“Doctor I think there’s someone following us” Clara said in a hushed voice while grabbing the Doctor’s arm to get him closer so he could hear her.
“Yeah I’ve noticed it too” he turned a little bit to take a look then kept on walking, trying to figure out a plan.
You on the other hand was enjoying some alien ice cream walking ahead of Clara and the Doctor, not a care in the world. The Doctor agreed on you tagging along because Clara kind of made him say yes, with her deadly look she gave him and he folded. So, there you were walking around the market taking everything in and talking with strangers.
Clara was keeping an eye on you being friendly with strangers and she’s doing it out of love for you because as much as you are friendly you are also little naïve and just didn’t understand when people’s overstep their boundaries with you just because you’re friendly and think you’re in to them.
She grabbed you from you arm and pulled you a little so you walk with her “Come on Y/n, we need to keep moving”
You looked at her frowning “Why what’s wrong?”
“It’s just there’s someone following us and we can’t stop” You looked behind you trying to see when she pulled in to the left “Don’t look the Doctor is figuring out a plan.”
While she was dragging you both looked behind you after the second turn and slam into something or more into someone, you looked up and the two of you had a different reaction. Clara push you behind her to protect you and you on the other hand just looked at him and smiled.
“Oh hi” you waved.
“Back off” Clara said at the same time.
You both looked at each other wearing the same confused look, that’s when the Doctor appeared behind the alien threaten him.
“Did you just say hi?” Clara asking you.
“Yeah, I met him before.” You explained.
That’s when the Doctor looked at you I’m sorry did you just say ‘you met him before’?”
“Yeah when we first landed here” you smiled at them.
That’s when the alien opened his hand to show all what he’s holding, it was your bracelet apparently it has fallen from your wrist while you were looking around and didn’t notice it.
“He said that’s yours and he wanted to give it back” the Doctor explained.
You smiled at him and took it back “Oh thank you so much.”
On the way to the TARDIS Clara was complaining to the Doctor “That was unbelievable, I thought he was going to hurt them or something”
The Doctor gave her a look “You see why I said ‘no’ the first time you ask for them to come along”
She rolled her eyes at him.

Imagine a near-kiss with the Doctor...
The portable bookcase in the TARDIS hub was your best innovation yet even though the Doctor reminded you of the perfectly functioning library eleven doors and one water slide away.
As you spent the morning dusting and reorganising the vast collection, you noticed the small frown on the Doctor's face that was knitting brows while one of the monitors spit static into the air.
"You've been staring at me for a few minutes now." The Doctor noted, tapping the screen in the hopes that the static would solve itself.
You turned away from the books slightly and smiled. "Help me?"
"Oh, come on. You know those are the two words that I can't resist." The Doctor whined playfully.
Leaving the task at hand, the Doctor approached the base of the ladder with an exaggerated huff. "Hop down and I'll do the rest. Maybe you can solve the right frequency to reach the Zellion Supernova."
You climbed down and then leaped off the last few steps into the Doctor's arms where you were easily caught and set back on your feet. Quite fortunately, something within the Time Lord stirred, unable to break the gaze or lose the contact by your waist.
The Doctor wished with both hearts to keep you there to watch and admire. You were more than a companion and it puzzled the Doctor to find the right word.
"What are you looking at?" You whispered while wrapping your arms around the Doctor's shoulders.
Dual hearts skipped at the same time. You were so close and all the Doctor had to do was lean forward and steal a kiss.
That was the plan. Simple and sweet. But the universe had other ideas and the TARDIS shook violently, almost tossing the pair over the railing.
Sparks flew about the room and the Doctor looked over to make sure that you were okay. Without any words exchanged, you set a nod and the Time Lord ran over to the console unit, frantically pulling levers to stabilise his machine. You followed, stumbling from side to side as the ship swayed and shook at random.
"What's wrong?" You asked, looking from the centerpiece of the console to the Doctor with grave concern. The TARDIS was making a noise unlike anything that you had heard before and it was unsettling.
The Doctor groaned, struggling to pull down a lever and you immediately clamped your hands the knob to help bring the metal down into position. Immediately after doing so, the noise ceased and the TARDIS stopped shaking.
It was quiet.
The Doctor leaned forward, hands bracing the console, and head lowered while you stared blankly. "Okay, what was that?"
Letting out a sigh, the Doctor looked up at you slightly sheepish.
"Uh - my personal alarm."
You instinctively clenched your hand in a fist and delivered a firm punch to the sleeved arm. "Are you kidding me?!"
The Doctor gave an exaggerated yelp. "Ouch! What was that for?" Clearly unable to see the problem or how much it scared you.
"I thought we hit an iceberg or were caught in a time-rift again." You argued. Sure, it had only happened once but that one event was traumatising.

Don't Mention It
Tumblr media
The Doctor discovers that the two of you have a shared hobby
Twelve x gn!reader
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
You realized it probably wasn't the best idea to touch The Doctor's guitar, but when you got ready for the day and entered the empty console room to find it sitting there unattended, you couldn't resist. After all, sometimes it was simply better to seek forgiveness than to ask for permission. Surely he wouldn't be too upset if he found out, and if he was, you could handle him.
After turning the amp down a bit, you sat on the steps, holding the guitar as you settled into place. Without having to think much about it, you began to play Purple Haze. You were a little out of practice, but it felt nice to strum out a tune.
Before you could move onto another song, you jumped at the sound of The Doctor's voice. "What are you doing?"
When you looked up, his piercing blue eyes and very serious brows were focused right on you. You hadn't even heard him get close.
"Playing guitar. Well, your guitar." You slipped the strap off of your body and handed the instrument to him. "Sorry."
"You never told me you could play." He'd actually been quite surprised at the fact that your playing sounded pleasant, as opposed to the nails on a chalkboard he'd heard when Clara once picked up his guitar.
"I'm sure I have. You probably weren't listening."
"I'm always listening," he said, sounding almost offended.
"You're joking, right?" You stood up from the stairs with a sigh. "Anyway...yes, I play. I just haven't had much time between travelling with you and working whenever I'm back at home. When I hear you playing, it really makes me miss it."
How The Doctor hadn't put the pieces together long ago, he didn't know. When you stopped everything and watched him play, he'd always assumed you were just impressed by his great skills. And maybe it was a little bit of that, but it seemed there had been some longing, too. You were enjoying the music and wishing you could be playing yourself.
The Doctor looked down at the guitar he still held in his hands, and you were caught off guard when he offered it back to you. "I'd better not find even a scratch on it. If I do, I'm dropping you off at home."
You knew he wouldn't do such a thing, but you still intended to respect his request, gingerly taking it from him and putting the strap back over your head.
As The Doctor turned to the console, you sat down once again and played the first thing that came to mind.
Tumblr media
It had been a few days since your last trip with The Doctor when he finally showed up again. You weren't sure how long it had been for him—you never were—but he didn't seem any different.
He played his guitar as he pondered something you couldn't even begin to guess, filling the TARDIS with what you recognized as I Will Dare by The Replacements. An odd choice, you thought, yet that didn't stop you from listening intently.
The Doctor abruptly stopped the tune to put the instrument down, and he was gone from the console room before you could say anything. You sighed in disappointment. You quite liked that song after all.
You continued where he'd left off, humming and tapping your fingers against your thigh.
Moments later, The Doctor came back, holding a guitar case in his hand. You frowned at the sight, because even though he probably had several scattered around the TARDIS, he seemed to prefer the Yamaha that still sat in the console room.
It was even more puzzling when he gave you the case.
"Did you...buy me a guitar?"
"No, no. I didn't buy it. I don't buy things." The Doctor walked over to the console, pretending to look at something on the screen and at least attempting to be out of hugging distance. "A friend gave it to me in the 1960's, and it's been sitting around here ever since."
"1960's?" Very carefully, you placed the case on the floor, opening it to find a beautiful vintage Stratocaster. One very much like Jimi Hendrix used to play. Knowing the man who had given it to you, it was the genuine article.
Without noticing the way he'd been watching you, you closed the case back up and practically ran to The Doctor, throwing yourself at him in a hug. The impact and the way you pushed him into the console knocked some of the wind out of him. "Why does there always have to be hugging?!" He struggled to exclaim as you squeezed him tightly.
"I really can't help it right now." You kissed his cheek and gave him one more squeeze before mercifully letting him go. "Thank you, Doctor. Seriously."
"Don't mention it. Really. I only wanted to stop you playing mine so much."
"That won't be a problem. Believe me."
Returning to the case like a giddy little kid, you took the guitar out and hooked it up to the amp. You missed the small smile on his face as you began to play a song for him.
The Doctor didn't plan to tell you that he had only acquired the guitar after your previous trip.

"You have a stupid face and it's my favourite one to stare at."
it's just so drunk 12

Tumblr media
"Your favourite, really?" You teased, grin wide enough to split your lips spreading across your face. "Out of all the faces on all the planets- mine is your favourite?"
The Doctor squirmed a little under your gaze, clearly perturbed by your intense reaction to this piece of news.
"I, look- don't be giving me that face. That expression, stop it. Stupid face with stupid big eyes."
Of course, this only made you peer at him with even more affection in your gaze.
"It's still your favourite, though," you chuckled, nudging his shoulder with your own.
"Oh, shut it."

A short, slightly angsty Twelfth Doctor one shot - but don't worry, it's cute in the end :)
Imagine you are traveling with the Doctor and at some point, after another ludicrous adventure, there are emotions demanding to be felt. What’s going to happen?
Tumblr media
(picture not mine)
"Just Once"
„Do you trust me?“ the Doctor asked. His hands were firmly wrapped around your upper arms and he stared unblinkingly at you.
„Yes, yes of course, yes of course I do,“ you stuttered, „ always!“
The Doctor heavily breathed out through his nose and cast his view down, head hanging for a second before it snapped back up. This irritated you. Why did he seem disappointed? Why did you get the feeling that the Time Lord actually wished to be rejected. Was it because of fear? Was he scared of the responsibility that came with the trust that others put in him? That you obviously put in him… But why did he ask then? You were puzzled which had to be showing on your face because the Doctor’s face grew a bit softer, a bit less pensive and he seemed to really look at you again.
Then it dawned on you. He was asking for permission, which was also why he did hope you would deny him. Permission for what though? You had been running with this man for what felt like forever. Why did he need reassurance now? Now of all times?
You both had just barely made it out of an underground city which had been flooded by an acidic river. Until the last second the Doctor and you had tried everything to reverse the polarity of the thick, clear liquid but to no avail. In the end you still had to flee, almost not making it. Both of your clothes were scorched from the acid. Your boots looked especially bad. The soles were almost completely gone. Shame really, you did love those minty Doc Martens. Now, thinking back you realized how close of a call this last adventure had been. Suddenly something „clicked“ and you understood. Naturally the Doctor would pick a time like this to inquire upon your faith. It weren’t just your emotions running high but the Time Lord’s too. You had almost lost each other. All over in a blink of an eye. Gone. Unceremoniously slurped up by some acid glibber-liquid-river-thing. Dissolved into nothingness.
Panic rose in you, even more adrenalin rushing your system. Panic you should have felt minutes ago racing against a tide bellowing after you. But all that kicked in now.
„I could have died,“ you whispered to yourself eyes not really looking, your gaze going inward.
„We could have died!“ You yelled and your voice rung in your own ears, harsh and loud. You slapped your hand over your mouth shocked by the enormity of your statement and a tremble went through your entire body.
„Doctor,“ it sounded muffled against the palm of your hand. Tears sprang to your eyes, a familiar sting. Your throat felt very tight all of a sudden and then you couldn’t hold it back any longer. A heart-wrenching sob left your body.
The Doctor’s own eyes didn’t hold tears but they still carried a heavy sadness. His hands moved a little, making a very small stroking motion up and down your arms and shoulders. Then he removed your hand from your face which was still covering your mouth. He kept holding onto it tightly. His long slim fingers folded themselves around yours and that pressure anchored you back down. Wordlessly the Doctor started to wipe away your tears. All the while he kept holding your gaze and you didn’t know if you could handle the intensity or the intimacy of his actions. When he finally spoke the Time Lord’s voice was rough with emotions.
„But you didn’t. We didn’t.“ It almost sounded like he was only saying those words to make sure they were still holding up to reality.
The lump in your throat eased up a little. The Doctor’s hand on your face calmed you down and you leaned your head more into it. You let him take more of the weight that had been sitting heavy on you. Your eyes fell shut. His caress was blooming like a bright light in your mind and you relished all the attention he was giving you. How could those fingers be so soft and gentle when he hardly ever seeked out another one’s touch? How could he put so much comfort in one touch when he never let anyone be so kind with him? How could he be so gingerly when he would never allow himself to be treated the same?
You feel is thumb running slowly over your cheekbone. Once, twice then you lose count, lost in the sensation. The Doctor’s hand that was still holding yours squeezed lightly, you could feel a tug. It pulled you out of your head, like a rope pulling you out from under the water. You broke the surface and your eyes flickered open again. There he was and his cross eyebrows – not so cross right now. „He is so close“, you thought. Had he been that close a minute ago?
I am not a hugger. The Doctor’s voice echoed through your memories from a while back. Him uttering these words really had stung a lot. He had respectfully but also firmly peeled himself out off your embrace and gone back to fiddling about the Tardis’ console. Of course even back then you had known that the Doctor did not reciprocate your feelings for him. At least most definitely not the romantic ones. A friend, maybe even a best friend, something resembling family by choice – yes absolutely but not a lover, not that kind of love. So his comment about not being a hugger did not surprise you too much. Numerous times you had become firsthand witness to the Doctor and his awkward little dances to avoid physical contact with just about anyone. However it still shattered your fragile human heart. Secretly you had wished he would make an exception for you. Oh, how stupid of you to think that. Acid rivers wont kill me, you rebuked yourself,  but my naiveté and wishful thinking are going to be the death of me.
No, the Time Lord really hadn’t been so close a moment ago and you were still certain that he wasn’t a hugger. So what was going on? His face was so close you could, for the first time, make out the little brown spots in the Doctor’s blueish-green eyes. It came with a bit of a surprise to you that you had never really thought about what color his eyes were. You just knew you always wanted to see them. Now that they had been unwaveringly on you for the last minutes you found yourself growing uneasy. The adrenalin, the panic, the close proximity to the Doctor and his strange behavior had you strung tight like a rubber-band about to snap. For a short time there was only breathing. It made you painfully self-aware, too loud, too heavy, too quick. Matching right up with the beating of your heart and you wondered if the Doctor’s two hearts were hammering away in his chest as well. You wanted to put your hand on his chest and feel, you needed to know. The craving was so strong you had to actively keep yourself from reaching out. There was no way you would invade his space like that even though he was practically pushing „his space“ onto yours by now.
You were lost and so confused. For all you knew you too could have been holding a silent conversation judging by the staring contest but you had no clue what about. The Tardis translates pretty much any language in time and space, why doesn’t she speak grumpy, Scottish Time Lord and his many dialects just this once. A huffed laughter slips out between your lips and you loose eye contact with the Doctor for a second. This was getting ridiculous and frankly you were past waiting.
„Doctor,“ with a swift movement you push his left hand off of your face and pull your hand free of his right.
„What is going on, what do you want? What are we doing here, I don’t –“. And his hands snapped back in position this time both on your face, holding it lightly, effectively shutting you up. You were dumfounded, brain not braining. A sound, which could have been interpreted as something in the area of „Doctor?“ but that would have been reaching, left your mouth. The Time Lord looked at you, registering all your emotions. His lips were slightly parted and his eyes wandered all over your face like he was trying to create a blueprint for his memory. And then wondrously he stepped even closer. It could have been the dim lights in the Tardis’ hallway but you were sure the Doctor’s eyes darkened. His body was so close to yours that you felt the heat radiating off of him. You stayed perfectly still not sure what to think, feel or do.
„I will do this once, because I just have to know.“ The Doctor whispered while bending down a little. His mouth was inches from yours and you could feel his hot breath on your lips.
„I need,“ he pressed his eyes shut and your breath hitched in anticipation, was this really happening?
„I need so see how it feels, I need to know if…“  He hesitated. The Time Lord opened his eyes again giving you a pleading look almost begging for help. You understood then that he was battling with himself.
Almost losing you had made him realize how much you actually meant to him and he wanted to act on it. He wanted to show you but this would mean completely going against all his rules. He was the Doctor he couldn’t get too close, he needed to keep a safe distance – always. Otherwise the inevitable loss would tear him apart. But not knowing what it would feel like to just give in made him want to crawl out of his own skin. For once the Time Lord wanted to feel it all, the butterflies, the longing, the safety, the familiarity and all the sweet nullities because how could he deny his hearts when they were bound to feel the pain of parting eventually.
You could see the ongoing struggle on the Doctor’s face. You wanted to help him badly but without taking the choice away from him. Knowing the Doctor meant to understand that he couldn’t be pushed. So you decided to simply repeat your statement from a few minutes ago.
„Doctor,“ you mutter, “ I trust you, always.“
In an instant the Doctor’s mouth was on yours. His weight pushed you against the curved wall of the hallway. The cool metal, a harsh contrast to the warmth between you too. One of his hands brushed past your jawline, along your neck, up into your hair. The other fell down to your waist holding onto you.
When you kissed it was a brush of soft lips. For all the need the Doctor had held right before kissing you, it was all but slow and tender now. Then the tip of his tongue nudged against your lips softly asking for more but it didn’t feel forward, it was rather sweet, almost shy. You opened your mouth and the Doctor deepened the kiss tentatively.
Suddenly you could taste him. There was thunderstorm and starlight, vanilla ice cream mixed with the smoky bite of a good Scottish whisky and something else, something you couldn’t quite put your finger on. It was glorious and you just melted into the Time Lord. Your bodies slotted against each other like they had always been intended to do just that and still he pulled you closer. Never letting go. There was heavy breathing and tiny noises but from whom you couldn’t tell.
Did you stop breathing and just kept on kissing? You had no idea.
Did said kiss last for two seconds or two hours? Still you had no clue.
All too soon the kissing stopped and pathetically a whimper slipped out of you when you felt the Doctor pull away just a bit. It was not for long though. He proceeded to place wispy kisses all over your face and your knees turned all wobbly. You always knew the Doctor was a kind and sweet soul but you never imagined him to be so smooth and caring when it came to physical contact. That realization made your heart want to burst out of your chest. Could you love this man even more?
The next time he reached your mouth he melted against it with a sigh. That sound robbed you of any restraint you might have still held and this time you passionately deepened the kiss.
When the two of you came up out of the haze for air, the Doctor looked slightly disheveled and you couldn’t help yourself but it was just adorable. Tousled hair, red cheeks, whiffled eyes.
You were still in his arms, you both didn’t seem to want to move. The Time Lord had never looked so openly and lovingly at you before. It felt like he wanted to make sure you understood that he was ready to let someone in. To let you in.
You smiled at him. Gently you ran your thumb over the Doctor’s cheek. He closed his eyes and a small smile was playing on his lips.
And then suddenly, you had figured it out.
„Oh, I know now,“ you said softly steeling one more chased peck on the lips from the Doctor to confirm your guess. He looked at you curiously.
„You know what?“ His voice low and husky.
„Oranges.“ you exclaimed and leaned forward a little. Speaking while your lips touched his.
„You taste like a loud thunderstorm and bright starlight, like vanilla ice cream doused with smoky whisky and fresh oranges.“
The Doctor laughed, burying his face in your neck and layering it with kisses.
„I aim to please,“ he said and you both had to laugh at that.

All My Love | Twelfth Doctor
Tumblr media
@pompeiianbollockr
Set during the blindness arc in Season 10 because I love me some vulnerable Doctor. I don't care if it's not in Twelve's character. He gets to be vulnerable because I SAID so :D
He hasn't spoken to you since before you landed on the space station. In fact, it's been nearly a week. It's been nearly a week since The Doctor allowed himself to kiss you. To touch you.
And possibly the most devastating part.. to see you.
Self sacrificial. That was one of the best words you'd ever used to describe him in the time you'd known this face. This face. With all its quirks, and all the things he hates about it: The attack eyebrows, the lines, the wrinkles and the age... Despite all the things he'd hated about this face, the one thing he'd learned from traveling with you is that the faces didn't matter.
He truly believed you loved him for him. You knew it. He knew it. This, though... This was something he wasn't sure he was going to come back from. The Doctor had spent centuries gallivanting across the universe, running further and faster from home because he couldn't dare look back, with promises of adventures on his lips and desperation for escape in his heart.
"Tell me... am I a good man?"
You scooted closer to where he was sitting on the stairs and tentatively rose your hand to graze your fingertips across his temple and card through those unruly silver curls. He shivered at the sensation and forced his eyes open to meet yours as you leaned in to whisper in his ear, "The best man I will ever know."
He hasn't forgotten the feeling of your lips meeting the skin under his ear. Or the first time he'd kissed you of his own accord. Or the first time you'd marked him in the dead of night in his bedroom, where your lips had branded his skin. The way he'd linked your fingers together on either side of your head.
The sound of your voice calling his name. The sound of your voice in general, so soft and sweet and good...
That is something he clings to so tightly now. All the memories of the past - mere years for you, millions of years for him - that had opened his eyes to the truth: Despite all his misgivings and all his failures, he too was someone deemed worthy of loving.
You had brought a light into his life that The Doctor had not realized he'd been so deprived of. It was the light of humanity, of hope, of a heart far too big for this universe that nobody would ever thank you for. You deserved so much better than him.
And yet, you didn't want better.
You only wanted him.
He can't figure out why he's so... sad. There's an empty hole in his hearts and his mind where someone used to be, where the memory and the love of someone he cared for used to occupy, and the realization he cannot place who they are is angering him.
The Doctor has always been vengeful. The Oncoming Storm, The Valeyard, Timelord Victorious. He has rage written into the very essence of his bones and a desire to protect and save people in a way no one had ever saved him from himself.
"Hey you," You dragged your fingers across his shoulder blades as you came to sit beside him in the open doorway of the TARDIS. "Where did you go?"
That was one of the things he'd first recognized he loved about you. Despite this body having difficulties with physical affection and intimacy, he'd learned how to communicate with body language and gazes. Absent looks. Looks of adoration. Affection. Longing. That was all it took.
And you still read him like a book.
"Something's missing," He lightly knocked on his temple as you reached out and took his hand in your own. The Doctor let you. It was like he could feel the sunlight and warmth seeping from you into him. The light overwhelming the dark. "In here. There's someone who's supposed to be in here with the rest of them. I don't remember."
You did. You did, and Clara had made you promise before she flew away that you would never help him remember. That you would help him carry the weight.
"Maybe you're not supposed to. We're all stories in the end," You whisper. The Doctor softened as he lifted your hand to his lips and tentatively brushed them against your knuckles. "And maybe some of those stories become songs. Whispers of melodies and lines that hold the things we cannot remember."
All of his memories are composed in a form of music: Lines upon lines of melancholic notes in the minor key that is his endless life, with crescendos of bright notes meant to convey the optimism and light brought by the companions who travel alongside him.
And when they leave, the decrescendo extends over what feels like years, softening to a singular note that eases into silence.
Him, alone, on his own battlefield. That's how he feels right now. Battling the recognition that he may never be able to bask in the light again. That he may always be victim to the darkness.
So The Doctor lets the darkness win. He distances himself from you because it's better to face the darkness alone.
However, you are not willing to let him.
***
You know him. You know him better then you know yourself, and you have known him long enough to know his tells when it comes to how he keeps his secrets. How he lets himself lie. You are the only person who is able to truly see The Doctor.
You would be lying if you said you weren't hurt by his sudden distance. He hadn't done this since he'd recently regenerated. When he'd been resentful of his new body, of the world, and of who he was now.
You had lost count of all of the times that you had followed the sound of grief and heartache and despair into the darkness of his bedroom. All the times he'd turned you away. All the times he'd left you out in the cold of the TARDIS hallways.
All the times he'd finally given in and allowed himself to be held.
You'd been longing to do that again. To be the one being held, to be reminded that he did indeed still love you. The Doctor always went on about having ''a duty of care'' for you and for Bill.
Did your self hatred overwhelm your duty of care, Doctor? Did the coward finally win?
When Bill and Nardole had disappeared, you had stayed behind with The Doctor when he'd attempted to read the Veritas. You had been right around the corner when you were alarmed by the sound of pained groaning coming from within the cage.
"Cardinal, it worked. I can see. Not well enough. Not yet."
Dread bubbled low in your stomach as you approached the cage from behind. Hadn't his blindness been cured? What was he talking about?
"Think about the universes. Whatever you need, you can always borrow." He blinked heavily. Once, twice, three times to try and clear the haze from over his eyes. You were standing just outside of his peripheral vision. He wouldn't be able to tell you were there. And after shutting you out, after days of nothing.. This upset you. This hurt. "As long as you pay it back. I just borrowed from my future. I get a few minutes of proper eyesight, but I lose something. Maybe all my future regenerations will be blind. Maybe I won't regenerate ever again. Maybe I'll drop dead in twenty minutes, but... I will be able to read this."
He slammed his hand on top of the Veritas. You weren't paying attention anymore. The next thing you knew, the lights were going out, and you were running to keep up with him even though he did not know you were there.
You tried not to let your hurt show. Or for him to hear it in your voice.
That would come later.
***
When all was said and done, you found him in the console room. He was still adjusting to learning how to identify when people were approaching based off of his other senses. It took The Doctor a moment to recognize the sound of footsteps approaching, but he did turn from his seat on the pilot's chair nearest to the console to where he thought you were standing.
He also didn't know that you were very aware he was still blind.
"Darling? Is that you? You should know that I always know it's you. Don't be coy."
"I'm mad at you."
His brow rose at that. "And why would that be?"
You walked forward to stand in the natural part of his legs. "For all of the times you have dragged me across the universe," You begin, swallowing your fear as you take both his hands and settle them on your hips while you settle in his lap. "For all the times I have had with you, the years I have known you. I never thought you'd be this thick."
The Doctor snorted. Did you not know this face? He was ridiculously thick headed.
"You should know by now that I am extremely thick," He argued, allowing his fingers to drift under the fabric of your cotton shirt and drum lightly against your hips. "Thick headed and arrogant and a selfish old man."
"An old man who forgot the first promise we ever made." You have yet to touch him. To properly touch him. ''Tell me. When did you forget?"
He struggled to keep hold of those memories. The early ones. When one has an infinite life, you do your best to hold onto what is precious.
"You can't." The Doctor had declared. It had been mere weeks since he'd regenerated, and he was so unsure, so scared. He did a remarkable job of hiding it. "You can't love me."
It was also the first time you'd properly been able to communicate how you felt to him. Eleven had called you, desperate and longing and begging you to understand, to remember that he's still The Doctor despite having a different face.
You had never had the courage to tell his younger face that you loved him. When Eleven had helped you to recognize the fear underneath that worn, aged face, you'd walked right back into the TARDIS and declared it with all the courage of a soldier facing a battlefield alone.
"I do love you. I have loved you. It took a while for me to recognize it, but I do. It's not a lie. It's not a trick or deception. It's me." You took your hand and placed it on his chest. He winced, though briefly, because this body was not quite ready to accept more physical contact than that. "Being brave."
"Promise me then. No secrets. No tricks." He murmured. You took the opportunity to close the gap of space between you, keeping your hand in its place as his grey eyes met yours. You shivered as he brought his own hand up to cradle your jaw. Your lips parted on their own accord as his eyes flickered down to them before slowly dragging his gaze upward to meet your own. "Promise me that you will keep them safe."
"Them?"
"Those fragile, beating things you've held in your hands since we met. Tell me," His breath fanned across your face as he hesitantly leaned inward. "What does it feel like to hold a Timelords hearts?"
"I asked you to keep me safe," The Doctor remarked. "That's not your job. It was an unrealistic promise."
"You're forgetting the beginning of that promise," You finally leaned inward enough that The Doctor could feel the rise and fall of your chest, the warmth of your breath against his cheek. He froze as you lightly tapped his sonic glasses. "No secrets. Take them off."
He did not move for almost a minute and a half. The Doctor knew that he should've seen this coming. He should've known you were clever enough to figure him out.
He removed one hand from under your shirt and removed the glasses willingly. Your heart hammered painfully hard in your chest as you were greeted with the familiar grey of his eyes. This time, however, they were cloudy. They were almost... dark.
"It never went away. I just didn't know how to properly tell you." The Doctor shrugged. "You deserve better. It's as I've said. Selfish old man, traveling across the universe with his best-"
He paused as you pressed a fingertip to his lips. The Doctor hummed and kissed your finger, reveling in the feeling of warmth tracing his face reverently.
"I wish you'd just told me." You murmured. You pressed yourself closer, dragging his hand up your hip until his thumb was pressing hard enough against your skin to feel your heartbeat. "You know me better than this. I love you. You have all my love."
"Even without my sight?" He asked. "I can't... I can't see you. And it's devastating."
That was a peculiar way to describe it. "What could be devastating about that?"
"You really don't know, do you?" He replied. You took both of his hands and slowly lifted them to your face, setting his thumbs against the curve of your lips. "It's hard to come to terms with the darkness winning when you've learned to love the light."
Oh.
"You can't see me," You whisper. You shiver as he drags his fingers across your mouth slowly, allowing them to travel across your face. "But you can learn how to find the light again. Darkness isn't forever."
You spent what felt like hours in silence after that. The Doctor allowed himself to drink in the warmth for the first time in ages, humming as you allowed him to relearn your face. The shape of your eyes. The sweep of your nose, the curve of your lips, the texture of your hair under his fingers.
When he was done, your breath caught as he tangled his fingers in your hair and dragged your head back just enough to expose the slope of your neck. "My love," His voice rumbled deep in his chest. "Tell me, what does it feel like?"
It took you a moment to find your voice as he lowered his head to drag his teeth across your pulse point, followed by the warmth of his lips that elicited a shiver from deep within you. "What does.. What does what feel like, Doctor?"
The last thing he says is, "Being the light." Before he's capturing your lips with his own, and the light overcomes the darkness once again.

Thinking of a serious twelve, one who hasn't felt laughter or happiness since everything that happened on Gallifrey. Not Clara, no one to accompany him and make him feel safe, just wandering around doing what the doctor always does: helping people no matter what. He is sad, confused, he simply lives with a gap in his mind, an important face that is no longer there. He has a hole in his chest, one too big to forget and ignore.
Thinking about a twelve that the first laugh he had in a long time was created by his own wife. Seeing her again gave him back the joy he lost a while ago. How that laugh is so carefree, how that smile is so big and silly, showing how much he missed those special little moments. How the stupidest things like Hydroflax's head in a bag threatening them were the funniest thing in the world. How being back at his wife's side gave him back the joy he had lost so much. How, for just a moment, that hole was full again.

First Kiss
12th Doctor x Male Reader
Tumblr media
The air on the TARDIS was thick with tension as you and the Doctor stumbled back into the control room. The aftermath of a daring escape from certain doom left both of you breathless. His eyes met yours, and in that moment, you could see a mixture of relief and something more profound.
"You, my dear, are quite the partner in crime," the Doctor said with a smirk, adjusting his sonic screwdriver.
"Well, you know what they say about good company," you replied, a playful glint in your eye. The Doctor chuckled, the sound echoing in the vast chamber.
As the adrenaline began to fade, a silence settled between you two. The Doctor stepped closer, a contemplative look on his face. "You know," he began, "I've been meaning to tell you something."
Your heart skipped a beat, anticipation hanging in the air. "Tell me," you urged, your voice barely above a whisper.
The Doctor took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving yours. "I've traveled through time and space, seen wonders beyond imagination, and faced countless dangers," he began, "but in all my adventures, I never expected to find someone as extraordinary as you."
A warm flush crept up your cheeks as the Doctor's words lingered in the air. "Doctor," you said, your voice filled with emotion, "I feel the same way."
A tender smile played on the Doctor's lips. "Good," he replied, reaching out to gently cup your face. "Because there's something I've been wanting to do for a while now."
Before you could respond, the Doctor closed the distance between you, pressing his lips to yours. The kiss was a revelation, a sweet and lingering exploration of shared moments and unspoken feelings. Time seemed to stand still as you melted into the embrace, savoring the taste of the Doctor's lips.
When the kiss finally broke, you found yourself breathless once more. The Doctor rested his forehead against yours, a quiet intimacy settling between you. "I may not always say it," the Doctor whispered, "but you're quite handsome, you know."
You couldn't help but smile, the weight of the recent danger lifting as a new understanding blossomed. "And you, Doctor, are rather extraordinary yourself."
The TARDIS hummed around you, a symphony of time and space, as you and the Doctor stood entwined. The universe stretched out before you, filled with endless possibilities, but in that moment, all that mattered was the connection you shared with the enigmatic Time Lord who had chosen you across time and galaxies.

Imagine the Doctor reminiscing about your arrival on the TARDIS...
"Do you remember the first thing you said when you walked into the TARDIS for the first time?" The Doctor asked.
Taking your eyes off the wiring in your hands, you glanced at the time-traveler. Of course you remembered.
The Doctor had told you that the first thing companions noticed was that the TARDIS was bigger on the inside but you - no, you said something else.
"I said it was beautiful."
Humming as the memory resurfaced, a smile planted itself as the Doctor watched you with an almost dreamy expression. "Yes, you did."
