hey has anyone tried to buy a covid test lately. because i just had to buy one for a friend at my local walgreens and the cashier very seriously asked me if i was sure i wanted it because. a 2-pack of tests currently costs $23.99. do we not think that it's a little insane that the only reliable diagnostic tool for a very much ongoing pandemic costs over $20 for a single package. what if I didn't have that kind of money to burn??? Especially if you're already facing potentially losing at least a weeks worth of pay if you DO test positive and can't work. How many people are going to see that price point and decide they can't justify the expense??? literally insane. remember that brief moment of sanity this country had when we all got these for free
#genuinely the most upsetting moment ive had in recent memory. 'are you sure you want this. it's 23.99' about a COVID TEST#personal#also worth noting that i live on a college campus and my health center is SUPPOSED to provide these to us for free.#i had to go out and get this test for my friend because the health center would not return our calls.#both of us are in significant student debt due to the tuition we pay for this school. and now i have to buy a fucking $24 covid test#because the health center won't fucking pick up the phone.#i am so pissed off right now man i dont even know what to say

one of my biggest gripes with netflix tbh is the inconsistency of what shows are available and that what is available is based on geolocation. the fact you have to use a vpn to get access to part of a service you’re paying for is fucking ridiculous. and the fact netflix tries its hardest to prevent the use of a vpn on top of it is fucking stupid
#i genuinely haven’t watched anything from cable or a streaming service in months#i think the most recent was something off of kanopy#but i get free access through my college library so i don’t pay for it#i guess i kinda do through my tuition#but you get the point#my secondary biggest gripe#is trying to limit netflix to one household#like fuck you

#im procrastinating on studying and i feel so awful#everyone already expects me to get into the hardest university in the country#and they make it so much harder than it already is and its so pressuring#and none of my friends feel that same pressure because theyre studying hoping to get in because everyone does#but theyre not studying because everyone already just expects them and tells them that theyll definitely get in#and yesterday my dad even told me hes sure ill get in#i know itll help them retire earlier. and its going to mean a lot if i go to a college with free tuition especially since my brothers are#not the type to pass there. they arent studious and my parents have to force them to care about their grades#and i know it should be reassuring that people think i can do it but as each day passes i fewl my self efficacy deteriorating#and i just feel so pressured and so scared that im losing the motivation to study at all#and i hate it so much because i should just study but its eating at me having to live up to what everyone thinks i can do#and i feel so alone doing it#and to add to that im not even sure if this is what i want anymore#and its all so confusing and i cant set my mind straight on anything and i dont know what to do

I've started listening to an Anthony Bourdain audiobook at work and it's making me yearn for the kitchen
#Don't get me wrong I like my new job and from a practical standpoint it's definitely better than restaurant work#Like the pay and hours and more stable and it comes with benefits like medical/dental insurance and free college tuition#But I miss finishing a night shift and then getting high and going to Waffle House with the other closers at 4am#My new job is fine but there's nobody to talk to because the other janitors are off cleaning other buildings#and the people working in the building I clean are polite enough to say hello and make small talk but I harbor no illusions#that these college professors want to talk to a janitor and even if they did I'm only in their offices for like 30 seconds tops#Meanwhile working completely in sync in such close proximity with half a dozen other 20-something townies forges lifelong friendships

i hate being stressed about like. things that are actually stressful. normally i could be like "all is well 😌it will be ok no matter what" or whatever but i genuinely cant do that here. if i dont get this sorted out im genuinely fucked
#i dont know how much ive said here but im going to try and be as vague as possible so i dont like. accidentally dox myself or w/e#but anyways i got a VERY GOOD tuition scholarship outside of my college. i go to one of the cheaper schools in the area i go to school in#so it covers all of it#awesome right?#SHOULD BE. if my college didnt fucking DELETE the form somehow. fucking hello.#the scholarship emailed them. and then they DELETED IT.#and ON TOP OF THAT!#i had extra bullshit fees unpaid i had no idea about.#so i was almost not even cleared for move in.#that got fixed. but now i have to call fifty billion people and fix this problem#so i can. go to school and not go into debt#plus. ok. the scholarships i get from school are genuinely pretty good. but they split it up b/w room and board and tuition#so i need to see if they can move stuff around somehow bc i shouldnt need the tuition money anymore#and between that money from school. the other scholarships i get from school. the outside scholarships i have.#AND THE ONE THAT WOULD COVER MY TUITION.#i could go to school for basically free and not go into insane debt.#which is awesome. but if i cant get this one thing figured out! i cant!#and i move in IN TWO WEEKS. SO I HAVE NOT THAT LONG TO FIX THIS. #i can get the a i need for my online class after all!!!!!!#eeeeeeeeeeeeee#i just have to do 2 things and I'm gonna get the a#then I'll get my full amount of funds instead of half#I'm so excited#i mean first i have to do things for my in person class for that a but that one is super easy#this is such a gift and i don't know what deity did this#i don't worship any luck deities or ones associated with money or fortune or knowledge so idk#like all of mine are chaos and revelry and trickery other than one#but that one is like motherhood and stuff and i worship her to get the comfort of a divine mother#anyway whatever deity decided to blast my ass with fortune i love you#also i got what i needed to up my financial aid for the upcoming school year so double fortune#I'm vibrating with excitement#i may not be getting anywhere in my job search but my bank account won't be negative and I'll have the grades i wanted#life is beautiful today#i also got my doctor to switch me to gel for my t so i won't have a bad reaction hopefully and i see the gastroenterologist tomorrow#i'll get the swallowing problem dealt with soon even if i have to get a camera shoved down my throat again#and my college is doing a free tuition thing that while i don't think i qualify for will still be really good for other people who need it#and my dad leaves town for 2 weeks in the morning#I've just had a ton of good things happen in a row#also i got to see the living tombstone on Saturday and i swear that fixed the funk i was in from what i had to do last week#and i learned sweet tea doesn't taste like pure sugar so it's actually decent#damn I'm feeling good#anyway happy rant over#go be gremlins#and as always#drink water you heathens

so much fun that photoshop makes my laptop crash completely so i have to open my school virtual desktop to access photoshop through that. and then my laptop is fine. kills me lol

For those of you just joining us, here are 21 things colleges and universities could do for students, but don't.
Provide FREE TUITION for ALL students.
Cut the salaries of boards of directors, presidents, vice presidents, provosts, vice provosts, and all executive officers. Use the savings for FREE TUITION.
Provide FREE TEXTBOOKS.
Provide FREE HEALTHCARE instead of making uninsured students pay extra.
ALWAYS PAY students for internship work.
PAY FACULTY A FAIR WAGE regardless of rank or status.
Hire faculty and administration that reflects the general population (queer faculty, faculty of color, and femme/female faculty).
Take out and pay loans to cover expenses SO STUDENTS DON'T HAVE TO.
Ground curricula in employable skills.
Let disabled people get accommodations without providing medical documentation.
Provide ANY AND ALL MEDICALLY NECESSARY accommodations, NOT just "reasonable" accommodations.
Always schedule evening and weekend class times to support working students.
Allow work experience to count for college credit.
Provide reimbursement for lost income if the scheduling of a required course makes a student miss work.
Require or incentivize instructors to use trauma-informed teaching techniques.
Require or incentivize instructors to follow accessibility principles in their course materials.
Offer equal numbers of in-person/synchronous and asynchronous sections of courses to support working students.
Make sure instructors of online classes give students appropriate face-time and sufficiently prepare course materials.
Do NOT give students who failed to register in the previous term last pick in registration.
Streamline gen ed requirements / degree prerequisites so students can get degrees faster.
Require all departments publish their course schedules far in advance of registration.
