TW: Trans activists

For more than a decade now, trans activists have been harassing those who belong to a feminist philosphy we call radical feminism or the women’s liberation movement.

Radical feminists, like most feminists, believe that men use sex to oppress women. Meaning they oppress women through sexual exploitation and by perpetuating sexist discrimination towards those who belong to the female sex. They were the first to research and expose violence against women as endemic and traumatizing, and to create shelters for rape and domestic violence victims. Those shelters are now being vandalized and defunded by trans activists.

Because radical feminists don’t believe in gender identities, gendered souls, gender roles or any form of innate personality based on sexist stereotypes, they have been receiving rape and death threats on a daily basis. The acronym “terf” was soon invented and is now used to describe any person who doesn’t support the trans movement, even if they’re not feminists, just as long as they're women, though lesbians and feminists tend to be the primary targets.

As a whole, the trans movement claims that its biggest enemy and threat, its most pressing matter, its most dangerous opponent is the women’s liberation movement or what they call “radfems” or “terfs”. This is where their energy and anger is directed, typically in the form of sexist and sexual harassment, intimidation techniques, violence, censorship and social isolation. So let’s talk about that.

From the book Hate Crimes in Cyberspace:

Cyber harassment involves threats of violence, privacy invasions, reputation-harming lies, calls for strangers to physically harm victims, and technological attacks.

Victims’ in-boxes are inundated with threatening e-mails. Their employers receive anonymous e-mails accusing them of misdeeds. Even if some abuse is taken down from a site, it quickly reappears on others. Victims’ sites are forced offline with distributed-denial-of-service attacks.

While some attackers confine abuse to networked technologies, others use all available tools to harass victims, including real-space contact. Offline harassment or stalking often includes abusive phone calls, vandalism, threatening mail, and physical assault.

The Internet extends the life of destructive posts. Harassing letters are eventually thrown away, and memories fade in time. The web, however, can make it impossible to forget about malicious posts. And posts that go viral attract hundreds of thousands of readers.

Online harassment can quickly become a team sport, with posters trying to outdo each other. Posters compete to be the most offensive, the most abusive. An accurate name for such online groups is cyber mobs. The term captures both the destructive potential of online groups and the shaming dynamic at the heart of the abuse.

Cyber harassment disproportionately impacts women. The U.S. National Violence Against Women Survey reports that 60 percent of cyber stalking victims are women, and the National Center for Victims of Crimes estimates that the rate is 70 percent. Of the 3,393 individuals reporting cyber harass-ment to WHOA from 2000 to 2011, 72.5 percent were female. The most recent Bureau of Justice Statistics report found that 74 percent of individuals who were stalked on or offline were female, and 26 percent were male.

Researchers found that users with female names received on average one hundred “malicious private messages,” which the study defined as “sexually explicit or threatening language,” for every four received by male users.

According to the study, “Male human users specifically targeted female users.” By contrast, men are more often attacked for their ideas and actions. John Scalzi, a science fiction author and popular blogger, has found online invective typically situational. When he writes something that annoys people, they tell him so. People do not make a “hobby” out of attacking his appearance and existence as they do female bloggers.

The nature of the attacks similarly attests to bigotry’s presence. Hate expresses something uniquely damaging. It labels members of a group as inhuman “others” who do not possess equal worth. It says that group members are inferior and damaged. Bigotry conveys the message that group members are objects that can be destroyed because they have no shared humanity to consider.

Cyber harassment exploits these features by exposing victims’ sexuality in humiliating ways. Victims are equated with their sexual organs, often described as diseased.

Once cyber harassment victims are sexually exposed, posters penetrate them virtually with messages that say “I will fuck your ass to death you filthy fucking whore, your only worth on this planet is as a warm hole to stick my cock in.” 

Rape threats profoundly impact women: over 86 percent of rape victims are female. Virtual elimination may follow the imagined penetration: “First I’ll rape you, then I’ll kill you.”

One woman who faced online abuse noted, “Someone who writes ‘You’re just a cunt’ is not trying to convince me of anything but my own worthlessness.” Despite the gravity of their predicaments, cyber harassment victims are often told that nothing can or should be done about online abuse. Journalists, bloggers, lay observers, and law enforcement officials urge them to ignore it. Victims are called “whiny baby girl[s]” who are overreacting to “a few text messages.” Often victims are blamed for the abuse. They are scolded for sharing their nude images with loved ones or for blogging about controversial topics. They are told that they could have avoided the abuse had they been more careful.

A related message sent to victims is that the benefits of online opportunities are available only to those who are willing to face the Internet’s risks. They are advised not to expect anything different if they want to make a name for themselves online. The choice is theirs: they can toughen up or go offline.

The Internet is governed by society’s rules. Life online bleeds into life offline and vice versa. The notion that more aggression should be tolerated in cyberspace than in real space presumes that virtual spaces are cordoned off from physical ones.

Most victims do not report cyber harassment to the police because they assume that nothing will be done about it. Sadly, they are right. Law enforcement frequently fails to act on victims’ complaints even though criminal law would punish some of the behavior. Victims are told to turn off their computers because “boys will be boys.” Online harassment victims are told that nothing can be done; they are advised to ignore rape and death threats. During the summer of 2013, high-profile women were subjected to a torrent of online threats. The feminist activist Caroline Criado Perez received hundreds of graphic rape threats via Twitter after her successful campaign to feature more female images on British banknotes.

Members of Parliament and female writers who publicly supported Criado-Perez faced the same, including bomb threats. One tweet featured a picture of a masked man holding a knife with the message, “I’m gonna be the first thing u see when u wake up.”

Because the Internet serves as people’s workspaces, professional networks, résumés, social clubs, and zones of public conversation, it deserves the same protection as offline speech. No more, no less.

Without doubt, the free speech interests at stake are weighty. Free expression is crucial to our ability to govern ourselves, to express our thoughts, and to discover truths. For that reason, government cannot censor ideas because society finds them offensive. Truthful speech must not be banned just because it makes people uncomfortable.

But credible threats, certain defamatory falsehoods, social security numbers, and nude images posted without consent contribute little to discourse essential for citizens to govern themselves and discover truths. Their net effect is the silencing of victims. Victims could blog, post videos, and engage on social networks without fear of destructive cyber harassment. They could raise money using networked tools unencumbered by rape threats, reputation-harming lies, and distributed- denial- of- service attacks. They could take advantage of all of the expressive opportunities available online. Protecting against online harassment would secure the necessary preconditions for victims’ free expression.

With the help of law and the voluntary efforts of Internet intermediaries, parents, and teachers, we might someday achieve a free and equal Internet. We need to take action before cyber harassment becomes a normal feature of online interactions. A hostile online environment is neither inevitable nor desirable. We should not squander this chance to combat discriminatory online abuse; it is early enough in our use of networked tools to introduce equality of opportunity as a baseline norm of interaction.

For years, I've been stuck in a toxic household with an emotionally and psychologically abusive mother that frequently indulges in neglect and/or gaslighting.

I need to absolutely escape this because as a result of this bullcrap - I have been developing different mental health issues: I struggling with anxiety attacks, depressive episodes, problems focusing/memorizing/staying motivated, as well as social anxiety.

(I have also happen to have a crippling tech addiction since I was 6)

I have been getting cognitive behavioral therapy for these but recovery is being a bit rockier than anticipated as I can only contact my therapist exclusively online, as well as in secrecy because for my mom has some weird gripe with mental health experts that I have to frustratingly dance around.

My body also doesn't really co-operate either, with scoliosis and scoliosis-related symptoms (muscle/nerve weakness and headaches) giving me hell everyday and physicaltherapy being expensive makes matters worse.

harlow is one of my characters who, to be honest, dont have a concrete backstory yet due to me stalling/waiting until im more equipped with black/indigenous rep (aka i dont want to accidentally portray anything offensive /srs)

in Harlow's timeline, it's very much based on the old west (though, that doesn't necessarily mean it is the old west. because fuck america /hj) discrimination relating to sexuality and race isn't much of a thing either since yeah this is just me wanting to making cowboys and there are other problems

in this timeline, magic is more. like, less uhh fucking,, inherited? like you can't have powers. HOWEVER, you can have magic items.

this is because magic comes in the form of stars. stars that have fallen on the earth. theres a lot of old stars everywhere because before, no one bothered to dig them up. meteors (which here are also considered as stars. basically assume anything that falls from space is magic) contain the most pure form of magic but can only be used for one thing. then there's other related stuff like stars that have been in the water for a long time which ties into memory stuff. remember this one.

anyways lets talk about harlow themself lol (he/they)

harlow is a local outlaw who uses a regular revolver. boring, right? WRONG, their bullets are what's magic and have the magic powder in them.

so i actually forgot about this part because in the place where i rp them they got rehab but basically uhh glug glug you get the idea. during that long period in time, they rely on their luck more since the bullets they made have NO indication on what specific one they are. also they sadly do not care as much.

so later on in the story harlow does put small carvings on the shell to help them know what bullet they're using. regardless, they're still pretty lucky a lot. they rely on having a general goal / outline then making up the rest of their plans on the fly

their bullets i have so far are the following

teleportation bullets - think of portal guns except with a revolver. also with really cool magic circles. for these, harlow can shoot one bullet in one place and then the other bullet in another place. then anything that gets on top of the magic circle will end up where the other one is at.

portal bullet (non canon) - actual portals that lead to designated places.

' camera ' bullets - remember the water powder star thing? yeah that's what's used for this. basically, another one that uses two bullets. basically, harlow puts a magic circle in one room. puts one in the other. harlow can watch what's going on ' live ' in the other room while the magic circle that's showing him whats going on in that room is hidden (though is someone were to touch the area, the magic circle will reveal itself.)

there's more but i realized i should talk more about personality shit

so harlow is pretty chill. he doesn't ever plan to kill and only does it in self defense (doesn't tend to regret it afterwards) and mainly steals files from the rich (aka very much corrupt.) they either use it as blackmail or to honest be a nuisance.

they're not good at hand to hand combat BUT they're very good at dodging. they fast.

they also like value protecting innocents if they were like. being held captive. also kids, they care about children a lot. they're pretty good with kids but more in the silent type way/protecting way.

their love language is acts of service. so they'll probably give the person they care about something if they notice like.. anything is off/wrong if they feel like they shouldn't ask. they can be very silently loving but due to the type of love language it is- it can very easily go unnoticed

Okay now onto the dark stuff

One really big problem with the ninjago community and the main reason I don’t like wh*mp at all is because there seems to be a constant trend of cishet people writing fics about lgbt people be hurt or tortured for the fun of it and then joking about it

And the amount of fics about jay being harassed for being trans by cishets is absolutely astounding, its somehow a trend for people to just make Jays life filled with misery for being trans

Now the fic im going to be using for an example is pretty much long gone at this point, I’ve personally spoken to the writer before and they’ve recognized there mistakes and have rewritten the book. I’m just personally using because it’s a great example of this trend im talking about while not criticizing or tearing downs anyone’s current work.

But transgender jay : a ninjago story is an absolute perfect representation for how the community just likes to beat lgbt people over the head in there fics, I’ll be breaking down a couple points that I’ve seen pop up

- jay’s life fucking sucks

• trans people dont live in complete misery 24/7, while there are a lot of difficulties in being trans, it’s not the fault of trans people. In other words we don’t suffer BECAUSE we’re trans. A lot of these fics spread the idea that trans people don’t get to live happy lives because there trans

- making characters transphobic for no reason other then to make you feel bad for the character

• in this fic, Kai was made transphobic and lgbtphobic, and while the reason he is will be clear either. It’s clear from reading the fic that he’s only transphobic to give jay a reason to suffer even more. While transphobic people do exist, there making a character that would other wise be fine with this into someone who wouldn’t to make things even harder.

- very inaccurate portrayals of what it’s like to be trans

• outside of depicting Jays life as horrible, they also share very inaccurate depictions of what trans is actually like. Either by exaggerating it to make it seem worse or just flat out sharing really false information that’s actually harmful. In this fic, jay has a “dysphoria diary” where he keeps Track of everything that makes him dysphoric. Which is NOT a good or healthy thing to do when your trans, that would make your dysphoria WORSE.

- lgbtphobic people are only lgbtphobic because they’ve been rejected or hurt by lgbt people

• say it with me now it’s not lgbt peoples fault that they’re being discriminated and saying so is implying that lgbt people deserve to be attacked and harassed when they don’t, Kai is only transphobic and homophobic in this book because he was rejected by a trans guy

- jay is forced out of the closet

• don’t use something very personal and important to trans people as a plot point or a bad thing. Coming out of the closet is scary and it needs to be treated with the respect it does. Writing it as this horrible terrifying situation is only going to make people become more scared of it. Forcing a character out of the closet is very harmful to trans people in general

I could go on but I’m becoming to angry at this point to be able to explain these things rationally

And this isn’t just ONE fix, there are hundreds of them out there

And it’s not just for trans people either, the most popular whump fics and series in ninjago are about gay people getting hurt and abused ((often which by other gay people)) and are written by cishet people

And it’s a problem because it’s setting up STEREOTYPES for lgbt people

LGBT people are often viewed in media as tragic people who were forced into a life of misery and are often times the punching bags of the media they come from

And as a lgbt person, this fucking sucks! It’s SO discouraging to try to read fics about characters I project my sexuality or gender to only to be meet by dozens of fics about how there suffering

I don’t feel comfortable when I see cishet people go “oh looks like [character portrayed as lgbt] is hurting again 🤤🤤🤤”

If anything it makes me feel like I’m not in a safe space, I feel like these people just want to see me hurt, I don’t feel like a person because they treat people like me as ANIMALS

I dislike fanon a lot more then canon jay

Mostly for very petty personal reasons

Notes: don’t read the rest if u like fanon jay bc it might upset ur feelings, these are just my personal opinions and your allowed to headcanon or think of a character anyway you want. this entire post is meant to be /nm and /lh

The first and probably the most obvious reason is that I really don’t like how jay fans immediately jump on any character that even slightly makes fun of him

The biggest example obviously is Kai and how during s14 release people were literally advocating for Kai to die for saying jay was expendable

Completely ignoring that jay himself has made multiple inappropriate or harmful comments to Kai over the entire show and never once got called out for it

Im not one to stick by canon bc it sucks, but if your going to try to make it so that Kai dies in canon for something he did in canon then atleast be a little self aware for what jay did to Kai in canon

This also applies to cole and Nya, because jay fans just really love to turn them into assholes for the sake of making jay seem more likable.

Like I’m going to be real with you guys, even though Nya was the one who technically started the love triangle, jay was the one who blew it WAY out of proportion and caused it into a big fight.

Another thing that’s more of a personal opinion then any real criticism is that I’m not really comfortable is how the fandom kinda infantilize the character that gets headcanoned with having adhd and being trans the most

As both a trans person and w someone w adhd, it’s just really uncomfortable and annoying to me that the character that the fandom associated these things to the most is also the “uwu precious baby” of the fandom aswell

Infantlizing is a big stereotype that both communities have a problem with. And speaking from personal experience more on the adhd side, it’s hard enough to convince even my parents that I can actually take care of myself and I don’t need people to do it all the time. So seeing it be so common with this character is just really annoying
