this is the second time someone has looked at my tumblr chat and thought it was grindr's chat.... i can't

So Farah (@farahmoo2) has been having trouble getting her funds transferred for the past week now. Her organizer Nassima sends her an acceptance transfer notice, which, after accepting it, is supposed to prompt a security code to be sent to Farah's phone.

The only problem is, no security code ends up being sent. This has caused a massive amount of stress for Farah and made her worried gofundme would deactivate her account. Her sister @/nesmamomen has been trying to help her out, but they are unable to identify the problem.

Transcript of the voice recording: "It seems that my conversion may be cancelled. I don't know. There's a lot of problems."

On top of this, Farah's family has been dealing with the upcoming winter, having to rebuild their tent after being flooded so it can better withstand the rain and cold. Her internet access is now so bad that she has also been unable to use tumblr for a while now, as that needs consistently good bars in order to load.

how to make a tumblr post (and get notes!)

Have never seen any post discuss these exact things, so i'm sharing my insights with y'all*

Use images. They don't have to be good or spectacular like this extremely coherent thing I just made. They just need to catch the eye break up dashboard monotony.

The gif search feature is an unreliable wild card at best and a NSFW eye gouge at worst, but it gives credit to the op of the gif

If you're an artist your whole post is your images, so skip to the links and tags section of this post because the rest won't help much.

-> Image Descriptions

When making a post that contains images, hover over an image and click the meatballs icon in the lower right corner of the image. Click "update description" to add a description. It isn't always necessary, but it is very courteous for a variety of accessibility reasons.

-> Text

Break up your text. Run-on sentences are standard here, lack of punctuation too, you can really do whatever you want, but avoid massive blocks of text. unless you've got a really incendiary opening line and the entire center of that granite chunk of text is actually comedy gold, hard-hitting tumblr journalism, or one of those zany confessional posts that can be followed up by the drive thru meme

your text.

and go light on the ALL CAPS. save it for emphasis or when you're feeling very unhinged or saRcAStiC y'know how that goes, i don't need to explain it. this site has a very dry tone to its posts so caps are rare. also periods

Bullet points and numbered posts are good and fine. The "Chat" post option is used less often these days, but different groups found uses for it so it sticks around.

Titles Matter

they help break up text and put people at ease. they are best for informative, mature posts but can make you look like a square in more relaxed conversations. sometimes they are also great for emphasis in a comedic sh*tpost (censorship is entirely up to you, btw. you don't have to censor much on tumblr except titties and genitals).

Tumblr automatically shortens long posts now, but etiquette asks that you tag #long post if you want to avoid clogging up someone's dash. It don't matter too much though, this is the "color of the sky" site, so get used to posts being too long

That being said "READ MORE" is a fantastic feature. Use it when you want some level of privacy like "hey, only click below if you want to hear about my problems" or "click below to read my 18+ fanfic." Read more is also great in case you want to delete something forever. If a reblogged post has a read more, but op deleted the og post, that content is gone (readmore has to be on the og post at time of posting for this to work, btw; edits to og post do not span all reblogs)

the other bells and whistles like colored font or italics are helpful in improving text, but we don't really rely on them. every mode of looking at this site alters those aspects somehow so we often ignore them

-> Links

Hint: People don't want to click links. We don't know where they're taking us. Most of us are on our phone and don't want to open another tab or leave the app to go on the browser. We're cozy here on Tumblr and do not wish to be whisked away (unless it's a rickroll)

Don't leave the link thumbnail to do all the work, like so

add a little sneak peak info, maybe your favorite line from the article or a reason why it's important for people to know the info on the other side of that link. Sell it!

When you're adding a link into a list, i.e. no large thumbnail just a line of text leading you to another site, try not to copy/paste the link as is

"https://......"

No one wants to click on that it's gross and scary. It's screams "meh, i'll click later if i feel like it." If the build up to the link is too good to resist ("if you want to save the orphaned puppies here's the link") then that http mess is sufficient.

Otherwise, dress your links up a little by including the title or a description of what the link goes to:

Or, if it's an informal post where you're just popping info in to back up whatever insane thing you just said, just write something like "link here" or "(x)" and hyperlink it.

-> Tags

artists, writers, and other creators: leave a tag on your creative content that makes it easy for blog visitors to see it all at once. e.g. "My work" and we click on that while on your blog and see only your works

You can have up to thirty tags on any post. All will make your post show up in searches and followed tags (it used to be only the first five tags that got you traction). However,

It's called tag spam and it's against TOS

Everyone here hates that

No one is going to check all those tags ever. Someone might search one five years from now and accidentally find your post hanging out in the ether and they'll still ignore it.

Your imagination is wicked tiny because I guarantee the perfect tag is going to be something indecipherable and seemingly niche.

Follow popular tags (or at least be aware of them)

If yours is an off-the-cuff post and you don't have time to find out what a niche group is into then wing it, sure, idc. this is also the shitposting site do whatever you want

Don't put your hate in the fan tags. This is the unapologetically-like-dumb-things site and your negativity is not wanted. You can still complain, just avoid tagging to get the attention of the fans of whatever you're complaining about. That enables pvp and even nonfans will know you deserve the backlash

-> Audio & Video

clickable by nature because we all love noise and moving images so there's no special way to share posts like this. just post them with good tags and maybe a one-liner, and they'll sell themselves

Tip: it's nice to add descriptions to these too but it isn't common

Protip: if the audio is the best part of the video (e.g. a baby burps REALLY loudly and it's hilarious) please caption or tag "Unmute!"

After a few years of handwringing and false starts, Google is abandoning plans to block third-party cookies in Chrome. Both Safari and Firefox already block them. 

When composing titles and text where other keywords are found, it can be useful to have a short checklist of the types of keywords you need, as this screenshot demonstrates. While that title is too long for most platforms and search engines, it covers really critical points that should get mentioned in the product description and keyword fields/tags as well:

The core keywords that describe the item

What the customer is looking to do - solve a problem? Find a gift? Feel better? 

What makes the product stand out in its field - why buy this instead of something else? Differentiating your items is something that should come before you get to the listing stage, so the keywords should already be in your head. 

Relevant keywords that will be used in long tail searches are always great add-ons.

What if anything about your item is trendy now? E.g., sustainability? Particular colours, styles or materials/ingredients are always important.  

SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES 

Google’s June spam update has finished rolling out. And here is the full list of Google news from June. 

Expect a new Google core update “in the coming weeks” (as if we needed more Google excitement).

Google’s AI overviews continue to dwindle at the top of search results, now only appearing in 7% of searches.

Despite Google trying to target AI spam, many poorly-copied articles still outrank the originals in Google search results. 

Internal links are important for Google SEO. While this article covers blogging in particular, most of the tips apply to any standalone website. Google also recently did a video [YouTube] on the same topic. 

Google had a really excellent second quarter, mostly due to the cloud and AI. 

Not Google

OpenAI is testing SearchGPT with a small number of subscribers. Alphabet shares dropped 3% after the announcement. 

SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site

General

New social media alert: noplace is a new app billed as MySpace for Gen Z that also has some similarities with Twitter (e.g., text-based chats, with no photos or videos at this time). iOS only at the moment; no Android app or web page.

Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta)

Meta’s attempt at circumventing EU privacy regulations through paid subscriptions is illegal under the Digital Markets Act, according to the European Commission. “if the company cannot reach an agreement with regulators before March 2025, the Commission has the power to levy fines of up to 10 percent of the company’s global turnover.”

If you post Reels from a business page, you may be able to let Meta use AI to do A/B testing on the captions and other portions shown. I personally would not do this unless I could see what options they were choosing, since AI is often not as good as it thinks it is. 

Apple’s 30% fee on in-app ad purchases for Facebook and Instagram has kicked in worldwide as of July 1. 

Facebook is testing ads in the Notifications list on the app. 

Meta is encouraging advertisers to connect their Google Analytics accounts to Meta Ads, claiming “integration could improve campaign performance, citing a 22% conversion increase.”

Instagram

The head of Instagram is still emphasizing that the number of DM shares per post is a huge ranking factor. 

LinkedIn

You can now advertise your LinkedIn newsletters on the platform. 

Pinterest

Pinterest is slowly testing an AI program that edits the background of product photography without changing the product. 

Is Pinterest dying? An investment research firm thinks so. 

Reddit

If you want to see results from Reddit in your search engine results, Google is the only place that can happen now. 

More than ever, Reddit is being touted as a way to be found (especially in Google search), but you do have to understand how the site works to be successful at it. 

Snapchat

Snapchat+ now has 9 million paying users, and they are getting quite a few new personalization updates, and Snaps that last 50 seconds or less. 

Threads

Threads has hit 175 million active users each month, up from 130 million in February. 

TikTok

TikTok has made it easier to reuse your videos outside of the site without a watermark. 

TikTok users can now select a custom thumbnail image for videos, either a frame from the clip itself, or a still image from elsewhere.  

Twitter

You can opt out of Twitter using your posts as data for its AI, Grok. 

YouTube

YouTube has new tools for Shorts, including one that makes your longer videos into Shorts. 

Community Spaces are the latest YouTube test to try to get more fan involvement, while moving users away from video comments.

(CONTENT) MARKETING (includes blogging, emails, and strategies) 

Start your content marketing plans for August now, including back-to-school themes and Alfred Hitchcock’s birthday on August 13. 

ONLINE ADVERTISING (EXCEPT INDIVIDUAL SOCIAL MEDIA AND ECOMMERCE SITES) 

Google Ads now have several new updates, including blocking misspellings. 

Google’s new Merchant Center Next will soon be available for all users, if they haven’t already been invited. Supplemental feeds are now (or soon will be) allowed there. 

STATS, DATA, TRACKING 

Google Search Console users can now add their shipping and return info to Google search through the Console itself. This is useful for sites that do not pay for Google Ads or use Google’s free shopping ads. 

BUSINESS & CONSUMER TRENDS, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE 

The second part of this Whiteboard Friday [video with transcript] discusses how consumer behaviour is changing during tight economic times. “People are still spending. They just want the most for their money. Also, the consideration phase is much more complex and longer.” The remainder of the piece discusses how to approach your target market during these times. 

Prime Day was supposedly the best ever for Amazon, but they didn’t release any numbers. Adobe Analytics tracked US ecommerce sales on those days and provides some insight. “Buy-now, pay-later accounted for 7.6% of all orders, a 16.4% year-over-year increase.”

MISCELLANEOUS

You know how I always tell small business owners to have multiple revenue streams? Tech needs to have multiple providers and backups as well, as the recent CrowdStrike and Microsoft issues demonstrate. 

If you used Google’s old URL shortener anywhere, those links will no longer redirect as of August 25 2024.

Okay so I’ve gotten a lot of iffy ‘are you a bot or not’ followers recently but I have a perspective to offer

Met a person a few months ago and ended up chatting art so I mentioned I was mainly on tumblr and they made a face (off to a bad start but oh well). Later in the conversation they mentioned having an account so I asked what they posted and they informed me ‘oh I just lurk’. I then politely with a face that spoke my true concern asked if they had added a blog title and profile pic.

They looked at me for a long time then said ‘No.’

I, of course, went through the spiel of why it’s important to add a ‘not a bot’ and select a photo that shows some personality. Quick and easy, it takes two minutes.

They resolutely declined doing so, preferring to take the chance on being blocked as they didn’t have major attachments to the accounts they followed. They offered no reason why they wouldn’t just update their profile anyway, just that they didn’t care either way. It was funny to them to see me mentally buffer.

I think a lot of those people could be people like them. People who wouldn’t admit to having a tumblr and so created an account that shows they have the least amount of attachment to the platform. They aren’t just newcomers or inexperienced platform migrants, they simply want to lurk and be as removed from tumblr culture as possible. If someone ever found their account it could not be tied back to them and if ‘accused’ of having an account they can point out it’s hardly an account. They barely have a presence.

That’s why no amount of begging them to at least put a bio in will do anything. They don’t want to engage at all.

i think the social outcast route is probably my best bet at this rate, i think. im going to be pretty fucking depressed about limiting my social interactions but i think the depression from isolation isnt as bad as getting constant narc crashes from people not putting even a tiny bit of energy into friendships. like.. i honestly am not asking for very much. i get fucking narc highs if someone uses my fucking name in a conversation. i get highs from literally the bare minimum fucking interaction of anything directed in my direction im so desperate....

This had all started two days into the reactivation of my blog. They had posted this.

** CRAZYYYY i go back to take a screenshot of the post and its fucking GONEE. It was a screenshot of my Character Introduction for Nikto. It was basically just talking shit.

At the time MY @ for this blog was in the # portion of the post. My like four followers reached out to me bringing this to my attention. I was almost finished with my fic so I decided to be petty back and send this meme

In no way shape or form does it say what the post is about, the nsfw, the contents, NOTHING. You are absolutely mad if you think i went to read your blog and ur entire life story after you calling me out under hashtags. I am honest to god regretting not taking screenshots of the chat because it was deleted either when they changed their name or blocked me. I dont know or care how tumblr DMS work.

If ur gonna post screenshots post the entire conversation because me stating “dont be sensitive” was referring to the mass amount of nsfw content under tumblr and under the COD fandom. I stated to them in DM there was no r*pe content involved and that it was just touching or him entering the readers personal space. I made sure to directly update it after having this conversation with the other user.

They then proceeded to reblog a post mentioned pedo****a and put MY blog in the hashtags. How the fuck am i a pedo*****e making a NSFW scenario about a man that is well over 20 maybe even 30? Please tell me.

This user then proceeded to remove the hashtags that mentioned me and made the post below

I will personally provide you the link if you want it.

In this post they completely bash my account and LIE about our interaction. Saying that, and i quote

“The author who DMed me even invalidated how much I found rape disturbing by saying “well there’s worse rape fics on here” and saying that I’m too sensitive to be on tumblr.”

Post the entire conversation because this is utter bullshit. All i sent was the meme.

“Imagine telling someone with any kind of past of sexual violence, that they’re too sensitive for the internet “

Because yes, (and this is sarcasm if you are dense) i totallly reviewed this persons account and knew their entire back story of trauma.

Then we have the user’s commenting who dont even BOTHER to check the other side of the story. You would think at the age of 16 or over (tumblr’s age requirement) you would understand that people say shit they way they want you to hear it. There is two sides to each story. If you are that easily influenced and dont do your research after seeing a post on the internet i am genuinely worried.

Then what gets me the most is this person continues to mention me in post. At what point does this become bullying?? You probably wont even read this because you want to feel in the right. Almost your entire blog is complaining about NSFW and how it triggers you like the author is supposed to know. You should probably turn on the NSFW filter. Please message me and i can show you how step by step.

I do not condone or support r*pe sexual assault or pedo****a. You read a NSFW post and got mad it was NSFW.

I'm fine, lately I've been trying to get into university entrance exams, in my country you have to have the best grades to attend a public college, as they are the best in terms of education. Well, I got wriothesley as I said I really liked the character in our last conversation, I was very happy, besides our child came home and I had the happiest day ever, even though building him is so difficult. About English, I definitely identify with you, English is not my first language, I'm Latin and it's totally different from my mother tongue, I can only communicate by writing and it's still so mediocre TT. I’m looking for an Alpha Reader(s) to help me out with two stories in my Ikemen Sengoku: Iron Chef Sengoku universe. Please feel free to reblog if you think your followers might be interested.

Fandom: Ikemen Sengoku, modern AU fusion with Iron Chef - fandom-blind readers are welcome, see General notes

What do I need? I am looking for feedback on plot points, story structure, and general cheerleading to get me going again. Especially appreciated would be anyone open to voice chats on discord or other platforms to talk through things in real time - I benefit greatly from Rubber duck debugging and it’s even better if the rubber duck talks back.

I’ve never worked with alphas or betas before, so this might involve a bit of a learning curve for me. I work in google drive and will share a commenters-access document with you.

I appreciate frank feedback. As long as you’re not deliberately mean, and you’re willing to explain your negative feedback to me, I’m pretty thick-skinned. Even if your feedback upsets me, I promise to take notes and sit with it until the upset passes so I can take it objectively.

That said, the Shingen/OFC story I need help with is coming from a pretty personal place, emotionally, and I might be more married to some aspects of it than I realise.

I absolutely plan to credit my alpha/beta readers publicly unless requested otherwise. 

Timelines: I don’t really have a set timeline for finishing either fic aside from being frustrated with my current lack of progress. I’m not committed to a posting schedule, but would prefer being able to talk with my reader(s) at least once every week or two for a couple of hours.

General notes: Because this is an alternate universe to the original canon, no in-depth knowledge of the Ikemen Sengoku universe is required. If you are coming in fandom-blind, I can easily provide you a context summary and a chart of the canon characters’ relationships as I’ve translated them to this universe. 

The canon characters are intended to be consistent with their in-game portrayals (with appropriate updates to a modern setting). The only exception is Kenshin, who is a cis woman in this universe (cis man in canon), with the same yandere personality (she is only a supporting character in these two stories, so that aspect will probably not come up much).

I don’t believe either of these stories contain any triggering elements - the Shingen/OFC story does contain a blind date with a throw-away character who gets physically aggressive, but the POV character is rescued before any harm is done. The Masamune/MC story contains a lot of dirty jokes and innuendo, plus allusions to the characters’ implied sex lives, but no on-screen sex or graphic violence is planned. There are no non/dub-con elements in the main relationships.

For examples of my previous writing, you can check out my stories on AO3 or my writing tag on tumblr, which includes small ficlets and head-canons that never made it over to the archive. If you’re interested in alpha reading the Shingen/OFC story, I specifically recommend reviewing Oncoming Storm (explicit first-time virgin smut), or Advanced Entomology (explicit smutty smut with some dark psychology). 

ICS Season 1

I put the first chapter up on AO3 about three years ago, wrote two more chapters, and then got sucked into real life things and didn’t touch it again until a month ago. I’m still very excited about the story and have been re-plotting and outlining, but I’m having trouble with the actual writing part.

Rating: General/Teen audiences

Genre: Heterosexual Romance, cooking competitions

Summary: Date Masamune owns a restaurant in Tokyo and is invited by his former mentor and investor, Oda Nobunaga, to join a revival of Iron Chef as Iron Chef Japan. Masamune reluctantly agrees after seeing the audition tape of Mizusaki Mai, a baker and line cook who works to integrate and publicise Ainu culture in her cooking. He is attracted to Mai, but hesitates to act because of his own emotional history and their positions as rivals on the show. Complicating the issue is the other competitor, Mouri Motonari, who has his own attraction to Mai.

Length: My finished chapters are clocking in around 25 pages right now (8-9K words). This was originally planned as a 9 chapter story, but may end up giving or taking a chapter. Currently chapter 1 and 2 are written, chapter 3 is progress. The chapter posted on AO3 will probably be altered when the work is completed.

What do I need? Bonus points for anyone with big thoughts and lived experience in minority cultures, as Mai is half-Ainu in this continuity. I am fully open to being told my representation is inappropriate or insensitive and updating it to do better. Also you should probably enjoy cooking shows, since at least a third of this story involves me blathering on about food.

Iron Chef Sengoku Season 1 Untitled side story - Shingen/Original Female Character

This is a side story taking place in the same universe as the above, but not related to that plot. I've kind of gotten stuck up my own ass with overthinking and desperately need some tough love/encouragement

Rating: Explicit - heterosexual sexual activity in the climax (heh) of the story. Smutty, but vanilla. 

Genre: Heterosexual Romance

Summary: Akiyama Maki, a divorced mother of one, is getting back into the dating scene at the urging of her best friend Sumire. It’s not going great. Dating with a small daughter is hard, and Maki’s insecurities from the breakup of her marriage (and the general crappiness of dating) is making it harder. But her best friend’s friend Takeda Shingen is just so supportive, and nice . . . 

Length: Currently about 5K words, I suspect the finished work will be somewhere between 10-15K. 

What do I need? Bonus points for anyone with female experiences of divorce, pregnancy, and body/sexual insecurity; this OFC and story grew out of some of my own ambivalence about and after giving birth. The themes of this story are very personal to me.

Hi! I'm interested in applying but I don't know how to rp in mewe

✶・hello, thank you for reaching out to us! first and foremost, thank you for showing interest in our collective! we would be very happy to have you be part of our group.

mewe is very user friendly in the sense that it isn't terribly hard to learn how to write on it. the platform resembles facebook a lot: users will find a profile page where they can change their avatar and have access to a little "about me" section. all of their public posts will also show up on their profile. we aren't too sure which platform you are used to, so we will summarize what the mewe rp experience generally is:

the mewe roleplay experience often gravitates around the application being used as a social media platform in character. there are a few expectations upon joining and making an original character, the main one being that the writers are expected to have a page ready for their characters within the first few days of being welcomed into the collective. while a carrd is the most popular option when making a page for your original character, a lot of our members have been using tumblr as well. some people also make google docs! there are a lot of templates you can find on tumblr. people often put the following information on their character pages:

ooc guidelines and disclaimers they would like typists to be aware of when interacting with them. a statistic page of their character / hcs. a biography of their character. open plots and connections they would like to be filled.

you will see a lot of examples already posted in out out of character group. you can also find a lot of accessible carrd tutorials on youtube. when interacting in private messages/dms with the members of the collective, it is always in character (unless stated otherwise) and it is generally assumed to be interpreted as a text message. for instance, if your character dms my character, i will interpret that our characters are texting and not face to face (again, unless plotted or stated otherwise!)

writers often post sns-like posts with pictures and a little caption. it can be compared to instagram or facebook. writers generally post two pictures as well as a caption that touches on various subjects such as their day, their latest interests and so on. our collective is rather active when it comes to that, so you will have a lot of examples to base yourself on upon joining! there are a few groups (similar to facebook fashion) that you will be added in upon joining, but we will mentions the ones you can participate in ic and ooc for the sake of keeping this post as short as possible:

an out of character group where people post plot calls and ooc updates on their reply status and such.

a thread group where people post their public threads with other members (though you do have the option to make private posts and write in private if you wish to!)

a social ic group (ours is called courtyard) where members regularly post about upcoming hang outs and parties. there is also a group chat that your character may participate in. the concept of this group is like an online group chat, which means that your character would be texting in it. there is no action roleplaying in that chat, though you are more than welcome to start threads with people privately or in the thread group if a plot idea stems from a conversation in the group chat.

a development group, which serves as our main writing hub. the admins often post little prompts for writers to develop on certain head canons they might have about their characters. as an example, one of the prompts recently asked was "as of now, what if your character's main goal?". participation is optional. furthermore, writers are encouraged to write self-paras in that group if need be.

a rated group, which is for our members to post all nsfw related things in if they wish to. being added to this group is completely optional and we do have a few members who opted out of it. this group is currently empty.
