I want to preface that I do agree with the curating your own online experience and that you are responsible for enforcing your boundaries by removing yourself from people or situations that violate them, it is not other peoples responsibility to manage or control your emotions. They can't control you, you can't control them.

I can somewhat understand why people might be asking others to police their content rather than doing it themselves.

I sometimes do the same myself in face to face interactions and didn't know I was for the longest time. This was largely in part that my mother wouldn't listen to the boundaries I'd try to set with her as a child, which in a round about way taught me that my boundaries aren't something that I enforce on myself so others can enjoy my presence, but rather something others would have to choose to respect for my own comfort.

Sometimes it's impossible to remove yourself from someone or a situation thus making setting healthy boundaries difficult if not impossible. That's the kind of situation where you feel like a prisoner and can be a dynamic of abuse.

So that's how I can understand it.

I want to say that giving someone that kind of power over you is only going to continue the helplessness you feel and is going to frequently lead others to either be hurt and burdened by you, or manipulate and abuse you.

My feelings and actions are my choice and responsibility and mine alone, as are yours.

Life doesn't have to feel like a prison.

It's your life, take control of it.

Stuff kids on tumblr better relearn

1. You are responsible for your own media experience. 

2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.

3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.

4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, that’s fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.

5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.

Me, I block new accounts bc Tumblr is dumb and forces you to follow random blogs. I don't know you. I don't know you're not a spam/porn bot.

So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.

Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

I propose a new smell test for any rules of ettiquite tumblr comes up with where we imagine it in the hands of the most annoying person we know on insta or tiktok. Take a moment to imagine "that's a weird thing to say to a total stranger" in their hands. I think we should throw that one out

Hey, I'm new here, I don't know what the ettiquete is, or how people interact here, i honestly dont even know how to spell ettiquite.

Anywaysies, I don't know what I'm doing and I'm trying my best to pick up from people (I still dont know how to talk but still), so maybe I get a Tumblr lore dump from someone.

I don't think anyone sees this and responds, this is more just me putting this here so if I'm acting wierd someone can be like "whats this guy's problem" and then realise I'm not evil i'm just confused (and evil).

I dont even know if people can see this or if its just for me and only i can read this and im talking to myself. Not like that's any different. Who even reads this far anyway? This got boring a paragraph in. Oh wow and I'm still going.
