Every time I think of twst next gen and think of characters based on the Decedents character, I remember first seeing the second and third movie and finding out that Mall (daughter of Maleficent) and Uma (Daughter of Ursula) had beef before the events of the movie.
And it's like playground beef that escalated through their childhood. Mall even nicknamed Uma "Shrimpy" so thinking about how Malleus's kid and Azul's kid would interact is fucking funny to me. So their whole dynamic is similar to Leona's and Malleus's.
This is even funnier because I thought of Leona's kid being bff's with Malleus's kid (Kinda like how Mal and Ben or like Kovu and Kiara)

The Great Hunt- The Outlanders
@adrianasunderworld @marrondrawsalot @writing-heiress @the-weirdos-mind @nproduction626
Zira Mahlangu- Current Head of the Mahlangu tribe, queen of the Badlands, youngest sister of the former queen of the Sunset Savana. She has no magic but is feared for her ruthlessness and brutality.
Tumblr media
No one is safe from her wraith.
Her children
Nukah Mahlangu- Zira's oldest child. Aloof and seemingly psychotic. In rare moments he shows his intelligence and is considered the most deadly due to his unpredictableness
Tumblr media
Age: 24
UM: Creepy Crawly-allows him to control any bug or insect
Incantation: "Creepy Crawlies in the walls, wriggling little mites bite the hands I command. Hear my words and obey me."
"Vitani" Mahlangu- Zira's only daughter. Her name is rather embarrassing to her so she goes by Vitani. Her mother put her through rigorous and brutal training to make her more fearsome than her mother. Vitani has never lost a battle.
Tumblr media
Age: 18
*She has not yet discovered her UM yet- but she has mastered a magical skill she considers the closest thing to a signature spell. Vitani is a master in Maui Thai and uses magic to harden and speed up her bone's micro fractures and calcification, making her skeletal system stronger than steel and using magic to reverse it in seconds
Kovu Mahlangu- Heir to the Mahlangu tribe, heir to the badlands, and Zira's favorite child. Kovu has been groomed ever since he was a baby to his mother's heir and to get justice for his aunt... no matter what.
Tumblr media
Age: 16
*He has also not yet discovered his UM yet- but he is extremely proficient with fire magic

⛥゚・。 kunoichi
synopsis: the story of how you met the strawhat crew (and your swordsman)
cw: lots of fluff, comfort, angst if you squint, slightest hint of simp zoro, you're a bad-ass, luffy saves you.
a/n: reposted from another account
Tumblr media
'I can't believe I let this happen... I'm such an idiot...'
You knew the creak of a disembarking ship all too well, which only told you that the Strawhats were back way before the estimated time.
'S'what I get for trusting Kovu with gathering intel...'
With a sigh, you placed the rolled up poneglyph prints in their respective tubes and tied them to your back, silently ducking into the shadows when you heard footsteps outside the door.
You were currently aboard the Thousand Sunny, the flagship of the Strawhats, trying to steal their poneglyph prints for your boss.
It was a simple job, too. They were docked at some random island for supplies, and the reindeer who was left behind to watch the ship had fallen asleep.
No one would suspect a thing.
You should've been back on land by now, handing over the prints and finally breaking free from his abusive reign.
This job was your ticket to freedom.
Yet Kovu just had to fuck shit up.
'I can't stay holed up in this room forever. They'll get too far from land.'
With a huff, you slowly opened the door, happy to sense that no one was around.
'I need to find a way to get to the back of the ship. I can jump from there, and probably swim back.'
Quietly, you ran toward the stairs, happy you went barefoot for this mission instead of using your getas.
There was no possible way to get back there without being seen, so the least you could do was be fast about it.
You were up the stairs in the blink of an eye, and now sprinting straight for the gigantic, cannon-looking thing attached to the back of the boat.
'Almost home free...'
For the first time in years, you smiled, freedom just in reach.
Until it wasn't.
"YOHOHOHO! Um, guys! There's a lovely lady trying to sneak off the ship!" a skeleton man shrieked, landing in front of you and blocking your easy exit, drawing a sword from his cane. "AHHHH! SHE HAS THE PONEGYLPHS!"
Soul King Brook
'Dammit! Time to try the front!'
You back flipped, twisting yourself in the air so you landed the oposite way, allowing you to book it in the other direction.
"You can't be serious!" a redheaded woman exclaimed, running up the steps and to the back deck with a small orange and white staff in hand.
Cat Burgler Nami.
She ran at you, the staff extending into something much larger.
She swung, aiming for your head, but you dropped into a split just in time, using your extended leg to sweep her feet and knock her on her ass.
You grabbed her staff as he was distracted, squeezing it by accident. Out of nowhere, it extended impossibly long, shooting you into the air.
'Luck may be on my side today.'
You smirked as you flew up the side of the mast, getting about halfway up before planting your feet on it, running up the rest.
You managed to get to the yard, perching yourself so you could look for another form of escape, when you sensed something.
Nico Robin.
You jumped off the yard, grabbing onto it like a monkey bar just as four pale arms sprouted from the wood, attempting to grab you.
"Whoa! That's so cool!" a giddy voice exclaimed from below.
Your gaze quickly shifted to the deck below, only to see that trademark hat, and the notorious man that it rested on.
'Strawhat!'
You could sense another attack coming your way so you swung yourself as if you were on uneven bars and let go, flying into the air.
"Is she nuts?! She's gonna kill herself from that height!" a large man with weirdly shaped blue hair exclaimed from below.
Cyborg Franky.
The swing was too short.
You wouldn't go overboard.
'Curse these heavy cuffs!'
One silver cuff was attached to each of your ankles, their being there out of your control.
Noticing you were getting dangerously close to the ground, you imbued your legs with some haki and landed safely, creating a small crater on the grassy deck.
As the dust settled, you realized you were surrounded by Strawhat, the Pirate Hunter, and Blackfoot.
'Shit.'
"GAHHHH! SHE'S SO GORGEOUS! LOOK AT HER SHORT KIMONO!" Sanji squealed as his eyes turned into hearts, blood shooting from his nose.
Despite the blonde man's... awkward display, you sensed another pair of eyes on you, so much so that it practically burned.
The Pirate Hunter?
The second you turned to him, your heart caught in your throat.
You had seen his face on his wanted poster a few times before, and you'd be stupid to deny that he wasn't a handsome man, but looking at him in the flesh...
The pictures didn't even begin to do him justice.
And before you realized, the two of you locked eyes, and in an instant, it felt as if your legs turned to jelly.
A warm, fluttery feeling spread throughout your stomach, and it felt as if everything else in the world had stopped.
'What is feeling? Have I been poisoned?'
Just going off his glare, you could already tell that most cowered under his gaze.
So why were you reacting this way?
Shaking your head, you snapped yourself out of it, focusing on the task at hand.
'No time to gawk... back to work.'
"You... what are you doing on my ship? And why are you stealing Robin's ponegylphs?" Strawhat asked seriously, his face quite the contrast from his giddy expression before.
You sighed.
There was no way you could lie out of this mess.
"I am a kunoichi of the Iguro clan. And I have been ordered to steal your ponegylph prints," you stated, tone firm.
"Any idea why?" Nami asked, her and the rest of the crew walking over.
"None. I am left completely in the dark," you shook your head.
Your expression quickly turned determined.
"But I do know that this final job is my one way ticket out of hell, so peacefully or not, I'm leaving."
You lowered yourself into an offensive stance, glaring at Strawhat as his lips grew a smirk.
He cracked his knuckles, "Alright, then."
"Luffy, you better not hurt her!" Sanji fumed from the sidelines.
Using your haki, you peered into the near future to see him punch you with an extended arm.
'Can't have that.'
"Gum Gum Pistol!"
You tilted to the side, avoiding his hit with ease.
The entire group gasped, save for Zoro.
Strawhat's grin grew even larger, if that was possible, and he wound up both arms.
'A barrage of fists.'
"Gum Gum Gatling!"
The attack came quickly, but you dodged just like the first, flipping, lunging, and performing splits to dodge.
Imbuing your arms with haki, you grabbed one of his arms, harshly pulling him toward you.
And like a bungee cord, he came, and you slammed a flattened hand into the pressure point on his neck, knocking him out.
"Luffy!" the crew exclaimed.
Without hesitation, Zoro drew two of his swords and broke into a sprint, so you dropped his captain and drew your own katana, meeting his two with a sharp clash.
He smirked, which made that fluttery feeling return to your stomach.
"I see you use Ittoryu," he remarked with a slight rumble.
You smirked right back.
"I'm knowledgeable in the style, yes."
The both of you pushed off, returning to your stances before running at each other again.
Swords flew through the air as the both of you met the other's attack perfectly.
You lunged into an attack, but he blocked it yet again, so you hooked your outstretched foot on his ankle, deepening your lunge to pull him down.
He grunted, doing everything he could to keep his stance planted and balanced; so, you imbued your foot with haki, and he did the same for his.
He seemed almost surprised by the fact that you were still pushing your sword against his—despite your compromising position—openly demonstrating your strength, and proving it was comparable to his.
No even Tashigi could do that.
And not only was he impressed by the woman in front of him, but in silent awe.
Sure, your beauty was what caught his attention first—he was a man, after all.
Smooth, chestnut skin...
Plump lips...
Beautiful hip dips and curves...
Sparkling, (e/c) eyes, which looked as if they held stars in your gaze...
But now that he saw your fighting prowess, and raw strength along with it...
Well, you could say you had him hook, line, and sinker.
Still, you kept strong, holding your sword firm in its place as the Pirate Hunter continued to push down.
That is... until the pain equivalent to a thousand lightning bolts stemmed from your ankles.
'No! Not now!'
As you let out a cry of pain, Zoro quickly pulled away his swords, moving before the electricity could be conducted to him.
You dropped your katana, falling over as you held yourself in agony, muffling your shouts of pain on your forearm.
"What's wrong? What did you do to her, moss for brains?!" Sanji asked, yelling at the green-hared swordsman.
"I didn't do anything to her!" Zoro fired back, glaring at the cook.
He didn't know why, but seeing you in so much pain made him hurt.
It was a sharp, pulling feeling, as if his heart was on a string connected to you.
"The shocks seem to be coming from her ankles," Robin pointed out, everyone's attention turning to the cuffs that adorned your feet.
"How do we git it off her? 'Cause that looks super painful," Franky asked, grimacing at the sight of you writhing in pain.
It was then that Strawhat got back up from the ground, looking at you with a blank face.
"Oi, (y/n)? Can you hear me?" your bossed asked, his voice coming from the cuffs.
"Shit," you cursed, weakly trying to get up.
"I'll take that as a yes," you could practically hear his smirk from the other side. "Lemme cut to the chase... you failed your mission, plain and simple. So, you know the consequences."
"No!" you let out a choking gasp, trying to speak through the pain. "I've... I've worked with you for ten years! My debt is paid! We had an agreement!"
"You stupid girl!" he cackled. "I was never going to honor our agreement! You're too good of an asset to pass up! You will work under me for the rest of your pathetic, little life!"
The ship went dead silent, the Strawhat crew looking at you sorrily as tears poured down your cheeks.
Ten years of your life... gone.
All because you believed in the word of a pirate.
He was right... you really were stupid.
Painfully, you turned to Strawhat, who looked over the situation intently.
That's when you got an idea, and settled on it instantly.
Down on your hands and knees, you bowed your head to the captain, the rest of the crew letting out quiet gasps.
"Strawhat, I... hnnggh... I apologize for knocking you out earlier and... un-understand that I am in no place to ask you for such a favor but..."
You lowered your head to the ground, accepting that you would have to die in a state of embarrassment and weakness.
"Please kill me."
If you thought the crew was shocked before, they were flabbergasted now.
Even Zoro.
"I've wasted the last ten years of my life with that monster. And now that there's no end in sight, I do not wish to live."
Strawhat kept the same neutral face as he slowly approached.
You took a deep breath, smiling as you realized your suffering would soon be over, and the bliss of nothingness would welcome you.
But it never came.
Strawhat instead walked past you, silently, and you understood.
'I should've known...'
Such a favor couldn't be done for someone who just stole from him.
Suddenly, you felt the weight release form your ankles, and the shocks stop.
Your eyes shot wide as you lifted your head, snapping around to see that Strawhat had broken the cuffs off for you.
"Hey, guy!" he shouted, leaning down to the broken pieces. "I don't know if you can hear me anymore, but know that (y/n) is under my protection! And she won't be paying back your stupid debt anymore!"
You breath was trapped in your chest, unable to comprehend the words coming out of his mouth.
In one motion, a man you had just met—a man that you tried to steal from—had set you free.
After ten years of hellish torture, you were finally free.
But you still tried to compose yourself, sniffling as he turned back around to face you.
"Why didn't you kill me?" you quietly asked, looking away from the man.
His smile grew into a full on grin, "All you needed was a little help. There was no reason to kill you."
Your eyes went wide.
There was no way.
This had to be a trick.
"Next time just ask."
Your ears perked at that part.
"Next time?" you asked.
"Oh, yeah! I meant to ask," he cheesed. "Do ya wanna join my crew? It'd be so cool if we had a kunoichi!"
You were shocked to say the least, looking over the rest of the crew's faces to see that they were smiling as well.
Never before had you been met with such kindness.
They weren't even getting anything in return.
You sniffled, clearing your throat.
"I would like that," you smiled, looking down at the ground.
As he cheered, and ordered Black Leg to cook a banquet in celebration, you wiped a stray tear from your cheek, looking up at the clear, blue sky.
Strawhat Luffy would never know the bounds of your thanks.
You could never repay him.

Bunbun, how do you think Leona got his scar??
How Leona Got His Scar and Other Thoughts
Tumblr media
So this is for sure something I’ve thought about a lot and how Leona’s Scar relates to him as a character. I get that it's very likely he was simply given a scar by Yana to mirror his Great Seven counterpart of Scar...but you guys know I love to create my own lore. I personally find the little information we do get on Leona’s scar interesting. In one of Leona's chats, Ruggie asks Leona where he got his Scar and notes that The King of Beasts also has a scar on his left eye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, Leona, being Leona, brushes off the question and says he doesn't remember, but logically, we know it would be silly for someone to forget how such a prominent injury was received. And as far as we know, he doesn't have any other scars besides this one.
So, he’s avoiding the truth. Either so the writers can be cheeky about it all, since Scar’s scar origins have had many recons. OR, if you wanna look deeper, maybe there is an implication that Leona prefers not to talk about it because the memory is upsetting. So, he brushes it off with a smirk.
Since I love angst, I prefer the latter. But, let's put a pin in that for a sec.
I think an interesting aspect to all this is that in the Magical Archives (I believe) it's mentioned that scars are something to be proud of in Sunset Savanna, which always kinda puzzled me.
We know that Twisted Wonderland has a skewed perception of the respective Disney villains, but it's still an interesting choice.
In the Lion King lore, a scar is essentially a bad omen. After Scar's death, two characters, Kion and Kovu, are condemned to others viewing them negatively. It's treated as a "Mark of Evil" in the Lion Guard show and even used as a symbol of Kion's deteriorating mental health. There is a symbol found on the ground that they refer to as a “Mark of Evil" where Scar's spirit manifested. TBH, even the treatment of Scar himself borders on ableism and the fact that people refer to him BY his disfigurement is kinda wild.
Tumblr media
(Lion Guard wiki)
Since we kinda get conflicting lore from TLK and Twisted Wonderland on how scars are viewed...this really made me think about how it affects Leona.
I like to believe the view of scars is nuanced in the Sunset Savanna. Maybe now with the younger generations, there is a different attitude regarding scars and they no big deal. Maybe because of the King of Beasts more positive influence, they just are seen as a more "heroic" thing in general.
But, going back to Leona-
I think with what we know of his backstory a chunk of his people view him as this “bad omen” already due to his unique magic. And maybe after Leona received his “mark,” at some point as a child, some folks (maybe older ones) became even more apt to view him as a cursed prince. In Leona’s overblot flashback, we see how the servants in the palace fear and gossip about him.
Since we don't know the full truth of it, since the writers love to deprive us of Leona lore… My headcanon is this- When he and Falena were young, someone went to attack Falena and because the guard’s attention was so focused on the direct heir, Leona was hurt in the crossfire. Not only this, Leona has quite an adverse reaction to being attacked (perhaps for the first time physically as I also HC he was a weak child) However, he was still a child with a powerful Unique Magic, one he maybe couldn't control well at the time. So he attacks the attacker, who was maybe even just another child playing rough or perhaps just a rowdy peasant? Either way, this doesn't end well, he perhaps fatally injures the attacker and is punished for it. And so, begins the series complexes he has as the grumpy Lion we know now.
The desire for him to always be in control and be proficient at magic and magical defense.
His cynicism confirmed. Being reminded again of his place in life. Being only viewed as "a spare heir" compared to his brother. An unnecessary piece.
The disconnection he feels with his family and their disapproval of him and his actions.
Perhaps, this is why Leona is so good at defensive magic (like he mentions to Riddle who failed to collar him at first in Chapter 2.) Maybe this is why he chose to take up sports and self-defense, to protect himself from others despite preferring his intellect to fight. We know he at some point learns from Kifaji how to wrestle in the Catch the Tail Tournament. All this to say, I believe whatever happened is something traumatic for Leona and linked to his insecurities as a person. (Kinda like in many of Scar's backstories) I get into that a bit in this fic I wrote of Yuu comforting Leona. I just find it interesting to think about how the memory of receiving his Scar has affected him as he got older. While cocky and good at acting nonchalant, I do believe, deep down Leona feels uneasy about others' commenting about it or touching it.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts, as per usual! Thanks for asking I enjoyed yapping!

SNIPPET OF AN UPCOMING FIC: the "absentee father too busy saving the world and his needy, neglected daughter who was raised on cyber-misogyny and uses the only asset she was told she has to get her father's attention" incest fic no one asked for.
You become aware of it on the cusp of adolescence.
It's nestled in that transitory realm from a little girl, girlhood, to a bratty teenager. Marbled with the stretch marks of puberty and preadolescent angst; an incipient bloom, a budding flower, that stays. Grows roots in rotten, fetid soil. Acidic enough to corrode metal but a basin of filth where this needling sapling flourishes.
And these feelings inside of you refuses to die through the evolution of innocent child making eyes at Kovu, Aladdin, and Shang with a stupid grin on your face as you sit in his lap (only vaguely aware of how he huffs about work, grumbles under his breath to your mother about how they don't need a separation, it'll be fine, we'll be fine, don't go makin’ any rash decisions now—i can fix this) to burgeoning adolescent shoving clumsy fingers against the gusset of your panties, scrubbing sloppy and uncertain at your flesh until something feels good.
The tether between these two worlds is him. Has always been him.
His voice in your head as you rut your hips into the pillow shoved between your thighs, biting your fist in frustration because it just won't work—
The image in your head changes even if the content they sit you down in front of doesn't. Tarzan's dad. McCready, when your cousin lets you watch the Thing at a sleepover. Older men. Gruff men. Men who pry their thick, grizzled fingers into the soil of the earth and peel it apart with brute force and a snarl.
(Men who pick that same world they claw apart over you—)
One's who look, who sound, just like your dad.
It just makes sense, you think, fingers twisting into the hem of your panties at night, hours after he sends you to bed with a pinched goodnight, princess. It just—is. Him. Him. Him—
Who else could it possibly be when all you can think of is stay, don't go, when his hand twitches towards the door, when he keeps his phone clenched between those bearish hands you wish would squeeze you just as tight. When he seems relieved to finally get pulled away from clumsily patching himself into some proximation of a man that isn't burdened by the weight of the world and eager to flee this tangled, knotted web of his fracturing family, splintering apart over divorce papers pinned to the refrigerator he said he'd replace four years ago, and a daughter who calls him dad in the same tone she says, hello, how are you? to strangers on the street.
You say, I love my dad, this stranger in your home who weaves in and out of your life like a migratory bird nesting for the winter—you, this house, dad and daughter, nothing more than a pitstop, a bottleneck, on this grand journey to somewhere better—but it's wrong. Tastes of cyanide. Fills the gaps of your baby teeth like sticky, sweet mercury.
A tale as old as time—absentee father and the needy, neglected daughter he abandons in pieces; unwilling to rip himself away like a bandaid so he hangs there, tugging on unblemished skin. A constant, bitter ache. A little sting.
(You love him. But the word dad fits clumsily in your mouth like it doesn't belong—unpractised on your tongue because you can count the number of times you uttered this to him with just one hand.)
Of course he runs.
And of course you try to follow the only way you know how.
(Want love? Want affection? Crave a scrap of attention from a man that refuses to give it?
Well—
You have all the power between the meat of your thighs, darling, did you know that?)
It's huddling under the blankets at night, eyes glued to the blue-green glow of your screen as you watch big, brutish men ruin pretty girls. Shoving their thick, too big daddy too big cocks into their cunts, legs thrown over their brawny shoulders. Pov shots of a hairy, soft belly and a wisp of a thing underneath, yowling at the stretch, how good it feels.
At some point, it just becomes normal to want him.
Evolutionary.
But you're not stupid.
These feelings that bud inside your chest—girlhood crushes shaded in rose-pink, pealing giggles demanding daddy's attention, chaste kisses to the apple of your cheeks, a warm, rough hand on the crown of your head, nose tucked into his neck that smells of wet leather and smoke; to damp panties glued to your aching cunt when he brushes his thick fingers over your forehead, brows pinching together as he murmurs don't feel warm t'me, that heavy, scorching hand on your lower back when he walks you from the car to the restaurant as you babble about your day, the rough scratch of his beard when press your cheek to his, wondering how it it would feel against your cunt—are not normal. The furthest thing from it, really.
And you're too aware of it, you think. About how it should disgust you, but doesn't.
You know the word incest before you know the meaning. Read it as it pops up above the videos you like (daddy-daughter; daddy fucks his daughter and cums inside her tight pussy—)

Leona x Yuu/MC fic rec.
Yes I saw the tags but there is more fluff than nsfw in this series of one shots. Very wholesome stuff I think you might enjoy and all the nsfw chapters have warnings if you’re not interested in em.
Your Upendi (THE GASP I MADE WHEN I SAW THE LK2 REF-) series has me melting and it reminded me of this author.

Oh I know that fic! I bookmarked it!
I love my grumpy lion man!
And yes, I was like "I need a ship name that is not just their names spliced together....Upendi works!"

TWISTED WONDERLAND BETA DESIGNS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SO MUCH TO UNPACT
First: Dorms are such different vibes besides Octavinelle, Scarabia (not much), Savannaclaw, and Ignihyde. Like Heartslabyul feels different, Pomfiore is all "what is happening", Diasmonia is hotter somehow, and Scarabia is different in a sense cause Kalim seemed to maybe have been a TWST Aladdin than the Sultan he is Second: THE COLOR THEMESE ARE MORE OR LESS THE SAME BUT WHAT IS MALLEUS'-
Third: MALLEUS FUCKING DRACONIA LOOKS WAY DIFFERENT WHAT THE HELL DISNEY WHY DOES HE HAVE A WHIP, WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE HE'S A SASSY BRAT, WHY DOES HE LOOK BETTER???
Riddle is guess was supposed to be more "spoiled and bratty" like the Disney Queen of Hearts while Pomfiore feels more they're maybe different in themes
This song is playing so this makes this somehow better
Anyway, Pomfiore feels like Epel was either a girl or a trap which adds a layer of the whole poison apple thing he has, and I kind of sense Rook (who's wearing a mask btw) maybe is more based off the magic mirror which would work if his personality of obsession on beauty and being lowkey in love to Vil was still canon than
Deuce looks done with shit
Heartslabyul lowkey makes me think of a idol group
Ignihyde seems to just be Idia or is it Ortho I dunno, also he tiny bean TwT
Savannaclaw feels more like Greasers which makes me think of the Lion King sequel no one talks about unless it's to say Kovu was their first furry crush if it wasn't Lola Bunny or Nahla
Diasmona lowkey scares me cause of how hot they are like bro what-
Octavinelle is different in looks, like Azul has more Usula's hair and it makes a large forehead, I wonder if the bond he has with the Tweels would still be canon in this
I wish I can see more like original designs of the dorms and the staff besides Crowley

(A/N: Leona and Kovu's voices does something to a girl. Who here agrees? Damn you Jason Marsden, and Yuichiro Umehara.)
Savana: Why do you gotta say it like that?
Leona: Like what?
Savana: All sultry and suggestive, a girl could get the wrong idea.
Leona: That's just how my voice is.
Savana: Lawd save the women of the world TTATT

there's this mother who's hell bent on revenge and wants it to be Violent revenge,
(zira vitani rant incoming, lion king 2 will never let me rest)
there's this mother and she has one oldest son who's mostly useless but throws himself 100% into her bloodthirsty goals in hopes of getting her to notice him, and she has this other son who isn't so keen and eventually defects BUT his challenge to her is still in the end a challenge to fight- the promise that she'd have to go through him to get to her enemies
the first son she mourns after he dies trying to accomplish her revenge. the other son she scars and blames and tells to move and get out of her way, calling him weak, shocked and furious when he refuses
then there is her daughter.
her daughter is vicious and loyal and disciplined, she's the mother's second in command, a soldier who doesn't connive for attention or waver from the cause out of a desire for softness and affection. she's ruthless in battle and strong. she doesn't LOOK like her mother but she feels hard like her, edged in a way her brothers weren't
the daughter is the only child left at this mother's side when she finally goes into battle.
and she's the only one of her children the mother threatens
to kill
gleefully. with a wide, satisfied and bloodthirsty smile
her sons died or challenged her authority yes, but the daughter does something worse, something so deep and sickening it breaks any bond between them in an instant
because Vitani, the daughter, reached out to her mother with peace.
she uses only her words to rebel against Zira, no threat, no snarl or claws, no challenge to a fight. just a quiet plea and an earnest, honestly look begging her mother to stop
now they have a way to end things without fighting, Vitani doesn't want to fight anymore
it's the antidote to everything Zira is.
the whole twisted core that Zira's been surviving off of all this time, the one thing that helped her, soothed her, gave her hope and drove her on is the idea that VIOLENCE is the way to end things.
Scar's song spoke of ambition and lies, power and betrayal, but Zira's lullaby was full of the dying screams of her enemies and their loved ones. the lynchpin of her identity is tearing apart the people she hates, the ones that hurt her, and anyone else standing in her way
Nuka died for it. Kovu stands in her way but he keeps to the rules she understands, and she only tries to move him aside
Vitani. Rejects her.
And doesn't.
Vitani ignores the order to kill and tells her no and leaves her side and chooses to trust in Kiara and goes to stand with Kovu and says Enough, but she also looks to her mother with this plea on her face, searching for Zira, asking her to understand, offering her another way
That's not how. things work. according to Zira. That's- wrong. betrayal, yes betrayal is understandable, but this reaching out with softness and hope is
unforgivable.
Zira does not need anyone to help her. She would rather fall to her death swatting at Kiara's offered paw than accept help
Vitani's peace rejects the very core of Zira's being
she threatens Zira in a way no one else ever has, not even Simba oh so ready to meet her in battle-
Zira molded her children, she raised them and taught them. Kovu who accepted her world, Kovu was ready to fight, Kovu only understood love in being ready to tear apart anyone who threaten the people he cared about- Nuka DIED believing violence would get him what he wanted- Vitani was her perfect soldier, trusted by her, and
and Vitani says no.
her own child- HER weapon- raised by her and yet she
she strikes at the very core of Zira's world, rips control from Zira's claws without even touching her
Zira's rules don't apply to Vitani anymore.
Nuka died and Kovu was ready to fight and Vitani says no, I don't have to do either, there is another way
the loss of control, Hurts. and anyone who hurts Zira must Die.
Control though. Vitani really had taken it all away in that one moment, with those few, WEAK, words. Zira grins in answer and tells her daughter that if she will not fight then she will die as well, not realizing her own power here is already gone
until it's proven to her, when all her other lionesses look at her with Disgust and Disdain, and leave her to follow Vitani's lead instead
power keeps you safe from pain, and power comes from fear and the causing the pain of others, controlling them. so Zira believes, the idea that she digs her claws into and clings to
power is given by others. Vitani never even asked for it. she only asked for peace
power, sometimes, is the word for when you don't want to see someone you know be hurt, and realize you can't stand by and let it happen
like when a pride of lionesses go to stand with their former enemies, protecting a daughter from being killed by her own mother
words won. peace won.
violence and revenge were weaker in the end.
Zira lived just long enough to see it, look away, and die refusing to understand. and in a way, Vitani had already killed a part of her, even before then
... or maybe this movie has finally melted my brain. either way
