ANGSTTTT
reader runs away bc she hates enid but her father figure glenn adopts enid 😭
Carl finds her and u can finish the rest
ok bbg
it ends with a bit of fluff but enjoy!!
CARL X READER
You couldn't believe it. Your father, well, your father figure, Glenn, had taken Enid under his wing. Enid now lives with you, Maggie, and Glenn. It enraged you.
You loathed Enid. She, in your words, was a "deranged fucking bitch."
And maybe Glenn didn't love you as if you were his own. Maggie was also pregnant, meaning that there wouldn't be enough space for three kids. So maybe it was you who needed to leave.
And that's exactly what you did.
Once the clock struck midnight, you packed your bags and left Alexandria. You'd left your friends, family, and boyfriend (Carl). It wasn't like anyone was going to care if you left.
No one was going to look for you. That was the prophecy. You were destined to be alone, and you became self-aware of that thought every day.
You headed for the woods. It was a bit dark, and you didn't have your flashlight with you either.
You maneuvered the woods blind. But it was fine. You could just listen for the sounds of flesh-hungry walkers.
By the morning, you'd reached an old apartment building. You opened the door and were greeted by a few walkers. You used your knife to kill them. One by one.
You searched the first floor, killing walkers as you went. You decided it was best to stay here, on the first floor, in case anything happened.
You opened the door to a small apartment and settled down. It had a mattress on the ground and a small but empty kitchen.
You dropped your bag on the floor and laid on the mattress. You smiled. It was better than living with Enid. Totally better.
You decided that it would be better if you had some rest. Your limbs felt like they'd fall off. You closed your eyes, thinking happy thoughts, and slowly fell asleep.
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
You were having the most exquisite dream about living in a castle on clouds when suddenly everything started collapsing, and then you were met with a blurry figure hovering over you.
"Are you alright?" Your vision started to clear up, and the fog in your brain started to melt away.
You looked up, taking in the face in front of you. You knew him. Him. "Carl? How did you—" Carl cupped your cheek and whispered, "You thought that you could travel away from Alexandria and I wouldn't find you? You could travel to the end of the earth and I would still find you. Can't you see? You belong with me, Y/N. And I belong to you."
You rolled your eyes, but you couldn't help but smile. "You're so cheesy, Carl."
Carl grinned, "Only for you." He leaned in and kissed your cheek. Carl stood up and brushed the dust off of his jeans. "Let's go," he said.
"No."
"Yes, we are leaving." He took your hand and pulled you up. You wanted to go with him. But you couldn't. Glenn and Maggie definitely didn't want you. They were probably getting ready to kick you out. Luckily, you have already left, saving them the trouble to kick you to the curb.
"Fine, I'll stay," Carl said.
"Carl—"
"No, I'm staying until you come with me." You smiled. "I'll stay with you whether you want me to or not."
"Okay," you replied.
"Okay."

Why Explicit Caryl Canon Matters
Daryl and Carol (Caryl) fans make up a large portion of the spinoff's audience, and this audience wholeheartedly believes that Daryl and Carol are each other's only choice. It's in the writing. It's also reinforced by cast, crew, and EPs. For example, Norman has repeatedly said “If Daryl falls in love, it's forever."
Tumblr media
There's a misconception that Carylers are a bunch of hysterical saps – fans who only want their ship "fucking under the stars" and only care about Daryl because of Carol, but that’s not true. In reality, Caryl fans are the deepest, most intuitive thinkers in the TWD community. To them, story matters. While they recognize and adore all of the subtext, they understand that it's supposed to lead to something worth the 13-year wait. They're expecting that major sense of relief and joy from watching explicit, undeniable, canon.
Tumblr media
Explicit canon respects Carol's and Daryl's character development – individually and together. They started out way behind everybody else in life, convinced they weren't worthy of love. Daryl thought he was better off alone and Carol thought she was just a burden, but then they showed each other their true potential. Carol told Daryl he was a "man of honor" and Daryl taught Carol to have hope for a better future. They've struggled and suffered and strived to be good enough for each other. So, where's the payoff?
Tumblr media
I understand not all fans want the same things, and maybe there's pressure to “keep everyone happy." Maybe it feels like a lose-lose situation. But from a marketing perspective, Caryl fans are a very reliable source of revenue for the show, so keeping them happy secures a reliable audience for future seasons of the show. They'll show up with their wallets out and their enthusiasm turned all the way up for Norman's and Melissa's nuanced performances. They'll create more fanart and other content. They'll make the show trend on Twitter constantly. Fans already adore Norman and Melissa, but explicit canon will amplify it further whereas keeping things ambiguous will cause a significant decline in viewership.
Tumblr media
Ambiguity is the reason that the "I love you" scene in the flagship's finale got mixed reactions. For the fans who also struggle with their self-image, it was important to see Daryl and Carol overcome their own insecurities and finally "take whatever happiness they could get." But instead, many saw Carol's lighthearted "I love you too" and Daryl's departure as if they were both forfeiting what they always wanted. Daryl was submitting to his solitary nature again while Carol assumed she still owed a debt to her community and Daryl would be happier without her anyway. Both of them deserved a happy ending, or at least a piece of happiness to launch them into the next part of their journey. As far as many fans were concerned, neither of them got that.
Tumblr media
That's why a lot of fans had a hard time watching S1 of the spinoff or opted out of watching all together. There were so many moments that teased the "possibility" of Daryl getting together with a younger, blonder woman nun while hints of Caryl's relationship were buried under more subtext. Keeping Daryl's feelings ambiguous just for the "fun" of shipbaiting cheapens Caryl's one-of-a-kind relationship, falsely indicating that their iconic beats can be recycled with someone else and still evoke the same passionate response from fans.
Tumblr media
Ambiguity also perpetuates ageism and gives non-Caryl fans the excuse to say hurtful things to or about Melissa. Whether or not she's online to see it makes no difference because it still degrades her and it damages other women's perceptions of beauty and worth. Explicit canon on the other hand raises both Melissa and Norman up as two powerhouse actors utilizing their unparalleled chemistry to celebrate mature romances. It brings Daryl’s defining character traits to the forefront – the nurturing traits and the epic ones. It positions Daryl and Carol as equals, and it helps drown out the harmful comments against Melissa.
Tumblr media
Hopes for season 2 of the spinoff are high. Confirmation of Carol's and Daryl's romantic relationship in a way that needs no interpretation and no explanation from anyone offscreen is a dealbreaker. I know in terms of explicit canon, post-production can make all the difference, so it's crucial someone in a position of power pushes for canon that fully and unapologetically lives up to the fans' expectations, does right by the characters, and respects what Melissa wants.

'THE WALKING DEAD' STAR NORMAN REEDUS JOINS ‘JOHN WICK’ UNIVERSE IN 'BALLERINA' SPINOFF FILM
All through the epic run of AMC”s just-concluded The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus showed he’s more than tough enough for zombies. But is he tough enough for the Continental Hotel?
Fans of Lionsgate's John Wick franchise — which, if we’re being honest, is just about everybody — are soon gonna have the chance to find out. Reedus’ name is reportedly the latest to be added to the already-stacked cast of Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spinoff movie anchored by Ana de Armas in the role of a reluctant but revenge-minded assassin.
Deadline reports that Reedus has boarded a Ballerina ensemble that already includes a starting lineup of awesome star power, including de Armas alongside returning John Wick actors Ian McShane and Lance Reddick. Even main man Keanu Reeves himself is expected to show up in the spinoff in a reported cameo role. The film officially entered production last month in Prague.
There’s no early word on what type of character Reedus will play among the secret-society good guys and bad seeds that form the violent web of loyalties and vendettas in John Wick’s deadly world. But it’s definitely a busy period for the 53 year-old action icon, who’s already set to dive back into AMC’s Robert Kirkman-created zombieland as the titular star of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, an upcoming spinoff based on Reedus' fan-favorite character set in AMC's expanded TWD universe.
Helmed by Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard directing veteran Len Wiseman, Ballerina is produced by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, who’s also heading back to the chair for the fourth mainline film in the John Wick franchise. Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee also produce; the studio hasn’t yet revealed when Ballerina will be spinning its way into theaters.
In the meantime, Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, McShane, and Reddick are set to be joined by series newcomers Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, and Bill Skarsgård in John Wick Chapter 4, which is set to land on March 24 of next year. For good measure, Peacock is also prepping small-screen event series The Continental, which as the name suggests, explores the behind-the-scenes workings at the mysterious house of hospitality where John Wick’s many assassins — no matter their loyalties — hang their hats.

Welp, watched the first episode of tlou. Overall I did like it, here’s some thoughts
Thing i liked:
Ellie’s introduction immediately set up her personality very well- like just up and kicking the food tray and being a fucking bitch to the Fireflies... i laughed out loud like, YEA she does act like that- even as fans of the game we know she acts like that with David later on. Bella’s honestly doing a pretty good job at carrying the role so far- i don’t think anyone could ever top Ashley’s performance for me, like her voice/acting is just SO much of who ellie is to begin with, but Bella really is doing well and i’m excited to see her personality grow even more, and to see how Pedro’s character grows along side her.
I really loved when Sarah was in the back of the car when the Outbreak hits, It’s pretty similar to the sequence in the game- but honestly it translated over pretty nicely to film/tv- and i don’t think i’ve seen something filmed like that for tv, at least in awhile. That was the moment i MOST felt like i was in Sarah’s shoes and was scared to hell and back.
It was really fun to see/hear Merle Dandrige play Marlene. Pedro and a lot of the actors do a pretty good job of fitting each characters voice, but man it was nice to hear her voice and see her on screen- she just looks so much like Marlene too and i loved hearing that voice again :D
Fun to see the world of The Last of Us again- it really does stand out against other apocalyptic genre’s like TWD in it’s own way. I got a big kick out of the “WELCOME” sign on the Boston quarantine zone, but like, just everything is SO fucking broken and awful there... just visually a funny world building thing lmao.
OH, The opening credits were great- hearing Gustavo’s iconic theme again to the growing Fungi visual was very nostalgic, and gave me the same chills it did back in the day. Just in general, the music is so nice to hear in a show setting- like it really reminds me that’s a huge reason why the original game felt so cinematic was because of the music.
Things I was  “eh” about:
I think the actress for Tess is fine, but she’s just... casted a little too old imo. In the game, she’s obviously an adult, but is younger than Joel, which i think helps display that Joel’s fatherly instincts/role is still intact, even before he meets Ellie- it just like, silently helps convey to the player/watcher about his character. In the show, she seems to be same age as Joel, if not older, which is surface level fine, but ugh, idk, there’s something about her being younger that i liked- especially since she was like, “The Boss” to Joel, and like knew her way around the city and people at a younger age- and in the show, she feels less like that Boss Lady and more... just your average woman. She really goes into it though, i think it’s more of a writing issue.
I... wanted more emotion from Sarah’s actress. Again, a difficult role to play for the weight it needs to carry, but also be the “goggles” that the audience see’s through- and the first bits with her and Joel are pretty good- but from the time she leaves school, gets the watch fixed, goes home- she feels really flat.
I know it’s an adaptation, and this it’s a criticism even limited to the show, but god, i want the camera to focus on something for longer than 2 seconds. Like the scene where Joel & Tess find out Ellie’s infected, goes by too quickly- there’s some other scenes like that too but i just think that’s a lot of how television/movies are produced today.
I was honestly a little confused as to why they swapped a few things around from the game’s story (i know that feels like it would be obvious because its an adaptation but i have a point to this)... like instead of Robert stealing Tess & Joel’s guns that they smuggle, it’s a car Battery, and Joel wants the car Battery to go see Tommy (which is the most confusing thing to me so far because he and Tommy are on bad terms at this point, idk why Joel wants to go see him so suddenly at this point in the story, but maybe that’ll be expanded upon later), and like, Tess and Joel don’t even kill Robert.... but like they still end up meetng Marline... idk it’s hard to explain, but basically they change a few things around int he story to like... just...get to exactly what happens in the game... like i’m not sure why they didn’t just. Keep the series of events from the game if they were... just gonna get to the same point of smuggling ellie? Idk, it’s an adaptation, maybe they have a reason, but yea that kidna tripped me up, at least as a long time fan.
Anywho, definitely not a bad start!

Cast and Crew Discuss Daryl Dixon's Bond
Daryl and Carol’s Reunion in TWD: Daryl Dixon Daryl and Carol: An Unbreakable Bond Revisits The Walking Dead By August Tales This season, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon takes a nostalgic dive. It reunites Norman Reedus’ Daryl with Melissa McBride’s Carol, even revamping the show’s title with "The Book of Carol." Naturally, their iconic relationship was the highlight at New York Comic Con 2024’s…
