random and pointless head cannons
(i’m bored)
miles:
weirdly obsessed with iceberg videos on youtube like he will sit for 2 hours straight and watch an iceberg on a topic he knows nothing about
is terrified of getting sick because he got the flu for a week once
cant handle too much sugar/caffeine, he gets the shakes and stays up for hours. when he was 8, the day after halloween he got into his candy and ate a bunch, so he ran around the house for 30 minutes and rightfully crashed, knocked out cold and lightly snoring
listens to kendrick lamar religiously, he screamed when his parents got him tour tickets
gwen:
loves making lists. to-do lists, shopping lists, bucket list. if she can write it down she will
would have mental breakdowns when she was younger if her ponytail had bumps
music snob, and not in a bad way! she feels very strongly about her opinions of music/the industry and will info dump if you mention an artist she likes “did you know that she actually wrote this song for” despises new age radio and perfers physical music and streaming services
had a serious twilight phase. bought all the books and would ask people if they were team edward or team jacob
pavitr:
has a horrible fear of clowns, tenses up when he sees one and has nightmares for a week after
he loves making silly little tiktoks! keeps up with trends and has 100+ drafts of him messing with filters
he is a serious live tweeter like he would be in the middle of a war and be like “yoooo it’s getting tense over here guys”
gets homesick so easily, he was the type of kid who would leave the sleepover at 2 am because he was “sick”, in addition to that he gets super bad social burnout. it takes a while but if hes going out two days in a row he will shut down for a bit.
hobie:
has poked himself in the eye multiple times with his spikes
despises commercial holidays but loves valentines day for some reason??? he will go to a store and borrow some chocolates and cute cards, writes notes paragraphs to his friends about how much he appreciates them
very very smart! he’s quite literally the definition of this 🤓☝️ emoji
(kinda nsfw not really it’s just nipples) he lost a bet once and had to get nipple piercing but he actually really liked them so he kept them in, but he wears a classic barbell nun of ones with charms

preface, I'm not arguing about the current ongoing war situation. I only mentioned war so that people who filter out the word have their filters catch it. I'm also only commenting on XJZs behavior on the basis of using that kinda language. One bigger incident I've seen of XJZhao getting a massive wave of criticism was using "blood libel" against a Jewish follower, when they said they wouldn't buy their next book. XJZhao: "I don't want your blood money." Once again, think what you may of the current situation, or if you're on either the person's or XJZhaos side.
All that said, using a stereotype or a racist slur against someone because you feel they (as an individual) are an appropriate target is not ok. You don't get to replicate racist, discriminating, hateful and damaging words, phrases or stereotypes which attack an entire group, just because you're mad at one specific person, and then pretend it doesn't affect an entire group of people. No not even if you're POC, you don't need to be a armband wearing moron or a white hood cross burning swine to be sit at that particular kinda table.
If you're angry at a black person and use the N-word. If you're angry at a single queer person and use the F-word. You catch my drift, that's unacceptable, and would immediately get you labelled, and rightfully so, a racist, or queerphobe. Before anyone pulls that maybe they didn't know card, if someone unknowingly says something racist or queerphobic, do we just give them as pass, or do we call these people out? We still criticise people who use racist stereotypes, even if they didn't know, because this stuff should be called out regardless. Apparently that caused quite a stir, especially completely unrelated Jewish followers. Even those that are neutral/non-political or even on XJZhao's side. 👁👁
And obviously their ongoing beef with random people who criticize their online presence. XJZhao's main tool has been making tiktoks, and insta posts where they take screenshots and post the full online name and clearly invite their followers to harass them, or even tell them to blacklist and find people related to the target. Even sending their followers after someone who basically repeated exactly what XJZhao said themselves, that they missed deadlines and started fighting with their publisher. Just that they also pointed out how much leeway XJZhao was given compared to what's normal, and was still complaining. 🐧
Some of their tiktoks against the criticisms have also been just been very petulant. This one I relate to a bit lol 🤔 Such as the tiktok/yt short where they tell everyone who criticised or commented on the very blatant Darling in the Franxx story beats that "Akshually, the makers of DitF said I was all good." Yeah, that's fine, most people don't care about that though, they're commenting on how obvious the story elements were copied. It isn't always bad, many reviewers were neutral, some critical on how blatant it was. It doesn't matter if you got the green-light, it's still going to be something that might irk people because anyone who copies another story's story beats in such an identifiable way is gonna be called out at some point. That literally happened to every Hunger games, Twilight and HP clone. 🤷♀️
--
My dim memory is that XJZ literally said the initial plotbunny was a response to Darling in the Franxx in a youtube video long before the book came out. I think they should calm down and take some time away from toxic social media for their own good. (And yes, I do think they're acting antisemitic and getting a pass because online lefties often give people a pass for that when they wouldn't for other bigotry.) But I don't think it was any kind of secret that it's a blatant response to that series.
I haven't read the actual book. Does it come across as just a repeat? My impression was that it was supposed to be more of a critique/reaction.

A couple of months ago I posted something about how we shouldn't care about what other side of the fandom think and do.
I said that it's weird that y'all specifically go to tiktok or reddit or other social medias to find out what they think and prove them wrong.
And they reblogged my post with this long ass quote about how people are intitled to do whatever they want and this is normal and how back in twilight era they had the same problem and this situation between these two group is absolutely normal...
I have no idea why they think if it's normal it also mean it's right? You're tiring people. The fact that I unfollowed both elucien and gwynriel tags bc of the amount of anti e/riel tags there.
And when I also said this they were like you should filter the tag if you don't want to see it.
THAT'S NOT THE POINT HERE!!!
You don't see? You're just like the people you try to criticise!!!
So many people agreed with that person which is disheartening... they genuinely believe they have no part in making this fandom more toxic and they're doing the right thing. But they are all a bunch of hypocrites...
I blocked most of those people instead of filtering the tag lol. Bc I don't want to go into G and E tags and witness half of the post hidden and the other half isn't tagged properly lmao
Maybe I shouldn't say this.
Oh well.
For a lot of people, being here has absolutely nothing to do with liking the ship. Or, it does, but its secondary to being right. And the minute you realize that there is a small, vocally obnoxious group on all ends of the shipping spectrum that are more obsessed with being "right" than the community the rest of us have built, you'll have a little peace.
Like how many of them can't wait until they get "proof" so they can harass people on the opposite end? They think, genuinely, that SJM confirming the ship will drive all the people they hate out and FINALLY they'll have...what?
Nothing. Because if all the people who ship your anti-ship are gone, you're irrelevant.
But in the meantime they'll suck out the enjoyment everyone else is trying to have and scream about how it's their right to be utterly joyless on the internet, even when it directly affects the rest of us just trying to mind our own business, because they DO NOT CARE about the community itself.
#the way i have to beg and plead to leave other people alone#because you know what happens during elucien week? no you dont- because me and LB and meghan absorb the worst of it#because yall cant shut the fuck up about e/riel art/fanfic/headcanons#and fair is fair- but they dont come after you all because youre the who's who of who's that?#and you dont care about anyone who isn't you

As another Elriel, I agree with the previous anon. I have seen horrific people from every side of the fandom. I joined because I wanted to chat with other likeminded people who enjoyed the books and the characters, but the tags are so clogged with hate all the time. Like I don't understand why a fandom of mostly adults can't comprehend the idea of blocking and filtering. I, for example, hate Gwynriel.
Things I don't do:
-harass creators
-repeatedly post anti-gwynriel content in the gwynriel tags
-ask for artists to do my preferred ships without leaving anything positive
-doxx people
Things I do do:
-block the main gwynriel blogs without sending any mean anons
-filter out the gwynriel tags
-send nice messages to artists/writers whose works I enjoy, and ignore the ones I don't
-tag my posts correctly
This feels like the bare minimum tbh but apparently it's not. I wasn't around in fandoms during the whole Team Edward/Team Jacob everyone is comparing this to, but I have not seen any other fandom this aggressive/rude about ships, characters, or even just the author. Like why are people coming onto the acotar/character tags just to complain about how much they hate them. I really think it has to do with the what-about-me types, like that bean soup ordeal on tiktok with the woman posting herself making a bean soup and people in her comments asking "but what if I don't like beans" don't make it then? It's the same thing. Don't like the pairing? Don't interact with the content or creators. Truly it is that simple.
Thank you!! I agree with all of this. And it should be mutual for all parties. I’ve seen tags of gleeriel, ewriel, and in those tags is a BUNCH of vile hatred. I don’t understand it.
If you don’t like it, scroll past. It’s that simple and it always has been! Like you said, filter out tags, don’t comment unnecessary things, don’t hate on art, block people you would prefer not to interact with and vice versa, etc.
I was alive during the twilight era. And I honestly can’t compare it to this. Everyone already knew who endgame was because the books had been released. Everyone argued over the actors, not the actual characters. It was definitely a crazy time, but people weren’t receiving death threats, being insulted, being bullied off of social media, being doxxed, etc…
This fandom has gotten out of control. I truly don’t believe there’s anything to compare it to.

Too bad, so sad Beau. Welcome to the start of book two, where we finally give you a REAL reason for being scared shitless of Jessamine, and all the foreshadowing in this chapter will surely come back to bite you in the ass; one thing you WISH one of these vampires would do already. Book recommendations for autumn
Although the temperature outside is shockingly high, I have already stepped into my autumnal state of mind. I can't think of a better fall activity than writing a Tumblr post with a list of books one can read while drinking a pumpkin spice-flavoured coffee while snacking on biscuits and listening to the rain.
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie (or any other criminal novel, preferably read by night while covering yourself in your favourite blanket.)
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen (a brilliant parody of gothic novels and delusional teenage girls, perfect spooky vibes)
Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum (gay teenagers study poetry under the most magnificent teacher in entire literature)
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (It's even more cringy than you remember it from your middle school years)
The Secret History by Donna Tartt (Obnoxious terrible characters study antiquity while losing themselves in the process)
If We Were Villains by M.L.Rio (The same as the Secret History but make it Shakespeare-obsessed theater kids).
Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone by Remus Lupin (A classic, as long as you don't live under a rock you've probably read it already, nonetheless it wouldn't be an autumn book list without this novel, although it's a love-the-franchise hate-the-author situation)
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (This book will make you regret not being a posh kid who can afford to go to YALE, it makes the idea of joining a secret society extremely appealing).
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky (A broke law student kills a usurer, which is the beginning of an avalanche of disaster. Spoiler, The book ends with him becoming a catholic while dating an ex prostitute).
Little Women by L.M. Alcott (Watch Greta Gerwig's adaptation for an extra fall vibe, the book is wonderful as well. Makes me regret not having sisters).
Jane Eyre by the one and only Charlotte Bronte (Aka why romanticizing Victorian England is an indicator of idiocy).
Persuasion by Jane Austen (A novel that will gaslight you into believing that if you're twenty-seven your bloom is gone, you might as well never leave the house again if you're not married).
Frankenstein (This book freaks me out so much, it's gorgeously written.)
Macbeth (The moral of this drama is to never trust three witches you meet when strolling over Highlands).
Wuthering heights (I could write an entire essay about how superior Mr. Darcy is to Mr. Rochester, but Wuthering Heights still is one of the best novels I've ever read. The spooky vibes are immaculate, it made me want to travel to Haworth during fall).
The picture of Dorian's gray (Dorian Gray would've hated the "aged" TikTok filter.)
The invisible life of Addie Larue (The first line of this book is a summarization of its plot, for the entire novel "A girl is running for her life.", However, we grow to love her in the process).
That would be it. Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, and I can't wait to get the most out of it. I'm sorry in advance for the person I'll become after drinking Pumpkin Spice Latte for the first time this year. May the Christian Autumn Girls rise and sweaty, sun-burned summer preferring children fall.

Week 9 - Is That Really What I Look Like?
Let’s face it, that one dog filter is pretty fun to use
But with the constant rise of social media filters like those found on Instagram, what can be said for our self esteem? And what are these filters doing to our perception of self given how prevalent they are in everyday life?
Right now on Instagram you can find a filter for virtually anything. Want to make your pics look like they came straight out of the hit 2007 movie Twilight? Yep, you got it. Cat ears, clown noses, the possibilities are endless thanks to the thousands of filter presets available. But while no one is getting body dysmorphia from seeing themselves with devil horns, the same can’t be said about beauty filters.
Beauty filters rely on artificial intelligence in order to reimagine a user's face in real time and tap into their “pretty privilege”. In other words the filters enhance what good features a user has and hide away any potential insecurities a person may have about their face. Or rather, they give them new ones to feel self conscious about. (Hunter 2023)
A study done in 2021 found that over 90% of participants aged 18 to 30 used beauty filters in order to edit their photos into seeming “perfect”. The same majority claimed to feel extremely pressured to look attractive as they compared themselves to their peers on social media. And the result from this is even bleaker. Over 75% reported that they feel they can never live up to the person in the pictures posted online with 60% stating this made them feel depressed as a result. (Jantz 2023) Other research also found that young people with low self esteem and negative views on their body were more likely to use filters in a bid to feel better about themselves.
However, as we all know, this is counterintuitive as it further reinforces their negative beliefs that their appearance, and by extension themselves, aren’t good enough or worth it. (Well 2023) Worse, the age to do so is getting younger. In conjunction with their “Self Esteem Project” back in 2020, Dove found that 80% of girls would have downloaded a filter or used an app to alter how they look, all by the age of 13. (Dove 2020) An interesting phenomenon has also risen in recent years due to beauty filter misuse known as “Filter Dysmorphia”. A subset of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), filter dysmorphia worsens when individuals believe that various cosmetic procedures can make them resemble their filtered images and thus cure their self esteem issues. This can involve minimally invasive procedures like fillers and Botox, to more extreme measures like nose jobs and Brazilian butt lifts. (Sadati & Radanfar 2022)
So what can we do now? For one, it’s important to recognise that beauty is ever evolving. Look at the beauty standards from the 40s or 50s and compare them with those of today. Were those people not considered beautiful for their time? The same can be said for us in the today and now. With the speed at which the standard of beauty evolves, and the use of AI gets more prevalent, maybe the best thing we can do is simply love ourselves just a little bit more.

Look I know Tong is a villain, but was it necessary to do him up as a vampire from Twilight. It is bloody impossible to take him seriously when he looks like a bad Tiktok filter.
YYDS (I Feel You Linger in the Air) announced the cast for their next Project "My Stand-In. The iQiyi exclusive based on a popular novel about past lives (and stuntmen? idk, I haven't read the novel and the blurbs are kind of confusing) will star Up Poompat, Poom Phuripan (Bake me Please), Inntouch Naphat (My Engineer), Billy Possathorn, Mek Jirakit & Porsche Tanathorn (You're My Sky).

fandom social justice history anon here - aaah, thank you, early fandom being dominated by academics definitely connected the dots I was missing, thank you! Yeah, now looking at it with this in mind, it's pretty obvious how the tone of the meta essays from that era, while often snarky or even outraged, definitely sounds more like the tone of people who are used to passionately arguing in a setting that doesn't allow you to just throw whatever ad hominem accusation at your opponent's head. In contrast, tumblr's (and as a result, twitter's and tiktok's) style of fandom drama now reads to me even more blatantly like a catfight between high schoolers who have just recently learned some Big Words they only care to use as ammunition. I've read multiple older fans (including your invaluably informative blog) talking about how tumblr definitely reshaped fandom and brought in a TON of new people, and how slash was far from the "mainstream" of fandom even in the livejournal-ffn.net days, and I'm having a feeling that, for all the imperfections of this first tumblr generation of fans' activism ("let my gays marry" etc etc) the thing that got slash to be "mainstreamed" within fandom the way it currently is, also has to do with this pretty sizeable influx of new fans being mostly teenagers. As in specifically, overwhelmingly teenage girls who were having their first sparks of interest in romance during the height of the "I'm not like other girls" era + everyone shitting on twilight & "girly" musicians, because if you look at the posts from that period, they often contrast being a slash reader with being the slutty partying "other girl" or annoying hipster & at my school too slash kind of spread as a "not like the other girls" alternative to mainstream romance. Yes, not the healthiest attitude either, and it's good we've mostly grown past that, but like I said, there's a good chance that was what buffed up the numbers of slash fans to the point where today people are surprised fandom ever even was hostile to it, and at least in my environment, fandom activism, for all its flaws, was most people's first exposure to any sort of "-rights" activism at all. But (as is probably obvious) I did not experience most of even that era personally (I joined tumblr fandom in 2014). Anyways, excuse the rambling, if you feel like adding anything to confirm or deny my hypothesis, I greatly appreciate it, and I hope you have a nice day/evening!
--
M/M still isn't mainstream in plenty of fandom contexts, just not the ones I hang out in, and "not like the other girls" of the type you describe was already big in the 90s among people who'd heard of fanfic. It's just that fanfic was harder to stumble across overall.
I think the two biggest factors are the changing attitudes towards gayness in mainstream culture in a number of countries and... well... AO3 getting popular.
FFN was the big place in the past, though not for my crowd. Now, AO3 is taking a massive bite out of not only its market share but now, in the last few years, Wattpad's.
When the visible institution around which fanfic revolves puts filtering out het front and center, it sends a strong message that previous fandom platforms did not. You had your m/m-only archives and your f/f-only archives and your places that let you filter for those but that treated het as an unmarked default.
Look at early discussions of AO3. There's an undercurrent there that we all assumed it would be one of a number of archives and that we didn't expect it to get this big.
Nobody could have foreseen the Het-Is-Eternal-Default Wattpad crowd being forced by their own platform's suckitude to come camp on the thing built by slashers. Now, we are the admins and they are the also-tolerated. That never happened before.
The thing that makes people not report gay hand holding as evil porn that must be eradicated is simply AO3 putting its foot down.
Anyone who thinks that virulent slash hate is gone just hasn't looked at other spaces.
This is not about individual fans behaving better: it is about institutional power.

i always assume mfs who eat those are those weird aunts or middle aged face book women who do witch craft and love harry Potter and hunger games and twilight and are gen x and use those stupid filters on TikTok 💀
aside from the weird ask my mom just got mad at me doors are being slammed just cause I made eggs and made the house stink after she cleaned.
