NO ONE UNDERSTANDS HOW MUCH I AM LAUGHING RIGHT NOW.
This?
This is the Turnagin Arm in Alaska.
He TURNED AGAIN
and WOUND UP
IN THE TURNAGAIN. If the Radio stations, specifically 106.5 have not been roasting him....there is no hope left and we should all give up.
Scary Fact: Also there is a good...sized easement between the highway and the railway, and then another large easement between the railway and the fucking ocean he's in, so he had to be going fairly quick to yeet himself that far. And while most people will drive the roads in Alaska like morons, that section of the road is well known to be dangerous and no one sane actually speeds due to not being able to see who is coming around the bend that's just ahead of you. Bendy Bendy Seward highway will and can kill you. Please expect delays of 3 hours to 3 days due to the amount of accidents, and needing to clear the road. Plan accordingly.
Fun Fact: There's a story that Captain Cook (yes that Captain Cook) named it in frustration the Turnagain due to them having to Turn-Again until they got the hell out of dodge and left the area.

Best Candles For Summer 2023 & 60 Years Of Diptyque Candles
Candles are not just for Christmas. In fact, they can be extremely soothing during the warmer months, helping to push off the lid of mugginess that can sometimes reduce the cheerful impact of any sunshine that may be around. I presented a few summer candle selections in a recent episode of Love At First Scent, from Boys Smells, the new British brand Fine Scents, as well as perennial favourite,…

British Columbia isn't allowing any new jade mines to open in the northwest, and has set a five-year wind-down period for existing operations.
A statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mines says officials have been working closely with First Nations to address concerns about the effects of jade mining on sensitive alpine environments in the area near Dease Lake, about 1,750 kilometres northwest of Vancouver.
An order under the Environment and Land Use Act was necessary to protect the area from further harm and disturbance, it said.
Mining activities on new tenures must stop immediately, while existing tenure holders may continue operating for five years with "enhanced regulatory requirements," allowing them "adequate time to wind down." [...]

Alaska (No. 4)
The state is bordered by Canada's Yukon and British Columbia to the east (making it the only state to only border a Canadian territory); the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean to the south and southwest; the Bering Sea, Bering Strait, and Chukchi Sea to the west; and the Arctic Ocean to the north. Alaska's territorial waters touch Russia's territorial waters in the Bering Strait, as the Russian Big Diomede Island and Alaskan Little Diomede Island are only 3 miles (4.8 km) apart. Alaska has a longer coastline than all the other U.S. states combined. Alaska's size compared with the 48 contiguous states (Albers equal-area conic projection)
At 663,268 square miles (1,717,856 km2) in total area, Alaska is by far the largest state in the United States. Alaska is more than twice the size of the second-largest U.S. state (Texas), and it is larger than the next three largest states (Texas, California, and Montana) combined. Alaska is the seventh largest subnational division in the world. If it was an independent nation, it would be the 18th largest country in the world; almost the same size as Iran.
With its myriad of islands, Alaska has nearly 34,000 miles (55,000 km) of tidal shoreline. The Aleutian Islands chain extends west from the southern tip of the Alaska Peninsula. Many active volcanoes are found in the Aleutians and in coastal regions. Unimak Island, for example, is home to Mount Shishaldin, which is an occasionally smoldering volcano that rises to 10,000 feet (3,000 m) above the North Pacific. The chain of volcanoes extends to Mount Spurr, west of Anchorage on the mainland. Geologists have identified Alaska as part of Wrangellia, a large region consisting of multiple states and Canadian provinces in the Pacific Northwest, which is actively undergoing continent building.
One of the world's largest tides occurs in Turnagain Arm, just south of Anchorage, where tidal differences can be more than 35 feet (10.7 m).
Alaska has more than 409,000 natural lakes at least one hectare or bigger. Marshlands and wetland permafrost cover 188,320 square miles (487,700 km2) (mostly in northern, western and southwest flatlands). Glacier ice covers about 28,957 square miles (75,000 km2) of Alaska. The Bering Glacier is the largest glacier in North America, covering 2,008 square miles (5,200 km2) alone.

A few more off the train.
I still can't believe how lucky we got with the weather on that day. Turnagain and the surrounding area almost never cooperates like this.

On a beautiful late Spring evening in Alaska the Coastal Classic is Northbound on its return journey to Anchorage. The train is just a few miles north of Portage, to the right is the Seward Highway and Turnagain Arm, to the left are saltwater ponds left over from the great earthquake of 1964 and the backdrop is provided by the Chugach Mountains. Alaska: Experience of Solitude
-Turnagain Arm, Alaska, USA
Silence...Our ears, accustomed to shrill sounds in the daily hustle and bustle, need some time to perceive the gentle nuances that surround us in nature. Because the supposed silence has its own language: the gurgling of the water, (….) the quiet chirping of the birds. A constant crackling and cracking in the undergrowth. Animals that remain invisible.
Expanse….refreshing for the eye (…). In the light of nature, the view becomes sharper; no printed paper restricts it. The eye can wander uninhibitedly, trace the soft contours of the hills, delight in the play of colors, and can decide more consciously for itself when to open or close.
Solitude….a test of the mind. Cut off from all the distractions that increasingly make people of our time their slaves, lesser things in nature gain in importance. People have to be at peace with themselves and accept themselves and their surroundings in order not to despair.
-Jürgen Hampel, quote from an illustrated book about Alaska
