just a disclaimer that i understand lawsuits are never a good thing for them. it’s long, tedious and expensive. also, most passer by don’t care and if they see the defamatory remarks, that will stick no matter how many clarifications are done or lawsuits won.

so on 1/15 yuehua released the developments of the lawsuits they filed and one of them is a big name fan of xz. and today, 1/19 xz’s law firm representative did the same and you can see a fan of wyb is there too. these so-called fans both slandered the other, so they are well within their rights to sue. even if most fans’ excuse is that they are “defending” their idol by being an absolute horrible & toxic person. not to mention, they are influencing their followers to do the same which can lead to bigger problems. although i have to say, those bnfs have no remorse. some even see it as a badge of honor for protecting their fave that they are being silenced. go figure 🤦‍♀️

these lawsuits are never about xz versus wyb. it’s them exercising their right to protect their reputation. if anything, it should be a warning to both sides to behave. there is just no universe where these two boys love the idea of their fans being internet criminals. both of them and their studios have communicated multiple times for fans to be civilized. it’s mostly toxic fan culture that feeds it.

now let me go to the cpn side of things, which is how this reminds us of that time they sued the same company. these recent lawsuits did not materialize overnight, i speculate that it’s been some time and both of them have agreed to do something about the slander going on. it’s not a coincidence too that the announcements happened days after the other. there are conversation on how xz’s team appeared to have sued first and then announced later because the statement said they already have the real name identification of the users. in the meantime, wyb’s side said they are still in the process of doing so to properly file it. so hilarious that some sea creatures are saying that xz is avenging them lol. so how did he know that wyb was gonna sue one of his fans? when his (xz) law firm did it first? there is no avenging going on. these two and their teams obviously talked to each other about this and have come to an agreement that they must stop the source of the problem. as they should. 💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻

it’s not only matching clothes, phone case, camera etc — now it’s matching lawsuits 😅😅😅

there is also an angle where cpfs are saying these two don’t sue turtles for slander. you all know some so/os would love for us to be sued because of CPN. but we have safety nets that we implement so as not to mention their real names, but that’s more of protecting them and less of not wanting to be dragged into a lawsuit. interpret that however you want. i’m not saying we can run free and do whatever we want, because if a cpf does something that is warrants legal actions, i will be all for it.

Onward!

As promised here is the start of my onward rework project.

I feel like this is taking forever In a project that was intended to be low effort… oh well.

And the more I work on it the more I feel like it’s not the greatest.

The world building of onward is a bit shallow (not necessarily a bad thing) and is only there to serve the movie. Which leads to some implications. All explained to the best of my poor communication abilities in that post.

Now my world building on this is also rather shallow. But it’s casting a broader net. I mainly focus on giving a vague sense of history and diversity in cultures.

So warning long post incoming:

The world of Onward. (Any suggestions for a good name for the planet itself?)

A world with two moons.

The world has relatively extreme tides due to this.

Most of the worlds land consist of islands with large shorelines. Steep cliffs or fields of tide pools

The tide pools and long shores are home to mermaids and selkies and sirens.

The world is also highly volcanically active. With a large “ring of magma” that is home to hundreds of active volcanos.

The ring of magma is also home to millions of thousands islands and the billion people who call them home.

next to the magma belt is a long series of hot spots, called the dragon vildlands (wild lands) this place as the name suggests is home to hundreds of species of dragons and sea serpents, but also just as many audacious people who make that place their home, and even ride the dragons that they keep as companions.

The storming sea is part of the dragon wild lands and has, as the name suggests, a wild weather patterns. Just as often covered in fog, as it is in turmoils waves, or thunderstorms cyclones, whirlpools and water spouts are a common occurrence.

Nestled in the cradle of the storming sea is the continent of silvervale. Not “discovered” until the age of guilds.

Silverveil remains to this day a rather unpopulated and isolated continent. It’s the subject of great curiosity to a lot of outsiders.

South of the storming sea, lays the Sea of Aspidochelone. Or as it’s more commonly referred to as is Turtle Islands is an open ocean populated by a unique kind of sea turtle known as a Aspidochelone, they grow to the size of large islands and it’s unknown for how long they can live, though several specimens are reported to be at least a thousand years of age. The two largest ones are the black shell turtle, Genbu and the white shelled turtle, Kurma. People live on the backs of these giants. And the especially large ones rarely submerge themselves so it is relatively safe. Though turtle islands are generally more popular as homes with sea dwelling species like mermaids.

To the west of the turtle islands are the dark islands. Named so for the strange nature of the islands and the people who live there. Many an evil overlord from the age of yore came from these islands or retired to there.

Now days they are filled with more ruins and artifacts than you can shake a stick at. There’s a saying on the islands that “if you stick a shovel in the dirt you’ll dig up an ancient artifact of power.”

It’s a popular destination for tourism due to the beautiful scenery and long stretches of picturesque beaches.

Less so for the history and culture of the place, though some people do come there for those things too.

North of it is the continent of Kentauria. It’s sparse in population and home to the most diverse population of animals, plants and people in the world, it’s mostly covered In a thick tropical rainforest and a deep swamp.

Many creatures not shown in the illustrations of this rework are found there. Swamp beasts, curses and mystery abound.

Above the large continent of kentauria is the star sea. It’s a place more ancient than any other. Filled with wild crackeling magic and mysterious machinery. It’s so ancient it’s considered prehistoric, and the fallen stars that are seen on the surface of water are a mystery in and of themselves. There are many companies in the modern world that go out to the sea for collecting energy resources. There is also a good deal of comercial fishing and mining there.

(( for those who know, this addition is a jab at the Pixar theory, because why not))

Next to the star sea is the star of the show. The continents of Ordor, Strix and Lemuna.

These three continents have the largest populations and such though globally it’s less than people who live on islands.

Ordor

The largest of the three continents and a culturally rich place. It was the home of the cyclops empire and later on the vampire warlords and the reigns of three evil warlock overlords.

It has a large desert on it called the mirage desert, it has many mountain ranges and a handful of volcanic regions, including the infamous fire swamp, home to fire rodents of unusual size. But also the breathtaking rainbow valley. A place considered sacred or haunted by many groups.

Home to the kingdom of Zodia and the zodiac academy. One of the premiere learning facilities on the world as well as home to the worlds largest library.

Cyclopia is the reunited home territory of the ancient cyclops empire. Though some of thier territorial claims are a bit shaky. There are hundreds of smaller regions in the Republic that claim a phodo-sovereignty, having their own distinct cultures and ideals. (More like a European Union situation rather than a United States situation, a mix of both honestly)

Iris is home to mostly sayters centaurs and cyclops. It’s known for its wetlands and many ancient stone monuments. It’s also a bread basket for agriculture, but experiences quite severe periodical droughts and floods.

Elvfime, essentially like Vikings. Spent large parts of their year inland and farming, but also sailed as traders and raiders all along the valor sword coast, green clover old shire, elven run and even into Lemuna, some of the earliest settlers of the continent where peoples from elvfime about 200 years before the continent was properly colonized. Mostly trolls,elves and goblins.

Astrolia is a large and old nation mainly housing elves, vampires, imps, werewolves and sayters. It is home to many cultural and natural wonders. Such as the misty mountains, the tengu forest , the twin dragon rivers, the golden arch rocks. The infamous bridge of light (a bridge that can only be seen in full moonlight). The canal city of the city of night that hosts the night palace and the festival of red lanterns. It has also had many vampire warlords in the past. They grow a lot of rice. They are a mighty nation that has split apart and reformed many times. Originally United to prevent the spread of the cyclops empire In thier territory. They where successful and where

(Is having a vaguely ancient Chinese inspired land potential a bit orientalist, probably yha. Am I still going to include it to have a larger sense of culture outside of American, yes. I’m going to unpack this and learn from this, but an Onward fan world-building is not the place to do that. Just know that it comes from a place of wanting people to have an opportunity to see something like them in a pice of fan work. I also trust people to better handle the vast diversity that is ancient China than I trust others to handle one of my own regular inspirations. Is this lampshadeing? Absolutely)

Strix

A continent of whimsy and danger. It has a historical reputation of being rather pastoral. Often getting conquered by one group or another

Posidious is the nation that was once territory of the cyclops empire. Having lots of cyclops and sayters, but also houses the largest population of Capricorns and selkies.

The old shire is a nation who’s majority of population is gnomes and goblins, It’s green and lush and known for many castle ruins.

Lemuna

The continent the film takes place on! Isolated from the other continent for a long time. It was colonized about 700 years ago. It’s had a turbulent history. After colonization it at the tail end of the magic dark ages. Then it flourished during the age of guilds and finally the age of yore before hurtling itself into the modern age quicker than any other continent, progress at the price of anything else.

Home to the realms. Which where once a United country but fell apart in a civil war over the use of certain magics and ideological differences. Though remanente of these old ideologies still linger most of the bite has been forgotten with the obsoleteness of magic over the centuries.

West realm is known to be a breadbasket

The United realm is a spiritual successor of the old country that split into the west, East North and south realms. It’s a republic that United five smaller nations through a series of wars and coups. It’s flag has a fived rayed sun with each ray representing one of the old nations.

Also home to the eternal city. A massive complex that what’s there prior to the main colonization of the continent. It’s complex and maze like. Having been built out from its core which is said to be a fallen star like those of the star sea. Much of the city is said to have been built by extinct giants. Though much of the under city was built by gnomes and pixies. Other proposed builders are the Minotaurs due to the maze like structure. As the saying goes “anything can be found here if you look hard enough” the saying is true enough.

New mushroom. Home to our protagonists. A kingdom split between several of the realms. The giant beanstalks that grow here was a gift from a wizard and feeds large parts of the world.

And that’s it, that’s all I’m saying for now. I still have a lot of work to do with uploading what I have done for the different groups of people in the setting. It’s umm…. Something, interesting perhaps, but definitely something.

But this is what I get when I lazily slap things together, I do hope I have achieved my goal of giving onward a larger sense of scale, culture and a bit more history. I’ll work more on the culture of each individual group of people as I get to them (if I get to them if I have time)

All this is relatively ancient history from the time of yore and before.

All of this is of course free too use and be tweaked by anyone who wants to use it for thier own fanfic or fanart or heck even original work is so compelled. I only ask that you please thank me (herd Dragon) for the inspiration/ world building.

QUEENS FANCLAN LORE: RIVONYK (RIVER NA'VI)

Rivonyk 

Origin:

 Great storms had attacked the vast oceans and the Rivonyk ancestors the Ivonara were slammed around by the storm's rage slammed and pulled under angry waves losing their final breath others swirled and whirlpools gasping out their last air bubbles the ones who had survived the raging waters were thrown from the sea in onto land their tears grew and pulled at their feet the lost of loved ones and being unwelcome to the only home they knew cause great grief amongst them and they solved for many days great Eva used their tears to form new waters ones that would always be safe for them and this forms the rivers of Pandora Where the rivonyk grew to thrive forming new pods and schools.

Physical traits

Skin starts turning to mossy greens with bright wavy markings with yellow or red markings around the eyes(Like yellow & red ear sliders)

 Illuminous at markings start to form into spots (Like spotted trout)

 Noses start to unflatten and slightly still have narrow nostrils.

 Ear fins now being a small singular ear with small fins outlining them.

 Arm and leg fins growing smaller while hands still have webbing fingers and longer nails (Like snapping turtles)

 Their 2 tails have fused into one thick tail with a small fin at the tip.

 Chest starts to narrow why the body grows more muscular and lean.

 Eyes are a variant either being reflective with slit pupils or round pupils they can be different colors such as bright oranges greens in yellows.

  Their dual queues have formed into one growing to be long and narrow.

 Still has small sensor bumps on the chin and upper lips.

Has a long and thick red tongue that umbres to pink in the mouth, the tip of the tongue being bright red.

Clan structure:

 Still forms and pods but now more lenient with reproducing mates all members may have one child the leading couple can have many multiple pods may join being a school this is normally 2 or 3 pods that join together With the eldest leading pair being the leaders of the school.

Monarch & Matriarch- Both are the eldest of the pod/school.  Both lead the pods/schools up in down river roots avoiding Rapids and stagmit swamps both share the Olo'eyktan and Tsahík roles keeping pods/school safe telling tales of their ancestors and dedicating rituals to Eywa.

Hunters-  Members that go out of the rivers onto land to hunt small animals close to the river banks and bays.

Fishers-  Members that stay in the reverse moving ahead or behind the pod/school and gathering fish to feed all in the pod/school.

Tinkers-  They are responsible to make nets,  weapons, baskets, woven bags/pouches in any resource the pod/school needs to be made.

Brooders-  Or members that watch and care for all the children in the pod/school keeping them safe fed in teaching them the ways of the pod/school they deem what role in the community each child would be best suited for and will find mentors for the child when they are old enough to contribute to their pod/school.

Gatherers-  Members who can go out of the rivers or stay in the rivers to find resources such as bones, plants shells and branches feathers that may help the tinkers provide for the pod/school.

Mating Rituals:

 There are various ways to secure and mate within the Rivonyk.

 Being the eldest child of a pod's monarch and matriarch who wishes to join another pod to form a school.  The 2 eldest children between both pod leaders may be arranged to be each other's mate solidifying the bonds of the school.

- Courtship with various gifts from the quarter to the quarter if the quarter fully accepts the quarter then they both were locked hands includes swim to a deep part of the river and stay down until they black out from lack of air supply trusted observers would pull them out and if their hands are still intertwined they are mates and they mate under Eywa.

 If they are not or if one abandons the other the pairing are not mates and the abandoner will be slashed across the face by the band marking them as untrustworthy of those hearts and life and left undesirable among the Rivonyk people and unlikely to find a Rivonyk mate.

- Ritual Tsengkem- Doing a bone ritual as this is a success the first time success that the two are destined mates and they will immediately be allowed to mate such a ritual may only be done twice among Individuals and no more as it's deemed disrespectful to Eywa 

Beauty standards:

While the Rivonyk are open minded and do not judge beauty on physical attraction there are some things that indicate a healthy mate and are conceived as beautiful attributes to one's nature.

The yellow or red markings around their eyes being bright and full of color as well as the brightness of their iris, as sick Rivonyk will have dull or muddy looking eye markings that would make the eye whites look more grey and yellow indicating sickness.

Their tongues are a bright red, showing that they are not sick and are very healthy. Sick Rivonyk  will have pale pink tongues showing sickness and frailty. 

Rituals & Celebrations:

Fayluta Aungia- “Offering baskets”  Is a flood sacrificed where they will twice a season would gather as much food and valuables and to large woven baskets that would float on top of the river's currents everyone in the pod/school is required except underlings to add something into the baskets and they would have a grand celebration as they send the baskets down the river to the ocean  To appease the raging sea so that it will not have a storm to be so harsh that it would devour the lands and rivers. They do this to prevent losing another home.

Ritual Tsengkem-  If two wanted to be mates but question or had doubts of their compatibility then both may find Bones of an animal that reminded them of their partner and take them to the monarch or matriarch who will carve cantations into the Bones before biting them Together and tossing them into calm waters of The River is both Bones sink Then their mate ship would not be well as one would drag The Other Down into the depth of The River and both would Drown in sorrows and unhappiness.

      

      if the bones float it would mean that their makeship will be  Proper us and both will be fulfilled and happy they both will be each other's raft keeping each other afloat where they will breathe and the precious love between them these bones will later be carved into jewelry to signify their were meant to be destined mates.

     If the bones Bob up and down as in war to float or sink it would mean that they are not ready for such a big step. Both should continue to learn about each other and themselves so that in the end they will not drown and resentment for each other.

Rolkxu Awnga- “Rage cleanses.”  If one spirit is tempered with sudden unknown rage bitterest or hatred then they must be cleansed from  Evil spirits formed from the river of tears lost souls of their ancestors who are confused and angry at the lost of loved ones and their once beloved home the monarch  In matriarch we'll Bind herbs carve stones and bones to the irritable ones arms and legs and tail covering their face with a mask made of feathers and fishbones the air 21 is then laid in the water floating on their backs as all the older school/pod members around them and chant sacred spells to unbind the angry latched on spirit from their pod member appeasing the lost spirit to feel the aura of a family and community wants more to find peace to Go to Eywa’s Arms leaving their tortured member Alone and not to fill the rivers with any Memory of the raging Oceans waters and storms.

Animals:

These animals were animals that the Rivonyk would hunt or presence was noted when traveling certain rivers.

River-aquatic:

Faytsapmaw “Brightscale Prowler”: A sleek, bioluminescent fish with long, slender fins that glows in various colors to communicate and attract mates. It has sharp teeth and hunts smaller aquatic creatures.

Tsawluyäp “Rippleback Eel”: A large, serpentine creature with a smooth, iridescent body that undulates to create ripples in the water. It can generate electric shocks to stun prey and defend itself from predators.

.  Pamtsewan “Bellowing Riverbeast” : A bulky, semi-aquatic mammal with powerful limbs for swimming and digging burrows along riverbanks. It has a loud, resonant call that echoes through the river valleys.

. Pxaflor “Spotted River Dart”: A small, agile amphibian with webbed limbs and a tail fin. It is known for its rapid movements and ability to leap out of the water to catch flying insects. Its skin has colorful spots that warn predators of its toxicity.

 tamunharp “Armored Mud Stalker” - A crustacean-like creature with a tough exoskeleton and pincers for digging through riverbeds. It uses its keen sense of smell to locate food, often scavenging for plant matter and small aquatic organisms.

River Land: 

 Tawmir “Gleaming Stalker”: A large, feline-like predator with sleek, water-repellent fur that shimmers in the sunlight. It hunts near the riverbanks, using its keen eyesight and stealth to ambush prey.

 Ngimuiä “River Leaper”: A small, agile mammal similar to a lemur, with webbed hands and feet for swimming and long legs for leaping from tree to tree along the river's edge. It feeds on fruits, insects, and small fish.

Yätxark “Mud-Burrower”: A robust, armadillo-like creature with a thick, segmented shell that it uses to dig extensive burrows near riverbanks. It feeds on roots, insects, and small aquatic animals.

 Lapayä “Glimmer Lizard”: A bioluminescent reptile with a long tail and agile limbs, capable of both swimming and climbing. It has a shimmering, scale-covered body that glows in the dark, aiding in communication and attracting mates.

Kangong “River Grazing Beast”: A large, herbivorous mammal resembling a cross between a bison and a hippopotamus. It has a sturdy build, with short, thick fur and a broad mouth for grazing on riverbank vegetation and aquatic plants.

Mount animal:

Ay'kuma. “River Strider'': 

The Ay'kuma is a large, semi-aquatic reptilian creature resembling a fusion between a giant salamander and a dragonfly nymph. It has a long, sleek body covered in smooth, water-repellent scales that shift in shades of green and blue, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the river environment. Its powerful, webbed limbs and a strong, finned tail enable it to swim swiftly and navigate both calm and turbulent waters with ease.

Physical Traits:

Size:Around 6-8 meters in length, capable of carrying multiple riders.

 Eyes: Large, multi-faceted eyes adapted for underwater vision and spotting prey from a distance.

Mouth:A broad, flat snout lined with small, sharp teeth, ideal for catching fish and other aquatic creatures.

Fins and Limbs: Webbed, muscular limbs and a finned tail provide excellent propulsion and maneuverability in the water.

Behavior and Abilities:

Speed and Agility:The Ay'kuma is known for its impressive speed and agility in the water, making it a reliable and swift mount for the River Na'vi.

Bonding: It forms a deep bond with its rider through Tsaheylu, responding to subtle commands and movements.

 Amphibious Nature: While primarily aquatic, the Ay'kuma can also move on land, though less gracefully, making it versatile for riverbank travel.

 Communication: It communicates with a series of low-frequency hums and clicks, allowing for coordination with its rider and other Ay'kuma.

The Ay'kuma is a revered companion among the River Na'vi, symbolizing harmony and unity with the river's life force.

Plants; 

Important plants that Rivonyk would use. 

. Txepina “Glowroot”:

   - A bioluminescent aquatic plant with long, trailing roots that emit a soft blue-green glow. It grows in clusters along riverbanks and shallow waters.

   - Uses: The Glowroot is harvested for its luminescent properties, used to light homes and pathways. Its roots are also used in traditional medicine for their calming effects when brewed into teas.

 Pìwopxì “River Reed” :

   -Tall, slender reeds with hollow stems that grow along the riverbanks. They have flexible, green leaves that sway with the current.

  Uses: The River Reed is essential for crafting baskets, mats, and other woven goods. Its stems can be used to make flutes and other musical instruments. The leaves are also used for thatching roofs.

.  Sangmok “Waterfruit Vine”:

A robust, climbing vine with large, heart-shaped leaves and clusters of vibrant, berry-like fruits that grow near the water's edge.

Uses: The fruits are a staple in the River Na'vi diet, providing a rich source of nutrients. The vine itself is used for making ropes and bindings, while the leaves are sometimes used in cooking or as natural wraps.

 Rìkxa “Medicinal Fern”:

  A fern with broad, feathery fronds that thrive in the moist soil near rivers. Its fronds have a distinct, dark green color with lighter veins.

Uses: The Medicinal Fern is highly valued for its healing properties. Its fronds are used to create poultices and salves for treating wounds and skin conditions. The fern is also used in rituals and ceremonies.

Tskxe-siu “Stone Flower”:

A hardy, flowering plant that grows on rocky riverbanks. It has thick, succulent leaves and produces vibrant, star-shaped flowers in shades of blue and purple.

 Uses: The Stone Flower is admired for its beauty and is often used in decorative arrangements. Its leaves store water, making them useful in drought conditions. The plant also has minor medicinal uses, with its sap being used to soothe burns and insect bites.

Regardless of how one might feel about Fukushima's NPP wastewater being released, the event raises more questions than answers. Bottom trawling in the prefecture is scheduled to resume in September, so what happens when we have no more seafood?

It's an environmentally devastating fishing practice in which a trawl net is dragged across the seafloor. This can destroy coral communities and accidentally capture turtles and marine mammals.

WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT FUKUSHIMA'S NUCLEAR WASTEWATER?

On August 24th 2023, the Japanese Government moved forward in releasing treated wastewater from the reactors in efforts to decommission the plant. This was also cleared by the UN's nuclear watchdog.

HOW DO I SHOP SUSTAINABLY?

Find out where your seafood comes from and how it was caught. Buying seafood from certain regions with certain methods is how you show your support for said practices. Seafood Watch is one resource by the Monterrey Bay Aquarium.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I'm not an expert. I'm not even pro-nuclear to begin with because when the disasters happen, it's highly destructive, dangerous and can take decades to recover from. Experts may have signed off on this release, but now is a good time to talk about what else goes on in the ocean.

I can't give you every little piece of information, but I hope the above gives a starting point to kickstart some other questions you might want to look up.

A New Name to Call a Friend

A/N: In which Tae the IRIS guard accidentally overhears P's real name. Featuring P's nans, also, because I love them.

P knew he shouldn’t take his hearing aids off at work, but he couldn’t help it. Despite being in a quiet surveillance room most of the day (save for the buzzing of some of the equipment), sometimes he just needed a break.

It would go outside to do this, usually, but it was raining. P liked the rain, but it had planned a lunchtime video call with its nans, and, okay, maybe eating outside, even in the rain, was fine sometimes, but having his phone out where it could get wet? No, that was no good.

As for the hearing aids, he always chose to take those out for his nans’ calls because, well, one of them was deaf and so was he, and the powers that be knew he needed practice with communicating in Sign Language, as he was still learning, so…

Here it was. In the break room, in an inconspicuous corner where they wouldn’t question the equipment, eating some leftovers its nans left for him on the doorstep the night before. Its phone was sitting against its water bottle and it was speaking with Constantine between bites of chicken. They were telling it all about what their pet turtles had been up to in the same sign P was giving back, whilst Marlys did the dishes somewhere behind them, from what P could see.

Marlys was humming to herself, P had heard it just before he took his hearing aids off. Then, suddenly, she was done, turning toward the camera. She spotted P, and not a moment before Marlys spoke, the break room door opened up in front of him.

It hadn’t turned the volume down, the muffled creaking of the door combining with Marlys calling its name on full blast reaching his better ear, even without the aid. “Paulie!”

“Marlys, no-“

“Oh, did someone just walk in? Is that one of your work friends? Hello, Paulie’s friend!”

Tae looked up from her own phone, confusedly waving back. She watched as P finished the call in a wave of rushed sign language and began to collect its things, fixing the back of its shirt collar like a safety net.

He put his phone in his pocket, a light blush dusting his cheeks as he tried to walk straight past his colleague and friend, but Tae stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.

"Is everything okay, P? Come, sit back down and finish your lunch." Her voice was so gentle but firm, and clear... somehow. Her eyebrows were drawn in a constant state of confusion at her friend's actions. "What's the matter? Did I do something wrong?"

P looked at the hand on his shoulder, avoiding Tae's eyes and focusing more on trying to keep up with what she was saying. "You're not... making fun of my name?" He took a breath in and held it, waiting for the impact of betrayal.

Tae's mind quickly went back through the conversation she'd just barely overheard. She hadn't even realised that was what she'd walked in on. "Was that what that lady said?"

P breathed a sigh of relief, then thought it over for a second, chuckling. "Y-yeah. She forgets to call me by my nickname, so to her, I'm just 'Paulie'."

"Paulie..." Tae said quietly, then a bit louder. "It's nice, I like it."

"Oh... thank you. That's a... new reaction for me. But thank you."

The different family cultures of each iteration of turtles, using the example of how conflict is navigated

In 1987 when one of them is upset they will first have some type of small verbal outburst and then close themselves in their room. Then Master Splinter will say something like, “I believe this was very serious to him. You may have hurt his feelings.” Which is a very soft reprimand and also pretty redundant because this is a script they’re all familiar with. The offended turtle made an angry defensive statement and then shut the door. They all know this song and dance. But Master Splinter’s prompt is part of it because they all like routine (look at every single character with their “as Michelangelo would say, Cowabunga,” sometimes with Michelangelo standing right there, they love each other’s voices they love echoing each other they love predictability and familiarity). It’s like when I prompt my third graders to say sorry or excuse me or thank you; they know it’s coming, and when I’m not listening they do it on their own, but if they know I’m there they like to wait for prompt because it’s been established as a routine to help them learn social norms and it’s comforting to remember they can still have help (just have to be careful not to give too much help and end up making them feel judged and nagged) (am I saying that this happens with Splinter? Well I’m not not saying it). Anyway this is fitting and heartwarming because the 87 turtles mutated from toddlers into teens. They never got to be third graders and their family culture has developed in a way that allows them their dignity while also giving them as much structure and guidance and forgiving safety net as possible.

In 2012 when feelings get hurt it’s all very out in the open. Donnie insults Mikey’s intelligence? Mikey tackles him from behind. Leo is annoyed with Raph? Open criticism none secret. Donnie doesn’t like Leo pressuring him? He’s gonna scream about it might even throw something. And in the flip side, there’s Raph lifting Leo into a hug to show his gratitude for being accepted. There’s Donnie beaming at Mikey when he beats the electrocution game telling him how awesome he is. They’re very open with their feelings, like extremely so very open. Visiting their house would be just sensory overload. Like we all had those cousins right? There’s always peanut butter on the wall and screaming in the other room and the toilet seat is left up. It’s warm and comfortable but also really chaotic and almost disturbing. That’s the 2012 turtles. And this also makes a lot of sense considering they were the most completely isolated for fifteen years.

The 2003 turtles are very sensitive. Idk how else to phrase it. They’re very in tune with each other, and just like with the 2012 turtles this means they’re there for each other, and also that they hurt each other. But quite unlike 2012, they’re very… not reserved exactly. Not formal, either. There’s a lot of warmth but it’s very quiet. If 03 visited 12 (especially Donnie because I think that’s the starkest difference) they’d be shocked. It would feel rude to them. They definitely get angry but they’re very gentle with each other. They can hear the emotions loud and clear, but to someone who isn’t familiar with them the way they are with each other it can look like they aren’t communicating at all. They act the most their age when they’re only with each other, and much more grownup when outsiders are around (seeing them relax around April and Casey gets to me every time). This tracks because Master Splinter has never been human and started out with no idea how mutation would work. He needed them to grow up fast, superficially if necessary, because he didn’t know how long he’d be able to take care of them. And once that’s done you can’t just undo it.

With Rise when someone’s mad there’s a lot of yelling and name-calling. Donnie uses dum-dum, Raph and Leo both use jerk. Mikey purposely bottles it all up so he can be Dr Delicate Touch, which is terrifying honestly. If the name-calling cuts too deep or an issue is more serious to one guy than the other guys, they’re all about big elaborate gestures. Lots of big gestures for expressing positive emotions, too. When Donnie’s robot hurts his brothers feelings they reprogram him to bully his creator (they obviously didn’t mean for it to be as dangerous as it was but even so their plan was quite. Excessive). When they accidentally flush Piebald they end up dealing with an entire revenge plot from her and Master Splinter himself. They have a big old snowball fight over which Jupiter Jim movie they like best. Whether they’re expressing hurt or just saying I love you, it’s all about ✨ pizazz ✨. Which. You know. They were raised by Lou Jitsu who is all about pizazz, but not only that, they had to use big gestures to get his attention.

It’s interesting to think about how these differences would affect how they are with each other. 1987’s rituals would throw off most of the other turtles, I think the rise boys would love it though. 2003 turtles are positively chaotic but in a multiversal group they’d never get blamed for stuff because they seem polite.

Writing this here seems like a better idea then hammering it out in my physical journal since this is where our friendship began.

Preparing to age myself heavily as I pour my thoughts out into the tumblr void. Thinking about how online culture helped shape me, helped me find friends and connect with the various fringe subcultures littered around the country. What started as a way to pass time in a telco job with unlimited access to the net and a barely basic understanding I started this Tumblr roughly 12 years ago and Acky aka @evilutione5150 was one of my first friends. 

He joked with me about music, art, 80s t.v or movies and never missed a pun or 10 deep simpsons quote. He was kind and abrupt and not once did he slide into my DMS looking for an ass pic. 

For a girl on tumblr into heavy metal facing the brunt of aggression from men for ‘doing it for attention’ combined with the misstep of using the hashtag #metalchick to try and find other girls into metal and finding only hate, he was a breath of fresh air. No hate, no pick up lines or sleeze. We just chatted like we were stood next to each other at a show. 

The first time he posted about one of my fave local and best mates band I instantly reblogged it, excited, they were going to absolutely kill it and they were making people happy and here was the proof, in Ackys words, they did it! He enthusiastically chatted with me about them and would tell me about their shows from across the country. 

He was not shy with coming forward about what he did and did not like but more then anything he was inclusive and passionate. Seems like everyone is striving to be exclusive these days, which is wonderful, but he didnt need to learn that, or be shown, he didnt need to be shamed or bullied into it, it was just a small part of the foundation of Acky. 

His passion saw him front of the gig, supporting the scene with promos, podcasts, designing shirts and sharing information on pretty much every platform, and for free. 

He did so much, just this one guy and now he is just gone?

His shirt designs are still in my top 3 rotations and I have taken my ‘ big sunglasses, very important’  shirt on every trip I have been on and it has been the best conversational piece. His humor translated well through his art and shirt designs. The dry blunt Aussie humor mixed with heavy metal references have lead to me meeting so many new people and each time I would let him know....dude....people LOVE your shirts! 

so whats a t shirt? whats the big deal and how does this make him inclusive?

Ackys humor made me feel seen and made me feel like I had somewhere when for most of my life I have been a nomad. He created a way for people to talk to me, to point at my shirt, laugh and strike a convo and some of those interactions have turned into life long friendships. 

I'm sure now there are plenty of fifth element or robocop album cover mash ups but at the time he was doing something really cool for so many people involved in fandoms that spanned so far. I chat to so many people about wrestling, or troma films or sci-fi and retro gaming because of Acky. His humour just translated well enough and was not at the expense of others (unless you were a politician) nor was it just a cash grab because pizza+ninja turtles+slayer=profit. He just threw his passions and artistry together and ran with whatever came out which in turn created a wicked community around him. 

We initially bonded over BLS, we had the same necklace charm with the logo on a dinky ball chain straight from the 2010s and would discuss at length what shows we would go to, albums we liked, new projects Zakk worked on and he would share his own musical talent which he had a lot of. He spoke kindly of his son and quite frequently would sacrifice his time or skip shows he had been talking about and dreaming about to spend time with him and not once did he complain about the trade off. 

I truly think that over the years he has been my biggest supporter in whatever I do. My strongest confident and kindest advocate. We shared our rough times and he would recommend songs or thow me a meme to let me know he understood. 

Now as his name slips down my message inbox, and as I post, his notification isn't the first to pop up anymore I feel a new kind of lonely. 

Its a kind of lonely I haven't felt since we met from a feeling that goes deeper then a romance or a family bond. He made a community and he let me in.

I hope I made him feel less lonely and I hope I could be there for him the way he was for me. I hope he knew he was loved and that his art and the community he built will live on in some way. I hope his spot at shows is filled and someone else is there to reach out to let others know they have somewhere to belong, if not in person then just online.

He went through a lifetime of pain and discomfort so the idea he is relaxing with his guitar, or cracking his fingers to write out another review or chuckling to himself as he edits his face into another metallica meme is a nice one. 

But most of all I hope he found some happiness or comfort in the really wonderful way he impacted those that had the pleasure to know him.

As time unravels and my tears settle, I will have more to say and share but for now Im posting this knowing he wont ever see it, when after so many years on here, he was one of the only people I kept this blog alive for, for so long.

STRAGGLER

George and Ophelia successfully got the sea turtle hatchlings past the gulls and crabs hoping for a free meal, and finally got them over the drift net floating near the beach. If this was a test of their abilities to become full members of the turtle community, they passed with flying colors. (Side note; Ophelia has done much more study of what’s expected of them. George has a lot of catching up to do.)

That may happen quickly since one hatchling keeps getting disoriented by the lights of the beachfront motel, causing the little one to head back to their room instead of toward the ocean. That’s actually a phenomena that occurs regularly due to light pollution and is yet another threat to the species.

The honeymooning couple has the first real challenge of their marriage, sooner than they expected. Knowing the two of them, they’ll be resourceful. They always have been in the past.

short or long rant ahead with probably bad grammar sorry 😭

so like im a lesbian, and my two friends irl know, but most of the kids at my school are quite strongly against it because its a catholic school and where i live a lot of people hate it

but anyways i have these two current friends and dont get me wrong they are really good friends, but they dont accept the lgbtq+ community. they just accept me because im their friend which makes me "different" (apparently?)

but at the same time they still make homophobic remarks around me and while i dont really mind, it still makes me think "if you knew i was lesbian when you met me, would you still like me?"

plus, im masking pretty much 100% of the time at home and at school, so im always ignoring overstimulation to a point where i have panic attacks so bad to the point where i throw up, my friends are the only ones who know about my sexuality and the only irl friend i have that i can unmask around moved 5 hours away at the start of this year so

it wouldnt bother me so much but i know for a fact that if i said "can you not make that joke it makes me upset" i would just get told that im not special because im gay and i know that- but its almost like im the third wheeler all of the time and its always because im either too quiet, too nice or simply "the gay one"

and im also the therapist friend all of the time, even one of my friends has nicknamed me their emotional support animal lmfao 😭

it just feels weird that the only people who i will ever come first to or not seem "different" to will be online because dont get me wrong i have an amazing online sister who i can kind of be myself around but im her therapist too and there is literally no room for me and whats going on in my life

I'm so sorry you have to go through this and that you are surrounded by such homophobia. It's unfortunate that there are people that are still so unaccepting, but if it helps I can understand where you're coming from.

Having 4 brothers I have to keep a secret from the world is difficult sometimes. It was especially difficult when I was still living with my folks since I still need to tell them about the guys. They know I have 4 homeschooled friends that I love like brothers but they never met them (I still need to figure out how to set up that meeting at some point). And normally Raph takes care of the others but he doesn't have someone to take care of him so I normally do it (and since I hang out with Donnie a lot I'm usually more readily available to help him). But that's all just a long way of saying I understand where you are coming from, it can be hard, just don't forget that you matter too.

It's ok to feel the way you do and it's ok to be a little selfish sometimes, its all a part of living. But never forget that what you need and want matters. Otherwise, how else can you expect to help others if you are a mess of emotions yourself?
