât going to miss this.â Lily said, giving your son a little wave.Â
Your eyes went over to Boone though, still standing back a little ways. The man who had gone into tornados and helped shoot fireworks and rockets up into them was looking at the baby in your arms like it was a bomb. âHey Boone, you want to hold him?â You asked.Â
âOh, I donât - I wouldnât even know how-â
But Dani was already pushing him towards you. âItâs all right Boone, you got this.â You reassured him, sitting up a little more to hand him your son.Â
âMake sure you get the back of his head.â Tyler said, watching with the eyes of a hawk as you gently placed him in Booneâs arms.Â
âWoah.â Boone said, as he looked down at him.Â
Tyler wrapped his arm around your shoulder, and now that your arms were free, you curled into his side, resting your head on his chest and wrapping your arm around his stomach.Â
âT, man! He looks just like you!â Boone said, and you smiled at the excitement in his voice.Â
âExcept for the nose.â Tyler said, and you found your eyes closing as Tyler pressed a kiss to the top of your head.Â
He was so comfortable, and you were so tired. You felt yourself starting to drift off as his thumb brushed up and down your shoulder. It was hard not to when you felt so safe and loved, surrounded by your family, your new baby and the love of your life.Â
Tyler could sense it, and he leaned down to whisper in your ear. âYou want me to kick them out?âÂ
You shook your head, tightening your grip on him. âThey can stay.â You murmured, nuzzling into him. âMake sure Boone doesnât get too excited and drop our baby.â You joked.Â
âYes maâam.â Tyler responded with a chuckle, pulling you closer. âYou go ahead and rest. I'll be here when you wake up.âÂ
âI know.â You mumbled sleepily with a soft smile. âYou always stay.â

wrong name
pairing: tyler owens x best friend!reader
summary: you were doing a great job suppressing your feelings for your best friend until you hooked up with a guy and called out tylerâs name in bed. but itâs fine, tyler would never find out, right? right?
word count: 3.4k
warnings: smut, unprotected sex, car sex, fingering, praise kink, dirty talk, minors DNI (18+ only)
It had been one week since the most mortifying moment of your life.
Youâd gone on a first date with a guy named Finn because thatâs what you do when youâre trying to get over your crush on your best friend. You hope that maybe youâll meet a guy that youâll fall harder for and stop crushing on the guy who would never see you like that.
So, you went back to his place after dinner, and the sex was mediocre at best.
At first, Tyler only popped into your head for second. You imagined how much better it would feel if it was his hands running over your body. Then, you had more intrusive thoughts. Like the thought of Tyler bending you over and fucking you.
Itâs only because you were desperate. There was nothing worse than trying to pretend you were having a good time when you were just bored out of your mind.
So, you suggested to Finn that he should blindfold you.
From there, your imagination really soared, and you allowed yourself to believe you were with Tyler.
It was a fun little secret, just for you.
Until you both came, and you called out Tylerâs name and not his.
You were praying youâd spontaneously combust because you couldnât face him after that. You quickly scrambled back into your clothes and went home.
You were doing okay at pretending it never happened. When you were lying in bed at night, the memory liked to sneak up on you and mortify you all over again.
So, you were boycotting dates for the moment because you couldnât risk doing it again.
You had a boring night of wine and a movie planned for yourself when Tyler called you. âHey, Tyler? Whatâs up?â You asked him, cheerily.
âYou got any plans tonight? I was thinking about going out to a bar.â He suggested.
Even over the phone, his voice ran right through you. Goosebumps ran down your arms as you tried to hide your excitement. âThat sounds great. Pick me up at 8?â You suggested.
âSounds perfect, see you soon.â He replied.
You hung up the phone and flopped backwards onto your bed. The heat rushed to your cheeks. You had to fight the urge to giggle and kick your feet.
Youâd been friends with Tyler for years, which didnât mean you stopped getting butterflies around him. You just got better at hiding it.
You both had been through a lot together, and you didnât want to jeopardize it by letting he find out you were harboring feelings for him.
So, you picked out a cute black dress to wear. One that Tylerâs eyes would linger over, but heâd never admit it. Just like every time the two of you went out to a bar.
Youâd just finished getting ready whenTylerâs red truck pulled up outside your apartment. You quickly ran down the stairs to greet him.
âThere she is,â he said, his eyes running down your body as he got out of the truck. That look of awe was enough to make you feel dizzy.
You could feel the butterflies start to swarm as he walked closer to you. âYou look gorgeous as always.â He said, taking your hand and spinning you in a circle.
You thanked him as he pulled you in for a quick hug.
âYour chariot awaits.â He joked, opening the passenger door for you.
The drive there went by in a flash. You and Tyler knew each other like the back of your hands, so you could easily spend hours talking about nothing and everything.
âSo, any particular reason you wanted to go out tonight?â You asked, looking over at Tyler as you both took a seat at the bar. You knew Tylerâs favorite solution for problems at work was going out drinking with you. No one could calm Tyler down the way you could.
âCanât it just be because I wanted to hang out with my best friend?â He asked, cocking his head to the side. You rolled your eyes at him, swatting his arm. âWhile I am a delight, I know thatâs not it.â You encouraged him, letting your hand linger on his forearm.
His eyes darted down. The way your small hand was gripping onto his muscular arm was enough to distract him. You quickly pulled your hand away, feeling slightly embarrassed after seeing his reaction.
âJust tornado stuff. We had this big opportunity to get a bunch of data, but some of the equipment malfunctioned. We lost almost everything.â He explained. He was eager to move the conversation past how he had almost malfunctioned because you grabbed his arm.
You gave him a small sympathetic smile. âIâm sorry, Tyler. Thatâs frustrating. Youâll figure it out. I mean, youâre the tornado wrangler after all.â You said, cheesily trying to cheer him up. Tyler chuckled and looked down at his hands.
Ever since Tyler had been branded the âTornado Wrangler,â you loved to tease him about it.
âOh, câmon, you know I hate when you call me that.â He groaned, smiling at you. You cheekily shrugged your shoulders.
âI gotta go to the bathroom real quick. Can you watch my drink?â You asked him. Tyler quickly nodded, sliding your drink over in front of him. You rushed towards the bathroom, where you assumed thereâd be a line.
âTwo shots of tequila please,â Tyler heard a man come up to the bar and order beside him.
He didnât pay a lot of attention to it, until he saw the man down both shots back to back, out of the corner of his eye. âRough day?â Tyler joked, looking over at the man.
âRough week,â the man corrected him, with a grim expression. Tyler looked at the manâs face, not being able to shake the feeling that he knew him from somewhere.
âWait, do we know each other? You look familiar.â Tyler said, furrowing his eyebrows as he thought. The man gave him an awkward smile and shrugged. âI donât know. I donât think so, man.â He said, knowing heâd never seen Tyler before.
Thatâs when he saw Tylerâs eyes light up in recognition. âOh, wait. Youâre Finn, right?â He asked him.
Finnâs expression only became more anxious and worried. âYeah, umm. I am, but how do you know my name? I donât think weâve ever met.â He asked.
Tyler quickly shook his head, trying to assure the man who was growing more nervous. âNo, we havenât met. You went on a date with my friend Y/N last weekend. She showed me your picture before you guys had your date.â Tyler said.
Finn nodded in recognition. All the memories of that night came rushing back to him. âOh, yeah. That explains it.â Finn said, sheepishly. It was clear to Finn that this man he was speaking to didnât know anything about how that date went.
âSorry, donât want to be rude. Iâm Tyler, by the way.â Tyler said, quickly shaking Finnâs hand. Finn stared blankly back at him. âTyler?â He asked, feeling his blood run cold. Tyler nodded, giving Finn a friendly smile.
Meanwhile, you were on your way back to the bar.
âHey, Tyler. Iâm back.â You said, reaching to grab your drink back from Tyler. Your gaze drifted past Tyler to the man that was standing beside him.
âHey, Y/N. Good to see you.â Finn said, with a fake smile. You felt yourself freeze. You wanted to run away, but you couldnât convince your feet to move.
âOhâuh, Finn. Yeah, good to see you.â You nervously lied. Your eyes darted between Tyler and Finn. You were praying Finn hadnât found out Tylerâs name. You were also praying he hadnât told Tyler what happened.
âI guess you havenât told your friend, Tyler, here that our date was kind of a bust.â He said, coldly.
You wrapped your hand around Tylerâs bicep, trying to tug him towards you. You wanted Tyler to get the hint that you really wanted to leave.
Tyler turned to face you. He saw the pure panic in your eyes. âYou okay?â He asked you, quietly.
You tried to form the word âno,â but no sound would come out of your mouth. All you could imagine was Finn telling Tyler what happened. You could practically see the way that Tylerâs face would change.
âI think the guy deserves to know.â Finn said, noticing the way you were tensed up. You werenât hard to read in this moment, but Finn had been humiliated when you said the wrong name. So, he wanted revenge.
âThatâs none of his business.â You said firmly. You refused to look Tyler in the eye. You were worried that if you did, heâd somehow see into your soul and know what happened.
âLetâs go.â Tyler said, standing up and wrapping his hand tightly in yours. Tyler knew how uncomfortable Finn was making you and wanted to get you out of there as quick as possible.
Tyler turned to leave, pulling you with him when Finn yelled after you both.
âWe hooked up, but she called out your name, not mine.â Finn said.
You felt the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Your stomach sank. You felt like the floor was going to open it up and pull you under.
You tugged your hand away and ran out of the bar and into the parking lot. Tyler was trying to process what heâd just heard.
He turned around to face Finn, who had a grin on his face. âThe lady told you to shut up.â Tyler practically growled, shoving Finn against the bar.
Tyler turned on his heel to follow you towards the car.
When he got outside, he saw you standing by the passenger side of the truck. Your arms were crossed, and your eyes were focused on the ground.
âSweetheartââ Tyler started to say before you cut him off.
âI want to go home.â You snapped. Your tone came out harsher than you meant to.
Tyler slowly nodded. He didnât want to push you to talk about something you didnât want to talk about. You both got into the car in complete silence.
Tyler hesitated before putting the keys in the ignition. He glanced over at you. He could see your eyes starting to water as you still refused to look at him.
He cautiously reached over to let his fingers interlace with yours. âWill you please look at me, sweetheart. Iâm not going anywhere. Youâre not scaring me away. I promise.â He said, softly.
You hesitantly looked over at him. He gave you a soft smile, trying to calm you down. âFinn was a douchebag for telling me, but Iâm not going anywhere.â He assured you. You softly squeezed his hand.
He used his other hand to brush a piece of hair behind your ear. âSoâŚyou were calling out my name, huh?â Tyler asked you, with a cocky smirk.
Your eyes went wide. You tugged your hand away from his and covered your face with your hands. âTyler,â you complained, dragging out his name.
He chuckled to himself. âI wasnât trying to tease you.â He said, holding his hands up in surrender.
You peeked at him through your fingers. âThatâs exactly what youâre doing, Owens.â You said, groaning to yourself.
He shook his head. Then, you felt him grab both your hands. His rough calloused skin scratching against your soft hands. He moved your hands away, looking you in the eye.
âI was just offering to make your little fantasies a reality.â He said in a low voice.
You leaped across the car, grabbing the collar of his shirt and kissing him. His hand flew to the back of your neck as he kissed you back.
You could taste the liquor on his lips. The kiss was sloppy and hungry. Youâd both wanted this for too long to be patient. His fingers weaved through your hair, holding on tightly.
His other hand grabbed your waist. His fingers caressed the silky material of your dress. His mind could only think about how much softer your skin would be under his touch.
You seemingly read his mind. âGo ahead,â you mumbled against his lips. You could feel his lips curve up into a smirk. He slipped his fingers under your short dress, caressing your upper thigh.
He noticed the goosebumps that were covering your legs. It only encouraged him more. His hand slowly moved higher up your thigh.
You whimpered against the kiss. You felt the familiar aching between your legs. You needed his touch like you needed air. âSo needy for me, baby,â he said, cockily.
The pet name sent a shiver rolling down your back. You bucked your hips up against nothing. âPlease,â you begged him.
He rubbed his thumb across your clothed heat. A small wet patch had formed in your panties. Another whine came out of you.
He quickly pushed your panties to the side and plunged a finger into your folds. You gasped, pulling out of the kiss. Your eyelids softly fluttered closed.
âOh, fuck,â you mumbled softly. Tyler peppered kisses to your shoulder as you leaned your head back. Your senses were overwhelmed. There wasnât a single coherent thought in your head. He curled his finger inside of you, making you buck your hips against his hand.
âYou want another, sweetheart? Can you handle that?â Tyler asked you. You furiously nodded your head. He could feel his jeans becoming strained as he watched you writhe under his touch.
He added another finger, stretching you out. Your mouth hung open as you adjusted. Your wetness only allowed Tyler to move his fingers quicker. He quickly moved them in and out, watching as your breath quickened.
Your stomach started to tighten. You reached for anything to sink your nails into. Your hand landed on Tylerâs bicep.
He pressed his thumb into your clit. âTyler,â his name fell effortlessly from his lips. He quickened his pace. Every breath and moan from you made him go faster.
âCum for me, baby,â he praised you.
He started rubbing circles around your clit. You whined, helplessly grinding your hips down against his hand. You swore you were seeing stars. âOh fuck, Tyler, Iâm gonnaââ you swore, biting down your lip.
âGo ahead. Cum on my fingers.â He instructed. Your orgasm hit you. You clenched around his fingers, riding the high. âTyler, so good,â you mumbled. Your legs were shaking, and you threw your head back against the headrest. He continued pumping his fingers into you.
âThatâs it. There you go.â He softly praised you. Tylerâs fingers slowed down, helping you down from your peak. He brushed your hair out of your face and kissed your lips softly.
He wiped his soaked fingers on his jeans. You softly nipped at his bottom lip. His smirk grew again. âWhat do you think youâre doing, sweetheart?â He asked you.
Instead of answering him, you climbed across the console into his lap. Tyler pulled out of the kiss to watch you, in shock. His eyes were wide at the sight in front of him.
You were straddling his lap. Your skirt was hiked up to your hips while your cum was running down your thigh. Your makeup was smudged. Your lips were swollen. And you looked tired out from your orgasm.
âHold on, just a second, baby,â he said, quickly sliding his seat all the way back and leaning the chair as far back as it would go.
As soon as you both had more room, you were back all over each other. Tylerâs hands were possessively holding on your hips. You unbuttoned Tylerâs shirt as you kissed him. Feeling the last button come undone, you raked your nails over his bare chest. Tyler groaned into the kiss. Your touch was magic on him.
âNeed you,â he mumbled against your lips. You tugged his shirt off his shoulders and threw it in the back seat.
Tyler leaned back as you reached for the hem of your dress. He watched with a cocky smile as you pulled the dress over your head. Heâd just been fingers deep in you, but the sight of you in your bra and panties was enough to make him crazy.
âSo fuckinâ beautiful, darling,â he practically moaned. He grabbed the back of your neck and pulled you down to kiss him again. Your hands struggled to undo his belt while he unclasped your bra.
Having Tylerâs hands on you had your skin burning. You felt like your skin was on fire, in the best way. You could sense his desperation. His hands explored your body, not wanting to leave any part untouched.
His hands covered you, helping you undo his belt and unzip his jeans. He quickly tugged his jeans down to his knees.
You pulled out of the kiss to take a breath. Tyler buried his face in between your breasts, leaving sloppy kisses and a trail of saliva. He leaned forward, taking one of your nipples into his mouth.
Your eyes rolled back, grasping onto Tylerâs arms. âNeed you, Tyler,â you mumbled.
âAll you had to do was ask, baby.â He said, tugging down his boxers. His cock spring out, slapping against his stomach. He watched as you practically drooled over him. He brought you back into the moment as he pulled off your panties.
âYou want to do this right here? Or you wanna move into the backseat?â He asked you, smirking at your eager expression.
âRight here,â you said. The words came out rushed as you captured his lips in a kiss. He smirked against your lips. âHang on, sweetheart. If youâre gonna ride me, youâre gonna need this.â He said, grabbing his cowboy hat from the backseat and plopping it on your head. A bashful smile appeared on your face.
You shifted your weight, holding onto Tylerâs shoulders. âGo ahead, cowgirl.â He encouraged you with a wicked smile.
You slowly sunk yourself down onto his length. A low groan escaped Tylerâs lips at the feeling of you wrapped around him. âFuck, darling,â he moaned, grabbing at your hips. He helped lift you up and let you plunge back down on his cock.
âOh, Tyâ so good,â you mumbled, rolling your hips back into his.
Tyler took a mental picture of you riding him while wearing his hat. He wanted to remember it forever.
With his assistance, you sped up the pace. You were ramming your hips down against his. With each thrust, you could feel Tyler reaching deeper inside you.
âThis what you were thinking about with that other guy? Thinking about wrapping your sweet pussy around my cock. You fit perfect. Itâs like you were made for me.â Tyler praised you. His comments went straight to your core. Your legs started to shake.
His name fell from your lips. He bucked his hips up to meet yours halfway. âNeed toâŚf-f-faster,â you stuttered, feeling your muscles begin to tighten.
âDonât worry, Iâll help ya,â he assured you, grabbing a tight hold on your hips. He slammed you down on his cock.
You could feel him brush up against your g-spot. You clenched your eyes shut, a whimper escaping your lips. âThat the spot, sweetheart? Donât worry. Iâll give it the attention it needs.â He said, flipping your body over so he was on top.
âYou did so good, honey. But just let me do the work. You focus on cumming for me.â He instructed you.
He braced his leg against the console and started pounding into you. Your legs began to shake. You wrapped your hands around the headrest, your knuckles turning white.
âIâm almostââ you said, breathlessly. The noises bouncing off the truck walls were almost pornographic. You could hear every thrust. From Tylerâs low groans every time you squeezed around his cock to the sound his cock made as it slipped through your wetness.
His hand flew down to your clit, rubbing small tight circles. âCanât last much longer, darling,â Tyler moaned. You could tell from his erratic thrusts that he was telling the truth. You vision was starting to go white as the muscles in your abdomen contracted.
âOh, shit. Iâm gonnaâ oh, fuck, Tyler.â You called out as you came around him. Your walls clenched down around his cock, pushing him over the edge. âOh, fuck,â he groaned, bucking his hips into yours and he came inside you.
He collapsed against you, slowing his pace and bringing you both down from your highs. His sweaty body pressed against yours.
âSo, howâs that compare to what you were imagining?â Tyler asked you, pressing a chaste kiss to your lips.
You gasped for breath. âS-so much better,â you mumbled, breathlessly.

breaking point
tyler owens (twisters) x reader
words: 1.6k
warnings: 18+ only, smut, female receiving oral, p in v sex, unprotected sex, mentions of past hookups, love declarations (bc i have to make all my fics at least a little fluffy)
the legendary tornado wrangler won't get on his knees for just anybody. it's a position of vulnerability, especially as his head tips forward, exposing his throat.
but you're not a predator in this moment, not with your thighs spread apart and he's smiling up at you with that shit eating grin you know all to well.
âwhatever, you win.â you sigh. âjust eat me out.â
âthat wasn't what the bet was.â tyler says with a chuckle. âwhoever breaks first doesn't get to cum.â
it was a dumb and pointless bet, but one that was needed to remind both of you that you didn't in fact completely lack control and could handle being around each other without finding somewhere to hole up and fuck, leaving rest of the crew waiting for you to finish up.
âcome on, ty.â you pout, putting on your best pleading face. âi know you wanna taste me too.â
âyou got me there.â you watch as tylers pink tongue darts out to lick his lips. âof course i could always eat you out without letting you cum.â
âwe somehow managed three whole days of teasing each other without getting an orgasm. you're really gonna deny me of that?â you pout.
âwe'll see.â tyler hums, his eyes dropping to your pussy, spread open and put on display as you're sat perched on the edge of the bed.
you're about to open your mouth to give another snarky response, or beg and plead if you have to, whatever you need to get tylers mouth on you when he suddenly surges forward, hands pressing your thighs even further apart.
his tongue swipes through your folds, over and over in quick succession, tasting every inch of you that he can while dutifully ignoring your clit, not giving you that pleasure just yet. you hope that's his only punishment for giving in.
âgod, ty.â you moan, head tipping back as one of your hands comes to the back of his head, pushing his face even further against your pussy.
âso fucking delicious.â tyler moans, his words vibrating against your wet skin.
tyler can only tease for so long, soon his mouth moves to find your clit, circling around the sensitive bud before sucking it between his lips as you shout out.
he gives you no time to adjust to the sudden pressure, knowing you've been without it for longer than he'd like, but he's still not ready to just let you get away with losing your bet.
âgod, baby.â you let yourself fall backwards onto the bed, giving up looking tyler in the eye as you continuously moan so loud you wouldn't be surprised if the people in the motel room next to you came knocking on your door to complain.
tyler grabs your thighs, keeping them pulled apart as he eats you out, greedily slurping your juices, the wet sounds filling the room.
âkeep going.â you plead, hips raising up and down, grinding yourself against his face.
tyler gives up holding your thighs open with both hands, moving his finger to your entrance, pressing against it as he wets his digit until he's able to push into you as you let out a gasp.
his fingertip is rough against your walls as he keeps his finger pushed inside, continuing to pay attention to your clit while you adjust.
âmore, ty, please.â you whine, squeezing your pussy around his digit, knowing how much that usually entices him and gets him moving along, but not today, not when you have a punishment to receive.
tylers mouth softens, making you let out an excruciating high as your previously building high slows back down, breath coming hot and fast as he begins to pump his finger in and out of you, a slow steady motion that has your hips wiggling.
âstay still or you definitely won't come.â tyler commands, squeezing at your thigh, giving you a light warning.
âfine.â you huff, deciding to try and focus on the feeling of his finger pushing out of you. it's not hard or fast enough to really send you over the edge, until suddenly a second finger is pushed inside of you.
âtyler, i can't.â you beg, resorting to using his full name.
he completely ignores you, used to your whines and begs and pleads that he always eventually gives into. you'll just finish up helping out a town hit by a tornado only to try and convince him to ditch the motel room you rented for the night and just hit up the first place he can fuck you in.
neither of you really saw it as a problem until you accidentally traumatized boone when he went to grab something out of the truck only to find you two in the backseat, thankfully still mostly clothed.
your hips rise up, unable to control them but tyler knows exactly what it signifies, able to read your body as good as his own as his mouth rips away from you, knowing that his fingers inside of you isn't enough to make you cum without some sort of attention to your clit.
âstop! please keep going!â you scream out, not caring that your begging doesn't make sense as your pussy pulsates around his fingers, desperate for an orgasm.
âyou'll get to cum tonight.â tyler says, watching you let out a breath of relief as you were starting to worry he would stick to the beg wouldn't let you at all. âbut itll be with me inside of you. and im not done playing with you yet.â
you can't even argue as his mouth pecks at your clit, licking his lips every time he kisses your skin.
his fingers move in a fury, surely imagining it was his cock buried inside of you considering he's been without it for too long. you can hardly wait to feel him properly inside of you, having been relentlessly teased, knowing he tugged his jeans a bit lower on his hips often just to give you a view of the muscular lines leading underneath his belt.
âtyâŚâ you sigh out, back arching off the bed, wondering briefly how many hotel rooms you've fucked in, if you've reached every county in oklahoma and arkansas.Â
âyeah, i know. i need you too baby.â tyler gives your clit one last hearty suck before he stands. already shirtless from when he sensually stripped to successfully get you to break first.
you sit up quickly, hands pushing his out of the way to undo his belt buckle and push his jeans down along with his underwear all in one go.
his cock springs up, having been hard and pushing against his zipper since entering the hotel room with you, knowing he'd either break or get you to break.
âlay back.â tyler says, his eyes lowering and darkening seeing your hands so close to his cock.
you move up the bed but instead of laying on your back, you flip onto your stomach and spread your legs.
âoh, like that?â you can hear the amusement in tylers voice as the bed dips as he crawls on top of it, draping himself over your body.
you think he's going to give you a minute, maybe kiss your shoulder blades and rub his cock through your folds, but his head presses against your entrance, and his length is entering you so suddenly you can't help but scream out.
âshit.â tyler cusses, pushing the rest of the way into you. he wastes no time picking up speed, deciding he's teased you long enough.
âgod, ty!â you squeal, hands gripping into the sheets as you keep your thighs spread despite the force being applied, his hips slamming forward without control, needing to wreck you, needing to take you and stake his claim on your body again.
âyou're so fucking-â tyler lets out a growl, dropping his head as he puts more weight on you. âyou're so fucking warm and wet, baby. can't wait to fill you up.â
you haven't used condoms in forever. you began hooking up with tyler and quickly got on birth control so he could cum inside you like you so desired. the first time having you raw, he didn't even last five minutes.Â
âfuck me- fuck me harder.â you squeal. âcome on, give it to me, ty.â
you can feel the switch in his body. when his powerful muscles stop holding back, slamming full force into you, knowing you can take it, the one girl he's been able to find that can handle anything he throws at.
âi love you.â tyler whispers so quietly your ears barely pick up his words.
you flip over quickly, his cock only away from you for a moment before hes fucking you again, now looking into your eyes.
âi love you too, ty.â you haven't said it before. maybe it's just in the heat of the moment, but you don't think you'll regret it later.
tyler kisses you deeply, glad you both share the feelings beyond just hooking up, knowing things will change but feeling nothing but excitement for what waking up tomorrow will look like as tyler thrusts into you.
his cock swells inside of you, the tell tale sign that hes going to cum. you quickly move a hand down your torso to rub your clit, and all it takes is tylers lips against yours and his cum releasing inside of you for you to suddenly cum as well.
you moan into each other's mouths, a mix of curses and each other's names as tyler fucks you through your highs, feeling your body shake underneath his as you wrap your arms around his shoulders and tug him into you, feeling your sensitive nipples rub against his chest.
âgod, that was good.â you giggle, breathing deeply in time with tyler as he keeps his softening cock inside of you, not ready to separate yet when your bodies are so perfectly aligned.
âwe are never going that long without making love again.â tyler says, pressing a kiss to your forehead, but it doesn't distract from the wording he chose as you smile up at him.
ânever.â you vow.

Tyler Owens x Reader: Where You Belong
Prompt: you're caught in the middle of a tornado, tyler's there in the aftermath.
Word count: 6k
Warnings: angst, blood mention
A/N: surprise surprise, & not what i usually write, but twisters has recently been consuming my entire life. so here's an angsty lil imagine of hurt reader being comforted by the wrangler himself.
You made it about fifteen minutes down the road before you realized that youâd forgotten your phone⌠Again.Â
After patting down your pockets and digging through your tote bag the best you could without crashing the carâ you straightened yourself in the driverâs seat and sighed defeatedly.Â
Stupid, you thought. Although you werenât really that surprised by your mistake. Youâd never been particularly attached to your phone, and this certainly wasnât the first time youâd left it behind.Â
But youâd been trying to be more mindful about remembering it. And just like that, Tylerâs voice popped into your headâ no doubt scolding you for your carelessness. âWhat if something happened and I had to get a hold of ya?âÂ
Thanks to another wild storm system brewing all over the midwest, Tyler was out chasing again today. And although youâd checked in on him earlier in the day, you knew there was always the possibility that things changed. Storms shiftedâ gained power, sometimes his team (although rarely) got things wrong. A pang of guilt spread through your chest at the thoughtâ what if something happened to him out there and he needed to reach you?Â
You could turn back and get your phone, of course. But you were already so close to town. And all you needed was a bottle of shampoo and a birthday cake for Tyler. You could be in and out of Lawton in less than half an hour if you were quickâ home before he even knew youâd left your phone behind again.
What could really go wrong?
âŚ
âTalk to me, Daniâ what do you see?â Tyler asked into the walkie. Theyâd been tracking a handful of storms for the past few hoursâ Tyler watching the clouds, and Dani studying the radar. Right now, there were two that had peaked his interestâ One was formulating south, the other to the northeast.Â
âThe storm south has higher wind speeds, but I think itâll fade if it shifts. The other one has a weaker wind shear, but higher pressure. Either one has the chance to form or go, so I say trust your gut,â they answered. Â
Tyler shifted his grip on the steering wheel, studying the dark, circling motion in the distance.Â
âWhatâre you thinkinâ, T?â Boone asked, camera trained on Tyler.Â
He sunk his teeth into his bottom lipâ trying to focus.
âLess moisture, less potential for an updraft, but way higher winds if we go south. Northeast though⌠sheâs already got the motion and momentum, she just needs the winds to shift...âÂ
Boone stayed quietâ he knew that when Tyler talked out loud, it was generally rhetorical.Â
Tyler took his eyes off the sky to study the world around him for a moment.Â
âNo pressure, T,â Dani said through the walkie.Â
âYeah,â Lilly chimed in. âWe just spent all damn day chasing these thingsââ
âSouth,â he said suddenly. âI say letâs chase south.â
âŚ
Less than thirty minutes later, Tyler was standing in the middle of a wheat field with his hands on his hips and a frown on his face.Â
The storm had fizzled with the shifting winds, leaving them with nothing but a few scattered showers that mixed in with the sweat already pooling on his skin.Â
âSâalright, T,â Boone said encouragingly with a shrug. He clapped him on the back. âWe canât catch âem all.â
Tyler sighed before joining Dani where they sat on the edge of the truck, scanning for other potential storms in the area.Â
âWhatâs that there?â Tyler asked, pointing to what appeared to be a storm system heading west.Â
Dani frowned. âWhat the hell⌠I think thatâs the storm from earlierâ the one moving northeast.â
âSo it shifted?âÂ
âShifted?â Boone said, lowering his camera for a moment to glance towards Tyler. âWhere to? Can we make it in time?â
Tyler frowned, studying the movement.Â
âThatâs strange,â Dani mumbled under their breath. With a few clicks, they expanded the screen, showing a wider radius.
âWhatâs strange?â Boone asked.
Ignoring him, Tyler scanned the system, trying to trace the path without actually calculating it. âYou donât thinkââÂ
Dani glanced his way. âHoly shitââ
âHello?â Boone said. âYâall gonna share with the rest of the class?âÂ
âI think sheâs headinâ for Lawton,â Dani finally whispered.Â
And although heâd been thinking it, all the color drained from his face when it was actually spoken out loud.
âLawton?â Dexter asked, voice laced with concern.Â
âOh shit-â Lilly whispered. Â
Lawton was the closest city to where the two of you livedâ if it hit there, thousands of people could be in danger. And if it shifted again, even the slightest bitâ it could head right for your small town instead. Â
Despite the humidity, everything inside of Tyler went cold as he imagined you at homeâ puttering around the garden, blissfully unaware of what might be coming.Â
âWill you uh, pass meâ pass me my phone, Boone?â Tyler stammered, standing up from the truck bed.Â
Boone reached into the backpack scattered near his feet and handed over Tylerâs cell phone, placing it in his outstretched hand. Tyler muttered a quick thank you before walking a few strides away as he pulled up your contact information. Â
The call rang five times before making it to voicemailâ your sweet voice asking him to leave a message and youâd get back to him.Â
âHey, babyâ itâs me. Call me back as soon as you can. Alright, love ya.â
He clicked the phone off before immediately trying again.Â
âCâmon,â he muttered as the line continued to ring. âCâmon, baby, câmon,â he hummed nervously, kicking the grass with his boots when he heard your voicemail. âHeyâ me again. Listen, Iâm not trying to scare ya, but there might be a storm cominâ and I just wanna make sure youâre safe. Give me a call please.â
He paced back towards the group, sending you a quick text just for good measure as he did.Â
âAlright, whatâs the plan here?â Dexter asked.Â
But Tyler wasnât paying much attention as he obsessively dialed you for a third time.Â
âWhatâs wrong, T?â Boone wondered.Â
Without looking up from his phone, Tyler exhaled a frustrated breath. âSheâs never got her damn phone on herâ thatâs whatâs wrong.â The second he heard your voicemail for a fourth time, he chucked his phone towards his bag. âDamnit!âÂ
Boone swallowed thickly. âIâm sure sheâs fineââ
Tyler hung his head. After a moment, he nodded, although he wasnât entirely convinced that would remain the case if he didnât get in touch with you fast. He ran his hands through his hair and tried to breatheâÂ
You were fine, he told himself. You were home, youâd hear the alerts if they were necessary, you knew to get into the basement.Â
Tyler took a long, steadying breath. âDani, whatâs the speed of this thing?âÂ
âUh, itâs movingâ thirty-five miles per hour directly west. I think sheâs gaining speed, though.â
âAlright, sheâs fast,â Tyler remarked. âWe have to be faster. Letâs head home, ladies and gents, we can take cover at my place once I know everyoneâs safe.â
âYou got it, T,â Lilly said.Â
âStay safe everyone,â Dani replied as they all dispersed to their respective vehicles.Â
Tyler and Boone climbed back into the truck, tires screeching as they sped west towards Lawton, and home towards you.Â
âŚ
You were inside the bakery on Lowell Streetâ Tylerâs favorite place for any and all pastries, when you heard the thunder.Â
Although thunder in Oklahoma wasnât exactly a rare occurrence, it was enough to make you turn your attention outside, just to see what kind of storm you might be up against on the drive home.Â
âItâs gettinâ dark out there,â Gloria, the owner, said. She glanced at you over the counter and blew a strand of graying hair out of her face.Â
You nodded in agreement, jumping slightly when another crack of thunder rang through the air. âSounds like itâs getting closer,â you noticed.Â
âI still canât believe that boyfriend of yours goes out of his way to chase these storms. And his friends, too.â
You scoffed. âYeah, me either. Bunch of adrenaline junkies.â
âNot me,â Gloria smirked. âWe get enough chaos in this life, I donât need to be chasinâ it.â
You returned her smile, recognizing that you might have more in common with the sixty-something year old baker in town than you did your own boyfriend. But you supposed that your differences were what drew you to Tyler. He was brave and thrilling and so alive. Although what he did scared the absolute shit out of you, there was nothing better than watching him exude excitement and just pure joy after he got home from a particularly powerful storm.Â
âWas he and his crew trackinâ anything out here?â Gloria asked, using the tube of blue icing to write the birthday message youâd requested on top of Tylerâs cake.Â
âNot here,â you replied. âHe was south of OKC last I checked in.â
Which, you realized, had been far longer than you anticipated thanks to not having your phone. You mentally kicked yourself again for leaving it behind. If youâd brought it with you, you could have just given him a call now. Because unless he was smack dab in the middle of a goddamn tornado, he always answered your calls. Just a few reassurances from him couldâve calmed your fears about the storm brewing outsideâ told you that it was just a thunderstorm passing through.Â
Not every thunderstorm means a tornado, he had said, you didnât even know how many times by now. And each time allowed you to relax a little. Because unlike your boyfriend, you didnât enjoy weather in quite the same way. In fact, after an EF4 had ripped through your home when you were just a child, you did your best to stay as far from tornadoes as Oklahoma allowed.Â
âIâm sure itâs just thunder,â you began.Â
But before you could finish your sentence, you heard the sudden pitter patter of hail beginning outside. Gloria lowered the icing tube while you took another step closer to the window to peer out.Â
Dark, gloomy clouds swirled through the sky.Â
That was when you heard the sirens. Loud and clear, they echoed through your ears in a terrifying, grim warning.Â
âŚ
As the storm tracked faster and faster the closer they got, Tylerâs first stop was your shared home just outside of Lawton.Â
He didnât even bother turning the truck off before he was hurling himself across the lawn, towards the front door. But before he even looked inside, his stomach dropped when he noticed your SUV wasnât parked in its typical spot.Â
Regardless, he practically ripped open the front door before running into the house, calling your name loudly into each room he searched, hoping that maybe youâd lent your car to your mom againâ or magically parked it in the garage that was stuffed full of his gear.Â
But it was no useâ you werenât there.Â
He knew that for good as soon as he flung open the door to your shared bedroom. The bed was neatly made, pillows arranged perfectlyâ and your phone sitting on the nightstand table, plugged in and clearly far away from you.Â
âDamnit!â he yelled, kicking the door frame frustratedly. Chest rising and falling rapidly, Tyler pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to think. Frustration and anger brewed inside of him, but he knew that underneath all of that was fearâ for you and your safety. All he wanted was to have you in his sights againâ although preferably wrapped up in his embrace, the only spot he could ensure you were safe... Where you belonged.
Suddenly, an idea popped into his head. Tyler made his way across the room and picked your phone up from the nightstand. Your backgroundâ a picture of you and him taken during your trip to Texas last year, lit up the screen. Accompanying it were the slew of notifications youâd missedâ the first was the severe weather alert, the next few were all the missed calls from him. But at the very bottom of your screen was a reminder notificationâ one that allowed him to finally exhale the breath heâd been holding since he burst into the house.Â
Get Tyler a bday cake.Â
Sliding your phone into his back pocket, he raced back down the stairs to find Boone standing on the front lawn.Â
âSheâs in town,â he said, rushing towards his truck.Â
Boone followed close behind. âHow do you know?â
âIf nothing else,â Tyler said, climbing into his truck, âshe follows her schedule.â
âŚ
âGloria, you gotta listen to meââ you pleaded, hurrying around the counter to grab her hand. âIf the sirens are goinâ off, it means we donât have much time. Does the bakery have a basement, orâ or a shelter?â
Gloriaâs watery eyes met yours. Your heart sank the moment she shook her head dreadfully.Â
âOkay,â you said shakily, trying not to panic. What would Tyler do? You looked around the bakeryâ with its old walls and sagging roof, you knew it wasnât safe to stay here.Â
âGloria, we gotta go,â you said urgently. âWe gotta find somewhere safe to be.â
With that, you tugged her towards the exit.Â
As soon as you were outside, you felt the fierce wind whip your face, along with a few staggering pieces of hail. There was debrisâ leaves and sticks flying around in every which way, making it hard to see past what was right in front of you.Â
Although you were trying to be vigilant, you didnât even see the scrap of metal fly by your face. âShit!â you exclaimed, feeling it graze your cheek. Ripped skin was quickly followed by the feeling of warm blood trickling across your skin.Â
âAre you alright?â Gloria asked, grabbing your arm.Â
You used your free hand to press against your cheek before nodding. âWe gotta get out of here,â you said.Â
But just as you turned to try and gauge your surroundings, hoping to come up with a shred of a plan, you froze at what was looming in the distance.Â
Winds whipped rapidly, the sky boomed, and a dark, wide funnel had formedâ itâs tip already touching down on the ground. And it was coming straight for you.Â
âGloria, we gotta goââ you cried. âNow!âÂ
âŚ
Tyler drove as fast as he couldâ foot nearly pressed down on the ground. He drove like his life depended on it. Because yours didâÂ
The truth wasâ heâd never given much thought to losing you. He was generally too preoccupied with wondering what youâd do if you lost him. He was the one putting himself in danger all the time, he was the one forcing his way in the middle of these storms.Â
He didnât know what heâd do without youâ except be a shell of who he was now.Â
âHoly shitââ he heard Boone say from the passenger seat.Â
Tyler refocused his attention ahead, his eyes widening the second he saw what Boone was fixated on.Â
It was hard to miss the giant, fucking tornado barreling right for Lawtonâs array of buildings.Â
âWeâre too lateââ Tyler croaked. âWeâre too fucking lateââ
âSheâs smart,â Boone assured Tyler. âShe knows where to go and what to do.â
Tylerâs knuckles turned white as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel. He pressed his foot down on the accelerator and drove faster.Â
âŚ
In retrospect, the laundromat probably wasnât the best place for you to be. But there were few windows and the back room was lined with secure piping, all which jetted deeply into the ground, creating a solid anchoring point.Â
There were a few other people huddled in the same room, already low on the ground and clutching onto one another.Â
âHold on to that!â you cried, practically pushing Gloria towards the corner of the room. She wound her frail arms around the piping before crouching down. You were right beside her, arms locked tightly on the piping as you felt the building start to shake.Â
The storm outside was deafening. Winds whistled and boomed. You were pretty sure the woman beside you was screamingâ but you couldnât hear her above the noise of everything else. You tried to be braveâ the way you knew Tyler would be if he were here.Â
Once, about three years ago, an EF3 hit his parentâs ranch while the two of you were staying there for a long weekend. You remembered the way he stayed so calm, so collected through it all. After ushering everyone into the storm shelter, he wrapped his strong arms around you, anchoring you to him. The ranch didnât shake like this though⌠And even though youâd been scared that night, it paled in comparison to what you felt now.Â
This building was weakâ the structure was unsound. You had no idea how close the tornado actually was, but you knew this thing wasnât going to stay put. It was just a matter of if the pipes went deep enough into the ground and if you could hold on to them. Because you didnât have Tyler holding on for you this time.Â
You hoped he was somewhere safeâ maybe tracking the storm that was about to kill you from a reasonable distance.Â
âEverythingâs going to be okay,â you told Gloria, sweaty palms making your grip slip. âJust hold onââÂ
The building began to shake harderâ the very foundation rocking beneath you. Shortly after, pieces of the roof began tearing off, exposing the thunderous storm raging above.Â
âI donâtââ Gloria cried. âI donât think I can hold on!â
You tried loosening your own gripâ hoping you could wrap your arms around her like Tyler had done for you before, or do something to help. But then you heard another ear splitting roar, and suddenly, the entire roof was being ripped off from the building. There was nothing you could do. You werenât strong enoughâÂ
âHold on!â you screamed, tucking your head into your elbow and squeezing your eyes shut. âJust a little longer!âÂ
But as the words left your lips, even you didnât believe them.Â
âŚ
By the time they finally reached town, the tornado had already moved on.Â
Part of the reason why Tyler loved tornados so much was their power and speed. In his eyesâ it was nothing short of an act of God to see what damage a simple funnel of wind could do in just a matter of minutes, sometimes seconds.Â
Until he was faced with the inevitable tragedy of it all.Â
Because it was one thing to see trees uprooted, or tractors rolled over. It was another to see an entire town had succumbed to a pile of debrisâ vehicles thrown this way and thatâ metal and siding and bricks scattered over every inch of the flat landâ To know that people, his friends, his neighbors, you could be buried underneath piles of rubbleâ bodies broken and bleeding and hurt if they were lucky enough to be alive at all.
Tyler brought his truck to a screeching halt, not even hesitating before he was ripping off his seatbelt and hurling himself out of his seat. The second his boots hit the mud, he screamed your name as loud as he could.Â
Eyes whipping around, he tried to process the scene before him. But it was hard to gauge where anything used to beâ there was practically nothing left.Â
âTyler!â he heard someone scream in the distance. Head whipping to the side, he saw Lilly, waving her arms frantically.Â
For a moment, Tyler let himself get his hopes up. He raced across the distance between them as fast as he could, despite all the obstacles in his way. But when he finally reached her, he was devastated to see that you werenât there at all. Instead, Lilly was staring at a vehicle, flipped over and crunched like itâd been hit head-on by an 18-wheeler.Â
And although it was damaged beyond repair, Tyler recognized it as yours immediately.Â
He felt his chest tighten. âChristââ he stammered, unable to fight back the tears burning behind his eyes. He ran his hand through his hair before hunching over, hoping the motion would allow him to finally catch his breath.
âOh God,â he panted. âGod, noâ please, noââ
âShe might not have been in it,â Lilly said quickly.Â
But Tyler barely heard her. He was too fixated on the pounding in his earsâ Â
A wave of hopelessness washed over him, flooding his insides. He was too lateâ he couldnât save youâ he was too fucking late.Â
âWeâre gonna find her, T,â Booneâs voice was suddenly peaking through the fog.Â
âYeah, we wonât stop until we do,â Dani added.Â
Tyler forced himself to take a few, steadying breaths. When he could, he straightened his back and glanced around.Â
His whole team hadnât given up on you.Â
Neither could he.Â
âŚ
When you finally gained the courage to open your eyes, you were met by a fierce brightness. You coughedâ lungs heaving as you struggled to breathe.Â
âGloria?â you tried to speak. âAre you okay?âÂ
You were met by an eerie silenceâ the calm after the storm. Blinking harshly a few times, you tried to gather up enough strength to sit up. But as soon as you did, you had a chance to look around⌠And boy, do you wish you hadnât.Â
There was nothing leftâ the entire town was gone⌠destroyed, buried in rubble and debris.Â
âGloria?â you called, groaning as you pushed the thick layer of roofing off from your legs. You grimaced once you saw the deep gash down the side of your thigh, oozing blood.Â
Breath shuddering, you continued to scan the areaâ trying to wrack your brain for what the hell you were supposed to do next. The second you moved to turn your head, you winced, vision blurring. Slowly, you grazed along your forehead with your fingertips. When you pulled them away, you grimaced to see them coated in crimson liquid.Â
You stared at it for far too longâ unsure what else to do. You were hurtâ probably worse than it felt, too if adrenaline had anything to say about it. You didnât know if you could walk on your leg, or if youâd pass out the second you tried to stand up.Â
You felt hopelessâ completely and utterly alone.Â
Until you faintly heard the sound of your name being called in the distance.Â
It was enough to make you snap out of your trance, head whipping around to see Boone throwing aside a piece of siding. He called out a second time before turning and locking eyes with you from across the way.Â
âBoone,â you said under your breath, like you couldnât quite believe he was real. Because if Boone was hereâ calling out for you, that meant Tyler couldnât be far behind.Â
Boone yelled your name again before turning. âI found her!â he screamed, waving his arms. âOver here!âÂ
You fought back the guilt you felt for still not finding Gloria and moved to stand on shaky legs.Â
âIâll come back for you,â you promised her.Â
Wobbly and weak, you limped towards him, trying your best not to fall in the cracks and crevices beneath the debris. You looked down, intending to watch your step, but instead you caught a glimpse of your leg and all the blood now coating your entire thigh and calf. Just the sight of it made you lose your balance.Â
âShit,â you gasped, as you landed harshly on the ground. You looked back up and saw Boone heading your wayâ only fifty yards or so from you. But thenâ right behind Boone, was a sight that made everything else melt away.Â
âTyler,â you exhaled, like it was a prayer tumbling from your lips.Â
His long legs moved fastâ practically running despite everything in his way.Â
Heâd make it to youâ heâd get you. But if you got up and kept moving⌠heâd get there sooner. So, with whatever you had left inside of you, you pushed yourself up. Ignoring the pounding in your head and the throbbing in your leg, you limped forward.Â
âTyler,â you said againâ not loud enough for anyone else to hear. It was like you just needed a reminder that really was right there. âTylerââ this time, when his name tumbled from your lips, it came out as a sobâ every emotion inside of you bubbling to the surface of your skin. Tears slipped down your cheeks, your vision blurred.Â
He was so close nowâ you could hear the rubble shift as he stepped on it.Â
He called your name⌠and God, if his voice wasnât the sweetest sound youâd ever heard.Â
âTylerââ you cried again, throat choked from dust and tears.Â
And then, just like that, his body was colliding with yours. Arms winding tightly around your shoulders, a familiar scent enveloping you, he cradled the back of your head with his hand, anchoring you to his chest. You wrapped your arms around his middle, face buried in his button down shirt.Â
âOh, God,â he whispered above you, lips grazing the side of your head. âI got you,â he said.Â
You opened your mouth to speak, but no words came outâ only a guttural, uncontrollable sob that made him hold you tighter.Â
âI got you, baby. I got you,â he whispered into your hair.Â
âTylerââ was all you managed to choke out.Â
His thumb trailed up and down your hair, matted with mud and your own blood. âIâm here. Iâm right here. I got you.âÂ
He held you tight, steadying your shaky frame. It was like he was the one thing keeping you from completely falling apart. Which was why your body almost recoiled when he finally pulled away. You needed him wrapped around you like that forever.Â
You tried to resist, to pull him back, but you didnât even have the energy for that. All you could do was stand there weakly while his wild, concerned eyes scanned the length of you.Â
âIâm fineââ you tried to say.Â
But he shook his head instantly. âYouâre not fine. Youâre hurt, we gotta get you out of here. Get an ambulance!â he yelled to Boone, who was lingering nearby, looking like he didnât quite know how to help. Boone nodded instantly before hurrying off.Â
âTylerââÂ
âOkay, I see the legâ what else?â he asked. âWhat else hurts?â
âMy head,â you whimpered. âAnd my ribsââ you admitted, although you hadnât quite managed to look at those yet. âBut TylerââÂ
Before you could finish, Tylerâs hand gripped the hem of your tank top, pulling it up slightly. You winced as the fabric brushed over your ribs. But when Tyler pressed a hand on the bare skin, you almost screamed out in pain. âSorry,â he said gently. âI gotta look though, baby. I gotta check it.â
You nodded, fingers squeezing the fabric of his shirt as he did. The pain was excruciatingâ enough to make your already-dizzy head start to spin.Â
âI think theyâre brokenâ at least a couple. Canât say for certain.â
âTyler,â you tried to repeat, tears still streaming steadily down your face.Â
âItâs okay, youâre gonna be okay,â he said once he saw the shift on your face.Â
âItâs Gloria,â you finally spit out. âSheâs out here somewhere, Tyler. We have to find herââ
Tylerâs gaze softened at your words. He pulled his eyes away from you long enough to quickly scan the scene.Â
âDid you see her? Or know where she went?â
You shook your head, more tears spilling down your cheeks. âNoââ you cried. âNo, I donât know where she went. Tyler, I have to find herââ
âEasy,â he soothed, winding an arm around your middle so that he could brace the majority of your weight. âYouâve lost a lot of blood. We gotta get you checked out.â
âI canât leave herââ you protested.Â
âListen to me,â he said, voice gentle but stern. âYou bleeding out on a pile of rubble isnât going to help her, okay? Let me get you somewhere safe, Boone and Dexter can search for Gloria, alright?âÂ
After a moment, you nodded solemnly. âYou promise?â
âI promise, baby. Now câmon.â
Before you could protest, you felt Tylerâs arm swoop around the backs of your legs, while the other supported your back. In an instant, your feet are lifted off from the ground. You didnât have the energy to do anything but lay your head against his chest.Â
âThere we go,â he soothed. âI got you.â
His thumb trailed along your back gently as he began navigating the pile of rubble around you.Â
You felt safe nestled against himâ and for the first time since youâd emerged from the rubble, you felt safe enough to allow your eyes to fall shut.Â
âHey, stay awake now, okay? Weâre just a short walk to the ambulancesâ keep lookinâ at me.â
You triedâ honestly you did. You opened them up, despite everything inside of you that screamed to close them. And then you fought like hell to keep them trained on Tylerâ to study the lining of his jaw and the tan shade of his skin. But Tylerâs embrace was so warm, and his voice was just so soft. And you were so, so tired. There was nothing you could do when they fell shut again.Â
Tyler pleaded for you, but unconsciousness got there first.Â
âŚÂ
Even after the doctors assured him youâd be okayâ that it was just exhaustion and blood loss from the trauma youâd endured keeping you out for so long, he couldnât settle down.Â
You looked so goddamn frailâ so broken in that hospital bed. He couldnât stand it.Â
It was nearly ten at night before the rest of his team packed up to head back home, making him promise to call them as soon as you woke up.Â
âWe can stay if you want,â Lilly offered. There was no hint of sarcasm or malice in her tone. She was being genuine. Which was how Tyler knew he must have been an absolute mess.Â
âThatâs alright,â he croaked, speaking for the first time in nearly an hour. Even he could hear the pain in his voice.Â
Boone clapped him on the shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. âLove you, man.â
âCall us if you need anything,â Dani said.Â
Tyler nodded, promised he would. But the only thing he needed was for you to wake up.Â
âŚ
His watch read midnight when you finally stirred.Â
Tyler was sitting in a chair, pulled all the way up to your bedside, and was clutching your hand with both of his. He had his forehead resting against the hospital bed, but the second he felt movement, he shot up quickly, all the exhaustion fading instantly.Â
Your face contorted into a frown as you squeezed your eyes shut once, twice, three times before they fluttered open.Â
Scooting forward in his chair, he studied you as you glanced aroundâ clearly trying to take in your surroundings and place where you were. The second you started to shiftâ like you were sitting up in bed in a panic, he squeezed your hand.Â
âHey, youâre okay,â he said. âYouâre in the hospital. Youâre okay.â
Your head turned towards him, confusion and fear plastered all over your cut up, bruised face. Just the sight made his chest ache.Â
âYouâre safe.â
You fell back against the pillow and nodded slowly.Â
âTylerââ you began shakily, he could already hear the sob lodged in your throat. âIâ IâmâŚâ
âYouâre okay, baby,â he assured you.Â
âNoâ Iâm- Iâm so sorryââ
He froze, brow furrowing in confusion. âHey, whatâs this? Stop- you got nothing to be sorry for, baby.âÂ
âI didnât have my phone. I didnât hear the alert until it was too late. It was stupidâ I justââ your face crumpled as you struggled to find words. âYou always tell me not to forget it and I forgot it.â
âItâs okay,â he soothed. âDonât worry about that.â
âI justâ I wanted to get you a birthday cakeâ I should have gotten it sooner, but I forgotâ andâŚâ your voice continued to crack and break with each breath you took. âI know you donât love birthdays, but I love your birthdayââ Tyler leaned forward in his seat, releasing your hand so that he could cup your cheek. He brushed a loose strand of hair from your face before his fingers traced your jawline delicately.Â
âI think your cake got destroyed.â
He couldnât help the soft smirk that spread across his face. âIâd say thatâs probably a fair assumption.â
âIâm sorryââ
âHey,â he soothed. âFuck birthday cakesâ I didnât want one anyway. I was thinkinâ we could get a nice pie this year. What do ya think? Blueberry? Peach cobbler?â
âBut Gloria made itââÂ
Suddenly, your face fell and you were back to sitting up eagerly. âOh my God, Tyler. Gloriaâ sheââ
âSheâs safe,â Tyler interjected quickly. âThanks to you. Boone found her not far from where you wound up, clutching to some pipes. She had a few scratches, but that was it. She said the pipes were your idea.â
A rush of pride flowed through him as he beamed at you. His girlâ getting people to safety in the middle of a tornado, despite how scared you must have been.Â
Your watery eyes met his, lip quivering as you tried to speak. âTylerâ I didnât thinkâŚâ he could hear the tears in your throat before you even let them out. âI didnât think we were going to make it. God, I donât know how we made it.â
Your voice broke on the last word, a sob escaping your lips as you doubled over. Instantly, Tyler was out of his chair and sliding into the tiny, hospital bed beside you carefully avoiding your cracked ribs and stitched up thigh.Â
Without even hesitating, you curled into his side, fingers grasping as his shirt like your life depended on it.Â
âShh,â he soothed, hand rubbing up and down your arm. âYou did make it. You and Gloria both. You made it because you thought on your feetâ Iâm so proud of you,â he hummed, pressing his lips to the side of your head.Â
He had no idea if you believed him or notâ no idea if his words were sinking in at all. You clutched his shirt and cried against his chestâ frame shaking with each breath you took. Tyler felt so helpless in that moment. All he could do was whisper reassuring comments and words of affirmation in your ear and hold you tightly against him.Â
After a while, your breathing started to return to normal. Your grip on his shirt loosened as you let out a sigh. âYou came to get me,â you said quietly, voice sounding so tiredâ like it was moments away from drifting off.Â
Tyler pressed his lips to your hair, eyes squeezing shut. âIâll always come to get you,â he promised.Â
You nodded. âI know.âÂ
Tyler ran his hand up and down your arm a few more times soothingly. âThe laundry mat was a good ideaâ especially with the pipes,â he murmured into your hair.Â
With what little energy you had left, you pulled away from him to glance up. With a raised eyebrow, you asked. âDoes that mean I can be a tornado wrangler now?âÂ
He smirked playfully. âThat depends, do you want to be?â
You bit your lip, like you were really thinking about it. After a moment, you scrunched your nose up. âAnd face one of those things nearly everyday? Not a chance.â
Tyler smiled, pulling you gently against his chestâ right where you belonged. âThereâs my girl,â he said lovingly.Â

Chasing Feelings
Tyler Owens x reader
warnings - mutual pining, jealous!reader, some swear words, fluff
word count - 2838
a/n - this was literally supposed to come out within a week of the release of twisters, but Iâve been gone for a month lol. I took so many breaks while writing this, so I'm not completely sure everything goes together, but it should. thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy :)
Youâve had a crush on Tyler ever since the day you met him, and to you, he was way out of your league. You also werenât the only one who felt this way; the amount of girls who showed up at empty fields just to meet Tyler was insane, but could you really blame them?
Tyler has so much charisma to the point where it seems like heâs attracted to everyone he meets.Â
When he stares directly into everyoneâs eyes, giving them his undivided attention, and flashes that charming smile of his, itâs kind of hard to tell who he actually is or isnât flirting with.Â
You, of course, were no different, so how the hell were you supposed to know that he liked you back?
Tyler was from Arkansas and he and his team decided to move to Oklahoma to storm chase several seasons ago. When he first showed up that day at the gas station with Boone filming his every move, you thought that he was just another adrenaline junky wanting to see a tornado up close for views. At the time you were a part of another group of chasers from Oklahoma, and since you had already made up your mind about him, you decided it was best to ignore him.
But, he made it hard.
You were surprised to see him walk over to your group and start chatting it up with a couple of your teammates. Turns out, they knew him from his youtube channel and were fans. Having him so close to you made it easier to check him out, which Tyler had noticed, but never called you out for it.
He came up to introduce himself to you, giving you a smile and taking off his sunglasses as he walked towards you.Â
âYouâre a long way from home,â you had told him â you had overheard him talking about his hometown in Arkansas.
âThis is my home now,â he had said.
He had pointed out that he was familiar with some of your work and began joking around with you so casually like he had known you his whole life. Unfortunately, you became immediately hooked.
You spent that night binging all of his videos and past live streams because you were oh so wrong about him.
That day led you to where you are now, a part of Tylerâs crew and regularly going out on chases for the fun of it.
âHow are you doinâ today, Bambi?â you hear Tyler walk up and come stand next to you as you adjust the lens on your camera. You, and all the other crews, were currently at a gas station preparing for the coming storm.
When he had first given you that nickname, you had told him it was basic, which resulted in him smirking and saying, âAinât nothing basic about you.â
You still think about that moment to this day.
âJust fine, Tyler, is there something I can help you with?â you answer, not taking your eyes off your camera.
âWhat, I canât talk to my favorite person?â he asks.Â
You can hear the smile in his voice, and when you finally turn around to look at him, you arenât surprised to see it spread across his face. âI thought Boone was your favorite person?â you tilt your head at him.
âI can have more than one favorite,â he says, nudging you with his soldier.
You raise your eyebrows and glance over at Boone, who was already looking in your direction with a knowing smile, and say, âI wonder how Boone would feel about that.â
Boone was Tylerâs best friend and had known you had a crush on Tyler the day you joined the team, and since then has repeatedly told you to confess to Tyler. Every time you tell him no, he just tells you yes because according to him Tyler feels the same way about you. It didnât take long for Dani and Lily to catch on either, but unlike Boone, they donât pressure you.
âNo need to start any trouble,â Tyler jokes, and you laugh at that. He opens his mouth to say something else, but stops when he hears the sound of more vehicles pull up.Â
The two of you turn around in time for you to see the crew exit their vehicles, including Javi and what you know to be Kate. Youâve never met Kate given the fact that she rarely decides to come back home to Oklahoma, but from what youâve heard sheâs really good with tornadoes.
You watch as the pair head towards you â Javi coming up to hug you while Kate goes to hug Tyler. Javi shoots you a look as he glances over at the two, and you quickly give his shoulder a shove, causing him to let out a laugh.
Javi is also amongst those who know you like Tyler. This crush is honestly starting to become a little pathetic.
Kate pulls away from Tyler and looks over at you with a kind smile, holding her hand out for you to shake. âHi, Iâm Kate. Iâve heard a lot about you from Javi, so itâs nice to finally meet you.â
According to Boone, Tyler couldnât keep his eyes off of Kate the last time she was here. At the time your migraines had started to come back so you had decided to sit the chase out, and good thing you did because there was no way you could handle watching that scene unfold.
You offer Kate a smile back as you shake her hand. âSame here, itâs nice to meet you.â
âWhat brings you city folks out here?â Tyler jokes.
Kate rolls her eyes at the nickname. âIâm doing the same thing the two of you are doing â storm chasing,â she replies as she looks out at the horizon at the clouds forming, her hair moving with the breeze.
âI thought you left Storm Par,â you say to Javi as you motion your head towards the white trucks
âWe did, but that doesnât mean we canât use their equipment. They have some really high tech stuff â we might as well put it to good use,â Javi explains. He then looks over at Kate and gives her a nudge. âNot like we need it since Kateâs here.â
Kate gives him a small smile at the compliment.
âWell, city girl, which direction are we going in today?â Tyler asks as Kate bends down to take a dandelion into her hand. Tyler takes his sunglasses off in order to get a better look at the sky.Â
Itâs a question Tyler usually asks you when itâs just the two of you in his truck with the rest of the crew following behind in their vehicles. You have no right to be jealous, but that doesnât stop the feeling of jealousy from growing in your chest. Choosing to ignore it, you take a deep breath and watch Kate, waiting for her answer.
You watch as a gust of wind blows the specks of dandelion out of her hand, causing Kate to look up into the sky at a dark funnel beginning to take form.
âThat one,â Kate points.
âAre you sure?â Tyler questions in a teasing manner, one of his eyebrows raising.
âIâll tell you later,â Kate replies, and then follows it with a question, â do ya mind if I ride with you?â
âNot at all,â Tyller answers, but then turns to look at you,â as long as my trusty navigator doesnât mind.â
What the hell are you supposed to say? No?Â
You donât even notice your tense jaw until you open your mouth to answer. âOf course not, you two go ahead,â you tell Tyler, looking between him and Kate as you offer up a smile.
âWell then itâs settled, letâs ride. Just make sure you donât get me lost,â Tyler smirks as he turns to walk towards his truck. Kate rolls her eyes as she follows him, a small smile on her lips.
Javi turns to you once the pair are out of earshot. âYou donât mind?â he repeats your words, not believing you for a second.
âI donât,â you give him a shrug as you begin walking towards his Storm Par truck. Javi follows right behind you, his hands stuffed into his pockets.
âMhm. You look like you were about to pop a blood vessel,â Javi lets out a laugh.
You stop in your tracks and turn to face him. âWas it that obvious?â you ask, your eyes wide.
âRelax, Iâm kidding,â his smile drops once he sees the look on your face. You release a breath and continue walking. Once the two of you are in the safety of his truck, Javi asks, âyou really like him, huh?â
âUnfortunately,â you huff out. âIâm slowly trying to get over it, though.â
âWhy?â
âBecause it's a useless little schoolgirl crush, and itâs not like heâs actually going to like me back, so thereâs no point in continuing to suffer.â
Javi just hums in response, starting the vehicle and placing his hands on the steering wheel. Then he glances over at you, âI say you should hold out, whatâs the worst that can happen?â
Before you can answer, Tylerâs truck pulls up beside you guys on Javiâs side of the car. Tyler leans forward to look over at the two of you before moving his finger in a swirling motion and driving off.
âThatâs your man, huh?â Javi gives you a questioning look, his tone light.
You let out a small laugh, âJust drive the damn truck, Javi.â
The chase was eventful as always. Kateâs instincts were right and led the group right into the tornadoâs path, where Tyler stopped to anchor his truck. The rest of you hung back as you watched Tyler shoot fireworks into the eye of the storm.Â
Even though you had some distance on them, you could still hear the hoots and hollers coming from their spot in the field. The group of tornado watchers that had decided to join the chase got out of their vehicles to join the celebration.
Javi looks over at you and shakes his head in fake disappointment, resulting in you rolling your eyes.
After the chase everyone decides to go out for drinks before heading to the motel. From your spot at the bar next to Javi, you can see Tyler in the back of the bar throwing darts with Kate.
âYou know, you should blink every once in a while,â you hear a voice say in your ear. You jump and turn around to see Boone standing there with a grin and a beer in one of his hands.
âI donât think she cares at this point, she has been ignoring me all night for that redneck,â Javi jokes.
You scoff, âNo, I havenât.â
âOh really? What was I just talking about then?â Javi looks at you with his eyebrows raised. Boone joins him and turns his attention back to you.
Your mouth opens, but you quickly close it when you realize you donât have an answer. You let out a sigh as you drop your head into your hands. âIâm sorry,â you say in defeat.
âDonât worry about it,â Javi says, âI just canât wait for the two of you to finally get together so this can end.â
âYou and me both, brother,â Boone says, clinking his beer bottle against Javiâs.
As the night starts to come to an end, you say your goodbyes to the group before heading back to the motel. It was just across the street, and the majority of the people in the area were tornado chasers, so you had no problem walking back by yourself.
After making your way up the stairs and into your room, you decide on taking a quick shower before heading off to bed.
When you get out, youâre about to turn the lights and the tv off so you can go to sleep when you hear a knock on your door. Assuming it was Boone, Dani, or even Lily, you open the door without hesitation, only to reveal Tyler on the other side.
He stands in front of you, his hands in his pockets as he looks down at you with a gentle smile and his clothes still on from the day. âHey, there. You left without sayinâ goodbye.â
âWell I told Boone, Javi, Dani, and Lily goodbye, so technically I did,â you tell him. A gust of wind from the night breeze blows through the doorway, causing you to cross your arms over your chest.
âOuch, I see Iâm not important anymore,â Tyler says.
You let out a small laugh. âIâm pretty sure you donât need me to tell you youâre important.â
âYou know I do,â he says.
You let out a small hum in response before asking, âSo whereâs Kate?â
âIâm actually not sure, last time I saw her, I think she was talking with Javi,â he answers, his eyebrows furrowing as he glances back at the parking lot. Then he shrugs and says, âI had to leave her since she was kicking my ass in darts so who cares.â
âDidnât enjoy having your ego bruised, huh?â you joke, and Tyler rolls his eyes.
âHey, I donât have a problem with gettinâ beat by a woman,â he chuckles.
âWhatever you say,â you smile at him. âWas there something else you wanted? I was just about to go to bed.â
Tyler clears his throat. âUh yeah, there is actually,â he tells you as he stands up straight. You raise your eyebrows as you wait for him to continue. âI was wonderinâ, well hopinâ, you would want to do somethinâ. You know, just the two of us,â he says.
Is he - No, letâs not jump to conclusions.
âDonât we always?â you question.
âWell, yeah, but I meantâŚyou know,â Tyler begins to scratch the back of his neck, and glances down at the ground, âLike a date.â
You blink. And blink again. And again.
Then when Tyler notices your silence, he adds, âBut I totally understand if you donât want to.â
You blink again. âLike seriously?â you finally ask. Your eyebrows are furrowed, still not completely believing him.
âYes,â he says.
âOkay,â you nod, a small smile starting to form on your lips.
Okay? Thatâs all you have to say?
âYeah?â Tyler perks up, and you nod again.
âYeah,â you confirm.
Tyler chuckles. âYou know, I donât know why I was nervous. I already knew you had a crush on me.â
You choke on your spit as you give him an incredulous look. âYou what?â
âYeah, and you know I figured you would catch on to me by now, but I wasnât sure if you were and just ignoring me or what,â he smirks.
âAnd how exactly was I supposed to catch on?â you ask, adding air quotes at the end.
âIâve been flirting with you this whole time,â he tells you like itâs obvious.
âTyler, I donât know if youâve noticed, but you flirt with anyone,â you tell him.
âNo, I donât,â Tylerâs face twists up, and you give him a look. He thinks for a second before saying, âWell, yeah, I guess I do. Kind of.â
âWhat the hell do you mean âkind ofâ?â
âI feel like my serious flirting is different from my usual charming self,â he shoots you a wink.
âNo. No itâs not Tyler. Your usual charming self made me think you like Kate,â you tell him, causing his eyebrows to raise in amusement.
WellâŚmaybe you shouldâve kept that last part to yourself.
âYou thought I liked Kate?â he smiles, leaning in a little bit more.
You roll your eyes and decide not to answer. Tyler takes your silence as a greenlight to keep talking shit.
âWere you jealous?â
You scoff as your eyes widen, âhow dare you!â
âYou were!â he exclaims, your reaction giving you away.
Feeling your face begin to heat up and wanting to hide from the embarrassment you back up to be able to close the door in his face. âGoodnight Tyler,â you mumble, fully ready to be alone once again, but of course Tyler puts his hand up to stop you.
âOh come on, Bambi, donât shy up on me now,â he smirks, going back to leaning on the door with his palm still on the door.
âSays the one who got nervous to ask me out,â you point out, causing Tyler to laugh. âGoodnight,â you repeat, and once again you try to close the door, but youâre met with resistance.
Tylerâs laughter dies down. âAlright, alright, Iâll stop,â he tells you. âCan I come in?â
âI donât know,â you reply, giving him a stern look.
âCome on, I promise I wonât tease you anymore.â
You sigh. âFine.â
Tyler thanks you as you step aside to make room for him to enter the room, but as he walks past you, he says, âBut Kate? Really?âÂ
Yeah, he isnât going to let this go anytime soon.

A/N: Thank you to @hauntedlovecreator
Tyler Owens had been through many hardships, witnessing his first tornado when he was a little boy, many many bull riding accidents and more. However, the most painstaking hardship was losing your mom to an EF5 tornado when you were just 5 years old and almost losing you to an EF5 tornado when you were 17 years old, the age you are now.Â
He has two loves, your mom and you, his daughter. Tyler and your mom were high school sweethearts believe it or not. Both of them grew up on ranches and both enjoyed doing farm work and riding horses, which was their main thing to do when they were off of school just to spend time with each other. He was a bull rider and she was a barrel racer. They married quickly, right out of high school. They stuck with each other through thick and thin. She would still barrel race while she went to college and he bull rode until he got his head stomped on one too many times and decided to go to school. They both went to University of Arkansas and studied Meteorology, due to them loving storms, where he didn't finish, she did. They soon created the Tornado Wranglers and quickly became popular on YouTube.Â
His second love is you, his daughter. When you came along you were perfect, you looked exactly like him and had his witty personality. You got the love of storm chasing from them both. You were always the calmest when there was a storm going on, falling asleep almost everything. You were a pretty good baby but boy did they start having their hands full when you started to walk and talk. As long as it wasn't lighting you were outside in the storm just admiring it. As you got older the love for storms grew and when you got old enough to travel with the team you did as long as it was during the summer or on breaks. It just so happened to be summer vacation for you so here you were with your dad the crew traveling from Arkansas to Oklahoma. You were in the truck with your dad in the front seat while Boone was in the back with Ben. âSo, Y/N, how old were you when you started chasing with your father?â Ben asked as you looked back at him.
âI think I was 4. Right Dad?â You asked your father as you turned to him.
âYea, that is right. Then a year later an EF5 hit and we lost your mom.â He saidÂ
âOh, Iâm so sorry.â Ben saidÂ
âIt was a long time ago. Still hurts but we never forget about her. Do we?â Tyler asked you.
âAbsolutely not.â You said as you touched the necklace that your mom had given you before she passed.Â
âDo you enjoy chasing?â Ben asked and you and you smiled and nodded, having turned back to him.
âOh, I love it! The adrenaline from chasing and seeing one up close is amazing.â You said and Tyler smiled you were so much like him.
âShe gets that honestly from Tyler.â Boone said as Tyler leaned over to rub you head and you pulled a face but it was all in playfulness.Â
âHow much longer until we are in Oklahoma?â You asked him.
âAbout an hour or so. Get some sleep. Iâll wake you up when we cross state lines.â Your father said and you nodded and got comfortable and closed your eyes and almost instantly you were asleep. When you were little and wouldnât go to sleep your mom and dad would drive you around in your dadâs truck since it gave a low gentle âhumâ and it would instantly put you to sleep, turns out it still can. True to his word your dad was gently waking you up by saying your name and rubbing your arm. âSweetheart, we just crossed the state line. Weâre going to make a stop first.â He said and you nodded. The short drive to the gas station was filled with chatter and getting pumped for the season. As you grew closer you smiled seeing all the cars there and knew what was about to go down. âReady?â He asked and you smiled.
âReady, Dad.â You said smiling.
âTurn on the music.â He said and you did and cranked it up Ainât No Love In Oklahoma by Luke Combs blasted through the speakers as you pulled in and yelling began. Boon was doing the live stream focusing on the crowd and Tyler. You mainly blocked out the conversation as he stopped the truck and got out. You could hear him shout âIf you feel it..â
âChase it!â The crowd replied and he smiled his charming smile that hooked your mother.Â
âI said if you feel it..â He said loving the attention and pumping up the crowd.
âChase it!â The crowd shouted and you smiled, staying out of the way mostly with Dexter, Lilly and Dani. As you stood and watched the crowd and your father you looked around and spotted Storm Par and another woman that was unfamiliar. You had run into Storm Par before and while most team members were unpleasant one was nice and that was Javi. As you looked at them the unfamiliar woman caught your eye and furrowed them out of curiosity and you quickly looked away as your father was calling you over.Â
****************************
Kate couldn't help but stare at the group that just rolled their way in. They really didn't impress her much and they somewhat annoyed her. As they got out and everyone crowded, she stood with Javi as she looked at everyone although one person stood out, you. She thought you looked way too young to be out chasing. âWho are they?â Kate asked Javi.
âThat is Tyler Owens and his group from Arkansas they call them the Tornado Wranglers.â Javi saidÂ
âWho is the girl? She seems too young to be out here doing this. It's dangerous.â She asked as she watched Tyler bring you under his arm and kiss you the top of your head.Â
âThat is Y/N. Y/N Owens.â Javi said
âSister?â Kate askedÂ
âNo. She would be his daughter.â Javi said âShe's really a sweet kid.â He added and Kate was shocked.
âSeems like nobody would be able to settle him down long enough to have a kid.â She said exasperated.Â
âShe was a chaser too. She was sweet just like her daughter.â Javi said
âWas?â She asked and he nodded.
âYea, an EF5 rolled through and the Tornado Wranglers and Strom Par were chasing it. It caught the truck and threw it like it was nothing. Everyone came, most of everyone came out unscathed besides her, they rushed her to hospital but it was too late. It wrecked Tyler and the whole team.â Javi saidÂ
âWhere was Y/N?â She asked, watching the way Tyler tended to you so carefully and with love.
âShe wasn't in the truck with them. I think she was in the RV at the time.â He said and she nodded.Â
âHow do you know all of this?â She askedÂ
âShe's an old friend of mine. We went to the same elementary and middle school then she moved at the start of high school.â He told her.
âOh wow.â Kate said and he nodded then he started to ask her which tornado they should go after taking her mind off you and the group.
****************************
You watched Javi and the woman talk and then she was walking off. You looked up at your dad and saw him watching her, it stung just a bit because he hasn't looked at anyone like that since your mom but he deserved happiness. âI'll be right back, Sweetheart.â He said and kissed your head and walked off towards her direction. You watched them for a bit and watched Ben go over after a few minutes you decided to make yourself busy, really you were just sitting in the truck playing on your phone.Â
âHey, Y/N/N.â Dani said and you looked up not having paid attention to anyone.
âWhich one do you think we should chase?â She asked and you got out to look at the map. You studied the sky and then the map.Â
âWest.â You said just about that time your dad came running up and telling everyone to wrap up. âWhich way dad?â You asked, hopping into the front seat.Â
âWest. She tried to throw us off.â He said and you smiled.
âDamn girl! You got a talent for this.â Dani said as she ran past you and you smiled. Your dad got in the driver's seat as you watched Storm Par rush off.
âDid you call it?â He asked and you looked down smiling shyly.
âI did.â You said
âThat's my girl.â He said as he took off. As you were heading towards the tornado Strom Par was coming up and past you so in your typical dad fashion, he cut them off and everyone cheered. Your dad smiled at the woman with Strom Par and then jerked the wheel going off into the field heading towards it âHarness up!â He said as he put his on and then yours. Ben said something but you werenât paying attention to it as he stopped and sent fireworks up and you looked up at it in amazement. Afterwards you went back to the motel as everyone was outside you stayed in the backseat of the truck laying down the chase having taken the energy out of you. You were asleep in no time. You missed the little spat between your dad and the woman you saw with Storm Par. Throughout the tornado season you were chasing almost every day. You got to see twin tornados and even though you wanted to go after the one Storm Par wanted to go after you let your dad decide and even if it ended up being the wrong choice you still had the adrenaline pumping through you. When the tornado hit the town, you were right there helping. âY/N/N you stay close to me. I donât want you to get lost or hurt.â He said.
âOk, Dad.â You said as you, your dad, and Boone started to help around and find people, things, or pets. Currently you were looking for a dog when your dad looked up and saw the woman coming up.Â
âStay with Boone.â He said and you nodded as he headed off to talk to her. They got pretty loud at some points and you were close enough to hear them.Â
âAre you recruiting kids now?â She asked
âThat kid is my daughter. She had the choice to stay at home or come along. She chose to come along because she loves chasing just like all of us.â Tyler said getting defensive of you. You chose that moment to walk away and not eavesdrop. After finishing helping out you all went back to the hotel. You and dad got into the hotel room after getting pizza and he turned to look at you. âIâm gonna head to the rodeo. You wanna come?â He asked and you looked up at him.
âNo, itâs ok. Iâm kind of tired. You should go and ask that woman.â You said smirking.
âKate. Her name is Kate.â He said and it looked like he was blushing.
âKateâŚ. You should go and ask Kate.â You saidÂ
âYou think so?â He asked
âOh yes. Take a pizza to her.â You said and he nodded and grabbed it as you shooed him away and out the door. You smiled like an idiot. He was so in love with her. As you were relaxing and watching some TV your phone and then the TV started to go off warning everyone that a tornado had touched down and to take shelter. Your dad had prepped you on everything and the safety of everything. You were quick to take shelter, you were scared and you wanted your dad but you knew you had this. You stayed undercover and when it was over you were coming out just as soon as your dad was coming in and taking you in his arms and hugging you tightly.
âYouâre ok.â He said âYouâre ok.â He said and you knew he was saying it more for him and not you.
âIâm here, Dad. Iâm here.â You said holding him tighter.Â
âYouâre not leaving my side again. Never.â He said and you nodded. âCome on, we need to go.â He said, âGrab your stuff.â He added and you nodded and did so and then he was ushering you out and into the truck. You regrouped with everyone and while you stayed in the truck your dad was talking to Dexter and then he was getting in as the sun was coming up.Â
âWhere are we going?â You asked
âYouâll see.â He said and you nodded as he drove. After a few minutes he was pulling up into a driveway.
âWait⌠Dad?â You asked
âYes, we are paying her a visit.â He said and you nodded. He parked the truck and the both of you got out and a woman was coming up and greeting the both of you. She introduced herself as Cathy Carter and she was Kateâs mother. âYou mind keeping her busy while I go and talk to Kate?â He asked her.
âNot at all.â She said and smiled and walked off.Â
âIâm Y/N.â You said and she smiled.Â
âIâm assuming you are his daughter.â She said and you nodded.Â
âI am.â You smiledÂ
âI could tell.â She said âCome on, help me get supper ready.â She said and you nodded and did so. After talking and helping her out she said that she was going to go and get them and you nodded as you set the last bit of food on the table not very long, they were all coming up.Â
âHi.â You said as your father came over and kissed your head and sat down.
âHI, Sweetheart. Kate, this is my daughter, Y/N. Y/N this is Kate.â Your dad said and she smiled at you.
âIt is finally nice to meet you.â She said and you smiled at her.
âRight back at you.â You said and then you all began to eat. Stories were told and laughs were to be had. As the supper ended you stayed behind saying you were going to get some shut eye. You were just about asleep when your father came in. âDad?â You asked sleepily.
âHey, Sweetheart. Go back to sleep. Weâre leaving early in the morning.â He said and you nodded as you got comfortable. The next morning like he said you were leaving and as you got to the truck first and then he was coming out. He looked upset and that made you upset. He looked up at the upstairs several times and was about to start going but a knock there was a knock on the window and it was Kate. She asked your dad a question and he got excited and then the both of you were getting out of the truck. Everything was explained and then the experimenting started. You loved the thrill of it all and had the biggest smile on your face and after getting it perfect it was time to gather the crew again. Tyler turned and looked at you âReady?â He asked.
âBorn ready.â You said and he smiled.
âThat is my girl.â He said and so the chase started. You were in the back with Ben, Boone, and Lily while your dad and Kate were upfront. Storm Par cut you off and you had to laugh. As you were going off towards a tornado you noticed it was getting bigger and bigger it was turning into an EF5. You were following Storm Par when the tornado hit a factory and it turned into a fire tornado. You watched the Storm Par truck get hit and flip yelling was heard and then it was hit again and turned back up it was pointed out that it was heading towards the town. You started off towards the town. When you arrived, the truck was quickly put into park and everyone started to help out and get people to safety.Â
As you were helping the sheer strength of the wind was making things blow around and knocked something loose and made it come flying your way. You tried to outrun it but you were unlucky as your leg got stuck âFuck.â You said as you started to try and lift it off your leg. Your dad heard you and turned to look and his heart plummeted.
âY/N!â Your dad yelled as he started to try and get it off with the help of Kate.
âGo. Save the others.â You said and he shook his head.
âNot a fucking chance. Iâm not losing you like I lost your mom.â He said and continued to try to get it off your leg then Javi came out of nowhere to help and get it off. As you were getting stood up with the help of your dad the water tower came crashing down and water flooded the area pushing you three down. Then you three were heading to the movie theater. âHelp the people out in the back!â Your father said over the roar of the tornado and you nodded. You heard him yelling as you watched Kate run out of the theater but you knew what was happening. You bunkered down as the roof and wall started to come off. As you were waiting for the tornado to pass something came loose and you heard it but couldnât do anything as it hit your head knocking you out.Â
****************************
The tornado passed and everyone was standing up and your father was quick to notice you werenât there and he began to panic. âWhere is Y/N?â He asked and everyone started to look around for you and call out for you.
âI found her!â Javi said as he knelt down beside your unconscious form and your dad was rushing over to you.
âShit! Sweetheart!â Tyler said kneeling down trying to wake you up but nothing was working and he was panicking. âGo check on Kate!â He hollered and everyone nodded as he stayed with you. He checked your pulse and was glad you still had one. âCome on, Baby. Donât do this to me.â He pleaded as he started to try and arouse you. He was about to give up hope until he heard you start groaning.
âDad?â You askedÂ
âIâm here, Sweetheart.â He saidÂ
âMy head.â You whimpered out.
âI know I know.â He said cradling you as you became more aware of your surroundings. âI got you.â He said as he pulled you up into his lap cradled you. Everyone came rushing to you and him.
âYouâre ok.â Javi said and you nodded but winced.
âIâm ok.â You saidÂ
âThey told me what happened. I was worried about you.â Kate said and you smiled at her.
âNothing can keep me down. I'm an Owens.â You said and everyone cracked a smiled and chuckled.
âDamn right.â Your dad said as he held you closer. Your dad kissed your head as you were recovering and getting your bearings together. Nothing could keep you down, not even an EF5 tornado. You werenât going to leave your dad anytime soon, not now and not ever.Â

Tyler Owens and shy reader you say? Who gets flustered every time he looks at them? Who hides their face in his chest to âescapeâ his gaze? Tyler who wants to kiss her so bad and sheâs so flustered.
Hide and Seek - Tyler Owens x Reader
come participate in tyler owens night !
Seeing Tyler Owens while out pumping gas was all you'd needed to know that you weren't the type of person to be capable of dating him. He was all outgoing smiles, signatures thrown here and there to an adoring crowd, and you'd tucked your head to your chest as if it would make the tank fill faster to your rental car.
Well, truck, really, because that had been the only vehicle the agency hadn't rented out yet. You'd needed the truck for only a day, just to get to work and back when your car was in the shop, but its gaudy red exterior had caught Tyler's attention and he'd called over to you from the opposite end of the station.
"Hey there, Red. Nice truck you got."
You'd never know scrutiny like you came to know when his entire crew of both teammates and fans turned to watch you, and he seemed to realize that you weren't up for all of the attention.
"We're breaking for ten," He'd called, and evidently that was enough to let his gaggle of fans disperse until their leader was ready to rev his engine again.
He'd hopped down from his own red truck with the stomp of boots on concrete, and you turned back to the pump desperately hoping he wouldn't talk to you. Unfortunately, a group of three people, him and two of his crew, started for you. You'd felt your heart rate pick up but the second they started to move with him he'd shoved them away, a playful maneuver but one that clearly said back off. That's how he'd gotten you alone, ducking his own head to speak with you instead of looking down his nose at you.
"Sorry if I freaked you out there. Didn't mean to get'cha all that attention if you didn't want it. This yours?"
He had whacked the side of the truck so hard you'd been unsure whether the rental agency was going to return it without hassling you for damages.
After a short conversation about the perils of emergency oil changes on a Monday morning, you'd left with Tyler's number that you'd been too scared to text until three days later, as well as a nagging feeling that you were the wrong sort of person to be talking to him.
You still feel it now, when he turns over in his bed to stare at you with his pretty eyes. You feel so terribly bashful even though you've been looking into the same eyes for three months now. You feel your face heating up against his pillow, and even in his barely-awake state he knows you're getting shy when you start adjusting yourself beneath the blankets.
"You're starin' at the sheets again," He observes, a soft smile on his face, "You're tappin' out already? We just woke up."
"I'm just cold," You lie, shifting the blankets around until you can handle meeting his eyes again. When you look up they're even more intense for the grin he's giving you, kind-hearted but all-seeing.
"You're still shy, even when it's just us, darlin'?"
"I'm more shy when it's just us," You laugh, just as honest as it is shaky, "Then there's no one else you're looking at but me."
"I'm starin' at you no matter who else is in the room." He murmurs, and when it only makes your bashfulness worse, he laughs gently and reaches out to pull you across the sheets towards him.
"C'mere. Can't have you runnin' away from me this early in the mornin'."
You allow yourself to be nestled quite snugly into his chest, but before you can relax you must allow yourself a moment's more mortification when you remember that he's bare-chested in bed.
"I can feel your cheeks burnin' up," Tyler laughs, and you feel his words more than you hear them as his chest shakes with laughter against your face, "Oh, baby, you're such a sweet little thing. How long is it gonna take for you to stop blushin' when we kiss?"
"How long are you gonna stay so handsome for?" You ask meekly into his chest.
You're gently, but unceremoniously pulled from his chest as he cups your face, dipping down to nudge his nose against yours.
"You're a flirt." He accuses, grinning from ear-to-ear, "You're a bold, brazen flirt and you're hidin' behind that shy demeanor, aren't you? Shit, now you're makin' me blush, darlin'."
"It's true," You breathe, laughing along though yours is more air than sound, "I just get shy. Like I forget just how handsome you are until you stare at me and then I get all shy again."
"Can't be nearly as handsome as you are beautiful, sweet thing." He murmurs, dipping down even further to press his lips to yours, morning breath and all, "But I've got enough boldness for the both of us. So if you need to hide after every kiss," He fondly notes the way you've planted yourself back in his chest, face ablaze, "Then I'll always be there to coax you back out afterwards. Deal?"
"Deal." You decide, but you're speaking into his chest so it's muffled.
He says nothing, but you feel a soft press of his lips to the crown of your head, and his pinky reaches down to interlock with yours where it rests against his chest, a promise sealed with a kiss.

Rain splattered against the barn door as you fought to tug it closed, droplets whipped your face until the very last second when you finally managed to latch it shut.Â
âHey,â a deep timbre crackled from behind you, causing you to whirl around.Â
âOh, hi Tyler,â a smile couldnât help but creep up on your features as you spotted the painstakingly handsome farmhand, âwhat are you doing in here?âÂ
A chuckle then bubbled out of him as he leaned the long pitchfork in his grasp against a nearby wall.
âMy job, maâam.â
âOf course, right,â one of your hands shot up to wipe your wet face, though without much success as your palms too were completely drenched.Â
âBetter question is,â he took a step closer to where you stood, dripping onto the dusty barn floors, âwhat are you doing in here?âÂ
âOh, well, I was just coming home from a ride on Blue when the rain came pouring down, soââÂ
âSo what youâre saying is that you just came in here seeking shelter from the rain?â a smirk dazzled his features, âout of every shed and every other barn you passed on your way back to the house, you conveniently chose this one which I just so happen to still be in from when you poked your head in earlier,â his gaze briefly dipped down to your soaked through, and now sheer, t-shirt.
âHm,â you hummed through your smile, âyeah, that really is convenient,â neither denying nor affirming his accusation as you then teasingly twisted away from the close proximity his slow stride had created.
Catching the ladder that led up to the open hayloft, you slowly began to climb it.Â
âJust what are you doing now?â you heard from behind you.Â
âYou said you were working,â you glanced over your shoulder, successfully catching Tyler staring at your ass through your jean shorts, âso Iâm getting out of your hair.âÂ
âOh, is that what youâre doing?â
âThatâs right,â you reached the top and plopped yourself down on the planks, âIâm kind that way. So now, just go back to whatever you were doing, lifting heavy things or whatever,â you waved a vague hand down at him in hopes that he would put on a show for you and let you ogle the way his muscles flexed beneath his tight shirt.Â
But he didnât pick the pitchfork back up.Â
Instead, he simply blew out a soft chuckle, gazing up at you as a light shake found his head, staring up at your drenched visage just a moment longer before he began to climb the ladder as well.Â
A giggle rolled off your tongue as he reached the top, a gentle sound that he then swiftly smothered as he leaned in and pressed his lips to yours, still balanced on the ladder, clutching onto the sides as he reached you, sitting cross-legged on the floor before him.Â
âYouâre unbelievable, you know that?âÂ
âMe?â you tilted your lips out of his reach, âI am an angel. Iâve never done anything wrong in my life,â a grin accompanied your jest.Â
As he climbed the rest of the way up onto the loft, you didnât shift away to make room for him, only leaned back on your forearms as he blissfully crawled to settle above you.Â
When you raised yourself up to kiss him once more, you only got to taste him for but a moment, only shyly managing to sink your fingers into the hem of his shirt, before he denied you of any more.Â
âI swear to god, itâs like you want your daddy to catch us with the way you keep throwing yourself at me.â
Letting out a light-hearted scoff, you said, âexcuse me? First of all, itâs raining and even if it wasnât, heâs not coming down here, not this time of day, and second of all, talk about yourself, sir,â you hooked your legs up and over the small of his back, âyouâre the one always stealing kisses from me even when you know heâs around,â you counted, âoh, also that one time in the tool shed? It doesnât matter that you covered my mouth, he for sure knew something was going on in there,â Tylerâs smile only brightened at the recollection, âand donât even get me started on the way youâre always looking at me.â
âHow do I look at you?âÂ
âYou know howâŚâ you laughed, melting under his gaze, âyouâre doing it right now.âÂ
âOh, am I?â he acted as if it wasnât completely on purpose how his eyes undressed you, âIâm sorry, I hadnât noticed.âÂ
Leaning down to capture your lips once more, a light squeak then escaped your lungs as he suddenly rolled over onto his back, onto a low pile of loose hay, dragging you along with him.
But as your body rested atop his, completely plastered against one another as his broad hands took their time raking down your curves, a soft chuckle rumbled in his chest and vibrated against your tongue.Â
âOh my god, youâre so fucking wet,â he laughed, playfully giving the drenched denim clinging to your ass a swift tap.Â
Pushing yourself up a bit more, you spotted the splotchy stamp youâd transferred all down Tylerâs front.Â
âYeah well, I was just caught in the rain, what do you want me to do?âÂ
âIt really did get you good, didnât it?â you felt his hands shift and nimbly undo your shorts.
âMhm,â you nodded, blinking down at him as he yanked your soaked shorts down and tossed them off to the side, onto a hay bale.Â
âYou mind if I check something real quick?â he playfully asked, scooping his grasp down to curve securely around the plush of your bottom.Â
âNot at all,â you smiled before a sharp yelp then suddenly erupted out of you.
Tyler knew he could toss you around like a ragdoll, a skill of his he wasnât at all shy to lean into, especially now as he yanked you closer, all the way up his frame till he settled you just above his face.
âTyler!â you laughed, squirming lightly as he pulled you further down against him, letting his nose nuzzle against the sliver of your underwear before he placed a sloppy kiss against them.Â
With his wide palms still glued to your butt, a few of his fingers stretched out to catch the hem of your panties and tug them to the side, granting himself the full access he desired.Â
As he began to eagerly lap you up, he briefly murmured against you, âyeah, you really are completely soaked,â conjuring a hazy laugh to rip through you as your head tipped back at the pleasure.Â
Teasing your little clit till your thighs began to shake on either side of his face, you felt his hands briefly migrate up your back and guide you to collapse entirely above him, bending you forward and letting your forearms land in a soft pile of hay for support.Â
His strong arms then scooped back down to your ass, blanketing them around your hips as he brought you even closer to him, evidently not that desperate to let himself breathe any time soon as your all-consuming presence above him was the one and only thing he desired.Â
With the way that he devoured you whole, not long passed till you were cumming all over his face, whimpering and trembling against his unyielding efforts. You barely let yourself catch your breath before you crawled back down his form, lazily kissing the taste of you off of his tongue as you worked at freeing his hard cock that strained in his jeans.
Your frame stayed plastered against his own after you sank down upon him, your tits in the soaked shirt smooshing against his chest. With your panties still clinging just off to the side of your cunt, you only let yourself shutter at the stretch a shy second before your trembly thighs raised you back up to find a slow rhythm.
âFuckâŚâ he groaned, tilting away from the breathless kiss, âride that cockâ, shit, youâre so good,â he nearly hissed at the way you rolled your hips, your silky walls clinging around his girth, âthatâs my girl.âÂ
âYeah, well I partly blame you for finally explaining to me how exactly it is you ride those crazy bulls,â you spoke about his daring side gig, âhow you stay on, tame them.â
âYeah,â an airy chuckle slipped out of his lungs, âyou might just give me a run for my money if I ever get you up on a real one.âÂ
âI thought thatâs what I was doing now,â you smirked down at him as you rocked your hips even further down against his, grinding the length of him dizzyingly deep inside of your pussy. The comment however also earned you a slap across the ass, causing the laugh hiding just behind your lips to finally break free, âhey, Iâm not wrong, you are an animal!â
Burying one of his hands into your hair, he uttered against your lips, âwell, if Iâm an animal, then youâre one too,â nearly growling as he held you close and let himself buck up into you, meeting your slow bouncing halfway, âweâre cut from the same cloth you and me.â
âYeah,â you moaned, digging your weak hands into his shirt and surely stretching the cotton out, âyou and meâŚâ
Tilting your head just far enough back so that he could catch sight of how your eyes began to roll in your skull, he groaned, âfuck, youâre so beautiful⌠so fucking perfect and warm, tight, fucking squeezing around me so good, and so fucking wetâŚâ a chuckle slipped out of you both at the double entendre, âyou messy girl⌠my messy little fucking girl⌠youâll never get to dry off if I have a say in the matter⌠let you stay just completely soaked for fucking ever and make it so easy for me to just do anything I wantâŚâ
