First of all, no, I pretty much don't think that anybody deserves to be the focus of a targeted harassment campaign. At least not the kind that are spun up on tumblr or twitter. I generally think that targeted harassment campaigns don't work to change minds, they only work to torment, isolate, and attack people, which will often further entrench them in their positions.

Sometimes people doing serious antifascist work will make a discovery like, for instance "the principal of X school is a vicious antisemite" and will run an *exposure* campaign to get them removed from a position of power, but with very few exceptions when you see an online callout post for a random internet user it's nothing but abuse and an attempt to bully them off of a specific website, not an attempt to protect victims or inform people of a genuine threat. "ABC is the new alt of this person with a documented history of starting cults, DNI, block and move on" is very different than "This specific user who is on staff posts harry potter fanart and is why fascists continue to exist on tumblr, let's make sure they know what tumblr thinks of them."

You are trying to frame bullying campaigns as normal consequences for antisocial behavior, but the antisocial behaviors under discussion here are "user posted fanart broadly disliked by the community and associated with specific ideologies long after the initial fandoms were crystallized" and "is the CEO of a social media website that is implementing features that the users dislike."

"People deserve to be screamed at until they stop the bad behavior" is punitive and shitty and so broad and open to so many interpretations that you're basically saying "it's open season on screaming at people." People talk about "tumblr had to settle because their filtering disproportionately impacted lgbtq+ creators" and that is TRUE however that was a filter that was established under different owners with different policies and different staff; the implication that the current staff is guilty of trying to stifle LGBTQ+ content because a lawsuit started before the Automattic purchase of tumblr ended in a financial settlement is just bad, wrong, incorrect, faulty logic. And if I might indulge in a bit of my own conspiracist thinking: I actually suspect a lot of the flagging and tagging and blocking of trans women specifically might actually be targeted attacks of individual users by terfs - many of the things that are getting flagged as needing a community label are things that use tags that terfs follow to attack and if enough users click "this needs a community label" the post will get flagged - I don't know that that's what's going on but just operating on occam's razor I think it's a lot more likely that terfs are coordinating attacks on trans people than that there is a secret group of cryptoterfs on staff taking time out of their day to ensure that trans users get flagged, if only because I think that the vocally trans positive former members of the staff would have said something about it.)

I'm reminded of Lindsey Ellis, who was the victim of a years-long targeted harassment campaign and made multiple apologies over the years who was finally driven off of her primary platform because she carelessly misspoke and the people who had been targeting her for years were able to make a post that she had long disavowed and was a relic of her dealing with the aftermath of sexual violence go viral. The internet doesn't let people make amends; people see accusations. They see the first post, not the follow up. That's why starting these campaigns is shitty and dangerous even if you *personally* believe that you'll forgive an individual once they "make amends." (and the "amends" people usually demand are "i want this person gone from the internet forever and cut out of this part of their life" - that's not really something that's fair to ask of people when so much of the world is online these days.)

Barbara the commented to another post about how it confusing to supporters who are suprise at the cost of that RTX in order to make profit for RT as well as the hesitation for vol 10. Now I'm not trying to be a crazy conspiracy theorist here BUT considering the fact RT stop airing the show on YouTube and if you wanted to watch the show or any other RT shows you had to go to their website. Then season 2 of Genlock being transfered to HBO MAX before being shutdown completely. And the cherry on top all of the scandals that was happening with the company itself.

Everything was a dam waiting to any moment now.

Sure it was popular and trending on Tumblr and Twitter. But just because it was popular here and other sites isn't enought to keep the company standing.

Now this is just my opinion. I really don't think any company is going to pick RWBY for nostalgia purpose yes but with all the controversy, bad handling of finances, and how Barabra states the show need to be profitable (which it hasn't been even with the partnership of Crunchyroll). RWBY will now forever be tied with RT failings and no company wants to touch that.

I also doubt know if RT was genuinely serious if RWNY found another home but with them being vague I'm pretty sure they actually meant it as "we are actually hoping for someone to but this show and we don't actually have a company in mind" so yeah #greenlit volume 10 is more like #please some help a us out

Really interesting things that everybody should read!!

They really took RWBY for granted, that's what I'm getting out of this!

RT has a love-hate relationship with RWBY because they begrudgingly have to fulfill the show, but really they want to promote their other projects and 7 thousand podcasts that nobody cared about. They want the old-fashioned Roosterteeth back (gaming, jabbering, podcasting, bro-ing around), but with their fame dwindling and not catching up to today's mainstream, they basically put RWBY through the wringer just for attention.

They never grew up. They never took responsibility and they failed themselves.

When they're destined to shut this year, now they care about RWBY because they know the show is their money maker. Reality hit them like 5 freight trains and it forced them to get a grip. There's nothing wrong with needing help (begging for any company to pick up RWBY,) but they also need to do their part and fix their problems. No company would want to be back-loaded with their bullshit if they don't get themselves together.

I mean even Crunchyroll couldn't help them forever. I wouldn't be surprised if CR didn't want RWBY after their run with V9. If Amazon picks it up - because Amazon tends to pick up anything - then I may be intrigued. Sometimes Amazon airs hits or misses, just like A24 or Netflix.

Unordinary Type

I was originally going to watch more Pedro Pascal stuff before getting attached to any character enough to write for them, but I watched Prospect first and Ezra stole my heart.

This is my first "x Reader" style story! So bear with me while I get used to the finer aspects such as which tense to use.

I know nothing about how nursing or emergency rooms work, everything about this is informed by my experience on morphine for the removal of an ovary that had necrotized due to a mega-cyst.

And credit to @morallyinept for the one stop shop for Ezra! I haven't used it too much yet but I wanted to acknowledge it anyway.

This is chapter one because I can't resist writing long, sweeping epics, and I might post it to Ao3 as well.

(Warning! Not only did Tumblr force me to break this in half to fit the character limit, it's also refusing to let me post the second half! Funsies!! I'll most definitely be posting this to Ao3 now, but it might take a day or two.)

You arrived to your late shift at the space stations medical bay to find it absolutely crawling with people. The place had never been packed like this before, wall-to-wall bodies in every direction, doctors and nurses scrambling to do their jobs amongst the throng. Curiosity getting the better of you, you flagged down your superior, but before the question could pass your lips, he preempted you, "evacuees from a gas leak on the lowest level. No one is severely injured, but we've been instructed to keep them here until the leak is patched." "We'll be out of beds in no time, most likely," you point out, and the man commiserates before assigning you to the team checking people in and guiding them to their rooms, a task you normally enjoyed. But the people displaced by the leak were heavily agitated, and you had to bite back many a scathing comment as you received unearned attitude about inconsequential things such as whether the room had windows. Who wants a window out into the vast coldness of space, anyway? As hours pass, the crowd begins to thin, but before you could finally breath a sigh of relief, a wave from a not-very-well-lit dead end hallway gets your attention. You've complained to maintenance about that light often, and you huff a little before brushing down the front of your pale gray scrubs and putting on your best nurturing smile. The smile falters slightly when you walk down the hall and see who it was that waved. You couldn't even hazard a guess as to the blonde girls age, but she had to have been in her teens. Based on the suit, you guessed she had just come back from a trip to the Green Moon, since this space station was the last stop on the way to the nearest urbanized planet. Behind the girl, a man in a similar yet somewhat more ragged suit was leaning against the wall, and you were momentarily shaken to find that he was missing his right arm, the left clutching at an injury to his side. Pretty sure this should have qualified as an emergency as soon as they arrived and wondering how long they had been waiting, you turn and signal one of your coworkers to find you a room with two beds before giving the duo your undivided attention. Less chipper than you would have liked, you give them your name before saying, "and I'm going to get you taken care of. Can I get your names, please?" The girl clearly didn't care for what she saw as fake comforting, and she looked to her companion before responding in a voice far more level than you expected, "we can't pay." "You can discuss that with our financial department later," you tried to be realistic and soothing at the same time, "for now, let me get your names so I can get you into a room." Still skeptical, the girl nods and says, "I'm Cee. He's Ezra." You start writing before she asks seriously, "can we get separate rooms?" Her companion laughs out loud at her request, and you try your best not to laugh back. "I'm sorry, we're down to two-person rooms at this point, but I can get you the really thick private dividers?" Nodding slowly and taking her struggling companion by the elbow, the girl follows you as you ask your coworker for the room number and fill out their paperwork with as much information as they're willing to give you. Which isn't a whole lot, justifying your suspicions that they must have come back from prospecting. It's dangerous business, to be sure, you remember your own father saying the last time you saw him, before going on a prospecting venture himself. A venture he never returned from, leaving you and your mother alone to pick up the pieces. Burying that back in your mind where it belonged, you keep asking questions, but your two patients aren't very forthcoming about their ages, places of birth, or how they got off the Green Moon in such terrible conditions.

425 Works on AO3 Check In

I've now got 425 works up on AO3, so it's time for my scheduled check in on fandom behavior in regard to my works. As a reminder, you can find past entries in this series using the "griselda gimpel AO3 checkins" tag.

Not really anything to report for this check in, honestly. I haven't gotten any harassment since last check in. I did get a couple-few mildly irritating comments on "A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo", but nothing that rises to the level of harassment. Just the usual "people forget that when they leave a comment, an actual person will be reading it".

Anyway, last check in, I talked about fandom as a panopticon. This time, I'm thinking about the temporal nature of fandom misbehavior.

Okay, one of the fics I wrote recently was another Sylki fic. And I know there are Sylki Antis. They've never bothered me, personally, but I know they exist. And I wasn't in the Voltron fandom, but my friend Stitch was, and she's told horror stories about the fan misbehavior in that fandom. And I was in the Our Flag Means Death fandom, and I know how toxic the Izzy Antis there were.

Loki season two ended a bit ago. There's still a lovely Sylki community here on tumblr I belong to, but I imagine the fandom has died down a bit. I know Our Flag Means Death has, and I haven't heard of Izzy fans getting harassment recently. Voltron's also faded, it seems.

So...where did the toxic fans (or anti fans) in those fandoms go afterward? Did they mature and stop harassing people? Did they leave fandom all together? Or are the toxic fans of one fandom the same toxic fans of fandoms that were popular in years past? It's definitely worth study if someone has a good methodology.

(I am unable to be the one to conduct this study. I block toxic fans on their fist offense.)

Anyway, to recap, in total:

In the Our Flag Means Death fandom, I got a harassing anonymous Ask on tumblr for being an Izzy fan.

In the This Is How Your Lose the Time War fandom, I got an angry comment on a fan fic because it featured a pit bull. Yes, the dog. No, this one will never stop being hilarious to me.

In The Magnus Protocol fandom, my Dickonzo fic got mocked on tumblr.

I've had multiple instances of getting angry comments or my work reported because I talked about racism.

Coming up, I'll be posting an Ouizzy fic and a Dickonzo fic for two of my big bangs, so we will see what the response to them is.

YEAH, I'm assuming you saw the pinned post, but pretty much it's just tumblr messing something up on their end. Sadly not the first time it's happened to one of my blogs, so I sent a support ticket right away and have been waiting to hear back, lol. The blog is still viewable, just not in search results or messages or notes or whatever, I think it can pretty much only be accessed through direct URL?

I'm not sure why it happens, but if I had to guess, it probably has something to do with tumblr's auto-flagging system, it probably thought there was something "inappropriate" in the new chapter or something (which there OBVIOUSLY is not, unless violence counts lmao) and did some weird blog-censoring of sorts, so what I'll probably do for future chapters is just keep the preview text/drawings for tumblr posts and then link to the AO3 version for the full chapter rather than posting entire chapters here, in case tumblr freaks out about certain words or phrases or something lmao

Tumblr's Community Labels

Some of you are probably already aware of this, but for all those that don't know, Tumblr has introduced a new community labelling system designed to filter "mature" posts. With the nature of what this community is, I thought it important to make sure people were aware of what exactly this means.

When posting, editing or reblogging content you have the option of labelling things, as shown below.

What this means is that some people won't see content with these labels applied, depending on your personal settings.

Excluding these labels from posts generally means they'll reach a wider audience, but we cannot guarantee labels won't get added by the moderators. Anyone can flag a post as missing community labels for review by Tumblr's moderator's, and if they choose to add labels they can't then be removed.

Posts with these labels may then be automatically hidden from view for you if you haven't made sure you can see posts with these labels, which can almost completely kill off a story/caption many readers here would otherwise have seen and enjoyed.

How do I check my settings?

If you're a fan of mine, or of any other writer in this community, I'd highly recommend checking your settings for these new filters. As I've said once already, there's nothing we can really do besides taking the post down and putting it back up again to remove the filters, so check your settings to make sure you don't miss anything.

Under "Account Settings" you'll find a section labelled "Content you see" you can adjust what community labels you want to be automatically hidden or displayed there. Making sure they're set to "show" will ensure you don't miss things if they do get flagged.

Those on iOS will have to use the desktop version of Tumblr to change your settings be warned!

Hopefully this helps make people aware of the new system in place, any reblogs would be greatly appreciated to spread the word!

No. 36 - Riyadh Air

No, they are not changing their name to Saudi Arabian Airways, but there is a new development on the Saudi Arabian flag carrier front.

That's right, Saudia is dead, sayonara you w-

No. That isn't true, that was a joke. But what isn't a joke is that Riyadh Air is a planned second flag carrier for Saudi Arabia.

That's mostly a joke. Other countries have multiple flag carriers, though that comes with a couple caveats. Usually when this happens one is full-service and international while the other is domestic and/or low cost. The UAE has two flag carriers, but one is Dubai's and the other is Abu Dhabi's, which feels like an important distinction.

Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, just has decided they want to operate a second airline instead of doing the normal thing and putting all their resources into one really good airline. I don't understand it. The plan is to keep Saudia based in Jeddah while Riyadh Air is based in Riyadh...again, plenty of airlines have multiple hubs, so I don't see the point. They claim to be the first "digital-native airline", which is shaped like words yet means nothing (also, take that up with David Neeleman and Breeze). They've nabbed Etihad's old CEO and bought a bunch of 787s, and the stated goal is to become the largest carrier in the Gulf region at an unprecedented blistering pace in order to increase tourism. Given Emirates's numbers...well, it's probably still more likely to happen than a startup airline operating exclusively A380s managing to turn a profit, but that's not saying much.

Anyway, they've got a livery! Apparently this is the first of two, so expect a follow-up post when the second one drops, but for now there's plenty to talk about as is.

Unlike many - nay, most - of the subjects I cover, Riyadh Air has made me do absolutely zero research. You do get modern liveries like jetBlue and Lufthansa with little style guides to weakly attempt to back up their relatively mundane graphic design choices and things like condor and Icelandair's lovely little webpages, but Riyadh Air has done them all at least one if not several better by not only explaining in detail where they got their inspiration but also giving me a high-res 3D model of their airplane that I can rotate and zoom in and out on.

Take care; my computer is fairly underpowered and I do have an absurd number of tabs open most of the time, but this did crash my browser multiple times. Even just opening the main page of their website makes my CPU sound like it's spooling up for takeoff.

Okay. First I want to discuss the logo. They've got a video up on their thought process. I had transcribed it, but it looks better in motion, and thankfully they've stopped making it autoplay (presumably because, as I mentioned, this website absolutely guzzles processor as is) and in the process made it possible for me to simply left-click it off their website and into this post. Don't worry about it killing your browser. It's a normal video in a normal tumblr post without a 100 million dollar website chugging along in the background.

(I've taken some screenshots in case anyone does have trouble with the video.)

Now this is how you design a logo. The airplane window thing feels, in retrospect, so obvious I can't believe nobody had done it yet. I think it pairs gorgeously with the R, and I love that they chose to take inspiration from Arabic calligraphy, which is not only a massive point of pride for cultures which utilize the script but also just generally gorgeous. (It looks a bit like a stretched backwards hamza to me.) The shape of the bird's wing is the part I have the most trouble actually connecting to what I'm seeing, but sure, I'll give it to them. What the heck. This logo is nice.

I mentioned when discussing China Airlines that very few airlines use lavender as a primary color. Well, here's one that does! They actually discuss this on their website as well:

Inspired by the lavender blossoms that carpet Saudi Arabia, we've chosen this color because it symbolizes Saudi generosity and its authentic hospitality.

And this is, again, pretty fantastic. This is a thoughtful choice which isn't lazy or arbitrary. It has the potential to really pack a visual punch, and it does the thing I love when flag carriers do - references a feature of its home nation.

An upside to the fact that the livery page takes eons for my computer to chew on is that I get shown this lovely loading screen, which demonstrates the fantastic combination of blues and purples which make up the full scheme of this airline's colors. I love the combination of these colors. Light saturated colors are rare enough, but to see extremely dark blues and purples together like this is a rare delight. It definitely has the potential to get eyestrainy, but if done well it could look absolutely breathtaking.

But will it be done well? After all, a good idea isn't always well-implemented - see condor - and China Airlines's livery fails for me because it's barely got any lavender! So does Riyadh Air fall into the same pit? Let's check the browser-destroying 3D model they've lovingly provided us.

I love that 3D model, by the way. Instead of looking for a bunch of pictures of airplanes that happen to be in the correct lighting and at the right angle to demonstrate the exact thing I'm attempting to discuss I can just...zoom in while putting the plane at the specific angle I want. Normally I actually try not to rely too heavily on things like style guides because a piece of flat-colored concept art isn't actually going to communicate how a plane looks in motion and with light on it, but this is a really really robust model. Sure, it's not quite as maneuverable as I'd like it to be, it's still not a perfect representation of real life, but it's really well made. It even sways side to side a bit and if you zoom in close enough you can see they bothered to model the external sensors and the engines are even turning! Don't worry about the fact that if you zoom in even further you can tell the engines are just a fan suspended floating in a cowling. They even added ambient engine sounds. This model is so cool it legitimately took me several minutes of turning it around and muttering "wow..." under my breath before I realized the environment it was sitting in was just some very stretched and crunchy jpgs.

Mmm, those reflections.

To be honest, I also just enjoyed playing with this thing. It's almost like having a real model plane, but doesn't cost more money than I have! But enough of that.

So they definitely didn't chicken out when it came to the lavender. This plane is as purple as a Breeze Airways plane is blue (it is very purple). It's not just a purple tube, though. Even from a distance you can see that there's added detail here.

I love the wordmark, first off. They've really committed to the billboard look with this gigantic text in both English and Arabic. I love it. With such an overwhelming main body color it feels prudent to make sure the name is as visible as possible so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

And with this gigantic, recognizable logo plastered on the bottom you'd be able to identify it just as well from below (and this is zoomed out as far as the website let me!). In fact, the depth of the design really shines best from below. That's not necessarily a good thing, because your plane does have to be parked sometimes, but it's not a dealbreaker either. I just need to say that this is probably my favorite design for an engine nacelle, ever. It's gorgeous, and you can see in the first picture how well it flows into the main design. They don't go together quite as well from the bottom, and from below the plane does look a bit rear-heavy and the wordmark peering in is a bit awkward, but none of those ruin it. I would be stunned if I saw this fly overhead.

The website provides a few details about the design if you zoom in and click little black dots. It took me ages to realize this. It's neither intuitive nor accessible and I truly despise it, so I've taken the liberty of transcribing the bits that matter.

You can turn this plane in any which way you'd like, zoom in and out, and the details on the bottom never stop being beautiful and coherent. It truly does remind me of calligraphy. As they describe it:

Rooted in our Heritage The controlled, smooth linear profiles make up our signature "Canopy Twist". A perfect balance of our rich local culture and our modern global outlook, connecting the city of Riyadh to the world.

I love the name 'Canopy Twist', to be honest. And I love the design, too. My one criticism of it is the colors. They already have an established secondary shade of purple. That they used the text color for the highlights makes sense, but why couldn't they have used their lavender instead of a third shade of purple? In the quantity used for the underside it feels disconnected from the rest of the livery and they could have fixed that very easily by just...using their already existing secondary shade of purple? I think it would make for a very nice bridge to the tail as well, and it just feels like a colossal missed opportunity.

You may have noticed that the bulk of the fuselage body is a color a bit darker than what might conventionally be considered 'lavender'. This, too, is noted.

Indigo Livery Inspired by the ever-changing colors that paint the sky from dusk till dawn. A symbol of tranquility, harmony and integrity.

(This color is obviously purple, not indigo, but I will not belabor that point.)

I love the description, the idea of the transition between dusk and dawn. Much like the window as a basis for a logo, this makes me go "why in the world has nobody thought of that before? That's brilliant!"

It makes me think a bit more could have been done in the details. Maybe the canopy twist could be a gradient, like the gradient of the sky while the sun is rising? Just a thought.

And ultimately it's the canopy twist that is my only real sticking point with this livery. It is beautiful and unique and well-designed and it is simply a color that sticks out like a sore thumb. It's the only warm thing creeping into a design otherwise full of beautiful cool tones, it has gorgeous flow within itself but breaks up the feeling of consistency through the airframe as a whole, and I just...I really wish it were lavender.

If that's my main issue you can do a lot worse. And overall I do like the Riyadh Air livery. If that one detail was changed, this would easily be an A. This review would be all but uncritical. Except for the fact that it could use a bit of canopy twist up top, too (maybe just a tiny bit on the top of the nose, flowing in the same direction) in order to make the plane feel less rear-heavy (though it already beats out the vast majority of liveries in that sense), the issue with the color is my only big criticism. But it's the main detail of the design, isn't it?

It's wild. So much of the time my reviews are "good details, bad when you step back". But this is the opposite. Fantastic, but there's that one detail that sticks with you. And the details by and large are far from bad too. I mentioned the nacelles, and I think it very elegantly transitions the tail into the body. It would be more elegant if the design on the body was the same lavender, though!

A few more nitpicks: the centering of the logo on the tailfin is a little strange, the tail would look better if it had a bit of a gradient to make it less matte-seeming, and the combined effect of those is very luxury-hotel-towel-monogram. Okay. I'm done complaining.

So it falls short of being one of the best I've ever reviewed, but I still really, really like it. The calligraphy inspiration creates these elegant sweeping lines that are perfectly at home on the 787. The deep purple looks luxurious despite the fact that Riyadh Air doesn't plan to offer first class. It's eyecatching. It's stylish.

And, now that I've covered all this, let's look at the colors in person! That's right, they've already had a plane delivered in full Riyadh Air colors.

The deep purple with the lighter canopy twist, combined with the tiny white dots of the various probes and such, make this plane look like an animal camouflaging itself against the night sky in a place untouched by light pollution. The light lavender contrasts sharply in this particular image, sharply enough that it feels like a slice cut out of the plane.

This continues to be an issue from other angles and in other lightings, but the cool-toned light makes this purple look like true indigo and the blueish cast improves the look, giving an almost fluorescent appearance to the transition between the twist and the tail. The way the light reflects off the dark paint makes it look rippling and shifting and alive in a way it never could off white.

In shadow, the plane looks as dark as a city sky. In light, the vibrant purple of a fresh eggplant. This paint job adapts wonderfully to its environment. Much like Vietnam Airlines's, each light brings out a unique beauty.

And sometimes, the tail, detached though it may look, does so in the way a shining arm of a spiral galaxy neatly transitions into the black expanse around it.

Riyadh Air's planes range from ultraviolet to supervoid, but they are never lost in their environment. The principles behind the design remain consistent, and beautiful, and alone in a sky full of planes which refuse to embrace the dark skies they fly in on red-eye journeys.

Ultimately, I think Riyadh Air's livery feels a bit overdesigned. They added one color too many, and a few decisions feel like they don't belong together in the same picture. Just think about the amount of colors here, the balance of major features, and think about Vietnam Airlines, and you'll see what I mean. I'm not a fan of minimalism, but sometimes the only way to keep a story straight is to minimize loose ends. A secret becomes exponentially more likely to be exposed with each new person who learns it.

But before I looked closer, before I zoomed in and out on a little 3D model while my computer screamed, I saw this livery for the first time and my jaw hit the floor. And the average person isn't going to think about this the way I do. Ultimately, my critical eye is usually something I defer to, but I can't argue with the fact that this livery is going to be to someone else what China Airlines is to me. And, like China Airlines, when they come back and look closer at it they'll notice it wasn't as perfect as they thought, but...we've come so far, if this is someone's China Airlines. And as much as I nitpick at details the package counts, too. If you asked me why China Airlines got a C- instead of a D+, my honest reason would be...it struck me enough that I singled it out to begin with, even though that started to fall apart when I looked closer.

Why am I giving Riyadh Air an A- instead of a B+? Because this plane will stun people 5,000 feet below it, and they'll think to themselves that it's the prettiest plane they've ever seen.

my reviews so far:

cohost: basically tumblr, but you can post porn. you cannot see how many likes a post got, even if it's your own, without going to notifications and manually counting and adding it all up. while i'm not a clout chaser, it feels kinda lonely not knowing if people liked this picture or that without having to get out an abacus. if i wanted interaction entirely hidden from me, i'd set up my own gallery website on a neocities and be done with it.

bluesky: it's just twitter but not run by elon musk. that makes it better than twitter run by elon musk, but no better than twitter was before elon musk.

itaku: probably the strongest of the competitors to, say, FA, but mandatory tagging, and its mandatory tags being different from those on other sites, means you can't just "upload and forget." uploading a backlog of several years' worth of images especially would be a multiple hour task from having to figure out what unique tags i gotta put on every single thing. also character limit makes it hard for me to find a place for my stories, which is like 50% of everything i do, so.

furaffinity: the grandpappy. ailing, outdated, increasingly shitty rules. engagement is on a downturn with the dozens of diasporas, its interface is deeply outdated, it can't display writing more complex than a .txt. the big advantage it had of intertia is finally slowly failing on it.

tumblr: you can't even say the word transgender here without getting flagged as mature. you can post porn, but only if you set it to Everyone, meaning if you do the responsible thing and try to keep children from seeing your porn you're punished. if you just let kids see your porn, they do nothing at all to stop you. this place betrayed my trust too many times by this point.

weasyl: a picture from a really great artist will get 500 favs on furaffinity and 25 on weasyl. this place is fucking dead and has been for the past decade.

sofurry: ill be honest i haven't looked at yiffstar since the mid 00s

inkbunny: probably one of the most robust websites, with the widest set of rules for drawing whatever you want. powerful blacklist and tagging system, good gallery mode. not sure on its ability to host stories. you can find cub porn on there but you could find that on FA back in the day too. downside: cannot do porn of humans, meaning weird human x furry is off the table, which i dont do much of but is still a downer. downside is the stigma of it being the cub website means most of the people you'd find on other sites aren't here so it's really its own ecology. also greenreaper is a weird transphobe transperson kinda thing and ew.

I think its really odd that Alex dropped being trans saying it was a joke, that makes me upset that he called being trans a joke, like that should raise red flags. Hi! Im also trans. Being transgender does not absolve you from making transphobic or transmisogynistic comments. And there was definitely transmisogynistic rhetoric that was used as an argument against Alex's case. It does not matter how Alex ultimately identifies as, as in the time where they presented as transfeminine, simple comments about their clothing with no implication were called predatory, their presentation as feminine was called predatory. And i wont lie, we cant even see how they were dressing in those pictures that they gave, because the entire photo was censored out. Why use a photo as evidence of fetishistic or predatory behavior if we cant even see the photo?

I do think Alex did have inappropriate interactions with people in that server. But them simply dressing femininely and saying they want to be feminine or a girl is not anything inappropriate or predatory.

As for Alex saying it was a joke, I said in my prior post that i didnt really believe what they said here, and i think that for a couple reasons. One, Alex seemed pretty genuinely engaged with their presentation and seemed happy and comforted with their presentation. And two, Alex's mental health patterns have shown that they are a person who clings to the comforts and support they can get from people, and also shows that they are a person who isnt grounded with their self very much. So rather than looking at an out of context screenshot . . .

. . . Im going to look at the pattern of behavior that i see and draw my conclusions for that. And even if Alex isn't transfemme or just likes crossdressing, theres nothing wrong with that either. Theres nothing wrong with dressing femininely, whether you are feminine or not.

Youre still allowed to be hurt by his statements, you can have your personal feelings about everything thats happened. But I am too, and im gonna point it out when i see harmful rhetoric used

How I feel about this character: I like her !!! i feel like shes not talked about much outside of ships which is a shame because i feel like if people came together on her character (this includes people writing canon) then there could be a compelling character here that wouldnt deny her roots or just stay the same sort of trope she used to be. I cant deny i do enjoy that they occassionally dip into her little interest in tarot :) its nice to see that trait remembered.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: sonic of course, shadow, blaze a bit?, metal sonic anddd... yea thats it

My non-romantic OTP for this character: i think her with silver or knuckles is always fun :) idk why i think its because they bounce off of each other well. equal levels of no braincells happening here at least with silver. and with knuckles i feel like they could have a fun brother sister dynamic.

My unpopular opinion about this character: what is the popular opinion on her .... idk ill just use this as more of me talking about her character in general. i wish people would use her abandonment issues more, or at least like integrate that into her character since i think its a trait that shows up a bit in the little visual novel and in sonic frontiers and i think that makes sense as a trait for her

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: if she was ever playable again . I HAVENT played the sonic frontiers dlc but i think giving her a little spin off game ala the princess peach games would be fun. maybe then her team from sonic heros can be used again and i could like care about big and cream outside of them being sparingly used in canon .. and big not just being a joke ... also i just want more development for herrr im always begging for development or character in this series i know its for children but plsss also i wish they would like actually like .. fully deal with her whole thing with sonic... it feels like they wanna pretend her obsession just never happened and wasnt like the main thing with her character before they basically turned her into sally acorn.

Hazbin Art Scam

Hey everyone. I've gotten a few of these scam DMs from people pretending to be in the Hazbin Hotel fandom, so I just wanted to share some information and make others aware of this scam. I am sure a lot of people would see the red flags through their DMs with these people, but this is also so you can spot when one of these accounts has followed/DMed you so you can just block. It sucks to get your hopes up about meeting a new Hazbin Hotel fan, only to realize you're talking to a scammer.

So, this is how the scam starts. You'll see someone has followed you out of the blue. Typically they don't like any posts and it is unclear how they found you or why they have any interest in your content. It happens sometimes, but it doesn't stop there. If you look at their page, it looks normal at first because they'll have a Hazbin Hotel related profile picture and banner. It tends to be themed around one character in particular, mimicking how a lot of fan blogs look. Usually they'll say they're an artist, but they either only reblog other art posts instead of posting their own (without tags normally) or any art they post is clearly stolen. They're a bit buried but, if you scroll enough and the latter is true, you will find it.

Their bios, in general, look real enough, though if you look closer there's usually a "nonsense phrase" stuck in there that makes you give it a second glance. They also commonly have hashtags in their bio, showing they have no idea how Tumblr works. Here are two examples from the two I had message me:

They will message you almost immediately after following, saying "hey", "hi", or something similar. They'll start some small talk with you enough to make them seem like a genuine Hazbin Hotel fan before getting down to business (mostly asking your opinions on stuff).

The biggest tell is they always seem to ask two things: They will always ask who your favorite Hazbin Hotel character is (even if that information is extremely obvious) and they will ask you if you want to see their commission work or artwork. It's typically under the guise of having OCs they want to share with you, also asking you if you have OCs.

This is their side of the conversation from one that messaged me recently. I went along with it a little more just to see how it would play out:

I linked the commissioned art they showed me back to a Fiverr account (like, it's literally just the example pictures) they had no connection to. Don't be convinced by them getting defensive when you point out it is extremely bizarre to randomly offer someone OC art when you know nothing about them or their content. It is weird, they just want to guilt you into thinking you're being overly cautious so you'll go along with the scam. If you wanna know how outright bizarre this is, my Hazbin Hotel OC is readily available information in my pinned that anyone can access at anytime, even the slightest look at my page would have told them that.

I didn't see the scam the whole way through for obvious reasons, but. For anyone new to Tumblr, like actual users, just so you know this is not normal Tumblr etiquette at all, especially in fandom spaces. Someone messaging you right after following you isn't weird...granted they actually have interacted with you or your posts beforehand and actually talk to you about this rather than asking questions anyone could ask. Most of the questions these scammers ask is based off of basic knowledge you could find through a Google search (like character names, the fact Hazbin Hotel is getting multiple seasons, and so on) without going into any specifics or normal fandom talk like headcanons or gushing. Any time you mention something specific, they will deflect it or ask another question so they won't have to admit they know nothing about the show or its actual contents.

Plus, if an artist really wants to draw your OC, they'll probably send you an ask or a DM directly asking permission, not try to coax you into it through vague small talk or showing off the art you should already be able to see on their page. Or, if you've made it clear you are okay with people making art of your OCs, they'll just do it and tag you. You'll probably have seen them around in your fandom spaces too rather than them just popping up out of nowhere. If someone you've never heard of or seen before follows you and immediately messages you, especially if they're claiming to be an artist with no pinned or very little information about it, it's best to just block.

Didn't this whole discussion start with the supposed toxicity of the Sherlock mod? Who was trying to prevent an RPer from leaving? That's precisely what he did to John, according to John's posts on his blog (you have to read between the lines), perhaps to Mycroft even (dunno for sure). But who knows for sure they did? Isn't it logically that you beg someone not to leave because you want to continue what you're doing?

I saw the last post on the John blog and was quite moved. He always sounds like a very reasonable guy, unlike Sherlock, unlike you guys on here. Sorry.

I'm afraid you haven't been actually paying attention if you think I can see his blog. After our conversation in a comment section, the John mod blocked me. Which I posted about.

If you have read all my posts, etc you would see that I've answered every single ask except two. Even the spicy ones sent by Harriet mod as themselves and as anon and the 3 by the Mycroft/John mod as anonymous. Even, when John sent basically the same message 3 times (my inbox, ask, and tagging me (as John) ((which can be considered harassment)), I never "came after" them. Not like they have for most of the other mods, including ones OUTSIDE of their rp group.

We don't know the nature of the begging. And we can't ask the source because they specifically said to LEAVE THEM ALONE. Begging, is not inherently wrong? Not sure what you're insinuating here. Maybe you are assuming how they were begging was wrong? If you have any insider information on this I would very much be interested.

If you call avoidance, deflection, refusing to break character on a concerning issue (referring to when this was just about the fishy miscommunication) as "Reading between the lines", that's a personal problem for you. All that I mentioned in this paragraph are all red flags. Very red. On fire, red. And no one can help you see these till you're ready. That's why so many people stay with OBVIOUSLY (and sometimes not so publicly obvious) awful partners that mistreat them, why we excuse our (our as in as whole, not saying you and me specifically) abusive parents behavior, or side with an abusive government(s) that sanctions genocide.

As for being reasonable...I am reasonable. Till I'm not. I will never be reasonable to bullying/abuse. Especially when it involves little kids and old people. I will go fucking feral. And with this situation, after the pretzels John clearly twisted himself into, the PUBLIC harassment of Greg, yeah, for sure, I'm more in my feels in this. That being said, I haven't lost all rational thought. Cuz these are grown adults that are involved and feral me isn't needed.

And if you see this in yourself, recognize it, get help, and you can improve. -He post 2-3 times a week exclusively in the middle of the night

-Everyone is like who is this fucker and is he ok (the consensus is that he is very not ok) 

-Sometimes he posts things like “I think God wants me dead” and everyone is like ok mood but are you good??? (he’s not)

-People genuinely can’t tell if he’s a devout catholic or a troll (plot twist he’s both) 

-Someone: OP you good? BlindJustice666: God has forsaken me to live for my sins. Someone: Understandable have a nice day

-He finds out because he posts something and someone responds “hey OP you ever hear of autism cuz I’m like 99% sure you’ve got it” 

-He’s like 😮😮😮 {three shocked emojis} and does’t post for two weeks which is worrying to everyone because because its around the time he’s made a red flag post but he comes back and starts posting like nothings happened

-He deep dived into researching autism and figures out that he indeed has it

-This is around season 1 and he tells no one

-he makes some posts about it months later 

-Karen and Foggy find these posts after season 3 and are like “fuck” and start trying to surreptitiously accommodating that without letting him know that they know

-He stops posting right after Midland Circle (obviously) and everyone is worried

-The first post after is “Sorry I disappeared for a while I died for like a week them my arch nemesis tried to kill me and I kind of think I’m hallucinating???” 

-He posts “why do I fail at everything? I can not even die properly. God has forsaken me to live. His retribution is worse than Hell itself” after his Season 3 suicide attempt and everyone is worried (as they should be) 

-After that people send him asks like hey please keep living you make out lives better 

-He absolutely looses it when he sees those asks and Maggie finds him sobbing on the floor. he’s like “oh no they don’t know how terrible a person I am”

-He makes a whole post apologizing for playing them and making them think he’s not a monster

-no one believes it

-Eventually Karen shows Sister Maggie the blog so she can also keep an eye on him. 

-Her user name is just maggie 

-She doesn’t really post anything but if she did Tumblr would love her 

-Matt never makes posts with info that could be linked back to him

-However he does make some posts that are supposed to be “fun stories” from his childhood 

-He has some posts about Stick

-BlindJustice666: *random super fucked up story about Stick* So that was a weird thing that happened lol. Everyone: *concern* 

-Everyone is mildly concerned that he was a child soldier (Their not wrong) 

-Everything he posts is so incredibly specific or very very vague
