He was adopted into a well off family, has always been described with dark hair, dark eyes, and dark skin. in reference to being regarded to a derogatory term i won't use but is (Lashkar, originated from the Arabic word al-'Askir) in referencing south asian seafarers.

anyone else notice in the donghua how just the mere presence of lan wangji seems to ground wei wuxian? especially in his second life? there are a lot of scenes where, when wei ying gets lost in himself or lost in his thoughts, lan wangji—or more specifically lan wangji’s forehead ribbon, brings him back to reality. both before he learns of the meaning and after! the scenes im talking about are specifically in episode 28 (s3, ep5), where they go to jinlintai for the cultivation conference, and in episode 32 (s3, ep9), when the failed second seige occurs and wei ying is being accused by the cultivation world.

in ep 28, they are going up the steps to jinlintai, and wei ying is deep in thought about their plan. in that moment, lan wangji’s forehead ribbon catches his eye, and he is brought back to reality. in that moment, his first instinct is to touch it and tease lan wangji (and all in front of zewu-jun)… lan wangji isnt angry, but he takes his ribbon back with a look on his face, and they tease each other for a while (“how many times were you asked to copy gusulan’s rules of ettiquite?” “uhmm.. five times? six times? i cant remember.” “…you copied them for nothing.”); its a really cute scene and he has yet to learn about the significance of the ribbon.

in ep 32, he has then since learned about the ribbon’s significance. here, the cultivators of the world have gathered to accuse wei wuxian again, and vow to bring him down once more. they recount the events of nightless city… accuse him of kidnapping their children, among other things. here, wei wuxian once again gets lost in his thoughts, and is starting to feel alone, but he sees a certain forehead ribbon fluttering in front of him and now, he realizes has someone by his side. lan wangji stands up for him. lan wangji is there for him.

wei wuxian, whether he’s consious of it or not, absolutely adores lan wangji’s forehead ribbon. its one of his grounding points. even after he learns of its significance, and before the conclusion of the story, its something that he cherishes, something that reminds him that lan wangji is there, and reminds him of the fact that lan wangji will always be by his side. i think its sweet, and i think its one of the more “subtle” ways the donghua shows their blooming romance, even though they have more blatant ways of showing it (ie, the drunk scene with the ribbon, the ending)

side note: setting aside the fact that the donghua took a totally different approach in how much wei wuxian would be reponsible for the events of qiongqi path, nightless city, etc… whats important, to me at least, is lan wangji standing up for wei wuxian. he puts it plainly for the cultivation world to understand, that he is on his side, no matter what anyone says. and he doesn’t just say it, he shows it. lan wangji, time and time again, shows us how, no matter what, he stays by wei ying’s side. he goes after him and always makes sure he’s okay, and always makes sure that wei ying knows that as much as he needs lan wangji, lan wangji needs him too. anyways i’m going on a tangent here but the fact is i love the donghua sksjsj

“No, El. Listen, on Christmas, you wake up early and go into the living room. What’s the first thing you do?” You’re curled up under El’s blanket in her bed. El’s sitting at her desk, practically taking notes on Christmas morning ettiquite. 

“How early is ‘early’?”

“Siiiiiix…?”

“Six.” There’s a scratching on the paper.

“Well, you can’t get out of bed before six. Mom’s rule.”

“So I must stay in my bedroom on Christmas morning until six.”

“Exactly.”

“What do we do on Christmas?” El is passive, looking away from you and out the window over her desk.

“That’s what I’m asking you!”

“The big socks. There are small presents in them?”

“Stockings, El. And yeah, you open the stockings first. They’re usually full of chocolate and stuff, but Will got crayons in his a few years ago and Jonathan got some camera film.” You’re gesturing with your blanket-covered hands, making big motions that are hindered by the fuzzy fabric.

“So we open the stockings first. And then the presents under the Christmas tree?”

“Yeah.”

“How do I know if I got the right thing?”

“For Will?”

“No, for me.”

“What did you ask for?”

“New socks.”

“You asked for new socks?”

“Yes.”

“El!”

“Mike said socks are practical,” She defends. “And my old ones have holes in the toes.”

“Your ex-boyfriend is an idiot. Mom or Hop’ll buy you socks. You can ask for toys on Christmas, or books.”

“I can?”

“Yeah! Hey, remember when you went on that shopping spree with Max in 1985? And you got a bunch of new clothes?”

“Yes…” El turns away from the window, her eyes glossing slightly at the memory.

“And she told you to get what you wanted, and not what Mike or Hopper wanted?”

“Do I do that on Christmas, too?”

“You do that pretty much whenever you want, El,” You pat the bed next to you. “Come sit by me.”

She bounds off the chair and onto the bed, jostling so much that you nearly fall into the crack between the bed and the wall. El worms her way under the blanket, looking up at you with her big brown eyes.

“You’re so cute,” You kiss her nose lightly. “You can ask for whatever you want on Christmas. And you can get Max and Lucas presents, too. Things you think they’ll like.”

El’s head starts to droop, tired out by the combined warmth of you and the fuzzy blanket.

“Go to sleep,” You say, pushing a pillow under her head. “I’ll wake you up in a little bit.”

She mumbles her assent and her eyes close.

“You’re getting that childhood wonder phase, Eleven Hopper. I promise. Santa Claus is making a comeback.”

Yeah I think in general the polite thing to do is to just ask the original poster, and give credit for the idea when and if you choose to post it.

For the record, any time I post these random au ideas, people can feel free to use them for fic or fanart inspiration. If I wanted to write it myself I would have, or I would have kept it to myself. So yeah, if you want to write something up go for it! But I do appreciate when people leave me credit for works inspired by my ramblings 😌

I do not! But tagging is a whole-ass nightmare, anon. I've been using anti-B*rchie, so I hope they're not recent, because I recieved a very sweet anon asking me to change it, which I did. I am not sure what else I can do? Maybe tag it as anti BA? I am bound by the rules of ettiquite, so even if Barchie shippers are quite hateful to me, I do not want their tag clogged with anti posts.

i’m gonna ramble so im putting it under the cut

but anyways it’s not really one thing. it’s more just... there used to be a lot of unspoken rules back a few years ago that a lot of younger rpers just don’t seem to know. most of it is just how to behave out of character. being respectful of your partner and your rp partner’s time, and things like that. there’s also bits and pieces about how to take turns carrying the weight of the rp, because if you’re making only your partner have to lead the roleplay, it gets VERY tiring very fast

like, one of my biggest pet peeves from a lot of roleplays i do nowadays is having to be the one to keep the roleplay going. and it happens ALL the time. i’m on rolechat and cherp fairly often, and i almost always have to carry it. a vague example of this, where lets say im character a, is this-

character a: have you heard of this movie? i really enjoy it

character b: yeah it’s good.

replies like this make it hard to respond. where’s someone to go from there? when people make these curt responses that have no questions, no segue into another part of the conversation or even a new conversation, you’re forcing your partner to do it for you. it’s fine once in a while, if you don’t have any ideas, but it’s always just polite to share the burden. and it’s not that hard to do, too! the way i make sure my responses aren’t dead-ends is i try and always include something my partner can respond to. usually, a question, or some kind of prompt for them to talk. so instead of “yeah it’s good”, a more proper response would be something like

character a: have you heard of this movie? i really enjoy it

character b: yeah it’s good. did you hear about the scandal with the director though?

character a: oh no, i didn’t! i hope it’s nothing too horrible

character b: it’s not that bad, just interesting to read about. i think we should rewatch the movie anyways sometime

and so on. obviously this is like.. a silly little example with just dialogue, but you get what i mean. i feel like people ought to learn a little bit about how improv is done, because in improv, people would get really mad if you gave them responses that were such a halt in the flow. i think there’s really something to the improv rule of “yes, and”, along with some other rules

“1) Say “Yes’and!”

For a story to be built, whether it is short form or long form, the players have to agree to the basic situation and set-up. The who, what, and where have to be developed for a scene to work.

By saying yes, we accept the reality created by our partners and begin the collaborative process from the start of a scene. The collaborative process or group mind helps make us giants, animals, villains, saints and more importantly put us in situations that we would normally avoid.

2) After the “‘and,” add new information.

An improvised scene can’t move forward or advance unless we add new information. That is why new information is added after the “Yes” of “Yes ‘and!”

Example:

Yes, I washed big dawg and I fed him your steak too!

Rather than:

Yes, I washed big dawg. (SILENCE)

Example:

Yes, I accept being your assistant Heir Doctor and will gladly get you the princess’s body from the morgue tonight.

Rather than:

Yes, I accept being your assistant Heir Doctor. (SILENCE)

Saying “Yes’and” does not mean there will not be conflict or that we would accept something our character would not accept.

3) Don’t Block.

The opposite of saying “yes’and” is blocking or denial.

Denial destroys or stops the addition of new information or worse negates what has already been established. Blocking is a way of minimizing the impact of new information. It is also a method for the performer to play it safe. The performer maintains control and avoids vulnerability by blocking. But in improv we say the opposite of what we would say in real life, “go there.”, rather than don’t go there.

Blocking at its simplest levels involves saying “no,” or avoiding a subject. At a more advanced level, blocking is something that keeps the action from moving forward or the players from changing.”

now of course, i feel the need to mention that “yes” doesnt mean you always agree to things like questions, but rather, you agree to the setting your partner has laid out for you. likely, they have ideas for how they want to proceed, and blocking their story from unfolding just makes it more difficult on the both of you. keeping the flow going is important for both of your enjoyment, so when you block or refuse to fully engage with what your partner is giving you, it makes the roleplay stutter a bit, and your partner suddenly needs to find some other way to keep it going, or else it’s just going to die out

now, obviously you don’t NEED to do what i say, i’m not some big authority on roleplay, but the amount of times i’ve dropped roleplays because my partner was dragging their feet through the whole thing, expecting me to carry the entire plot, or constantly blocking every idea i feed them is WAY too much. if you rp, consider how fair you’re being to your partner, and whether the rp is fun for them, or a chore. and if you’re uncertain where to go, there’s nothing wrong with talking to your partner ooc to figure out where you guys want to go and how you’re supposed to get there. things like timeskips are your friends, but it’s usually polite to ask before going ahead with them

all in all, the main thing is just to respect your partner, and try and make it fun for the both of you. roleplaying shouldn’t feel like a chore, and being educated about how interesting dialogue unfolds in stories and improv can actually help both you and your partner really enjoy your rps more!

Pet Store Ettiquite

I figured I’d write this as a little guide, because I see people every day who don’t know or understand these things that make my job really tough or frustrating. Maybe you already knew them, maybe you didn’t, either way I hope at least a few people will learn!

Fish: If someone is getting you fish, please stand off to the side (not behind them) and not in front of the tank your fish is in. I know you want to watch them catch the fish but employees need to stand right in front of the tank they’re getting into and probably need some big elbow room too. Stand back!

If you want a specific fish, absolutely say so . But! Remember that for some fish this will be impossible to do. Or, the fish are for all intents and purposes identical so don’t try to pick a specific one please. Or at least, don’t get mad or think the employee is incompetent because they tell you they can’t.

Do not ask for help with a fish problem, receive an answer, then tell the employee there is no problem and you did nothing wrong. Please, 99% of the time, you did something wrong. Just fix it.

Do NOT open lids or stick your hand into the tanks!! For any reason!

Birds: Do not put your hands near or into the cage. Just don’t! 90% of the time you are scaring the bird and giving them lifelong behavioral problems. Remember, they have had around a dozen people try to poke them, scare them, maybe even yell at them or hit their cage. The public is stupid, don’t be a part of that. Politely admire the birds from a distance unless the bird is asking for physical touch.

DO NOT TRY TO OPEN THE BIRD CAGES. I CAN’T BELIEVE I HAVE TO SAY THIS.

This includes going into any employees only areas related to cleaning cages.

Do NOT feed the birds ANYTHING!! PLEASE YOU COULD KILL THEM.

Mammals: Do NOT open the cages.

Understand that you might not be able to handle the animal. This is, honestly, for the animals protection more than anything. Many people, including those who genuinely think they can competently hold the animal, cannot, and will drop or injure them. I’ve been doing this for 8 years. Chances are, you will drop that hamster so no, you can’t hold it.

If there is an open top type of enclosure, ASK if you may touch the animals inside.

Reptiles: Same as with mammals, you probably won’t be allowed to hold the animal. It’s just a safety thing, nothing personal. Please respect it and the animal.

Do not crowd the employee as they get you an animal. Lots of reptiles are fast and flighty and having you breathing down their neck will do one of a few things; distract them, make them uncomfortable, or get in their way.

Do not scream or jump if a reptile jumps or runs. I know this might be difficult, but try to expect it so it doesn’t startle you. If you react this way you can startle the employee, which may make them make mistakes or become nervous, which leads to more dropping/failure to catch the animal. Especially if they are new.

Please give your kids ground rules BEFORE taking them into the store. So many kids, every single day, come in and wreck the place or hit things because they had no idea they weren’t supposed to. If your child is old enough, before going into the store give the following rules

1. Do not touch the cages or tanks. (Look but don’t touch)

2. Stay with me/don’t walk away.

3. No running.

4. Put things back.

Will they listen? Maybe not, but you can’t get mad at them for getting excited to see a hamster and hitting the cage to get it’s attention because hey, no one said anything about that and you’re a kid so why would you think twice before doing it?

This is more for you than anyone but if you are STARTING to run out of cat/dog food, write down the brand/type (Or take a picture) and get some before you’re totally out. Many, many people actually forget what brand of food they feed and get frustrated when they can’t remember or I can’t figure it out (It’s a YELLOW bag. It’s chicken? Maybe beef. Small breed.). Having that picture will help you a lot! And employees. Heck, to save you even more trouble, call first and ask if they carry it and if it’s in stock!

If your dog is aggressive with strangers, small animals, or other dogs… Please do not bring them into a pet store.

On that note please do not bring animals to the pet store that would be in danger because of it. Like a bird without a harness, a hamster or mouse without a carrying case, or a baby ball python you got 3 days ago (please… stop).

i know i'm super late to the party with my intro post but love me pls these things make me sO nervous?? obvs i'll add more to this list as time goes on but i figured this was and okay starting point. olly is the first oc i've really put A LOT of thought + feeling into so just... bare with me here

( MATTY HEALY / 27 / HE/HIM ) IS THAT ( OLLY ADDISON ) ORDERING A ( BLACK COFFEE ) AT MOCHA? I HEARD THEY’RE A ( CHEMIST ) WHO’S KNOWN AS THE ( RACONTEUR ) AROUND HERE. HOWEVER, THEY SAY ( OLLY ) IS VERY ( METICULOUS ), BUT ( ARGUMENTATIVE ). WELL, BETTER GET THEIR DRINK BEFORE IT GETS COLD! ( CHELS / 25 / SHE/HER / AEST )

— olly was born and raised in london, only having moved to chicago once he'd graduated university and gotten himself a good, solid job. he's always been particularly close with his little brother, so saying goodbye and moving away from him for the first time was one of the hardest things he's ever had to do

— though he often throws himself too deeply into his work, olly hates being alone. he's more than happy eating alone and doing mundane things without anyone with him, but when it comes to nights and being at home - the silence drives him insane.

— he's always been determined to get out of london and live his life the way he wanted to, so he's never been much of a rule breaker. every muscle in his body would often screaming at him to do the opposite of what he was being told to do, but his logic focused brain knew that if he wanted to get out; he had to play by the rules. at least for a little while.

— these days there aren't many rules that olly does follow. when it comes to social ettiquite, he follows every basic rule there is. he's polite, he doesn't cut people of, and he makes an effort to make sure people know they're heard. but that's about as far as his rule following goes.

— he's one hell of a story teller. get him started on just about any topic he has even a sliver of a memory attached to, and he'll talk your ear off until you have to tell him to shut up

— when it comes to trusting people, olly more often than not finds himself ignoring his better judgement and letting just about anyone in. he's not naive, he knows that there are people out there who are going to use him and take advantage of how open he is, but growing up with vacant parents and no one around to really care about him - he grasps onto any form of affection he gets

Media, information, user.

Media, or our way of communicating, media has everything from audio to visual communication it really made sharing and communicating more instant but more public. We have our own responsibilities as a human being, interacting with another, these responsibilities also applies into media because interaction is still there.

All of us have some manners or ettiquete when some one is talking in person, and so does happens in the media, where in you respect one another. We all have our own responsibily, we have to follow the law, and others that is good related. But we are humans and media is just another way to talk to each other, so harrassing, bullying, gossip will never go away, and some of these are the problem, not just in the media, even in real life. Media can be a mask to those who targets the people, and they can be stopped with the right tools. Again, we are humans, sometimes we spill the beans, or say thing too much, or just people being this so called “up to date” where in the every move or event they make, they share this to their media disregarding the dangers in media, such as stalkers and such. Media made it easy for other people to get updated on their target person, because its really just there, a few types and you’re updated.

Media doesn’t have rules, only people who are connected. Media is just used to group people and they could talk within that group. For example, Facebook is a Media where in you’ll see their personal information and you can talk to them, including here is what they post, usually what people posts or share is their life or what’s happening about it. There are no rules, only you and your responsibilities, if you posted too much about yourself, you’re exposed. If you post too little, its okay, it really depends onto you. Think about your post, and what you should get is reaction, not other things. You have your own responsibilities, and ettiquite, use it, and don’t abuse it. If someone does, report them.

TLDR: To conclude the post, media is just a way for you to interact with others, you have your own responsibilities and decisions, its up to you if you want to expose yourself in the media, or use a proper ettiquete so you can still hide some of your sensitive information, if someone is being a trouble, don’t hesitate to report or talk about it.

"We'll discuss it." Amy said even though she knew what answer she would get from her family. "You can lay out the rules and we can discuss safety and killing ettiquite." She dropped her hand from Erin's and gathered her sisters and mother up.

"If we were to go with Erin in the morning to look for Papa, John, and Fritz, is that something you think you could do?"

"Yes." Jo said without any hesitation.

"Absolutely." The mother stated, she would do most anything to reunite with her husband.

"I'm comfortable." Meg said.

It was Beth that looked grim. "What if I mess something up? What if I can't do it?" She asked.

‘ we need to keep moving. stay ahead of those things. ’

“I’m still not quite sure what those things are.” It was obvious, the woman had been sheltered. Wide blue eyes surveyed the stranger trying to find some reason to trust to trust her. “My sisters aren’t back yet. They were supposed to be back.”
