Dave the Diver: On Aberrations
Between a scattering of recently discovered islands rests a jewel of paradise, mystery, and a hint of exotic danger. The famous Blue Hole has found a name for itself among the most envied tourist destinations among the world, with a gorgeous view, thrills to experience, and rich natural resources… but on a day like this, the scene has become anything but recognizable as the bustling hub described. That is because a ponderous fog has decided to linger over the lagoon by the time my vessel reaches port.
Despite the warm weather, I could feel my hairs standing on end from the very moment the clouds had enveloped our ship. Aside from the occasional day like this, fog horns would usually be a rare sound to hear across the bay. Since the discovery of the area, vacationers have enjoyed a tropical climate punctuated by mild storms. It all paints a picture so drastically unlike the eerie one I have pursued to this end. By sunset, I know that the white mist outside will give way to a crimson haze. With it, begins the investigation into the unusual animals only spotted on previous fogged nights: What familiar aberrants have made their way to the region, what are they capable of, and to where they fit within the additional puzzle of Blue Hole’s astounding ecosystem.
The Fog Coast, Part One
The hour is roughly 10pm, and “Blue” Hole has turned to a sight otherworldly. Thick, red vapors and an eerie silence hang in place of what was a starlight sky over the whistles of dolphins a mere night ago. The locals claim that the lagoon is an inscrutable locale, whose underwater geography both hosts an impossible collection of species and undergoes rapid, unexplained changes every few hours. On a night of crimson fog, it has been made enigmatic even from the surface view. Rocks easily seen by daylight make sailing close to the shorelines a hazardous endeavor along a coast with no lighthouse or other navigational indicators. It is a coastal venture treacherous, but also rewarding, for much more hides under these waves than the rocks. A watery gyre is barely seen at the edge of shiplight, and at its core, I have heard there can be found treasures far more interesting than mere gold.

[Testimony of a local fisherman]
“Now it’s not unusual for cod to happen up close to the shores at night. Obviously, I was hoping for it or I wouldn’t have been fishing in that stuff, but there was something else going on with these fish. Something not right. They weren’t taking to the bait, but they just kept coming up closer. Like they were trying best they could to get up on my ankles without getting stranded. Almost like they see someone standing on the beach and that’s all they’re interested in. Not that I let them, but they got close enough to tell something ugly about them. The only thing I managed to get hooked snapped my line before I could figure out what I was even looking at, other than big teeth and nasty looking eyes.“
Analysis: Our first descriptive cases of mutated cod corroborated with archived specimens from off the coast of Greater Marrow. Though there are instances where residents have managed to capture these codfish whole and live, no success has been found in attempting to keep them or any other mutated fish in captivity, due to their propensity to die shortly after they are harvested from the ocean. The two ‘flavors’ of tainted cod found here include the Fanged and Three-Headed variants, with no cases of hypertrophy. Their behavior has observed to feature heightened predatory behavior, to the point of stalking and testing large animals as oppurtunistic targets. They approach sluggishly at first, and lunge to close distances. They pose some hazard to swimmers, notably the unarmed, but can be reeled or netted as readily as any scrod. The three-headed cods are generally larger than the fanged variant, and both can be found close to the surface during a fog night.

[We join the crew of a commercial trawler, company left unnamed to permit this revord of the onboard operations. As the ship coasts upon the outskirts of one of the smaller outcrops, fishermen gather at the fresh haul to do their work. Mackerel from all global ranges and climates incredulously line the deck of the vessel, meticulously sorted into an array of containers. One worker calls out as an unusual sight is plucked from the pile- a brown shiner with half a dozen too many eyes for an average fish. The bosun indicates for me a specific container the individual is packed into. What I find there is a collection of similar wretches, scales still twitching and mouths gasping wet with a shimmering fluid.]
“We don’t actually come across that many of them in the nets. One for about every hundred of the healthy ones. Their meat is considered tainted and has to be separated from the catch, but we aren’t allowed to return them to the environment either. They’ll stay on ice for now, later today they’ll be dropped off with a merchant who’s agreed to handle the… disposal.”
Analysis: In spite of the sheer diversity of mackerel to be seen at Blue Hole, these turned pacific mackerel are the only shared species between Greater Marrow and this living collection in such regard. Specifically, the Many-Eyed and Grotesque mackerels found in shallower coastal water. Like most aberrants, they are prone to agitation and exhibit territorial, if not predatory aggression at first contact. Like all aberrations, their blood runs a purple hue, and their sightings dry up once the fog has dissipated.

[Shared anecdote from a lionfish diver]
“You have to really love a place like Blue Hole to do what I do. A lot of people don’t think of lionfish as an invasive species here, but they can do real damage to reefs where they’re not native, and ours are no exception. Worse still is that they’re far more aggressive here than anywhere else in the world, and not any less venomous. I thought if anyone was prepared to do a part in protecting local animals from these new pests, why not me? And yeah, I bagged a few. I speared things with a few too many eyes, a few too many heads, a few too many teeth. I found these great big ugly fish with no eyes at all that still would come right at you. And then I saw a… thing. The thing, Reason I don’t go night diving anymore. Came out of the dark like a ghost, black bones and green light. It didn’t look like something that should have even been real. I was lining a shot up and I felt like my arm had taken a lion’s barb. I didn’t even know what happened, that thing sparked, and I felt pure pain pulse through half of my body. Everything was panic after that. Panic to get back up and the hell out of the water. Fingers were still tingling almost until morning. All I know that I know is, I’m sticking to day hunting.”
Analysis: What’s to be expected was found in observation of the Tusked grouper. Despite their blindness, they show no hesitance to begin tracking and pursuing any nearby disturbance of water they sense. While their sole offensive boast is a strong mouth full of elongated teeth, the Voltaic variant wields a far less conventional weapon. When approached to a range of a couple of meters, it is capable of discharging a potent shock. Likely, this is utilized both as a defensive and hunting technique, similar to the currents produced by an electric eel. Similar accounts have attested to this stunning capability, reporting temporary paralytic effects from direct contact with the fish. Mechanism of this ability remains unknown. Especial caution recommended in presence of Voltaic grouper, not only for the risk of attack, but also from the drowning hazard posed by their stray arcs.

╰┈➤ ❝ [ I'll Bind Myself To You Over and Over ] ¡! ❞
Jinwoo continued to look for another week, but for some weird reason— The sea was incredibly calm.
Too calm.
It was maiing Jinwoo very restless, and his crew could see it. Igris tried to reason with Bellion and Beru to do something, anything to make their captain stop pacing back and forth on the dock. Even Iron couldn't do anything and would only take over the wheel.
No one in the ship knew what to do, even Tusk's famous fish stew wasn't doing it.
...
"Iron." Jinwoo's strict voice suddenly says as he strides towards the wheel.
The man didn't say much and only moved aside as their captain took over and suddenly spun the wheel rapidly.
"Bring down the sails!" He orders, and everyone suddenly scrambled on their feet to prepare the sails.
They didnt know what was on Jinwoo's mind, but they could tell that determined expression on the man's face was deadly.
"Captain, there's one far ahead on the east!" Kaisel reports.
"Get everyone ready, I want that ship." Jinwoo simply said as he had Kaisel take over. "We wont use the cannons.
There was a hammering feeling inside Jinwoo since early morning, and it was bothering him way too much.
His breathing had been erratic since then, he's never been this anxious even when he faced the holy emperor in the palace and had the old bastard bowing on his feet soon after.
But that's a story for another day.
That's not what's important right now, Jinwoo just knew, he needed that damn ship.
His instincts were never wrong, that's why he was crowned as the pirate king. Jinwoo's gut feeling have never failed him.
And for some reason, the direction of the ship is nagging the living hell out of it.
Jinwoo's grey gaze would land on his men who were utterly confused on why he ordered them not to use the cannons.
"There's something on that ship that I need," He simply said
"An illegal ship, sir?" Bellion asks as he handed Jinwoo his gun.
"Yes." Jinwoo confirms. "Whatever the hell is on that ship, I need it."
There were no further questions asked as the rest of the crew brandished their swords and loaded their guns.
The people on the other ship noticed the mother ship approaching and panicked, blaring the sirens— Warning the rest.
Pure chaos.
But soon, their expressions would pale as a rain of ropes suddenly blasted from the air and hooks embedded themselves on the wooden floors.
Thunderous, proud roars would come from the invading shifts as well as maddened cackles resounds. A bunch of wild pirates would come, climbing the ropes while behind them were gunfire— Preventing the defending parties to take time and prepare as bullets flew by and making men collapse here and there as psychopaths invaded the docks and started stabbing strangers; mauling them into pieces.
"...." Jinwoo's gaze was still steadfast, only firing a few bullets as he walked on the rope hurriedly.
His kids can do whatever the hell he wants, he needed to be somewhere else.
"Secure the ship, get the captain on his knees. If he runs, break his legs" Jinwoo commands, shoving a bloodied sword on Igris's chest as he passed by him.
He didnt even think twice to properly open the door and just shot the handle open, as well as gunning down some baffled crewmates inside the rooms.
Jinwoo continued to walk, his steps heavy and fast with purpose. slamming open some doors, unlocking gates before reaching the very end of the ship.
Blood splatters were on his face now, painting a wicked
Right at the very bottom, inside this giant moss-covered aquarium was a hand peeking on the little glass.
"...." He takes a deep breath, placing his palm against the glass were that small hand peeked.
There, a small light would come out as a warm feeling spread through his chest right where his injuries are.
"There you are, my bride" He whispers, jumping on top of the aquarium and hanging on the ledge as he lunged his arm inside the dirty waters where another palm would grasp his.
Jinwoo pulled the figure up, his other arm wrapping around the other's waist as he kissed the side of their head.
He felt as if that a heavy burden finally lifted off of his shoulders. But as much as Jinwoo wanted to just bask in the moment, he noticed the siren's tail was almost bald in some spots— Lacking tose fluorescent scales and instead a few gashes would come into view and his gaze would harden.
Jinwoo shrugged off his coat and wrapped it around his siren before hoisting them out of the filthy aquarium.
⋅ ˚ ₊ ‧ ଳ ‧ ₊ ˚ ⋅ ⋆ ౨ৎ ˚ ⟡ ˖ ࣪
Up in the docks, the floorboards was pooled with blood as Beru overlooked his crewmates celebrating their small impromptu ship invasion.
He would beam as he hears the door behind him creak and Jinwoo figure would emerge but his mouth would form a thin line as he sees the glare on Jinwoo's face.
Beru swears, that maybe he saw purple in that hardened gaze.
He knew that look so well, it was the type of face Jinwoo made when he rescued his sister from the clutches of the holy family.
Jinwoo is out for blood.
"A siren..." Igris whispers as he sees the humanoid in Jinwoo's arms wrapped in his coat.
"That captain, the damn bastard" Jinwoo snarls, his tone riddled with venom. "I want him in the dungeon. Have Iron prepare my equipment and station him there until I come there."
He then continues, "Igris, Tusk, with me. Bellion will take over from here and Kaisel will watch the ship."
⋅ ˚ ₊ ‧ ଳ ‧ ₊ ˚ ⋅ ⋆ ౨ৎ ˚ ⟡ ˖ ࣪
You didnt know what really happened, you were just resting on a rock after hunting for the whole day when there was a sharp pain on the back of your head. The next thing you knew, you were strapped on a bed with your delicate scales being plucked out forcefully as the humans laughed at your display of pain.
Your shrieks would be ignored as they wore something over their ears while cotinuing to take one scale after another.
The torture was long, you couldn't even count how many have passed as you were in and out of conciousness the whole time.
The humans who captured you didnt even have the heart to give you a proper meal and only tossed some bland seaweed to the poorly kept tank.
You swore, you were about to die— Until a familiar warm hand grasped yours and yanked you out of the dirty waters. Your eyes had been too heavy for you to open, and neither could you make out the sounds around you.
All you knew— Was that you are safe and sound.
The next time you opened your eyes, you are cuddled up in this soft... White things hugging your body, as well as a pair of grey eyes gazing into you.
Initially, you freaked out, thrashing about but the man gently held your shoulders to keep you steady.
"Hey, hey, ssh, it's okay," His voice would register, and your gaze would look up to see him. "Look at me, look at me, do you know who I am? Hmm?"
You can understand him.
Alarmed and curious, you reach your hand out to touch his cheek, and the man only responds by nuzzling your palm and kissing it.
A familiar gesture, a gesture a small human boy did when you were younger.
Jinwoo.
"Remember me?" Jinwoo asks again, and you nod your head.
He lets out a relieved sigh and pulls you in for an embrace.
"I've been looking all over for you, my bride" He whispers so tenderly, kissing your cheek while rubbing your back. "Look at you, my siren, you're so pretty now. But they hurt you so bad, hmm? I'm sorry, I should've come earlier, love. I really am, but it's okay, you're okay. I'm here. I wont leave, I promise."
His gentle voice stirs something in your chest, and you could only respond by nuzzling him further while making soft broken sounds.
"Ssh," Jinwoo hushes you, rubbing your head. "Tusk said that you'll need more rest, sirens heal slower than humans. But since you're bonded to me, it should speed things up"
He pulls back, fixing your hair as you looked down and saw a blanket on top of you, but underneath wasnt a tail.
"It's legs," He chuckles, kissing your cheek. "It must be because you're near me, but don't worry, we can get your tail back. We just... erm... Need to figure it out. We'll do that once you're better, yeah?"
He cooes, peppering your face with more pecks that brought out a giggle in your lips. Jinwoo takes your hand, placing it on his chest where the mark was.
"Go to sleep now, I'll be here in the morning and the day after. Even in the following days" He whispers, gently tucking you back in as he did. "Don't worry about anything else, clear your mind."
⋅ ˚ ₊ ‧ ଳ ‧ ₊ ˚ ⋅ ⋆ ౨ৎ ˚ ⟡ ˖ ࣪
"Captain, the hostage is awake" Kaisel knocks on the door gently. "Your equipment has also been brandished."
"Good," Jinwoo hums, running his hand on your hair before getting up. "Watch over my siren. Should the pretty thing wake up while I'm in the dungeon, call me immediately."
He continues, "After this, I'll host a party for all of you."
Kaisel simply nods, smiling as he watches the captain got out of the quarters.
His gaze would turn cold in an instant, Jinwoo marched down to the dungeon area of the ship with his fists tightly closed.
That bastard dared to actually hurt you, your injuries were so extensive that your tail was almost grey from the abuse. When it turned into legs— Anyone would have vomit at the sight of cuts and peeled skin. It took so much willpower for Jinwoo not to have broke down as Igris, Tusk and Beru worked together in patching your injuries.
"I wonder what kind of scalpel you used" Jinwoo hums, running his hand along the neatly arranged set of daggers on the table as Iron dragged the bastard on the floor in front of his captain. "Scalpels are too delicate, making them very useless on the field."
He then picks up pliers, making the man squirm and sob on his gag as he attempts to crawl away but Iron kept him steady.
"Easy there, buddy" Jinwoo chuckles, his grey orbs turning into monarch purple. "I haven't even started yet,"
He then sits down on the chair prepared for him.
"For every scale you plucked out of my bride's tail, for every single day you kept that pretty doll captive, for every second you spent making them writhe in pain— I will make sure you experience all of it tenfold if not a hundred."

Oncorhynchus rastrosus
first art of 2025 is a fish! starting off strong a female Oncorhynchus rastrosus, the spike-toothed salmon. it's commonly misrepresented as a massive sockeye salmon with tusks slapped on, but we know that they didnt undergo any drastic levels of sexually dimorphic remodelling
Tumblr media
for those who wonder what males look like, the majority of the dimorphism isnt noticeable as the it's present in internal skull bones and minor proportional differences, however, one way to tell is males only have one dentary tooth and lack the smaller additional premaxillary one

And loves to eat & eat & would love a properly cooked meal. preference to high protein meals, very rich, very tasty, salty & fatty. so Im sure if u wanted to tackle him, in particular, could have fun with that..... (Slaps a giant fish on the table. Token of affection. Totally Wont Eat You ) The Moon.......... is a lot quieter and subdued, but actually a far better caretaker. takes care of hurt animals; would probably take care of a hurt human, too. mmm hot cocoa. much pickier eater, he doesnt like much, and he doesnt like to eat meat.... 💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌
The hall is quiet as you step out from your room. You strain to listen for any sign of life, nothing. Must be out. Good. That gives you more time.
Your eyes take a moment to adjust to the shadowed hallway, not nearly as bright as your windowed room. Though, you weren't opposed to keeping the lights off. It saved energy for one—which meant warm floor beneath your feet as you pad through the facility—and two, it kept the not as friendly yeti from making an appearance. Which, yourself and Moon were both in agreement about at least.
When you'd first gotten here, so many months ago now, your first encounter with the yeti, robot, thing—you still haven't quite figured that one out—was less than, pleasant. Though, that may very well have been due to the state he first saw you in. Which was bloodied, bruised, and vulnerable. And as Moon would later explain it to you, that had triggered something in counterpart. Something more instinct than logical.
Luckily for you, a ragged chase into a darkened cavern had saved you from suffering any further injury, or worse.
Instead, you got Moon, and he was thankfully much calmer than the other bot. He also wasn't trying to kill you, so you took what you could get. He patched you up, gave you a place to stay, a nice warm bed out of the cold, and plenty of things to do while you recovered.
When you'd first ventured out into the snow, having heard the rumors of the 'ice devil' you'd be facing, this hadn't been what you'd expected.
Delivish upon first glance, sure. Those tusks didn't help anything, that's for certain. Not to mention Sun as a whole, the manic energy he radiated, the wild look in his eyes, the raw strength as he'd pinned you down to "Try a bite"—
But still, with Moon at the very least, the rumors didn't match up.
He was quiet, even a bit stern in certain cases, but polite. He took his directives very seriously, but beyond that, he held a compassion you wouldn't ever have expected of a machine. Though, maybe it was because he was a bit more than that, they both were.
Regardless, you owed him for not abandoning you out there in the frozen tundra to die. Much less putting in the effort he had to care for you.
As you traverse the hall now, there's only the slightest pain still left in your ankle as you shuffle. You'd left the crutches behind today, as you had been the past several mornings, despite the lunar-themed yeti's insistence for otherwise.
That was another thing, the care. For a so-called devil, he had the attitude of a saint. Or well, you didn't know any saints, so a good friend then. A very good friend, at that.
You found yourself in long conversations that would last hours, either listening to that quiet tone regale you with stories of all his travels, or sharing some of your own experiences prior to meeting them. You enjoyed the walks you'd take together through the caverns, or going with him out into the arctic—on the rare trips he would allow you with your injury—to scout for poachers and the likes.
And those rare moments you could get him to laugh at one of your jokes, it lit something inside you that you couldn't describe. Something that albeit would be a bit more frightening than it already was if not for your situation.
You think the combination of getting your foot caught in a bear trap, freed and then chased by a rabid yeti-bot, and then saved by the other side of that same yeti-bot, allowed you some freedom when it came to your feelings.
But that wasn't the point to what you were doing. Rather, you wanted to show your appreciation for Moon, not your feelings. Nevermind the fact that today did just so happen to be Valentine's, having found out by checking the date on your half-dead phone.
Besides, You didn't even know if it was even possible for him to return such affections. Truthfully, you preferred not knowing if it meant you could keep this peace you've had for so long now. You were almost afraid for when you fully healed.
Afraid that the moment you could leave, you'd be kicked out, back into the cold to survive to find your own way back to society. That the past few months were nothing but a ruse, set up by Moon and in fact once you were at a good range, your back turned and unaware, Sun would bear down on you and—
You shake your head, no. Despite your initial encounter, Sun had been fine. He wasn't allowed out much, so you didn't speak much, though you also think he would prefer not to. It didn't necessarily have to do with you in particular, you don't think.
Whereas Moon was more oriented to stay on task, Sun had his own personal drive to fulfill. You'd yet to figure out exactly what that was yet, however. Besides the desire to hunt and kill just for the thrill of it. Whatever it was, with your injury, you simply didn't fit into it. You had no use—for now—so he left you to your own devices.
For now.
You flip on the light to the kitchen area as you enter, dimmed lighting now illuminating the space.
You'd been surprised to find there was indeed working cooking equipment in the research station. Not originally all in the same space, but with a bit of help, you'd dragged everything functional into one space.
When it came to ingredients, you didn't have much to work with besides what either yeti brought to you. There was some very old canned food you'd found, and several containers of unopened spices, but beyond that it was slim pickings. The crate of hot coco you'd found had been a godsend. Considering the situation though, you weren't going to complain.
The idea of making a meal had come from the simple fact of the matter that beyond hunting and protecting, Moon nor Sun did much else. So, providing nourishment would have to be your way to pay back their hospitality. Or at least, Moon's hospitality. If Sun enjoyed something you made, you'd consider that in and of itself a victory.
So, you set to work immediately. Opening the fridge, you pulled out one of the the few items in there, a massive bluefin tuna, which took up the majority of the space. You struggle to take it out, much less carry it with wobbling limbs over to the island. When you put it on the counter, you almost swear you hear it creak under the weight.
You step back and let out a breath, admiring the giant fish for a moment. While the two really only ate for fuel—a fish like this would just simply be devoured as is from what you'd seen—you knew they could taste, and that when presented with chances to try something that was flavored in some regard, they did seem to enjoy it. Especially Sun, having taken one bite of your beef jerky and snatching the rest away for himself when you'd not been paying attention.
Though you only had the one fish and just a few other ingredients to work with, you had several ideas in mind for how to properly utilize it. Taking the large butcher knife, you cleaned, gutted, and scaled it, and divided it up into proper pieces.
The loin you'd make steaks out of, pan searing and basting in fats, utilizing the bit of pepper and spices you had available. You set aside three to cook and stored the rest in the freezer.
The back you would smoke, creating some jerky from the pieces there. Thankfully, Moon kept firewood around in case the power failed entirely, and you doubted he would notice a few pieces going missing. You'd utilized one of the broken freezers for your smokehouse.
The belly would be raw, sliced thin and served with a bit of the salty roe that you'd discovered inside the fish initially.
As for the remaining bits of the fish, you'd stew the bones for a broth and fry the collar and cheeks as one final touch to finish off the meal.
It was a lot, all things considered, and for them it may very well be next to nothing in comparison to their appetites, especially Sun's. But, that wasn't going to deter you from trying your best to make something from your heart. So, you got to work.
You had no idea when Moon would return, so you tried your best to work both quickly and effectively. Thankfully, since several items were basic prep, they took very little time to come together. You enjoyed it, the process overall. After all the time being spent on you, being able to give back felt gratifying in its own way, exciting even. Again, ignoring your own feelings about the yeti.
At some point, you even find a small radio, the batteries still good to your delight. Despite your location, you can just barely catch a signal as sappy love songs play from some far away station. You hum and dance and sing to the music as you cook, the time passing by like nothing to you in your focused state. You even are able to make yourself some hot coco, sipping on it throughout the cooking process.
You're so focused, even, that you don't notice the towering presence hovering around the other side of the counter until you turn directly to face it. You were just setting down the last bit of the meal, ready to sit and wait for Moon's return, so color you shocked when you find yourself face to chest with Sun instead.
His head cocked to the side as he looks down at you, expression unreadable as he examines you with that calculated stare.
"You've been busy." He states.
You come out of your daze, shaking your head. "I-yeah. I have."
"Tore up the meat. A pity. I was going to enjoy that." He picks at one of his claws, you see a hint of red stained there before he glances back up to you, grin wide. "Though, it's not nearly as good as when it's fresh, anyhow."
You both know that fresh isn't quite what he's implying.
You swallow, while you'd been expecting Moon—and would have preferred him, especially in this case—this was technically a gift for the day-themed yeti too.
Deciding you weren't going to let your lingering fear overtake you, you straighten up, and steady your voice. "This is all for you, actually. And Moon, of course. I, wanted to extend my thanks for, allowing me to stay these past few months." This again was technically all for Moon, but you couldn't exactly say that with Sun standing right in front of you.
"I—Me?" He questions, eyes widening and grin falling.
You nod. "Yeah, I um, figured that something made with a bit more care might be something you guys liked. I noticed you never really get the chance to... add more flavor to things, and you seemed to like my snacks in the past so, i just—" You stop when you find that he's eye to eye with you now, baring down on you with a serious expression you weren't anticipating.
"You made us, me, a meal?" The way the words are half-snarled mere inches from your face makes you flinch.
"Y-yes?"
Sun stares at you for a bit longer, and if you weren't so alarmed you'd move away. But you don't.
After a few moments more, he huffs, then starts to chuckle, standing straight again. "Aren't you just so interesting, Little Star?"
You feel confusion knit your brows only for them to shoot up in shock as Sun's hand suddenly grasps your chin, leaning in again.
His other hand snatches one of the pieces of raw fish from the table, eating it in one bite. "Such an offering from you is, surprising but, despite your, obvious misconceptions about our relationship, I suppose I can consider it." He tilts your head this was and that. "You're not the worst option I've ever been presented with."
"I, huh?"
He let's you go again, grabbing one of the steaks with his bare hands. His teeth tear through it like it's nothing. You can only watch as you try to understand what he's saying, not entirely comprehending it.
When he's finished, he wipes his mouth, snickering to himself. "I certainly can't wait to see what he thinks of your proposition. I'm sure it will be entertaining to say the least."
Before you can respond, he walks over to the light switch, dimming the lights as low as possible, thus allowing for Moon to take his place.
As the switch occurs, Sun makes one final remark, and it all finally clicks to you. "Something you should keep in mind though if I do accept, Sunshine, is that I don't share."
With that, you're left with an embarrassing realization, and Moon.
You can't make eye contact with him, instead turning around and starting to busy yourself with cleaning up to distract from the burning feeling spread across your cheeks.
You can't believe you didn't put together that something like this would mean something like that to them. But it's not like you would have known either! How were you supposed to understand the cultural differences between humans and yeti-robots that lived in abandoned research centers? This feels like something that was on them and not you to be honest.
Your half-delusioned reasonings do nothing to stop the racing in your heart as you clean, and you just hope to finish up quickly, grab a snack for yourself, and get out of there to keep yourself from any further embarrassment.
"It's very good, Starlight."
You pause for a moment, then hum. "Y-yeah?"
"Yes. The amount of flavor you've packed into each dish is... incredible." Moon says, sounding genuinely a bit in awe.
It only worsens your state, mumbling back a quiet response. "I'm, I'm glad you like it."
Quiet between the two of you. The radio still plays softly throughout the space, only disrupted by the sound of clinking as you clean things up, or Moon's utensils scraping against each other.
"So what Sun said—" "You should eat too—"
You both stop, and looking back to him, you laugh softly.
You nod. "You first."
"Join me." He pats a seat next to him. "It's only fair after the effort you've put in."
"Oh! Okay."
You try not to make a fool of yourself as you make your way over and sit down. You can only protest as Moon piles you a plate full of food, depositing it in front of you once he's finished.
He hands you a fork, chuckling at the scowl on your features. "You need your energy too, if you want to stand any chance at getting better."
"You're not wrong." You sigh, taking a bite of the smoked fish. As you'd hoped, it's delicious, and you appreciate your own efforts to make such good food in that moment.
"So,"—Moon reaches for a bit of the fried collar—"You were saying?"
You almost choke on the bite you just swallowed. You regain your composure to answer. "I, um, Sun mentioned, that um, something like this was very, very, important to you guys in a specific way. Which, honestly I didn't know and I'm so sorry if I've offended you I just wanted to do something nice—"
You're interrupted by a kiss pressed to your forehead.
"I would say offended is nowhere close to the feelings you've elicited. Honestly." The night-themed yeti states, amusement between the words. "Rather, I find myself rather interested in your proposal, intentional or not."
Your eyes widen ever further. "Pr-proposal?"
"If I'm misreading, then I am sorry, Star. But I—"
"No!" You shake your head, trying again. "No, you're not um, misreading. But again this wasn't my intent at all. I'm definitely all for it. I mean, to a point you know, sorry this isn't something I ever expected to happen but I really do like you, a lot and—"
Instead of a kiss, a piece of tuna is pressed into your mouth, and with how good it is you can't say for sure that you'd prefer the kiss or not. As you chew, a slight scowl on your features, Moon laughs. It makes your heart flutter for a moment.
"I really like you too. I wasn't sure that you'd feel the same, so I didn't act on those feelings. But, since you've shown that you clearly feel something,"—He snickers as you shoot him another glare—"For me, I'm more than happy to make it clear to you now."
"Gee, thanks."
Another kiss is pressed to your hair, arm wrapping around you and you welcome it, snuggling into the warm fur next to you. You grab a piece of tuna, munching on it to hide your fluster in that moment.
"And since he's already said it, I will too." Moon's voice is right next to your ear in that moment, low but lethal.
"I don't share either."

First off, love this AU so much (honestly it's just nice seeing shadowpeach be happy) thank you.
Secondly, has MK ever met and/or interacted with the rest of the brotherhood, and if so, what are his thoughts?
He’s definitely met them before, they are part of his dad’s court.
As for their relationship, I think I’m just gonna leave that to when I get to those points of the story in the comic, but I’ll give a brief summary
DBK: Loves that guy, would say one of his favorite uncles but like too many people would jump DBK to win the title. Has always been part of his life so he is very close with the guy. DBK would sometimes take Red Son and MK fishing when they have time, happens more often once MK starts living more in the mortal realm. They’re like this🤞trust
Yellow Tusk: MK has had him as a teacher for various different topics growing up, he loves that no matter what he asks Yellow Tusk always answers with the most sincerest voice and even gives logical answers to his questions even if they are supposed to be silly. Loves the guy would recommend as a teacher 10/10👍
Peng: Bird Man, bit him once did not taste like chicken😔 0/5 stars on yelp,,, he has a deep distrust with the guy because of the way he has seen him disrespect Macaque, though he learned what silent revenge was from his Mom that day, when Peng walked into the court room a few hours later with half his feathers burned to a crisp, and his mom was trying hard not to laugh and had a smug smile. Mom=1, Bird Man=0
Azure: this is one is complicated, and this is coming from me as the writer, I’m still not set with how I will write Azure in the Au, whether that is just as a side character or and antagonist of kinds. Definitely won’t be the main antagonist but I do like how his character is complex in canon, so I’m heavy debating rn. But for now assume MK’s view of him is complicated, he just can’t put his finger on it.
Anyways that’s all I can say for now😌✌️

Orc (Leif) Blacksmith x fem! Hunter! Reader /P.3
1.2k words // wounds and handholding // Leif just wants to be yours // MDNI // suggestive // Part one • Part two • Part four//
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You stayed after tending to Leif’s wounds. You recall how his olive skin felt so soft against your rough hands, his body shivering under your frenzied touch. His smooth, firm muscles yielded to your grip as you worked.
His smile never wavered, even as you pulled a needle through his flesh. You remember the warmth of his breath on your neck as you closed each stitch. Those tusks… dangerous and adorned with silver and gold rings, you had the urge to touch them again.
What are you thinking? He destroyed the only gift your father left you. And yet… he saved you, risking his life against a bear tougher than any you’d ever dealt. No one else would have dared.
Images of last night flash through your mind- his hands, claws, teeth, and blood. He fought fiercely, unhesitatingly, to protect you. And here you are, remembering all the harsh words you’ve thrown at him. Yet, despite everything, he saved you. A swell of guilt rises, tightening your chest.
“I should have forgiven him. It’s what Father would have done,” you mutter to yourself, gazing out the window as the first light of dawn spills over the horizon.
Leif was different. Unlike the other orcs you’ve encountered on your travels through forests and villages, he didn’t try to take from you. He gave. Orcs were always minacious, the most ruthless- until Leif. Perhaps he was raised by kind fae or by parents who rejected the brutish ways of their kin.
But none of that matters now. Leif has been nothing but generous and kind, to you and the townsfolk. Even after the accident, he tried to make amends, and you refused him. Father taught you to recognize a friend- honest, loyal, generous. A foe takes, hurts, ravages. Leif, despite everything, was a friend.
“I’ll make it up to him,” you vow quietly as you grab a wooden harpoon near the back door, heading out.
———
Leif woke to a jolt of pain in his shoulder, the wound from the bear you had stitched up for him. Groaning, he rolled out of his bed, tossing aside the blankets made of hides and woven fabric.
The kitchen and lounge were empty. Panic clawed at his chest. Where did you go? Did you leave him?
His mind spiraled into anxious thoughts. The settee where you had argued about sleeping at had a noticeable dip, but it was cold- you had been gone for a while. Leif’s heart sank as tears welled in his eyes. “Am I really that bad?” he whispered, his gaze dropping to the floor.
His knees met the wooden boards as he sank down, overcome with despair.
The back door creaked, protesting the movement of its old hinges. You entered, dripping with water, skewered fish dangling from the sharpened stick.
Leif’s eyes widened. You didn’t leave him. You went fishing. Relief and confusion warred on his face.
“What’s going on, Leif?” you ask, your brows furrowed. You set the fish in the tin sink, wiping your hands dry before turning back to him.
He blinked, still on his knees. “I thought… I thought you had left,” he admitted, his voice breaking with despair.
You sighed, stepping closer. “I’m staying until you’re healed, whether you like it or not.” Your blunt words were laced with emotion.
Leif’s olive skin deepened with a flush. “I’m fine! You-u don’t have to baby me,” he stammered, unsure how to respond.
Rolling your eyes, you reached out, pulling him to his feet. “I’m not babying you; I’m helping. It’s my fault you were hurt, so I’m going to take care of you.” Your gaze was fierce as you met his whiskey-colored eyes.
He sighed in surrender. “Fine. If that’s what you want…” He couldn’t bring himself to argue. He was simply grateful you were still there, choosing to stay by his side.
You nodded firmly. “Good. Now sit down while I cook. You need to rest.” You guided him to the dining table, where he reluctantly complied, a soft smile tugging at his lips. The idea of you wanting to
take care of him filled his chest with warmth.
———
The smell of your cooking roused Leif from his thoughts. He hummed with appreciation as you set a plate in front of him. The fish was perfectly seasoned, sided with buttered potatoes. His stomach growled in anticipation.
“Thank you, my moon,” he murmured, his voice soft as he took the first bite. His eyes widened, a moan escaping his lips. “So good…” he mumbled between mouthfuls.
You arched a brow, a grin on your lips. “Your moon, huh?”
Leif blushed deeply but grinned. “I… I’m glad you like it,” you teased as you began to eat your own plate.
Leif shifted his chair closer, offering you a chunk of potato between his fingers. “Try it- it’s delicious!” he insisted, excitement shining in his eyes.
You laughed, pointing to your own plate. “I have some, Leif.”
“Oh, right…” He faltered, embarrassed. “Where I come from, we share food. I sometimes forget-”
You silenced him with a gentle touch to his hand. “It’s okay, Leif. Let’s share.” You leaned in to take the bite in his hand, your lips brushing his fingers. The simple gesture made his heart race
Leif’s thoughts wandered. He wanted to keep you with him, to never let you go.
——
The sun had risen by the time you both awoke the next morning. Conversations that stretched late into the night had lulled you into sleep on the settee, your head resting on Leif’s upper arm.
When you stirred, Leif groaned, mumbling in what you guessed was Orcish. “Krásná…” he whispered, his eyes half-lidded as he took in the sight of you.
“What does that mean?” you asked with a sleepy smile. “You should teach me your language.”
Leif’s eyes lit up. “I will, měsíční svit,” he promised. The name came out like a reverent whisper, his gaze soft.
A thought struck him, and his eyes brightened further. “I need to visit my mother- matka,” he added quickly, translating for you.
You paused, turning to face him fully. “You’re well enough to travel if you really want to go,” you said thoughtfully. Is she the one who raised you to be so… kind? You think staring into his whiskey eyes.
Leif’s face softened as he shared the contact. My matka knows of you from my letters, but she’s never met you, she’ll adore you… His thoughts wavered with hope. “Would you come with me? It’s only a two-day journey.”
You smiled, a spark of adventure lighting your eyes. “Why not? It’s been a while since I’ve left the village. It could be fun aye?.”
Leif’s heart soared, a smile creasing his face. “Thank you, my moon.”
He watched you pack supplies, his mind filled with plans of showing you his world, of bringing you deeper into his life. Whatever lay ahead, he was determined to prove he was worthy of your trust and perhaps, one day, your heart.

Ooh! Of course! :D
Daily fish fact #639
Sabertooth salmon!
Tumblr media
These massive fish were no joke, as they could grow to be over two meters in length (6'7''~)! They had large sideways-facing tusks which were most likely used for defending their territory. Despite their formidable tusks, the sabertooth salmon are speculated to be planktivores, as their gill rakers were long and numerous!

Runaway!GN!Reader meets their new trio of dragons...
Timeline: Race To The Edge [Part 1]
Runaway!Reader who fled their island in the middle of the night, only hours after hearing about their betrothal to some other tribe's heir.
Runaway!Reader who stumbles upon a Deathgripper that's injured, but still ready to fight and kill off any threats. It's stinger at the end of it's tail is exposed and ready to strike...until the Reader leaves and returns with fish they've managed to catch.
As the large dragon finally decides he can resist the fish no more, he begins to devour each one whole until nothing remains.
The Reader is just sitting there with their legs crossed and admiring this very dangerous dragon, mind racing with names and thoughts while the Deathgripper just stares back.
Finally settling on the name DeathStrike, after multiple growls and threatening displays at the other names mentioned, Runaway!Reader notices how the sun is beginning to set and starts to panic a bit.
As night falls, they realize just how much danger was really lurking about because where there's one Deathgripper, there's a pack of them.
Two more, equally frightening and dangerous, come charging out to defend the larger dragon with their tusks and stingers at the ready...but their injured pack mate snarls at them to back off.
DeathStrike has taken a liking to his new human!
He manages to stand and it's even clearer that he is the largest Deathgripper infront of Reader who's taken a few steps back and is panicking at the thought of being this pack of dragon's meal. They cower as the dragons approach and surround them, closing their eyes and tensing up as they prepare for pain.
But it never happens.
Instead they feel the snout of DeathStrike press against their hair, deep breaths inhales and hot puffs of air hit their skin, their eyes slowly open to see a lack of hostility amongst the pack.
A small pack of three male Deathgrippers isn't common amongst the species, but it also wasn't very common for these dragons to just claim a human as their new companion.
But now you're stuck with the trio of Deathgrippers who aren't keen on letting you go.
Imagine the first meeting with the Dragon Riders...

Ninoziphius platyrostris was an early beaked whale that lived during the late Miocene (~6 million years ago) in warm coastal waters covering what is now southwestern Peru. Its ancestors appear to have branched off from all other beaked whales very early in the group's history, indicating a "ghost lineage" going back to at least 17 million years ago.
About 4.4m long (~14'5"), it was less specialized for suction feeding and deep diving than modern beaked whales. Also unlike most modern species its jaws were lined with numerous interlocking teeth, with heavy wear suggesting it may have hunted close to the seafloor, where disturbed sand and grit would have regularly ended up in its mouth along with its prey and steadily ground down its teeth during its lifetime.
Males had a pair of stout tusks at the tip of their upward-curving lower jaw, with possibly a second smaller set of tusks behind them, which were probably used for fighting each other like in modern beaked whales.
Its shallow water habitat and more abrasive diet suggest Ninoziphius' lifestyle was much more like modern dolphins than modern beaked whales, and other early beaked whales like Messapicetus similarly seem to have occupied dolphin-like ecological niches.
These dolphin-like forms disappeared around the same time that true dolphins began to diversify, possibly struggling to compete for the same food sources, while other beaked whales that had begun to specialize for deep sea diving survived and thrived. Interestingly this ecological shift seems to have happened twice, in two separate beaked whale lineages – although only one of them still survives today – with bizarre bony "internal antlers" even independently evolving in both groups.
